Transfer Special: 10 players that could make a difference.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

‘No, I have not found anyone special yet and I have not seen anyone special yet’

Now Arsene, we’ve heard that little pearler before, and instead of arguing it… most of us just accept it as gospel.

My brother used to do a similar thing when trying to find a job way back when…

‘You found a job John?’

‘No Mum, there aren’t any about…’

Football over the park on weekdays and free board had nothing to do with the lack of job opportunities…!

I feel the Arsenal recruitment situation is similar. Wenger tells us he is looking for players, because it is what we want to hear… if he doesn’t sign anyone he can tell us he tried but there wasn’t anyone special enough. How laughable is that? That is like telling your partner you didn’t get them a Christmas present because you couldn’t find a gift special enough!

Well my friends, I can take this poppycock no longer!

I’ve decided to take on the might of Arsenal’s 400 strong scouting network using only my laptop (standard issue) and googles very own search engine…

Task: Find players that could make a difference to the current setup.

Limitations: They must be attainable.

I now bring you the results of my 2 hour and 14 minute study:

One to watch, Santacroce

One to watch, Santacroce

Fabiano Santacroce: Never heard of him? Well… you never seem to with Italian players until they are lining up in a feared defence. This guys name has been doing to rounds on the Italian forums for a while now… he is of Brazilian heritage, 22 years old and he is playing for Napoli. Some sites have described him as a monster, others a beast… those are terms I like to hear when talking about a defender. He is on the radar of all the big Italian clubs… so why not nip in their and sign him from under their noses?

Available?

Available?

Brede Hangeland: Fulham’s big centre back has been attracting interest from some of Europe’s elite clubs this season. At 27 he is the right age to make a winning career move. He ain’t winning awards for his beautiful passing moves, but he’ll put his head on anything and he knows how to defend a set piece. Brede was an inspired signing by Roy Hodgson back in January and he helped keep Fulham up… he is the Norway team captain and he scored against us earlier in the year. I think he could solidify our defence in January and lessen the impact of Gallas leaving… he could even compliment Gallas if he decided to stay… I doubt the money asked for him would be out of our range and he isn’t cup tied.

A 6ft 5 defender in our ranks for a relative pittance… we can but dream!

Xavi

Xavi

Xavi: Tough tackling Barca allround super midfielder Xavi is currently stalling on a new deal with Barca (I haven’t read anything to the contrary). At 28 he feels he is not being treated with enough respect by the Barca hierarchy and has threatened to leave if his demands are not met. His contract expires in 2010 and if this issue lingers any longer… Barca maybe forced into a quick fire sale. The signing of a player like Xavi would lift the fans and the players… he could really help push Arsenal onto another level… at his age, surely its the perfect time to have a crack at a foreign league?

So good he's still on a free!

So good he's still on a free!

Stephen Appiah: The guy just can’t seem to get a deal… but as the captain of Ghana, there must be some quality there… He is 28 years old and a bit of a journey man, but he knows his position well and he is pretty athletic. Surely he can’t be worse than Song?

Diarra

Diarra

Diarra: No, not dolphin head… I am talking about the Beast of Mali… Mahamadou Diarra. He has lost his place this season to young upstart Gago. This has pretty much left him surplus to requirements and with Ramos looking to sign his Pompey namesake… could it be a good time to make an enquiry? You don’t suddenly become a bad £26million player do you (Veron excluded)? The guy is 27, 6ft tall and a winner… he is also injured at the moment… but that would only make him more appealing, right Arsene?

Forgotten man?

Forgotten man?

Yoann Gourcuff: Ok, this guy tore Chelsea a new arsene hole a few weeks ago and is currently on the books with Milan. I don’t think Milan will want to keep him and I am not sure he has the ability to break into their team with the current talent they boast. He is a 6ft 1 attacking midfielder who can play out wide on the left or down the middle… he can shoot with both feet, and boy does he have a shot! He has been attracting the interest of Bayern… he will decide his future in May and if rumours are to be believed, we’ve always shown an interest in the man they call, ‘Petit Zizou’. Hey… who was the last 20 something failure we picked up from Milan on the cheap…?

