Spectator shame – Lightweights? – Ade booed… again

Morning Grovers!

First up… a record! Well played everyone, we nailed 1000 comments!

That is a massive achievement considering all we talk about is Arsenal all day long… It wasn’t so long ago that me and Geoff were high fiving over 17 comments in a day… oh how times have changed!

So well done to Geoff for a great post and well done to the Grovers for making this site the best place to be if you are Gooner!

So, what of the game?

Well, first things first. We’ve had a pretty poor summer Arsenal wise and it was going to be interesting to see how the gates would be affected by the poor start and the exodus of players…

Well, I can shamefully tell you all that the ground was disgracefully empty. Now before anyone tells me the compere said there was 61,120 people in the stadium… Let met tell you that the figure he shares is based on tickets sold. The Grove must have been below 56,000 last night and that is a real shame (Club Level and the normal seats were equally bad).

The starting line up looked a little like this:

Almunia

Sagna JD Gallas Clichy

Nasri Denilson Cesc Walcott

RvP Nik

Not a bad line up and in my eyes and all the right players had been dropped… sorry Ade/Kolo/Eboue.

The most apparent thing about our midfield was the lack of presence, they are like children out there… I originally thought it was just a height issue, but Nasri is 5ft11 apparently? I think it is more down to the lack of bulk. We don’t have and Essien or an Anderson… I hope Wenger takes that into account when signing a player.

The game went pretty much as planned… we over powered them with technical ability and held onto the ball nicely. Twente were a weak team and showed little imagination or interest in chasing the game.

There weren’t to many thrills and spills, so I’ll give you the player ratings and hopefully that will give you a good idea of where we stand.

Almunia: Had bugger all to do all day. 6

Clichy: Pretty quiet all game. He did a lovely back heel tackle in the first half which I though was pretty cool. Other than that, very muted. 6

JD: This guy attacks the ball unlike Kolo and Gallas. He has a major physical presence and a calmness on the ball Big Phil could only dream of… I really rate him and I hope he proves many doubters wrong. Solid performance and even a cheeky half volley to his name. I for one hope the partnership of Gallas and JD is a sign of things to come! 7

Gallas: Ok, I am in a minority here, but I rate him. He defended pretty well today and popped up for a goal after following in a Nikki B shot. He needs to regulate his attitude when things are going wrong, but there is no doubting his quality for me. 7

Sagna: Like his buddy Clichy, pretty quiet but with little to do… why over exert yourself? 6

Nasri: Picked the ball up outside the box, jinked inside, powered into the box and duffed it past the keeper. He also steamed into a couple of slide tackles without any regard for his safety… how unHleb like? Just what we need right! Oh… and incase you didn’t know… Hleb is struggling at Barca… mwhaha! After watching him a few times now, I can safely say this boy is going to be special. He is so much more interested in going forward than Hleb ever was. I love the way he pops up all over the park almost in a Pires like manner. 8

Denilson: Come on… do we really think this man has what it takes this year? Ok, so he set up Nik with a nice back heel… but lets not get all ‘Don’t you remember Eboue’s cross’ about this. He is not ready to take a starting berth. Maybe one day… but not now… buy someone for this century Arsene. 6

Cesc: A bit rusty today, but that is to be expected. Nice to have him back in the team… Nasri and Cesc look like brothers from afar (Geoff and I thought Cesc got the first). It is nice to have the ring master back in the team. 7

Walcott: Geoff said he was great… I said he was poor… Theo said I’ll have a goal and score it right in front of you and do it in a most Thierryesque way. Great goal, great effort and hopefully a sign of things to come. He looked hungry to prove the doubters wrong tonight and I think that goal will take a lot of pressure off his shoulders 10 (<- He is English so he gets a 10 ok?)… Just kidding. 7.5

RvP: Did a whole lot of nothing tonight. Shot wide with and open goal… hit a tame free kick… and that was about it. He didn’t get injured though! I don’t know what is up with RvP, is he trying to play in his comfort zone for protection? Is he low on confidence? Maybe he just needs a goal… come on RvP get it together man! 6

Nikki: Set up 2 goals and constantly tried to integrate himself into play. He even managed to get on the score sheet tonight after latching onto a Denilson back heel. Nik is a player that polarizes opinion… some say he is no more than a Championship player, some say he could be better than Ade. I think he is going to be a good player, lets see! 7

Subs

Ade: Came on to a chorus of boo’s/cheers… didn’t really do much in his limited minutes on the pitch. 6

Song: Played ok… got stuck in, but I’m still unsure of his role. Tonight he played in the defensive midfield role, but Arsene said he’d play CB? Lets see! 6

Eboue: Made a few nice runs, passed well and did ok by his standards. He was played out wide again… be thankful because that means the DM dream has died for Arsene. 6

So in conclusion, we played ok and got the job done. Lets remember though… we did it against a Steve Maclaren team… that is like beating an under 16′s team and bragging about it. I just hope Arsene doesn’t use this game as justification for a weak squad with a massive hole in the heart of the team.

Ade / RvP and Cesc all need to sharpen up in a speedy manner if we are to have any sort of impact on the Premiership. If Arsene signs a player, we need to pray he is a leader and a healthy leader at that.

Lots of work to be done, just be thankful we’ve banked £20million and pray Wenger spends it.

We’re back on track Grovers! Have a great day!

    riccooooooooooooooo hahah

    morning lady

  3. rico01 says:

Ho choy – a draw, but you are top of the board so take a bow

    :)

  4. rico01 says:

now that is spooky – both 9.06 and 9.07….!

Off to read now, and look forward to it

  5. Pedro says:

Guys, John Jensen reckons we will win at least on title this year!

He was super confident and he knows his stuff… look what he did with Getafe!

    Well said John!

  6. Seb says:

    lol at all the non-readers….

Agreed we need more bulk in midfield, good choice of word.

8 for Nik B? What were you watching? 7 for effort maybe, but 8 implies he got a few things right, which he didn’t, everything he touched turned to shit, poor lad. But I do rate him and want him to do well for us.

  7. Odub says:

1st to read a good post from the lads!!

Also congrats on a record day yesterday, needless to say instigated by probably the best post ever written on this blog!!!

  8. mark c says:

great result, lets hope we get a good CL draw, and a player before the weekend.

  9. Odub says:

Have to agree re JD, He’s 6 foot 3, powerful and qucik and although he looks doppy sometimes, he doesnt mind getting his hands dirty and won’t shirk a challenge even on his own team mates (remember him giving Wee Willy Gallas an ear bashing V WBA?!

-Dont look big next to a 6ft 3 power house do ya willy huh huh?!!!)

  10. rico01 says:

Pedro – great post, good read….

Nikers – 8 :( I thought he was dreadful, dump him and play Vela! ;)

  11. By the way I read it.

Agreed with your recap other than i thought Clichy was better than you did…his pace going forward is awesome.

  12. Pedro says:

Yeah, it was a great post deserving of a great day! Geoff and I appreciate all of your ongoing support for the site!

Seb, Nik set up 2 and scored 1! That is worthy of an 8 in my eyes…

Adebayor looked like a broken man when he came on… anyone else notice that?

  13. choy says:

    who is this lad?

    Link

  14. What’s going wrong with Robin? He was our worst player last night – he seems to have lost a bit of swagger?

  15. Seb says:

oh btw Pedro, typo in the title

  16. I think its time for the booing of ade to stop.

We’re stuck with him and we really need to see him hitting the back of the net again. He strikes me as a confidence player.

  17. rico01 says:

Robin needs a goal, and a decent strike partner – at the moment he has neither!

Anyone else think Vela and Robin together for Newcastle??

