One in, but would you boot the other one out?

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Morning Grovers!

A couple of interesting stories in the press today.

Firstly, let’s tackle the William Gallas story.

I for on have mixed feelings on it because there was some bad…

“When, as captain, some players come up to you and talk to you about a player … complaining about him … and then during the match you speak to this player and the player in question insults us, there comes a time where we can no longer comprehend how this can happen. I am trying to defend myself a bit without giving names. Otherwise I’m taking it all [the blame]. It’s very frustrating. I’m 31, the player is six years younger than me.”

Some obvious…

“I have to win something this year. I have to. Arsenal have to. It’s nearly four years since we won anything and that’s not good.

“Another season without winning anything would be a kind of failure. But for me, the title is not over. It’s true that we are nine points behind Chelsea, but you have to be optimistic. You can’t give up.

and some optimism…

“Four defeats is a lot but it’s a long season. I think it will be very tight this year and we will have to hope that Chelsea draw a few and lose a few. We will have to see if I will stay if we don’t win the title. We don’t know what will happen between here and then.”

When you read the whole interview from start to finish, it doesn’t come across quite as poorly as it does when you focus on the snippets.

You can kind of understand the reasoning behind the interview. Gallas seems to get the blame for everything that goes wrong with the club… he is merely defending himself. If Wenger had purchased like we’d hoped he would in the summer, we wouldn’t be facing these problems right now. Even the great PV04 upped sticks after a couple of seasons of ‘Project Youth’… as did Thierry. All three captains are/were regarded as World Class and all three have had troubles with Wenger’s recruitment policies.

It’s not good to hear your Captain slagging off the players and the club… but at the same time, it’s exactly what the fans have been doing. It’s reassuring in a weird way to know that the players are feeling the same. At least there is a passion to get things right.

When do you stop blaming the Captain’s and start blaming the manager? In my opinion, too much emphasis is placed on the role of a Captain. A great captain does not make average players better. Do you think John Terry would have been in the Champions League final last year had he been playing with Arsenal’s current crop? You are only as good as the players who are around you… bear that in mind before sticking the knife in.

Anyway, lets hope all this malarkey motivates the players to kick on from here… Starting with City tomorrow. That will be a tough game, but I am confident a sterling performance will go some way to kick starting our season for the 4th time this year

In an interesting snippet, Van Buyten has thrown his hat into the ring if Gallas wishes wants to leave. Finally, a decent defender willing to join the team!

In other news, it appears the wait for a new CEO maybe nearing an end. We’ve identified Ivan Gazidis, the deputy commissioner from the MLS as our new target. I have no idea what he is going to do for Arsenal as a club, but something tells me Stan the man has his grubby little hands all over this signing. As far as I can see, he has no experience in European football… but he has ideas… and big ones at that. Read here for further info on what he has done for the American league

Happy Friday… bring on the jokes!

P.S. William Gallas has a new book out tomorrow, it’s £9.99 at all good stockists. Read more revelations here!

vp has 9 in 12 starts this season, 9 in 19 last season but he was incredibly rusty never really match fit and 11 in 17 season before. He has an incredible goalscoring record and will always score when fit and playing! Though he isn’t perfect, and far from Henry, he is miles better than anyone else we currently have so gotta make do!

  2. magnus

Don’t get me wrong here – I love Fab, but I’m not sure if he is captain material..
When it comes to tomorrows game…Hmm I’m not sure 1 thing is certain – we don’t have that many players with the stature needed…But if ihave to pick one, i would have
to go for Gael… Hes giving 100% day in and out…

  3. bergkamp

for now id say almunia,i love gael clichey but he is too emotional to be a leader of men ,he has problem dealing with his own mistakes,he deserves a shot of course but so do many, we made one mistake we just shouldnt rush into another!

  4. A

i agree completely bergs. I can’t see how it’ll be anyone apart from almunia for the time being, as clichy and cesc aren’t ready yet and once its done you can’t take it back! It does worry me though as almunia needs to concentrate on his own game too!!

  5. magnus

When it comes to RVP i would say that the temprature (up there between the ears) are to ofthen a bit on the high side for my liking…Trust everybody remember the “little” incident with Thomas Soerensen……Not very inteligent if you ask me!!!!

