So no Keown, no defence then? It has to be you, djou-rou!

by & filed under Uncategorized.

That by the way was a song in the Jimmy Cagney film, the Roaring Twenty’s. It has to be you- ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh. And I loved Jimmy Cagney.

Tony Adams has said that, ‘I think Martin is feeling that sitting on the sofa at Match of the Day and Football Focus is the way forward’ Ooh that’s a bit bitchy! So if that’s the case then it means he won’t be joining us unless it’s as a part time defensive coach.

If that’s the case then what will happen with our woeful defence? Coming up to the big game this Saturday I’d like to think he plays his best options in there and that has to be Djourou and Gallas.

Why the boss is so ridiculously stubborn when it comes to Johan versus Song is beyond me, even a blind man who is president of the Alex Song fan club can see who is the better option.

We’ve never conceded when Djourou has played and against Fernabache he looked like he’s been there all season.

Wenger’s belligerence is beyond me, stubborn can be an admirable trait but stupidity isn’t. It’s a stupid trait. Play Johan in there and at least the rest of the team and 56,000 fans at the Grove will feel a tad more comfortable.

What to do with the midfield, me; if fit, I would go with Nasri Cesc Ramsey Theo and put Vela up top with Bendtner or Diaby up top Vela and use Bendtner as an impact sub.

I suspect Diaby will make up a five man midfield and he’ll play him in the hole. I would like to see Jack Wilshere get 20 minutes, he could be to us what Rooney was to Everton that fateful day when we lost our unbeaten record to the young Shrek like creature.

We are light on the ground with forwards so that’s a poke in the eye for all those who said in the summer, we don’t need to buy another forward, that includes me! It shows you how many players you need in a squad that’s in the Champions league these days.

Have a great day Grovers, tomorrow is the decider, well for us anyway.

    Happy birthday Wrighty!
I’HE GOT ONE QUESTION. PLEASE RESPONSE. Many of You think that move to the Emirates was unnecessary, because of lack of atmosphere and founds for transfers. For me is really hard to decide. My question is- if there was any chance and possibility to make Highbury bigger to extend it’s capacity. And is there any chance to do the same with Emirates. PLEase response!!

  2. dennisdamenace

Chipo – Was you there after the Spudz game??

I try desperately to stay inside, for the views! But end up outside most times as it gets seriously heaving in there………

  3. dennisdamenace

Oi! Less of the old Doubleg, i prefer experienced, well rounded, mature………oh bollox who am i kidding, old fuckers it is then!!

  4. Chipo

there was no space to make highbury bigger- every possibility was looked into.. i dont think anyone wanted to knock highbury down.

as for emirates, i guess there is an option to expand, but to be honest i can’t see it happening. 60,000 is more than enough.

DDM- i never go inside unless its to get another San Miguel!

  5. no.1 goon

I can understand people thinking we will get beat,
what i cant understand is how people think we will throw in the towel and just get walloped.
i can tell you know, them players will give there all not to lose to the manc-scum.
im putting my faith in that we will win tomorrow and we will shut up our critics.
i still think this side is being made to look a lot worse than what it actually is!

  6. dennisdamenace

I managde to do a whole bottle of the stuff after the Spudz game, then spent £55 on a black cab home, as i was in too much of a mess to even attempt a train, fucking 4-4 arghhhhhhhhhh………….

  7. Michael Pittordis

    Thats the spirit No1 Goon!!

All this doom and gloom is way over the top…..you’d think we had lost our last ten games from the general reaction.

We will win tomorrow. I have a very good feeling about this game.

I had a bad feeling before the spuds game…and look what happened…didnt lose, but it DID feel like defeat. I have the opposite feeling for tomorrow though, we will step out at the Emirates and play like we know we can….and WIN 2-0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Arsenal Tom

Vieira was sent off after a spat with van Nistelrooy in September 2003 but claimed the Dutchman overreacted.
The Frenchman said: ‘We played at Manchester and I was sent off during the game because I made a tackle and Van Nistelrooy acted like he was making a movie.
‘I got really frustrated about it and wasn’t happy at all.
‘After the game, I saw him next to the coach and we exchanged a few words. That was quite funny.’
Vieira also had an angry exchange of words with United defender Gary Neville which sparked a rumpus in the players’ tunnel at Highbury in February 2005.

It also sparked a heated argument between club captains Vieira and Keane.

