Arsene’s prudence means the only pot we’ll win will be an Uzbek.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Here’s the deal, we charge more than any other club in the world to see a football match, fact. We have won nothing for 3 seasons, fact.

By the end of next season we could be debt free, fact. Will the fans be happy? No. Will more people sell their shares, yes. Usmanov already has 149 more than he had a month ago according to reports yesterday.

So no matter what Wenger does after this season, he can’t stop Usmanov becoming the majority Arsenal shareholder, fact. Even the lockdown can’t stop people like me selling their shares to the rotund Uzbek.

So then what could happen? This could happen. He could come in and loan us £300 million with the remit of win everything, if you don’t want to buy players Arsene I’ll employ Maureen and he will, your choice.

Then we’ll be the most successful club in the world that owns its own stadium, but has a huge debt, will you the fan care? Probably not, will he care? No.

So that’s the future Arsene and the current board, you may well be ‘not buying’ your way into a takeover through your ‘stinginess’ and ‘lack of success’ and how many people out there that support this great club will give a rats arse? Probably none, and that includes the players.

Sure, maybe Cesc will go, because he wants an excuse to go home anyway, Song will go because anyone coming in will realise how useless he is and let him go, so be warned Arsenal, the writing is on the wall, and after Saturday do I care? No quite frankly, I don’t.

You summed it up yesterday by deeming it more important to sell me ‘Jumbo Christmas cards’ than to tell me you will be reinforcing this great club in January because your experiment isn’t ready yet.

Arsenal’s mantra is to skin the fans first and worry about winning stuff second.

And you know what though, all this will happen and we’ll have a Kenyon installed because Dein has split with Red and White, so not even a silver cloud.

Unless someone from Arsenal wants to tell me any different?

AKB’s do with that as you will, I’m an Arsenal fan are you?

You want our advice the board? Go make up with Dein, get your cheque book out and tell Wenger to start acting like he’s in the Premiership, not the conference, oh and stop lying to us, that’s not so cool.

Update: Theo is out for up to 3 months after dislocating his shoulder. Theo is just as injury prone as Rosicky… we really are heading up shit creek at the moment…

terry is an absolute clown! both to blame but terry more, how on earth he’s england captain when he shouldn’t be starting i’ll never know!

  2. A

VP goal on 101 great goals, first was a decent enough flicked header, second pretty easy follow up. Still gotta be good for his confidence! He should be very fresh for saturday.

I reckon sat’s team will vary betwen 4-4-2 and 4-5-1. Nasri Song Den Diaby and VP might start off in midfield too

  3. A

Sorry, I abreviated Denilson to Den, just being lazy! If only SWP had come to us instead of Chelsea, Wenger would have done wonders with him!

I do hope Ramsey does start rather than Song, but I really can’t see it with how dead he looked today

  4. Paulinho

Ramsay is not ready to start in central midfield for us, and not sure he’s quite ready to play on the wing either.

He does seem to gas very easily, but then comes alive with the ball at his feet. The boggy pitch didn’t help. He’s very good at automatically doing the stepovers when he has the ball, like one of the players in those computer games.

  5. A

I’ve posted the links for VP goals twice and when i refresh it my post isn’t here, weird.

With all due respect to Theo, who will become amazing, SWP is better. If we’d signed him when he was at Man City and taking the Prem by storm he never would have gone so far backwards, he’s only just recovering for City. Theo is ultimately meant to be a forward too!

  6. Big Raddy

Just watched the Wales game. The Danish TV thought Ramsey was the best player on the pitch. It is remarkable that a 17y.o is trusted to run the play of an National team. Are you watching AW ?

And Nik ? The idiot of a Danish manager played Nik as the lone striker, and he stank. Didn’t anyone watch the AV game ? When he brought on a 2nd striker, Nik started to roam and became more influential. But overall , another poor game from the big man.

  7. rico01

Downing has been pretty good tonight

I am cheesed off though, this bloomin footie match has prevented I’m a Celeb being on !¬! :(

  8. A

Paulinho I disagree, JT is exactly what’s wrong with British football, and why we fell so far behind the rest of the world! We seem to consider bravery and determination and just general thuggery (though the press and pundits call it passion) as equal or more important attributes than technical ability and reading of the game. Terry makes a potential gift of a goal mistake a game, but because he tries hard and is english everyone ignores it. He’s a good premiership defender, but a long way away from being one of the best in the world, and he shouldn’t even start for england when everyone’s fit IMO.

I agree completely with Ramsey though, as with Wilshere both of them are incredible talents and can look fantastic at times but neither are ready for Premiership starts.

