Wengerism: A type of deception in the form of an untruthful statement

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Morning Grovers,

Firstly, can I say thanks to all the Grovers who stayed up an waited with baited breath for a signing last night. You truly are some of the most hardcore supporters out there and Arsenal are lucky to have you.

Secondly, a quick mention of Man City. Football is sick, sicker than it has ever been. We now have the might of an Oil Nation trying to push a Club to the top of the Premiership. I was pretty certain at the start of the fun and games last night that Berbatov would never move to a club no more appealing in stature than the Spuds… and he didn’t. Then the shock news came in that Robinho had moved to the Eastlands. What an unambitionless little prat… that move is up there with Cashleys, but at least he moved to a club that was already winning things (I loathe to defend that little toe rag).

I am still convinced that you can chuck as much money at City as you want, but they won’t break into the top 4 because you can only start 11 players… The best players will still always want to play with the best clubs with the most prestige. No amount of money in the world can buy you history or a soul.

Man City might be appealing for a bit, but they’ll always be a small club in the eyes of a superstar footballer and they’ll always be second best next to Manchester United. I hope this experiment flops on a grand scale… but it still sickens me to think that the goal posts have been moved yet again…

Onto Arsenal.

I feel very let down by Arsene because once again I was lured in by his lies. That is why I have created a new term…

A Wengerism: A Wengerism is a type of deception in the form of an untruthful statement, especially with the intention to deceive others.

Do you feel deceived? Wenger has lured us in all summer with the promise of signings, the promise of players staying and the promise of being satisfied as fans. He only said this a couple of days ago,

“We are ready to stay up all night if it is needed,”

“This season it is at midnight on September 1 so you never know. We have still a long time to go.

Indeed he was prepared to stay up all night, apparently in the M25 traffic after attending the reserve game. If you want a list of all the other lies spewed this summer, read here.

Wenger, when you are a fan, all you want is a little bit of honesty from the club. If you’d have come out at the start of summer and said,

‘Look, here is the deal. I’m going to chop a few players out of the squad, and I am going to only replace a couple of them. In the middle of the park, we reckon Denilson is going to make the jump and if he doesn’t we have Song and a Diaby’

Then we could have at least prepared ourselves mentally for what is in store for us. Instead you lead us all to believe you were going to purchase and you failed miserably.

Our title hopes now rest on Song, Diaby and Denilson. Do they even have 100 Arsenal games between them? Can any of them boast a full season of fitness? It’s a sorry state of affairs when a club as huge as Arsenal has to take a risk like that… I’m all for giving youth a go, but how about giving the fans a break every now and then? Do we not fit into this masterplan somewhere?

I’m sick to death of you this summer… I love what you have done for the club over the years, but I think all the blogs will be united in believing that we are once again woefully short in the middle of the park.

It doesn’t matter though, because you’ve made you bed… now you must lie in it.

You will have no excuses come the end of this season because,

  1. You had the money, despite trying your best to deny it.
  2. You knew about the crocks (RvP, Denilson, Theo, Eduardo, Diaby, Song, JD…etc).
  3. You’ve had time .
  4. You knew the players were young .
  5. You publicly stated you needed experience.

So you will get my support once again Arsene, but be aware… it is wavering.

If it all goes tits up at the end of the year… you’ll have no one to blame bar yourself.

i fully disagree on united/city future ratio. remember chelsea and who was the no. 1 in london to the whole world before abramovich took over them? yes, that was us and now it’s changed dramatically. the globe sees chavski as no.1 club in london and partly in uk with arsenal as runners up… this will repeat in manchester, jes give a time. apparently a couple of years will be enuff bar solemnest of solemn dr. sulaiman wont throw the toy away by that time. yes, they might have no heritage as we do and so on but dont forget that any history can be overwritten to match what ruling clique wants to hear… this is the paper which can suffer anything and new generations coming will eat it very well…

    JJ

So what you are saying is that something gave when Chelsea became chelski. Exactly, & this tme it could be Manure falling from grace. Which is fine by me. Stay tuned for the slap fest. It’ll be worse than 2 drunk shielas cratching & biting, etc …….. Fuck manchester forever

  3. Gidster

You doom and gloom merchants, yer all a bunch of girls. Talking about boycotting a match. What a crock of absolute shit. Right, yeah, you’re all pissed at Wenger coz he didnt deliver some world class midfield player on deadline day. But dont take it out on the players. What have they ever done to deserve anything other than our support?