‘I played with Roy Keane so many times, but the story that comes to my mind straight away is the argument we had at Highbury before the game in the tunnel,’ said Vieira.
‘I remember saying a few words to Gary Neville because he was after Robert Pires every time.
‘So I had a few words before the game and, of course, Roy Keane came to defend his own players.
‘There were a few words going through the tunnel and of course some intimidation.
So that was quite exciting and quite good.’

please come back!!! player coach all day long

  9. dennisdamenace

Anyhoo, gotta dash, gotta date with destiny, aka fecking shopping, be back on later today though if anyone’s about……………..chamon mutha funglers!

  10. no.1 goon

michael all the dooms getting on my nerve’s,
most people are just jumping on the bandwagon.
come on arsen, show them you are the master!

  11. Geoff

Hi all, I’m back and back to moderate! I noticed a few ding dongs and a bit of slagging, I’ll leave it there, you know who you are, remember we don’t call each other wankers, that’s reserved for Song.

    Happy birthday Wrighty!

    Where the fuck is Pedro?

  12. marylandgunner

I like the results of the poll, DJ all day long. The question is whether or not he will play him. I would like to think so, but the reality of the situation says Silvestre.

On a different note, just got to my hotel in London. Getting ready for tomorrow’s game. I can’t wait!

  13. no.1 goon

i need to know has wenger ever been made a sir?
i know he got a mbe,but did he get the sir honour?
and how do you become a sir?
    just a debate at work.

  14. charybdis1966

    Maryland – it’s because he’s not British – that’s a critical difference. As Sir Alex Funguscum is a jocko(Scottish).

  15. Geoff

You have to be pat of the British Empire and Commonwealth. You qualify Maryland, we own you again now that Obama got in don’t we?

  16. no.1 goon

    fergie’s not english?
so it must mean you have to be british.
mbe where did i get that one from?
    thanks maryland gunner

  17. marylandgunner

Let me tell you . . . as a Yank, and having President Bush in office for the past 8 years . . . ouch. Obama winning is huge, and not just for us.

Let me tell you, it is an exciting time to be living in the US.

  18. charybdis1966

No Maryland – you can be not English but still British(e.g. welsh, Scots, Northern Irish), just a pedantic point;eg. Martin O’Neill can be made a Sir.

  19. Geoff

Obama has relatives every where, Kenya, Indonesia, West Ham, somewhere in the middle east, at least he’s not claiming to be Irish, like the last 10 have.

  20. marylandgunner

It points you in the right direction. On a different note, I have never been to the UK, and I have to say, I came in on a lovely day. What a great city. I am about to head out with the Mrs. for a bite to eat. Our plane had “issues” and caused us to be late by 2 hours. I could eat a house.

  21. marylandgunner

Chary, you are right, and specifics are important. Obama drew rock star crouds throughout the entire primaries. It was truly an amazing site.

At his acceptance speech, over 1 million people gathered to hear him speak. That is simply amazing.

  22. avenell

When England win the world cup with Almunia in goal,,

Can the make the Spanish waiter a “sir” like they will the rest of the team?

  23. rico01

    Afternoon All,

dennis, what you wrote earlier about Aw not having funds – your source must be very close to the club, and I for one have no problem with believing it. something like that has crossed my mind before, purely because history proves AW has spent money – Henry, Paddy, Petit, Overmars, Freddie, Reyes, Gilberto – any others, why now would he suddenly change his approach – because he has no money.!

If it is true, I am very surprised he has stayed so long with us. But I dont think he would leave for an EPL club, well, I hope not anyway

The board are bad to tell us otherwise, maybe thats why the Eldeman, what ever his name was was hoofed out, and no wonder DD was in favour of a take over…

2-1 – 3-2 tomorrow, home win though for me… My sister is a Manure follower and she reckons Manure will win 6-0!! ( What does she know, she is just a girl!! ;) )

  24. Geoff

Chary Great Britain does not include Northern Ireland, that’s the UK, but Edmund Hilary got knighted for climbing Everest and he’s from New Zealand.

That tosser Geldolf got an honourary one but he’s Irish so he can’t call himself sir.

  25. Chipo

    Geoff-

i voted for Song cos i knew it would annoy you, and the ‘wanker’ comments were about everyone being mass debaters *bdom chisssssh*

  26. marylandgunner

Avenell, how crazy would that be . . . Almunia in an England jersey. My sister keeps on insisting that Almunia makes the best meat ball’s. He looks like he would be a great cook.

  27. stu

Wenger splashed he cash on Reyes and look how that turned out. Hardly motivation for Wengwer to splash the cash again but he still does need to spend something of note.

  28. Geoff

Maryland, only in America, we don’t hero worship our politicians like Americans do. Obama has been banging on about change for two years now and in his acceptance speech the first thing he said was ‘I may not do it this year, maybe not this term’… So no change then!

