It wouldn’t surprise me if he signs no-one, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he surprised me by signing 3 superstars.

First of all a very Happy New Year to all our Grovers, it’s been a great year and a fun year here on Le Grove, we’ve met a lot of new people and had much to talk about with our regulars, so thanks people, I only wish our team had done as well.

New Year, new story eh? Let’s kick off with the news that Real have offered Wenger £25mil to join them and they are ready to break the bank for Cesc, well I imagine we’d get £15mil compensation for Wenger and £40mil for Cesc so would you take it? Well would you?

Wenger’s thing is he never breaks a contract, so he won’t, you know how stubborn he is, so expect nothing, personally I would prefer to keep them both, but that’s up to him.
I would however go to FIFA about Madrid, this never stops does it? they must be breaking rules here, we should go for the bastards, someone needs to stop the bully boys.

£4mil for Gallas? If we could get in Hangeland, Upson or Chelleini I would take it, whatever your views on Gallas, he is disruptive, I like him and if you could just have him living in a bubble he would be great, but he’s not is he? and he’s getting on, so take the money Arsene, but replace him with a grown up, what about bringing Flamini back in a swap plus cash deal and that way we could trade Song for that case of refreshingly cool Gatorade (Cherry flavour).

I have a question for you Arsene, how is it that we have really skilful players like Nacer Barazite and Homer Simpson out on loan, when they could contribute to our passing game and yet have a completely untalented, hapless, hopeless player like Song in the first team? Go back to my previous comment for a way out if you want.

I would love to know Liam Brady’s opinion, if he told me he was worth keeping I’d listen, but I’d bet Ethan’s house he wouldn’t eh?

Forget their positions, because you’ve tried Song all over the pitch, just tell me why Song? Why, oh why?

Rumour has it that Philippe Senderos is not coming back and that Wenger is looking for a buyer and he is still looking at letting our Kolo go, surely if Gallas goes to Milan he will keep Kolo, unless he decides to team Hangeland up with Chelleini and sell them both, I can’t see that happening though, that involves spending money.

I hope he brings in a couple of wingers, or midfielders that can play out wide and at least hold the fort until Rosicky, Cesc and Theo return, to be honest though we always have so many injuries we could use them anyway, they couldn’t complain could they? Can you imagine Rosicky having a moan that he didn’t get enough playing time???

I can’t see us signing a keeper, I think Almunia’s appointment as VC speaks volumes there and I can’t see him signing a forward with Eduardo on the mend, Theo coming back and the likes of Simpson and Barazite on long term contracts.

I haven’t given up on Arshavin and Arteta and I honestly think at least one of them could happen, but wouldn’t it be great, if just once he gave us the fans what we want and signed them both, Arteta just has the edge with his premiership experience but I wouldn’t kick either of them out of bed.

Don’t raise your hopes there Grovers, it wouldn’t surprise me if he signed no-one, but then at the same time it wouldn’t surprise me if he surprised me by signing three players, does any of that make sense?

Today could be a busy day, let’s hope so eh?

Have a great day and a prosperous and pain free 2009, that’s right everyone, it’s 2009! The year we won the treble!!!

P.S. We have 2 pairs of tickets to the Plymouth game, they are going for cut price… so if anyone is interested, mail in.

we should sign a petition,100thousand gooners all promising to give a tenner twowards a defensive midfielder, hold on thats only a million quid, bad idea

  3. DeeOzGooner

dm is our biggest requirment, but song being wngers lovechild will never be replaced…

bring back the flamsta…man imagine how diff this season wud be, if we had just paid him what he wanted…instead we have to scrap with fkn villa for 4th…

  4. Stu

Flamini could have been replaced with ease but Wenger decided to save a few million and hope Denilsong would work out. And if he thought Diaby was the answer then he is delusional(sp).

  5. insidealbania

Good morning my fellow Grovers. I hope you all a happy new year and a few new signings and some silver this year for our beloved Arsenal.

Its a been a long time since I came on here (because I had to travel to some internet-unfriendly countries) but I have been looking throught he posts and it looks like Geoff and Pedro with a few of Le Grove regulars should be on the board of the Arsenal. Things which we have been saying here since may are now coming out of AW’s mouth and other’s at the club.

