We were lucky, very, very lucky.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

So thanks to Robin the boy wonder, we got lucky with a goal that only he could have scored and if Song had been kept on we may have nicked it in the dying seconds as well.

The good news is by not losing that game the boss thinks we can still snatch 4th spot, great, so we are aiming for fourth spot, still at least he’s finally been honest about something.

I was joking about the Song thing by the way but when he finally took him off, I said fantastic, we’ll now see how much he’s missed by replacing him with a forward and of course we didn’t miss him at all, but then to my horror he brings Eboue on, gasp! He won’t leave it alone will he, Eboue? When has he ever won us a game.

It’s almost as if he wants to piss us all off, he’s having a tin bath.

Well Pedro didn’t get back to his hotel until 3 am this morning so I will do the match report and player ratings. Also well done the people that stayed online last night to share their horror and a big well done to the fans that were at the game, you were far better than the team.

The match was played at a high tempo and to be honest Everton only seemed to have one shot, Song tried his best to give them others but they didn’t take them. When they got the free kick you knew they would score and they duly did. How Cahill who is 4′ 3″ tall can score from a header is a mystery, but there you go.

Player ratings are easy, Robin the boy wonder 9, Nasri and Denilson 2 and everyone else 1.

Pedro was with the Arsenal fans last night and said they stood the whole game as did the Everton fans and had 3 stewards in their end who said nothing to them the whole game, maybe Arsenal should learn from that.

He also said that they were all complaining about Song, Eboue and Adebayor. So when the so called real fans say they never bitch about an Arsenal player, maybe they should try going to a real game and find out what the real ‘real fans’ think before they open their mouths.

So again you can see why I don’t do the match reports, but if Wenger doesn’t think we need 3 outfield players and a keeper he should not be managing this team, because it struggles everytime I watch it. Granted Everton are not a bad team and they got two draws against Liverpool recently, but if we had 2 or 3 world class players we would have beaten them last night.

We can’t keep saying we had Rosicky, Cesc, Eduardo and Theo out because we always have three or four long term injuries and a good manager should plan for that, the Mancs do, Liverpool and Chelsea do Madrid and Barcelona do, so why don’t we eh?

Wenger has told the press that the Arshavin deal is 90% done so maybe at least we’ll be getting one world class player in this window, he said yesterday that buying players in the window doesn’t work, what does he mean? didn’t we buy Ade, Reyes and Diaby in the window once?

Okay Arsene, point taken.

Have a great day today Grovers at least we didn’t lose.

Whats not real Franchise?? The Matrix is certainly real and my mate hasnt seen that either. What a weirdo right, all things considered i mean. No offence to anyone who hasnt seen it.

  2. kenny smith

Sion, i didnt know that. Thanks for informing me though, i now know a little bit more about a culture outside of my own which is a good thing! Every day is a school day

  3. David

    see stu

    I knew it wasnt real!

And you like the matrix? but you dont like Lord of the Rings??

I am seriously confused. Whats the difference?

  4. kenny smith

Francise- it might of sounded serious but it was not let me assure you. I think perhaps maybe you are taking things a bit too seriously.

O and FYI the matrix is real….. i cant believe there is a single soul on this planet that thinks the matrix is not real!!!

Irish i just saw you posted a comment earlier saying u hoped there wasnt any wenger bashing going on here last night.

Not to start another tiff or anything lol but i was talking to one of my mates after the game last night and i was giving him a real bashing i can tell you. Try not to do it on here as much cause i know it will upset some people and it causes more harm than good

  5. George

There are so many issues to deal with regarding Arsenal’s appauling performance last night that to say Iam geniunely worried would be an understatement. My concerns are not exactly helped when our manager talks as if there garden is rosy and just a couple of things need adjusting.Come on Arsene you have bought this club huge succss with a brand of football that has enabled us to build and fill a 60,000 stadium(maybe some of the Wenger’s biggest critics should remember that before laying into him so vehemently)but the first cracks have started to appear and I prey and hope that our great manager sees before that it’s too late that Song and Eboue are not good enough to play in Arsenal’s midfield and that doubling Adebeyor’s salary doesn’t give him the right to shirk his duties as a striker.

  6. kenny smith

lol irish true…. if u asked me last night if i wanted wenger sacked id have said yes…..

if you asked me the same question today id still say yes lol

  7. Punt

just been fucked over badly playing tiger woods, got through to 4th round, finished on 12 under for the round, winner did it in 19 under, cheatin bastard, bet he was a chav scummer!!!

