So who will it be? Someone old, someone new, someone borrowed or…

by & filed under Uncategorized.

My guess is he will put one of the youngsters in the middle to line up alongside Denilson, his choice will be Merida, Ramsey or Diaby, and my hunch is Diaby.

I’m not against it because I’ve always said Diaby is a class act in the middle and Wenger never plays him there so we’ll see.

Ramsey makes the bench and Merida doesn’t so my feeling is he won’t step up, but expect two new faces at the Grove in January, Nacer Barazite to come back from Derby and Traore to come back from Portsmouth and fill that troublesome left side of midfield.

And that is probably that my friends, no new signings, but at least Wenger will still get his no ‘spending the money’ bonus, so at least he’ll have a good Christmas, don’t forget that isn’t a fact, it’s just my opinion.

For the Villa game though I would give them a surprise, go at them from the start with pace but strangle the midfield.

This would be my line up.

Almunia (because we have no choice)

Sagna Djourou Gallas Gibbs

Nasri Ramsey (but we know it will be Song) Denilson Clichy (pace)

Diaby

RVP

I think that may unhinge them, they won’t be expecting it and we may just get a result, they rely on pace and if we put Clichy on the wing it may well confuse their wide men.

Tony Adams has said he is more Graham than Wenger and wants to manage the Arsenal one day, well done Tony, I wouldn’t want another Wenger (Post 2005) in my lifetime that’s for sure.

All the rage in Milan ya?

Zenit slaughtered Bayern last year without Arshavin so it’s hard to say how good he actually is, he’s like a Fabregas or Hleb, he doesn’t change games by himself he needs the right players around him.

  2. Wardo

Hi David, I’m not an AKB either……ASTEVE hit the nail on the head……….

Don’t want Arshavin unless we could swap SONG and BENTNER for him !!!
The shitty spuds Russian purchases are still not all that and Arshavin only had one 9maybe 2) decent matches in the EURO’s……not sure he’d

  3. kelsey

personally,i hope IF we buy we can get a couple from the p.l. we haven’t got time to let players adjust to the pace,

the only player i can remember we have bought from overseas in the last number of years that has fitted in from day one is sagna.can anyone else think of anyone else.

  4. avenell

Kelsey .. Thanks for asking.. The shirts, polo’s, sweatshirts, hoodies and caps we do are heat pressed.. You would be better off getting fleeces embroidered because of the nature of the material.
I can find out after the holiday for you if you need someone to do them.

  5. RasDef

Kelsey- what do you think about Nasir! Hes done a lot for the team this year!!! For me he is the man of the first part of the season….

  6. kelsey

    avenell,
its the colour which is the bugger.you can get bottle and forest green but we need emerald.i have the artwork for the embroidery and can get the embroidery done.thanks.

  7. t-buzz

Merry Xmas and Happy New Year Grovers…. at this point Iam signing off as we all get to leave the office early today, woohooo!!!

Have a wonderful time, drive safe , be good and hope to meet you all again in one piece!!
    Come On The Arsenal!!
    Adios!! :)

  8. RasDef

Composure is what the team is lacking and from what i’ve seen from Belamy is the lack of composure, otherwise he would score a lot more goals, like S. Cruz. Why should Arsenal try to solve their problems with the same…

  9. kelsey

wardo,i don’t disagree with you about reyes but there was some friction with him and TH

RasDef,nasri has certainly made an impact, but he is like wine, doesn’t travel well.

i meant judged over a full season on a consistant basis.

  10. Pedro

Keyser, I think Arshavin is a game changing player… he is a little genius… he is like Riquelme when he was at his best.

He’s not too prolific though… 50 goals in 250 games.

Hey… at least he isn’t injury prone!

  11. avenell

Kelsey.. I have just looked through my cataloges and they areall forest or bottle green too.
I know a company that does all off the formula one team clothing and GP1 stuff they may be able to help.
I don’t know the prices but a friend of mine had her corporate clothing done there if that is of any help

  12. Wardo

Kelsey, I think the same can be said bout Wiltord…….everytime he scored, everyone seemed to run the the last player that had played the ball i.e. Bergkamp / Henry.

