Two new signings and a big fat I told you so…!

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Morning Grovers, sorry for the delay.. technical difficulties at Geoff Towers!

Our two new signings this week are an American Billionaire who we’ve signed to play mostly on the board… apparently he has great vision, superb decision making ability and he could help secure our financial future.

Our second signing is Peter Lawwel from Celtic… the Wiley old Scot has the experience we’ve been lacking in the Chief Exec position. Celtic appear unwilling to let him go without a fight though. Apparently he plays tough, he has quite a portfolio of skills and he has the ability to elevate us into the upper echeleons of European football.

Next up, a bit of gloating from me. Remember this?

‘He also feigned injury and went off… again, I believed this to be a cynical act to stop the press tearing him to shreds tomorrow and I felt that was poor from a player who knows about his bad reputation amongst the faithful…’

Well, I got a bit of a ripping from the Eboue Sympathisers club over that comment…

‘He’s out for two weeks you buffoon!’

Well, surprise, surprise… guess who is in the squad for tonight’s game?

EBOUE!

Never trust an Eboue… that’s all I’ll say.

Onto tonight, Wenger is in a bullish mood,

“We are happy to play football – we are afraid of nobody in the world”

That’s fighting talk Arsene! I was hoping for a line more like,

‘Arsenal eat Kiev’s for dinner…’

Beggars can’t be choosers though, right?

I’ve got a good feeling about tonight… maybe a comfortable 0-2 victory! The boys are on a roll, Ade has found his shooting boots and the rest of the team are on fire. Keep the wins going boys!

So, who do you think will start? Here is your squad list, let me know your thoughts in the comments section because I have no idea!

1 Manuel ALMUNIA (GK)
3 Bacary SAGNA
4 Cesc FABREGAS
5 Kolo TOURE
10 William GALLAS (c)
11 Robin VAN PERSIE
12 Carlos VELA
14 Theo WALCOTT
15 DENILSON
16 Aaron RAMSEY
17 Alex SONG
19 Jack WILSHERE
20 Johan DJOUROU
21 Lukasz FABIANSKI (GK)
22 Gael CLICHY
25 Emmanuel ADEBAYOR
26 Nicklas BENDTNER
27 Emmanuel EBOUE

Have a rip roaring day Grovers!

ddm Eboue has the legs and ability to get back as a right back if needed as well

Vela for Sagna would leave us too exposed on the counter

  2. Rasputin

You lot are dreaming – we’re going to lose this game and AW will come out with some ridiculous crap to ‘explain’ why!

  3. Ateeb

    Paul:
Shit game? Well the scoreline doesn’t suggest that. Taking into account the fact that the penalty was really harsh. Were you watching the same game?

  4. Seb

Ateeb enough with the name calling, Gallas fucked up leading up to the penalty and Bangoura was all over us like a rash, so people are entitled to have been less than happy with him.

The goal helps people forget all that though.

  5. Sion De Freitas

smh, bludy arsenal, we dont like to do things easy do we?

Where was wilshere, we needed a player like him today on the wing, age dont matter, he was somebody we could have done with, there was no balance in midfield, we were even worse after the goal when Song went off.

Glad we got the point, but I bet Wenger will be pissed, remember, he doesn’t slag the team off to the media, hes got the media to do that anyway, but privately, he will let the team know that they were shit today, they better buck up before the next CL game.

  6. paul

Heres something that will cheer you up.Imagine being a spud supporter and thinking about the stick they were going to give us.Then we score ha ha.

  7. Ateeb

    Seb:
Was I talking to you? In my last post where did you read ” Seb this message is for you”? The post was directed at Paul, stay out of it.

  8. Big Raddy

What a dreadful game Adebayor had. Worse than dreadful. He didn’t produce a single positive thing in the match.

Offsides, lack of control, loss of posession, slowing down attacks, taking passes aimed for others, headers missed. And he almost screwed up Gallas’s goal. Rubbish

Positives from the game? I guess Song played OK. Theo never gave up. That’s it

  9. Gooner07

Good result. That wasn’t a penalty in any case. Need to win the home games, that’s mandatory, and we should win 1 out of the remaining 2 away games. Now for bolton!