December wasa very bad month for us and it looks like Gallas is causing shit at the club to get out and I believe he should go instead of Kolo. This is where AW begins to correct his mistakes, get rid of WG and then sign ready made world class CB x 2 and DM and CM and a possible winger. A GK would be the cherry on the cake.

We live in hope, and if they dont act now, 4th spot will be very hard to achieve this season, and with the new rules we have to aim for 3rd at least.

  6. Thomas Vik

Our only hope now is that Diaby suddenly can find some compsure too his game, and gel in the midfield with denilson. He is capable of it, but i think it’s too soon ,his body is still lingering from that horrible legbreaker

  7. DeeOzGooner

    fark me!
“Arsene has a lot of young, talented players at the club and I think he will probably give a chance to one or two of them.”

i thought he was already doing that!!!…previously the board would say he has money at his disposal, but now theyre saying to tighten up…definately no signing now boys!

though it might be a good time to pickup a few bargains! as if arsenal are feeling the pinch and theyre run ‘so well’ then other clubs must feel like theyre nuts are in a vice!

  8. Stu

2 and a half years is a long linger from an ankle injury. imo He doesnt really have a position. All we know is that he is an attacker.

  9. Thomas Vik

Good point DeeOzGooner. At least we depend soley on our own money,so maybe we’re one of the few clubs in europe that can buy a player at the moment. A defensive midfielder with a creative eye would do it for me

  10. Stu

And remember in the summer the board also said that if Wenger wanted to spend 30m on a player the board would give it to him. WHERE THE FUCK IS THAT MONEY GONE TO????

  11. Stu

I find it illogical that they take 3m per home game, never spend and always sell our best players but still cant spare a few million for Wenger to strenghten a weak squad. Its a strange one.

  12. Thomas Vik

But we been kept in the shade by the board apparently.puts Wenger in a different light , does’nt it?Someone in the commentssection even refered to him as a ”cunt” earlier tonight. The man who who has helped Arsenal get three PL-Titles is refered to as cunt, prizeless….. Wenger is paid to be critizised, unjust or just. But referring to the man as a cunt is a fucking disgrace

  13. Thomas Vik

Yeah, whats happend to the fucking money? This most be the u-turn of the century.I’m very upset now.I was really hoping for additions in the midfield, and the singnals from the club has been that theirs fucking money too spend. And now it’s all gone?I CAN NOT BELIVE THIS BULLSHIT

  14. Stu

lol that was probably me Vik. Get over it. There is no room for sentiment in any game. As grateful as i am to him he is being a cunt if he isnt spending money thats there, if not then its not his fault.

  15. Thomas Vik

Well ,i don’t think he is a cunt in any retrospect.Mourhino is a cunt,Cole is a cunt, Drogba is a divin cunt,Terry is one of the worst cunts ever, and the biggest cunt of all for me personally is Ruud van Nistelory(Oh,I hate him so much it’s fuckin scary).I prefer to call people like that cunts, not Wenger Stu.But it’s no big deal for me,we’re all free to say and write what we want, but it does’nt put i smile on my face when people call wenger a cunt, unless it’s utd-fan after we beaten them.:)

  16. Stu

OK fair enough Vik. I suppose it was a bad choice of words on my behalf. I agree it was a harsh term. I will try not to call him that from not on, chosing different words instead.

  17. Thomas Vik

Maybe the dayli star is havin a laugh,Stu? First the toure story and now this? It’s eye opening stuff and two great scoops for this shitty paper

  18. Stu

I find it impossible to believe that the club has no money! We dont spend, we have record profits every year and we take in 3m for every home game. Its just crazy that we are so low on cash. Its not fair on Wenger, its not fair on our few good players and its not fair on us, the fans. We pay top dollar to see great players and great football but get neither. Where is all the money gone!!!!!!! And year after year we are linked with shit players who do nothing positive for the club, as well as good players that admire our football. How much more can these top players say without actually saying how much they want to play for us. Its a disgrace and shows just how ambitious the board actually is.