  6. bergkamp

9 in 12 starts an in every game nearly every chace has fallen to him,he takes free kicks an penaltys an theo hasnt had a good game with van on the same pitch, ade scored 30 last season this season van wont even pass him the ball, van falls into cescs favourite position an hardly ever gets in the box when theo is cutting in,he missed a hatrick against sunderland and a hat trick against fulham, our best attacking performances man united fenehbahche away and bolton have all been vanless, for me we havent won a big game with van in the team since man united when henry scored

  7. peachesgooner

He may choose Almunia for tmoro and I would respect him for that, but I think he’ll change it for the next game.

  8. bergkamp

sorenson said he got van sent off,if you ask me van knew wat he was doin, how can he attack theo walcott as well at half time, what has van ever achieved to make him the chief of pointing fingers??

  9. bergkamp

if i was gonna name a full time arsenal captain right now id choose cesc or cliche, its as simple as a coin toss, but right now id say almunia or sylvestre before either of them as i dont think either is mentally at any type of peak an they havent been this low before form wise

  10. bergkamp

i just think van doesnt realise that there is a clock an when it says 90 minutes the game is up,he is more interested in hitting top corners than actually aimin at the target,he isnt a team player, last season we done well without him, eduardo an ade are the ones out of the selection we have, van just dreams of bein a bergkamp when truthfully he has the talent but not the attitude

  11. Maciek

    Hello!
If Wenger choses Silvestre it will only tell You something about ambitions of Our Club. He was 4th or even 5th choice defender, when he was a MU player and now he will be our captain?I don’t belive it.

  12. bergkamp

its not about ambition pickin the captain on saturday, its about choosin the most mentally fit man on the pitch, the man who is best to help a team ride out a problem, cesc an them aint seen these type of problems before

  13. peachesgooner

Bergie – you say a lot of sensible things, vp is not a team player – my friends and i have discussed this often. Its a shame, as he has the talent to be a fantastic player for us. His work off the ball is rubbish, he often wanders around aimlessly

  14. Maciek

As for Van Persie. I like him and I know that injuries stopped him from being even a better player but he isn’t as good as most of us think. He has an ego, and I don’t think our style suits him. Well, maybe it’s just me. Anyway I would love to sell him and buy Villa. But, isn’t Villa to similar to Eduardo?

  15. bergkamp

van is the most talented forward at arsenal, but he is a what is know as a scorer of great goals, not a great goal scorer,he is more interested in the way the ball hits the net rather than how often it hits the net,and he is over rated,he has scored 3 freekicks in about 5 years

  16. bergkamp

how often instead of takin the corners properly do you see van run over to the corner so he can get his 8 touches of the ball,he picks himself in his own sun dream team , he does so many wasteful things,at least cescs freekicks hit the wall, van fucking kills people on the upper tear 9 times out of ten,but oh yeah he is the cultured left foot

  17. peachesgooner

Bergie – you have summed him up in a nutshell – he only wants to score fantastic goals not a fantastic number of goals

  18. Maciek

    Hello Avenell.
Who would You like to see wearing captain’s armband? My choice would be Fabregas. Maybe that will make him a player we used to know and like?

  19. A

bergkamp did you just claim that ronaldo doesnt have the ego of vp?! ronaldo has the biggest ego world football has ever seen, hes a complete and utter turd and has been piping on for 2 years about being the best player in the world!! henry had a massive ego, having an ego doesn’t make you a shit player! he’d miles better than anyone else we have at the moment, ade has an absolutely massive ego, even bigger than vps, and he’s nowhere near as talented! I’m very worried about ade’s input without gallas. Everytime he isn’t playing or when he is before kick off and half time he seems to be trying to give our kids advice. Being one of the thickest footballers in the prem he can’t actually offer anything worthwhile, but i can imagine him before a game without gallas doing the teamtalk him taking it upon himself to jump in the middle of the circle try and take over!

  20. bergkamp

peaches,he is the kind of guy who wants to be the darling of the support, but that happens naturally, you cant make that happen, van talks about the telepathic understanding with ade after ade puts two goals on a plate for him,but a week earlier against hull he is refusin to pass ade the ball, but ade gets the blame when this season all the chances fall to van so far

  21. bergkamp

used to know and like,we all like fabregas still, this is a temporary dip for cesc, when wenger finds a suitable water carrier an releases the fab back to do what he does best service will be resumed

  22. bergkamp

the team will never get on ade’s back because ade will bust a gut to help the midfield when they are struggling, and he accepts responsibilty an helps defend, when does van??

  23. bergkamp

no one is on vans back, van dissed theo for shooting against spurs instead of layin the ball off to him, thats the rumour, and i hear from a decent friend that inthe short time van was on the pitch against stoke he told gallas to go fuck himself, this is the problems an those are just two incidents

  24. avenell

Maciek. If I had to choose a permanent captain from what we have at the moment I would give it to Clichy because he is an example to everyone with his running and tackling.
But if we have Almunia and Toure as vice captains do we need to worry until the summer?

