Cracks start to appear, are you listening Arsene?

by & filed under Uncategorized.

So Arsene Wengers overwhelming favourite Cesc Fabregas has started to criticise his father figure boss, last week was the ‘if I don’t win trophies’ bit, which we all ignored, then Cesc came out and said he intends to fulfil his dreams here.

Today though he says in The Sun:

‘Our squad is a bit short on numbers and we are very young. Behind me there is Denilson, who is 20, or Alex Song who is 21, Theo Walcott is 19 and Samir Nasri 21, It’s hard to imagine a midfield where I am the oldest member, we find it very hard to win matches, as we do not possess enough experience’

Ouch Arsene, the boy you’ve signed three times and extended his contract until the year 4545 and no one knows if man will be alive (there’s a song there) that boy is starting to tell you your experiment isn’t working, not I, but golden boy Cesc!!!

So we here at Le Grove and 99% of you Grovers have been saying now for three years you need to sign some experience, and during that time we have been verbally attacked by legions of AKB’s who vilified us for daring to question the professors cunning plan, we have now been joined by the kid that started the experiment Francesc Fabregas, so AKB children, what do you make of that?

Arsene, what say you? Are you going to make a statement? Saying you can’t afford to buy a decent 25 year old is nonsense because the 3-17 year olds you sign cost the same and they like Cesc will get to 24 and leave the club when they get good.

I think it’s time to re visit your blackboard it’s not working.

Onto Fabio the sell out. I had someone on yesterday called Hugo who told me he was upset that I thought someone of Capello’s standing would be told what to do by the FA and would only play Beckham if he felt he added to the team, I said the FA have told him that Beckham needs to get the all time record.

Well Fabio last night you brought Beckham for a whole two minutes, did that help?

Course it didn’t, you are a sell out, it’s embarrassing and if Beckham had a hair on his arse he’d walk away and show some pride, when he gets the record, I hope he remembers his 2 minute cameos, he didn’t deserve it.

It was fair enough with the 100, but this is just a joke. Next game up is April, he’ll be 6 months older and 6 months more in America, I bet he’ll still be in the squad.

I won’t be writing the next 3 posts as I’m out of the loop, so have fun with Pedro.

In the mean time, let your opinion be known on the Cesc issue in our poll below!

Franchise – I understand what you mean about fight and it’s why if players move on they can go, they mean nothing once their gone, they’re not going to be able to help us and they didn’t want to stay either so good luck to them.

I just don’t trust the way the media can spin things, we saw how much he wanted it against Sunderland.

  2. Wrighty7

    Hi all,

Great post again. I totally agree with it.

I firmly believe that Hleb and all the other fuckers out there doing their best to brain-wash Cesc Fabregas into leaving Arsenal may have finally hit the jackpot. Cesc has had his head turned by the bastards and one man, and one man only can save the day, enter Arsene Wenger.

We Gooners have been saying it for ages, even Le Boss himself said it in the summer and now Cesc Fabregas has stated the bleeding obvious, we lack experience. It’s little wonder Cesc is beginning to listen to other people. It’s up to Mr Wenger to sort it.

I love Arsene and what he has done for Arsenal, he has transformed us but he can be a stubborn man. He has put a huge amount of faith in his young side but Fabregas has admitted it’s hard for such a young side to perform every week.

It’s great that Wenger has such belief in this side but I think he needs to admit to himself that having belief is not always enough. If players like Cesc Fabregas, who is your best player, have doubts then surely it’s time to listen.

Fabregas has a wise head on young shoulders but is this really fair on him? He should be in the side and looking up to others, not trying to help carry players around the same age as him. It’s a lot for such a young man, regardless of how talented he is, to take on.

A whole club and it’s supporters rely on these youngsters, that’s a lot for them to handle. They need guidance and experienced heads around them to help cope with the pressure. If you look at the current squad we are threadbare in this department.

Arsene Wenger and Cesc Fabregas enjoy an almost father-son type of relationship but that doesn’t mean Cesc won’t listen to other people. I’ve no doubt that some of the Spanish squad has put doubts in Cesc’s ear about Arsenal. They will be telling him to come back to Spain, and I bet they are players that Cesc looks up to, players with influence. Who can influence him at Arsenal?

Arsene Wenger should do some listening too. Fabregas’ views should be noticed, after all, he is the one on the pitch. I’m hoping that these comments from Fabregas give Wenger a kick up the ass or I worry if nothing is done then we will be saying adios to our little Spaniard.

  3. kelsey

Odub,I can’t agree with you with regards to not watching us.There will be a decline at all grounds, but not because we might not win anything.A real recssion bites hard and a few people actually benefit from a time of crisis.I believe there is a waiting list of tens of thousands, but don’t be fooled the credit crunch will take it’s toll regardless of how well the club does.

  4. Franchise

i know keyser the bottom line is that we have a good enough team to hang in there until January when I believe Wenger would remediate the situation. It has been revealed that he tried but failed with two or three deadline deals. if top players like Fab are throwing the towel in then what do they expect the fans to do. To be fair WE ARE ARSENAL. Theres no club without us the FANS :)

  5. avenell

Odub ,,, point 1 and point 2 seem to be having there own argument..
Pedro is saying we are seeing fans dropping out.

  6. Keyser

Pedro – LoL calm down dude, I’ve looked at it, i’m not buying any spiel, Wenger said that it’s not just to buy players but to pay for new contracts and extending contracts of the players already at the club.

Just throwing 70 million out as an answer doesn’t tell you much does it, but it says alot when you look across at Chelsea or United and see that 2-3 or their players make up that entire sum in one go, let alone all the contracts of their existing players.

  7. Franchise

i think walcott and Pass Master could play well together. That would probably be our main outlet. The reason being that PM is more comfortable on the ball than sagna

  8. choy

Who do you guys think will start on saturday?

    …..almunia….

    toure djorou silvest clichy
    walcott nasri denilson nasri
    rvp
    …..
    …..
    ….
    ade

  9. avenell

Choy… He will probably move Toure out to the right, and play whoever else is fit in the middle Gallas/Silvestre/Djourou/ Song..

Pedro this Kerrea Gilbert D/D thing is still being reported and I read that he is in court in Jan, I know you removed it, but is there further news or are these reports wrong?

  10. Pedro

Keyser, we’re not asking for Wenger to blow £70million, we are asking him to use his expertise to buy some experience.

ManU’s wage bill was about £2mill less than ours. Liverpool’s is about £17million less and they have Stevie G, Gerrard and Carragher on the wage bill.

  11. Pedro

Someone e-mailed me to say he was breaking up a fight and got embroiled in it… so I am not sure really!

Poor fucker seems to get in trouble a lot.

It never did come out why one of his loans was terminated.