  18. choy says:

lol pedro he didn’t set up 2..

first he was going for goal and gallas just happened to be there…

second he lost possesion and luckily theo happened to be there…

but i have faith in the lad!!!

  19. gnarleygeorge9 says:

    Odub

Great summary of JD20. I think he’s gunna be good:)

  20. mark c says:

    Choy – he sounds unproven

  21. gnarleygeorge9 says:

    :)

  22. Pedro says:

I’ve no idea QoS… he doesn’t play like that for the Dutch does he?

    I think he needs a goal…

When you hit it as hard as he does, you have to be confident becuase hitting something hard gives you less margin for error…

That is the best excuse I could come up with…

  23. rico01 says:

Off for a couple of hours, but I will be back later to slate old Nikers :)

  24. Be just about perfect for us then Mark C….

  25. Pedro says:

    Cheers Seb…

Choy… he knew what he was doing… it was an assist ;-)

  26. gnarleygeorge9 says:

do you mean Little Nicky

  27. Seb says:

Set up 2 is a bit rich, 1 certainly (Theo’s), but he was going for goal and nothing else when Willy knocked it in. The rest of the game he made Adebayor look like Hleb when it comes to close control.

But it’s not a day for moaning is it, for once, so I will accept your opinion ;)

  28. choy says:

    hahah

  29. Pedro says:

    Ok… I’ll accept a 7 for him…

  30. Seb says:

Re RvP, to be honest I would be happy just watching him play and never score again as long as the rest of the team win the match for us. Even when things aren’t coming off for him, he just oozes class on the ball. You can guarantee a few moments of van Persie magic in a game.

I know this sounds stupid, but I can’t bring myself to slate one of our few truly world class players, even if he is going through a mini-crisis. I like to think of it as similar to Bergkamps first few games, where nothing went right – once Robin makes the net bulge, he’ll be fine.

  31. choy says:

yeah he’ll be alright seb he has to be.. “form is temporary class is permanent”

so what is this about nasri with the stomach bug.. is he not going to play against the toon army?

  32. charybdis1966 says:

On two players, I think 40% of what Bendtner tried worked – he carried on trying despite constant nibbles/shoves from their number 19 in the first half – and I noticed he was in Nik’s ear and face most of the time too, this may not have cxome across on TV as it was happening off the ball.

To his credit he wasn’t provoked and he didn’t hide – which is the right attitude, so full marks there.

The other player who needs a mention is Djourou – if he stays fit he is a much better bet than Toure, who I suspect will be pushed into midfield if we don’t get a DM, altohuigh the thought of that doesn’t fill me with hope for the forthcoming season.

  33. Odub says:

    Roll on saturday!!!

    My first visit to THOF!!!

With Cesc back, we look so much better, even though RVP left his shooting boots at Euro2008!

I also hope we still get a DM because Denilson is not the answer!

  34. Pedro says:

Chary, nice to meet you yesterday!

The chap who was sitting next to me had the same thought on Toure as you… its an interesting idea…

What about song… he played in the hole?

  35. Pedro says:

Odub, are you coming to the S+B?

  36. Just Stick It In ! says:

good stuff. anybody got a whiff of the de guzman story?

  37. Seb says:

Anyway, onto today’s draw – who will we get out of this lot?

    Pot one
    Scum
    Chavs
    Bindippers
    Barcelona
    ARSENAL
    Lyon
    Inter Milan
    Real Madrid

    Pot two
    Bayern Munich
    PSV Eindhoven
    Villarreal
    AS Roma
    FC Porto
    Werder Bremen
    Sporting Lisbon
    Juventus

    Pot three
    Marseille
    Zenit St Petersburg
    Steaua Bucharest
    Panathinaikos
    Bordeaux
    Celtic
    Basel
    Fenerbahce

    Pot four
    Shakhtar Donetsk
    Fiorentina
    Atletico Madrid
    Dynamo Kiev
    CFR Cluj
    Aalborg
    Anorthosis Famagusta
    Bate Borisov

My preferred group would be Arsenal Juventus Panathinaikos and CFR Cluj.
Juve – we will murder any Italian side imo, plus bit of glamour
Pana – chance to give Gil a proper goodbye
CFR Cluj – never heard of em, dont know where they’re from, sounds a bit like Clunge, probably at least one easy win for us.

  38. choy says:

    draw is tomorrow seb no?

  39. Arsenal Tom says:

Pedro, i agree about ade… he didnt look too interested, although being brought on at 3-0 (5-0) aggregate, hardly breeds ergency!

a couple of goals and a bit of love from te fans and he’ll be good as gold

  40. Odub says:

    Pedro,
I am indeed, Steve’s coming as well, we’ll meet around 3. Think DDM’s making an appearance as well.

  41. Seb says:

    no choy, today 1700 UK.

  42. Patrick7 says:

I thought NB was crap last night and would give him 4-5. Nothing went his way and his goal was set up by Denilson who also had a crap game; 2 metres out he just managed to slide it under the GK!

Almunia didn’t excel when he did come into play late in the game and looked a nightmare on a couple of occasions so El Tel will be on looking for his head later!!!!

De Guzman the latest connection: we’ll see…………………………………possible!

  43. Arsenal Tom says:

    choy, 5pm today mate

  44. Odub says:

Which is why I thought bringing on Ade was a bit daft!

We know he doesnt work well with NB
We know what he can (or cannot do)
Why not bring on Vela instead and play him with NB?!

    Strange substitution.

  45. Pedro says:

Tonight at 1700 live on talkshite!

  46. choy says:

oh ok thanks seb.. so some more excitement later…

where the hell is our new midfielder?

  47. Pedro says:

Odub… just to show him that he was dropped, not rested.

  48. Goonerman says:

Went racing yesterday so could not go to the match.

My son text me last night saying Eboue was booed yesterday so he gesticulated (hope spelling ok) to fans.

    True or false?

  49. Goonerman says:

Chary – AW has said that Toure has not got the stamina for CM role.

  50. Pierre says:

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is chasing Feyenoord’s tough-tackling Jonathan de Guzman as the ideal midfield foil for playmaker Cesc Fabregas. However, the Canadian-born 20-year-old will cost up to £12m. (The Sun)

  51. Pierre says:

on the game, I also thought NB wasnt good, why on earth Vela, ilshire and Rambo wern’t given a run out I don’t know, or at least brought on as subs, what was the point in bringing on Eboue and Song?

Still, good result, Geoff got it spot on with the 4 – 0, and the bindippers almost didn’t make it, they had to rely on luck (again)

  52. Arsenal Tom says:

    Wenger On central midfield…

“I think Denilson had a good game tonight. We have as well Aaron Ramsey – for me he will be a very good player – and we have Alex Song and we have Abou Diaby. Even Nasri can play central but we have to see.

i like the ‘but we have to see’ bit, hopefully theres somthing going on

  53. MorrowsBrokenArm says:

A wee bit off topic, but something you mention in the post Pedro that reminds me how frrustrating it can be to get to a game. I used to go week in week out man and boy. I left London 10 years ago or so, around the time Arse first introduced a registration scheme.

I was home 2 years ago and really wanted to take the wife to a game, turned up at the Emirates one day to try my luck at a ticket for any game…was informed i had to pay my 30pounds to become a red memebr if i wanted the right to buy a ticket….my wife would also have to pay up if she wanted a shot at a ticket…tough when you have a budget. Am home in a few eeks for a month and again am having a crack at sorting tickets for a game (any game)…i know it probs wont happen….then i hear Pedro say that there ere empty seats all over the show last night…yet still folks like me self can’t get in….just sad thats all….gripe over. Looks like we’re going to Charlton anyways…the missus will still get to enjoy a live game and dodgy half time pie.