  25. bergkamp

if we sign a quality defender who is currently a club captain or a dm should he be on the possibilty list for the captains role?? avenell

  26. A

ade doesnt help defend, he’s told to help defend but doesn’t really even try when he’s back there. He does a token jump at set pieces, if that, he doesn’t actually care about the team! Look at guiza when fenebache scored, 100% ade’s fault, and it wasn’t cos he made a mistake or misjudgement, he just didn’t try.

  27. peachesgooner

When Henry left we noticed immediately that certain players were able to play with more freedom, if Gallas not being captain has the same effect then its surely worth it.

The sad part is that the captain should inspire the team to go forward and Gallas did not do this. Whoever stands up to the plate tmoro will have his job cut out.

Also it may be to our advantage that VP’S nature has been revealed!!!!!

  28. A

paul what on earth are you talking about?! how is it saying fuck the supporters?! i really dont get why when bad things happen fans attack the club, or when the press try their best to make things as bad as possible fans attack the club rather than the press. there hasn’t been a comment because there are loads of decisions to be made and they won’t make an announcement until all the necessary decisions have been made.

  29. bergkamp

i always knew about van persies nature ,he was a trouble maker before we signed him, he got injured in a pitch invasion by supporters of his old club an clashed with senior players regular even quickly takin a free kick that pierre van hoidonk placed in one game, it was seen when he scored against charlton an henry tried to stop him getting booked an he slagged of theirry, how can van slag off a legend like theirry? how comes half the time he feuds its with another dutchman? why did he try break hasslebainks leg

  30. Maciek

    Thanks Avenell.
Bergkamp- sorry my mistake. Of course, we still love Cesc(I still admire him) but I was thinking more about his attitude and his poor form. I think it dawn to Cesc and Wenger, because he let him down in the summer, and young Spaniard just knows that Denilson and Song aren’t Flamini.

  31. bergkamp

i agree its not fuck the supporters,if arsenal could give info to their fans exclusively without showin the world our problems, finances etc im sure they would, but were a club not a plc, privately owned!

  32. bergkamp

dont worry mr maciek, cesc will rise up again,he is doin a great service to arsenal right now an gettin on with it silently, could you imagine if milan asked kaka to play deep an have a minor fill in his favourite role an stroll around doin not a lot when we lose possesion, cesc will be back hungrier

  33. Confidentgoner

Arsenal need prayers right now. Before we go to bed let all Gunners say a prayer for our beloved team.AW does not know brigade. (ADNKB)

  34. bergkamp

its a shame lehman isnt around,he was outspoken but in a competitive way,he would deliever a speech which would make martin luther king proud, that would rally the troops, but i dont see that kind of influence being in the dressing room now, this is why wenger should be employing guys like keown or extending players like pires contract, only a legend can tell a future set of legends what is expected of them

  35. pat

Van Buyten isn’t necesarily better than any CB we have guys. In euro 08 qualifying, he was at fault for the goals Poland scored against them, both home and away. He got burned by a Palermo reject(Matusiak). I, for 1, do not want Van Buyten. He’s good in the air, thats about it. I’m sure Djourou is better if given the time.

  36. Maciek

Thanks for response Mr Bergkamp. You can call me Maciek( that will be better). As for Cesc. There is something wrong with hin, I think that he will be off to Barca in the summer. But I won’t cry because we have got Nasri, Rosicky, Merida and Ramsey. But I care about our CDM and CD positions. We don’t have ANY quality cdm at our Club, and that’s all dawn to Wenger. But he”knows”, doesn’t he?

  37. bergkamp

wenger knows william G was turning into a crazy man yes maciek ,he must know we need a dm i dont think he knows yet whether his intended targets will be available in january

  38. avenell

Why do you think that Ramsey cannot be your CDM ? Maciek.

When Arsene signed him he said he can play anywhere along the back 4.

  39. Maciek

Mr Avenell, he could be a great DM( better than Song and Denilson, already), but at the moment he lacks stamina. And to be a CDM You need to be an inteligent player and a powerful one . He is very intelligent, but isn’t it to early to him to play as cdm? Call me crazy, but I would drop Cesc and Denilson, who I don’t like, and would play Aaron and Coquelin.

  40. Maciek

Let’s be fair. If we fail to win ANY trophy this season and end up OUTSIDE the top 4- he should be SACKED? He is a maker and breaker.