  10. Evo in Oz

the set up was a bit fucked today, but a tasty point is good on an away game in cuntsville i say, so bank it!

could have been worse, like the man scum playiing at home and having a 0-0 result

  11. Seb

We had a very narrow team, playing 3 CMs will do that to you. We should have started far more adventurously and then brought Song on to stiffen things up once we had scored.

    In my humble opinion.

  12. hounddog

Sorry guys but some of you are really shit fucking supporters!!! I can’t believe some of the stupid comments that have been made in the last 20 minutes.

  13. Big Raddy

Stop bitchin. This is Le Grove, we don’t do that here.

Right Seb, the team was off-balance. RvP just didn’t know where to play.

  14. kenny smith

bbc says the penalty was mega harsh!!!! also what do u think about the stoppage time? there was a kiev player down injured for half of it!!!

  15. Seb

Ateeb trust me, you wouldn’t have lasted this long if certain people had been on. All you have done is take issue with individuals, this site is for like-minded people who want to see us play well and succeed, and enjoy discussing the team’s performance, all you have contributed is the following:

    - Stop whining !!!

    - Hypocrites you all !!!

    - ….Were you watching the same game?

Your tone is antagonistic and non-constructive, so don’t get on your high horse with em, bring something interesting to the table rather than criticise other people.

  16. Gooner07

    Lessons learnt tonight:

    a) never play RVP in the left wing, he is effective, and dangerous in RM or center forward position!

    b) people dive if you put your hand on their side.

    c) cesc needs to play his role than adjusting to different partners and combinations.

    d) Denilson is useless when you play Song.

  17. Big Raddy

If that had been Theo brought down in that manner at the other end, we would have screamed for a pen & rightly so. Sagna had his arms around the guy.

  18. Seb

Yes Raddy RvP was wasted on the left, he never plays on the left ever, it was a crazy move.

I have a feeling Cesc is missing his buddy Hleb, and when Nasri isn’t playing there’s noone of a similar level of passing for him to link with.

When (if) Rosicky and Nasri are fit, we will play the greatest football in history.

  19. Gooner07

I agree with Seb. Nasri-Cesc-Rosicky with Song in the back would be some midfield. Not to mention RVP-byewhore in the front.

  20. Danish Gooner

That Gallas is an accident waiting to happen. If we can win the league and cl with the comedy twins i am gonna shack my goldfish.

  21. Big Raddy

Finest, it could and more to the point should have been much better. Ade’s miss early in the first half set the tone. We just were not clinical enough in the final third.

Credit must go to their defenders, because the only time Theo (or anyone else) got behind their defence , we scored.

But I would have taken a point prior to the game, and it would be churlish to be pissed off now.

  22. Jules1

    Seb,

lol. It’s ok to slaughter the team, the manager and the directors, but when you take issue with the people who do so, that’s not ok.

  23. hounddog

In fairness the pen was a pen and can not be classified as cheating!!! Granted some refs would not have called it but Sagna had his arms around the guy and you just can’t do that.

  24. finestcuts

The salvaged point helps…..I need to see a replay of that penalty, I have a feeling it was not legit. Kiev got their tactics right overall, closed down space, made movement difficult, problem is when teams do that we don’t always have a plan B.

  25. A

It was never ever a penalty. First look it appeared stone wall, watching the replay it was horrific cheating by the kiev attacker, who “cleverly” had his left arm round sagna, practically ripping his shirt off his back and threw himself forwards pulling sagna on top of him. Made it look like definite pen, it was actually a foul on sagna! as every pundit has pointed out.

You’re right seb, it was the same last season – we can’t play our football with only one playmaker, we needed two of Cesc, Hleb, Rosicky last season, and this year just substitute nasri for hleb. We can still win without them, but can’t play the true arsenal way. VP, Bendtner, and Vela can/could help out to an extent, but it’ll never be the same.