  19. Stu

Inler also recently said he is happy at Udinese and doesnt show any interest in a move. Its probably just the journos recycling summer runours.

  20. DeeOzGooner

i have mentally prepared myself for no transfers – apart from the standard teeny-boppers that usually come in…so with that in mind prefer to discuss what we can do with the current squad

first of all in defense, toure shud be re-assured and signed up, vc shud go to toure and he should be partnered with the ever-improving djourou. Almunia needs some time on the bench to think about the way he’s been flapping at crosses recently….sagna/clichy are fine, dont think its a form-slump from them(compared to last season)…but more a lack of confidence across the back line…

midfield…denilson has definately been playin better than song, so should get the dm role no matter who’s fit…i beleive diaby could play down the middle, tho he’s injury0prone so hard for him to get a solid run in that position…on the left i’d play vela and nasri on the right (havent seen him much there, but his ball-control skills say he’d be able to pull it off)

upfront id have to go for ade and rvp…tho im hoping dudu can firm up a spot here…

so thats it lads, a decent team in my view, but one lacking serious confidence…and one that is very lacking in leadership….

what to do…u can only play with the cards youve been dealt…

  21. ethangunner

    thomas vik

the BOARD have no money to spend ! but im sure they have either hit krankie for a loan ..
or pushed out there loan repayments out a further 20 mil .. on top of there 400 mil stadium repayment and highbury costing about 300 mil .

And dont say our club isnt in debt , FFS on the books we are so far in the red with outstanding
debt it isnt fucking funny !

yes they have a plan , to sell highbury during a recession … and not quite break even but close enough … good long term plan , but it doesnt help us now !

and this is a long term repayment scheme of which we are still in the middle of of course no EXTRA cash is available .. not when you owe probably over 600 million quid to the banks !

release date of highbury was DEC 2009 , now its mid 2009 ! they are rushing construction to
complete before schedule , so they can CASH IN !..

another fair call , but that wont help us this window .. any cash wenger will get is borrowed or off cash player sales proceeds ..

    I agree stu

, wenger has done ok since he turned himself into a profit organization .
just not as well to predict the money spending spree started by the chevs 5 years ago .
that fucked up some of his thunder , maybe this squad was good enough V’s the pre spending big clubs like the chevs to get players .

the chev’s defiantly stole any thunder wenger was going to get for re-creating a 2nd invincibles prior to retirement ..

now he just looks desperate !
my bet is krankie is filling us up ..
why else did he join ? or be allowed too ?
they were against his money .. and ideals …

  22. iceman

    Ethan…

So that’s a good thing right….we needed a sugar dad….and now he’s on board….I reckon for GBP20m plus whoever he sells this month (prob Gallas/Toure) will be added to that…..

If we can bring in 2 players for around GBP 20m then we really have a chance at 1 of 2 cups…

The league will solely depend on who can out run the other….sort of like the last man standing….

So bottom line is we best hope he gets the funds through….coz I’m pretty sure he wants to buy….otherwise he wouldn’t have tried so hard towards the end of the last window…..

  23. rico01

Cant believe that no-one here in the UK is not up and blogging yet, nor that somewhere in this fine world we live in, there is not a Le Grove blogger in sight……

Strange old night I have had, restless, so got up and read the news and sfuff…. Then to my favourite, Le Grove, and I have a little feeling a signing will happen today, other than L J signing pro terms……… And someone we have nothing much about…..

Or am I just dreaming still…………………

  24. rico01

Lot better thanks, the aches and shivers have gone off, just got sore tonsils and deaf in one ear, otherwise, tickertyboo thanks…..

  25. rico01

Ah, thats good rico, you have a lot to do today, chicken runs to clean, cavies bedroom to be cleaned and washed, you wont have time to blog today……!!

  26. rico01

iceman – Morning to you. No hangover over for me, I was in my bed by 9.15pm, New Years eve, hot lemon and sudafed!!

    How about you ?

  27. iceman

Great news to start the year with….he’s our next world beater :)

Now for some grown ups please Wenger…………

  28. iceman

    Rico…….

    Ah….I had a rather eventful one……..

