Prepared for the worst, but proud of what we achieved. Plus, ticketing info!

Happy Sunday to you all!

Well, as games go… that felt like a bit of a shocker… Hull were a well organised, powerful unit and if I am honest… they gave us a bit of a fright. We controlled the posession without ever really threatening, but I thought considering the season we’ve had… we did pretty well.

Wenger for me selected a strong team. He resisted the temptation to play Song, instead selecting Denilson who has performed admirably in the middle of the park of late. He also persisted with Diaby in middle, which again… I admired considering the sub standard performances he has been offering. Eboue out wide was a strange one… he consistently offers us nothing, but today he offered us nothing with a bit of stability. You can’t knock a player for being selected can you?

Adebayor showed both sides of his game… sometimes he looked superb on the ball… somtimes he looked clumsy… but he rose the highest from a corner and perfectly placed a header into the net. That is Ade… a battering ram of player who will nick Arsenal scrappy goals. Knock him all you like, but he is a difficult man to play against… he may not be Thierry, but he isn’t supposed to be… he is a physical prescence who is their to intimidate and cause problems.

The Hull goal was weak defending. Clichy backed off his marker and it was school boy… the goal came as no surprise, because I always expect us to concede.

Today, we responded… RvP played a superb ball into Nasri’s path… who took his time, but buried it into the bottom corner. A great goal from a player who is becoming increasingly important to our midfield.

Nik B finished it off after RvP received the ball in an offside position and laid it into his path.

Nik should show the same kind of urgency when he is started. He could be a top player if he played like that consistently… and I really hope those goals can help him regain the fans trust.

So a solid victory from Arsenal… and a resolute come back… let’s look towards the next game and hope we sign a bit of creativity to help us beat these teams early on. Don’t be to down about the performance, all the top teams seem to be having problems against the weaker oppostion!

See you in the comments!

P.S. If you are looking to buy or sell tickets, please e-mail me… don’t leave a comment! Oh, and thanks to the staff in the Hillgate (Notting Hill) for putting up with my noise!

I wonder is Corluka would be opposed to making a trip across north London?

Am i the only one who wouldnt mind him at the grove? Who gives a shit who hes with now. Its not like he is doing well there.

  2. ReVELAtion

traore’s not 17… Plus what is he doing at a spurs game being an arsenal player… The knuckle duster must be the weapon of choice/for protection purposes…

If we get Arshavin…..and continue playing the flat 4-4-2. Then it has to be
Arshavin on the left…Nasri on the right.
Arshavin is skillfull and musch faster than Nasri so he can take ppl n get to the by line. We dont need beautiful curling crosses, low hard crosses can be just as deadly….our players should then make sure they get on the end of them.
Arshavin is also a master of scoring from the left side at a tight angle.(He usually roofs it..its hard for the keeper to save)
I know you cant use youtube to judge a player, but if you watch some of his videos ….its something he does over and over again. It seems like he practices it. I think Arshavin would be much more productive than Nasri on the left. I think with Arshavin on the left, Clichy should stay at home more and concentrate on defending. We would see less of clichy bursting forward but that is not such a bad thing because most of his crosses are poor…even though he had an excellent one to Bendter earlier today.
Nasri may be able to use his trickery more on the right and beat players, since he lacks pace.
If we swicth formation then we can play Nasri centre and still put Arshavin out left. They could interchange with each other if necessary.

I still think we should get Vieira in on loan.

    and play this

    Almunia

    Sagna, Djourou, Toure, Clichy
    Arshavin, Nasri, Vieira, Vela
    RVP, Ade,

  6. patthegooner

And once people come back from Injury we will finally have an awesome bench as well with being able to also throw Eduardo, Theo, Cesc and Rosicky into the mix.

  7. Stu

I think we should leave ieira where he i. He is going to pompy anyway so..

We should just get Arshavin and …..Westermann for now and make the rest of the changes in the summer.

  8. Stu

Arent Villa just the luckiest bastards alive! A hand ball goal and a penalty for a foul outside te box. Bunch of cunts is what they are.

  9. Del

Clichy is good but makes far too many mistakes. He makes far more than the player he replaced. He switches off far too easily.Arsene says one thing in the press but look at his face and demeanor when Hull scored,he was livid. He slumps back in his seat hides in the back of the dugout. He really doesn’t believe in this squad either but has to put upwith them, as money is tight. This is his fault as he is the one that wanted the new stadium.Yesterday was a big big win.Utd,Chelsea and Villa all struggled yesterday against so called lesser teams. We won but for me the victory doesn’t fix ourproblems and I hope the manager doesn’t think it does.

    evening everyone,

    any news to talk about.

    just watched the spurs game.

a question why would anyone want to go to either spurs or pompey, and redknapp drools over bentley and bent well what can one say for 16 million.