Well done last night lads….both to the team on a fine CL win and Le Grove on the 1000 mark

  54. Jules says:

    Pedro

Sorry but I thought Bentner was awfull , first touch is poor .Bergy would give himself a yard of space with his first touch , Bentner gives a yard to the defender with his !!

Anyway , we are linked with DE GUZMAN

ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HIM ??????????????

  55. Arsenal Tom says:

i think he brought on eboue & ade … to try and get them involved in the win… to try and banish the fulham memory and replace it with this one

  56. choy says:

jules.. he’s about 5.9 that’s all i know about him.. read somewhere that he is like owen hargreaves and essien.. a mix of both..

news for all of you.. bitchslap is 6 weeks away from his debut.. from young guns

  57. Sarge says:

The steward next to us told us there were 49,000 people there last night. They get an update of the actual numbers for health and safety reasons apparently. A very knowledgable bloke who sits the near the missus said the club were waiting to qualify before committing any further funding to strengthen the team. That may be the intention – but will he or won’t he? Will the real AW stand up and give us a straight answer for once.

  58. Pedro says:

MBA… that is what annoys me.

People pay for the ticket and they’d rather leave it vacant than give it to someone else.

If you are a big company… give them to the lesser mortals… if you are a normal fan… give it to a mate.

I agree, it is unfair on the people who can’t get tickets through the normal avenues…

So much for the ticket exchange?

  59. Geoff says:

Morning all, I think Ade needs to apologise to the fans, until he does he’ll get booed, I think it will get worse.

  60. kelsey says:

    Good Morning Pedro,
I asked earlier about NB,to me he always looks sad or miserable but that’s not really the point,to me he isn’t an out and out striker.I said last week Ade couldn’t care a fuck now he is on 80K a week.RVP was to good a player, give him time, one goal and he will be off.Nasri looks the business, reminds me a bit like Sagna the way he has slotted in from day one.I agree we are still a bit physically lightweight, and finally Vela.I saw a lot of him last year,he will only get cameo roles at present,he is no wonder kid.Newcastle will be a test,I hate 5.30 kick offs, look at our record on games at that time, let’s hope things change..
Well done everyone for over a 1000 posts, and all done for love by Pedro and Geoff, amazing.

  61. Geoff says:

Arsenal used to count their crowd on people attending, not tickets sold, they must have changed their policy.

  62. Jamie says:

Great site, i’ve just discovered it and find the blogs extremely insightful and well thought out when compared to other blog pages!

I was at the game last night and thought the Reds did very well against a 20 team that offered very little. The wide boys played extremely well and i think this is where our attacking potential will be focused this season.

A bit concerned about RvP tho, put in a lot of efffort and you can’t fault some of the tackles he put in in the middle of the park, but everything he did infront of goal lacked composure.

    Lets hope its just rustiness!!

  63. Steve says:

    I think Clichy was a 7 1/2 personally.

So it’s a S+B early sesh on Saturday then? Happy days. I might get cunted, the squeeze is taking the kiddies out so no chores when I get home.

Did anyone hear that Harringey council have refused Tottenham permission to build a new ground at Northumberland Park?

They said that having a fairground twice a year was acceptable, but a circus every other week was out of the question.

  64. Jules says:

    Cheers Choy

Maybe the Alonso thing is now off as Barry is staying so this the next rumour ,

5.9 .. uhmm not that big !! But I guess nor was the Flamster

  65. Bergys says:

I would stil go 4 johnson of mancity.i remember we have been linked with guzmun before. But why o why put eboue on in nasri place?when u have a vela on the bench

  66. Seb says:

hey just had a thought, if we get Marseille in the draw we will have the pleasure of watching Lorik Cana eat Denilson alive!! that would be ironic…

  67. Steve says:

Geoff, if Ade puts in a few good performances and scores a few goals it’ll soon be forgotten. It’s a bit like having the hump with the wife. Steak and chips and a quick blowey and you forget all about it :)

  68. Jules says:

How about Johnson for 10 mill and SWP for 8 ????

WE would look like a squad then Would rather SWP on the right than eboue ,

Guys ,isn,t THeo much better cutting in from the left !!?? Henry style goal !!

  69. choy says:

according to wenger vela is busy globetrotting.. he’s off to jamaica next week!!

  70. Big Raddy says:

    Nice Joke Steve

  71. Odub says:

    lol Steve!!!

  72. kelsey says:

It seems Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor is not too happy with taxes in Britain. Asked what he would do if he became Prime Minister, the Togo international said: “I would try to keep down the tax. In London I would like to change the congestion charge.” (The Sun)

    Prime minister?????

  73. Jules says:

    lol steve !!

  74. Big Raddy says:

Interesting point about CL qualification before splashing the cash. Could it be true?

  75. Geoff says:

Welcome aboard Jamie, nice one Steve. I’d have Johnson and SWP but I’d sooner have Cana or Toulalon, what the fuck does Wenger look at???

Just buy someone that will make a difference.

  76. iceman says:

    Morning people!!

    4-0…..spot on Geoff…..Well done!!!!

    Congrats on the 1000 posts!!!

De-Guzman is 20!! How is that an experienced signing???

  77. Jules says:

    Geoff

I would love Toulalan , but doubt that will happen . 6.0 quality.

  78. Jules says:

i meant he is 6 foot

  79. Steve says:

I don’t think Johnson has the physical presence we require personally. I’d like a big ball winner to look after Cesc. Flamini wasn’t big but he certainly looked after his teammates.

  80. MorrowsBrokenArm says:

Steve; you just inspired me to have a barny with the wife. Steak and Chips sounds great!

  81. Steve says:

Also, a point that seems to have been overlooked is how shaky we still looked last night defending corners and how sterile we were in attacking corners. How many goals do the likes of Chelsea and Manc Ure get from set pieces compared to us.

  82. Seb says:

    kelsey that was pretty random!

  83. Steve says:

    lol Morrow.

  84. Duncan says:

morning all, fair game last night, more comfortable than saturday,. i hope we sign some one but i cant see it happening, Liverpool will keep Alonso as Gerrard needs an op so he’ll be out for 3 weeks,

on ticket front, this is the first season i haven’t been a member/junior gunner or something, i have given up on getting a ticket for a proper match, and seeing the stadium half empty really pisses me off, non of the proper fans can get in to improve the atmosphear

  85. Arsenal Tom says:

vela has just got back from international and is off to jamaica to play another 2 games in a week or so!

johnson isnt the answer… he’d be a good squad addition but not what we need, id take him but we need a flamini as a priority

  86. Odub says:

    Steve, agree mate.

The corner situation has to improve big time.

I mean we send RVP and Cesc out each time, and delivery still leaves a lot to be desired. What is the point of having 2 of them over there anyway?!!

  87. Seb says:

Phil’s comments from AC Milan official site:

MILANELLO – With already a good knowledge of the Italian language, Philippe Senderos today gave his first few declarations as a new Milan player before the afternoon training:

“I am very happy to be able to play for a team like Milan, for me it’s like a dream come true, everything went very quickly, in a week. Here everything is incredible, the people are very simple and I can say they have made me feel right at home.”

Philippe Senderos then talked about all his personal successes but for him the dream isn’t over:

“In the past I have achieved some satisfactions, like winning the European Championship with the Under 17 team and then of course at 18 my passage to a great team like Arsenal. in London I learned a lot, it was a life school and Wenger helped me, but today I can certainly say I have reached a superior level after joining this club. I want to give one hundred percent and improve myself every day. This team wants to return to the Champions League and I will do my best to help. When you will see me on the pitch? We’ll see how my condition improves, I still have to undergo some tests and then after the first league match there will be two weeks to work, we’ll see.”

So we have become a ‘life school’ for young players, who then bugger off to Milan. great.