Where are yer balls? If the lads took their lead from the attitude shown by 95% of the contributors on this forum they might as well give up. But the players wont give up, they’ll carry on playing the best football out of any team. Listen to Cesc talk about Arsenal, about his love for it, about what he wants to do with us. That kid is magic. Thats The Arsenal Way. Odds stacked against us? Fight back! That slow little funny Spaniard has more Arsenal in him than any poster on this board. He gets it. He’s got balls like water melons. You think he’s fazed by City and their money? By Fergie and Berba? By Big Phil and his Monster Midfield? Fuck is he… he dont give a shit, he’s gonna put his Arsenal shirt on and play every single one of those fuckers off the park. Or he’s gonna die trying. And you want to boycott a match and miss the privilege of watching Cesc and The Boys wearing The Red and (not quite enough) White?

You want rid of Wenger? I guarantee Cesc goes if Wenger goes. I guarantee Top 4 goes too. And our football will disappear and be replaced by the identikit safety-first shit that you get from just about every team in Europe. I feel a bit let down by Wenger, but Im a Gooner and Im not about to boo our team, or boycott a match, just because Gokhan Inler or Xavi Alonso didnt get signed. Their loss, not ours…

    gidster
What have they ever done to deserve anything other than our support?

you mean ade trying to flirt with other clubs ? and demanding a pay rise?
or hleb and flamini leaving ?
gallas chucking a hissy fit at the brumby game ?
Also clichy timed a well executed bit of journalism at the transfer season closure,
anyone with half a brain knew he was helping wenger with his propaganda !

i can almost guarantee Top 4 goes regardless !
Unless Fans with some REAL BALLS defy wenger or the club , NOTHING will fucking change!!!!!!!!! and history is on my side ! 3 years without silverware and almost certainly number 4 on the way !!!!

other clubs spending is undeniable ,
and dont worry ill be here to remind you of your vision next may !!!!!

    favre
EVERYONE is already behind the team , they wear an arsenal shirt dont they ?
thats why we are here ! But to just sit back like gidster and accept it is not the hallmark of a true fan !

all your saying is you dont give a fuck about the direction of the club and AKB !
    bollocks to that !

    hey george

  5. ethangunner

    george

hes probably in Spain again :)

    mr jetset ! :)

    rob
ive just had a gutful of the name calling !
everyone can have an opinion . and gidster is obviously targeting pat .
because he chooses to make a stance ! and not spend money with the club ..
    boycott the games etc..
or maybe he’s having a go at me , because i would rather deal with reality than
make this summers transfer activity a delusional Positive for the club !
I think what pat is doing is admirable ! but i also dont think 1 person makes a difference ! ( would i do it ? probably not ! ) but he should be respected and not called a girl !
i got mixed up in it earlier last night .. i was trying to defend peoples right to an opinion when BR came on and said oh too much doom and gloom in the room !!

its the same as walking in on a funeral
and say why all the sad faces !
    fuck !

    i mean come on :)

sure we can celebrate and start measuring our dicks when we have some silverware
to dust in our new stadium !
but the reality is since we’ve been at the emirates , weve won fuck all
and lost all our star players !
but some people just want t get on with it !
get on with what ? MORE LOSING ?

  6. finestcuts

Ethan, none of us want to lose, every Arsenal fan was hoping for a midfield re-inforcer, but because we didn’t get that one player, have our chances diminished.
Because football is turning into a Sodom and Gommorah of billionaires turning clubs into circuses and using the Premier League as a tool to raise their public profile, should we give in and go with the tide, forget footballing values of self-sustainance and stick our assess out to some rich fucker who treats the club like his little slut….then slut asks for more, she’s gonna get more money from this rich dude, she knows all she has to do is open her ass.
We have a chance to win, just because Robinho has joined City doesn’t mean he’ll single handedly propel them into being a super club, their team leaves a lot to be desired.
Liverpool have used the chequebook model for years, without success. Manyoo haven’t always been successful despite making huge transfers, a few seasons ago they were in the doldrums considering letting go of Ferguson.
We should never write of Arsenal, never under-estimate Arsenal. Our players are faster, more technically skilled as a team than any other team in the Premier League.
What UEFA need to do is to stop this financial debauchery, we should only have clubs
who have earnt their money out of football, we need to drive this corruption out of the game not get involved.
We all want Arsenal to win, the players need to be tough and not care about the name on the players shirt….thae attitude should be “Robinho? Yeah I can tackle him.”
“Peter Cech? i can score against him.” Because we can, and we will. We’ve taken on big European teams and they’ve been amazed by our teams. Lets not underestimate our players, they are capable of greatness, the Premier League is decided by fractions and there is a bit of luck involved in football that no one can take or give away, but if Arsenal play consistently well, which is Wenger’s goal, we have a chance
to win. In football you can never tell who will win or lose, never, there will always be unpredictable events happening. Injuries, penalties, corners, pieces of genius individual skill.