  8. irishgunner

lol Kenny if you asked me last night if I still wanted AW as manager I’d have said yes and I still say yes now :-)

We’re like chalk and cheese you and I

  9. kenny smith

i know irish lol, opposites attract lol.

Ive never really done all that well in relationships. Probably because women dont expect me to have a mind of my own! lol kidding.

Lets not have another tiff tonight eh darling? ha

  10. Punt

its like invasion of the body snatchers with Wenger, these last 2 or 3 years he’s been taken over by aliens and lost his desire to win, mind controlling beasties from the planet Eboue!

  11. Punt

you can see him at the end of the season walking into William Hills with a betting slip saying “u see, I told you Song would make 30 league appearances this season!”

  12. kenny smith

    punt… totally agree!!

Off topic but i watched fever pitch again the other night cause i hadnt seen it in ages.

Unfortunately i wasnt really a gunners fan in at the time we won the title at anfield as i was only 5 but id have loved to have been on those streets of North London after we won that game!

I was heartbroken after the champions league final in 2006 and although we have won trophies before i wud love to have been watching that game against liverpool and hope to experience something so great for Arsenal again

  13. kenny smith

irish i think ill just ignore anything u say i think is wrong lol

one thing i cant stand is a woman who refuses to admit when she is wrong… even when it is plainly obvious she is wrong..

Dont mind women being right all the time if they are genuinely right lol

  14. Stu

Irish, i only read the first few lines and i didnt bother reading on.

If faced with all those press people and asked about potential rumoured signings i would say:

“i will not discuss tracsfer dealings regarding the players of other professional football clubs”

Or something like that. Its a great answer because they have no way around it.

  15. irishgunner

Kenny – are you saying I’m wrong??? When have i ever been wrong?

    On another note:

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing 18-year-old Brazilian attacking sensation Wellington from Sao Paulo, but they may face competition from Real Madrid and Roma.

Is this not the guy that Arsenal turned away??

  16. kenny smith

No irish im not im just saying if i think your wrong about something ill just ignore it rather than disagree lol

then said i dont like women who cant admit when they are wrong… i never said you couldnt admit when your wrong…. you’ve already said that lol

  17. kenny smith

yes irish i think he was on a trial with arsenal and did he not score 4 goals in a trial game or something for us?

  18. Sparrow

just watched the under 18′s play, that Jay thomas is a beast!! He’s been eating more Weetabix than everyone else!!

  19. goonermichael

Just got home and read the coments. I still think jonny depp is the dogs bollocks. from hell is a good one as well. My brother has worked on the last 3 depp/burton films and says burton is weird and depp is a great bloke. Next one is alice and depp is the mad hatter.

  20. Stu

Sparrow, be careful with the word Beast. I used it a few days ago and someone started a big row over racism.

I agree about Jay E-T tho. He is fucking brilliant

  21. Sparrow

GM my mum actually looked after Burton’s little kid last year (she’s a nurse). He lives in Chalk farm with Helena Bottom carter, my mum said the house was very gothic!! He must be into the dark arts :)

  22. Stu

    Bahahahahahahahahahahahah anyone watching SSN?

N’zogbia says he will never play for toon again because Kinnear couldnt pernounce his name properly. Any fucking excuse!!

  23. kenny smith

agree aswell sparrow. Jay E-T and coquelin are the stand out class in our youth system just now… excluding the obvious LJW and that

  24. Sparrow

N’Zogbia sounds like Anelka when he was young, I remember when he said, “everybody calls me Anelka, my name is Nicolas”, wah! wah! wah!

  25. Maqitlarge

sparrow, I just watched that too. Was about to write teh same thing but thats youth football though. Often bigger mean better. LIke him though. hopefully he can develope into a monster midfielder. at least 3 years away from the first team though.

I like the young Turk though. You could tell by his touch he’s real class and has a chance of making it! The others… you never know.

  26. Punt

michael, helena bonham carter, i jolly well would, remember her years a go in a programme with rick mayall, she played a stripper and from that day i’ve wanted to nail her……erm, i think im on the wrong kind of website for these disclosures,,,,winona ryder 2!

  27. patthegooner

Has anyone else resigned themselves to the prospect of Song at DM for the rest of the season.

Does anyone think we might get Arshavin and a DM? and if so who will it be? the only one being touted around is Veloso and I think that is all agent talk.

  28. Stu

I doubt it Maqitlarge. Thats probably more offensive. Not to me but to certain people.