Was in bed by 3am ish though…………

Not out of choice……. (see passed out) ;)

Low key to usher in 2009 for you eh?

  29. rico01

Hi george – Little Jack Wilshere, good news for the future. Seems or the ‘in house’ stuff is getting sorted out, Theo hopefully next and then 3/4 new players contracts would be a nice conclusion to January ;)

  30. rico01

george – whats going wrong with the cricket over there, cant believe that the Aussie’s can lose a couple of matches and then everyone says they are on the decline…

Warne’s coming back for the Ashes I hear ??

  31. gnarleygeorge9

    rico

Oz cricket is going through transition or decline one of the two. Doug Bollinger for the 3rd test coz the SCG is his home ground. How remedial thinking is that. Things are bad when the bowler with advanced hair gets a game.

  32. rico01

Thats funny george – hasn’s Warney had his done too ? Should all make the Ashes a good competition though, home win i reckon ;)

  33. gnarleygeorge9

…….anyway, football is our new summer sport here. Cricket is run/played by Indians.

Cricket lost me when sledging was outlawed. Its now a wimps game.

“Oooooooh don’t look @ me like that or I’ll tell the match referee” is just not cricket IMO

  34. rico01

I dont think it will be far off george, i relly hope he takes this cup seriously, to win it would be a great confidence builder (the final i mean) But maybe we will see 1/2 reserves in… Who would you play, I hope something like

    Fabianski

    Bac JD Kolo Clichy

    Nasri/LJ Merida Diaby Rambo

    Ade Vela/RvP

  35. gnarleygeorge9

I think that starting 11 should get us through this round, hoping to get Blyth Spartans in the next round, @ home.

  36. ethangunner

jack wilshere will be captain one day, the next tony adams , hard to think about it currently .. lets just hope now wenger will not be afraid to play him !

’cause thats what it was all about …

    next english captain too !!!

  37. rico01

morning ethan, i dont think Arsene will play him too much, hope i am wrong though as he is a strong little fella with a vast amount of guts and stamina. But i suppose we must not forget he is still growing and over playing him will ruin his bones…. ! But is there any difference between 90 mins for the reserves and 90 mins for the first team??

I hope he gets 15-20 mins in each game at least, he can cope with that for sure

  38. rico01

Has the Daily Star suddenley become the Arsenal Mouthpiece – The paper seems to have PHW quotes in it the last few days….

  39. iceman

    Sorry folks…..

Had to step out for a bit…..

Gnarley….Yes I think he will go for an older spine (if we can call it that, what with everyone being under 21)….

….or start with a younger team and have senior players on the bench just in case….

    Rico….

…yeah you can say I was bad….but not proud of it….coz the morning after is the worst….and it’s all downhill…. :(

But I’m looking forward to seeing a player or 2 holding up the shirt on the arsenal website to make me feel better ;)

  40. iceman

    It’s rather humid here….but I guess it’s better than what you got…..

You been awake for sometime now….and rather early…..everything ok?

…..would a Eboue hatrick against Plymouth make you feel better? ;)

  41. rico01

Just a bad night trying to sleep, too much coughing! Otherwise all is ok thanks iceman, its -2 here, bloomin chilly!

An Eboue hatrick, now theres a thought…. Kind of hoped he wouldnt play, but if he does and scores three then that would be fab, but i think i would keel over with shock ;)

  42. rico01

According to the Telegraph, West Ham are is deep doo doo, the owners holding company is about to go ‘ping’ and Gudmunsssssson needs to sell, maybe we should pounce now

  43. iceman

    Anytime Rico ;)

………..So now you know if he does………it was for you and you alone ;)

-2…..Typing that gave me the chills……….

  44. rico01

Reading it has made me feel ill!! ;) But I would welcome a hatrick from him or Song if it means we get through, but I really hope neither play :)

  45. AR

I think Parker would be a good addition to the squad. Problem is…………..he’s English, so he will go for an inflated price. AW dusnt do inflated prices, lol.

  46. iceman

If only he was reading this eh…….here’s to hoping…..