We’re on a good run of form at the moment, it’s certainly not been plain sailing beating teams but we’ve improved and so has the quality across the board, and we are in the title race, as long as we keep consistent we could climb up the table. We’re on an 8 game unbeaten run in the league and the only other game we’ve lost is the Carling Cup game against Burnley, 12 points in the last 6 games and we’ve had a couple of big wins, so we’ve stepped it up a gear, we just need to keep that unbeaten run going.

This is a thought, even though Kaka is one of the best players in the world, and he’d liketo play for Arsenal by his own admission, even if he was serious about it it would not be possible, he either stays at Milan or joins Citeh. Real Madrid have stepped in with an offer and if he’s serious about playing Champions League football he’ll join them in summer. But being offered half a million a week to join Citeh is a huge amount of money, and Milan want to wipe the slate clean with their debts, who can honestly say that half a million pounds a week would not be of interest to them. He’s wealthy enough as it is, but you have absolutely no limits with that kind of money, you retire with hundreds of millions in your account because you’re too busy playing football to spend it all. But would he be happy at Citeh? My guess is yes, because in a year or two Citeh will buy a whole team of Robihno and Kaka types, and they already have some quality players there.

The youth route will be very fruitful for us, I’m sure of it, every year we’ll being a player or 2 through which will keep re-generating the team, and thinking about the cost of Arshavin, he’ll keep us ticking along for a good few years and he can play a big part in us winning the FA Cup, that’s the trophy we most have a chance of winning, but as we can see across the board, other team will have their upsets as well, as we did last season in the latter stages, lets hope we get lucky and keep our level of consistency, and the main thing is, we’re good enough to win the big games which are often the ones where the the extra point or two needed comes from.

  12. chozzer

ReVELA – The story was an old one from 18/9/07 when Traore was 17 and we beat the spuds 3-1 at the lane. Happy days.

  13. Gunner8

Did anyone notice that when Song’s number came up the players did everything they could to keep the ball in play and nick that 3rd goal!

  14. peachesgooner

Just seen you commented half an hour ago so you’ve probably gone and I’m talking to myself.

Not unusual lately, seems I come on in a lull :)

  15. peachesgooner

Just as I suspected, all alone on the le grove.

Can bang on about there being no money without Geoff and Pedro argueing with me:)

  16. peachesgooner

Actually Pedro, whenever you read this, something strange happened yesterday and I don’t know if anyone else found this – when I opened my spam this morning I had 58 msgs that were all the comments from le-grove from about midnight last nite. Its never happened before. . . . . . anyone else had it happen?

  17. peachesgooner

Oh no, I missed someone wanting to chat!!

Thanks wrighty for the info about the followup emails, I see what you mean, won’t do that again. I’m fine thanks, how are you?

  18. peachesgooner

You see this is what happens – we are such a complacent bunch that we win 3-1 away form home and now no-one wants to talk.

Still its better than the angst ridden ramblings of some other nights

  19. peachesgooner

Ok, I can’t wait any longer for someone to chat, I’m off to bed.

Nite nite all, see ya tmoro xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  20. Stu

Villa are a bunch of cheating twunts. A handball goal, a penalty for a foul outside the box and apparently got away with a load of fouls against Sunderland.

My day was ruined yesterday when southampton didnt win, Chelsea and the mancs grapped late winners and Villa cheated to win. It pissed me right off. Hull scoring their goal pushed me right to the edge. If Bendtner hadnt scored i would have gone crazy.

  21. ethangunner

hey if the ref calls it, you cant call a team cheaters ..
i liked aston villa pre – season .. out of all the clubs NOT too despise ,
i thought they were uncharacteristically british and had some good players that i wouldnt of minded seeing at our club !

  22. Stu

At the start of the season i wouldnt have minded Gabby, Young or….well maybe thats it. But now i couldnt hate them much more. Not sure what it is but i just dont like them.

  23. Stu

Was thinking earlier about Corluka. He was great with City but hasnt been goos at spuds at all for whatever reason. When Spuds get relegated in May Modric (the reason Corluka is there) will surely join Juve.

So basically, am i the only one that would be apposed to us buying Corluka off them?