  88. Jules says:

    Geoff

Do you think there is much in this de guzman thing or is it the press latching onto someone saying they would like to play for a certain club ie us ?

We are running out of options ! Also do you think Inler turned us down or Wenger
    turned him down ??

    Any inside info ?

  89. kenny smith says:

Pedro, what proof do you have that Hleb is struggling at Barca???

  90. finestcuts says:

Good morning, it’s nice to win 4-0, there are plenty of positives to take from the game.
But lets deal with the opposition first of all….Twente…..massive underdogs as McClaren himself said before the game. We were expected to win, and we did. Twente tried to match Arsenal’s game, wrong tactics McClaren, if it was to try and get some honour out of the game by ending with a draw, or holding out for a counterattack, it’s a complete waste of time at the Emirates, Twente should have thrown caution to the wind and had a go, play their own game not ours…..maybe a few long balls with a few good finishers charging into the box. But I’m not interested in analysing Twente’s performance, it’s ours that interests me the most. To belittle Twente would be unfair, they gave us a good game at home, Steve McClaren stuck on a few freshers in to give them a taste of playing in the Champions League while saving his best for his bread and butter game at the weekend. McClaren went for the happy go lucky option and didn’t really want to take risks…

Arsenal were back to playing good football, finally we see Johan Djourou getting the game he deserved, and once again he put in a good performance. Gallas chipped in with a goal again, a sign of commitment to the team, credit where it’s due….I’m still concerned about his Premier League performances….hopefully his form won’t dip dramatically again, a good response from Gallas, but we need to see a whole string of good games from him. Fabregas as expected made a tremendous difference and it’s good to see Wenger giving Song a chance in midfield.

We have a team for Newcastle…..same again please Mr. Wenger, the winning attitude is there….the team didn’t settle at 2-0 and try to lock it up, they kept playing and that was good to see. Sometimes you need to go for the lockup option but when you’re 4-0 up on aggergate….keep playing, it’s too late for them to score 5.

Please keep Djourou in….he’s a good defender, he has earnt his games, just because Toure is back doesn’t mean we should put him straight in…he’s not match fit, and….just keep Djourou….he’s good!

If we’re going to use Eboue, as a sub thanks very much, so no probs there. Adebayor will be feeling the heat for some time to come, if he’s ready to suck up to Milan and Barca in favour of our club and give us the “gimme the money treatment” he will piss the fans off. If he leaves and someone pay 35 million for him….thank you very much.
What will become of Bendtner? He is already a good striker and he will get better, don’t worry about that, and the lad is fully committed to playing for Arsenal.

De Guzman…..I can dig up a post many months ago when I talked about him….and this fella is a very good player. Wenger’s thinking out of the box…..everyone is calling for a central midfielder…..but Nasri can play there is necessary. So who replaces Nasri in that situation? De Guzman. Who can replace Walcott or Rosicky. De Guzman.
De Guzman could be the answer to all our problems…..if we get De Guzman that’s better than just getting a central midfielder. Oh and De Guzman is like Nasri….he can play anywhere in midfield. Super solution. He scores goals as well.

  91. Arsenal Tom says:

kenny, he made a plea in the press the other day for the fans to be patient with him…

nasri has already scored the same amount as we’d have gt hleb this year so fuck him

  92. Steve says:

I read an article this morning that said we are getting £5.2m now for Senderos, but with a clause that we can but him back next summer for a third of the price. So by my reckoning that would equate to a loan deal worth nearly £3.5m for the season if we want him back. If true then it’s top business.

  93. iceman says:

Finest, can De Guzman get “stuck in” if needed…..that’s the kind of signing we need….someone who can stand up to the bullies in the league…

  94. kenny smith says:

Arsenal tom thats good to here for me that he is struggling but do you have a link to this press article?

  95. Jules says:

    Finest ,

    good stuff ,

is de guzzmans primary role defensive midfield ??

I agree that nasri can play anywhere and is also cover for cesc being creative .

  96. Joseph says:

Did anyone notice? Cesc seems to have bulked up a bit during the summer.

  97. dennisdamenace says:

Greetings, over 1,000 posts yesterday driven by an excellent article……

Well the performance was good (taking the opposition into consideration), the result was excellent, the Guinness and Kopparberg were excellent, and Nikki B was average at best, very poor technically, which is more or less what his game is based on……

How can Arsenal announce that the attendance was 59,500 when it was obvious to even telly viewers that it was more like 55,000!?

  98. finestcuts says:

I don’t see why hleb is making a fuss, he has been in Spain for a few months now, he should be learning Spanish intensively not speaking for mercy. If you go to a foreign country to live there, even if it is for a while, it is your duty to learn their language and not expect them to adapt to you and your linguistic inadequacies…..learn Spanish Hleb. McClaren…learn Dutch. People in England don’t like it when foreigner come over and can’t be bothered to speak English, same applies to other countries.
I curently liv in Warsaw and used to know this knobend who has been in the country for 2 years and hasn’t even learnt how to order things from behing the counter, he still points at stuff like a retard….or goes to bars and orders in English without even asking if they speak English. Sorry but that’s stupid…..and Hleb, you haven’t learnt the vocab needed for playing football? Stupid.

  99. charybdis1966 says:

Pedro – nice to meet you too (and Geoff/Bud) and I hope the truer test of our recovery will be on Saturday so cheer the lads on and hope for the right result.

Next time We can share a peroni as long as the little chary’s don’t notice !

  100. JJ says:

    i do recommend. amazing.

  101. Wolski says:

Pedro – Board announced 59,500ish at the game….but looked much less.

Club level was poor in numbers for sure.

As for Ade..I agree…he looked down…I think he is struggling with the fan pressure and everyone not loving him as they did last season. The absence of his song is hitting him hard I think. Whilst I agree we need to get behind the team, I think he needs to be trueful and come out with an apology for his role in the summer antics. If he accepts what he did was wrong he may get the fans to accept him again. I felt sorry for him in a way…but……he deserves this….he has up’d his wages to what..80k a week…and he is sulking….and not performing.

Saying that it may give us a chance to see Vela more often alongside RVP or Nik..as i think he could be the creative, goal scoring player we need up there along side the others. Not sure any of the other combinations work.

  102. kelsey says:

If you read the daily Mail it reads like a done deal at 12million for De Guzman. Here’s hoping.

  103. Pedro says:

Sarge reckons it was 49,000 DDM!

    Mental!

    Sounds like a plan Chary!

    Back to the meeting…

  104. Steve says:

I don’t see how anyone can compare Nasri to Pires. Last night Nasri ran back 40 yards and made a great tackle. I don’t recall Pires ever doing that. The only tackle he ever made led to a goal against Juve if memory serves me correctly. Not critisising Pires here btw I love the fella.

  105. finestcuts says:

Yes De Guzman can get stuck in, he can play anywhere in midfield, but he’s usually used as a winger. He comes from the Dutch “Total football” school of training where they teach their midfielders how to play all over the shop.

  106. Jules says:

    finest

    mc claren learnt dutch ! l o l !

Finest can you answer about de guzzelers primary role please ?

  107. Steve says:

kelsey, if I had a pound for every done deal from Wenger I’d be able to buy the cunt myself.

  108. finestcuts says:

Jules, as mentioned above, he’s like Nasri, usually used as a winger, but can play in the middle as well, he’s a total midfielder.

  109. Jules says:

    cheers finest

    just like eboue then !!

  110. Jules says:

sorry I thought you said total cunt

  111. finestcuts says:

Sort of Jules….but De Guzman scores goals, he has about a 1/4 ratio, similar to that of Rosicky.

  112. Pablo says:

A much better performance all round last night but the opposition weren’t the greatest were they? I was quite shocked by the number of empty seats, maybe the beginnings of a silent protest? As I mentioned yesterday without the fans being there, the club cannot sell its merchandise. I suppose it was the day the worm turned, so Mr Hill-Wood think again before you open your big fat mouth. Without us, youl’ll have nothing.