  26. Seb

G07 I couldn’t agree more about Eboue, he had real drive forward, his passing was 95% accurate and I think he gave the team the boost they needed to keep attacking. He is a great squad player to have imo, he is fearless.

Credit to Theo for keeping on going despite some shocking treatment, he got his assist as reward (I think).

  27. hounddog

Big Raddy, Ade and Cesc should have taken their chances when they had them. You right though, before the game I think we would have all settled for the point.

  28. Evo in Oz

    gooner07 – great points!

id like to add Wenger needs to bite the bullet earlier and not persist with something that is clearly not working for so long!

Eboue looked keen and attacking from right back immediately, so that was fine.

Bendtner and vela had no chance to make a difference, we didnt have the ball enough for them to score.

that ref easily missed 2 mins of added on time IMHO

  29. A

you’re right finest, it was 100% not a pen, not an iota of doubt. sagna had both his arms in the air, but the kiev bloke’s arm coming back round sag also looked like is was sag holding, when you see the replay it isn’t. incredibly impressive cheating though however despicable, not a single person scrutinising the replay would give it as a pen, but 99% of people seeing it at first would call it in a second

  30. Evo in Oz

only criticism for me on the pen was Sagna had no chance to head that ball in the challenge cause the kiev guy was jumping in front of him, sagna need to be backing his back into the guys guts from the front

  31. jlp

    good day grovers
close call. another dubious penalty but overall a good point taken.
well said seb cesc isn’t quite as potent as he was last year at this time .i think nasri will give him that outlet he needs .i am gonna go with theo over rosicky however he will learn his space and he seems to be floating more and more each game as for Ade the guy really does have to learn his timing .at 20 you can understand lack of composure at 25 he just isn’t learning

  32. TJ DA GOON

Lacklustre. Song did OK but him being in there crowded the middle and negated the creativity of Cesc and Denilson. Cesc couldnt get into the game and RVP out on the left is something, as a gooner, u never want to see again. I reckon if we played the starting 11 against BB we would have had a much better/comfortable night. I loved the impetus EE gave us when he came on and although i’m glad we got the point i’m still livid with Billy for that shambolic performance. Forget the fact the penalty (which was never one) came from his mistake. The shot they had that hit the post came from an even worse error. A couple of times he knocked the ball down to Bangoura ffs. Nobody really stood out and i hate it when we make average teams look world class. Now for a positive……we played shit (on a par with the Fulham performance) and got something out of the game.

  33. Gooner07

finest, I agree with your point. But tonight, there was no need for plan B (at least) until that shambolic penalty, when you get chances like we did. We had decent chances to score – side netting, straight at keeper, and wide enough blazers, but strangely nothing into the net. I’m sure Wenger would be speaking to his players tonight. It’s important to convert the chances, as we saw today, a single dive could turn things the other side.

  34. Big Raddy

    Of course they should Hounddog.

The slagging that the defence is receiving by some people is just not justified. We were playing a CL side, not shit like Bolton, and they had TWO shots on target, one of which was the pen. Yet according to some, Gallas is a dreadful player. How many headers did they win in our area? How many times was Gallas beaten on the ground? The one occasion he messed up with distribution, he was the guy who made the recovering tackle.

I accept that I can see a different game to some, but to me this criticism is groundless.

    I agree about EE27.

  35. hounddog

Finestcuts. I agree with you once again. Deep down we want to win every game with a clear cut result but unfortunatly in life we just have to accept something different some times. If we had taken our chances when we had them we would not have even worried about the pen. It was a definite pen in my opinion but it was one of those type pens that not every ref would call.

  36. Jules1

    Seb,

Yes. I understand this site. It is one where if you take issue with somebody who is being negative towards the team, the manager and the directors, your post will not be accepted. On the other hand, all abuse towards people who defend the team, the manager and directors is acceptable, including all the swear words in the dictionary.

Incredible set of double standards don’t you think ?

