It wouldn’t surprise me if he signs no-one, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he surprised me by signing 3 superstars.

First of all a very Happy New Year to all our Grovers, it’s been a great year and a fun year here on Le Grove, we’ve met a lot of new people and had much to talk about with our regulars, so thanks people, I only wish our team had done as well.

New Year, new story eh? Let’s kick off with the news that Real have offered Wenger £25mil to join them and they are ready to break the bank for Cesc, well I imagine we’d get £15mil compensation for Wenger and £40mil for Cesc so would you take it? Well would you?

Wenger’s thing is he never breaks a contract, so he won’t, you know how stubborn he is, so expect nothing, personally I would prefer to keep them both, but that’s up to him.
I would however go to FIFA about Madrid, this never stops does it? they must be breaking rules here, we should go for the bastards, someone needs to stop the bully boys.

£4mil for Gallas? If we could get in Hangeland, Upson or Chelleini I would take it, whatever your views on Gallas, he is disruptive, I like him and if you could just have him living in a bubble he would be great, but he’s not is he? and he’s getting on, so take the money Arsene, but replace him with a grown up, what about bringing Flamini back in a swap plus cash deal and that way we could trade Song for that case of refreshingly cool Gatorade (Cherry flavour).

I have a question for you Arsene, how is it that we have really skilful players like Nacer Barazite and Homer Simpson out on loan, when they could contribute to our passing game and yet have a completely untalented, hapless, hopeless player like Song in the first team? Go back to my previous comment for a way out if you want.

I would love to know Liam Brady’s opinion, if he told me he was worth keeping I’d listen, but I’d bet Ethan’s house he wouldn’t eh?

Forget their positions, because you’ve tried Song all over the pitch, just tell me why Song? Why, oh why?

Rumour has it that Philippe Senderos is not coming back and that Wenger is looking for a buyer and he is still looking at letting our Kolo go, surely if Gallas goes to Milan he will keep Kolo, unless he decides to team Hangeland up with Chelleini and sell them both, I can’t see that happening though, that involves spending money.

I hope he brings in a couple of wingers, or midfielders that can play out wide and at least hold the fort until Rosicky, Cesc and Theo return, to be honest though we always have so many injuries we could use them anyway, they couldn’t complain could they? Can you imagine Rosicky having a moan that he didn’t get enough playing time???

I can’t see us signing a keeper, I think Almunia’s appointment as VC speaks volumes there and I can’t see him signing a forward with Eduardo on the mend, Theo coming back and the likes of Simpson and Barazite on long term contracts.

I haven’t given up on Arshavin and Arteta and I honestly think at least one of them could happen, but wouldn’t it be great, if just once he gave us the fans what we want and signed them both, Arteta just has the edge with his premiership experience but I wouldn’t kick either of them out of bed.

Don’t raise your hopes there Grovers, it wouldn’t surprise me if he signed no-one, but then at the same time it wouldn’t surprise me if he surprised me by signing three players, does any of that make sense?

Today could be a busy day, let’s hope so eh?

Have a great day and a prosperous and pain free 2009, that’s right everyone, it’s 2009! The year we won the treble!!!

P.S. We have 2 pairs of tickets to the Plymouth game, they are going for cut price… so if anyone is interested, mail in.

BBK, its from a person who said he heard it. He also heard that Celtic were going to sign keeper Zaluska from Dundee. And that happened!

  2. Stu

However talented Witsel may be he is another youngster, one for the future. We need stars now not in a few years.

  3. bergkamp

what i dont understand is how come rafa benitez knows where to find good centre halfs and our man cant find a good defender even at chelsea

  4. Pat

Rumor says Krul coming back from loan and Harper will be #1 at Newcastle. Given to Arsenal?

A GK shouldn’t be our priority.

  5. Stu

I dont want Elano. Especially not for Kolo. If a CB leaves then I want the money to be used on a replacement not an attacker.

  6. Pat

Villa going for Podolski and/or Upson. Maybe even Bent if Spurs get Defoe. Carew’s agent confirms he might be out till March

  7. bergkamp

BBK he aint been crocked much in the last year, and he only cost 7mill,thats the price of an ok defender these days, not even a good one

  8. Pat

    From a Newcastle fan:

“So it looks as if the great and wonderful Shay Given might be leaving the toon. He is the only player I can think of who deserves every penny of the wages he gets, he is a true professional and is a real example to everyone involved in the game. Although I would hate to see him go I would understand he deserves to win things not fight against relegation playing among a bunch of second rate overpaid would struggle in the Championship players Best of luck Shay whatever you decide to do.”

  9. bergkamp

witsel is his own source,i havent seen anything sayin were interested, as for arshavin i wouldnt trust his agent as far as i can throw him

  10. bergkamp

kinnear says given is not for sale, given is wengers next door neighbour and one of his strangely unlikely best mates, will wenger wanna step on his toes?