The USA were never going to put a Republican in 3 times on the trot, Bush twice, before that Clinton twice (Democrat) they just take it in turns. Obama will get two terms, still it has to be better than Hilary eh!

  29. charybdis1966

Chipo, I’m sure Wiltord was well over £7m.
Hiya Rico – nice to see you, it must be annoying to have a mankskummer as a sister.
Geoff – You’re probably right there “Sir” is not for UK nationals – only British, with the various exceptions to prove the rule. Not sure why Geldof got it – he should have it strippped from him for inflicting his ghastly daughters on the world.

  30. Bren

Actually, Obama does have Irish connections, Moneygall, County Offaly. On his mum’s side of course.

The Irish PM (from county Offaly), has already extended an invitation !!

Good feeling about tomorrow, I think the players will respond, especially Cesc.

  31. Geoff

Well bren they reckon we all came from a gene pool of 6 so we’re all related, unless you believe in the bibles and such, then it was two!

  32. rico01

Henry cost 10.5 M, Hleb was quoted as being near 10.3M ??

According to some reports anyway, and in 1999/2005 respectively, that was big money imho

  33. insidealbania

DDM – Has this insider of yours said anything else about the situation? I mean is AW thinking of leaving the club in the summer? Would he like a change at the top or even ownership? And how long do the board want to continue with this fucked up situation??

  34. marylandgunner

Geoff . . . philosopher, Gooner, political guru . . . what don’t you like to debate on. We don’t idolize our leaders . . . rather the majority of us are so sick of the way things are with Bush. Trust me, if you lived here, you would hear the bitching and complaining.

Let’s just say, President Bush found a way to drive a thriving economy into the ground. Change has been whispered for some time, but now we can be excited about something. We have the hope that the last 8 years are not the future 4 we face.

    Times are a changin.

P.S. I wouldn’t hero worship Brown either . . . he’s not that kind of guy. Blair maybe.

  35. rico01

Hi Chary – it sure is, she is a Reading fan really, but used to fancy George Best, I thought she may grow out of it ;) Then, she followed Chelsea, and yes, only because she thought Jose was dishy – she is so fickle :)

rico- the only player in that list who cost over 7m was Reyes… its hardly breaking the bank is it

come on guys pay attention i was talking about that list!

  37. Chipo

well i just saw those names and didnt really think that those players were wenger spending big!

i am well aware that we have signed more than one player over 7m in wengers time…

anyway, my humblest apologies for any offence i might have cause on account of my foolish behaviour :-)

  38. Chipo

so who is going to the game tmr, and where are they sitting?

i’m in row 18 right behind the goal, looking forward to seeing the net bulging when song hits a 40yard winner!

  39. Odub

    Lady & Gentlemen!!!!!

I have returned from my sojourn to the local public house, and must say I received a massive shock today…..They had 2 choices of peroni! NO LIE.

They had the normal stuff, and A peroni reserve which was 6%, I’m sure you know which one yours truly went for!!!!

    I suddenly fell rather liberated….. I still however think we’ll draw 2-2 tomorrow! :)

  40. Arsenal Tom

odub u sir are a scoundrel… i only normal peroni!!!

rico… so was it the stud that is arsene wenger that lured u into supporting the arsenal?

  41. Geoff

    Cousin Bren, I like it!

Maryland nice one! what I meant was the crowd out and chanting for both sides, same with Hilary, fuck you wouldn’t get us doing that for politicians, you lot did the same for the Austrian Terminator Arnold, when he was going for governor.

I spend a lot of time in the States, I have really good friends there, so I know the feelings, but I think Blair and Brown are embarrassing cunts that have robbed us blind over the years.

The only politician I’ve ever met was Cecil Parkinson, and I never would whoop and cheer for him, even if he bought me 10 pints.

They are all necessary evils and wankers.

Arsenal on the other hand are worth going to see and cheer for. When describing me you forgot to say heroic, witty and a leader of men.

  42. Odub

    ATom

As I have stated previously, these things gave to be done old bean,.
I was just lucky that the rather fit barmaid asked me which one I wanted, at which point time stood still as I’d never realised there was more than one!! :)

    Geoff,

    How are you sir?

Was beginning to wonder if you and young Pedro had abandoned ship today!

  43. Seb

Could be another 6-1 Stepanovs & co 2001 debacle tomorrow lunchtime – unless big JD plays, in which case we will win 1-0 with a Diaby thunderbolt just before halftime and an incredibly unlikely but welcome backs to the wall second half performance.

No pressure Wenger, but just pick the man.

  44. Geoff

Odub I’m tip top thank you sir, I hope you can get around the internet problem, this site will be a poorer one without you!

Fuck knows where Pedro is, I think he’s on his way to some concert, needs to get his priorities right me thinks.