  37. dennisdamenace

Chaps – would we really have taken a point before kick off?? I’m not so sure, as imho i believe Kiev to be the weakest team in our group……..

  38. Gooner07

“Bendtner and vela had no chance to make a difference, we didnt have the ball enough for them to score.”

Exactly right Evo. Wenger is not always right with his subbing. He needs to give strikers like bendtner a bit more time as they get into the game with their style, and posture. They clock their speed to optimal levels as they lack pace, but rely on timings, and spatial gaps. Vela OTOH needs to start a game ASAP, he’s good enough to impose himself in the game even in last few minutes unlike a bendtner, so to speak.

  39. hounddog

Big Raddy, my point exactly. Some on here have posted without thinking, there has been some pretty stupid remarks made. The pen turned the game, up to then Kiev were no threat.

  40. paul

The comments we sometimes make are made of frustration in being a supporter of the team you love whoever they are.I watched my first live Arsenal game in 1967 i have had my head kicked in for wearing our colours.I give my all at the Emirates even though i am surrounded by the prawn sandwich brigade. If i came home and found my wife in bed with Cesc i would go downstairs and make them a cup of tea.I love Arsenal and always will but will always say it as i see it.

  41. raif in turkey

    hello people.

ı thought that was shıt and ı couldnt understand why dıdnt Wenger play Vela on the left

and them cunts ın whıte are dırty lıttle trıcksters.

also does what was wenger complaınıng about as ı was watchıng the match at the hotel bar were they was havıng a Kareoke seasıon. so ı was watchıng the match ın Mute.

  42. Seb

Jules I used to think that myself a while back, but once you actually get to know people and their opinions, there are actually very few that make personal attacks.

I think if you read through the last few weeks of posts you will see plenty of people defending players, the manager’s choices, the way the board is running things, etc. And you will see plenty of people unhappy with exactly the same things.

The point is how you react to others comments – do you present your own opinion, or just criticise others? The guy tonight presented nothing of his own. If he had said, ‘I don’t think Gallas has been as bad as some think, imo he did a good job of x y and z’ then fine, instead he chose to label grovers as ‘hypocrites’ and ‘whiners’. Personally I don’t find that acceptable behaviour. Sorry if you do.

  43. choy

well i think wenger wanted a draw wasn’t it .. well thats what we got!!

negativity before the game.. 4-5-1 without hleb or nasri.. will just not work…

who was the best player for arse? theo?

  44. Evo in Oz

i personally dont think Gallas had a super bad game. we were playing so far up the pitch in the 2nd half as a whole team, we were always going to get sprung on the counter.

  45. paul

Those who think we were critisising should have taken a look at Wengers actions he was not happy either,Remember Kiev have not won in the CL for four years

  46. Evo in Oz

yeah attacking subs made between 80-90 mins make it difficult for the player to actually do anything. they at least need from 70 mins or 60 if possible

  47. Jules1

    Seb,

I’m sorry mate. But you haven’t addressed the point about double standards. The abuse on here towards people who attack people who defend the team is accepted. However, the people who criticise the people on here for being negative is not accepted. I only had to spend a small amount on this site to confirm this, and the longer I view the posts, the more confirmation I get.

You have bought into this culture, but you are probably a very civilized, and nice guy. It’s very sad.

  48. Ateeb

    Evo:
What the hell are you talking about Vela and Bentdner and giving them time? Are you forgetting the imact Bentnder had last season coming off the bench in the dying moments? It’s called a tactical change, to take off a defensive midfielder and bring in an attacking player. Usually happens when u’re losing a match.

  49. hounddog

By the way Wenger was complaining about the stoppage time. He said it was not enough. Also the football pundits have all agreed, it was a pen!!

  50. hounddog

Okay we have a point in Kiev, not the end of the world. More important issues now are that we put in a winning performance at Bolton.

  51. finestcuts

They’ve seen the replay, if it’s stone cold, fair dos, that’s why I wanted to see it again.
1-1, we were not beaten, round 2 in London.