I personally see beast as a compliment but i was corrected…

  29. Sparrow

Everton Vs Arsenal game is now on, time to change the Channel!!! BTW benik afobe didn’t look that great in the game, was looking forward to see him play

  30. Punt

c’mon Wenger, have a crafty bid for Veloso up your sleve, we’re surely more attractive to him than Bolton, and he’s exactly the player we need, £12m, a bargain!

  31. Maqitlarge

the world we live int Stu…

Personally, I see it as a comment on a players footballing and mental attributes, not creed. Whoever get offended by that defines themselves by creed far too much

  32. patthegooner

Same here, The beast is a complement.

I can’t for the life of me see how that word can be interpreted to suggest Racism. Especially on an Arsenal Blog where we had a player here for a year whose nickname in the media was the beast.

  33. Stu

It certainly is a sign of the times where everything said about an other race is scrutinized regardless or intent or lack there of.

  34. Maqitlarge

Barca are awesome… play just like us about 5 years ago.

Rememeber out “global knife set football”?

    Slice, slice, slice, slice, slice

  35. patthegooner

I cant watch Barca this year.

I know Henry is having a great season and it will just depress me that we let him go.

  36. Maqitlarge

I can Pat. I’m glad he’s doing well and still love his skills. Good for him.

Even better that Hleb is failing too!

  37. patthegooner

I love Henry and wish him all the best. If it is not us, I really hope he gets his CL medal with Barca. His Career deserves one.

  38. Pedro

Pat… I loved Henry… I didn’t blame him for leaving project youth… It’s a shame though, becuase he would still be doing it for us now, and he’d have won the league for us last year!

  39. patthegooner

I never could see Hleb making it at Barca. Not becuase he is a bad footballer, I really rate him, but more becuase they are already swamped with class in his position and at Barca you have to be scoring as well as assisting.

I still remember Henry at Hlebs press conference smirking to himself at the back of the room.

  40. goonermichael

    Pat
I like Henry saying “I don’t think he was in the Invicibles” when he corrected a hack about Hleb.

  41. Pedro

Pat… you don’t really get players at Barca who don’t score or assist… they’d never make it.

Only Arsenal fans who could get a hard on over a player like Hleb!

  42. patthegooner

Yeah I think he would as well Pedro, and If Henry was still here, then I dont think Hleb or Flamini would have gone either.

I think this could be another side affect of not buying before Monday as well. We still have a few class players who are ambitious and following Hleb, Gilberto and Flamini last year will potentially be RVP, Sagna, and Gallas this year…and you are right, whilst project kindergarten continues who can blame them.

  43. leon

if wenger does bring anyone this jan there be upraw so there should be he keeps singing the same song the ptential of team and team not to smallits mearly compact and they have live within there resources a
d that wearing thin the fans have alot more patient than he deserves,i am not in position season ticket holder but i know its very heafty price to pay going up down the country and not alot in return and so or later they are going voting with there feat and wanting both and the board to go.

  44. Stu

Or when he scored a pen against city and Celebrated in ront of Danny Mills’ face.

Paulinho, I know but i prefer not to acknowledge that because its all Cashleys fault so….

  45. Sparrow

Did I ever tell you guys that my Mum taught Henry how to change a nappy for the first time? She works in portland hospital… My only claim to fame, so far……

  46. irishgunner

THAT goal against United with Barthez standing there looking like a plum or that back heel against liverpool or the goal against Madrid

  47. Sparrow

sorry throught I would add that in, the funny thing was she rang me that night and gave the phone to Henry, all I could talk about is how he felt to be a Dad for the first time – pretty sad really!!!

  48. PDT

What a great way to start the day – remembering Thierry’s greatest moments!

Today will be a good day! Thanks, guys!

  49. irishgunner

I watched the DVD the other night “Unbeaten 49″ – shouldn’t have done that, made me a bit sad cos I remember been so happy then watching the Arsenal

  50. patthegooner

Nah my highlight this year is still Salgado bouncing off Jack in the Pre-season game.

Not the most obvious, but there has not been a lot of cheer has there.

  51. goonermichael

Whatever you think of him. When Ade chested and hooked one in against the spuds. Or when Cesc robbed the ladyboy and fed Ade to beat the mancs at the theatre of shite. I was at that one

  52. Maqitlarge

Hate to say it, but this season will be remembered for persistance with players not good enough. Much like ’88 will be remember for Gus Ceasar.

Unless we win something of course!