  9. Paulinho

The welsh commentators are absolutely obsessed with Ramsay. It’s quite funny.

I wish Wenger bought Michael Carrick when had the chance to for £2.5 million. I remember at the time he said “I like Carrick” and all the usual guff. It’s amazing how he is so fussy when it comes to english players and yet will think nothing of applying for a permt for Alex Song and buy players like Denilson.

  10. A

Raddy Bendtner was Denmark’s best player in the first half! almost set up two goals with great little through balls on the edge of the area, and generally looked very dangerous! You can really see how much more confidence he has with Denmark, he looks a totally different player to his current guise with us.

  11. avenell

A.. If Ramsey and Wilshere are not ready to start they should not be in the first team squad, they should be playing for the reserves every week.

  12. Seb

What will our 2012 starting lineup be I wonder…

    Fabianski
    Sagna Djourou Nordveidt Clichy
    Nasri Ramsey Wilshere Merida
    Walcott Vela

I’m assuming Cesc will be long gone by then of course… and of course it might be Nikki B insted of Theo ;)

  13. A

Carrick is very average Paulinho, he wouldn’t get in our team unless we completely changed our style of play. He certainly couldn’t play as a DM alongside Cesc

  14. A

avenell Wilshere does play for the reserves every week. They’re in the first team squad when they’re inside the top 7 players we have outside the first 11 available, so if we need to make a change or there’s an injury then we need them available to come on, there isn’t anyone else! And they’ll never be ready to start if they don’t integrate into the squad and make sub appearances, you don’t overnight go from not being ready to being ready, you have to be introduced gradually, making more and more sub appearances, then occasional starts, then being a regular, like theo.

  15. A

    Seb
It’d definitely be Bend rather than Theo, we’d never be able to have those two as a partnership they’re too small!

Wilshere I very much doubt will ever play CM, he’ll only play centrally in a 5 man midfield!

  16. Seb

avenell we just need to buy three great 27-29yos in January to win all the cups this season with them, bag the league for the next two seasons, all the while giving the team above more and more experience, then flog the 30-32yos and stick with the above. Simple!

I like that team except the two CMs and the two forwards are midgets, maybe some of them will grow taller over the next 4 years… The defence would own though.

  17. Paulinho

A, Terry wouldn’t have got as far as he has if he wasn’t a good reader of the game. That’s his strong point. Chelsea’s central defence is unbreachable at times and he is big reason for it. He’s also very good technically. I don’t like the guy either, and the tough no-nonsense mentality irks me too, but Terry is guy who talks the talk and walks it as well. I admire the way he makes up for lack of pace with aggression and ballsy reading of the game.

Carrick has improved the defensive part of his game and would say he is far from average. He is much better than Denilson. Not even close. He and Cesc would work every well together IMO.

I thought Bendtner had a good game for Denmark. It’s a shame he doesn’t feel as liberated for Arsenal than he does with Denmark. Denmark have a shit side as well so he should prosper with our players.

  18. A

We’ll agree to disagree regarding both Terry and Carrick, I wouldn’t want them near our club and wouldn’t have either in our team even with the way it is at the moment.

I agree about Bendtner, I wonder what the difference is. Whether it’s because he’s their main man, has been their Rooney as such for a couple of years so that gives him confidence, or I wonder if it’s because he still doesn’t get on too well with the rest of the arsenal squad. He plays like he does for Denmark when he plays for the league cup team, so again it could be not getting on with our first team or not having the confidence when he isn’t the main man.

  19. Pedro

Agreed Paulinho… you don’t make it into Mourinho’s premiership winning defence if you are shite… He is top draw and I don’t think there would be too many sad faces if he was playing at Arsenal.

    I’m off to bed!

    Have a good evening grovers!

  20. A

Wilshere has played every match he’s been available for, but he’s been in the first team squad a couple of times midweek and with reserve matches usually on mondays noone in the first team squad plays then, and he’s also been with england u17s a couple of times. Wilshere starts for the reserves whenever he’s available. Ramsey seems to be only a first team squad member though and doesn’t ever feature for them

  21. A

anyone on here had anyone they know workmates etc ousted as racists by the BNP membership list being leaked?! just wondering like

  22. avenell

It has got to be better for Wilshere to play at least 10 games for the reserves than to sit and watch the first team from the bench.
If Wenger has no intention of playing him why sit him on the recaro?