Any win would do me Seb.

  45. Odub

    AW’s team for tomorrow

    Almunia
    Kolo Silvy Gallas Clichy
    Nasri Cesc Song Denilson Diaby
    Bendtner

    My team would be

    Fab
    Gallas JD Silvy Clichy
    Diaby Cesc Kolo Nasri
    Bendtner Vela

  46. Arsenal Tom

odub… so not only do u have multiple peroni’s you have attractive females serving?? i got served by a man with huge sagging man breasts …. there is no justice

  47. Bren

Like your team Odub – especially Kolo in midfield and JD at the back. Much more presence to the team

Might have swapped Ramsey for Diaby ?

  48. Odub

    Cheers Geoff,

And the only reason they’re doing all this is because some of the twunts in the company spend all day on sodding facebook! now they’ve ruined it for everyone else cheers!

    Seb,

3 recent Arsenal games I’ve only ever seen once and have no interest in seeing again.

    1. the game you mention above – Stepanovs & Luzhny (who’s fcking idea was that?!!)
    2. The FA cup final where that fcking twunt Owen scored 2 goals in the last 5 minutes
    3. The 4-0 V Liverpool with the crouch hatrick…nuff said

  49. Odub

dont think Theo will be fit. also thought Diaby wouldnt get bullied or barged over as much as say Ramsey. As we know the mancscum always turn up with that in mind!!

  50. Chipo

Odub ive got a few more to add to that list:

    - losing 4-2 at home to the mancs- john o shea scored the 4th (think i just did a little vomit in my mouth)

    - champions league v liverpool last season

    - Birmingham v Arsenal last season

  51. Seb

yes those are three nice ones Odub, I would add any Liverpool game with that crackhead Fowler playing, he used to get one over on us on a regular basis.

But I suppose reminiscing about legendary defeats is not the best way to psych ourselves up for a big game against United really

  52. Seb

oh and any games where Sheringham scored, god I hated that man, in fact that would make a good poll Geoff, the opponent you loved to hate the most ^^

  53. Odub

    ok, this isnt helping.

How about we do top manc home defeats we’ve handed out under AW.

    1. 3-2 with David Platt stealing it
    2. 3-2? With Ljunberg’s debut goal
    3. 1-0 With TH14′s wunder goal
    4. 3-1 with Barthez’s 2 gaffs gifting TH14 2 goals!

  54. charybdis1966

Was Platt’s header really from outside the area ? I remember it followed a corner from the left in front of the north bank. Defi nitely outside the GK’s area in anycase – an old fashioned towering header which we need more of..

  55. Arsenal Tom

teddy fucking sheringham… what a cunt, i see that bloke almost every week at some place or another and every time he’s got that smug fucking grin on his face

  56. Arsenal Tom

odub… those were the days… what a total and utter cunt nistle was/is… i loved parlour giving him a little slap at the end and him looking like someone had stabbed him!!!

    fucking magic

  57. Arsenal Tom

chipo… but how beautiful to see it… can you imagine it now? watching aprlour and everyone shouting at nistle calling him god knows what… the only person who would do it now is cesc and i cant see that being for much longer

  58. Odub

footballers I wouldnt mind giving a right kicking

    1. Sheringtwat
    2. Collymore
    3. Fowler
    4. Barton
    5. Gary Neville
    6. Bellamy
    7. Phillip Neville
    8. Van Horseface
    9. Peter Reid (For letting a fat argy go past him TWICE!)

  59. Odub

I know that game ended 0-0, but it felt like a win, especially after horseface missed that pen!! And we went the whole season unbeaten despite the 50 mtach ban for Lauren, Parlour, Keown and cashley!! ha ha!!

  60. Geoff

Got to tell you the worst I’ve ever felt and we didn’t even lose, last week against the spuuds, horrible. All Wenger’s fault, I hope he makes substitutions soon if we need then and not when it’s too late, and not at all if we don’t.

  61. Arsenal Tom

theres been allot of wenger chat as well today on the arsenal site..

‘i would swap jobs with anyone else’ and all that crap!!!

funny after what DDM said earlier!! someones been reading le grove and reporting back!!!

    0-0 2mo

  62. avenell

Wrighty ,,, I have just had a look at the Spud attendance thing, and the tossers reckon 32,000 came up as the attendance on the scoreboard,

I’ve just had a feeling you might post as a wind up on your blog and I’d hate to see the Spuds giving it the big un and it wasn’t 16000.. ;)

  63. Wrighty7

I remember earlier in the season during the Fulham V Arsenal game I had to do a fucking airport run!

