Porto in the Carling Cup tonight. Big game little team.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Ok you could be forgiven thinking we are playing in the Carling cup tonight, Simpson, Merida, Hoyte, Ramsey, Randall, Gibbs and Ramsey all look set to start and the experience of Gallas and Diaby to give the team some bite.

I can’t wait to be honest, I said earlier in the season that the younger kids showed more fight than the older kids and if he plays Eboue the oppressed and Bendtner the big head, he will have two players with a point to prove as well.

I hope they play like they did at Wigan, the cup game not the league one and run at them with no fear. If they do I can see a famous win on it’s way, but this time Niklas you need to take your chances, you won’t get as many as you did at Burnley and I think you are being watched now, on the clock so to speak, so time is not on your side, I’m backing you do prove us all wrong.

I think Wenger needs to have a doctor look over his next signings (If indeed there are any ever again) In the 12 years of Arsene Wenger’s reign I would bet Ethan’s house (again) that we have had more injuries than any team in football history… coincidence???

The other thing that gets me is resting key players; I always thought that top players wanted Champions league football? I thought that’s why they signed for clubs, so I can’t work out why we are resting Ade, why he isn’t gagging for it?

The injury list is impressive, with Nasri, Cesc, Robin, Kolo and Sagna all injured, funny apart from Nasri, they all looked fine to me on Saturday, let’s hope they’re back for the Boro game.

Yesterday we heard of the tragic and untimely death of Stonroy’s sister, Stonroy is a Grover, we were all very sad to hear that, but touched that Arsene wrote to her son and had the team all sign a poster, so Stonroy our thoughts are with you but your team is too. Nice to hear that.

So tonight expectations with a team of kids are low but I am strangely confident, I watched the Chavs scrape through last night, if they can win anyone can.

Remember the motto Concordia la di da di da, translated it means in God we trust, the kids will deliver, tonight is their night, go get ‘em boys – 2 nil the Arsenal.

    laters A

im with you on the transfers ethan

we could easily sell the dead wood and replace them with better players, i can find better players than bendtner on a sunday league pub game the day after a pissup

even if wenger had the money, he likes to balance the books, so if someones going to come in we can expect departures, and depending on who they are, wont be a bad thing

  2. ethangunner

fuck ! it would be total madness if we got a kings ransom for ade now !
i think he proved he had a lucky and fortuitous season last year with so many others being laid off for long periods ( mainly RVP ) …

least i shut the ade lovers down :) its been the only hi-lite of my season :)

dont get me wrong he is ok , he probably would be a good player for west ham or that sort of team , but i think by having ade in the ranks it just shows how desperate we are on strike options with class ..

how wenger cant see it , i dont know its like hiring a butcher to be the new head surgeon at a hospital !

he doesnt fit the team profile .. its just too messy for me seeing him fumble his way around in the final 3rd !
bring back TH14 even thou some think he is bound too a wheel chair or a walking stick !!

  3. JonJon

we wouldnt miss bendtner for a start so hes first one out for me. if we got 5mil we’d be robbing someone

with vela showing more on the pitch and eduardo to come back

the loss of bendtner wouldnt exactly bring me to tears and sleepless nights

  4. JonJon

if we got a 20mi+ offer for ade too id snap that hand off right away

1, i dont think hes as good as what others do

    2, i hate him

so thats my reasons for him fucking off.

i think he’ll fuck off anyway, another team will make a bid and he’ll want another rise to stay, he wont get away with it twice, wenger will say bye bye.

i wouldn’t be too hard on bends just yet , its wengers fault for over playing him !
its funny when you think nik is the same age as theo , yet theo is used sparingly and nik b is over used like a an Amsterdam window whore ..

an interesting fact is theo still has payments and conditions from his transfer still built into his contract , like number of starts etc. im sure wenger still uses him sparingly to avoid such clauses ! and over paying ..
ive said that all along .. i mean you dont see cesc being taken off .. even when he was 18 !

and jack has been with us since a very young age , i think he proved again last night that he should fill one of these gaps , he is an extraordinary player for his years !