  23. A

Wilshere has played in 3 of the 6 games in the league for the reserves this season, and played in the friendly last night, the rest of the time he’s been in the full squad or on international duty. Obviously wenger would consider playing him if the game suited him coming on. He’ll learn very very little from the reserves, his development and integration into the first team will be helped much more by travelling and training with the first team week in week out, than by playing 90 mins for the reserves. Just travelling and being on the bench is a good experience for kids. Wilshere is considered a first team player now, he trains with the first team, and doesn’t play for the youth teams anymore. He’s the only first team squad member who still plays for the reserves though.

  24. BOY BETTER KNOW

i think arsenal should consider offering ROY KEANE yes ROY KEANE the new manger position at arsenal..it makes sense

  25. Maciek

Even if buy some quality players in january( and I hope we will), they will not help us straight away. They need time. And it’s all Wenger’s fault. He had a whole summer to make up his mind and buy quality players. He is a scrooge. He bidded 9 mln. for Zapata, when the asking price was 15 mln., he refused to pay 14 mln. for Alonso and to pay Arshavin 80000 per week. He refused to gave Newcastle Senderos and to take Given. Villa payed 8 mln. for Cuellar and City 7 mln. for Kompany and he just says that he was unable to spot and bring a quality defender. He refused to pay a couple of milion more, and now we will lose 30 milion or even more because of CL football and first of all- because of his stubborness.
    Arsene-PLEASE GO!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. Maciek

    BOY BETTER KNOW
They will never appoint Keane as our new manger, because he is a winner, and would demand money for transfers. Can You imagine our board giving him 50-60 mln. to spend? Sunderland spended more money then we. We have just became a joke of a Club. Sad reality.

  27. Maciek

Nothing, that’s true. But at Arsenal You got much better chance to win something that at SFC. We are Arsenal. We can bring almost every player we want. He can’t.

  28. ethangunner

    rico/Franchise

Franchise i agree we are 3 signings away from potentially being more competitive , but can you see wenger signing anyone but 2nd class players ?due to costrs ?
Instead of going for the alonso’s and villas-barrys we need ?
You cannot blame wenger , the scrooge isnt him ! its the corporate umbrella of the board who counter sign checks ! wenger is just hired help ! Its totally unacceptable to blame someone who isnt the owner ! …

Rico , its true i believe wenger would have been better served staying in house and working on some quality signings . But did he really have the money in june ?

i dont think so ! , they would have had to get in to debt to make big signings ..
why wait for hlebs departure prior to nasri’s coming ?
Its facts like that , that show me we have no money reserves ..
and i know geoff will come in and say the club has money ….
So do i, but the question is do i want to spend it ? or is my money better served where it is currently ? ….Making more money ?

the board …..do we trust in wenger that we don’t have to spend another year ?
the answers been yes for them every other season ! why stop believing in wenger now ?

Things wont change , unless you get new thinking at the top !
someone who takes over with the idea’s to win things ..
like all the corporations who have taken over the top 4 …

THEY WANT TO WIN ! – we are happy to flounder !
sorry the board must go ! wenger must stay ..

we need new owners with passion for football .. not a passion for a bank balance !
you all talk about hostile take overs from greedy russians negatively ,but at least they have a fire in there belly too win ! the MF’s we have would rather sit on the fringe every season winning fuck all but over charging us based on former glories !

Every manager wants top top class players ! don’t kid yourself for a minute that wenger wouldn’t want ronaldo – villa – messi – robinho – alonso – ribery ..

He wants them obviously ! who wouldn’t ? whats holding him back ?!

    club restrictions – MONEY !

I dont know a manager alive who wouldn’t want a better class of player !?

  29. Maciek

Ethan- good point and i respect Your opimion, BUT
It was Wenger who never made another bid for Zapata and Arshavin
It was WEnger who did’t make another bid for Arshavin
It was Wenger who told us- trust me and I will deliver
It was him, who said “it’s impossible for a big club to be 3 years without any trophy”,
It was Wenger who let us down
He should just make a press conference and tell us how much money he has on transfers.
If he can’t maker any progerss, he should jus GO!

  30. avenell

Ethan.. The only greedy big shareholder who has cashed in is David Dein, he is the one who has the passion for Arsenal allegedly.

Also earlier you said Arsene is forced to sell players who?

  31. Maciek

Yes, they don’t but even if Youtka a look at our finances You will notice that they are unclear. All You can see is undisclosed(about bought players coaching staff etc.).

  32. Maciek

Don’t trust them. All the say is that they love Arsenal. David Dein loves Arsenal, he even attended reserve matches week and week. And now we don’t even goat a CEO.

  33. avenell

Maciek the board has £400million pounds tied up in Arsenal it is there interests for Arsenal to be successful,
Arsenal are Limited company in England it is illegal for them to cook any books the directors would face a prison sentance.