  13. RasDef

What i like about Nasri is that he’s a small guy that doesnt like to be pushed around… Other teams try to piss him off by tackeling him hard but he doesnt loose his temper! Thats a real Arsenal quality (like Henry). It must be the fact that teams play with more dedication at home + Le Boss doesnt what him to get injured.. That probably why he plays people like Diaby and Song…

  14. Keyser

Pedro – I dunno about Riquelme at his best, he’s a good player just don’t know if he’s what we need, we need a player like him with a creative edge but we’re still going to have to add in other areas to compliment him.

At Zenit’s asking price I don’t see us spending much more if we’ve already bought Arshavin.

  15. Pedro

Keyser, I agree. We already needed one midfielder at the minimum… and now we need 2 really.

That is why Alonso would have been perfect. When Cesc returns… he can play along side him or out on the right.

I’d still like to see diaby given a go next to a more defensive minded midfielder.

  16. RasDef

True I would also like to see Diaby in the center midfield, give the guy a chance to be our new Viera, Song didnt manage unless he needs more time.. Who knows what Arsene is thinking apart from the fat cats at the board….

  17. avenell

I am hoping it is good news that Fabregas doesn’t need an op.
My only concern is Arsenal won’t decide until April that he does then he is out for six months on top to recover..
    :(

  18. wolski7

my line up for Boxing day

    Almuia
    sagna, Jd, gallas, Clichy
    nasri, Denilson Ramsey, Vela
    Diaby
    RVP

But we all know it will be
    Eboue, Denilson, Song, Nasri

Looks like Arshavin price will drop due to the climate and thevalue of the £…so think AW statement about not realistic…is one purely of money…so could happen

Inler…again news around the net seems to be interesting.

Hey, pedro/geoff. what about Le Grove T-Shirts for us to buy…
    Diaby

  19. Anothersteve

David. Wenger’s made plenty of mistakes. All I’m saying is that he deserves the chance to correct them. I know plenty will argue that’s what the last 4 years have been but my view is that the team we see today is the result of being skint 3-4 years ago. I believe Wenger’s had cash to spend for the past 18 months but refused to because the youth experiment was in full swing. Personally I don’t blame him for wanting to finish what he started on that front but the fact is it became more of a personal crusade rather than what was best for Arsenal. For that Arsene is guilty, no arguments. So we can blame the board / stadium for the need to have the youth project in the first place and Wenger for sticking with it longer than he should have.

  20. Eddy

    You can dream all you want Geoff(although Iam not sure about Clichy left midfield)but the likelyhood is that Arsene will go with the same midfield that played most of the second half against the scruffy,scrappy,lucky scouse gits;
Diaby wide left(not his position and never will be and he looks a shadow of the player he could be in the middle),Denilson Song(please no,as partnered with Denilson we have so little invention and drive coming forward it’s embarrassing)and then the Nasri wide right.Upfront if the cunt Bendtner is fit he will play. This formation(less Nasri wide right)has tried and failed many times………………come on Arsene earn for fucks sake open your eyes to the truth….Bendtner isn’t good enough and Song is carried largely by his partner.

  21. Pedro

It was pretty bleak reading on Sky news this morning:

    Song 0 goals, 0 assists
    Diaby 0 goals, 1 assist
    Denilson 2 goals, 4 assists

    Shocking… :-(

  22. kelsey

I agree with geoff that clichy should have a go at left midfield,he is far more potent attacking, and could be another flamini, defensively he is getting caught out too often for my liking, but that is also due to lack of cover.

what really annoys me is that simpson isn’t given a chance,he is direct always looking to score and has a reasonable work rate, and offers as much as nic,at least for the moment, but no he is being loaned out to the baggies, that wont do much for his game.

diaby is much better attacking than being defensive,i like him, though he had an awful game on sunday, but he needs a regular spot in the middle, instead of playing him everywhere except his true position.