IMO He hasnt been there long enough to have a disliking of us and is too good to even be there now. He can play all across the defence and is easily capable enough to play DM. Plus he is a starter for Croatia and might get along with Eduardo.

    Anyone?

  24. Stu

Surely he hasnt gained cunt status as of yet tho? The only thing he has done there is get knocked out by Gomes’ knee.

Hes certainly a better player than some that we have. Its not like im suggesting someone as much of a cunt as Bentley.

  25. ethangunner

id get pav , so arshavin has a buddy too pass too !
and modric so cesc has an understudy .

i think modric would play a lot better for us ..

  26. Stu

Modric is nearly 25. Corluka is certainly a better option than Eboue, certainly at rb and maybe even midfield too. I would probably prefer him in DM to Song too. At least if Wenger is playing people out of position then they should be capable footballers.

  27. BOY BETTER KNOW

the only one is lennon could you imagine having the pace of him and theo coming at you.lets say theo started on the right then the left back thinking phew ive got a break then seeing lennon coming on

  28. Stu

Lennon is more of a cunt that Corluka easily. At least Corluks doesnt have a shit chumk taken out of both his hair and eyebrow.

  29. Stu

I think Theo wants to sign an extension but isnt on the advice of his scumbag agent! Fucking agents-scum of the earth.

  30. Stu

He should be settled already. He has known he would be getting the job for months. Surely he would have prepared before jan1.

  31. BOY BETTER KNOW

yeah but obviously its a new place for him to come and work in he wont be knowing the ins and outs of the place will he

  32. Stu

I wonder how well he gets on with Wenger? AW and DD had a great relationship and DD probably convinced Wenger to let him spend that extra few million to get the player.

  33. BOY BETTER KNOW

only time will tell with this appointment,if wenger dont like him im sure he will know hopefully he and wenger can get on and provide us with the required players we need

  34. Arya

about the Clichy argument..he has been playing for us non stop for the past 2 season..think he is a bit worn out…just try to understand…he is not a robot…he makes mistake…i think the boss need to rest him for a few games…until the CL starts again…that will keep him fresh…

  35. Priyant

is it just me or are nasri and RvP just standing up big time….
hopefully we sign someone soon…..sick of waiting….Upson or Arshavin….

  36. ethangunner

who cares how he gets on with wenger ? he has a job too do , secure arshavin ..
if he is successful then why do you really care ?

it wont stop wenger leaving once his term is up .. and im sure wenger still wants to achieve
things that he cannot do with arsenal , and if he stays after this contract people then can tell me
he is the reason the club is not spending , but personally i think wenger is sick of not getting the personnel
that he requires to compete , anelka – ribery and inler’s etc..
these are all players i think he has wanted in the past and has been told NO by the board ..

  37. PDT

At Ivan’s level, he doesn’t need to understand the processes, he just has to understand the people.

Ethan, I am pretty sure you are right and Wenger will leave at some point in time. The question is, when and will we have a backup plan when that happens? Wenger won’t leave without notice, but will the board be able to respond?

  38. ethangunner

Andrei Arshavin’s agent says the deal taking his client to Arsenal should be concluded over the next week.

The 27-year-old Zenit St Petersburg ace has long been linked with a move to the Premier League and almost joined Arsenal’s big rivals Tottenham.

But now the Gunners are in pole position to seal the forward’s signature in a deal which is likely to be worth more than £15million.

The deal will also represent a club record for Arsenal, beating the £13million they paid for Sylvain Wiltord some nine years ago.

“The deal should go through this week,” Arshavin’s agent Dennis Lachter said in the News of the World.

“Andrei wants to go, Arsenal want him and Zenit accept they have to sell.

“It’s just a matter of sorting out the sums but the indication is it’ll happen soon, perhaps within days.”

  39. Confidentgoner

    Bloggers,

Lets believe we have Ash. Who is next? I think we need a beast of a DM. Inler, Cana, Alonso? Wenger, who????

I need to weigh in on team members. First off Bendtner is playing well now. The boy is best as an inpact player for now. I hope he will stay and develop his game now that his confidence is sky high. Eboue was playing well before his injury and he had that booing incident and has been struggling with confidence. Add that to his mental or concentration problem, then you see he put a decent effort in midfield. Will I sell him, no. He is a cover for Sagna and can do a job in midfield. If I am Wenger, I would give him confidence and work on his psycology. Song will grow too but should not start. You expose him too much. Ramsey, Jack are al talents that wil bud in 2 years and start claiming starting spots. Perhapos we should sign another keeper, as Alumina needs competition.