  11. Pat

Jagielka and Yobo are playing CB for Everton now and last I heard Lescott was a bit disgruntled playing out of position.

  12. bergkamp

no one will sell their best players till the last minute, everyone will want a last couple games out of their best players thats why late is always the way pat

  13. bergkamp

lol poor old lescott,he looks like his wife grabbed a toaster by the plug and swung it round his head 15 times

  14. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

i read somewhere today that wenger wants delph from leeds that geeza from dynamo and possibly arshavin

  15. bergkamp

yeah but stu,its a sellers market,if u had a player and he was wantin to go u would want a bidding war before u accept the offer of the first bid

  16. Pat

I still can’t believe we missed out on Ribery. He’d score more goals than our strikers! Free kicks, right foot, left foot.

  17. bergkamp

ribery chose bayern though, that was his dream, what you gotta remember about guys like wenger AND ribbery, they are practically german if you look at the map

  18. Pat

If Afellay is available in the summer, I’d want Wenger to go for him. Not now. Now we need players who could come in and perform, not 18 year olds.

  19. Stu

    What about Aissati Pat?

imo we should bid for more players from big clubs in small-ish leagues. They will be good but cheap footballers.

  20. Pat

Chelsea bidding 10 million for Ben Arfa. We were after him, but wouldn’t pay the amount Lyon wanted. Then Wenger went after his 2nd choice, Nasri.

  21. bergkamp

yeah but huntelar done a henry an signed a new deal with the agreement that he could leave if a certain offer came in because the deal pushed his value to their askin price

  22. bergkamp

its true wenger is from starsbourge, way,the same area as ribery, people there even speak german a lot of them

  23. Pat

if Milan truly want Gallas to replace the crocked Nesta, we should try getting Flamini back. Imo, Gallas would be great in Serie A.

  24. Stu

We all thought Senderos was suited to Italan football too tho.

But Gallas for Flamini would be nice still, but would the fans want/accept him.

  25. Pat

Sometimes the fans just need to accept it. Flamini was GREAT for us and offering him only 60,000 BEFORE taxes was a bit cheap, don’t you think. All he wanted was 5k more.

Gallas would be great in Serie A, since his only weakness is in the air. And, Milan know how to defend, unlike us.

    Gallas for Woodgate, straight swap!hahah

  26. Pat

    skysports:

    Wenger: Ups and downs
    HALF-TERM RATINGS
    Marks for effort – C
    Marks for achievement – C
Strengths – Short passing, goalscoring, strong against ‘bigger’ clubs.
Weaknesses – Conceding late goals, failure to defend set-pieces, inability in the air, performing against ‘smaller sides’.
    Predicted final place – 4th.
August predicted final place – 4th.
Second half key man – Eduardo.

  27. bergkamp

see i dont think gallas would be great in seie a,i think them forwards are smarter, they are dirtier and the fans dont like sulkers,a couple racist chants and gallas will be looking for a next signing on fee from elsewhere, this is all he is after except were too dumb to sell him

  28. bergkamp

well its nothing new there, cash freeze is 5 years deep,if true wenger should walk, see he is like a classy player in a run of bad form is mr wenger, but maybe he isnt being supplied with means to find a cure

  29. bergkamp

i dont believe that wenger wouldnt like to work with ready made clas players,i also believe he feels a duty to stay at arsenal because he has brang a lot of young players there on a promise they will get to work with him,the chairmen take advantage of this fact and just ignore a lot he says in regards to strengthening

  30. Stu

The board are just keeping the money so when everything is paid off and they get the highbury money their shares will be worth more. They will sell to the highest bidder imo.

  31. Pat

I really hope Nina comes out and spills some info, if there is any, about whats going on at the Arsenal.

The Emirates could be the worst thing thats ever happened to Arsenal.

  32. bergkamp

or their gonna do a tony montana and filter good money out of the club via the cheque book and replace it with drug money from the hillwood family lol

  33. Stu

If there is no money available then he should just tell us and put us out our misery. Fuck the bpard, if there is no mloney they are making Wenger look like a mug. But if there is money and AW doesnt spend then he needs to go.

