Vela to be allowed to leave if we sign Arshavin? Nooooooooo!

by & filed under Uncategorized.

I have now read on three sites to my horror that Arsenal old boy Tony Adams has asked to take Fran Merida and Carlos Vela on loan, with Vela being allowed to leave at the end of the season should we buy Arshavin, I sure hope that is bull as that would be utter madness.

Vela has only started 8 games this season and Wenger seems reluctant to play him which baffles me, but to sell him at his age, with the talent he has would be utter madness.

Man City are also in again for Kolo and may be prepared to up their offer to £15mil, I love Kolo but if they were serious with that offer, I’d take it and buy Chelleini straight off, but again I think it’s all paper talk and Wenger wouldn’t spend that much on the 6th best player in the world let alone a defender.

Or maybe we could swap him for Richards, now that would be an awesome deal, and one I think they would entertain.

Moyes says it shows how far they’ve come that they’re disappointed not to have beaten Arsenal, he must have forgotten when they beat us in the snow two seasons ago. Plonker.

Anyway, what’s worrying is we only have 2 days left to sign Arshavin, whilst I still think we’ll sign him, if we don’t Arsenal would have gone 3 complete seasons selling more players than we buy as well as progressively getting worse as a team, at least last season we got to the semi final of the Carling cup.

So if Arshavin really is the only target we do have and we don’t sign him, the boss should be looking forward to another bumper pay packet this year so at least someone will be doing well, his words not mine.

On to tomorrow, the day we hope we unveil Andre, I have a feeling Eduardo will either come on or start, I think the theatrics of a situation like that appeal to our Arsene and Eduardo deserves all the cheering he’ll undoubtedly get when he trots back out on the pitch, he may also be the toe up the arse that Adebayor needs as well.

Ok West Ham played well the other day but we did beat them at their gaff so I fully expect us to beat them again at our place, I mean when was the last time they beat us at home eh?

That by the way was irony and the reason I mention it is they have probably beaten us at home as much as anyone in the last five years so we need to be on our toes.

That said though I do expect us to win this one, and win well, Eduardo if he plays will be wanting a goal or two, Ade will be trying like hell not to get subbed and Robin just loves the big stage, so expect a better game than on Wednesday Grovers, Arsenal to win 2 nil.

Have a great day everyone, dare we expect that today Arsenal will do their duty???

nice one Irish, a good and honest take on the situation and well written too….surprisingly objective for a Gunners fan too!!

Go Irish! Go Irish! Go Irish!

…..apologiies if i have caused any Grover offence
    ;-)

  2. Lou

Jay. I totally agree with what we need but we needed it last summer and nothing really happened despite promises that it would. I have virtually zero confidence that it will happen this summer if we still have AW in charge. His social experiment has been caught in a loop for a few seasons now. Loose your best players, replace them with cheap kids, win nothing, loose more of your best players, replace them with more kids, win nothing. The result of the experiment is the deja-vu situation we, as fans, are caught in. We see obvious defficiencies, Arsene doesn’t. We win nothing. Arsene reasserts his confidence in the players that we know are not good enough and we win nothing. The only man who could possibly have pushed things in a more intelligent direction was thrown out of the club by our board who put their own petty squabbles ahead of the club’s sporting future.

  3. Nigel's Winterburn

The 1989 shirt they’re trying to flog on Arse.com doesn’t have the original addidas logo on it. Can’t imagine they’re allowed to put three stripes on the sleeves either! Poor effort at trying to get our money!

  4. TJ

    Jules,

Wish I could be there with ya tomorrow mate. Should do like the clubs in Italy & turn our backs on the game & chant for 10 minutes! The corporates would automatically join in as they’ll still be at the bar!!

  5. BOY BETTER KNOW

i’ve got a song…..WE’re on our way ! we’re on our way ! we’re going nowhere we’re on our way.how we know that we don’t know ! how we that we don’t care ! all we know is we are fucking shittttt

  6. Jay

The retro shirt on arsenal, com only has two stripes well. Shocking way and gaining more cash to sit and count. Fuckin pathetic.

  7. Stu

Its as if there is a spread of ‘living in the past’-itis.

The club with the 20year anniversary jersey and as Nigel just said, trying to flog the (almost) replica of the jersey from that year.

And also with so many fans who cite Wengers past success as reasons not to fire him. Some of us call for a change in management and these certain fans say- “but hes our best ever manager, he won us the league unbeaten, the double bla bla bla”

Now im not trying to say Wenger didnt achieve all that and wasnt our greatest ever manager but c’mon, there is no room for sentiment in football.

He may have been amazing in his prime when we were winning etc but he is NOW losing us a CL spot, money, effectively ruining the team and seems to have lost the plot somewhere along the way..