  12. Arsenal Tom

hopefully eboue will go to RB with toure and silvestre… djourou has concussion so id rest him.

    nasri, diabby, cesc, theo
    rvp ade

  13. insidealbania

“We are lucky to be at a club like Arsenal. They prefer to trust in young players and not spend big money. Others can pay whatever they want, but the reality is the truth, we are happy with what we have got. At the moment, we don’t look for what other clubs do. We are just happy the way we are” – Cesc Fabregas, September 26.

  14. insidealbania

“Our squad is a bit short on numbers and we are very young. Behind me there is Denilson, who is 20, or Alex Song who is 21. Theo Walcott is 19 and Samir Nasri 21. It’s hard to imagine a midfield where I am the oldest member. We find it very hard to win matches, as we do not possess enough experience” – Cesc Fabregas, October 16.

  15. Keyser

Exactly and if in his expert opinion someone is not worth the trouble or the money then surely it’s better to wait, he obviously made enquiries for several players, he wouldn’t be much of an expert if he suddenly decided we need to go all out on one player, completely out of the norm.

Things don’t always work out, as for the wage bill there has to be something off about it and before you say the financials on the side don’t tell you much of anything unless your reading something completely different to me, they say they’re for the 06/07 season.

  16. Franchise

pedro isnt the accounts from the last tax year? meaning high earners like freddie and thiery were still on the books. I might be wrong correct me

  17. Doublegooner

Perhaps it is only Arsene that has kept voting NO.

That makes him a deluded fool.

99% of Gooners knew all close season.

  18. Wrighty7

Thanks Pedro, it has to be said.

Going by the comments Cesc made (cheers insideAlbania) I’d suggest that he has been influenced by

    A) some of the Spanish squad whilst on International duty

    B) Hleb the pleb.

  19. insidealbania

Cesc and the rest of the team should concentrate on winning games. How much confidence is him chatting shit to the papers going to give to Nasri, Theo, Rambo, who are all young players. And if he feels there is something wrong then I am sure he knows where AW’s office is and he can take his problem there.

  20. choy

we are becoming a bunch of whingers.. from the captain to the star player..

shut the fuck up and perform on the field!

  21. avenell

If Cesc was at Chelsea or ManU he would have been still sitting on the bench, it was okay when the policy suited him at seventeen.

  22. Pedro

Franchise, yes I think they are. They are the last published accounts. The next set are due soon and they are going to be even better.

Keyser, the wage bill is even lower now and profits are even higher… so you can plead poverty all you like, but the figures say differently. I read we are expected to have a wages to turnover ratio of 40%… one of the lowest in the Prem. So in short, we are making bucket loads.

Wenger’s judgement on whether to purchase or not wasn’t based on current ability of his squad, it was based on potential… offering £10million for Alonso is insulting to say the least… so he didn’t have any real interest in anyone, otherwise he would have purchased.

Blowing it all on one player doesn’t guarantee you anything, but it gives you a better chance.

  23. Pedro

Wrighty, maybe he hasn’t been influenced by anyone… maybe he just looks at who he is playing with and thinks he could do better?

  24. avenell

Arsene was only a little bit short on his bid from getting Ronaldo, even if we bought him and put him on the bench we would have finished second last year.

  25. Wrighty7

    Good point Pedro.

I personally think that he felt the glory of winning something with Spain and wants more of that. The players in the Spain squad may be influencing him that the grass is greener on the other side, I know that Hleb is trying.

  26. Keyser

It’s not about pleading poverty, it’s about what the figures actually tell you, you can throw out figures all you like but it’s not going to tell you much, the media’s been using United’s debt as a stick to beat them with, while United claim 62 million in pre tax profits for the past year or so.

Either won’t tell you much unless you have a break down of them completely. I’m not saying compare us to Hull because that’d be silly, but only two teams finished above us last year and the margin wasn’t an extreme one.

The difference in our spending capabilities is though and nothing you can say will change that, our squad costs a fraction of theirs whether we have 70 million to invest or not.

Offering 10 million for Alonso is not insulting and how much do we actually know of his interest anyway, your guessing as to how it would’ve worked out, spending 20 million on a player, one broken leg and your left with the same squad anyway and nothing to spend in January either.

  27. Keyser

Wrighty7 – Look back all through his short career has he shown himself as someone that can be easily influenced or someone who takes things lightly and gives up just like that ?!

  28. avenell

If Fabregas stays like I said earlier I wouldn’t swap him for any other player in the world,
But if he does go, I hope he does it quietly and we dignity not by saying he loves the club and the badge kissing bit, then a u turn..

  29. Trinidad_Gunner

    Gallas, Sagna, and Bender out
And Wenger doesn’t like playing Eboue at RB anymore.

    Almunia

    Toure Silveste Djou Clichy

    Theo Cesc Diaby Nasri

    Ade RVP

  30. Wrighty7

If I’m honest Keyser, no. But things change mate. His best mates have left the club and I wrote on my own blog earlier in the summer that this could influence his future.

If you told something enough times then you might start to believe it.

  31. Trinidad_Gunner

Cesc cannot be sold for 22-25 Million …. someone suggested that earlier. He’s under contract till 2014? I think.
If we wanted 30 M for Ade, we shouldn’t take anything less than 50 for Cesc … we shouldn’t even take 80

  32. Stu

Just saw that Gallas, Sagna and Bendtner are out for 2 games, lovely! Gallas shouldnt be playin anyway, Bendtner should be startin but doesn’t, so Sagna is really the only loss but we have a great full-back-up in Eboue.

Good news : Diaby is finally passed fit.
Bad news : Cesc, JD and Van Persie face late tests. Vela prob wont be in the squad because Wenger says he is tired from flying so it seems that Ade is the only option again. I wont be suprised if AW decides to start a 4-5-1 but hopefully not and LJW gets a start

  33. Franchise

Yeah Trinidad G Iouldnt suggested it I’m just saying the point is that if I could get that little for a moaning talent like Cesc then I’m ready to do business. And incase u didnt realise contracts are just a piece of paper in modern footie

  34. Trinidad_Gunner

Van Persie should be fine … he missed the game on Saturday, but he played on Wednesday. Wasn’t tackled, didn’t show any discomfort.

Cesc can play with a broken nose

  35. Trinidad_Gunner

Franchise, on the bright side, it could all be paper talk and he isn’t moaning at all. I won’t worry about it till he says he is unhappy at Arsenal

  36. Rtist

The weekend match?…0-0: COUNT ON IT.
As for the January window?..Arsene is constantly weeping about the “high” prices of players during this period…there will be no signatures: NONE.
As for the frightening visage of John McCain?…Christ, the man looks like a grilled cheese sandwich on legs..

..sorry about the last sentence/comment..tough being a yank these days..