  34. bergkamp

wenger should quit,i think wengers weakness is he has become a gooner,he wont burn his employers via the press but he loves the club and can keep it to some kind of decent level

  35. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

first they come out and say ther’s money to spend then there isn’t can they just make up there fucking minds and come out with the truth for once

  36. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

i would love for them to put on a fans forum then we could relly get to the bottom of all this bollocks serious questions have to be asked

  37. bergkamp

see they are happy to spend 8 million on a midfielder or 12 million on a creative talent, thats cheap, but they arent willing to spend 8 million on a goalkeeper or 20 million on a striker, they have set limits per position i think

  38. bergkamp

they have a shareholders agm and the shareholders were critical of wenger but the board then dodged the financial questions BBK but the shareholders were too dumb to put 2 & 2 together and ask while the oportunity was there

  39. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

im really not expecting anyone to come in this january, stupidly of me i was just starting to wonder but after seeing that not now no way

  40. bergkamp

those positional limites= ok players or players with promise if they keep working hard, they wont afford players ready to do the business

  41. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

they need a proper fans forum where the likes of me and you begkamp could really ask some serious questions

  42. bergkamp

i think anyone in is a bonus,im just glad none of our best players have been on fire early this season lol, weird or what

  43. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

these cunts have got away with it for far to long now enough is enough time to really expose the cunts on that board

  44. bergkamp

id ask the question straight,BBK,whats the plans on the pitch?? we look like shyt its transfer window how much would u be willing to pay for each of the right 3 players?? if one cost 10 mill would we not be able to pay fifteen mill and 8 mill mill for the others?? this is the question

  45. bergkamp

if arsene showed them 3 players, with a total cost of say 32 mill would they try well hard to sign one and then just put in cheeky bids for the others?? thats the best arsene could hope for

  46. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

thats it bergkamp questions like that need raising not them share holder cunts who think the sun shine out there arses

  47. Stu

Any player that comes in in Jan will need to be able to hit the groung running but at the same time we need to start preparing for next season now. Buying from the prem is the smartest thing to do. Short term loans would be the best thing to seriously go for 4th. Forget the kids develpoment, we need to cement 4th and worry about feelings last. You cant keep everyone happy if you are to be a success and the sooner Wenger realises that the better.

  48. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

id love too slap all them cunts who was on that agm meeting the other week they are just asking to be slapped right around there faces

  49. bergkamp

this is why they didnt even want a proper chief executive durin the summer,no one at the club knew how to sign alonso, that suited the board

  50. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

desperate times call for desperate measure’s now at arsenal,we are in dire ned of big time players in this team

  51. bergkamp

not so much how much we have even spent, how much have we made from sales ,so if all these players are goin out how comes were breaking even when no one decent come in,great players go out,the club sign crap players for the same fee but profit with much lower wages

  52. bergkamp

nasri dont look a 12-13 million player to me,i think edelman must have paid that and got a personal check for a couple mill back off of OM

  53. bergkamp

our board are stuck in the past, they dont like players over 30 but the players over 30 these days have been so well taken care of they stay usefull till age 35-36 not full of pie and guiness like players of the 90′s,wages are standard amounts these days, ade has been hailed a thief for asking for the goin rate

  54. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

the board seem to forget that you do actually win prize money for winning trophy’s man u netted 80 mill for there triumph plus the money for the prem

  55. bergkamp

i think valencia is a better player,i know hleb was a better player, even riera’sall round game looks better, palacios i think his name is,arjen robben cost simular

  56. bergkamp

BBK but its risky spending 60 mill with a chance to win 80,the odds aint great, but they have forgotten that the pitch is what the whole thing revolves around

  57. bergkamp

its not just about winning, the fun has gone out of arsenal, were predictable and boring and gettin worse, this is what pisses me off more than not winning trophies, theres nothing to look forward to while every other club is shopping arsenal are havin a january and a summer sale

  58. Stu

I would sign Valencia in a heart beat but Wenger wouldnt. Im getting seriously pissed off with his stubourness and refusal to buy quality players. He always goes for the same thing. A young player who might be good in a few years but never are, or a cheap african because they are “athletes” and thats all that matters. When will the french cunt wake up and see that football doesnt win things anymore. Its all about tactics these days and Wenger doesnt know the meaning of the word!

  59. Pat

Daily Star and Ther SUn are the worst fucking sources ever though. Total BS, 90% of the time.

Sometime last season, I read we’re ranked 6thor 7th in terms of spending.

United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs, and Newcastle all spent more than us in the last 10 years.

  60. bergkamp

well i wanna walk before i crawl,80 mill is great to win but i will settle for 2 ten million pound players, that is like a first step, kinda like an acomplishment when ur affraid of heights but u pluck up the courage to look over the edge,we need about 50 million worth to become convincin,a forward that raely misses good chances costs 25 plus these days but if were a big club thats what we need

  61. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

ok i understand bergkamp, yeah i make you right on nothing to look forward too with the club any more, can you remember the last time you got excited about a signing they brought in

  62. bergkamp

the thing is pat youcant trust the press but hillwood did have to come out in them after they exposed toures request, the star i find are gettin slightly accurate

  63. bergkamp

we bought bergkamp and platt, that was amazing, and when we signed jose reyes, that was a time i thought nah we buy good players but never the one you see on tv and say wow,i was stuck on the m25 in the snow,a lorry had flipped,i was on the motorway sitting there all night even sent my mate out to get the beers an the burger king BBK and we signed reyes on that day