I mean 4years is a long fucking time without silverware for a team that once played the most attractive football and was one of the most feared teams in Europe. (that might be a bit of a contradiction but so what)

  8. Jules

    TJ

mate and all , go on news now and look down thru the headlines !! its a joke every report is different ,
like you say , the deadline is tomo 3pm and now AW says it might go to the wire !!!!

    joke .

ps . I would,nt ave minded nolan for 4 mill for those tough away games we apparently don,t like .

  9. maqitlarge

Do you think they’d try to take an Original shirt with adidas symbol and stripes off our backs on entry to the stadium, or perhaps the stewards would give it a go?
That wasy we’d have to buy a new one, thus keeping Nike happy

  10. desmoinesgunner

I would give AW one more season – if he doesn’t buy anything this window or in the summer (and I don’t mean right before the season starts) he should be gone. And if he just buys kids then he should be gone as well…we have enough of them.

Thanks for the memories but the game has moved on…

  11. Jules

more to the point , I would ,nt mind a signing , done in a day or so . even my spud nieghbour was laughing at our usual saga . how embarrasing , ( mind you , I did remind that he was as The Major would say ” vermin faulty “)

  12. maqitlarge

Did anyone else hear that Nike nol onger represents the Goddess of victory.

She’s now the Goddess of frugality.

    Thats for you PHW!

  13. desmoinesgunner

Still think we should have been in for Barry earlier this season – he is consistent and quality. Would have given us some backbone and commitment and maybe helped out the defense…

For those of you going – I want to hear you guys sing out at THOF – make our feelings known!!

  14. TJ

Jules, text me the score tomorrow please mate as Barry is visiting & i’ll be beating him at golf! Thought that was more fun than an afternoon at Emirates, sad reflection on things huh!!

  15. Truth

All the sounds coming out of the Arsenal are just complete utter tosh. How is it that not qualifying for a CL spot doesn’t matter, yet we have earned at least £30m a year from reaching the group stage of the competition, and yet, we still find it hard to pay the going rate for the much needed additions to our squad. Currently when it comes to our beloved Arsenal nothing makes any sense whatsoever. This situation coupled with the Arshavin affair is a complete joke! Aaaagggggggggrrrrrrr

  16. Stu

And Wenger should get rid of Silvestre, Gallas, Eboue, Song, Ade in the summer. Keep Almunia as 2nd choice behind Fabianski. Have JD and Senderos as 1st choice CBs or buy better ones. Get a defensive coach in, a world class DM and add strength in depth. That should suffice

  17. patthegooner

Well I am completely fucked off with Arsenal today

We go from 90% complete to 10% complete

We only have 2% missing from the squad, he spends 98% of the time getting the team ready for the next game and 2% on transfers.

No one seems particularly bothered if we miss out on CL football,

We have got a permit then we havent.

But is ok becuase according to Wenger “We have spent less than anybody else, we make money, we make profit and we are trying to do very well.

Since when was fucking football about making a profit. I could have sworn it was about competing to win things.

And what the fuck does this mean

“You can never rule signings out but I think it is important to concentrate on the players we have.

“We have made serious enquiries but not made any bids.”

What a load of fucking bollocks

Well you seem to like figures Arsene so here is one for you

I am 99% fucked off with the way you are running the club at the moment.

  18. Stu

Senderos is fucking brilliant. Easily the best defender on our books.

As for Eboue-he can go. He needs a change and we need to get a better player instead. He just doesnt offer us anything.

  19. London

    GMR

You were right when you supposed that my comment was not aimed at you. Kindly stick to the agreement and mind your own business.

  20. patthegooner

And even PHW tried to defend the situation by saying that it is becuase we have lost Eduardo, Rosicky, Theo and Cesc

Does he think we are fucking stupid, we knew two of those were going to miss a large chunk of the season in the Summer.

Fucking buy some players otherwise I am going to take a big Shit on the floor next to the door to the Executive Entrance at the Emirates.

  21. Stu

In fact- Senderos for captain anyone, while Cesc is out tho.

He should have been given back because they dont play him.

  22. patthegooner

Oh and I forgot, this morning it would be done by kick off tomorrow, and then this afternoon it might go the last minute……

    Fucking Embarrasing

  23. Metal Gear

Stu I 100% disagree he’s a liability in the extreme he’s clumsy, positional suspect and Stu come on son we need top top defenders 2 be winners not Senderos we need a Cheillini.

  24. Stu

But you cant disagree that Senderos is a better partner for either Toure or Gallas. Both of them have played at their best next to Phil in recent times. Gallas last season and Toure whenever they have played together really.

He is the perfect foil for them. Attacks the ball and is imo great next to a sweeper (WG or Kolo) Plus he aint a bad leader (considering what we have)

  25. patthegooner

And what the fuck is the difference between an Enquiry and a Serious Enquiry?

    AAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH

I am losing the will to live.

