We’re all Arsenal fans, that should be the message.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

So yesterday we had a swipe back at the Wenger comments and said what we felt but today I read something from one of the supporters groups that likes to think they’re the only people that sing at the ground, when I got to the piece that referred to Arsene as ‘the great man’ I stopped reading it, enough said.

Let me begin by saying this, Le Grove has never, ever said Arsene Wenger should go, spend yes, but go, no. So please any of you out there that for some strange reason that think that, please think again.

I get sick of listening to certain supporters who think they’re better than others, they’re not, they’re no different to the next fan, an Arsenal fan is by definition a fan, you can’t get better than that, so a message to you who think you sing better because you have no money and say fuck every other word, you’re no better than people who don’t sing as much but have more money, they probably worked harder than you did.

It’s funny, our manager earns around £6 mil a year, but he’s not a prawn sandwich merchant is he? He deserves it, this is the perverse logic employed by the very people who tell us to support other clubs.

Remember the library? We were never any good at singing at Highbury either, those people with short memories just think they did, when you get a small group together like away games or cup finals everyone sings, it’s a way of getting at the opposition in their own ground, I remember Copenhagen, I couldn’t talk for a week after that, we sang ‘one nil to the Arsenal’ all night, same at the FA cups, as I said yesterday, we out sung Liverpool in Cardiff.

I think the only way to do it properly and in unison will be to put the words on the screen like they used to at England matches, then we can all sing together.

When we had a ground with distinct ends we used to sing to each other, that always got it going, but that’s difficult to do at the Grove.

I expect the next few matches will be noisy as a point needs to be proved but for the long term I think this is the answer and I will be letting Arsenal know Le Grove’s view.

So Arsene, do something about it, stop whining, be constructive. You are extremely lucky your team plays to capacity crowds, they’re all Arsenal fans don’t knock them, they’ll all be there long after you’ve gone.

Finally a word to the groups that think they’re better supporters than people who don’t sing, have more expensive seats and probably more money, your not. Without the people in the ground that spend all that money, you wouldn’t have the team or the manager you currently have, they’re all fans, they come in all shapes and sizes, all colours and all with varying bank balances, but they all support Arsenal, so lay off.

Billy having a quiet fag was funny, Pedro and I were only last week having a booze versus fag debate, how funny was that!

Not a lot to say about the game today but I will cover it tomorrow, today is Saturday and of course a school holiday so you know what to expect.

Until tomorrow Grovers.

Does anyone know who that nutcase was with a voice like a foghorn who used to stand up on his own with his arms outstretched at the North bank end of the East stand and give it the ‘we’re the east stand etc etc’. I would imagine he’s had his voice voicebox removed by now!

  2. Pedro

    Cheers Wrighty!

I’ve just been over to your site! The comments are looking much better now you’ve binned the knobbers! Well played!

I saw someone responded to the Le Grove comment! haha!

  3. Wrighty7

Anyway, have a good evening people.

I’m off out to a wedding reception with the missus, GREAT, I dunno if I can take a night of

“So when are you getting married then Darren?”

I’m just gonna drink copius amounts of Coors Light and sneak out for a cheeky fag with Billy Gallas.

    HA HA

  4. jimmyfingers

Well I mentioned anotherarsenalblog and that you sounded exactly like it and then you said you contributed to a blog I put 2 and 2 together, my bad. But as borne out by the rest of the reaction on this blog your shiney happy people version of the terraces isn’t a popular one. Fans are intitled to air their grievances and players should have to listen to it if they have performed. As Pedro points out, on the continent they’re far less forgiving

  5. kelsey

Will Hull ever lose, will spurs ever win.No one could write that script.

Best crowd ever heard in recent years was the pompey crowd when we beat them 5=0 or 5=1 at fratton Park, they were unbelievable for the whole 90 minutes.

  6. arsenehollis

Pedro i do contribute on arsenalinsider, I think it is a very good blog too, but i dont see that has any relevance here. I also read this blog every day dude and am open and willing to engage with opinions i may not share, as today. I dont see what writing elsewhere should induce any prejudice, that seems a little narrow and closed shop to me frankly. I come on here, and have commented before, doing so in a friendly and polie manner, so why the assumption that i am somehow ‘diiferent’ for thinking the team deserve some loyalty and wenger whilst not infallible deserves respect for his achievements?

  7. Keyser

I think arsenehollis has made some great points and the sole fact that we are ‘supporters’ of Arsenal should be some sort of guideline to fans who decide that booing is the only right way of showing their displeasure.