  23. avenell

Pedro… I said that the other day, 8 league goals from six misfielders all season.. and we are half way through it.

Sir Bobby got 14 league goals 3 years on the trot on his own..

  24. faker

    kelsey

clichy is great at bombing forward but he always looks less comfortable in the final 1/3. i think diaby will be better more attacking as well. he was epicly poor sunday…

  25. London

I thought Diaby did quite well on Sunday..ok, it took him a few minutes to get up to speed with game and a few passes went astray but after the Adebayor’s departure I thought he played his part in securing the draw as determinedly as the rest of the team. So I have been a bit surprised to read that so many people really didn’t rate his performance and I have been trying to work out why? The only answer I can come up with is that I saw the role he was meant to be playing differently than others.

The fact that we were down to ten men obviously enabled Liverpool to close down much quicker to such a point that there were sometimes three bin dippers on one of our heroes; the passing game was not going to work as usual so the only way to create space was for Diaby to try and tackle his way past three of them and against all the odds there were occasions when he was able to do that and the result was that we were able to mount an attack. Unfortunately there were times when it failed miserably and he lost possession, but it was his job to try, which I thought he did admirably.

  26. Goonerman

Absolute laugh written by a Spud:

    Humble beginnings.

At the turn of the 20th century “Sir” Henry Norris started off as a London Property Developer and Chairman of Fulham FC, at this time the name “Arsenal” belonged as part of a small first division club south of the river called Woolwich Arsenal. Woolwich Arsenal were struggling on the pitch and Norris, noting that Fulham were hardly going to achieve global dominance, began the first of his machinations. Spotting his opportunity he took over Woolwich Arsenal in 1910 and planned to merge them with Fulham. It is unclear whether we were one of them, but it is reported that the other London clubs got together to prevent the monstrosity of having an Arsenal-Fulham axis, possibly on the doorstep of Stamford Bridge. Norris was forced to choose and Fulham weren’t an option.

And you thought MK Dons and franchise clubs were a new concept?

Playing their home games at their “Manor ground” Norris’ Woolwich Arsenal began their pursuit of success in remarkable fashion managing to be relegated on the strength of winning only once and according to one Arsenal website “managing the unenviable feat of. the smallest number of points achieved in a season”. And they tell you Arsenal have never been relegated.

With the club on the verge of bankruptcy, Norris had to act and decided to move Woolwich Arsenal from their Plumstead home and form a new club in a new area. Never mind the wishes of the Woolwich Arsenal supporters, Norris demanded that a new club be formed in a populated area with good transport links. Despite the objections of Spurs and Clapton Orient, a site was obtained from Norris contacts in the Church of England. It was the end of Woolwich Arsenal, The Manor ground and the beginning of the contemptuous Arsenal FC, Highbury.

A stain on the history of English Football: Introducing Arsenal, Man Utd and Liverpool.

Despite lavish spending, Arsenal were a second division club struggling to gain promotion even with the help of the equivalent of a Roman Abramovich style (though far less reputable and without a shred of integrity) owner.

However, that wasn’t to trouble Norris: the idea of earning victory through unfair play is a concept with which Arsenal have hardly been unfamiliar. Finishing 5th in Division 2 in 1915 (before the outbreak of WW1 interrupted proceeding) Arsenal should have stayed down according the rules. However they didn’t.

Upon resumption of the league in 1919, The Football league decided to expand the league by two places from 20 to 22 clubs and invitations were taken by the league president John McKenna for the first division places of Chelsea and Spurs.

This was a quite extraordinary state of affairs, but we were allowed to stay for equally astonishing reasons. It turned out that our relegation had occurred on the strength of Manchester United and Liverpool fixing a game between themselves, in order that we went down and they stayed up. The Football league, probably giving in to conscience, allowed us to stay up on account of this. This disgraceful conduct saw both clubs fined with players also suspended. Later, the Football league repaid us less conscientiously, by refusing us a rightful place in the first European Cup as English Champions in 1955.