  37. Stu

It probably is just papertalk, i tend not to believe anything from The Sun anymore. More often that not their stories are wrong.

  38. Trinidad_Gunner

Rtist … since you brought up the yanks … WCQ last night .. Trinidad 2 – US 1
Goals from the two old men … Latapy and Yorke

  39. eltel08

Hi guys, just back from Holiday and very busy.

Haven’t had time to read all the comments today so if someone already thinks this then I am wth them.

Maybe Cesc is a bit worried about his position at the Club as in training he is seeing the likes of Jack, Nasri, Sir Alf and Dennilson (yes Dennilson) Diaby (on crutches) and Sicky (on all fours) maybe he feels under pressure of actually losing his place as his form has dipped a bit so far this season.

This may sound strange that potentially the worlds best midfielder could be dropped form the team but he isn’t Eboue or TT or Kolo who can never be dropped.

I also read Le Grove while on holiday from my Ipod and I am still amazed that the majority see that clown in goal as doing well. Yet again the defence gets a caning but this guy doesn’t even though he is part of this defence.

I feel that he has been worked out by the opposition teams, they can see that pop shots from distance and aerial stuff at the six yard line are his weaknesses just as they are weaknesses for the Spuds former England No.1.

Why do we give him credit for doing what he is paid for making routine saves. I read that some rate him above the likes of Cech and Van der Sar and it makes me smile.

    I love Avenell’s gravatar.

    Go Go Gunners.

  40. Rtist

    Trinidad:

Excellent match for Trinidad..played well..deserved the win..no complaints.
The U.S. team has no heart at the moment..and fewer skills..

  41. eltel08

    Stu

Jd and Kolo won’t work as Kolo and anyone are a weakness. Kolo and the keeper should be replaced.

There are rumours of Wenger looking at another German keeper so he too must have seen the light and is worried about our keeper.

  42. avenell

Thanks El Tel… Did you go away on your bike? I mean’t to ask what bike you had from the last time you went away as well?

  43. Trinidad_Gunner

Kolo didn’t suddenly become a bad player …. imagine if we replace Kolo? And we’re talking about needing more experience ?
Kolo and Gallas might not work together, but thats as far as it goes.

  44. eltel08

I went to Florida with the family Avenell mate, just sold one of my bikes and looking for a cruiser for next years tour, one of my mates had a bad crash and I need to slow down and reduce the risks.

I love Kolo too but he had Sol at his peak with him before and a spell with the mighty Keown. He was always the recovering defender but he isn’t very good at reading the game and isn’t good enough with anyone in our defence. He can be a bucaneering DM but for me he isn’t and never was a great defender.

Maybe I have been spoilt over the GG years and some of the years before that watching proper CB’s and Keepers. We have always had good full backs even up to today though.

I will never say the name of that ugly C..t we signed this summer but he will be in with Kolo next couple of games, lets see if it improves things. I could be wrong.

  45. eltel08

    Guys

If you want the ultimate all time Super Hero sportsman then check out King Val.

This man is the best Motor Bike racer of all time.

    VALENTINO ROSSI. Simply the best.

  46. SIMON MCAHON

EVENING ALL, well it looks like THE MEKON WILL play at the back with Kolo although i would like to see JD play there ,EBUless will play at right back ,UPfront will be TT and THE Ego,
I would like to see Nasri on the left and Theo on the right , although this worries me a ;liittle with theo and ebuless playing on the same side anyway It should be Diaby with cesc, but will probably be denilson ,
The bench sholud have Vela LIttle Jack AND Ramsey On it ,
lets hope that we wrap it up quickly as BAC and Nikki B will not play on tuesday night and we dont need to get anymore injuries, I wonder if bitchslap will be on the bench? we need three points so
    COME ON YOU GUNNERS !!!!!!!!!!

  47. Pedro

Keyser, that is a poor justification for not buying a decent player. Anyone can break a leg at any time… If you took that approach with everything you’d never buy a second house in case the first blew up, or a second car in case you crashed it…

I don’t understand… you say that we can’t afford to compete, the financial figures say we can… Edelman, Hillwood and Fiszman have all said we can… but you still don’t buy it? We are in the top 3 richest clubs in the world now with a fixed 20 odd year mortgage that we could cover in the first division… pleading poverty isn’t an option anymore. We are part of the elite spenders.

Ten million for a European cup winner who is in their prime is not insulting? Rafa was the one who said we were interested, and his agent.

You seem to have selective belief… if fact doesn’t suit your belief, you palm it off. If financial reports can’t convince you… I don’t have much chance do I!

    I’m off out to football!

    Catch you later!

  48. Trinidad_Gunner

Pedro, how many people have a 2nd house or car in case the first blew up? More like a second pen in case the first runs out of ink?
    :)

  49. SFO Gooner

There is some hypocrisy in cesc’s comments. He got a chance to play in midfield when he was very young and now he turns around and says the others are too young.
Sure, the others are not as good as him, but you never know until they get a chance for a few games.

  50. Keyser

Pedro – No, i’m just overplaying the situation to get the same sort of reaction you wanted by saying there’s 70 million to spend, as if that should be enough to state and also justify your point.

What’s buying houses or cars got to do with anything ? What sort of league table situation would that represent ? Would Cup Competitions be based on the sort of party you could host in them, maybe racing cars kind of ?! I’m just saying you have to still be careful.

They’ve all come out and said they trust Wenger completely that whatever he chooses to do they will be behind him in every way they can be are you agreeing with them ?!

Again your being selective in how you choose to judge my comments, point out that we’re in top 3 richest clubs in the world all you like, we finished behind United in the Premiership and in the Rich list where are they ?!

That’s all i’m saying we’re not in the position of United or even Chelsea are, yes there are concerns about Wenger’s choices, but understanding should go beyond just simply bandying figures around.

10 million is an insult ? How would you judge that ?!

You don’t have much chance because you’ve just thrown figures around and expected me to nod in agreement, the financial report is from 2 seasons ago, maybe we have increased our profit margins but then we’ve also increased our wage bill, all i’m asking is for some sort of breakdown of this not becaue I want to disprove your points but because it gives you some sort of starting point.

Enjoy football, it’s always better to be playing it then to either watch or talk about it.

  51. kelsey

Actually my car did blow op in heath Street,Hampstead and if anyone knows the place,it’s not the easiest place to get help.A chap going the other way, stoped and told me the car was on fire under the bonnet,so I pulled over and by the time the police and fie brigade arrived it blew up.Luckily there was a turn off behind a shop so not damage was done to any other property.

I would like to see ramsey take part tomorrow,he must be oozing confidence, anyone agree.

  52. avenell

We have the third highest turnover (or fourth) whatever, but it doesn’t make you the richest club.
You have to allow for other factors like money owed assets (stadium.players) etc..