Podolski

Podolski

Lukas Podolski: The stocky, powerful Bayern Munich winger is available for about £10million this winter. He is a proven goal scorer and we’ve apparently been in for him before plus… he will be hungry to prove to Bayern that they were wrong to let him go. A German with a point to prove… I like the sound of that!

Owen at any point in the last 5 years

Owen at any point in the last 5 years

Owen: Once, he was the most feared striker in Europe. His pace and eye for goal marked him out for stardom from an early age. Owen has slightly tarnished his reputation by moving to a second rate club but one thing is for sure… his finishing is still there and he is a big name. Would Wenger take a risk on Owen if there was no fee involved… well, he took a risk on Franny Jeffers for £10million and he was a crock…

A handsome devil

A handsome devil

Ivica Olic: This guy was officially the fastest player at the Euro’s this summer. He can play up front or out wide on the left. He is 27 years old and he is available on a free transfer this summer. His goal record is pretty impressive as well, he has bagged 25 goals in 66 games for Hamburg. He is fast, skillful and very aggressive. I think he has many of the credentials Arsene looks for in a player. Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Juve are all rumoured to be interested in his signature this summer.

… and finally…

Funny, yet talented

Funny, yet talented

Antonio Cassano: The guy has had his ups and downs with his weight and discipline, but one thing that can’t be denied is his talent. Wenger is an expert at dealing with naughty footballers and if there was one footballer on the planet worth taming (Bar Adriano) it is this guy. Ok, so I don’t really believe much of what I just wrote in that last paragraph, I just wanted you to read this story here.

“Sex plus food: a perfect night”

What a line.

So, there is the list my nights work produced… a list of players that are available, that possess enough quality to play for Arsenal and that are all pretty much within our price range. If I can do that in a couple of hours… surely the 400 scouts on Arsenal’s books can come up with 2 players worth purchasing or that at least merit the tag, ‘special’.

So, what do you think? Who are your suggestions? Let us know in the comments section!

Tomorrow, Geoff will be delivering the match preview!

Merry Saturday Grovers!

P.S. I have 2 club level tickets available for tomorrows Liverpool game… drop me a mail if you are interested in the pair (£210).

i was down at highbury when the stadium was empty an millawall were dumping us out the f.a cup an if the emirates is oneday empty an millwall are dumpin us out the f.a cup il still be there,i know a bunch of new fans follow arsenal but they can fuck off

  2. bergkamp

what can you expect in london, you cant expect people with jobs to act like scouse fanatics, londoners follow fashion, arsenal are maybe going out of fashion

  3. ethangunner

That’s my very point ‘arsenal are maybe going out of fashion’
and too be in fashion you need to win things , the board cannot rely on
pumping the fans for cash whilst watching very average fucking football !
    and i ain’t a drama queen , i can just see a little ahead , im ahead of the curve ! :)
and wished the club would take positive action to steer us back on course !

It doesnt take a rocket scientist to predict with the economy and mix of bad football that the club is heading on a downward spiral .. throw in the chance we might not have C.L football next season , the real estate market dropping
and the writing’s is on the wall ….
like certain board members have already stated in a round about way , we are NOT reliant on the C.L income ! hmmmm .. what the fuck does that mean ?

is that how confident you are ? does that state we are buying no one of any worth again this transfer window ?

when you think about it the wage bill cant get much higher so if we are holding on for a 100 000 a week wage earning super star to make a difference we can forget it ..

we will need to sell 1st .. im sure of that , and wenger will get rid of 2 or 3 to buy 1 !

like this squad doesnt lack personnel already ..
no matter which way we look at it the hole is far deeper than you think !
we can only hope for a buy out or stan to get the check book out !

because ive given up waiting for the arsenal one too open !

  4. bergkamp

the only thing that interests me is the next game,i dont care about boardrooms or names on the teamsheet,i dont care how many tickets they dont sell, were just a couple players short (first tea, first choice) players short of being a pretty good team again, other than that i aint got anything serious to say,i dont see this crisis

  5. bergkamp

if someone said to me 15 years ago that we’d have been in 5th position in 2008 BUT we would have won 3 league titles a few f.a cups an been in a champions league final and built a 60thousand stadium the only bit i would have believed would have believed would have been the 5th position bit, so dont think im not ambitious, but this is a minor slump right about now, speak to me about it again in 2 years if theres no improvement

  6. ethangunner

id prefer to be known as the KING OF DRAMA , as im pretty fashionable myself ..
and if i just agreed with you and said bergkamp your a legend i believe you .. i want a photo of you on my wall ! my opinion is fused with yours, LIFE WOULD BE FUCKIN BORING !