How many people actually attended the AGM ? From all reports from the AST and members who were actually there it was an impassioned plea rather than anything else. Why would anyone want to look for negatives and reasons to deride the team and the manager.

It seems pretty obvious that he didn’t mean to criticise the fans and knows that some are disappointed but is simply saying we have a young team who we need to give that extra bit of encouragement to, since he believes that they will come good this year not next and deliver the trophies everyone wants.

How is that a bad thing ? Surely someone must’ve been at the meeting from here ?!

Paulinho -”I think the next month will tell us wether this bunch are worth supporting vocally.”

    You are joking right ?!

  8. Pedro

I didn’t say anything about the blog you contributed on?

Who is disrespecting his achievements? People are just saying they don’t like what is going on now… and a 3 year drought would indicate those feelings are justified. The team are getting plenty of loyalty… 60,000 people turning up every week is a pretty big indicator of that.

Don’t expect everyone to share the same outlook as you when things are not going well… If you just accept averageness and applaud it, good for you. However, most Arsenal fans wont tolerate that any more… which is a fair shout considering the wedge they put into the club.

Building a world class club means you build world class expectations… That isn’t the fans fault is it?

  9. rico01

arsenehollis – are you Reg in disguise ?? ;)

I dont understand about the ‘ i contribute to another blog stuff’ – I think many of us, especially if its quiet, pop off and read Newsnow – I know I do.. And if I want to leave a comment I will, and that is my right, no-one here makes any suggestion that that is wrong. Its a free world, do as you wish, but dont judge, and dont be judged…..

Le Grove doesn’t judge, but the authors and bloggers very often dont agree with me or eachother, but there is a way to put your view accross – and never forget, that view is yours, and someone, maybe everyone will disgaree, and that is their perogative…. But that sets a good debate going, and thats what we all try and do.

I hate the ‘C’ word, but hey, thats just me. I have a choice to stay or go because some others use it, that is their right, but I stay, because I love our club, and Le Grove and I have no right to tell others that that word is not so nice.

I have gone on, but my point is, ‘Freedom of Speech’ – that is Le Grove, and if its not possible to debate with being insulting – why stay??

Hope that all makes sense ?

  10. London

So many people have said that they miss the singing of “We’re the Clock end” We’re the North Bank” etc. Which always created so much atmosphere and if Wenger’s comments are representative of the club and they really do want to do something to improve the atmoshpere then why don’t we simply ask them to put the clock back. It seems so obvious. It would be interesting to see the results of a poll “Would you like to see the clock back, yes or no?

  11. rico01

London – Yes, then I can see when its 10 minutes before the end, so i can leave early for the tube ;) !! ……………………………….

  12. arsenehollis

Rico – im not sure whaqt the C word has to do with all this. Personally im not prudish and wont get offended if called a cunt, i have shouted at sheringham enough times. Not sure who reg is either… please let me know. Im just trying to have a chat and debate matters arsenal.

Pedro – my point is not that you said anything about where i contribute, but rather the fact that i ocntribute somewhere else seems relevant in discussion. This is all under a title “we’re all arsenal fans”, yet i feel that it somehow discredits me that im new here or have views i air elsewhere. In fairness geoff, who wrote this blog, was most treasonable and made the effort to understand what i said and find a middle ground with me.

As for your suggestion that 3 years is a drought or “things are not going well” i would ask you to look again at our record this year and respond to it:

    W10 -D2 -L2

    FOR 38 – AGAINST 9

Im here to have a debate/chat, i think there is an attitude here that excludes people with differing points of view, that seems shallow and worthless to me. If you will treat me fairly and engage then good for you, if not that is an indictment of you not me.

The last 2 paragraphs from keyser make my point well for me.

  13. London

I was raised on the North Bank where I sang my heart out; I moved to the upper East where I still made an effort to give it my all. I now sit in the Upper West around the goal line and it is like a morgue up there. People give me funny looks if I start singing the name of the club my father and my grandfather supported all there lives. It breaks my heart.

  14. Geoff

Arsenhollis Rico is in fact a lady, which explains why she hates the ‘C’ word, I think that’s fair enough.

What we try and do here is debate but not argue.

London I did the same, North Bank, schoolboy enclosure (East) South stand during the rebuild, box for 13 years, West upper finally Executive suite where I got kicked out and then back to West upper, so I think I have been in more seats than any other gooner in history, if you or any fucker can beat that, let me know!

There will be a shed load of Peroni for that person, but I will need proof!

  15. Geoff

Rico by the way I love you, you are the voice of reason on this site, your husband should be proud, if he’s not I should meet him!