  34. Maciek

But they are letting us down Mr Avenell. They promised us a star players when we move to the Emirates and we are playing with Eboue and Song aand Diaby.

  35. Maciek

Why pay 40000 per week the sort of players like Denilson, Song, Diaby adn Almunia and 800000(Adebayor) wehen You can pay 20000 more per week to Gattuso, Cana, Van Deer Vart, etc. Our players are overated and most of them just don’t care about our Club. As for our board- they don’t give Wenger enough money because the want to sell soon with a profit. Buy us Villa, Arshavin, Cana, Zapata and we all start thinking that they care about us- supporters, not about our Club’s books.

  36. ethangunner

    Maciek

making bids for them initially showed he had intent …a passion for a class player ..
intent to get a good class of player .. the down fall on every purchase you mentioned was the price was too heavy for him … or the board ..

that must stem back to the board !

him saying …trust me and I will deliver -yes im sure he said that thinking that he would sign someone of quality .
but then the spoken price of spending figures went down from 70 mil
    too 35 mil ..
too we can afford 1 class player…

then after that time he just declined too comment .
and the proof was in the pudding that we had to balance the books again on IN’s V OUT’s

if anything it was another year we made a profit from transfers AGAIN ! ..

the question we asked pre – season was where is all this money going ?
i think the question still stands ..

it dont go in wengers pocket ?! does it ?
it goes to the owners ..

  37. avenell

    Maciek..
Chelsea are £600 millon pounds in debt and cannot even buy the chips at there training ground.

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/2008/11/16/chelsea-planning-to-charge-players-for-canteen-food-to-cut-costs-exclusive-115875-20899815/

Liverpool owners need £400 million pounds before Jan or the banks can repossess Liverpool.
Man U are £700million pounds in Debt and they have there money in uncontrolable hedge funds.
We are not that badly off if we wait..

  38. ethangunner

    avenell

the invicibles over 3-4 years .. plus every other man and his dog who wanted to leave ..
we didnt replace any of them other than hleb ..

  39. ethangunner

    avenell

wait ? at what price champions league football ?
we are already the most expensive ticket in the EPL !
you cannot keep prices up for watching crap ? can you ?

we cant wait or people will feel like they are being ripped off … get disgruntled and not come back

  40. Maciek

We all talk about Chelsea and Manchester but guys can You honestly tell me that such a bug club like Mu or Liverpool( chelsea are a small club) will go bankrupt?

  41. ethangunner

    avenell

roman would pay 1 billion dollars for the notoriety , he loves the fame ! thaksin did it for fame too !
.. we is not worried about money ..
plus if he sold his players off avenell he wouldn’t be in as much debt as you think !

  42. avenell

Ethan Are you saying that Wenger was forced to sell?
    Henry,
    Gilberto,
    Hleb,
    Flamini,
    Ljungberg,
    Pires,
because the way I read it most wanted to leave or Wenger chose to sell…

  43. Maciek

They told us, that Emirates will allow us to spend big and bring many quality players. If our debt is bigger than expected, we should stayed at Highbury.

  44. avenell

Macriek most of the board own Arsenal so how can they be sacked?

Ethan Chelsea can he sold for what Abramovich is owed but they spend more money than they make so it’s debateable if they can keep there success up with a lack of income.
and if the new owners borrow the money that debt has to be paid.

  45. ethangunner

they just need a certain % of shares maciek before 1 share holder can mount a take over .
He would in affect over throw the current chairman …
Usmanov is the closest too that mile stone .. and as the clubs prestige is falling day by day , it will make Usmanov’s dream of a take over more a reality .. thats what geoffs post is about ..

I think they will sell controlling shares to krankie before they let the russian mount a take over .
but its all a big chess game ..

and keeping money inside the club instead of spending keeps the capital of the club up !
its like anything if you have a fat bank balance the club as an asset is naturally worth more on paper ..

its like owning a private company yourself and putting 10 million into the businesses bank account , over night the company on paper is worth 10 million more than yesterday ..

and becomes more lucrative for re-sale ..

  46. avenell

Maciek we haven’t quite finished the move yet 1 more year and the apartments at Highbury will be sold then you can have a valid point.
Also who could have predicted this credit crisis The Goverments or the banks didn’t so how was Arsenal supposed to?