    :)

I watch this team pretty closely , i can tell they aint got the mustard !
and with all this internal board room musical chairs , you have to wonder
if this isnt a direct result of performances on the pitch ..
maybe they have noticed the gate receipt figures and restaurant turn over figures also ?

they maybe feel the need to have board members sit on the board who can offer solutions instead of blankly stare at the problems that face them .. who knows ..

professionals who can think outside the box .. what ever the case is they are cold and calculated and would sack anyone who turns on them or doesnt adhere to there master plan ..

i cant understand why being greedy cunts makes them worthy of most fans !
they havent got the cash to splash yet people love them for it !

fuck me ! they should sack themselves !

say what you want about keane but at least he had the balls to get out because he felt he was ruining the club !

shame our board have sold there asses to the devil and dont have such morals !
you can act like scrooge cunts for 3-4 years and fuck the club up and the fans are thanking them for it !

  7. bergkamp

ethan, the key is dont let it get to you, arsenal are a bunch of bastards, they never do the obvious, but stressing about arsenal is not the way forward, they will get it right ,iv seen simular stuff before then out of the blue they go into action, let january pass before we get too mental, i didnt think we would sign anyone in the summer but i think january is the time, wenger has learnt what he needed to learn from his squad so far, january he wont let u down, unless you wnat to spend 100mill, maybe 20

  8. bergkamp

i think the players who should have been playin for us this season arent because the board were split over freein up funds durin the summer ethan, thats my opinion,i think there were board members who questioned buyin a midfielder wehn he had song diaby & denilson on the books! thats why some of the musical chairs is going on

  9. bergkamp

the arsenal board became a place with a fashionably prestigous do fuck all but make money attitude, thats why heads should roll, they think wenger can keep pullin golden bargains out his ass, what they dont realise is because of wenger everytop club in the world is scouting on our level now,its the board that need to move with the times

  10. bergkamp

the thing about the board is they have split loyaltys, loyal to their own bank accounts and love for the club, their shares dont rise in value if they are spending money and it isnt winning them the league,i think they have chosen one over the other as a gamble, thats why this new guy will be good because it aint his money

  11. bergkamp

frizman is a decent fella by all accounts he was one of deins better friends on the board,i think he is interested in on the pitch growth and lady nina was more interested in her son inheriting shares worth money

  12. ethangunner

    bergkamp ,

its ok looking back from 15 years ago !
its like saying thank god humans didnt get extinct from the KTL strike and the dinosaurs did !
who cares about 15 years ago , you dont even care whats going on in the board room last week ,
the proverbial arsenal think tank ( if you can call it that )

but i agree , ive always said focus on the next fixture and play your best 11 !
its served aston villa well . as well as most of the top 4 !
we are the only knobs who rest players and throw games !

we need far more than 2 players !
we probably have 1 or 2 maybe even upto 4 players wanting to leave

GALLAS – RVP – maybe cesc , even theo ..
and thats not without the dead wood of diaby – eboue-song and senderos ..

our goal keeper is back to crap after the jens threat has left the building .
we seriously lack a DM and a replacement winger or 2… (eboue as backup isnt good enough )
and dont even get me started on our sub standard non penetrating off side bearing strikers …
who have failed to do the business for all of 2008 !

and most want a CD ! , i actually think that area is covered by fish face , gallas ,toure, johan and now senderos with song as backup and sagna also !

but as we are an attacking team , its only natural we need a CD isnt it :)

  13. bergkamp

rvp can go,vela and theo need a chance to play uptop, gallas well he can go too, if players want to leave in january well we will put a price tag on them, 2 players is what we need and if gallas an van leave we can make it 3 players ,its not a huge loss

  14. bergkamp

the offside all too often striker is the best striker at the club, its rvp who misses all the chances week in week out

  15. bergkamp

i think we need a dm and a wide man, thats it,if gallas leaves we can add a cd,u can never have enough centre halfs especially if they are pretty good (better than what you have got)