  41. avenell

Maciek.. Who else do you think could of kept Arsenal in the top 4 on the budget that Arsene has been given in the last 4 years?
There are 17 clubs who have spent more than him but only 2 have been more successful..
Does that not make him a good manager who deserves a chance now that we have nearly completed our move from Highbury?

He has done the hard work and got us through the years when money has been limited.

You can leave of the Mr if you want Avenell is only a nickname..

  42. Maciek

All I want is a little bit of honesty from him and our board. I think we all deserve it. If he don’t have any money- than he should just say- sorry guys we are skint. But all we hear from our bourd is- we got 70 milion to spend( Edelman), Arsene can splash 30 mln. for one player( Fiszman). It’s unfair. Just say Arsene, that You are scared of spending big, and it will help.

  43. Isaac

    that’s not true avenell.
arsenal has the 3rd biggest wage bill in the epl (as of 2007-2008 at least) at ~70m per season. It wouldn’t be too far to say that any manager would have kept us in the top 4. Just look at all the turmoil Liverpool had before Benitez and they still managed to stay in the top 4.
Wenger DID use our comparatively small budget (compared to the other top 3, not the rest of the league) and challenged for the title, which was a real feat. But this season, he’s not.

  44. avenell

We have spent £400 million on a stadium …
Chelsea have spent £500 million on players, they don’t even own the ground they play in…. see when you think about it Arsene deserves a bit more time.

Not forever… Arsenal are a proud club they are not going to say they have no money to spend and I think they would borrow a bit if it helps Wenger and I think that is what we will do in January and in the summer.

  45. Maciek

So, Avenell if our board is not going to say that we are in red, and don’t have money for transfers, do You think it’s fair? You want to be lied? It’s ok if You will be cheated?

  46. avenell

Liverpool backed Benitez and Houlier with millions and he still dropped out of the top 4 and let Everton in and they still haven’t made the big move to a new ground.

Also with regards to the wage bill it has built Arsenal probably the beat future team in the Premiership, he just needs to sort this season out.

    What bits not true?

  47. Maciek

    Borrow money?
We make 3.5 milion pounds per match, excluding tv, comercials, etc. and we may be forced to borrow? So. where are our money going?

  48. Maciek

Avenell. I RESPECT YOUR view. You have seen Arsenal more times than I will ever be. But( don’t get me wrong) Wenger isn’t a God. He is just a human. He is tired. You can see this. He should retire for his own good. I love him, but he is finished, and because I admire him I want for him all the best. I fear for his health.

  49. avenell

No, No, we turnover £3 million pounds a game we have an electric bills and other things to pay out of that…

If you sell a car for £300 pounds but you bought it for £299 you have only made a pound…

  50. avenell

I have supported Arsenal for 40 years nearly (that doesn’t make me a better supporter than you Maciek), but really we are just customers of Arsenal and I don’t need to know some things as much as I want to.
I have seen and been in the £400 million stadium and it is the future, even though I would much rather be standing at the old clock end at Arsenal.
I have also run my own buisness in England since 1991 and I appreciate how Arsenal are trying to do things the right way not borrowing too much and growing slowly, if we had of invested in players and a stadium we would be £1000,000,000 in debt A Thousand Million pounds in debt.
This is for the long tem future of Arsenal football club, even if it hurts for a few years..
    AKBish :(

  51. Evo in Oz

gday all, welcome back to me!

first time blogging since last saturdays debacle against villa. Once again it was just too much to bear to think about football, so i took the whole week off!

Now today reading my first piece of football news i find the Gallas issue. So this seems pretty big, could i go as far as to say that? is he out for the game today and has he infact lost the captaincy, is that official?

i see Cesc is banned today as well for too many yellows, we could be stuffed?

could you guys bring me up to speed please?!

  52. Keyser

That’s not AKB’ish that’s realism, we can question how much risk Arsenal are taking at the prsent minute but we’re not in their shoes we’re not responsible for the future of Arsenal football club.

I’m glad we’re working steadily and while it may not work out right away we’ll enjoy the football for years to come.

    http://www.arsenalnewsreview.co.uk/index.php?mact=News,cntnt01,detail,0&cntnt01articleid=1127&cntnt01origid=30&cntnt01returnid=42

Btw Myles Palmer does talk a load of rubbish sometimes, if you want to question people’s motives with what they say and do, he isn’t a bad place to start.