    nice post finest

this is exactly the mentality we need to adopt, this is what the players need to feel from the fans now. Griping about a lack of signings during the season will do us no favours whatsoever, it’s time to support the team AND the guy who picks it, when the wheels come off then we can start shouting at the driver, but until then we need to be pulling in the same direction as the players, not trying to make it worse for them.

And agree re the money, whoring ourselves out to anyone would be a sad sad day for the club.

  8. kelsey

Morning Pedro. What a knowledgeable fellow finest is,he is a credit to this blog, not many like him.Iam not arse crawling,i am from a different generation.Anyway the bottom line is that Eboue has replaced Senderos as Wengers love child.I think I know enough about football that I cant see any attribute he brings to the side, except as cover for sagna.Agreed. Having red ken friar’s report, there is nothing we didn’t know before, except that wenger made his decision not to spend,or at least not offer enough for inler and alonso,so the buck stops with him,so let us see what the next few months bring.
Question,if we did sell out be it right or wrong, apart from maybe wiping out the stadium debt, would wenger actually change dramatically his policy,i think not.

  9. favre

    Well said finest.
And ethan im not saying i’m fine with wenger not signing anyone, because i certainly am not. But what can we do now? Are people actually gonna boycott games, just to say we’re pissed with wenger and the board? What do you think cesc and the rest of the team are going to think? Do you really think cesc is going to want to stay at arsenal then?

  10. Catford

Good point Kelsey. Arsene with unlimited funds? I don’t think he’d last 2 weeks. He’d soon head off back to France to continue his experiment. I don’t think he’d be comfortable with the demands and expectations that mega dosh would bring.

  11. Seb

I don’t know Catford, he has spent big in the past, check out his first season:

    Remi Garde Strasbourg Free 14-08-1996

I don’t think he is averse to spending, but he is just not spending at the moment. As we know.

  12. kelsey

I think the ideal way forward is to have dein back at the club,so wenger can get on with what he does best, but unfortunately dein is tied up with the russian and that doesn’t bode well.
Boycott, forget it,throw your tickets away or burn them, another 30000 fans will come and watch. The only thing that gets me is when we play hollywood football, nearly everyone agrees we are the best team to watch.that’s fine for the neutrals but i would sacrifice some of those games to actually win some of those games when we have upwards of 70% possession and still try and walk the ball into the net,and finish up drawing or losing.Wenger only really has plan A and more and more teams are learning to stop the way we play.A physical presence is needed in the side too many lightweight players, theo is an example, only my opinion.

  13. Pedro

Ok Pat… change Ferrari for property… The fact remains the same… you can only play 11 players… you can only be so prolific, you can only be so creative, you can only be so solid.

It doesn’t matter if they assemble a billion pound team, they are still 11 men. If it didn’t work for Madrid and Barca, it wont work for City.

The big 4 wont roll over and as long as we have a good manager in charge, we’ll compete.

  14. Pedro

    I bet we won’t see a £100million player… no way.

We are a tiny Island, you can’t justify those prices.

They said we’d see a £100million player when Abramovich came in… have we got anywhere near that? No…

Market prices will still say the same or continue to fall.

  15. Pedro

Gooner Michael… having £9billion doesn’t make you second rate… having Manchester City as your brand makes you second rate.

If Arsenal offer £30million for a player (Dream land) and City come in with £60million… the player is more likely to want to play for Arsenal, so the City offer is irrelevant, just like it was for Berbatov.

Club prestige still matters for the best players, that is why you wont see ronaldo jumping ship to City.

  16. John

Just stumbled on this blog. Some decent points in the article but I think Geoff is dreaming if he thinks that PHW et al are monitoring the likes of this.

Media intelligence / press clipping services do not cover blogs extensively, your ego is getting a little carried away…