Man U are the richest club apparently, but if you consider their debts (£600m plus)we are richer than them..

MaU are losing about £50 million a year to stay on top, if thats right or wrong, long term we don’t know, but at the moment we are not winning so in the eyes of most on this site they would rather go into deep debt for a short term trophy fix..

  53. BB

what hypocrisy is there in Cesc’ s comments??

can he not be critical of losers like Song who is as appalling as his uncle who plays at Trabzon now?????????????????????????

lets be real .. our squad is piss poor coz the extremist Wenger wants us to win with an average age of 8.5 years

and once and for all, and FFS, experience counts

it does in my job and I believe it does in most others as well .. so why not at AFC ..

are we that extra terrestrial..not to say special like old Jose

  54. avenell

It’s not just Song he has mentioned Denilson, Nasri and Theo who are all at least 3 years older than Cesc was when he was given a chance.

The policy worked for Cesc so why slag the policy now he is not the promising youngster breaking through..

As I said earlier at Man U, Cesc would be bench warming with Anderson and Nani..

  55. Trinidad_Gunner

Avenell, I kinda of understand where you’re coming from because Wenger gave him his chance at a young, young age.
But …. at that time, there were senior players all around him. There was Viera, Gilberto, Pires, Freddie.

If the quotes are correct, he is complaining that he is the most SENIOR player at 21. Which is different from how it was for him.

  56. Trinidad_Gunner

Is he really complaining about missing out on young days by leaving Spain at 16? I left home and my family at 16 for college in the US … I don’t complain, and I don’t make 80,000 a week either.

  57. Confidentgoner

Why are we fixated on player’s age. football is a very tasking physical game, so the younger the better, generally. There is a talent factor and there is an experience factor as well. But lets not think that one outweighs the other,

If I may ask, how old is Mesi?- 21yrs. How old is Iniesta? – 21yrs. How old was pele before he played for the Brazilian team? – 17yrs. What is this our obsession about age? Flamini was much younger than Gilberto and less experienced and yet he managed to bench him. Where does the coach’s own experience come in?

I have said it and will say it again, our problem is not so much from these boys as they are from our bench. Someone needs to stir up AW and we need a defensive coach.

  58. kenny smith

Sagna, Gallas and bendtner all have injuries that will keep them out for two games…. plus rvp fabregas and djouru face late fitness tests! Diaby is fit!

  59. avenell

I don’t remember any of those players saying Cesc was too young while they were Arsenal players.

Wenger could have brought players to replace those but he trusted Cesc, now it seems Cesc doesn’t trust Wenger.

Also read the posts at 4.42 The first one is more of a Cesc comment..

  60. Trinidad_Gunner

Noone said he was too young because he wasn’t leading the line.

Look at it this way :
He is basically saying that he is too young to be the oldest player there

  61. avenell

    Evening choy…

It’s not like these great experienced players who have left are setting the world alight with there amazing skills.

And it was Cescs mates who chose to leave Cesc, Arsene wanted them to stay!

  62. Trinidad_Gunner

Flamini and Hleb are both cunts, theres no denying that Avenell. Of course Wenger wanted them to stay. Hleb can’t fuck off to Barca and call Cesc every day inviting him over.
I don’t see Cesc trying to convince Messi to join him at Arsenal.
Hleb is publicly tapping up Cesc for Barcelona. I hope he never gets a game there

  63. Pedro

Keyser, those comments are completely relevant… you said if a player breaks his leg, you are stuck with the same squad. How does that comment justify not spending? Never purchase in case the said player gets injured? That is over cautious to the extreme.

    Here are the latest figures:

    Link

You say that we can’t compete with Manchester United… why not? They spent £30million on a player, Danny says we can too,

“It’s not our decision who he spends money on, nor will it ever be our decision. If he said to us ‘I want this guy and he’s £30 million, can I buy him?’ the answer is yes. Absolutely yes. We totally back him. It’s his decision. I’m unfortunately not good enough to be a manager myself but I’d love to be.’’

    How about wages (2008 figures)…

‘These increases have helped fund an increase in the cost of wages from £89.7 million last year to £101.3 million. Overall, it means that wages account for around 45 per cent of the club’s turnover – a figure that is considered relatively sound by industry experts.’

ManU’s were £85million the season before.

    As for profits,

“The football club generated an operating profit figure of approximately £60 million for the 2007-08 financial year, so you can see that the £20 million annual debt service costs are very comfortably covered.”

Manchester Uniteds were £59.6 million in January…

Our cash reserves are up from £73million to £93million… so again, a pretty damn healthy position.

If you think a £10mill offer for Alonso is fair… that is your opinion, but I disagree… so would every liverpool fan out there.

Avenell, the Glazers refinanced and are pretty experienced at what they do… they wont sink the Mancs for a couple of trophies… they are businessmen first and foremost.

To me Cesc is basically saying he feels like he has too much responsibility on his shoulders. Before on both wings there were experienced players, now there’s Theo and Nasri who although are great players, still need to be broken into playing on a regular basis in the Premier League. While Cesc was being broken in, he was surrounded by experience, Gilberto, Pires, Rosicky, and now he has to take on more defensive responsibilities whereas before in his words, Flamini covered every blade of grass. I get the feeling he doesn’t see Eboue as a worthy replacement, yeah big surprise, but it must be a pain to have to carry the can for a player who plays in an attacking position but is highly unlikely to contribute to the goal tally. He might do, but don’t hold your breath.
It takes time to build a rapport within a team, you are the team and the team is you, you’re inseperable. A few experienced heads are a good option to have but what we’re seeing now is Arsene Wenger determined to prove to the world that these players are top class, and that they’re all ready for first team action. I won’t rule out that they are but it’s always good to have one or two players who have been in plenty of big games and have experience of coping, and Cesc is telling us that at the moment it’s a tough slog winning the battle in midfield, and that’s key in football, the cult of the striker or the super goalkeeper shall always prevail, but 40%+ of the game happens in the middle of the park, and midfielders are expected to help in defence, and attack, set up the goals, keep the flow and the pace going. Midfield is key.
If you got Cech and Torres playing for Middlesbrough, it would change their dynamic slightly, but without the midfielders doing the running end to end and helping defence and setting up goal opportunities it would not amount to a team winning on a consistent basis.
It’s difficult, but as Cesc says, it’s going to be a hard slog for these youths. Wenger was relying upon the return of Rosicky, that would have made a major difference.

If there are only 2 players we need an upgrade on, I’d say A.Song and W.Gallas. If we got the best possible central midfielder and best possible central defender to replace those 2, we would be sorted, simple as.