  16. bergkamp

the thing is arsene should just give his list to the board and see what happens,he shouldnt be puttin prices on these players or nothing, the club should go and do some work for once and come back with a result for arsene instead of fuckin around over and over and tryin to undercut

  17. bergkamp

i think arsene has been conned a bit by them arsenal doctors with their rossicky assesments,he should refuse to pay for all the unsuccesful surgerys because after the 5th one it got silly

  18. ethangunner

but stressing about arsenal is not the way forward, they will get it right ,iv seen similar stuff before then out of the blue they go into action, let january pass before we get too mental,

the games a changing bergy !
investors popping out of the floor boards , and like you said wenger style recruitment from all other managers in the EPL copy catting wengers shrew business sense for a good player in obscurity ..

with this amount of changing variables it will be hard to gauge if AFC can bounce back ..
and i fear its a time line or a closing window we are chasing , just imagine when man shitty click as a team , im sure new management in the form of frankie or some other mourinho style manager will take over sooner rather than later , and once that click takes place or even spurs for that matter , villa … its no longer a 4 horse race ..

our team changes every year now so it hard to get consistency .. wenger constantly making them play out of position doesn’t help either .. these other teams have got the personnel and play there best 11 stars every week .. more constantly than us !

and maybe youth get injured more than experienced players , maybe wengers training is to blame too , refusing to toughen them up , rather keep them quick and fragile .
but what ever the case i think 15 years ago , too today the game is a totally differing kettle of fish ..
you cannot use the same methodology when working out the problem , because all the variables are different , and all include spending money , like the fans do ! and hordes of it !

yet arsenal refuse to buck the trend and we can see the fruits of there labour !

  19. bergkamp

ethan theres two ways to look at it,either wenger or the board, and we know wenger knows how to put a team together, but being able to afford to do it these days is a different matter, thats why he maybe see’s youth as the way forward because he feels he can mould the type of players he wants but cant afford,i mean damn you can keep looking at other teams because im damn sure villa would love to be us,so would spurs an man shitty , in 3 weeks we could well be back 5 points ahead of villa and would that suprise you?

  20. bergkamp

the thing is you say that about players wantin to leave but when they ask for more money we all get on their backs ethan, im sure a few of the players we miss so dearly would have still been there if the club had payed them what other clubs thought they were worth

  21. bergkamp

ethan the thing is arsenal dont force the fans to spend a penny,if the fans stopped spending the money then the club would change its tactics quickly thats one guarantee

  22. JonJon

    hey up bergkamp mate,

been out on a pissup, wide awake though, still want to party but everyones got kids now and have gone to bed

the mrs has fallen out with me cos i said i was only going out for a few and i strolled in at 3am.

the sofa and le grove are my friends tonight.

  23. JonJon

why have milan got beckham on loan?

    hes past it big time.

they must be short of cash and need the attention,

posh must be in heaven in italy, bet she had something to do with it.

  24. bergkamp

jonjon mate it seems like you evening has mirrored mine, except i only went out to drop off a christmas card at 7pm an walked in 10 pints later at 1am a got a right clip around the earhole for not goin down the road to get a christmas tree

  25. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

n another news paper wenger has stated there is absolutely no one he wants that can improve the squad, what a load of bollocks you’re telling me there is no one better then DENILSONG he’s having a laugh

  26. bergkamp

i think january is gonna suprise us all,and the blog headlines will go from being sign someone please to no point signing them now its too late, arshavin would be alrite, but he really should go to islington town hall an change that name

  27. bergkamp

lol boy better know he is takin the piss dont read into it,problem is prices double when arsenal become interested an 10 other clubs come under alert,i dont know any means i got my eye on at least 1 or 10

  28. JonJon

haha thats the other half for you, i wouldnt change her for the world though. shes an arsenal fan so thats all i need in a woman, she knows to shut up when the games on and she fixes me a sandwich and brings me a cold tin,

i can let her get away with the odd tantrum.

    BBK

id be happy with ashravin, but for 20 mil i dont think wenger will do it, we need a CB and a midfielder to. 20mils abit steep for wenger for 1 player.