  26. patthegooner

May 2009, Arsene Wenger on Arsenal.com

Yes we did finish fifth and ok you could say that we could have strenghthened last summer and again in August but we did make some “Serious Enquiries” and I have belief in this team and buying Arshavin and Barry or Alonso would not necessarily have solved the shortfalls and mistakes of playing Eboue and Song. and I have just made another 40m profit in selling RVP and Cesc Fabregas. I dont think we will miss them, Bischoff will be promoted to the senior squad to replace Cesc, and Bendtner will naturally take over from RVP. So given the 40m profit I believe it has been a succesful Season. Finally I am taking my cheque book on holiday with me, and will add some super super class players in the coming weeks, and as it is renewal time the fans will be reassured with what they see.

  27. Metal Gear

Stu he’s shit he was and is a liability he’s been playing alonside either Gallas or Toure 4 some time. Do you even remember what he was like last season? Listen Senderos is a step back he made me nervous everytime he was on the pitch. We had Senderos in our team for some time look where it got us what your saying is the eqivilant of a Man U supporter going oh I miss Silverstre and he’s better than Senderos don’t you understand why we’ve been shit for so long becuz our/your standards our so low Senderos is rubbish this is not even a discussion as far as I’m concerned the quicker you accept we need much much better than that the better your understanding of where I’m coming from will be.

DJ on the other hand is good but wont get better under Wenger he will only improve with a DC.

  28. Stu

    Fabianski
    Sagna – WG/Kolo/JD – Phil – Clichy
    Nasri – Cesc – Denilson – Rosicky
    Van Persie – Eduardo

If we buy noone in the summer (which is unfortunately a big possoibility) then the above would be what I would start the season with.

Obviously tho I would prefer a DM, maybe a CB to replace the departed Silvestre (and hopefully Gallas) and IF Arshavin does actually sign this window because its now of never.

And while im making wishes then i wouldnt mind a fit and on form squad (specifically Roscky).

  29. irishgunner

Pat – don’t blame you. My optimism glass is only a 1/4 full.

On a bright note Rafa Benitez seems to have gone completely do-lally so that’s good fun :-)

  30. Stu

Metal, i still think Senderos is better than anything we have atm. Im not think, i know we need better but you will realise that we will never have better under Wenger because he is afraid of having a defensive mind in his teams.

  31. ikon

    “Undoubtedly” Arshavin “might” sign.

And why the fucking hell are we seeing news about Vela, who helped us win at least 2 games off the bench go out on loan?

  32. patthegooner

Stu, seriously if we sign no one now and no one in the Summer, Cesc and RVP will not be on that team sheet.

They have ambitions and I am sure that the better players in the squad are starting to question whether we will be able to compete for honours in the next few years. Unlike fans they only have a short window to win things at a club..

  33. patthegooner

I know Irish, My Optimism Glass is now a shot glass, and there is no way I am getting drunk drinking it.

GM seriously if nothing happens, I am staying away from any media that would include Wenger Speaking or quotes from him.

Someone said they dont like him being referred to as a Cunt, but at the moment I honestly want to punch him in the face to knock some sense into him.

He is losing the plot and is blinded by this fucking pet project of youth. I am sick of it.

  34. goonermichael

What I don’t understand about the youth project is why he doesn’t play Jack, Ramsey and Vela more often

  35. ethangunner

i did say we would buy no one didnt i ?
everyone was giving out there Christmas shopping lists in vane ..

im still hopefully that the fat Russian will come too our rescue and force feed arsenal some pennies to bridge the deal .

but we are skint and i hope that finally proves it too you all !

please dont say we have the money but refuse to spend ! because it isnt true .. wenger wants AA, has identified his target and are in negotiations ,and our beer and chips budget wont allow for him to join us due to money constraints .So why dont the board members come out now and tell us wenger can buy anyone he wants !!?? whats changed ?

the window is still open :)
    thats whats changed !

i wouldnt want to pay off a new stadium repayment + highbury either .. it would be a monster mortgage of biblical proportions currently .. better hope the real estate market picks up of we could be frustrated for a long while yet !

  36. Iqwoo

Arsenal has turned into a business not a football club. Money has taken priority over football. This is really sad.

  37. leon

gallas may not be best captain but he told the truth when he was at chelsea he was playing with more experiened players, yes the man has no patients but he is top defender he is a winner and does like losing i dont see anything wroung with that. wenger still has not applied for a work permit , dont know what he is waiting for,i dought he is going sign anyone when it clear as day the team needs some top class experienced players.i keep on saying this but wenger must go if arsenal are going win anything, the best manager are the ones who listen and learn from there mistakes, but wenger is to stuborn and thats his business but i dont see why arsenal should missing out on titles and after year just because he cant swallow is pride

  38. Jules

    pat the gooner .

i feel and agree with everything you say , i feel sick and angry . i used to look forward to transfer windows but now its a joke , other teams do deals without all this saga crap , i used to watch wengers press cons with excitedment , now he just pisses me off .