Although I’d like a fit Rosicky, we can’t rely upon it, so either we play Wilshere on the wing from time to time, or we bring in someone like Wright-Phillips or Cole, someone of their quality, because Nasri can play on right wing I would go for Ashley Young, but he’d cost about 20 million. Well well worth it though. I remember Arsene saying that if the right player was available that he’d spend. Young is perfect for us, right pace, plenty of skill, scores goals and assists, he’s more athletic than Eboue any day of the week.

  65. Keyser

Pedro – I was exaggerating just to point out that whatever we spend we have to be careful with, if we spend 30 million on one player thats our budget gone or at least thats what was left supposedly from the 70 million after contracts and such were renewed.

United on the other hand aswell as Chelsea have other players they’ve bought up they could bring in at the same time if one of their players gets injured, are you seriously telling me at this point in time we should be able to compete with United or Chelsea on a completely even footing ? Seriously ?!

Look at your quote : Can we buy a player for 30 million ? Yes. Should we buy one ? That’s completely up to Wenger, We totally back him, it’s his decision. I’m unfortunately not good enough to be a manager myself but I’d love to be.

Do you really think that’s all you have to look at, we’ve been generating the same sort of profits as United for a year or two, what have United done with all the money they’ve been rolling in all the years previous, they’ve built a squad costing how many more times more than ours ?!

  66. Keyser

As for Alonso, it’s a starting point, we were supposed to have put in a 12 million pound bid aswell and an increased offer of 14 million at the last, how much do you think he’s worth because he was being touted as going to Juventus for 15 million ?!

I’m asking how do you judge it ?! Why is one bid a complete insult and another acceptable ?!

  67. avenell

Also if the Glaziers managed to lose their own debt’s of over £500 million in a takeover of Man U, and it was done within a LIMITED company the Glaziers walk away from the debt because of limited liability.

Man U = bankrupt so another £20m on a player means nothing to them..

If Arsenal do it people like Geoff lose there shares..

I agree about Alonso and I have said that too. if Bentley is worth£17m and Barry is worth £18m …. Alonso a euro and Champions League winner is not a £10m player..

  68. Pedro

Avenell, Chelsea and West hams owners don’t have a history of success with sports teams. Read up on how the Glaziers managed to get Florida to pay for a new stadium for one of their teams… they are sharp.

Keyser, Manchester united constantly invest in their squad… we never do… we are the only team in the premiership to always have a cash surplus. We’ve won trophies, always been in the champions league and always made loads of money shifting on players… yet Newcastle, Spurs, Liverpool and Aston Villa spend more money than us?

The money didn’t just disappear did it?

Wenger doesn’t spend becuase he likes to do things on the cheap, not because he can’t afford to.

    As for Alonso… you comparethemarket.com.

    Gareth Barry: £19million (Price tag)
    Owen Hargreaves: £17million
    Carrick: £18.6million
    Obi Mikel: £16million
    Diarra: £20million
    Essien: £24million
    Mascharano: £18million

Alonso: European Cup Winner, Prem Experience, Champions League winner

    £10million.

I’d say that is a bit insulting seeing as the market rate for a world class centre mid seems to be about £18million. I think the generally most reported he agreed personal terms but £10mill was all that was offered.

  69. Metal Gear

Will people like Gunner stop saying had Eduardo been fit we would have won the league lets look at the facts if U look at the Birmingham game yes what happened 2 Eduardo was unfortunate but that has nothing 2 do with the result first things first we conceded a sloppy free-kick when the wall did not jump and Almunia was out of position the same wall which cost us goals against Spurs away PL, Liverpool away PL, Man U away PL and so on. Yes you’ve finally realized this potential great side can’t even organize/concentrate when in a wall together and Almunia who should have been replaced by Lehmann simply because he performed when he came in. In that game we got back with 2 Walcott goals at 2-1 Adebayor is put through he has Bendtner screaming 4 the ball if he passes Bendtner has an empty net In front off him Bendtner would have a 99% chance of scoring and inevitably killing off the game but instead Adebayor takes option two and tries 2 curl the ball into the net it fails the reason 4 him not passing could be there well known dislike/hate 4 each other or because Adebayor simply got greedy or even both either way it said a lot about him. What did Gallas-the captain say or do when than incident occurred nothing why did he not throw a tantrum or scream at Adebayor 4 not killing off the game? the same way he screamed and threw a tantrum after the loss of concentration from Clichy. Lets look at the next game against Aston Villa Senderos gifts them a goal the a defender who is in my opinion has always been as Arsenals biggest liability, in January it would have been a major coup
had Wenger signed Woodgate that’s where Wenger failed I remember reading he did not sign him because he was injury prone so V.Persie, Rosicky, Bishoff, Diaby all players that Wenger has either signed or persisted with despite there proneness 2 injury tells me something does not add up. I think AW did not sign Woodgate because he knew he would have 2 drop either Gallas or Toure as Woodgate is a top class defender and Wenger has got no backbone. Why do you think he sold G.Silva? oh U think because he was getting old he was passed it etc. G.Silva was not passed it he performed poorly because he did not get a run of games look how well he preformed once he got that (run off games) IMO Wenger sold him knowing had he kept him he would have been under pressure 2 make him captain thus selling him takes that pressure off himself G.Silva protects the back 4 better than any of the current H.M at the club and he is also a natural leader. Wenger sold him because he had no balls 2 strip the worst Arsenal captain in recent memory and hand it 2 a much more suitable candidate.

The game after the Milan win was against Wigan. We drew that was the fist time I could visibly see the tiredness in the players no rotating from Wenger? What about his faith in the his young fledglings where was Walcott and Co? what Wenger is really good at shelving out is shit because he talks shit there was no Walcott and Co because he does not trust them the way he say’s he does he only trusts his beloved first eleven. I would love 2 talk about that Middlesbrough game where we conceded that sloppy goal from our sloppy defensive partnership or even the home and away CL fixture against Liverpool where we signed, sealed and delivered them the semi-final or even the Man U game where once again our defender(s) cost us a goal but I think you’ve got my point we (that includes AW) threw away the title because we bottled It simple as that our lack of leadership, girt, mentality, character basically everything that’s necessary 2 become a winning team showed. But if some people want 2 believe the bullshit that Wenger has been feeding U than carry on eating this bullshit don’t you get it we fucked up accept it we our losers not winners and that’s all we’ll ever be until Wenger pull his finger out.

  70. Keyser

Pedro – Come on dude, have we always been this big, with these profits with all this cash supposedly lying around, where have we come from to get where we are now ? Do you think George Graham left us with all this in place ?!

United simply have the freedom to invest in the squad like that, while we were selling Anelka, Overmars and Petit to finance the next step in our growth they could almost buy who they wanted and even when we won the league in 02′ they were busy breaking the transfer record 3 times over the span of 13 months to try and regain top spot again.

Why do players leave, seeking better oppurtunites or more money elsewhere is it just because Wenger’s stingy and been holding Arsenal back ?!