  53. gnarleygeorge9

Roy Keane as a potential manager for The Arsenal

    1. He has something to prove
    2. Would do a great job with more in his Arsenal (more spending power :) )
    3. There is no doubt he would know exactly the type of DM to get for Cesc/Ramsay.
    4. He knows what it takes to win the Cups,
    5. He has learnt his craft from Sir Fur-on-Tongue (love them or hate them, you can’t deny both are winners)

  54. avenell

Evo Yes your are right… The BBC, SSN, Setanta and everyone else say it.. not seen nothing from the Arsenal site but we never do..

I think will do okay though the shackles are off now Gallas has gone!

  55. ReVELAtion

Gallas debate rolls on then… In all honesty i’m glad he has been stripped of/given up the captaincy… Regardless of whatever happened, in all walks of life, as in what happens in thailand, stays in thailand can be said true of the dressing room also… WE are never usually in the papers with this nonsense and the fact we now are is because of our captain and yes, something had to be done immediately… Gallas will be gone in january, but the damage has been done and will only esculate unless he is sent to the reserves untill the january transfer window… There really is no other way around in now i’m afraid and we all wait with baited breath for a staement from our club manager or official website.

Who sould be made captain though? The obvious choices are Toure, Almunia, Clichy or Fabregas… Almunia is a non starter for me although he’ll probably captain the side against citeh… Toure doesn’t look indispensible and out of form and clichy and fabregas are a little, well, young although they both qualify on merit alone….. I’m actually going to go with Van Perise as my captain choice… I do not know how he (RVP) ended up being lambasted on here yesterday (maybe because the rumours say he was the one who went ape shit at half time against the scum), but either way he is 25 and something of an enigma with fight… The only question is can he stay fit and out of trouble? and another question is he actually a player who should/could start every game?

I don’t believe the team would meet to elect a new captain. That is the managers job in all honesty. Our season ha sturned into a farce and the chess clock above Arsene’s head has well and trul been pressed now… He has to rally the troops, flog ALL the bad influences and try to make the home stretch of the season one where we are still in contention for trophies… If he fails, he will have no one but himself to blame when he is booed off at the emirates and handed his P-45… Signings in januray are always seen as panic buys or injury cover… We’re on both sides of that fence and all i can say as an arsenal fan at the moment is that my team, captain, board and manager have made a mug of me and all arsenal supporters and i am embarrassed today to even have to try and smile when defending this nonsense to other die hard fans…..

Time is running out Arsene…. Only this time, it’s for you!

  56. patthegooner

I get what you are saying there Avenell regarding wanting to do things the right way regarding finance, but on the other hand do you then think it is acceptable to charge the most money in world football to watch a team that can only really hope to finish 4th?

I still dont even understand how there is no money for player investment, jesus we are in credit during Wenger’s tenure.

I dont want to know everything that is going on but I would like a bit more honesty and clarity.

  57. Evo in Oz

    thanks lads, good info!

this could implode on us big time, nothing like a backs to the wall win! however, perhaps we used that up against the scum – i hope not!

not sure whether ill watch tonights game, staying up until 2am just to see shite results like last weeks villa game is wasting my time! however i love the arsenal and i dare say i will have to watch!

  58. patthegooner

Well Arsenal.com has just been updated but there is nothing on the Gallas Story……..Same old Arsenal always putting their head in the Sand

  59. marylandgunner

Evo, welcome back. You will watch the game . . . it’s in your blood. Hey, I was at the game, and I was in shock. I had to muster up all I could to belt some songs out. It was painful watching the players hang their heads. Truly painful.

  60. ReVELAtion

if wenger has any marbles left, he seriously cannot let him surely, after all this nonsense….. But in football, more so than life infact, NOTHING would suprise me…

  61. marylandgunner

Patt, I doubt that Wegner would say anything before the game. I bet you he is staving off the comments until after Saturday.

At this point, he is probably working on damage control. The captaincy order goes Gallas, Toure, and then Almunia. If Toure starts, he will wear the armband for the game, and if Gallas is really gone, then most likely Toure will have it for the rest of the season.

They decide on this stuff at the beginning of the season. We did the same thing when I used to play in school.

  62. patthegooner

I think Cesc will get it. I think Toure will be by-passed

It is now time for a Toure Djourou partnership now. Give them four weeks and Wenger will be convinced that he does not need to buy a CB in Jan

  63. avenell

Pat. Would you rather pay £100pounds a ticket or pay £75.00 and the club have to borrow an extra £75.00 from a bank every game for every person?
That is what Chelsea and Man U are doing, then they have to service those debts, Man U pay £50 million a year in interest.
Patience 1 or 2 more years..