I had to take THE MOTHER-IN-LAW and her new muggy Boyfriend who “apparently” was a Gooner.

Anyway, I watched the first half down the boozer with the old man and Arsenal were losing. I had to pick up the tossers at half-time and listen to the rest on the radio on the way to Gatwick.

I swear I could have killed my mum-in-law. I was getting wound up because Arsenal were losing and she kept saying “Its only a game, are you really that bothered?” OVER and OVER again.

She was lucky that she wasn’t thrown out on the M25! To top it off, Arsenal lost 1-0 and she told me to drop her off at south Terminal, when she needed the north!

    Very testing times!!!!!!!!!!!

  64. ethangunner

    Geoff
    i felt worse …. V the spud C.C knockout last season !
i was ropable for days after that !

    i can handle a draw .. ( after a few days )
but to go down like cheap ho’s in that fashion ,
coupled with the spuds celebrating for days after …

that sucked the fat one !

  65. Chipo

This is the squad for tomorrow:

Arsenal (from): Almunia, Fabianski, Diaby, Sagna, Fabregas, Toure, Nasri, Gallas, Vela, Walcott, Denilson, Ramsey, Song, Silvestre, Wilshere, Gibbs, Djourou, Clichy, Bendtner.

  66. charybdis1966

Ethan – I couldn’t find the link – what time yesterday was the post ?

But I’ve always wanted one of those light brown colonial warrior jackets – they looked cool for casual wear or if I ever go to another sci-fi convention again.

A friend of mine met the man DB last Saturday at the Ricoh arena in Coventry – wished I could have gone !

  67. Geoff

Ethan I think I expected to lose thhat with the team he picked, Wrighty I think you need help mate, that or 10 pints! Where the fuck did you find the cat video??? and why?

  68. kelsey

Geoff did you think it was all bollocks about the post i left this morning about the bob wilson interview, where he thought wenger would leave at the end of the season, the one main challenge being the CL trophy.Maybe he really wanted those 3 experienced players but the money wasn’t there. This could be true.Anyway not my opinion, just something i listened to.

  69. alex

So, RVP is suspended, Ade is out, Nikki B is not clinical enough to lead a 4-5-1. looks like Vela could be looking at his first start with Nikki B. Sign of hope? or desperate cry for help? what do you all think?

  70. Geoff

Kelsey, yeah I think the story is all bollocks, though frankly it wouldn’t bother me if he did go now.

Kingsley interesting but I’m not sure I believe it do you? looks a bit like Nasri, I’d sooner we signed Kana and Zapata.

  71. Stu

Wengers main problem is that once he leaves Arsenal he is probably going to retire all together, certainly in terms of management. And he knows that this is his last opportunity to win the CL, that which has eluded his grasp throughout his whole career. He is throwing all his eggs in one basket and doesnt want anything but it.

  72. Confidentgoner

    Folks,

Why not solve our midfield and defensive problem by playing Toure as DM who will really mop in front of defence, allowing either a galas Djoru or Gallas Sylvestre partnership.

    Fabianski / Alumina

    Sagna Djourou Gallas Clichy

    Toure (Ramsey)

    Theo (Ebue) Cesc Diaby (Nasri)

  73. avenell

Perhaps we haven’t appointed a CEO, as Wenger wants that position next season, and he trains a new manager up (DB10) ..

  74. kingsley

if that lenny story were true surely some other news sources would have picked it up? however he’s small, lightweight and similar to what we have so i guess its a done deal!

  75. rico01

    Evening – yes I am back…….. ;)

Tom, you are so naughty about our fine Manager, but I have to confess, Arsene had nothing to do with me supporting our fine club, as good a looking that he is!!!!!

Charlie George did it for me :) But dont tell gnarley ;)

Those were the days………….. My friend, we thought would never end, those were the days….. you oldies know the rest..

Those days, WILL BE BACK :)

  76. Confidentgoner

We can do a lot with this line up

    Fabianski
    Sagna Djourou Gallas Clichy
    Toure
    Theo Cesc Nasri
    Diaby
    Bendtner

If we are loosing change to a more attack minded formation. Dennilson will help out in an attacking formation, while Ramsey Playing behind Bent. Theo should play to give us an outlet and pin Evra from his foraging runs. Tho can switch with Nasri if need be

    Fabianski
    Sagna Djourou Gallas Clichy
    Dennilson
    Theo Cesc Nasri
    Ramsey Bendtner

  77. kelsey

well that makes sense avenell going on what bob wilson said.so the board and wenger are all lying.what a fucking shambles.

  78. paul

Ive had a really shit week at work and watching Arsenal so i voted for Song who i can’t stand and it made me feel better, does that make sense.