The remaining unjustly awarded place should by right have gone to Barnsley and Wolves, who had finished in 3rd and 4th place in Division 2 behind the two promoted sides Preston and Derby. Mysteriously though, the remaining promotion spot was decided via election. Sir Henry Norris, spotted his opportunity, and according to Arsenal’s history used “influence and close relationship with the league chairman” to have Arsenal promoted. Upon later investigation, Four Four Two magazine and several independent football websites have reported that bribery and corruption were used by Norris to achieve this inglorious promotion for Arsenal. Tottenham were relegated to accommodate them. Rumour has it that Tottenham, however, have always forgiven Arsenal for this and relations between the two North London clubs have always been cordial.

Underhand tactics and a distasteful ending

Not content with having obtained an undeserved and unearned place in the top division of English Football, Norris’ Arsenal seemed to continue their aversion to playing by the book. Allegedly, Leslie Knighton the Arsenal manager (and latterly, to our shame, our manager) in 1924 admitted to giving the Arsenal player performance enhancing drugs in their FA Cup run. This rumour has now been confirmed by World Soccer’s resident Gooner Brian Glanville.

By 1929, The Football Association had had enough. The FA investigated Norris, this time on suspicion of making illegal payments to players. In 1929 Norris was banned for life. A year after he was banned, Arsenal won the FA Cup for the first time and the Championship a year later.

But a Gooner will tell you that was a long time ago.

Well isn’t that history? Besides Arsenal supporters seem to be extremely selective in deciding how far back to go in our history. According to them our history started in 1980′s yet their own goes back as far it suits them to remember. This account is to help you fill in the gaps, over which Arsenal fans skip conveniently or just don’t know. These incidents were a disgrace to English football only, obviously, superseded by the likes of the tragedies at Hillsborough and Heysel. Their stench inspired the North London club’s rivalry.

So let’s not take any lessons on civilised behaviour or history from Gooners. We may not be as old as you, we may not have won as much, but at least we weren’t bought up by a crook who wanted to close us down, shift us away from our roots, and then bribe his way into the elite. That’s your history. Not sure you should be so proud of it.

  27. treze13

Merry Christmas eve everyone, firstly :( no cesc, we’re up a creek. secondly LOL at pennant and finally PLEASE PLASE BUY SOMEONE WENGER YOU OLD FART!!!!!

    ok i’m done

  28. Paulinho

I think Arshavin is a decent player but he’s bit of a an awkward fit for this Arsenal side. I don’t think he can play on the left of a 4-4-2, he’s just doesn’t have the ability to drop back, defend with the full back, retain the ball under intense pressure, have the stamina to get up and down. He lacks in so many areas and would be a liabillity in my opinion. He’s the complete opposite of Hleb, and I think we need someone more like that whose natural inclination is to drop deep and try and knit play together and join the midfield and attack. Nasri looks more that sort of player than Arshavin.

Arshavin could play wide forward in 4-3-3 but his goal record isn’t that great so I’m wondering how good he really is? I’ve seen him look as smooth as silk at times but a bit brainless the next.

The more i think about it, the more certain I am Wenger doesn’t buy him. If we did buy him I would be happy though. He’s better than nothing.

  29. Pedro

London, if Diaby can learn to pass a bit quicker… he could definitely do a job. I said a few months ago, the only way he’ll get a go in the middle is if Cesc gets injured.

This is his big big chance! He is soooo good on the ball, it would be a shame if he blew it…

    Gunner8, what happened?

    afternoon faker and treze!

  30. samui gooner

what about jimmy bullard from fulham can play european cup works hard ,consistent, great free kicks, distrbution good already playing premiership not to exspensive on the fringe of the england squad, in short a ideal replacement for cesc

  31. RasDef

Seems like everybody is astray today, cesc’s injury got us all blurry. Does anyone know what the hell is really going on!!!