We know Song’s suspended…..Eboue just might have a surprise for you…..Ok I really better stop it with that eh? :)

  47. kelsey

    Morning all,

    Rico are you still poorly.

i find it strange we are only linked to players from the likes of west ham and newcastle, and if it really is true that there is still no real money around we will have to sell first before we buy candidates being nicci, bedntner and gallas, but their combined value would buy us one decent player.

Bottom line is that we the fans are being lied to and maybe if wenger had said 2 years ago we cannot compete for a number of years to safegaurd the financial structure of the club, our expectations wouldn’t be so high.

we are an average team, with no real star players and no passion for the shirt.sometimes i wish we would have stayed at highbury,or with the recession are we waiting for chelsea, pool and united to go tits up.

  48. rico01

    you better had iceman ;)

hi kelsey – i am, and i am fed up with feeling groggy….. !! How are the woofa’s, and you and the other members of your family of course ?? ;)

    signing day is today……………

  49. kelsey

fine rico, everything under control with the dogs, and the family is well.

crazy weather here.yesterday was baking t shirts and shorts and today just as warm but raining.

i hope we play a strong line up tomorrow otherwise it will be nearly 2 weeks since the first team played, but knowing our manager i reckon he will mix it up a bit.

  50. ethangunner

    rico

But is there any difference between 90 mins for the reserves and 90 mins for the first team??

No there isnt much , in fact id think you would have trouble with keeping up with him anyhow !
use him sparingly against the boltons and wigans of the EPL .. but villa – liverpool ! the spuds ..
all teams who can pretend they can pass .. i think he wouldnt get too man handled !
i hope that hasnt got you all excited !

i just hope arsene now try’s him in the cesc position !

  51. rico01

kelsey – you could wear t-shirt and shorts here yesterday, but the only problem would have been i would have frozen to death ;) you are lucky :)

Glad all is good with you and of course the woofa’s

ethan – hope you are right, but we are talking Arsene ;)

  52. kelsey

so the headlines today is that we have little or no money to spend, according to phw and first and foremost arsenal football club is a business, and to remain liquid is the only priority.that basically tells us that we must soldier on with what we have got, most probably sell more players and finish up with a team of understudies and kids and championship players.

i know we are in a recession, but if the board think this is the way forward we are in for a worse time over the next couple of seasons than we are in now.

    all is left is memories.

  53. rico01

Jay – Sky Sports talk poo poo, they hate us and will write anything bad at a flash, one of the pudits is raving about Stevie G, but fail to mantion he is due in court for being a thug – if that was Gallas or RVP that would be the only thing they would talk about, not their footie…

I truely believe we have have two players in for sure, three if Gallas goes, and i will put Geoff’s house on it ;) But please dont tell Geoff………. ;)

  54. PDT

What a great situation for Crank-eh and Usmanov!

The club’s doing well financially, their investment is in safe hands, they don’t even need to spend management time managing it. Why on earth would they want to take the club over?

Every time Arsene starts having naughty dreams of spending, someone on the board comes out and talks about how strong we are financially (with the subtext that we would like to continue that way – No Risks Please, We’re The Arsenal.

And when Arsene says he doesn’t want to spend, the team is good enough, the board says – It is up to the manager. We have 75 million in singles for him to splurge!

  55. gnarleygeorge9

PHW needs to understand that Arsenal – The business is going backwards, i.e there are more & more empty seats per home game. That means that the shareholders, the fans who reserve their seats are becoming more & more disgruntled.

So PHW, Arsenal – the business, had better start winning silverware coz silence can be deafening in an empty stadium.

Does this geezer PHW know anything about winning football trophys. I think we are about to find out coz if Wenger doesn’t top up the supplies, Arsenal – The Football Club are doomed in the short term.

  56. gnarleygeorge9

And another thing for PHW. With Britain hosting the next Olympics: & a big chance of hosing the 2018 World Cup; plus this indefinite recession we are all told about; its going to be tight finding lucative sponsors. So if the fans stay away, where will the money come from for the over paid players/staff. Oh silly me, a foreign Trillionare.

  57. rico01

PDT – thats my point exactly, SS’s are a bunch of…. you know, that word you boys use ;)

So Given is definately leaving Newcastle according to his lawyer…. Bet he goes to Spuds