  64. Maciek

    Avenell
What if we fail to be in the top 4 for the next 2 seasons? If our board will see many empty seats at the Emirates, it will be a wake up call for them. I just want to see a little bit of ambition. I’m not talking about 3 players for 100 milion pounds. I’m talking about ambition. And fighting with Villa for 4th spot isn’t something You can call ambition. If we end up as mediocre team do You honestly tel me, that Villa’s of this world will be prefering to play for us?

  65. Evo in Oz

thanks Maryland – im sure ill watch!

so who will play in midfield today? you think it will be nasri-diaby-denilson-someone?

  66. patthegooner

Then if that is the case Avenell then we should not have moved in the 1st place as we obviously could not afford it

  67. Paulinho

A classic on Arse.com – Wenger: mental resolve needed for title tilt.

It will be very interesting to hear Wenger’s interview after the game tomorrow – especially if we lose.

  68. marylandgunner

Avenell, that is sound financial advice. The problem is that the bulk of us (me included) want trophies. Since I don’t see us winning the league, if we can pay off our debts, stay in the top 4, and win the FA Cup or the CL, then I think that Arsene got it right. If we win nothing . . . well, where do we go from here?

The other question is whether or not we would be debt free in 2 years? I thought that we were on a 20 year loan? Geoff would know since he is a shareholder. Just some food for thought.

It says in the Bible . . . the debter is slave to the lender . . . aint that the truth.

  69. patthegooner

Well Said Maciek, completely agree with that

Remember it was the board that said we were moving to pay the best wages and buy the best players and compete at the highest level.

Oh and I would rather pay £30 a ticket

  70. Evo in Oz

agreed – a win today is the minimum. RVP surely should bag some goals today if he scored 2 midweek, is that right? by mate text me to tell me he bagged 2 for holland?

  71. Keyser

How many of you read the Roy Keane statement where he lambasted all the pundits and the likes of SkySports who use the media to whip up unknowing fans into a frenzy, there’s problems at our club but either people lack the vocabularly or they’re just using the same words that Skysports have fed into them.

This is a crisis ? Arsenal are in turmoil ? Is there any way back from this disaster to end all disasters ?! Word’s, paragraphs, whole essays and blogs devoted to exultations of the impending apocalytic dooooooom.

  72. avenell

Maciek we have a waiting list of 46,000 for season tickets. Some of that is due to the way Arsene has got Arsenal playing.
This year we should be debt free apart from a fixed rate loan, If Wenger doesn’t deliver in the next year or so then your right out him. but not just yet..

  73. ReVELAtion

Why do all these non arsenal mugs have to throw in their twopenny to the debate like their opinion even counts for shit!!!! Tony Gale, Harry Redknapp etc Fuck off you cnuts!!!

Just seen nige’s interview on sky and he pretty much does a good job of sitting on the fence whilst reiterating that dirty landry should not be aiired in public…

The more i read, think and debate this article the more i envisage football on a whole becoming a fucking big top circus with sweaty rag newspapers the blow by blow rundown of entertainment….

I thought i’d would get better after the whole real madrid galactico break up… Goes to show 1 thing,,, The media (internet, papers, t.v) are having waaaay too much of an influence on proceedings of this nature….

  74. Keyser

Sad fact of it is we couldn’t afford to stay at Highbury either, if we were barely competing with the likes of United back then, we were never going to suddenly start competing when they started spending 60 million a season on players.

The only that would have happened was if everyone at the stadium suddenly started shelling 3 or 4 times the ticket prices they were used to.

  75. patthegooner

And that is where we all differ Avenell. We all have a patience threshold and longer this continues the more the fans will turn against him.

I agree that Wenger has created that waiting list, but

We have a waiting list of that number not because of how we are currently playing, it is because of how we were playing between 98 and 04. Since then we have been decline. Sure there has been pretty football, but dont kid yourself, we picked a lot of new fans whilst we were winning things and that is what new fans are drawn to. Those levels will be in decline now.

I remember being able to pitch up at Highbury back in 95 and buy a ticket in the portacabin to the side of the North Bank.

  76. Keyser

ReVELAtion – It is a circus, and you’re exactly right look at the amount of power the likes of SkySports can exert, no statement has come out from Arsenal over what’s to happen with Gallas but already the media has got everyone talking about who should be the next Captain and where Gallas will end up in January, it’s taken about 24 hours for all of this to come about.

  77. Maciek

Ok. Thanks for Your attention guys. Happy weekend. All the best and till tomorrow……today(LOL).
    Best wishes, and nighty night!