  32. raif

Diaby Holds onto the Ball for AGES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by the time he should make a pass all the options have gone twice over. and thats not good for Fast counter attacking football of witch we so used to see on a week by week basis.

  33. Stu

    Whats new post?!?!?

    Geoff,

I know there is a poor squad to pick from but surely instead of Clichy ahead of Gibbs wouldnt it be better the other way around.

  34. Wardo

samui gooner……..not a bad shout Jimmy Bullard. English mentality plus, good in the epl…..its players like Bullard that move to a big club before fans start taking them seriously. His free kicks are good also………..if it was a £3-4mil purchase – I’d say get him.

Anyway…..hope everyone has a great xmas.

  35. Sion De Freitas

    Hey all!

Fabregas’ injury is very bad news, but could be the jolt Arsene needs to finally add to the squad. He is not playing the youngsters, he is bafflingly sticking with sub-par reserves. Denilson has been ok, and Diaby is playing out of position, but its not good enough, they need to up their performances.

Arshavin would be a good signing, my friend thinks hes incredible, i think he has his flaws, but he would be a good addition to us.

Still think Wilshere should be playing ;) . We all know……..

  36. Eddy

Response to the 120 year old man(Spurs supporter) who has harboured a grudge against Arsenal .F.C and our”humble beginnings”…you seem to assume that our memories only allow us to remember Arsenal post 1980 however I was born in 1967 and remember very well(although I was only 4)Kennedy heading home a smashing header at your ground to earn us the League Championship and double. We later went on to repeat this feat of winning the League on your ground again in 2004(I believe you have only won the League once in your entire history). As far as our clubs history is concerned I have heard about the somewhat dubious circumstances that we found ourselves in the first division but as you can imagine our now great club isn’t too keen to advertise these facts.I do know that Herbert Chapman went onto win the League 3 times in a row in the 30′s and given Spurs’ lack of League titles Iam not about to take a history lessen from a man who supports a club that calls it’s “glory years”1 double and 2 lesser European Trophies, for God’s sake Arsene won the Double in his first year in charge,so can we call these our “Glory Years”.

  37. kelsey

    London,

apparently the coating used on nic’s pink boots is toxic, and his feet have doubled in size to go with his head, and unfortunately it is incurable.that’s why wenger wants rid,and the freezing climate is moscow might resurrect his career.

  38. A

clichy left mid?! he’s the one person who could never play anywhere apart from defence, his passing ability is conference standard!! song was our second best player against liverpool and will start alongside denilson, a start he earned with his recent performances. We’ll play song and denilson centre mid most of the time cesc is out i’d imagine. We’ll never be able to replace him with a signing, so will have to try and play a more solid system with both denilson and song sitting deeper than we’re used to, and letting the attacking players do the creative and goalscoring work.

Diaby hasn’t come on in the last 2 years and i’m starting to wonder whether he’ll ever make it. He could never ever play centre mid in a 4-4-2, so has to either play out wide or we have to change the formation especially for him, which his abilities don’t justify. Whilst other players have the intelligence to adapt to moving out wide and being playmaker types, when they arrived at the club being central players, like pires, freddie, rosicky, hleb, nasri, diaby is so incredibly thick he’ll never be able to adapt to that roll, and never be able to develop enough tactical awareness to play centrally in 4-4-2.

  39. A

pedro bendtner was injured a week or so ago, that’s why he wasn’t in the liverpool squad. It was said to be just minor though, so surely he’s back for villa?

The team for villa will be usual back 5 (with kolo still injured i assume?), denilson and song centrally, nasri and eboue on the flanks, and diaby behind vp, or maybe bendtner in rather than diaby, but i’d imagine diaby more likely especially with the injury concerns with bendtner

  40. A

it varies stu, sometimes surgery is needed, sometimes it isn’t. Sometimes they decide surgery isn’t needed, then months later they find out it is, worst case scenario for cesc, that would be horrific!