  52. Seb

Jules, I’m sorry, I don’t agree with you, And please don’t patronise me in the way that your last sentence did. I haven’t bought into anything, I know what I read here and I enjoy being part of the debate. I don’t enjoy arguments, I enjoy discussion.

If you don’t like the site then don’t read it, as it is a lot of people do like it and are quite happy with the way it works. The ones that aren’t happy, leave.

  53. hounddog

Now this is interesting, as I just said, the pundits on Sky all agreed it was a pen. I was just watching the after match comments on German TV and the German pundits said it was not a pen!!! What a crazy world we fans live in. It is all about opinions….nothing else.

  54. mark

Of course it was a penalty … we’d have gone mad if it hadn’t been given against one of our forwards. I think Ade should shut his gob stop bigging himself up in the papers and realise that he’s a very very average player with the luck of the gods to be playing for a team like Arsenal. And when we need strength and skill and the best we can do is bring on Niki B then we know we will not win anything again this season unless we buy 2 or 3 players in January transfer window …. of course hoping by then that we are still in position to win things.

  55. Gaz Southport

Just an observation. I don’t understand something that the Ref kept on doing tonight. Whenever a Kiev player went down injured for no apparent reason for long periods of time, the ref would stop the game even when Arsenal had the ball, sometimes ages after the incident. Am I imagining things or did this happen a few times? Seems like blatent cheat on Kiev’s behalf and the Referee was falling for it.

I think Wenger was more upset about this than the Pen incident.

  56. Evo in Oz

ateeb – are you smoking hash?

yes i remember bendtner scoring the thunderous header against the spuds for his first touch of the ball to secure us the 2-1 win and then again in the 1-1 draw with villa on 90 mins to get us the equaliser. great stuff, yep remember it all.

i was merely saying i prefer an attacking sub to come on after 65-70 mins to give them time to score the winner/s needed to get the 3 points.

yes its way more exciting to steal a game with a person subbed on at 85 mins and they score the winner on 92 mins, but how many times does that happen?

  57. Kalle

I did not get why Wnger did npt sub Van Bullshit and The Walcock. Even though Gallas was as bad. I thought that MoM was by far SONG and as soon as he went off we wer in difficlut situation.

  58. mark

Houndog …. sorry for the doom and gloom but see it more as reality. But reality also says that a draw away in Moscow is not a bnad result as long as we bang in some goals in the return leg. I won’t make any copmparison to Spurs … but one thing they have got going for them is the only way is up.

  59. Ateeb

    Mark:
aww you poor boy. Who would you wanna see come on for us off the bench? Kaka, Messi or Ronaldo? Maybe that won’t satisfy your appetite either. How about Pele or Maradona?
Who do chelsea have to bring on? Assuming drogba and anelka are already playing, well they have solomon kalou.
Who do Manu have to bring on, in the midfield if theyre not playing well? fletcher or Anderson?

  60. TJ DA GOON

    Hounddogg,

The pundits ur referring to are Glenn Hoddle, Ruud Gullit and Graeme Souness. Three great players in their day but three of the worst pundits ever!

  61. Ateeb

    Evo:
Unless you were on hash urself, you might have spotted that Niki B was brought on at 70mins. Just the way your majesty like your substitutions. Vela came on in at 83. Usually you don’t make all your substititions at the same time, because that stops the rhythem of the game.

  62. mark

Ateeb …sorry I don’t get your point. I want good footballers to play for Arsenal not average players. Fine if you are content with that then remain content with trophyless seasons. All the players you mention are by far better than the Nicki B’s of this world … why shouldn’t Arsenal have such class in depth instead of crap like Nikki B.

  63. Ateeb

    Mark:
What other average player scores 30 goals? Come on dude, stop the ade bashing. Seriously, it’s not even funny anymore. 3 days ago you’re praising, and then if we draw, you make ade the escapegoat.
According to your logic, ROnaldo, Tevez, and Rooney are average players too, because they all also drew their match.