We built a brand new academy, a brand new stadium, and while we may be indebted due to it, money was still obviously spent on it, we’ve never invested in the squad ? How the hell have we got to where we are is Wenger some sort of alchemest ? Merlin maybe ?!

So Wenger’s never spent money ? Nasri didn’t come cheap but in comparion to players from United he did and that says it all, 13 million is almost a record for us, for United it’s the norm, and while it’s changing slowly now, it’ll take time.

So the generally most reported is 10 million ? Come on, ‘generally most reported’ meaning no-one actually knows but that’s what they think ?!

Others said we put in bids of 12 and then 14 million, how do you think Wenger came up with these values if it’s true ? Do you honestly think he sat there and thought I want to insult Benitez this is how I’ll do it ?!

If during last season, Alonso had been touted around at 18 million people would have laughed, it wasn’t just us that didn’t buy him, no-one did, despite all this supposed interest no-one actually bought him, but then your guess is as good as mine as to why, maybe Liverpool just didn’t want to sell him.

  71. avenell

Keyser.. your last sentance, “maybe Liverpool didn’t want to sell him”

Why did they play him in a CL qualifier and cup tie him?

Any club with money apart from Ac Milan would walk away from the deal, for a cup tied player is an important point.

Was it Benitez v the Liverpool owners having aa power struggle?

  72. Keyser

avenell – I think Benitez was probably ready to give up Alonso aslong as he got Barry in before, that was the general story otherwise you’ve got no real reason to sell Alonso in the first place unless you need the money.

Does the Uefa Cup tie you aswell ? Because Barry played for Villa in it, either way we don’t know exactly how it went down but it’s not just down to Wenger whether he gets him or not.

  73. Pedro

How many players actually leave us seeking more money elsewhere?

We managed to keep Pires, Bergkamp, Henry, Paddy, Campbell, Freddie for years… do you think they were working half price for the love of the club?

Do you think Thierry bettered the £10million a year he made in his last year at Barca?

Cashley left for money, Flamini left because it was Milan and Hleb left becuase he wanted his dream move to Spain.

Wenger is an opportunist… if he can get a bargain, he’ll take it… if he can’t he’ll leave it.

Christiano Ronaldo was coming to us for £4million, ManU bid £10million… we lost out. We got Cesc for £500k… do you think we would have competed if Chelsea went in with £5million?

Wenger has always had plenty of money to spend… but he chooses not to. Every year the Chairman comes out and says the same thing… ‘It’s not us… it’s him’.

Believe whatever you want with Alonso… but that sounds exactly the sort of thing he’d do. He wouldn’t be trying to insult Rafa… he’d be playing on their desperation to get Barry.

Avenell… the Glazers can afford to service the debt as they refinanced it 6 months ago.

They’ll be fine and come out at the other end with a club paid for by the fans.

‘The credit crunch is not having a negative bearing on United. It is having zero impact on United. ‘We continue to benefit from the sell out of Old Trafford and the growth in our commercial operation.

‘We refinanced back in 2006 and that structure provides long term stability. The debt continues to be comfortably serviced by the club’s strong growth in cash flow.’

Pedro they haven’t got it as secure as Arsenal

Manchester United’s transfer spending, contract negotiations, player sales, ticket pricing and commercial deals will all fall into the hands of the hedge funds who are bankrolling Malcolm Glazer’s takeover if the American businessman fails to meet certain repayment deadlines.

Manchester United’s transfer spending, contract negotiations, player sales, ticket pricing and commercial deals will all fall into the hands of the hedge funds who are bankrolling Malcolm Glazer’s takeover if the American businessman fails to meet certain repayment deadlines.

The hedge funds, which specialise in high-risk lending at high rates of interest, will also, under certain circumstances, have a right to seats on United’s board if Glazer fails to meet specific profit targets in his first two years in control.

Aside from bank loans of £265m which alone could cost £570m to repay, Glazer is borrowing £109m for working capital, and £275m in “preferred securities” from three hedge funds. Glazer needs to refinance the securities as quickly as possible to make his debts sustainable. But the documentsreveal he faces a staggering £167m redemption penalty if he redeems them before 2 May next year, or £55m in effective interest for the year (which rises exponentially) if he does not. If he fails to pay back the securities, in full, within 63 months, the hedge funds will effectively take control of United.

United’s chairman, Sir Roy Gardner, who on Wednesday announced his impending resignation, had warned that Glazer has provided no guarantees on future debt, transfer budgets or Old Trafford’s future. It is now clear such guarantees were impossible because Glazer knows he faces the risk of defaulting control to the hedge funds.

Pedro – Anelka, Petit, Overmars, – there’s a number of reasons players leave, money and better oppurtunitites are just a couple. Where were we when Wenger started out and where are we now regardless of what he’s spent, the same sort of money hasn’t always been available, United havealways been the richer bigger club.

Do you think they started out on 100,000 a week, they spent years at the club building up to that and thats the way it should be, do you think it’s really that simple ?!

Bergkamp took a pay cut in his final couple of seasons, what your saying get real we should be paying the rest as other clubs ?!

What are you trying to say with the Ronaldo and Fabregas comparison ?!

Has the chairman come out and said it every year ? and even then how much has Wenger had to spend each year ? He’s come out and said he’s behind Wenger completely, it’s his choise.

Believe whatever I want ? There’s not much to go on and I’m not just going to sit and here and suddenly believe that Wenger wanted to insult Benitez because your saying thats what he wanted to do and your still guessing with the rest.

You might think Wenger makes all these completely insane and random decisions, I don’t, if he doesn’t spend money and thats in your opinion a mistake there will still be a rational thought process behind it.

  83. Keyser

franchise – Where did the press get the comments he made from ?!

It doesn’t have the question that he was asked. Say a journalist had asked him the following.

Everything i’ve read. Plus what I’ve been told by anti glazer mancs says that they are NOT servicing their debt and it is growing by $200,000 a day. They tried to refinance along the same terms as Arsenal and were turned down by every bank. Their profits don’t even cover the interest payments and they put the 30 mil or whwtever they paid for count dracula on the loan. they are not sustainable at the levels they are spending. I’m sure Geoff’s been over this before.

Chelsea and United debts at record £1.5bn• Accounts show London club’s debts at £736m
    • Abramovich backing has been in form of loansDavid Conn The Guardian, Tuesday May 20 2008 Article history

Chelsea and Manchester United, the Premier League’s two representatives in tomorrow’s Champions League final, owe creditors £1.5bn between them. According to the latest accounts of Chelsea Limited, the company which owns the football club, Chelsea owed £736m to all its creditors. United’s accounts, also recently filed at Companies House, showed total creditors at £764m. Those unprecedented figures will fuel concern that at this time of English football’s greatest club triumph its clubs are carrying too much debt.