P.S. I will go for 2:1 to the Arsenal (Robinhio, Song X2). Just mark my words.

  78. patthegooner

Dont get me wrong I am please we moved to a new stadium, I am just sick of the propaganda machine, it is a sad state of affairs.

As mentioned before, the move was to be able to compete, they promised it. We would be the best team in the world and saturdays line up would be like an All-star game.

Then at the end of every season Wenger admits where we are lacking, promises the world on signings (Conveniently at Renewel time when I have to pay another £30 for a poxy carboard box with a DVD and a book in it) and never delivers and then they rub our noses in it by saying the money is there over and over again.

we are a cash cow and we are the muppets being milked.

  79. gnarleygeorge9

The best way to shut up the “outsiders” or press/media is to win. Then the silence from them will be deafening

  80. patthegooner

I personally dont give a shit about all the pundits coming out and stating their opinion about who should be the next captain.

This is potentially the major news story of Arsenal’s Season and in lieu of the club actually releasing a statement the speculation will only continue.

  81. avenell

Pat I know we want to win things, but no one knows where this financial crisis will end.
I don’t think no other club could move grounds like we have, and stayed in the top 4 and done it within the restictions of London..

  82. ReVELAtion

basically we can all choose to believe skysports and their interviews with mugs and mug pundits… or not…. But untill i see an official club statement or interview with our manager, nothing has changed in my opinion besides the fact that our captain aired our dirty laundry in public…. AND that is the thing i can’t calm down about… Some “fan” even had the nerve to e-mail in becuase he pays all this money to go to games he should have the right to know what is going on behind the scenes in the dressing room… Well all i can say to that is Vieira was known as “le grand sausison” which in english translates as the giant sausage… There’s some dressing room info for you… All you really should be concerned about is what happens on the pitch! And what i am seeing right now, does not agree!

  83. Keyser

PattheGooner – What’s happened since we decided to more to the Emirates, Abramovich has come into English football and turnd it on it’s head, how the hell do you counter that ? Change the board, the manager, bring in tens of millions worth of new players and then what we’re just about competing again ? It’d still take years to come about.

Do you really pay all that money just to turn up in May to watch someone lift a piece of silverware ? Is there nothing else at all that you enjoy from a game ?!

  84. gnarleygeorge9

    Pat

releasing well thought out official statements by The Club i can handle, its the constant whinging when something doesn’t quite go right for Wenger & now gallas, that is the worry.

  85. ReVELAtion

I hate to say it, being half french aswell doesn’t help, but what do you expect when you have french people in charge? Alot of fucking whinging!

  86. bergkamp

if only we could muster up one of them no one likes us everyone is against us so fuck them all mentalitys in our team, george graham was the master at the everyones aginst us speech

  87. gnarleygeorge9

Take this the right way all those English Arsenal supporters, but as an Australian I don’t like, don’t expect & well will not accept losing. And if things don’t improve serious decisions/actions are made until things do improve.

In a nut shell anyone who says its sport for sports sake live in a culture of being 2nd best, Thats why we beat England 90% of the time in most sports, Chamone :)

  88. bergkamp

they dont need a statement, wenger has work to do preparing the team, whats a statement for? how does a statement help a team win games?

  89. patthegooner

    Keyser

Come on, Abramovich was there before the stadium.

I am not asking for the club to spend 200m.

    Facts

    1) We all know where we are short

    2) We have Money

    3) We could have Strengthened

    4) If we had Strengthened we would be in a better position

All I fucking want is for us to compete. Only one club can win it and I know that but I want us to be in the mix come May and I know that if Wenger had invested a little more each season without having to bankrupt us then we would not be in this position. Hell we would probably be in more money from merchandising and Competition money..

i enjoy a lot from the game but I get fucking frustrated when I see the club I love being managed and run in a fucking recklass manner…

  90. gnarleygeorge9

    Reva

everyone whinges, its the going public & whinging that is the problem. Wenger should just whinge to Mrs Wenger, who will then say “Its alright Arsene, have a narce cup of le tea & you will feel much better”

  91. ReVELAtion

I think arsene will shut up shop and avoid questions… All that is certain is that gallas wont play on saturday and whoever is captain is not the confirmed choice untill arsene can call on a first choice 11 with all supposedly new captain candidates fit and/or playing

  92. gnarleygeorge9

    bergy

Pedro will tell you that Home & Away has the best shiellas. But you’ll have to take his word coz I don’t watch either. Generation Y is so boring ;)

  93. patthegooner

Gnarley you are on the nose there.