  39. Stu

I agree leon, Gallas is shit and should go for criticising the players openly and divulging information about rifts and even naming specific players. It was rich criticism coming from a man who made so many mistakes himself.

And Wenger should learn to swallow too.

  40. patthegooner

Wenger should go and Manage Honda or Woolworths, They look like they need someone that is motivated solely by finance and profit rather than winning stuff.

  41. ethangunner

    pat

wenger does a lot of things at the club but he doesnt set the budget !

i mean if he did i dont know how he would find time to go to the toilet ,
(other than adult diapers ) Sorry , this time
you have to point your finger at the board pat !

wenger has not denied interest in arshavin ,
and like alonso we are going to miss out over money .. wenger now knows he is understocked in most departments .. so why enter negotiations only to have them fall thru , if the money is indeed there ! …

wenger is hired help with 18 months or less on his contract .. and as far as i know he isnt even dealing with the transfer personally is he ??

so why blame him .. you can call him a cunt however for not playing vela- jack etc , poor sub’ing and team selections .. but the board arent sacking him are they ?

they aren’t making any noises other than conceding the C.L spot ?! no fizman coming out and saying wenger has the money too spend now is there ?!

and this deal is so long winded im sure the media have asked this question again too him !

15 mil for AA is a bargain when man shitty want toure for 15 .. we sold hleb for 12-15 ..
the price is not unreasonable for a player of that caliber so lack of funds can be the only available answer ..

and how can that be arsene’s fault when he isnt doing the negotiating

  42. Dave T

The youth project of Ramsey (just not ready) Wiltshire (just not ready) and Vela (getting there) is not the answer.

lets not go on and on about Wenger said this, then he said that. Press conferences for Wenger are about talking to the players not us really. Why would he say what he uis doing in public. of course its all smoke and mirrors, no serious business talks about its purchases in the public domain unless they are sorted. I dont care if he said he may, he might, he nearly has, he may not etc. I care when he says we ahve. until then its all smoke. Good luck to him if it helps sort out his plans.

On a brighter note, by the end of the weekend we will be three points of second spot. Its true saw it in the Tea leaves at the bottom
    of my half full glass.

  43. patthegooner

    Ethan

It is regarding his comments today about we should not be criticised becuase

“We have spent less than anybody else, we make money, we make profit and we are trying to do very well”

he admits himself that he makes profit.

  44. Jules

infact , i think i would rather go back to MY SEAT , 60 , row 19 , block j , east lower , at MY club watching MY team , big tony waving and roaring MY team on , petits pony tale , trailing as he flies into a challenge , parlour and keown getting stuck in ,
the finnesse of dennis and th14 , the grit of freddie
the no fucking around of lauren , the arrogance of edu , the skill of bobby , the atmosphere of a european highbury night .

think about that guys and look now ,

the can,t be bothered of ade , the expressionless
dopy diaby , give the ball away could,nt give a shit song and the embarrasing eboue . jesus

we havent have progressed . ade if you can,t be arsed , fuck off .

  45. Stu

leon, i am not a ST holder. But if I was I would probably still go to games because i still love the club (even if I hate whats going on).

  46. Stu

    Its simple Irish.

Tea is boiling (boiled) water in a mug (witha tea bag obviously). Mugs have handles, glasses generally do not – ergo, hot tea in a glass would burn the fuck out of your hand.

  47. ethangunner

    pat

weve known that for 2 or 3 years now ..
why are you only bothered about it now ???

actually its a great idea ! to buy and sell ..
but its the board now who rely on him doing it every year …

like i said in November , do you even know the figures of wengers transfer budget ??does he even get one ???

other clubs boast 20 mil or say they will spend .. but wenger never gets a budget now ! the scrooges expect him too turn a profit every year like some street side busker and now the talent pool is empty .. because we’ve either sold them or they’ve walked !

  48. irishgunner

Stu – you can get glasses with a handle. We have some here – I think the French use them for Latte all the time :-)

  49. Jules

Yep Keyser i did under geoege graham . we wanted to win things then .we had ambition .

I know , Iknow , im being negative , we have some great players . i just want the two good players we need and were promised to be right up there again .

just really frustrated and pissed off with all this bullshit .

  50. ethangunner

    pat

not sure how you can lump the blame on wenger because he doesnt get a transfer kitty from the board of scrooges ..

is wenger the head CEO now or somethin ?
if he isnt paid a transfer kitty .. and he doesnt deal with the transfers any longer he doesnt do too many things that involve money ..

its like watching a murder then blaming the gun!