    Well done on 1,000+ posts.

  113. iceman says:

He’s still 20 though….. does that count as an experienced signing? Or can we expect one more?

  114. Seb says:

it’s the usual media bullshit arsenal tom, it’s all on the back of the Sun printing two sentences that De Guzman probably said a year ago. Nothing more to it.

  115. Geoff says:

I’ll be amazed if we sign De Guzman. He looks like Clichy and is similar to Theo, don’t we need a Cana/Toulalon type? Also Finest, in that clip he didn’t look much like a winger.

  116. finestcuts says:

Geoff, he can play anywhere in midfield.

  117. finestcuts says:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZlkFSOdcAA

More De Guzman action, I hope we sign him.

  118. Geoff says:

Okay I look forward to what happens next, but I just read that Senderos feels moving to Milan is a superior move, cunt.

  119. Arsenal Tom says:

seb, your probably right but i need somthing to get me through the day!!! im sure wenger will come out before long and say he finished his shopping for the summer and destroy us all

  120. Seb says:

no return after remarks like that Geoff

  121. MorrowsBrokenArm says:

In Big Phils defence we shipped him off very quickly, as soon as we had a 31 year old to replace him. I’d be a little upset with the Arse.

  122. kelsey says:

    finestcuts does he speak french

I am surprised at the comment from senderos,i always thought he was a decent guy, another cunt to add to the list.

  123. Mandada says:

From the Feyernoord matches I’ve seen de Guzman plays upfront and was often paired with Roy Makaay last season. What we need is a pure defensive midfielder – a Mascherano -type.
Decent match yesterday but would wait for the Newcastle match to see if we’ve turned the corner!

  124. finestcuts says:

Wrong De Guzman above…we should looking at Jonathan…

  125. Geoff says:

That why I think Wenger has lost it, we persevere with him for 5 years and tons of mistakes, then let him go to Milan, where he’ll probably turn into a world class defender, why did they want him? and why didn’t we say we’ll have one of yours, is it Bojan?

  126. finestcuts says:

Kelsey, he should do growing up in Canada….they’re almost all bi-lingual.

  127. iceman says:

According to wikipedia he grew up in Toronto. They don’t speak much French there I’ll tell you that.

  128. Seb says:

I wonder if he gives the youngsters a chance until they’re 23, then says ‘enoughs enough’

After that they become expendable if we have sufficient cover – Hoytey and Phil both axed once big Johan had stepped up. It’s perfectly possible.

  129. Steve says:

Don’t mention corners Mandada, our defence will shit themselves.

FYI Feyenord’s De Guzman is described as a “midfield enforcer” inThe Daily Mail.

  130. Mandada says:

off topic guyz, but could this be the future for hleb http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/feedarticle/7758458

  131. MorrowsBrokenArm says:

Having read the articlees about Guazman I’m with Seb, looks like a nowt story, the guy made a coment about playing for Arsena/Barca would be his dream….not much more than that really…slow transfer gossip day so one paper runs with that, then the rest go with it. Oh well, sounded good for a while, I actually like the prospect of getting him, and by all accounts he is very capable of getting stuck in…and De Gauzman is always good in Champ Manager…and we know thats always the mark of a great player.

the arsenel vs 20 game is being replayed here on ESPN, will se how we played. Laters

  132. finestcuts says:

Just found out De Guzman has lived in Holland since he was 12 (Hence his eligibility for the Dutch national team)….so he probably doesn’t speak French.

“So soccer, which Bobby had played back in the Philippines before coming to Canada at age 10, became the sport of choice. Both boys showed promise and Bobby and Pauline hoped Julian could win a soccer scholarship to a big U.S. college. But he had different ideas. When Julian fulfilled his part of the deal and made the honour’s list at Cardinal Newman High School, his father took out his life savings and took the 16-year-old to Europe for soccer tryouts. He was signed by Olympic Marseille and went from there to Germany and then to Deportivo this season.

Having a child cross the Atlantic at 16 was hard on the family. It was even harder with Jonathan. “Mothers don’t want to let their babies go,” Bobby says. There were some big fights; Bobby figured that Julian had made the jump too late.

Ultimately, at 12, the baby of the de Guzman family was sent to live with a family in Rotterdam to play with Feyenoord.

For six years, Jonathan’s game percolated out of the sight of Canadians. He absorbed the lessons in one of the great soccer countries and became fluent in Dutch.

With his 18th birthday in September, Jonathan was finally eligible to play for Feyenoord’s first team.

His arrival caused a sensation. He scored three goals and four assists in his first nine league games, impressive numbers for a midfielder. Dutch soccer great Willem Van Hanegem wrote in his weekly column that de Guzman could be another Zidane. He gets stopped on the streets of Rotterdam for autographs.

“They’re relatively unknown (in Canada). Over there they’re stars,” Bobby says of his sons. “They’re recognized all over. I’m so proud. We’re walking around and kids and fans stop him for autographs and pictures. It’s an awesome feeling.”"

  133. Mandada says:

    Nice one Steve.

off topic, could this be the future for hleb http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/feedarticle/7758458

  134. Arsenal Tom says:

geoff, bojan is at barca… probably pato your thinking of… i agree tho… u get senderos for a year we get gattuso… thats our midfeild sorted

  135. Steve says:

Did anybody else read that we’re getting £5.2m for Senderos with an option to take him back in 1 year for 1/3 of that fee?

  136. finestcuts says:

But they got Flamini in for Gattuso…..Flamini is better than Gattuso. We need someone as good as Flamini or better.

  137. Steve says:

Gattuso is as slow as fuck. Flamster had him in his pocket last season.

  138. gazzap says:

there must have been 10,000 empty seats last night. OK so all the tickets were sold but club level, boxes and normal seats has empty spaces all round. midweek game with little riding on it is the reason. plastic fans cant be bothered with the hassle. wankers.

hope we get De Guzman but I wont hold my breath.

  139. kelsey says:

Agreed Geoff, why don’t we rape others clubs of their players instead of being a feeding ground for others,or you want him from us then we will have him from you.

What’s everyones gut feeling will we buy a player, not a schoolboy or not.i honestly don’t know myself.

  140. Arsenal Tom says:

fuck it then… u get senderos and give us flamini back!!! problem solved

  141. finestcuts says:

They’ve only got Senderos on loan, and i tell ya, when he comes back from Milan he’ll be ready….
Milan to win the UEFA cup.

Ronaldinho and Shevchenko up front….Shevchenko should get back to his best at Milan, they know him inside out…

  142. finestcuts says:

Milan are doing themselves and us a massive favour, they’re going to develop our defender and teach him to defend the Italian way….and they’ve got a Premier League quality defender for a season for next to nothing.
A lot of people forget how well he played against Milan in the CL game and how well he did in Toure’s absence, what better finishing school to send him to than Milan.

  143. Steve says:

finestcuts, are you a hairdresser or a butcher? Or a mafioso enforcer even?

  144. Phil says:

So Barry has pledged his future to Villa – surely we must strike for Alonso now. He would have made a big difference last night and Cesc would flourish beside him. Not sure if BEnitez will sell but why not ask. Gerrard’s injury may prevent this now…

I love the idea that we sold Phil and Matty to AC so we could get Pato – that would be great but pretty unlikely…

It is hard to keep your chin up being a Gooner at the mo – well that is until I get to work which is full of Spuds fans!!!!!

  145. finestcuts says:

I’m a Le Grove blogger, I can be a shopper now and again, I’m also an Arsenal fan..