  29. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

i love reading the amount of bull-shit they come out with just to seel there paper arshavin was at london colney lollllllllllllll

  30. bergkamp

mine dont care for football, but she likes it when arsenal win coz she has this annoyin little mutt that is perfect for kickin in the ass,oh and tins are banned from my house ever since the kid decided to put a redstripe in his lunch box instead of an umbongo

  31. bergkamp

see one minute they are reporting that chelsea have said there will be no activity in the transfer window, and then they are saying they want arshaving and maybe kevin davies

  32. JonJon

wengers probably had his eye on 1-10 for ages but edelman was thick and theres been nobody with the charm since dein, hes probably been banging his head against a wall as much as we have.

  33. bergkamp

the little shyt, the thing about my kid is he has the same dinner ladies at his school now as when i was there,so i bet they was well slaggin me off when he pulled out his redstripe and pack of monster munch

  34. bergkamp

the tevez one is possible but it would be super shocking, manure have tevez rented , but if we signed him and won the league the f.a would probably deduct us 10 points

  35. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

i remember going into school one day with a spliff behind my ear totally forgot it was there lol managed to get away with it tho teachers never clocked PHEWWwwwwww

  36. bergkamp

lol spliff behind the ear,you would be suprised how many people have gone to the wrong place with the spliff behind their ear, ever since i gave up smoking i can smell weed 24hrs a day

  37. JonJon

    bergkamp

you should of made him drink a pack and sent him to school with a hangover.

chelsea want everyone whos a threat, but roman says no more money so that will hurt them,

chelsea remind me of a friend of mine, when we were younger and used to play champ manager 96/97 he’d use the unlimited fund cheat and buy everyone who scored against him.

after the first year he had a squad of about 75 players. ranging from the likes of batistuta and desially to david weir and richard gough

i said at the time one day they’ll be a club that can actually do that. then chelsea come along of all teams. fucking liberty.

  38. ethangunner

    berg ,

i think the pennies dropped just this season for a lot of fans ,there patients has grown thin ! and most are prepared to voice up against the management decisions now ! they need the stats thrown in there face that 5 loses already this season – worst start to the season in wengers reign .. back that up with a certain sector shouting we’ve been in a transition for 3 or 4 years ,won nothing for just as long, i think for most looking at the scenario objectively paying the price tag on this sort of ticket doesn’t represent value anymore, they would rather sit at home and watch the impending loss on TV . or spend money on something that represents value …
i feel ashamed of the price tag attached to our crap performances .. and im sure other feel the same .

At the end of this season you might see a reduction in ticket costings , either that or AFC spends to make the team a competitive one again .. but in all honesty it would be an expensive exercise.

i estimate we need 5 players to be brutally honest … 2 or 3 might secure 4th spot .
but to really take the step between saving our asses and being competitive is about another 60 mill worth of talent .. and another 3 players ..

  39. bergkamp

lol he would probably try drink the pack as well, kids eh, still its school holidays now maybe il be allowed my beer shelf back in the fridge

  40. JonJon

im the same with weed, i used to walk everywhere with one behind my ear,i used to smoke a joint in my bookies i my pub and i even got knicked once a maneged to fire one up in the cell, i can smell one from a mile off now and i could eat one but i know what it does to me so i dont abuse myself anymore.

  41. bergkamp

ethan they keep sayin arsenal are the most expensive ticket but i also think we sell one of the cheapest tickets, the guides only give the average price

  42. bergkamp

im telling you i can smell weed everywhere,i didnt even smoke the sensomelia for a couple years, well not daily, but i havent smoked for 5 months now,im talking cigs and i can smell weed everywhere i go,even if im alone in a small room

  43. bergkamp

roma aint a bad draw,it could be worse, the team i wanted to avoid was bayern, last time we played roma totti got a red card, completely lost his head got sent off for jumping into keown, two yellows in like 5 minutes in the first half

  44. JonJon

    BBK

i think we got a chance. roma are not that difficult to beat and i think we are better as a cup team, when the big games come along we manage to pull it off, its just the consistency we lack cos we dont have a squad full of quality.

in the one off cup games we can beat anyone, and the other english sides have got tough draws, it could be a godsend really.