  6. JonJon

    ethan

ive already said jack should be given a go on the wing on sat,

nasri and theo are both out and everyone else has had a go and done shit,

giving jack a go has to better than letting eboue and diaby loose, at least jack can actually dribble and shows abit of charachter

thats a good point on theo

as for nikki, i just dont think hes going to get any better.

maybe a couple of seasons of this is exactly what we need..mediocre footy will flush out the thousands of part timers that go to the emirates and give those with more passion for the club but less money a chance to make ashburton a place for opposition to be worried about. There were almost as many united fans as there were gooners when we played them, I for one know several london based united fans who only have arsenal season tickets so as to take their business associates along.

Good points being raised about how the hell we have the third highest wage bill..beggars belief-no wonder most of the lads dont even break a sweat

  8. ArsenalKenya

I TOLD YOU… I WATCHED THE GAME LATE PAST MIDNIGHT AND EVEN THOUGH WILSHERE,GIBBS AND RAMSEY IMPRESSED, Wenger should buy 4 good impact players in january. Bendtner is shit as well as Silvestre who was overwhelmed. Gallas does not care though he is good….

  9. xeeez

AK..Bendtner is a good option coming off the bench IMO!
We need the signings..we need a CM badly. Cesc is being put to waist being played with Song and co.!

  10. kelsey

    morning all,

i have said for weeks there is unrest in our squad, and let’s remember this was not the c.c. team last night, but a bunch of individuals whose whole bodily language was wrong from the kick off.All our fluidity has gone, no sparkle,no will to win.
Some may argue that we had already qualified, but that is surely not the point. Many thousands payed good money to at least expect a performance from the team.
Whoever we draw will be irrelevant,no one will fear playing us,and even if we get through the next round, there are many better teams than us and we can be discounted as contenders. Now after less than half the p.l. season over we have to concentrate to hanging on to 4th.yet only 10 months ago
we were in a much more healthy position and someone is lying. Is there really any money available or is this yet another transitional year.If wenger truely believes this team backed up by kids will win anything,he is truely dissillusioned. If money was availabe, then the board should have demanded that the weaknesses last season should have been strengthened.,then the fault lies with Wenger. We have shown just glimpses of form this season, and the so called beautiful football is hard to reconise.I half expected it,but the demise of this great football club is nearing at least for the immediate future, and the writing has been there for some time.I support my club and always will, but so much of what is happening at this moment could have been dealt with earlier.

  11. ikon

Bendtner is not good enough to do the team’s laundry imo.

Ade at least has had a 30 goal season, Bendtner has shown nothing to mae us believe that he might be actually worth something.

Song was very very good last night. Of course others being very very poor helped.

  12. Big Raddy

    Morning Kelsey.

Sure we have problems, and last nights performance was woeful. But I believe we have a strong (and hopefully about to get stronger) first team.

It seems clear that AW’s youth experiment is not working as he hoped. The step up from the kids teams is proving to much for some of them.

ANd as you say, there is a problem with the attitude of the team. I think they are scared when they receive the ball, and go into rabbit in the headlights mode. For example, I have seen Nik play superbly for Denmark, he really is a class act, but at Arsenal he looks bereft of skill and very ‘heavy’.

  13. ethangunner

    xeeez

yeah sub’d with the 2nd best player on the pitch jack !
he looks too confident for wengers liking ?

why isnt he playing jack and ramsey more ? and persisting with song – eboue- denilson less !

wenger has lost the plot , he cant even see talent when it hits in the face nowadays ..

unless he is adhering to my conspiracy theory of play them more to lift there price for selling !

  14. ethangunner

    BR

id like to side with your hopes of optamism , but the reality is we are bottom of the barrel currently ..

win 1 lose 1 win 1 lose 1 .. consistency of the old arsenal is just a dream now !
it cant be done with these lads .. who knows when and if they will ever come good as a team !

  15. ethangunner

    kelsey

the fact is , and you probably know with the highbury dev. almost finished we will be paying a near maximum loan but cannot complete the sales until mid 09 minimum .

so the loan is at max. repayments and at this time the board will be paying the highest premium they have in 3 years on that loan !.. you are the brokest you will be just prior to your pay day correct ?

So if ever there was a time when arsenal are low on funds it will be for the next 6 months prior to taking 100% from there flats .

sure we will be raking it in after , but for now when we need the money unless they take out some sort of bridging loan i cant see us spending ..

  16. Big Raddy

My optimism runs deep Ethan, but not so deep that I cannot see how far this team is from winning the EPL .

We are in the situation that most Le Grovers predicted at the end of last summer (you included !)

But my concerns are more with the fact that there seems to be a collective panic button in the side, that I haven’t ever seen before in an Arsenal team.