  146. Arsenal Tom says:

thats if we get him back finest… if he decides he wants to stay there then we better get ready for norviedt in the 1st team squad

  147. Steve says:

Let me apologise for this in advance….

Victoria Beckham has admitted that she slept with Gary Glitter whilst he was in LA. Glitter has denied the rumours, he claims he was in Brooklyn at the time.

    Oh dear.

  148. Geoff says:

Listen if Senderos does well in Milan, he won’t want to come back, plus he’ll feel shat upon, given the incredible signing of Silvestre and the promotion of Djourou, we’ll never see him in an Arsenal shirt again, having said that we may never see him in a Milan shirt either!

  149. Steve says:

My interest was in your ‘Tag’ finest.

  150. finestcuts says:

They only got Flamini because his contract expired, from January onwards he was free to speak to other clubs about contracts.
Senderos is under contract, if Milan want to buy him, same deal as with Adebayor, put a price tag on and see how willing they are to pay it, and Milan don’t get ripped off…..they got Ronaldihno for 16m….what a coup…..they are shrewd businessmen, like Arsenal.
20 million for Senderos, that should make them lose interest. Erm, nope make that 25.

  151. finestcuts says:

Steve, I was inspired by a line in Marabou Stork Nightmares by Irvine Welsh, it’s a good book, see if they’ve got it in your local library.

  152. Geoff says:

My point is he won’t want tocome back so Wenger won’t keep him, he’s not really on loan though is he.

  153. Steve says:

I’m in prison finestcuts. The only literature I get is The Beano and Dandy.

  154. Big Raddy says:

Just been talking to a Spurs fan with contacts to the Board, who says that Veloso, Corluka and Arshavin are on their way to the Shithole, once Berbs signs for MU. Apparently Spurs are holding out for a large upfront payment.

That Spurs have the money is undoubted – they have a huge positive balance from their summer sales, and another £30 m from Berbs makes them cash rich.

Could this be true ? Well, they have only Dawson as backup CB, and King/Woodgate are severely injury prone. They sold Kachoul and Gardner, so there must be a replacement.

He also says that Pavlyuchenko is already bought, and should Arshavin eventually sign, then Bent is West Ham bound. Apparently Ramos thinks he is rubbish.

I realise this is just rumour, and that the only part of interest to us is the possible loss of signing Veloso. However, Ramos is a man with a mission, and Spurs would not make him the highest paid manager in the world (purportedly) if they were no going to give him the cash to create his own team.

So, if all this is true, (which is highly unlikely) I hope MU refuse to sign Berbs. Now that would be funny !

  155. finestcuts says:

You’re allowed to use the net in the nick these days Steve?

  156. Steve says:

Read my comment at 10.18 Geoff. Arsenal wouldn’t have inserted the clause if they had no interest in recalling the boy.

  157. Geoff says:

Do you believe that though Steve? good joke by the way.

  158. Steve says:

Yeah, they let me out for all home games as extra punishment too.

Only kidding mate, i’ll give it a try. I’m partial to a good read myself.

Anyway, i’m off to get pissed. Have fun Gooner Grovers.

  159. Geoff says:

I’m off for a while too.

  160. finestcuts says:

I suppose you could if you have a phone with the net on, just ask someone to bring it to you on visiting day, it’s a good book.

  161. Steve says:

It does make sense Geoff when you consider the age of Gallas and Silvestre. Maybe Wenger sees it as a no lose situation.

Anyway, I really must get pissed now. Adios.

  162. finestcuts says:

LOL, good one Steve…..I wasn’t sure for a minute, you can get allsorts smuggled into prisons….someone might have given you a phone with a net connection, heh.

  163. Arsenal Tom says:

raddy…. if that happens then our board should stand down out of respect for us.

biggest club in the world? challenge europes biggest clubs financially? attarct top players?? fuck off!

  164. Odub says:

You deserve to get locked up for that last joke Steve! :)

  165. The Oracle says:

off topic guyz, just saw the post that hleb is struggling at barca. i think i know what the future holds for him
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/feedarticle/7758458

  166. Pierre says:

I reckon JD could be the dogs danglies this season, like Flamoney was last year, the surprise package. How long is his contract tho, will he fuck off next summer?

  167. Pierre says:

heres a top joke from the sporting life

“Peter Kenyon believes Andriy Shevchenko provided value for money during his time at Chelsea.”

    :P

  168. Odub says:

    Pierre,

What’s happened to your half nekid avatar?!

  169. Seb says:

I see L’Equipe have linked us to Blaise Matuidi from St Etienne today. Despite the fact there is no quote from him or his agent or either club, and they even state that there has been no official contact! Some people will print anything….

So that’s Matuidi and Guzman so far today, could we be in for a bumper crop of bullshit transfer rumours today? In fact we will probably get a crapload over this whole weekend!

  170. Evo in Oz says:

gday all, back from the pub. congratulations on the 1000, i had to opt out at 940 in preference to beers at the pub…sorry i hope you will forgive me?

pedro – looks like we got the sub ratings the same…

  171. finestcuts says:

Stevie G will be out for a few weeks, he’s been saving Liverpool’s bacon recently, what are Liverpool going to do without him? They can’t afford Alonso out that’s for sure, they need everyone available in midfield.

    http://www.premierleague.com/page/Headlines/0,,12306~1377115,00.html

  172. twinstaiye says:

Congrats Geoff and Pedro for hitting over 1000 comments. That is a great feat to me. Shows we wont end this season empty handed, and to say that I did not post yesterday neither is my friend who is away on holiday, it would perhaps have hit 1200 then. By the way, can we believe the source that we are about to sign deguzman the dutch midfielder? read it now in the Sun.

  173. Pierre says:

Odub mate, I kept getting logged out of wordpress and couldnt be arse to keep logging back on, I’ll give it another go tho….

  174. finestcuts says:

Barry is staying at Villa, Alonso is needed at Liverpool, Inler isn’t ready, so it could be De Guzman.

  175. finestcuts says:

Pierre, what browser are you using?

  176. treze13 says:

twinstaiye – i wouldn’t belive what you read in the sun too much, they said we were getting tevez and masherano last year

  177. Pierre says:

explorer 7, does that sound right, im not technical

  178. Pierre says:

see, it did it again, fkn thing!

  179. finestcuts says:

12 million for a player is big money for a club like Feyenoord, they buy players for a fraction of that cost and train youth players to sell.

  180. choy says:

so no monsters in the middle of the park…

everyone attacks and everyone defends? that could work..

    our whole midfield under 6ft!!!

  181. finestcuts says:

Pierre, try Firefox, it’s a very good browser.
I also use Opera now and again , it’s the fastest browser out there, good for watching feeds.
But overall Firefox is better because of it’s built in security features. Hackers focus on Explorer exploits, if hackers find one on Firefox, they release an update the next day (that is automatically downloaded to the browser)which is what I like about it, Microsoft aren’t so swift.

  182. finestcuts says:

People originally questioned Fab4′s height, but he quickly dis-spelled any suspicions that it would hold him back, speed and skill beat height and strength, if the opposite was the case, Bolton would be champions.

  183. choy says:

what about them long balls.. hopefully djorou can sort that out

  184. Odub says:

I still think we need the od 6 footer across board. With that in mind, JD’s development is definately a bonus, but we’d then have only him, TT, RVP and Almunia over the 6 mark in the starting 11. Does that sound about right?

  185. Pierre says:

cheers finest but i’m at work so i have to use the software im given im afraid. Life is tough :)

  186. finestcuts says:

Ask the IT bod to install Firefox…..he might oblige…he’ll know it’s better than Explorer.

  187. dennisdamenace says:

Guys, Safari now runs on Windows too……

  188. Odub says:

    What’s a safari DDM?

The only one I know involves wild animals and a high level of violence….Or was that Croydon high street…..