  16. London

    Pedro

You have successfully got the ticket exchange up and running. What about getting a season ticket exchange going. Many of us made decisons on where we wanted to sit from a computer vertual image and I am sure that there are quite a few people who would like to swap. If the club are serious about improving the atmosphere there could be singing section. People would only be welcome if they sang.

  17. rico01

London – for sure i was joking, would love it back :)

arsenehollis – all i am trying to say is – why call peaople delusional just because you dont like their opinion, or actions at a game – ie i dont like the ‘c’ word, but i dont have a pop at who has said it, its their right..

Reg – aka Reg Hollis – Sorry, I used to watch The Bill, didnt mean to offend ;)

  18. arsenehollis

RICO – to be honest you have to explain to me why saying an opinion is delusional is in any way rude or offensive. That is as mild a way of saying i cant possibly agree as i can imagine, how anyone who has attended footy games can be so precious, not saying you are, is beyond me frankly. Please enlighten me.

Goeff – as well as my season ticket i take my disabled cousin to games, not a regular every match in the same seat, but i have sat in every side of highbury but the clock end and every side of the new ground but opposite the dugout, never upper tier though, how close does that get me to a case of peroni???

Otherwise, to be frank i dont get why i ahve got so much stick for being new on here and having a different opinion, it is one thing to discuss, another to assume i am different because i blog somewhere else or think differently.

  19. GoonerSupporter

    Geoff,

I have to give credit where it is due. Instead of deleting my earlier post, which you would have done a couple of months ago, you have actually let it go, which is a sign of strength.

Since you also do some good deeds, like the ticket exchange, it appears that you can’t be too bad after all.

    I will leave it there.

  20. Geoff

Gooonersupporter that shows we welcome anyone that doesn’t cause problems, as I said you are welcome!
Arsenhollis not even close son, even the disabled bit only got you into east lower!

If you get stick, it’s not because you have a different opinion, it’s because you’re arguing, chill mate, we’re only here for fun!

  21. Geoff

I’ve watched the Mancs, the Geordies and now the Blackburn game, have you all noticed the empty seats? Arsene, take note, at least we turn up!

  22. Geoff

Anywayt I’m in Spain and about to go out on the piss, please get on, you’re all great people and all Arsenal fans!!!

  23. arsenehollis

geoff – no dude, i have sat in east and west at highbury as a junior gunner, then north bank. My seaosn ticket to emirates is to the right of the dugout, and i have sat as a carer in the red section and by the away fans. Either way i dint exoect a case of beer, i drink cider. Out of pure curiosity, how old are you and pedro?

  24. Geoff

Arsenhollis I have been going to the Arsenal since the 60′s and I am 50, Pedro is in his early twenties and has been going since the Georgie Graham days, whichever way you cut it I still out do you!

  25. Pedro

Arsenehollis, lets talk football. We accept all opinions on here and we don’t care where you contribute…

    On this season.

We’re scoring goals, we’re playing great football at times and players from all over the pitch are chipping in.

    My worries:

Denilson is woefully short of being a world class centre midfielder… with him in the centre, I doubt we’ll win the league but hopefully Diaby will step up and prove his worth.

Song: He is not a centre back yet he is being played in front of JD? I don’t think a player as weak as song should be getting in our first team.

Kolo/Gallas: Not really working, but there isn’t really a solution? He can’t drop Willy G and he wont drop kolo.

We haven’t played anyone of real calibre yet and we’ve already lost 2 points. So your stats make great reading, but they are completely expected.

So overall… I am pleased about how the season is going. We have loads to be excited about and we are very close to competing… but I think we might pay for not reinforcing in the summer.

What are your thoughts? Where do you see it going?

  26. London

Geoff, I have just realised that you must have a place in Spain but as you can’t get Peroni in Spain what is your favourite cerveza? Dos XXs. Have a great night out.

  27. jimmyfingers

Arsenehollis: you actually mentioned you contribute to another blog, I merely said you were banging the same drum as a certain blog that we’ve had grief from in the past. I did apologise for making the wrong connection.

And I don’t think you’re getting a lot of stick, far worse has been dished out here, just that you’re championing an unpopular philosophy so not going to find many allies. In fact I thought you pretty condescending to me so you can certainly dish it out, but it never descending into a squabble. Healthy debate that’s called here

Hull top? I stop drinking and this happens?

  28. London

Nice one Pedro, back to football. Tomorrow is going to be interesting; Wenger should simply swap Diaby for Denilson with Djourou and Gallas or Gallas with Sylvestre but I feel sure that we will get Gallas and Toure and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Nasri drop to the bench to accommodate Denilson.