Covering the year to June 30 2007, Chelsea’s accounts show that the club’s largest creditor was the owner himself, Roman Abramovich, who had poured £578m into the club, not as a donation but as an interest-free loan. As stated by the chief executive, Peter Kenyon, in February, Chelsea did not owe “external debt” to any bank.

However, with Abramovich’s £578m loan, introduced to sign players and pay wages since he bought the club in 2003, plus general amounts owed, taxes and some categories listed among creditors for formal accounting purposes, Chelsea’s creditors stood at £736m in total.

Chelsea’s director of communications, Simon Greenberg, confirmed that the £578m, described in the accounts as “Other loan”, is indeed the loan from Abramovich. Greenberg reiterated that Chelsea has no “external debt” and pointed out that the creditors included season-ticket holders for 2007-08, whose money has technically to be treated as owed until the season is over, “and other normal operating creditors”. The figure also included £36.3m still owed on a Eurobond taken out by Chelsea’s previous owner, Ken Bates, in 1997. That, the last of Chelsea’s “external debt”, was then repaid last December.

Kenyon released headline figures from these accounts in February, highlighting that the club made a record turnover, £190.5m, and that its losses were down from £80.2m in 2005-06 to £75.8m last year. Kenyon said then that the club was in a healthy financial position, still aiming to break even by 2009-10, partly because it did not owe money to outside creditors and retained Abramovich’s support. “With the company being external debt free and our ownership clearly demonstrating continuing commitment to the long term,” Kenyon said, “I am very confident about the future.”

United’s accounts showed the club’s total creditors at £764m. United does have “external debt” – £666m owed to financial institutions, including £152m to hedge funds – taken on by the Glazer family when they bought the club in 2005, then loaded on to United itself. While United’s loans incurred interest of £81m last year, the loan to Chelsea by Abramovich is interest-free. Abramovich has funded Chelsea’s extraordinary acquisition of stars and, although transfers showed a profit last year, he continued to allow Chelsea to be run at a substantial loss.

Kenyon’s role is to transform Chelsea into a club which can survive on its own earnings. In February he acknowledged it was an “ambitious” target to aim to be self-financing by 2009-10 but the accounts bear out commercial progress in all areas. Having finished runners-up in the Premier League, won the FA Cup and League Cup and reached the Champions League semi-final, the club’s sponsorship, match-day and media income all increased to push total turnover 25% up.

However, there is no doubt that the club remains wholly reliant on Abramovich’s continued funding. Chelsea’s chairman, Bruce Buck, has stressed that Abramovich “loves football” and will not “walk away” from Chelsea.

If the owner’s enthusiasm were ever to wane, and Abramovich decided he did want his loan back, the accounts show that Chelsea would have 18 months to find the money.

At least we got a stadium for our debt!!!!

  86. Pedro

This isn’t debating it’s arguing and it is getting boring.

You can trawl through the archives if you want to find the quotes from the Chairman, I assure you they are there… but I am not going to sit there and dig them out because even if I do… you’ll still try and argue their existence.

I didn’t say Arsene went out to insult Rafa did I? I said it was an insulting offer for a world class player.

I know why he is making the decisions he is making.

He started a project to compete with the big boys while Arsenal were in financial difficulties… that involved creaming europe of the best kids… we came through the finacial issues faster than expected… but Wenger’s project is still ongoing. He has loads of kids he has uprooted on the basis of these promises… if he abandons the project he lets them all down.

See the, ‘Kill a career’ story from the summer.

Now I don’t have the project booklet that he wrote that in, but there is plenty of stuff on well respected sites about it if you wish to investigate… including Arsenal.com.

That is the rationale. Does it make it right? I don’t think so… I think you have a responsibility to the fans who pay good money to see a competitive team.

Anyway, I am off for sure now!

I am posting tomorrow… on what… well, that has yet to be decided!

GM, if that is true… fucking brilliant!

  87. goonermichael

The debt is a good risk to the banks because of the growth it (the stadium) provides. We take the most money (regardless of whether we think the prices are too high) on match days. One of the owners of liverpool publicly stated that ” Arsenal have set a benchmark in terms of matchday revenue”.

  88. Keyser

Yeah it is boring, and I guess I’m sorry I just think there’s alot more to consider than just throwing certain facts or figures in the air or quoting people to suit your point.

I’m not saying thats what you’ve done but this last post is the only one that’s lead me to think that you’ve considered those other aspects, maybe you’ve discussed it before and it gets tedious having to explain your argument again.

Then at the same time I haven’t been here all that long and people’s thoughts seem to have been whittled down to one sentance answers or he doesn’t know what he’s doing, this players completely crap this players not..

It’s just one offer and people’s opinions on what he’s worth will differ, we put in a 14 million pound bid aswell, we didn’t get him but then Liverpool didn’t sell anyway, so the point’s pretty much moot.

I’ve seen the story and I’ve read a whole host of others, Chairmen could have been quoted in the past, but then times change and so do opinions and each one will be met on it’s own merits.

He had a project, it’s still in effect and I hope it always will be because it’s one that gives an almost guarantee that we will have a prosperous furure despite how much we spend or whatever manager takes the mantle from Wenger.

We were competitive last year but I think what you mean is we need to win something, unless you think we won’t compete for the rest of the season, then I think thats an extremely negative view to take.

It’s nothing personal, just football, something I’ve been told off before about going too far, anyways have a good nite.

  89. ethangunner

So we here at Le Grove and 99% of you Grovers have been saying now for three years you need to sign some experience

99% are you sure ??? really ? 99 ? hmmmm prior to my little forced holiday i was getting in trouble because i seemed to be the only one who felt the same way as most of us did
    pre season !
It seems to me the clock has done the full turn around !

Ive stated many times hleb-flamini – cesc and theo where a force to be reckoned with last season…..
theo’s blinding runs at the end of last season , the nucleus of the spice boys where giving us chance after chance ! of which ade fucked 90% of them chances up ! and still remained competitive… We simply cannot recover quick enough without buying experienced replacements …

seb told me we would have no midfield problems this year .. cant help but say i told you so !

And cesc will go at the end of the season , further proving if you buy players too young all you end up doing is giving them an apprenticeship to go on and ply there trade at a better funded club who wins accolades elsewhere!

wenger NEEDS to adopt the plan of getting players who are 24-25 and close to peaking ..
to avoid paying huge price tags . We get thebest years out of them and still sell them for what we paid for them …
i would say like hleb- rosicky – even pires and freddie style purchases . sagna you get the drift .
Rosicky isn’t that greater example but you get the idea , hopefully purchase someone without a history of injuries ..
Even the odd deco – van nestleroy – TH14 -Raul -ronaldinho basically some proven legend with a few years left in the tank .. buying a redi- made leader wouldn’t go astray either !