  51. patthegooner

    Ethan

You have known me on blogs for a while. I have been fucked off with it for a few years and it started the summer we sold Vieira and Edu in the same window. I thought he was making ammends last season but then went backwards again in the Summer

Do you know the figures of Wengers budget? no one really does outside of that close nit circle, and I can only go off the titbits that people like Geoff can feed us as he does get some access to details and individuals.

You make a guess that it is the boards fault but personally I think that they are both to blame. Wenger is a stubborn man, but he is an ambitous one, so I find it really hard to believe that he would stay at a club that were operating the way Arsenal were, if it was true that we dont have any transfer budget. And why would we even bid for Arshavin if that was the case?

  52. patthegooner

So you are happy with Wenger then Ethan?

It is all the boards fault? completely?

Today is not the first time that Wenger has hinted at motivation of Profit, Like I said I have no idea if money is available, but i would like to think that Wenger is big enough and ugly enough to walk away if our club was being operated in that way. He also has a responsibility to the better players in our squad and if we are operating on peanuts then he should be letting the Likes of RVP and Cesc go to match their ambitions elsewhere.

  53. Keyser

Jules – I never said anything about negative, it’s just what you feel right now, was just wondering like.

I’d wait whole games for Limpar to do something special, I didn’t even mind watching Glenn Helder, I didn’t care about the game or wthether we won but watching someone like Winterburn hit a shot from 40 yards out (maybe an exaggeration) made me feel warm inside.

If we’d drawn 3-3 all with Leicster or a team equivelant today what would our reaction be ? But me, all I remember is one of the best hat-tricks you’ll ever see.

A bit like the Everton game, as soon as Van Persie scored that goal I almost forgot everything else about that game.

  54. gambon

Ethan how do you know wenger has no budget.

    We can only really deal with facts in estimating if he has money, and from what ive seen;

    - the club is extremely profitable
    - hillwood has regularly said AW has money
    - Fizsman not so long ago said he would let wenger spend £30m on 1 player
    - Wenger has said we are in a very good financial situation

So although i question what anyone at the club says, all the evidence points to AW being reluctant to spend, not the board.

  55. patthegooner

And to be honest Ethan, I really dont know enough about the finances at the club to get into a bit of blog tennis debate with you today, I am in a foul mood.

My main gripe today was with Wengers one minute it is 90% then 10%, then it will happen tomorrow by kick off (If it does) then it could be the last minute, then one minute it is I am looking then it is serious enquiries then it you should look inside the club where we are 98% complete as a squad.

The guy is losing all faith I had in him. As for the board, I lost faith in them a long time ago.

  56. ethangunner

You cant tell me that the board is so naive that they trust wenger at this stage when a humble fan is beyond pissed at our club for its lack of ambition .. then you have the board themselves saying no biggie if we fall out of the C.L !

i dont see wenger saying that do you ?

i dont see the board saying we have the money now ? do you ?

sorry but im not naive enough to think that the hired help runs the club whilst they sit around fucking clueless !

why get krankie on the board and get friendly with the russian ?

the board are more than well aware of arsenals current climate and have enough sports minded people on their books to know there asshole from there elbow !

and as for arsene making money , im sure that happened years ago when anelka was bought for 500k and sold for over 20 mil !

im sure if anyone of us tailored that deal we would want a cut from it too !

  57. Keyser

patthegooner – Is this something new ? We’ve been thinking about the future from the minute he got there and brough through young unknown players who almost no-one had heard of, Wenger’s been talking about economics, profit, youth and the future since he started, we wanted a forward thinking manager and we’ve got one.

    What’s changed ?!

  58. Afro MAn

    DANG

this cunt wenger needs to get his finger out and get this russian

i aint spent £50 gettin his name on my shirt for nuffin!!

    FUCK

  59. ethangunner

    gambon

Ethan how do you know wenger has no budget.

because he stated he makes a profit (return ) every year from his transfers ..
and if you have done the maths over the years like i have you would have worked that out 2 years ago ..

  60. Keyser

Stu – In any context ? Who’scomparing it to the hat-trick, what was it just another ordinary average goal, or did it light up a dull and uninspiring night for Arsenal fans ?!

Who is Van Persie to you ?!

  61. Stu

Keyser, can you ever just accept what i say and leave it at that??

What i meant was Bergkamps hattrick lighting up that draw cant be compared with Van Persies good strike in a dull as shit game. ok?

  62. patthegooner

Keyser, Football has changed in general. Wenger built teams and if players were not good enough, he would move them on. The balance has also changed. He used to bring through players but not such a % of the 1st team were classed as developing and unproven as they are today.

  63. irishgunner

Keyser – I nearly cried when Bentdner scored against Bolton it meant that bloody much, the rest of the game was forgotten about.

I didn’t get to see the game live the other night cos I was out but I was getting text updates. I was so pissed and were sure we actually fecked up big time but then just smiled a little and felt a sense of relief when RvP scored.