  64. Evo in Oz

no shit shirlock – if your having a crack at my opinion just say it directly. if your having a crack at my level of footballing knowledge/nous – say that also!

  65. finestcuts

Everyones moody after a draw, some dude wouldn’t mind Fabregas shagging his missus…….I don’t understand that for a second, unless your wife is really ugly and you want the kudos that Fabregas wanted her it doesn’t make sense, any woman who cheats on me is finished, she’s the one that let the dude in.

    Anyway, we’ll beat Bolton.

    Goodnight.

  66. Jules1

Evo. I won’t be able to have crack at your opinion. It won’t get past your censors. That’s the point I am making. Before you know it, my posts will be blocked, and I won’t be able to debate anything. The people that run this site have decided that you can’t answer for yourself. That is my objection. I actually think you are more intelligent than that, and that you can either persuade me to come around to your thinking, or I can persuade you to come around to mine.

  67. Ateeb

    Mark:
Class? What other team has class sitting on their benches? Unless they’re being supported by a billionaire. Seriously dude you need to wake up. It’s not like I don’t like to win, but time to get realistic about some things right? How much have you seen Niki B to actually criticize him as yet?
We have Eduardo, who by the way is CLASS, and will be returning soon. Vela, whose young but looks promising. What else do you want? Name me 3 teams which have a CLASS of 5 strikers to choose from(excluding MANU, who has a trade-off with their midfield). Liverpool? One good striker. Chelsea 2 strikers.

STop playing championship manager online. That makes you always want more.

  68. mark

Ateeb … the difference with Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez is that they all have skill and can play good football. Because they lose doesn’t take that away from them. Ade on the other hand is very average in the skill and good football department and whether we win, draw or lose he’s just an average footballer. Arsenal deserve. and need better, to win us trophies.

  69. Geoff

Ateeb, you can’t accuse people of playing championship manager and you need to stop saying Dude.

Sorry for the guys in moderation, I only just got on.

  70. Ateeb

    Evo,
Not having a crack at your opinion. I mean you shouldn’t really have an opinion about when bentdner was brought on? I mean you were complaining that he should have been brough on arnd the 70mins zone, and i just told you that he was brought on at 70mins, just the way you wanted. There is nothing to have an opinion on that issue, you just got your facts mixed up. But you can have an opinion, if you suddenly go berserk and say ” NOOOO!!! I want my substitutions at 55 mins exactly”. Then we can have a discussion, and not an argument. Just the way you like it. And while you’re at going away, how about taking Mark along, he might need a hug, untill january transfer windows approaches again.

  71. Orangooner

where’s the free-flow passing game we used to play? i have to say don’t be blind supporters. this Arsenal is simply not good enough that a better team would have battered them.. especially with AdeBADyor as our main striker. even when he is on fire, a relative better striker with as many chances as he has would score two hat-tricks when he could get a hat-trick. that’s all.

  72. Evo in Oz

jules – which sensors are you referring to? i live in Sydney, Australia. I think pedro and geoff both live in London from memory, i have nothing to do with their site, except for giving my opinion on here. i dont think they have shares in le-grove, i certainly dont have any if they do, although if they did it probably would be a good investment as people are keen to come here and have a say!

  73. Ateeb

    MArk:
And while you’re complely ignoring my c omments, on the lack of squad depth in every other team, lemme take on your next rational argument. Ronney ronaldo and tevez have skill and good players. Ade on the other hand doesn’t because he s cored 30 goals last season. Hmmm….interesting. Are you forgetting that we have other players as well? How about cesc when compared to scholes, or Nasri to nani? Or lately eboue to park? Or theo to whoever you wanna compare? We dont have class?

  74. Evo in Oz

ateeb – what a fucked up comment mate….you seriously want me to give mark a call and tell him that he and i are out of here cause you told us so?

  75. Ateeb

Evo you didn’t need to take that part of the comment seriously. It was a joke. Remember laughter?
Geoff, wow, you’re being awfully nice tonight and welcoming.
And what exactly do you have against sarcasm?