  47. avenell

A club in the Champions League is worth far more than a club out of it so it is in the shareholders interest to be in it..
So they still need to invest in players…

  48. Maciek

Thanks for Your responses Avenell and Ethan.
I’m afraid that we have became a joke clube. Remember, Wenger offered 9ml for Zapata, but he knew that the asking proce was 15 milions. So why he even bothered. wasn’t is disrespectful to Udinese. And even Inler didn’t want to came here, and between 1998 and 2005 everyone wanted to be a part of this great team and Club. Sad reality. If we lose against ManCity na dChelsea and probably we will, it will be really hard to take 4th spot.

  49. avenell

Maciek We haven.t become a joke club we are the 2nd richest in the world in turnover..
We just don’t go into as much debt as other clubs are prepared to do.
One day the debts will have to be repaid and then Arsenal will sit on top.

Just be patient we will get there..

  50. Maciek

We have been patient for 4 years amd all we can see is Eboue the pass master and Diaby a man with no position on the field. 2 big transfers can raise players and fans morale, just ask MU supporters.

  51. Seb

Well said ethan, glad someone else is laying the blame at the feet of PHW and chums. They should be pushing Arsene to spend not just saying to the media ‘oh there’s money there if he wants it’, and I reckon there’s more going on behind the scenes than we know about.

Wenger has spent money in the past, admittedly he has only spent over £10m on six players if I remember rightly and one of those is Theo counting in the add-ons to the deal, although I see from the link below that Southampton accepted £9.1m in f&f settlement due to finances. Wiltord Henry Reyes Hleb Nasri are the others. He does prefer to make money on transfers before he spends it, this is undeniable – the classic example being between summer 1999 and summer 2001, when with the ~£45m made from the Anelka and Overmars/Petit sales (plus many other sales) he spent over £50m in two years. And that doesn’t even account for the £14m on Jeffers and Wright.

This is a quality google spreadsheet of all our transfers under Wenger, it’s being updated regularly, credit goes to MDGoonah41 and Meatwad from the Arsenal Mania forums: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=piruthZqw9z7KPOQuZ0P6Gg

Every summer was a joy for gooners back then, because he was finding gems everywhere and pulling out big signings from his magic hat. Remember summer 1997, signing seven players at once I think it was, Nine in the end checking the spreadsheet. And between 1998 and 2001 we brought in so much quality, Freddie Thierry Lauren Bobby Sylvain Edu Gio Sol…. and we all know where that got us.

God I want that feeling again, and people say ‘oh you’re just spoilt by past success’, well we have the same manager the same board more or less and we are supposed to be making even more money than we ever have, so why can’t we have those times back again? All it needs is for the board to sanction and endorse two or three TOP quality signings to inspire and lift the whole squad, the kids are great, with role models they will be even greater, come on Arsenal you know it makes sense!

  52. Seb

yeah it’s a really good one isn’t it, credit to the guys I mentioned above though, I just posted the link! Useful thing to have bookmarked though when you need to find out who was signed when etc.

  53. kelsey

Seb,very useful indeed,so we have spent fuck all this summer.Does the Bentley sale iclude the additional amount we got when he moved to spurs, because i cant read all of the outgoings.

  54. Seb

Anyway work beckons and all the grovers are still in bed it would appear, so I will leave with another stunning analogy.

Arsenal at the moment is like a school with a headmaster and hardly any teachers. The headmaster desperately wants the pupils to do well, but without sufficient teachers the pupils are deprived of positive role models who know their subjects and can pass on their experience. The only teachers we have at the moment are a Professor of Marine Biology from Manchester, a Professor of Athletics from Ivory Coast, a Professor of Sports Related Injuries from the Czech Republic and a Professor of Having A Strop In The Canteen/Kicking Advertising Hoardings/Sitting On The Pitch In A Sulk/And Generally Looking After His Own Interests from Paris via London. There is also a newly qualified Professor of Football from the University of Barcelona, but rumour has it that he is considering a move back to his previous employers.

    have a good day grovers!

  55. kenny smith

thank god we never signed De La Red in the summer. he had a heart attack last month!

apparently Wenger wants to sue the FA for walcotts wages the whole time he will be out injured

  56. ikon

    roy keane to manage arsenal???????????

do u know where u r headed upto to bbk???

Arsene Wenger is the best we ever will have.

Simply put it will not be as easy as it was a decade ago when only one team won. Seeing the premier league table, i see only a 4 point diff between 10th and 20th positions. Hull will wear down and only remaining will be Villa along side big four. Except chelsea none of the team will have it easy.

Chelsea will win the title even if we win all matches from here i bet. Hence please guys be realistic, a buy or two wouldnt have changed how shitty denilson plays or how fabregas has suffered due to lack of able partners.

Our realistic target shud be the carling cup which i will be dissapointed if we dont win, and the champions league. those two trophies would be good enf for me.