The flowing performances can be brought back but not the points. I just want us to keep getting points and working on the performances and I’m sure you feel the same

  64. ethangunner

    pat

he did this with alonso ..
but im sure its all been too public for AFC
to weasel out of not buying AA now !

in fact ill give you my word he will buy him :)
but im pretty sure he isnt doing the negotiating , its the new director of football who went there .. or so the story went ..

wenger knows the status of affairs but he isnt doing the negotiating for him .. he is as ever the arsenal mouth piece but im sure wenger isnt tailoring the AA deal !

  65. metronome

Anyone else reckon if we sign arshavin and he settles in well that we should cash in on ade and play 4-3-3 choosing the front three from edu, vanp, walcott, vela, nasri and arshavin

  66. patthegooner

And if we havent got money, we should take the money on offer from Man Shitty for Toure, get Senderos back and spend the cash on a DM.

im sure the money is available ..
but if they are willing too spend it or not is the question ..

people keep forgetting currently on paper arsenal have assets sure .. but if you did a ledger on personal eqity it would look something like

    minus 400 mil for stadium
    + nike deal 100

    debt carried over 300 mil
+ highbury construction costs well over 250 mil
    tot- 550 mil … in debt .

AFC owe between 500-600 mil to investors/’banks
repayments annually were something like 58 million pounds in interest alone p.a!

thats like 30 home games plus you have to find cash for wages etc..

its not like i didnt say this in october either
im sure some of you remember the long winded debate :)

  68. Keyser

Stu – Oooh get you, what are you getting all upset for ?! Do you just want me to agree with what you say because your ‘Stu the merciless’ ?! It’d help if you were clearer with your comments anyway.

Both lit up the game for different reasons and with differing expectations, but I’ll acpet both as something to remember.

  69. patthegooner

Like I said Ethan, I am not in the know of figures at Arsenal and am not from a Financial background, but surely the board will see that unless we do strengthen then the chances of us getting CL football is pretty slim.

Again I dont know the figures but how much do you miss out on if you dont get CL football?

  70. ethangunner

thats why im sure he will cash in on ade this summer ..

because as time goes by his value will drop and drop and drop !

there wengers transfer kitty for next season !
and thats why i think AA will play more of a strikers role ..

not only that look at the midfielders we have available .

nasri- theo- cesc- rosicky (maybe ) denilson
jack – ramsey (the bums like song – eboue)

plus vela on the wing is an option ..
and then merida and next years crop coming thru ..

  71. patthegooner

Just a shame that now Ade is in a comfort zone, and is not scoring goals, his value will have dropped heavilly. I would be amazed if we would get any more than 15m for him on current form.

  72. Keyser

patthegooner – Exactly, football has changed, it’s not the same now, it’s weird how people can get built up into a frenzy a whole lot quicker now for one.

The way I see it the only way we’re going to see a sudden investment in our team with the sort of signings people expect with no-one being sold is if we get someone else to buy out the club, why ?

Because thats how every other club around us has done it ?! Yet we give our manager a hard time and expect all these quality World Class players to turn up to match the teams around us.

Or we’re going to have to wait and build gradually again.

  73. ethangunner

    gambon

Ethan, your numbers are way off.

yes gambon its probably far more !
    i was being conservative …
i remember relocation’s cost over 3 -4 million alone .. but i am an architect and i have looked over the plans .. and i know a thing or 2 about building hi-rise’s .. in fact i would say im a full bottle on the subject , it is my profession …

on this sort of flexible loan the rates will rise and fall with the economy and as you know they have been steadily climbing until recently ..
the credit crunch has a huge bearing on there available spending (loaning) power …AFC has .

  74. patthegooner

Into a Frenzy a whole lot quicker

Keyser, People have not lost faith in Wenger overnight, this has been gettting worse for 3-4 years. The difference is that the number of Gooners that are losing faith grow by the day.

and neither Man Ure or Liverpool have got where they are with sudden investment, and nor has Villa. Fucking hell at least some investment would be a start.

You say Build gradually, but surely the actual situation is that we have been stripped gradually and that will only get worse in the Summer when RVP and Cesc move on…..and they will unless this club starts to show some investment. I know they are team mates, but do you honestly think the better players in the squad are happy playing with Song and Eboue on a regular basis, and with Diaby and Denilson on the wings? I dont.

  75. patthegooner

And we have been down this road before Keyser and it ended in stalemate.

But I dont think it would have crippled the club if we had started each season with a balance in transfers of -20m, especially as we would have made a whole lot more cash in revenue than the offset of wages, and we would proably have more entries in our Honours section on Wikipedia.