  189. Jules says:

    finest .

forgive me if i am wrong but , do I detect here that you like the idea of de guzman !?

  190. Jules says:

    are you his agent ?

  191. AFC53 says:

    Afternoon Fellas,

Good to see were through even nicer to see AW keeps his word with the midfielder & not stiffling young talent.

See you big Phil if that pi** poor marking had of been you on saturday and not Gallas you would have got run out of the Emirates.

Hope things go well at AC im sure they will

  192. Pierre says:

I have safari on me laptop at home, its well good.

De Guzman or however you spell it looks a good prospect, I say lets go for him, gotta be better than Denilson, then we have the look of a decent squad. I really liked the fact Eboue and TT wers subs last night, lets hope Wenger is getting tough with his underperforming bitches!

  193. Jules says:

    afc

trying so hard to be negative today but …

he did say ” we will sign a midfielder , before saturday no , before the twente game , certainly yes “.

So whats happened to that then , add that to the super / 2/3 expirienced , 2/3 weeks
here with my cheque book /reasuerded by what they see etc .. uhmmmm

    more bullshit

  194. Seb says:

Odub don’t worry, we will get Bischoff in, at 5ft 9.5in he is the saviour in waiting!

  195. Jules says:

    pierre

and eboue sure is a bicth !

  196. finestcuts says:

Jules, I said so earlier, I hope we sign him (De Guzman), he’s a very good player.

  197. finestcuts says:

Steve’s mate could be playing at the Emirates on Saturday.

  198. Jules says:

    finest

i think anyone would be good within reason !! we are desperate !

joking aside i am for it as long as he is defensive enough as that is clearly what we need . ie dominant and can protect the back four maybe like makele did . if he can go forward and attack as well , bonus .

  199. AFC53 says:

Jules I question everything that comes out his mouth and have started to resent him for being too arrogant to admit he is wrong

    Case & Point

    Gallas as capt
    Eboue as a Arsenal player
    Ade worth 80k a week

  200. Bud says:

Golly Gosh, I think I am still drunk from last night !!!!!!!!!!!

Geoff / Pedro, you are mean bad muffa’s, holding me down like that and pouring a cocktail of lager down my throat……….. and what made things worse was the post match beers in the Arse Tavern watching the Lucky Mickey’s sneak a win !!!!!

    Anyway, did we win?????

  201. Pierre says:

the big big plus i see from us signing De Guzman is he would slot in with Fab, Nasri and Theo in the midfield, leaving no room for Eboue.

Buying a 20 yr old from Feyenoord, £12m,

Having bitch Eboue sitting on the bench……priceless :)

  202. TheDudeAbides says:

Here’s the pots/seedings for the CL draw today.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/europe/7584644.stm

Does anyone else think that pot 4 looks a lot trickier than pot 3, we would proably want to get one of the last three in this pot and avoid the Ukrainians, Athletico and Fiorintina.

  203. Evo in Oz says:

bud – that is gold, wish i was with you lads at the game and the pub after the game, would have been a ripper!

  204. Pierre says:

thing about champs league this year is dont fuck about and take our foot off the gas like last year at sevilla, we need to top our group, don’t want another top club waiting in the first knockout round like last year.

  205. mark c says:

Do people think attendance is an issue?

The club sell out most games. they have a ticket exchange system, so people who cant attend can sell their ticket so others can.

The lists for red members and Silver seem healthy, and the Club gets the money.

The fact we may not have household names in our squad now should not be an issue, they are made at Arsenal.

  206. Evo in Oz says:

this was my group stage prediction from this mornings chat:

    PSV, panathinaikos, BATE

  207. dennisdamenace says:

Odub – A definition of a Safari, is a group of intrepid hunters, hunting it’s prey, akin to trying to get a barmaid to serve you on match day in the Bailey!!

Alternatively, it could be the Apple Web Browser………..

  208. mark c says:

    Pierre,

    I disagree.

Coming second, means you play the away leg last where away goals count double.

By keeping a clean sheet at home in the first leg, you get the advantage of away goals scored in the second leg.

  209. dennisdamenace says:

Croydon’s really scarred you for life hasn’t it Odub??

  210. Arsenesabemejor says:

It appeared on the coverage that there was alot of support from the fans for Wenger, could clearly hear tham chanting “theres only one Arsene Wenger”. It would appear that the vast majority of fans are fully behind him

  211. Evo in Oz says:

1014 comments, struth, thats a ripper!

  212. Odub says:

DDM only time will tell if I ever recover!!!

You still up for saturday’s game btw? Thought I’d ask now because might not be on tomorrow or saturday?

  213. finestcuts says:

I hope this will be our group:

    Arsenal
    Werder Bremen
    Basel
    Bate Borisov

  214. Pierre says:

mark, i was meaning if we top the group we play the runners up from another group. we played the scousers away in the second leg of the QF last year and it didnt help us much.

  215. Evo in Oz says:

finest – ill take your group, however, i want mine because i want revenge on PSV and i hate panathinaikos and i agree with you on Bate -who?

  216. finestcuts says:

    Worst case scenario:

    Arsenal
    Bayern Munich
    Zenit St Petersburg
    Fiorentina

  217. Odub says:

I have a feeling we’ll end up with either Juve or Bayern. Either way, winning the group is a must this season, sod all that finishing 2nd doesnt matter crap that AW was bleating last season. WIN IT!

  218. finestcuts says:

    Pot four
    Shakhtar Donetsk
    Fiorentina
    Atletico Madrid
    Dynamo Kiev
    CFR Cluj
    Aalborg
    Anorthosis Famagusta
    Bate Borisov

Out of the teams in pot four we don’t want Shakhtar, Fiorentina, Dynamo Kiev or Atletico Madrid

Exactly Bate who? LOL Bate Borisov are a communist team from Belorussia.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FC_BATE

  219. finestcuts says:

Hleb used to play for them…

  220. Pierre says:

finest, you’re bang on there, we want one of the bottom 4 from your list!

  221. Dr Whiff says:

I want to get a really hard group and go through….you got to beat the best teams so might as well do it early!

Do you know Chelsea are selling Robinhio shirts already?

  222. Evo in Oz says:

everyone wants bate, the co-effiecient is around 1.0, surely the lowest ever!

  223. Gooner07 says:

I’d want Aalborg. you know why? Our good ol’ bruce rioch is their manager.

Then of course, Panathanaikos. Poli needs a good send off.

Almost every team are tricky. Other than these two, I’d take a fashionable club from pot 2. Say, Bayern munich would see ex-Coach-player pair (Wenger vs Klinsmann from Monaco days, of course, he’s a dirty diving yid c***).

  224. Evo in Oz says:

i say bring on anyone, we can beat them all. however, we always get a russian trip, so expect that surely!

  225. Orangooner says:

emphatic win, wasn’t it? actually it was sort of lucky to score those goals apart from Nasri’s, and Twenty played the game just like a friendly. i think the team still needs improving. let’s see how it goes this Saturday.

  226. Dr. Whiff . . . I am not sure if I share your sentiments. All of the managers say the same thing, if you want to make it to the final, it takes some luck and draws that are easier to make it there.

  227. Gooner07 says:

    maryland,

you have a point. manure had an easier draw than us last season…imagine us facing lyon and roma (Two attack minded teams)..rather than say milan n liverpool (two very defensive teams)..we could have thrashed them…even thgough we did thrash milan n livepool (well almost)…our players were a bit burnt out both physically and psycologically…in turn, we also lost our pace in PL…So yet, an easier draw makes things easier..