  41. Stu

I know that the older you get the less special Christmas becomes and it has generally followed that trend in my relatively short life but Christmas is becoming very much a cunt!! This si becoming ridiculas. Two years ago my lifelong friend, my dog of about 14years dies the saturday before Xmas. And if that wasnt enough to sour my taste for the festive season, i found out yesterday that my friend is in hospital with pneumonia and might be there for tomorrow. How shit is that like!

  42. SIMON MCAHON

Merry christmas to all Gooners everywhere, EXCEPT YOU SHANDY DRINKING AKB’S WHO NEVER KNEW ABOUT ARSENAL PRE WENGER .
My NEW YEARS WISH IS FOR THE TRUTH ,
WENGER TO Either PUT UP OR GO!!!!!!!!!!
NO TROPHIES FOR ME MEANS NO JOB THE FOLLOWING YEAR,
    THIS EXPERIMENT HAS FAILED ,
if the kids are that good then why hasnt he played ,LJ,RAMSEY AND VELA , any body wish to tell me that song, eboue and denilson are better .

  43. JonJon

    Stu….

i understand your pain brother, i burried my grandad 10 years ago today, xmas is a shitty time, but at least theres a game on boxing day and a crateload of booze to get through, life goes on my friend.

  44. timao

    A WENGER: How much?
    A ARSHAVIN: £30m
AW: No, 30 too beaucoup. How ’bout £15m?
AA: £30m! Me sooo. Horny! Me love you long time.
AW: What’ll you do for £30m?
    AA: ANY-TING YOU WAN’!

  45. leon

    i would play

    sanga dj gallas clichy
    eboueo diaby song nasri
    vela rvp
its gae arsenal can devenatly win ,i feel villa are very good but beatable, but wengers has no choice but buy now and it will probebly 2’3 players at the most

  46. London

    Timao

Yep, I gotta agree with you there: the Arshavin thing has all the class of a cheap Russian whore trying to over charge for her services.

  47. patthegooner

I think Arshavin is all Agent talk, remember he did this all summer.

I would love him at the right price though.

  48. Rtist

Brilliant to read that just days before the match with A. Villa, Mr. Wenger has made a statement that A. Villa just aren’t good enough to win the League..yet apparently, Arsenal is even without Cesc. Should keep his fuckin arrogant mouth shut…the match is gonna be tough as it is for us…don’t need to throw gasoline on the fuckin fire, Arsene..

  49. JonJon

    Its mind games Rtist,

wengers got to say them things to give his players confidence going into the game.

hes not exactley going to come out and say villa are better than us and we will lose,is he???

  50. patthegooner

For once I will stick up for him here Rtist.

At first i thought similar to you, but having read the entire interview I can see that he is just answering the question, and said although they are mathematically in it, he felt other teams are better equiped.

He did also say that Villa were a threat to 4th place

  51. SIMON MCAHON

OK as its Christmas i thought i would write a very short panto,
    Arsladin
One day a small boy named Pat Found a lamp when he was picking up cones on a field,
Pat was very happy he picked it up and ran home to tell his mummy,
Pats Mum, Wenger Twancky Said “HEY PAT LET ME HAVE A LOOK” and go wash your hands and sit down with the rest of the kids,.”
Wenger Twancky then rubbed ,and rubbed the lamp, and nothing happened , he then took it back to The Cave where he asked the King of the Thieves ,Peter the not so Great if he was rubbing the lamp the right way .
Peter then said “Wenger Twancky you rub the Lamp the best way it possibly can be rubbed by anyone in the world