It only sounds bad now as to fully rectify the current lack of class and quality would cost upwards of 50m. It is almost like Wenger has been putting off the Gas Bill for the last few years,

  76. ethangunner

we will be screwed money wise to mid 2010 .
maybe we can buy the end of this year but who would be available and would all those flats sell by christmas if things got tougher ? !

it isnt that hard to get your head around really, . we haven’t paid off the stadium OBVIOUSLY ! and we definitely haven’t even finished paying off construction installments

    so go figure ..
    we are skint !
and fizman – the board (the money men )
are spinning a lie to the season ticket holders to prevent them jumping ship …

i think wenger wants this AA deal public so he can show the fans he is not the reason we cannot secure the big names anymore !

i cannot tell you pat how much cash we will be down on no C.L probably 20 mil i think ..
but then we will get Uefa cup crap so it might peg back 4 or 5 mil off the total ..

but the board dont seem worried !!

    THE BOARD !!!!
    not wenger ..

  77. gambon

Ethan, what rates??? most of the debt is fixed rate.

Our debt is more than managreable, the only long term liability is the stadium debt standing at 255mm repayable over 22/3 years, this is paid from operations.

as for 58m pa in interest, its actually 17m so that was a 40m over exaggeration.

  78. patthegooner

Nah Wenger said he was not concerned by not getting CL either Ethan.

They did mention the other day though, that even if you won the UEFA Cup it would not even come close to what you can earn in the group stage of the CL. You would also lose PL money, bums on seats (Cant see many at Arsenal Vs FBK Kaunas), The ability to refinance the sponsorship would be affected, players may decide to move on and others of real quality would be hard to attract and given our situation I think it could really cripple us.

  79. Paulinho

Our squad would be too large if Wenger had to bring in players to replace the ones that are not good enough, whilst also not releasing anyone.

It’s all about ego, stubborness, and loyalty. He doesn’t want to sell off the ‘project’.

Look at his recent comments describing Denilson. The man is deluded.

  80. patthegooner

    Too true Paulinho.

Ask yourself the question, if Wenger went to Real Madrid tomorrow and a sudden injury crisis meant that he was short in CM, RM, and up front would he buy any of

    Song, Bendtner, Denilson, Diaby, Eboue?

    No

So why does he persist in conning us into believing that they are good enough.

  81. Keyser

pattheGooner – It’s not really about losing faith in Wenger so much as the amount of information we’re bombarded with constantly from all sources, how many people commented on blogs 10 years ago ?!

Both United and Liverpool have been taken over in recent years, as have Villa, on top of the natural progression these clubs have shown with the on field success and their growth as clubs.

We’re the only club paying off massive debt on a stadium but teams around us have just as much if not more debt, but are still able to buy all these players.

We don’t just have debt on the stadium at some point we must have fronted some cash from somewhere to actally begin the building process ? Or is it all stemming from one gigantic loan ?!

We have had this conversation you’re right, I remember you saying 20 million would have covered an extra player and keeping Henry, Henry’s wages alone would have been about 7 million, it doesn’t really leave much for another player and his wages aswell.

20 million doesn’t sound like much, especially when teams around us are spending 70 to win what they do.

  82. ethangunner

    gambon
if it is a fixed rate its a fixed term !
there’s no way in hell it will be a fixed rate ! or whats the point in building highbury !

highbury is too offset the stadium costs – or logic suggests it !
    58 mil is a figure i read !

and you said it yourself 255 mil on the stadium alone !
also were does operations get close too 300 million for the highbury development ?

also it doesn’t make sense to have 2 differing loans they will be all rolled into 1 debt!!!
    a debt consolidation loan !!!!

listen believe me or not , i dont care, you believe what your lovely board members tell ya..
stick pins into a action figure sized wenger doll, i dont care !
this debate has been done several times by me..
and it bores 90% of the crowd ..

and the other 10 % are way off :)

  83. gambon

It def isnt a money thing, if it was he wouldnt sanction one of the biggest wage bills in world football, that would be the first thing he would trim if he was strapped for cash.

  84. Keyser

gambon – How can you state definites ? Do you have an accurate breakdown of how our wages compare to everyone else in the Premiership, just wondering since people say we include everyone on the books as staff while other teams are only including the players and manager or soemthing ?!

  85. gambon

    Keyser,

we fronted the costs with the sale of shares to granada (£77m) aswell as saved cash and the upfront money from Nike and our caterers.

  86. patthegooner

Keyser Henry’s wages were probably covered by Merchadise and the sponsorship that comes with having an Henry in your club. I yes I am sure that if Henry thought that he could have won the CL at Arsenal he would have stayed, And if we had invested a steady not ridiculous amount on players each year, then I am sure he would still be here. What is sad is that like Henry all of our good players will eventually leave to match their ambitions elsewhere…Unless we start doing something about it.

And it is not just about the information that we are being bombarded with. It is about action as well and you simply have to look at the Invincibles squad and the one we have today to see that we are a club in decline. A decline that in my mind was and should have been avoided.