I don’t share your view that the league is beyond us yet but we will obviously have to beat Chelsea in order to win it and this is where I think an interesting debate lays: who would be you midfield be against Chelsea (Rosicky being still injured) It obviously is going to be Cesc; the question is would play alongside him? It shouldn’t be Denilson so who is left that can defend and act as a shield for the defence?

If he is pivotal helping us beat the chavs then in my opinion he has earned his salary but just to be clear. I agree with you that he should not be picked ahead of Djourou as a CB.

  29. Pedro

    I saw that… oh the irony…

London, I don’t think we are out of the race… I just think it’s going to be really hard.

If Diaby can manage a season of fitness… we could be in business… but that is a big, big ask. Like I’ve said before… can Diaby be disciplined enough to track back?

Am I the only one who thinks he might play a 4-5-1? If it ain’t broke and all that…

I can’t imagine him dropping Nasri? Surely we have to play him? He is one of our stand out performers!

JD JD JD JD JD JD… not Song, please!

  30. avenell

Who thinks Portmouth have a great atmosphere?

To me they seem like a load of retards at a WWE /F evening…

Play up Pompey, Pompey play up… WTF

  31. patthegooner

Is anyone else concerned that Chavski might equal our unbeaten season record this year?

They have had their fair share of injuries but seem to able to grind out results regardless!!

So I am throwing it out there, do you think they can match it?

  32. patthegooner

    Avenell

The atmosphere at Pompey is usually excellent, even beyond the rather wanky play up pompey chant. Remember when we battered them a few years ago

They were 5 or 6 down and still chanting constantly for 90 mins.

  33. avenell

They gave away points to the worst team in the league.. So no..
They won’t lose many though, take JT out and they go to pieces…

  34. patthegooner

I hope so Rasputin I really do!!!

They just seem to have found a knack of spawing results out of nothing, especially at home when it looks like their record is in Doubt. Have Hull been there yet?

  35. Pedro

They wont break our record pat!

They are on a good run for sure, but they wont beat that… too many great teams for that to happen!

  36. Rasputin

How quickly people forget. It is conceivable that another no other team will ever go unbeaten (not in my lifetime anyway) – the ‘Invincibles’ were truly outstanding and they should be recognised by all football fans for that immense achievement.

  37. kelsey

I actually think chelsea will win easily, pool have been riding their luck for most of the season.

Pat i made the same point about pompey 4 hours ago

Pedro have you given choy the night off:)

  38. BOY BETTER KNOW

why the hell did wenger not move for eto when he was up for sale in the summer hes exactly what arsenal are needing a proper world class striker

  39. Keyser

Etoo would have been soo much hassle, doubt he’d have wanted to come anyway, at least Edurado will be back soon.

If Liverpool win tomorrow it’d be a proper shock for Chelsea and probably everyone else and they’re more likely to drop points later on in the title race aswell.

  40. Evo in Oz

    gday all

would have been so much better for newcastle to beat sunderland and make it as tough as possible for the the spuds to get out of the relegation zone!

  41. gnarleygeorge9

….so let me see ;) If Liverworst draw with Roman, & The Arsenal “The Pride of London” can overcome West Ham, (as manure only drew)then the recent debarcles relating to the Hull & Sunderland games will be virtually cancelled out, & we will be back in with a show for the Big One. Now thats something to sing about

  42. Evo in Oz

sure is Gnarley – only disappointment is the game is on too late and its a school night so probably cant watch

  43. gnarleygeorge9

    A message to you Arsene

    “Stop your messing around”

In a nutshell. The more wins (& please make this weekend a win, 0-1 will do this old Choochie Graham man nicely thankyou) the more songs (no not Alex Song Geoff) & the louder they will get, alway to Old Traffic when we claim The Title.

P.S Something tells me Arsene that you, & your faithful fans have a pending date with destiny in Rome this coming May. UNFINISHED BUSINESS!!!!!!

  44. avenell

It’s out of order only GG and Ramos has won trophies for them in the last 17 years.

Ar5ena1 don’t see that much this year ;)

  45. gnarleygeorge9

….I’m gnerally positive on game days. Hope I don’t get it vacuumed out of me for the rest of the season ;)

  46. Paulinho

Adams won’t do that or will he? I don’t think he will.

Not a surprise. Portsmouth have been going stale recently and Redknapp hasn’t looked happy, despite continually saying he’s happy staying at Portsmouth for the rest of his career.