It has grown since the Spurs game – how costly have those 10 minutes proved to be.

As to Nik – he has had good games for us, and his International scoring record shows his potential, but he seems to be going backwards at Arsenal. So what to do? I really hope he gets a loan club in Europe.

  17. kelsey

I didn’t want to pick out individuals but in the first half, almunia was our only good player, eboue’s confidence is gone,i said before the game nic should only be used as a sub and wenger yet again came out with his favorite word BELIEF,which apparently wasn’t there.he can’t motivate the players anymore and we are just going downhill.if we beat boro or not will make no difference.we do need thes 3 called experienced internations, michael p suggested, can you really see us buying them.even one good player wouldn’t make a difference and finally if/when theo.eduardo and sicknote return it will be too late.

  18. Big Raddy

Ethan …. I really do not wanrt to get into another finance discussion, but the Board have stated many times that the Highbury development loans are ring-fenced from the playing side of the Arsenal business.

I cannot accept that both PHW and Fizman would openly state that money is available for AW to spend, if it was not the case. Why should they ? They could just stay quiet.

If we do not get signings in Jan, it will be because very few clubs want to downwardly affect their team by selling their best players mid-season.

  19. London

    Big Raddy

Loaning Nik out to a European club is a good idea….the down side is players don’t usually like coming back…..although that might suit some people.

  20. Big Raddy

    Kelsey,

You rightly point out that we have a crisis of confidence. Good results are the only way to overcome that. So why in hell does AW put out such a poor team – they were doomed before they walked onto the pitch.

  21. London

    Big Raddy

I see the money that is supposed to be avilable in the context of a husband and wife discussing the family finances.

Money is tight at the moment dear but if the kids really need new shoes I am sure we will find the money from some where.

  22. ethangunner

    BR

yes nik is far from the finished article.. i agree BR !

but strikers are a different beast than most .. you can tell if midfielders are useless or defenders like senderos .. but at 19 its pretty tough to think that nik b is at his peak at this age !
he, like goalies need to do an apprenticeship and take there chances when handed too them!
(its wenger fault he is playing this much ! ) wenger should give him a game or 2 every 2 or 3 months too gauge improvement .. it wont happen over night ! not with any of these youngsters .. they haven’t got enough about them ! (other than jack or ramsey)

if nik was 23- 24 and playing like this id agree ! (like ade :) ) sell em !
but at 19 , with the right team and enough encouragement and a good midfield behind him he could just go off 1 day like a cracker ..

IMO its wenger fault for over playing him ! he should be used sparingly and get him keen to show us what he can do !
he , like ade and play crap and get away with it week in week out !
and its not there faults , its wengers !

instill disapline and let the team know anything other than 110% is not getting a game at AFC .

  23. ethangunner

    BR

when have you ever believed anything the board is saying ?
the facts are with only 39 million taken and the interest is 28 mill a year for 2.5 years where else is the money coming from ?

if wengers tightness isnt enough of a clue 4 u i dont know what is !?

  24. Geoff

Morning all, I thought last night was dreadful and none of them should get paid, I think Wenger disrespects the fans, especially those who made the trip.

One again he takes off the best player and leaves the bad ones on.

I agree with you both that Bendtner is a prospect, but why do we always have prospects, he has money to spend, he just chooses not to.

Being a fan is not a lot of fun at the moment and won’t be until he ditches plan children, loan them out and let someone else have the problem.

  25. kelsey

The trouble is we are comparing a great double act of theiry and dennis, which just is not on.nic is not suited to our style of play and ade is just a nuisance with little football skill.Maybe wenger should change the style of play to accomodate our players,we can’t just keep reducing our squad by loaning out players.my guess by the summer eboue, gallas and nic will be gone.

  26. Geoff

They should all go now, Eduardo’s back, bring in a centre back, a combative midfielder and buy David Villa.

Bringing in more players will give us all a lift.

  27. London

    Ethan

Senderos isn’t a good example. At 19 he was being touted as the future Captain he kept Cambell out for ages, I think in fact he kept him when we played Man U in the FA cup final, then came the Euros and Senderos was not only defending well but scoring goals for the Swiss; I still believe that we thought he is our man. people were even using terms like the new Tony Adams…..and then he got injured……he lost an exremely important half a yard of pace and then he played in the Charity shield against the Chavs and most notably Drogba….the rest is history.