  45. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

it really makes me laugh how all these pundits think we have the toughest draw when clearly if you look at it juve, inter and real madrid are all bette then roma

  46. bergkamp

its the high grade, its like a ghost,it follows you, tells you that you owe it another smoke BBK,what you gotta do is just dont give in and hope it goes away, a couple of my pals i dont even go near them no more, they are like dead cells,i think was i like that or was i gonna be like that,i used to have a company car and this thing stank of green bad, i went on holiday and had to give the keys to some geezer who was gonna us it for a week, he probably got high just drivin that car

  47. bergkamp

what the pundits mean is that fifa will fix at least one of these games so at least one italian team WILL go through, and were usually just laughed at after we get robbed so might as well be us

  48. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

lolllll bergkamp me and some of my pals used sit in whoever’s car leave the window up and just hot box the thing till everyone was black up.like you i stay away from it now but as you say it does follow you,i need to stay strong for this one

  49. JonJon

    i been clean about 3yrs

used to buy a Q and id do it in, in a week, used to smoke herb like ciggies but then the mashup yourself skunk came on the scene and it did the damage,

8 years of that shit and i was going round the bend,

i do volenteer work now and try council the kiddies and tell them to stay clear of it but they just dont realise the dangers, it tastes too nice and they get hooked, their bodies are still developing and their brains cant handle it, and the younger they start the more likely they are to go round the bend.

ive got a group of about 25 kids and only 3 had quit, 2 have been sectioned under the mental health act and the rest are hard fucking work

    peer pressures a bitch.

  50. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

jon,jon at least you got a couple too quit m8 that is a start, and yes peer pressure is a bitch, where do you do your volentary wrk??

  51. bergkamp

villa will be mid table again in a month, thats my opinion, they are just lucky for now, as for the herb i was working and id be on the phone making a deal and taking notes and then when i was done i couldnt read my notes lol or remember the figures discussed an stuff so i had to quit smoking the reefa for good, those were the days though when i got lean with a tens

  52. JonJon

a local youth club in the centre of leeds, a notorious area, very deprived, some of the kids dont even have parents,

very sad, a real eye opener.

  53. bergkamp

roma away i went to turin last time, after the game the coaches do about 80mph up the road to get away from them mad italians

  54. JonJon

villa will fall away, they got a good first team, as soon as they get a couple of injuries and the cup games come along they’ll fall off.

the top 4 wont change this season, a win against liverpool and villa, and a couple of quality signings in jan and we could be right up there.

  55. JonJon

    yep leeds boy.

dont watch leeds, never have, but everyones giving him rave reviews and saying hes the next best thing.

ive seen the highlights on local news and the boy is talented, alot of my mates say hes too good for that division already,

only time will tell but he’ll probably end up a PL player in the next few years,

a friend of mine has close connections with elland road and he said all the big 4 have had scouts there this season to moniter him.

  56. BOY BETTER KNOW SHO!!!!

see now i wish i came from highbury your right on the doorstep and it totally pisses all over that shit hole tottenham

  57. bergkamp

yeah i know,no one in highbury supports arsenal these days, highbury is full of people who would even support spurs in a cup final because its good for london

  58. bergkamp

even the people who run the arsenal chip shop these days dont even know who rocky rocastle is and they have a signed picture of him on there wall, highbury is full of scum

  59. JonJon

i wish i had a pound for everytime someone on here has asked me that. ;)

im a glory hunter from the invincible era. nah jokes.

my grandad was an islington boy, supported the mighty arsenal and moved up here to be with my nan after the war.

my dad up and left when i was a yute and i lived with my grandparents from a young age, pops raised me as his own son and he never had a son so we were close, i didnt really have a choice to be a gooner, wouldnt have it any other way to be honest.

arsenals been in my blood since i was a baby, its support thats been passed on to the next generation, but only missing a generation out if you get me.

and ill pass it on too, just the way it is.

except for when they beat us at highbury, i still cant live it down, its like their most precious moment in the modern era,

    very sad.

i once chinned a kid at school cos he said rocky was shit and we could have him back

it turned into an all day arguement and in the end we took it to the bike sheds and he got it big time ;)

the leeds lads love it when millwall come to town, they spend days on end drawing up battle plans and choke off points outside elland road.

they totally forget about the football and spend the day in the pub after the game talking about the fights instead.

    fucking insane.