  47. Evo in Oz

The Club can announce that Damien Comolli, Sporting Director, Juande Ramos, Head Coach and First Team Coaches, Marcos Alvarez and Gus Poyet, have left the Club, with immediate effect. We wish them well.

Clive Allen, Development Squad Coach, and Alex Inglethorpe, Youth Team Manager, will take charge for Sunday’s League match against Bolton.

An announcement will be made on First Team coaching staff in due course.

  48. avenell

Tony Adams will be too much of a gamble for the Spuds. the fans won’t accept him like they didn’t accept Georgie Graham the best manager they have had since Bill Nick..

  49. gnarleygeorge9

Spuds on Wednesday, After 90 minutes on high heat @ The Emirates, they will be no more than mashed potatoes :)

  50. Evo in Oz

Graham Roberts is just speaking on Setanta and he said Wenger never leaves anything good to go from The Arsenal, hence him letting Comoli go….

  51. gnarleygeorge9

So does anyone believe that Harry Redneck will see Spuds through an era of Champions of the Premier League, let a lone top 4 finish. Competing with the Big Guns/Gunners in Europe. The man is totally one dimensional, & probably even has Big Tone to thank for the FA Cup.

Poor pitiful Tottenham. While we dine out on 2-5 wins in Europes top flight, etc, they wank themkselves over beating our kids in The Mickey Mouse Cup.

  52. Rob From Aus

I honestly believe that it isnt ramos’ fault, his fucking board sold the team out from under him. Not that im defending anything to do with the spuds. Good post btw very true, we have that same dilemma in australia believe it or not, ze commoner having a go at the loaded fan because he cant be arses singing aloud. So wenger u can get fucked having a go at your england based fans, so they Booed at halftime?! what did u expect constant shoddy football for 3years! poor desicion making with player selection/transfers, who do u think pays your 6million a year> Homo

  53. gnarleygeorge9

    BBK

After the shit they poured on our away fans, etc during the 2nd leg of the MM Cup last year, I think a certain club is owed, Big time. Its pay back time

  54. BOY BETTER KNOW

i cant see him getting a game week in week out at barca where as at arsenal he would him and diaby would be solid in the middle

  55. gnarleygeorge9

Being a Richmond supporter, I quite like seeing the Tigers Roar

evo, round 1 again next year @ The G. 100,000 to see the season opener

  56. LeProf

Wenger must buy new CB. Not one but TWO CBs.

Gallas clearly our WEAK POINT and Toure just past his best. Give Cesc the captain role. WIth Diaby coming and soon Eduardo, we can even switch to 4-5-1 effectively for some games.

The last puzzle is our CB for the treble.

The last icing on cake is Sp*rs being relegated.

  57. ReVELAtion

How can they sack Juande? He was doing a great job! And Redknapp? Leaving pompey who worship him to manage that scum? He must be on crack….

West ham are going to get it later on… Poor gianfranco.. I quite like him…

Wednesday will be a different kettle of fish and we’ll only escape with a narrow win now instead of thumping them to high heaven…

  58. ethangunner

Well even a miracle worker like Juande cannot turn the fortunes of the spuds ..
I think his only down fall is failure to grasp the English language quickly !
blame ramos for poor form when the club basically promoted the selling of keane and berbatov !

Get rid of 2 top 10 strikers to other clubs …
WELL THERE’S YOUR PROBLEM RIGHT THERE !

Right or wrong , sacking managers is becoming the accepted trend in this League ..
Spuds are fast becoming the new Newcastle and Obviously they are under great pressure to get results … well short of God himself i doubt the spuds will find there right coach ..

I feel sorry for harry if he indeed does get scalped … the job is a poison chalice .

  59. Evo in Oz

    * “I am not the Chelsea manager any more and I don’t have to defend them any more, so I think it’s correct if I say Drogba is a diver” – Jose Mourinho comes clean. Or admits he lied before, depending on your point of view.

  60. morrowsbrokenarm

Feck! Just seen the news, I’m so gutted….Juande was sensational. Oh well, ‘Arry is a decent manager, but didn’t Southampton / West Ham go down on his watch?

  61. morrowsbrokenarm

Not just a big club Evo “a Big Big Club” in ‘Arry’s words. Laughed my arse off at that one. When were Tottenhgam last a big club?

  62. morrowsbrokenarm

Pompey fans were idiots the way they took him back after he buggered off to Southampton, so they shouldn’t be surprised at his latest deflection. Can’t see big Tone following suit, i just can’t believe he would do that. He knows better….I hope?