    Top 4 finish doesn’t count

  53. George

Guys(Pedro and Geoff)I was looking at your definition of an AKB section and noticed that you stated in defence of those who thought things weren’t so bad before Arsene joined the club that “Arsenal have finished out of the top 4 only twice in the last 15 years”,well as Arsene has been manager for 11 years now and by my recollection has got us into The CL on every occasion then your point doesn’t exactly stand up; before Wenger joined,CL football was few and far between whereas now it is virtually guaranteed(until 2009!).As for your’e views regarding Arsene’s part in helping Arsenal to be confident enough to build and fill a 60,000 stadium I can only state that even Mr Wenger’s biggest enemies would have trouble denying that without him we wouldn’t have had the confidence in selling the tickets.I have been a going for 28 years and this is(up until this season)the most prolonged period of watching an attractive, exciting brand of football I have experienced under one manager.Mr George Graham’s dark days where we employed the services of Hillier,Carter and Mcgoldrick seem a long and distant memory and can be used by the likes of myself in a riposte to those who suggest “things weren’t that bad before Arsene”.I remember Don Howe’s stewardship and standing on the North Bank against Coventry at home when 14,000 people turned up.Yes we had some great times when George inherited Thomas,Davis and Rocastle and with the help an excellent back line we won the League twice but George proved that over time he couldn’t rid himself of that overly defensive streak and our attendences started to really suffer.
Iam not looking for a row but feel that if you allow people with unconstructive views who spout viterol like”I hate Wenger he is a cunt and should go”,then you should allow people to state their view that it would be very hard to better what Arsene has done for our club although it is undeniable that for the first time in 11 years his jugdement should be seriously questioned.

  54. Maqitlarge

Anyone read “The Dammed United” about Cloughies 44 days as Leeds Manager? They’ve made a film with the bloe who played Blair in The Queen.
I read a review today about it and it mentioned a TV show with Revie vrs Clough interview. Apprently its teh best football TV ever, by far! Anyone got a link or know how?

  55. George

Well I suppose Irish Gunner that supports the view even more that Arsene’s record in qulifying for The CL has been exemplarary.I never find it sad when someone knows their facts re Oct 1996 as it tends to help one form a constructive arguement!

  56. irishgunner

Maq-I heard about the book and its meant to be very good. I know a guy that is mad into all stuff to do with Clough I’ll ask him for a link tomorrow if there is any.

  57. irishgunner

George – I’m all for AW myself. I know he makes mistakes but so does everyone else that’s why pencils have erasers :-)

  58. Pedro

George… I said 16 years ago and I wrote that piece last year (1991).

I don’t think you got the jist of the article…

It’s not about stifling Wenger supporters… it’s about stifling unreasoned debate. Or attacking someone because they are going against the great one…

We’re all stakeholders in AFC… so we all have the right to our own view.

There are plenty of arsene supporters on here… everyone knows how to debate, everyone I enjoy blogging with.

  59. George

Magitlarge I have read it and it is one of the best books I’ve ever read on football.A few people don’t come out of it looking particularly good eg Billy Bremner sounded like he was a right cunt.Sounds a bit obvious but Brian didn’t mind a beer did he!

  60. Maqitlarge

George, The comments you mention mostly happen during or immediately after a indifferent result / performance. Last night was a classic example. LIke at the game, people get angry and anxious and let it out. Personally, I switch off at that time and stop blogging, as I wouldn’t make any sense.

But today, and most days, you get sensible opinion in here. We’re just sided with the idea that we’re underspending and have sided too much with youth to the detirment of the team and challenging for trophies.

We, and yourself I take it, pay the biggest ticket in the world, pretty much and we wonder why we get out spent by the promoted teams.

This team needs reinforcement and yet still, nothing has happened, after 9 months.

I agree with you though, Wenger shouldn’t be called these names. Do what I do and walk away
So we’re all frustrated and sometimes anxiety shows itself. It shows we all care!

I stil believe in my heart that Wneger will deliver us at least one more trophy. Hopefully loads

  61. Pedro

    What Maqitlarge said very eloquently.

Match days are not rational days… I was calling the players alsorts of names yesterday at the game… purely out of anger… no one will remeber… not the same when you blog unfortunately!