I am English and I hate the English Trait of so easily accepting 2nd place (if not 4th).

If this was a small story Bergkamp I would agree with you, but this is huge,

He has a job to prepare the team, but the club has a loyalty to its fans and shareholders. They should have made a statement in my view. I dont think it will affect the game tomorrow, the Players will already be affected by it. but how will 2000 travelling gooners feel by it.

  94. gnarleygeorge9

    Paulinho

We will win that in a canter. You don’t know the Gabba pitch. Even pommy bowlers could get a wicket on it

  95. ReVELAtion

Oh how we loved alf stewart back in the early 90′s…

Get out me shop ya flamin’ mongrel
    ……………………….. flamin’ gallah
    ……………………….. flamin’ ya-hoo’

  96. bergkamp

pat the gooner its not huge, its only as huge as you make it,the truth about arsenal is weve lost gallas, wow, might be for the best,we havent had a captain since viera left just a player wearing the armband, its for the greater good!

  97. patthegooner

I think running the risk of not finishin 4th because you continue to gamble on a formula that is not working is recklass my friend

  98. bergkamp

the club doesnt have to be loyal to the fans, the club doesnt ask anyone to support it,thats optional, the club does not need to release statements or do anything,we all know gallas is gone,so the club should release a ststement sayin what exactly?? we dropped gallas for being a pratt?? is that the kind of thing u need them to say??

  99. avenell

Arsenal have been talking of moving since the mid 90′s.. Kings Cross, renting Wembley etc so before Abramovich..
Fizman and other shareholders have up to £150 million pounds each tied up in our club.. They have put there money where there mouth is and it is in there’s and Arsenals long term interest for this club to be successful so I have to respect there views..

  100. ReVELAtion

thin line between recklessness and genius… and oh how the mighty have fallen to one knee… All it needs is a “cesc fucking off to spain story” from the sun again in the next couple of days to really put arsene on the canvas

  101. patthegooner

You dont think losing the club captain be it by resignation or sacking is not a huge story?

I did not say it wasn’t for the best but it is still a huge story.

  102. goonermichael

Gnarley what happenend in the olympics? and the rugby? must have been hard for you. Of course we all want to win but, if it really doesn’t matter how you win as long as you win I wouldn’t bother watching personally I’d just go to highbury corner and watch the parade in may. But that doesn’t mean coming second is ok. It obviously hurts. It was a great wind up beating the mancs in the fa cup final on pens but I still found it embarrassing how we played.

  103. bergkamp

pat the gooner, the club is all about making money,it costs money to build a squad that wins the league,so its more cost effective not to spend the money and just qualify for the champions league, the only way arsenal will spend the money required is if their is a chance they will fall out of contention for the CL league, the alarm bells will ring then

  104. gnarleygeorge9

    Paulinho

And while on the subject of cricket (Geoffs not here so we can mention it) I see the south african saviour KP honeymoon period is over. Down 3-0 after 3 games

  105. bergkamp

club captain,do you really rate gallas as a captain?? he was given the armband in hope he wouldnt make outbursts, not because of his desire to lead by example

  106. Keyser

PattheGooner – None of those are certainties unless you have a time machine, when do you think we decided to build a new stadium ? We’ve been looking to extend Highbury for years and years on end, you don’t factor Abramovich into and even if you do you realise that it’s going to take a few years to make the transition.

The reality is that our squad in terms or spending power and worth doesn’t come close to what Chelsea or United have thats not because we’ve been cheated in any way it’s because simply they’ve spent far above their own means.

Againa you don’t know what would have happened, Mikel is supposedly showing form that has people reminiscing of the days of Vieira that’s the backup they have in a position where they’ve strengthed to the tne of 40 odd million, one Chelsea player in our team say Essien would make a huge difference, one Arsenal player in theirs would just be another player, yet still Wenger keeps us going.

That isn’t fucking reckless thats almost the opposite it’s almost too cautious.

Chelsea can afford to take 30 million punts on players like Schevchenko we can’t, that’s the simple fact of it all, I want us to Challenge I want Wenger to bring in a couple of players but I’m not going to call it reckless if he chooses not to.

Hopefully he’ll spend some of that money soon and if not there’s plenty of players that will want to take up the mantle from the reserves.

  107. bergkamp

gallas might not have even lost the captains armband,he might be just rested for the weekend and told to cool off,so why would they release a statement without thinking it over?? what if we lose two centre halfs to injury against city?? we might have to beg gallas to remain captain