  87. Keyser

gambon – Exactly, the money went from other areas, as opposed to from outside investment. Do you know how much we spent ?!

  88. Paulinho

    Pat,

Wenger picked out Diaby, picked out Walcott, ditto with Denilson, ditto with Song(although I think he’s got some potential), ditto Senderos, ditto Eboue.

He went with the youth policy which is understandable, but the problem is he’s made a complete hash of nearly every one of them.

This small detail seems to have been lost amongst all the rhetoric.

  89. ethangunner

i can tell you right now you wont see much change from 300 million for the highbury
project all payable in installments up to constructions competition ..
scaffolding – cranes- concrete – labor
relocations – quality fixtures and furnishings
and thats the tip of the ice berg !
not too mention plumbing cabling – electical
    on and on !

add to that the stadium debt and you have a MASSIVE repayment on your hands currently crippling all your available spending and
    lending power !!!

  90. Keyser

pattheGooner – You keep saying steady and not ridiculous amounts, the teams around us are and were spending that and without the debt repayments, Henry didn’t go to a team that was steady with their money, they’ve spent ridiculous amounts, he knew we couldn’t match the sort of investment Chelsea had made or United could have made.

He didn’t want us to build steadily and spend 20 million a season, he knew it wouldn’t have made the impact he wanted and he moved on for that reason.

We can talk about ambition all we want unless several youngsters come through together who can add consistentcy and quality, we’re not going to be able to match these teams stride for stride with the money they are spending.

A club in decline ? Football goes in cycles, how can you refuse to look around at the clubs around us and say we’re being mismanaged or showing no ambition without calling for us to be bought out and taken over ?!

I think we’ll be fine if we build gradually like we’re doing, but if you want instant success than it’s going to be about heavy financial investment from outside the club.

  91. Angry Loner

Shite! About 3 days ago i said the next time I posted on here, Arshy would be a Gooner! Whoops!

So, whats all this Im hearing about Richards and Johnson AND some cash for Kolo then?

  92. Keyser

Paulinho – A hash ? What should have been done different ? There’s Merida, Ramsey, Wilshere, Gibbs and others behind who show promise, and add a couple of signings along with them and you’ve got a pretty healthy mix ?!

  93. gambon

Ethan, the stadium flats are gonna cost nowhere near 300m, more like 150m. The only danger with that project is how much we get for the flats. But seeing as a lot of the flats have already sold at 100% list price it doesnt look too bad.

as for the stadium debt, well thats 20m per season and we make 60m per season profit under our current model……i dont see how 40m pa profit can leave us without funds.

  94. ethangunner

    pat

What is sad is that like Henry all of our good players will eventually leave to match their ambitions elsewhere…Unless we start doing something about it.

thats it in a nut shell isnt it !!!!

and im sure you dont need to explain that to wenger …
he already knows that players are dropping like flies .either by his own hand or more recently ambition wise, the board needs to balance the financial side and the bread and butter footballing side ..

and we know which one has slipped off the scale recently !

in fact if you knew about construction like i do id say both have slipped !
AFC isnt in a position id say to lend any more money ..

and no other bank would touch them with that sort of debt over there heads either !..
so until ‘thorn in the side’ highbury is completed and sold off get used to it !

  95. Paulinho

Keyser, I’ve said it before. The more talented players lack the physical power at the moment, and the less talented ones like Denilson are taking their place by virtue of having the size and power to play in the league.

I don’t see that changing anytime soon. Merida, as much as I like him, will never get a fair go this season, same with Wilshere. By the time they do, we could be in the UEFA Cup.

I rate our reserves but let’s try stay in the relative present here for a change. The players that Wenger has earmarked to come good NOW, are not IMO.

  96. Keyser

gambon – Sorry mate didn’t see that post, got confused with the wages one, I didn’t mean to say they’ve fiddled accounts just that there’s no accurate break down of ours compared with other clubs.

So 140 million or so up front ?!

  97. gambon

Ethan, arsenal could comfortably borrow money if they needed to, but once the flats are sold they are out of the property game.

There is no need for more loaned money.

  98. Angry Loner

Wow! And I thought I was pretty rose tinted! Blimey Tom Watt on ArseTV is way beyond me in the optimist stakes!

  99. ethangunner

sorry construction costs of 150 million ?
maybe if they didnt put concrete in the sand it might cost that much or miss out the steel !

you know how much steel goes into construction ? form working ?

sorry not a chance in hell that that costs only 150 mil , someone is pulling your leg ..
over 3 years to build ? with labor , your joking right ?

ive seen houses cost over 20 mil !

also you said 60 mil total
    20 mil for stadium ..
and about the same for highbury ..

leaves you with 20 mil for wengers wage of 5 mil a year and the lads ..

it dont leave you with much currently now does it !

i spose you have to pay the wankers on the board too !