“Nobody can rubb it better ” , for 10 years he rubbed and rubbed then one day , MAGICALLY an Orange genie called Dienei Appeared, Dienie said ”
Wenger Twancky you have a warchest of wishes at your disposal take this warchest of money and wishes and spend, spend, spend, For it is written that if you dont the kids will struggle to work all day and the adults will always beat them.”
Wenger Twancky Refused to head the advice from Dienie ,
Dienie then said , ” Please Wenger Twancky, ask for any wish i can give you
Villa, Inler, Alsonso, Ribery , Green, Cana, Toure, Given, To help you wiythe Children”
But Wenger Twancky refused and Said” I believe in these Children ” He then Ordered Deinie Into the lamp and Banished him Forever ,
Then Peter The king Of Thieves , congratulated Wenger Twancky on not using any of Warchest of wishes , and then Said
Wenger Twancky , “I have a plan if we tell all of the Peasants in Arsenaland That we Need more wishes They will have to contribute More and more every year, we shall order Sheriff Fizman to enforce this to all in Arsenal Land , Every year Since The development Of The New Castle Emirates ,Sheriff Fizman would pillage the land for more wishes.
But One day when Wenger Twancky was Talking to all the peasants in Arsenalland they all turned there backs on him and then Pedro Hood And Little Geoff , and his bunch Of Merry Grovers Stormed the Castle Emirates and Took Back all of the land and wishes That Peter The king of thieves ,Sheriff Fizman and Wenger Twancky Had Stolen From Them ,and all the good peasants of arsenalland lived happily ever after..

best wishes to all peasants in Arsenalland….

  52. kelsey

    lads,

i have argued the case that if players dont get on it can have no bearing on a winning side, like cole/sherringham who didn’t even speak to each other off the pitch, but in our case would you agree the bedtner/ade incident at spurs, gallas going public(even if he was right) he is meant to be the mouthpiece of the manager on the field, then rvp who reportedly has issues,is just all too much for wenger to handle now.fergie is older but would he take all this shit.it can’t help if too many of our players have inflated egos.henry was different,he was magic the likes of we had never seen before and most probably never will again, but i am sure all i have said and giving cesc the captaincy at 21 just doesnt gell with me.in truth i dont think at the momen anyone is captain material to do a captains job and motivate the others.

  53. patthegooner

Egos are fine as long as you have the world class skill to pull it off.

You are right Kelsey we have too many inflated egos, and unfortunately they dont have the World Class Skill to pull it off. Thats what happens when you give average young players pop star wages.

I understand the “mind games”,etc..even the entirety of the article…just seems that A. Villa is hungry (hungrier than us it seems..at the moment) and such statements, especially playing AT Villa provides additional venom..just wish sometimes that Wenger would just let the players do the talking on the pitch..leave the bullshit to the bullshit artists..the media.

    from the daily mirror

Arsene Wenger won’t be tucking into turkey and all the trimmings for Christmas lunch – he’s banned them from his house.

The Arsenal boss is being a team player and abstaining in sympathy with his players who face Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

He says: “Players aren’t allowed turkey and a drink so a manager has to live like a player, so no turkey for me!”

it must be xmas to publish that :)

  56. JonJon

thats a risk he has to take though raif my good friend, if he says things like we are rubbish and we are going to struggle, people will say hes losing it, when he says we arent rubbish and we will be ok, people say hes losing it, the man cant win no matter what he says,

although he has put himself in that position by not strengthening the side.

  57. JonJon

totally agree with you there Rtist

ive said the same thing on many occasions that villa seem hungrier than us this season,

im as frustrated as you are with alot of wengers comments but ive got used to them now, i know when wenger says things like that he really means

i should of spent some money in summer, this team is fucked and im shit scared but im not going to tell you all the truth.

  58. Rtist

    ..too true…
think the match is gonna be gritty..all eyes on the ref, A. Villa will put in the nasty tackles..just to see if they have the green light from the ref..yellow to Van Persie,etc..
    1-0 to the Arsenal..