  62. George

Sorry Pedro with the risk of being boring if you wrote the piece last year and said 16 years ago, that takes us back to 1992 and as Arsene took over in 1996 and has qualified every year(I think)for the CL then the 2 0ccasions we didn’t qualify must have occured between 1992 and 1996 which doesn’t help make your point about AKB’s.Anyway it is becoming boring what my real grievence is that I don’t feel you take offence when someone states that the manager of our club is a cunt, which as you say they are entitled to and it is all about having a view but certain people get very agitated when someone appears to be overly sympathetic to Wenger’s cause.Anyway I won’t labour the point and as you say everyone is entitled to their own view.My view is that every football fan should read the book about Cloughie as it is fascinating and gives the reader a glimpse of the seedy, murky world of football management in the 1970′s

  63. Pedro

George… at the end of the day… if someone wants to call the manager a name, we’re not going to take offence.

It’s people calling each other names that we take offence to.

This site is all about the people who blog on it… people can say what they like as long as they back it up.

Read through a few posts and check for yourself… the comments are so high in volume becuase we have such diversity of opinion.

  64. Geoff

The difference is then a dodgy deal (shit player) was paid for with a brown envelope full of cash, now it goes into the managers pay packet at the end of the year.

  65. George

Sound advice Magitlarge, and I will follow that.I too like yourself am becoming increasingly frustrated by Mr Wenger’s poor decision making at the moment and I suppose the expression”it’s the hope that kills” you could never be more apt here as you know that Arsene is capable of producing a team that could challenge for the title but his stuborness has cost us dear, whereas in the 80′s I remember celebrating like we won the Cup at a surprise 4-0 win at Leicester under Don Howe as we had no hope in those days.

  66. Geoff

Nice one Maqitlarge and on that note I’m going to bed, flying wears me out, well that and 55 beers anyway! Have a good’un Grovers.

  67. George

what the away win at Leicester, hard to pin the exact date but Talbot played and there were rows going off everwhere.

  68. Pedro

George, I am too young to remember that one… but don’t try and kid the older generation of Grovers that things were that bad…

Jimbo… you always back up what you are saying with your opinion… you can’t ask for more.

  69. Geoff

I meant George signs Pederson (useless) and gets £400k in his sky rocket, gets caught and tin tacked, oh and gives the money back.

Wenger signs Song for fuck all on the basis of exceptional talent and gets more than George did for saving money, both dishonest but one keeps his job!

Both ways the fans get fucked.

  70. George

Pedro this may well fall on deaf ears as you stated that you were going to bed but can you imagine a situation where Arsenal got 14000 for a League home game now? It’s all about opinions and mine is that Arsenal football club went through some pretty dire times in the 1980′s and mid 1990′s so Iam not trying”to fool the any of your readers that things were that bad”.Anyway as you stated that you were going to bed I suggest I do the same myself instead of barking at thin air!

  71. George

Geoff(once again Iam probrably talking to myself again here)but Arsene’s decision to buy Song couldn’t in my opinion be described as dishonest as he collects his £2 million a year whatever player he buys and there was no personal side issue to be gained by Arsene for the signing of the mediocre Song unlike George who signed a shit player for personnal gain.Alex Ferguson has made some truelly dreadful signings, one of which earned his son about £2 million but I don’t think it would benefit MUFC to dispose of Alex’s services over a couple of poor decisions just as it wouldn’t benefit Arsenal F.C to get rid of Arsene because he fails to see that Eboue cannot play wide right and Song should play for Bournemouth AFC not AFC.

  72. ethangunner

george wenger has learned his lesson i think ..
when he put his plans into action to replace all the invincibles with his youth plan i think he took all the tadpoles from the tank that season .

he has been recruiting more slowly over thepast 3 years .. NASRI- VELA – THEO – RAMSEY well and jack .. all classified as wonder kids …

i think song – senderos – eboue and all those other fringe players where purchased too quickly and not enough research OBVIOUSLY went into them ..

it seems he has refined his selective choices more recently and thank fuck for that !

i think now more than ever he is dressing them up too sell in this transfer window ..
i pray thats what he’s doing , if he knows he is shooting for 4th spot then he has already conceded the title race , as did i pre – season!

so all thats left for him is the FA cup , which we wont win .. and 4th spot ..

maybe arshavin will be the key .. but he’s only 1 man …

mind you so was TH14 !

  73. Stringfellow Hawke

    laughable stuff

    honestly laughable.

“don’t try to kid the older generation fo grovers that things were worse”

i hope that was tongue in cheek.

also, i rather do hope nobody copies some of the slanderous accusations on this blog and posts them to AFC.

  74. ethangunner

    Stringfellow Hawke

laughable stuff ? WTF are you on about ?
what is your purpose here hawke ?

if you cant contribute FUCK OFF !