  64. bergkamp

ermmm john jensen,he was meant to be our goalscoring midfielder after scoring goals at the euros includin the winner in the final, george graham had a bet with someone that he would buy them a case of champagne for every game jensen didnt score in from his debut till his first goal, thats why he got on the bungs

  65. bergkamp

sol cambell,i was watching it live on sky sports centre and the press thought we were unvailing richard wright and sol came walking out

  66. bergkamp

i remember we signed ian wright,we knew he was great but he didnt seem to be what we needed, infact that kind of took us backwards,it was a strange deal, i remember we sold keown all because he asked for a £50 pay rise then bought him back for over a million quid what we sold him for

  67. Ricardo

Song is miles better than Eboue AND Bendtner

A player like Song (Gilberto) is why other players feel free to play attacking football. Why are so destructive on this guy – it is not like he isn’t doing his best for the team. He plays a certain role, he does look slow at times but I thin this is actually misleading, he is very young but already has good positional sense – and when he matures (by playing) he will free-up Fabregas to move more forward.

I think Nzogbia would help. Can’t see Arteta working-out in the long-run unless Wenger is already thinking of selling Cesc!
Get shot of Bendtner – play Vela & Eduardo!

  68. bergkamp

the reyes one was my favourite signing because we were playin so well and when your ontop thats what u do,u just maintain it by spendin on one or two here and there each yea,our failure is by not improving the squad when we won stuff,we always lost maybe one or two an didnt buy good replacements or players capable of keepin regulars fighting to be in the team

  69. bergkamp

no but at the time he earnt huge wages an probably got a good fee for signing so it was probably the equivilent to signing a £15 player old sol

  70. Stu

Ya he signed a contract for 100k a week. It would probably have been a lot less if he cost the club a transfer fee.

  71. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

them 2 goals against the chavs in the cup was probably the highlight of reyes’s career at arsenal i.m.o

  72. bergkamp

id like nzogbia, but as for song, his main problem is he is slow,u cant defend against pace, any arsenal fan should know this, especially if u are slow

  73. Stu

That United game where he got kicked around the place was a disgrace. It effectively ruined him and he was never the same again.

  74. bergkamp

nah the highlight of reyes career mmmm maybe them goals but i reckon it was the last 5 or 6 games of the season an we were champs, theirry was injured an jose was just bein played upfront alone mainly and we were crap but he was keepin us invincible

  75. bergkamp

that ref was hired stu,the neville brothers screaming at the ref he cant book them because reyes isnt english

  76. bergkamp

i think had we have stayed with 11 men in the champions league final reyes would have been used for the most important final 30 minutes a fotballer could ever face

  77. Stu

And remember Donkeys tackle on Ljungberg when it was just the 2 of them. That was a definate red but the ref played on. it was a disgrace in itself. The ref screwed us that day.

  78. bergkamp

when we signed petit we just knew he was gonna be good,he had the walk, the sky blue suit, i just knew even though he was previously a left back he would be a monster

  79. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

Ay, caramba! We’re getting a teensy bit eccentric for the first game of 2009. With 9,000 Plymouth Argyle fans gracing our away end in an effort to make their day out one to remember, we’re offering Gooners the chance to get hold of a sombrero at The Rocket!

Why? Well we could say it’s in tribute to our little Mexican star Carlos Vela or to keep the scorching sun off your necks this January but the first answer to “why?” is “why not?!”. A bit of silliness in the stands to match the silliness that’ll be on the back pages throughout this January transfer window! Also, we’re asking Gooners who want a sombrero to make a minimum donation of £3 instead of an actual purchase price. ALL proceeds will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust so please dig deep.

  80. Pat

I liked Reyes and I liked the way he played. He won La Liga for Madrid by scoring 2 goals after coming on as a 2nd half substitute in the last game of the season. Madrid were down 1-0.

  81. bergkamp

weve been screwed plenty, the champions league final was fixed because for once it was on tv in usa, they needed goofy to get a medal to get them yanks interested in what was meant to be his one man show at the world cup

  82. DeeOzGooner

    gday fellas

so no transfer news yet eh?…gona be like this for rest of the month…

shay given wud be soo nice, but it wont happen, why wud we buy a world class keeper…we have manwell…makes me wana cry!

  83. Stu

There is a french left back now called Mathieu. He is basically Petit. Blonde and plays left back and DM. Wenger should consider him. Free kick specialist too.

  84. bergkamp

i wonder if arsenal will oneday do a villa and spend in the market and give away sponsorship space to charity

  85. bergkamp

everyone who thinks we will be here all crying on the final night of the transfer window dissapointed please now say IIIIIIIIIII