  59. kelsey

wenger is no different to any other manager when interviewed.

last week blackburn’s chairman said he was fully backing ince, and fired him the next day

  60. JonJon

i think we’ll defy the odds against villa,

everyone expects us to lose, we play better as the underdogs, manutd chelsea pool?

we should be gritty against them, we should try and damage a few of their players, villa are yet to have long term injuries to key players, theyve practically had the same 11 all season, they’ll fall away as soon as the injuries kick in, we saw how badly their squad players were against hamburg.

a few injuries and they are fooked,

Member if the loyal herd then..I get it…I am still learning the nuances of the English Press and the rather layered responses by those within the sport of football..

  62. Stu

Inler has again been linked with us and i am warming to him. Veloso has apparently agreed to join Fiorentina so thats another player who joins the “what if” list. We wont buy a keeper, Phil might come back and Arshavin is a possibility is his price is lowered so….

    Fabianski
    Sagna – JD – Senderos(c) – Clichy
    Inler – Denilson
    RvP – Nasri – Arshavin
    Ade.

Not a bad team and Cesc can come in for one of the central players whenever. And no im not craz, i realise that Senderos has the captaincy but who else out of those players coould do it? Isnt phil the swiss captain or vice captain? Bring back Counter-Attacking!!

  63. JonJon

What do you know about this Gazidis bloke then Rtist??

Is he quite well known over there??

His CV suggests hes quite a genius.

  64. Stu

Haha anyone ever watch Im on Setanta sports with the Jose and Sven muppets?

Sven calls Beckham for who wants to be a millionaire.

Sven: David how is Los Angeles?
DB : No Sven, im in LA.

Fiction or not, i can imagine Beckham being that thick.

  65. patthegooner

Stu, I would take Inler and Arshavin in Jan right now.

Midfield of (Whilst Cesc is out)

    Arshavin, Ramsey, Inler, Nasri

    When the boys are back

    Arshavin/Theo, Cesc, Inler, Rosicky/Nasri

  66. patthegooner

Whatever happens I just pray that this time next month we are not playing a Midfield that includes 3 of

    Denilson, Diaby, Song and Eboue.

Only one of those four should be in our midfield at any one time.

  67. Rtist

Gazidis is very highly respected…had no business wasting his talent/brain on U.S. “soccer”…strong personality..loves the football..Americans simply cannot relate to the passion..but a great gain for The Arsenal. Let’s see if he can deal with the Wenger..think he can and will. This is a huge opportunity for him..and he knows it..

And yes, Beckham (god love him) is a bit of a bonehead..but the Americans love a “star”..no matter the profession..

Hello Grovers – I have snuck on to say

    MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL,

Have a wonderful day, be safe, and stay nice ;)

thanks Geoff, Pedro for Le Grove – and thanks to all you Grovers who are just the Mutts Nutts – and you all know who you are ;)

  69. Rtist

..Remember when Diaby was first in the team…he was a straight stud.. guess that injury still haunts him..remember that match when his ankle was broken..fuckin hideous..his reaction was fire…but it seems his flame burns not at all these days..

  70. Rtist

..one other thing..Vela is a fuckin hero here…he is the real deal…every Latino I talk to (since they love proper football) cannot figure out why The Arsenal won’t play him..I tell them the usual shit: too physical, too young, not ready, etc…. their reaction? Fuck those fuckin Ingla Terra pussys..they never seen what a tough Mexican kid can do….!!..I laugh…(just reporting, by the way..)
But I gotta tell you, the boy is cut from different cloth than the usual French lads we sign..just hope he gets the opportunity to show it…the Mexican league is pretty good, but the National Team (Vela is a starting XI) is fucking outrageously talented and as proud and as hard as nails…LET HIM PLAY, WENGER.!!

  71. Rtist

..The cultural divide is serious, I’m afraid…Vela is polite, strong family, even humble (god forbid,eh?)..seems you have to be an arrogant prick to get a match these days..

anyway, gotta go..to the authors/editors of this blog: excellent writing and always a good read… to all of those who post: Happy New Year and best wishes for 2009..
    later…