If you are going to recruit top youth players make them English , the English players very seldom move from club to club or over seas .. Jack, Ramsey, theo are the way to go ! there is very little chance of them wanting to go to Spain or Italy .. But as for the rest , we will never see the best of these players …. they will get there heads turned at least 2 or 3 times by the 1st other clubs interested … and Going back to your home country as a success is something too hard for a lot of players to turn down ! especially for more money and more chances of winning silverware … and its silverware that means something to a player .. like cesc wanting to win a La liga medal ! that would mean more to him on a personal level than an EPL medal !

  90. ReVELAtion

First things first… If adebayor or Gallas or Eboue had those comments attributed to the instead of Cesc they’d be getting the arsehole ripped out of them.. Basically he should just shut his trap and concentrate on improving his own form which has been dire this season…. Yes he has to play with denilson, but it was he (Cesc) who said he can adapt his game to play with any1 put in there… Funny that?

As the comment is from the sun, i’m not going to read too much into it… However, he (Cesc) isn’t exactly wrong, but if he came out and said it’s a totally different thing… It’s not the time for the squad to start feeling sorry for themselves & whinging in october ffs!

Someone said earlier he was harbouring for a move.. I wouldn’t disagree with that based on previous arsenal developmental shoing of loyalty untill a transfer window opens and besides we’d never sell him for less than £40 mill, so he’s stuck here whether he likes it or not…. The fact he’s sulking only makes it worse…

Rico, Appiah is not the answer… He’s nowehere near match fit and would only cause disruption at this stage.. There is also no point in buying in january as it smacks of desperation showing the squad was not ready… Arsene would never give that impression and only if a “suprise buy” like Reyes was coming in would it be deemed acceptable… We need a winger and a centre midfielder, but no-one who can improve our squad dramatically and be eligable for the CL will be harbouring for a move at that point……

Basically we’ll have to slog it out till the end of the season and see where the land lies…. There’ll be time to point fingers, but it isn’t now… Nikki B, Gallas, Sagna, Djourou, Van Perise & Cesc could all miss the everton game!!!!

It’s time to support what we’ve got for now… Eboue has been 1 of our better players this season so some of you need to find other things to do then slag him off… Why don’t you slag off Cesc or Denilson or Toure cause they’ve been shite all season long???

    Team for sat looks like…

    Almunia

    Eboue
    Toure
    Silvestre
    Clichy

    Nasri
    Cesc/Ramsey
    Denilson/Diaby
    Walcott

Van Persie (if fit after assessment)
Adebayor (He’s going to get a brace!)

It’s ropey, but whoevers out there representing arsenal on that pitch right now needs our support, not our vitriole!

The manager however needs a slap!

It’s official….not that I didn’t know it already…..The Sun is full of CRAP!!!!!

What a joke of a newspaper!!

    Ethan

You said previously that Spurs were going to be a real threat this season coz they finally had a great manager. Spurs are shit & on the bottom of the ladder.

  93. kingsley

i’m not sure if i read this on the comments section on here but the problem with wenger is not who he buys but who he doesnt buy.

  94. gnarleygeorge9

…….and how do I remember? coz I thought the same. Well not that One Day Ramos was great, but one day spurs would have to rise out of the prime evil slime called shits ville. 47 years of being Arsenals wipe had to come to an end, so I thought, but no, they just will continue to be hopeless I guess.

  95. gnarleygeorge9

……speaking of malt sandwiches. Bought myself a dozen Peronis from the local bottleshop today, which is right next door to the Thai.

“Arsène has built an unbelievable squad here,” said Fabregas.

“We have great spirit and I have complete trust in the manager’s policy.

“Arsène is the best at giving youngsters a chance. No-one else comes close to him for that. He doesn’t care how old you are, as long as you are good enough and has the confidence to give young players a chance.

“Anything said to the contrary is simply not true and I would like to reiterate to all Arsenal supporters that I am 100 per cent behind the team and the manager.

“The future is bright,” Fabregas went on. “Players like Denilson, Theo Walcott and Samir Nasri have shown real class this season and I’m positive we have the quality to challenge for the title.

“Yes we do have a lot of young players, but they have all shown they can handle it at the top level in the Premier League and Champions League.

“It’s hard to imagine I’m one of the oldest players at the Club now but it will be a privilege to help guide some of these youngsters through.

“We’re the envy of every other club and it’s so exciting to be a part of that.”

  97. kenny smith

That just contradicts most of what everyone was debating about yesterday….. if cesc didnt say what was printed in that paper then surely either cesc or the club could sue!!!!!!

  98. kenny smith

Or maybe what could of happened is cesc has been given a bollacking from wenger at training yesterday and told to speak to ATVO and say that he believes in the squad…. i hope thats not the case as cesc will be pretty un happy at having to do that. There is no way Arsene hasnt spoke to him about it. I mean if he did say what the sun printed, then thats pretty irresponsible, regardless of whether its true or not, and isnt going to inspire any of the young players. I guess a few of them will be tripping him up in training.

  99. gnarleygeorge9

If The Arsenal would just win a Cup…….or 2 then the monkey would be off THOF’s back. So why don’t they just win the fucker, so all the miserable reporters go & piss awf. Is that a bit heavy for your 8.33am ;)

  100. ethangunner

fuck other teams in all honesty .. and yes 9 times out of 10 if you spent that much on players and talent pre – season , generally you would get results, ramos is having huge problems with language currently (who saw that coming ???? ) and
his coaches run the training sessions ! He is a great spanish coach maybe in time he will go back home and prove it again ! I said spurs would represent a threat to us ! and if they take 6 points off us this season … they still will be !

I also said Man shitty would be a good team this season … but that still doesnt mean that arsenal still didnt need to buy more experience to challenge !

i fail to see what the spuds have to do with anything ! ?
and they will always give us a close game !
irrispective of where they are on the ladder ? !
    whats your point George?

  101. kelsey

    Morning/evening all. FF=frustrating friday.

I ask the same question again, how many of our squad would get into the chavs or manure side.Do you think fergie or mourinho would not have bought cover for rosicky and rvp in the last two years. The mancs won the league and reinforced by spending 50 million.okay we can’t do that but over the last season there was by all accounts 30+ million available.
I said yesterday we are basically a reserve side with a sprinkling of experience,we will win nothing with this approach,we have no leader and cesc at 21 has more expectancy on him now, which will affect his game.

  102. ethangunner

also if you were not mentally challenged you would realize the big hype about spurs challenging this season … faded when they sold keane and berba ! A team (like us or anyone) who loses 2 big 1st team players will suffer ! ramos’es language problems have aided there demise , but he – like wenger said he was keeping his team together ! i think management had a say in it ..

But i think the second they sold bebatov/keane no body pipped them to challenge this season !