  228. Gonner, absolutely. Think of it this way, we had a thin squad, and they had their candles burning at both ends.

We played Liverpool 3 times in two weeks. That is a lot of Mugsmashing in a very short period of time. Now, don’t get me wrong. When we made it to the final in 2006, we played every tough team under the sun, including Real Madrid, where we went on to score the game winner at the Bernabeu.

I am hoping for the easiest possible draws all the way to the finals.

  229. finestcuts says:

These are the co-efficients, and if you look at who is top it tells us that coefficient equations are not very good indicators of how good a team is:

    http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/data/method3/tcoef2009.html

Yes bring on anyone, they’re all good teams, Champions League quality….
I’d prefer us not to be in the same group as Zenit St. Petersburg or Bayern Munich, if we have any key injuries and their team is fully fit they could cost us points.

    Pot two
    Bayern Munich
    PSV Eindhoven
    Villarreal
    AS Roma
    FC Porto
    Werder Bremen
    Sporting Lisbon
    Juventus

    Best teams: Bayern Munich, Juventus

    Pot three
    Marseille
    Zenit St Petersburg
    Steaua Bucharest
    Panathinaikos
    Bordeaux
    CELTIC
    Basel
    Fenerbahce

Best teams: Zenit St Petersburg, Marseille

    Pot four
    Shakhtar Donetsk
    Fiorentina
    Atletico Madrid
    Dynamo Kiev
    CFR Cluj
    Aalborg
    Anorthosis Famagusta
    Bate Borisov

    Best teams: Fiorentina, Atletico Madrid

If we get a group that avoids the best teams that would be splendid, but knowing our luck in draws, we’ll probably get a top dog from each pot.

  230. Finest, you are right, we do seem to draw the most difficult teams.

  231. finestcuts says:

Yeah I’m with you, I hope Anorthosis Famagusta and CFR Cluj knock all the top seeds out, unless they’re in our group…..there are giant killings in the Champions League, anyone remember Mourinho’s Porto?

  232. Evo in Oz says:

milan didnt hold a candle to us

  233. finestcuts says:

We were giant killers as well, when we got to the Champions League final we had Flamini playing LB and Eboue RB, crazy eh? But then again we had Pires, Henry, Sol Campbell, Lehmann, youth and experience combined.

  234. Evo in Oz says:

reyes was in that team and pires was subbed, crazy.

  235. Evo in Oz says:

SWP back to citeh on a 4 year deal

  236. Pierre says:

    we could have used swp

  237. finestcuts says:

The scenes after the CL final were ugly, I witnessed some people going absolutely ballistic….we need to get there and win it this time.

  238. rico01 says:

    Afternoon all, :)

No news then!! What a shocker

  239. Pierre says:

in fact city got Kompany as well, they are signing the players I wanted us to get (except for Jo, 19m is way too much for him.) (oh, and ben hiem, he’s pure toss)

  240. finestcuts says:

SWP probably cost a fortune, there’s no way he would be written off for 10m….or would he?
Or 10m by cheque, the rest in a brown envelope….that’s a nice “loss” for Chelsea to put on their books….easy to explain Roman’s various investments from cash that was earnt without any paperwork backing it up. Same with Shevchenko….they keep wanting to make a loss on paper, that’s where they got their “value” from, but who knows if there’s cash involved off the record.

  241. Patrick7 says:

I don’t think Phil views Milan as a superior club just that his position as a first team starter is superior to being 5-6th choice at AFC. I’d agree to that and wish him luck. Hope he comes back to us faster and stronger with better concentration………….or that we do better with the £6M.

  242. choy says:

hey rico.. did you send the book by any chance?

  243. SWP . . . good for him. I would hate to sit the bench, and with Robbo coming over from Real, well, I can’t imagine that they would see the field often . . . if at all.

  244. rico01 says:

Hi choy – I havent got you address yet from Pedro. Tell him off choy ;)

  245. Stu says:

We should have bought SWP and we should buy Landreau ’cause i hate Almunia. Buy:
    Landreau/Akinfeev
    Chiellini/Dunne/albiol
    Cana/Toulalan/inler/Alonso
    Santa/Klaas hohoho

  246. Patrick . . . spot on. Phil wants to play, not ride the pine. He is sick of the splinters in his back side.

  247. Stu . . . curious, why do you hate Almunia?

  248. patthegooner says:

    Hi Maryland

Mate asked last night but i think you had already left

Do you live in Maryland, if so I am off to Bethesda in a couple of weeks. Is there any bars where you can watch the football there?

  249. I do live in MD. Well, let me ask this. Do you want to see a game, or do you want to see a game with a bunch of Arsenal fans?

  250. Stu says:

    Mary,

    I hate Almunia because of;
    * his blonde hair
    * his inability to deal with crosses
    * his lack of authority in his box
    * his lack of leadership/organisation
    * lack of consentration
    * he isn’t a world class keeper

Plus he is at best 6th in the spanish pecking order. That good enough?

  251. patthegooner says:

Arsenal Fans would be good, It is a shame as most of time there will be in the international break but I am around for Blackburn away on the 13th.

    Still finalising flights

So what is Bethesda like for a night out?

  252. choy says:

    geez..pedroooooooooooooooooo where are you???

  253. Pedro says:

    You called?

  254. treze13 says:

:( everyone buys apart from us these days.

  255. ricardo says:

    Tiago

from Juventus – on a year loan with a view to a perm. Is the perfect way to cover for Cesc

  256. treze13 says:

    YES GET TIAGO – he’s portuguese :) !!!!!

  257. Goonerman says:

If we sign a quality CM I’ll eat my ………!

  258. Goonerman says:

    …….hat!

  259. treze13 says:

if anyone lives in spain here, go and kidnap sergio aguero for us please, thanks in advance

  260. Stu, you could just spray me in the face with pepper spray, and kick me down a flight of stairs : ).

Unfortunately, you are right with some points, not with others:

    * his blonde hair – Think Sampson . . . it gives him strength
    * his inability of deal with crosses . . . yes, I get a bit worried when there is a corner . . . remember when he was lined up for the PK against R. Keane. Saved the shot, and Nikki saved the day
    * his lack of authority in his box – I would site this as his greatest weakness. He needs to start punching, and letting other teams know that he is the master of his domain
    * his lack of leadership/organization – I don’t agree here. He is vocal, and has stepped up his direction of the back line. It can always be better . . . but at least he is directing in English . . . Jens used sign language
    * lack of concentration – He can get a bit jumpy at times, but remember goalies are either hero’s or zero’s.
    * he isn’t a world class keeper – How many keepers really qualify as world class? I can think of 4 (Cech, Casillas, Valdez, and Van der sar). Beyond that, there are lots of middle of the road keepers.

    Just my two cents.

  261. Pierre says:

Maryland, stick bouffon in there in place of VDS and you’re talking

  262. treze13 says:

    ustari’s a good keeper too

  263. Patth, there is plenty to do in Bethesda, Baltimore, and in DC. Regarding the Blackburn game, if you have a car, I can give you directions to the pub that my buddies and I go to every week. Great atmosphere, and plenty of Gooners. If you make it up, the first pint is on me : ).

Bethesda has plenty of activities, but if you want to get out, DC is the ticket. Shoot me an e-mail, and I can send you a list of places to check out: sae246146@hotmail.com.

  264. treze13 says:

pedro – were RAtM at reading this year my mate says they were but i don’t believe him

  265. finestcuts says:

1 hr till the Champions League draw………please let us get Bate Borisov…please….

  266. finestcuts says:

    http://www.uefa.com/competitions/ucl/news/kind=1/newsid=740905.html

You can watch the draw gratis if you register on the UEFA site.

  267. kelsey says:

treze13,I live in Spain, anything can be arranged here if the price is right, ask Geoff

  268. treze13 says:

kelsey, would it be cheper than his transfer fee? if so then get in touch with AW he’s always looking for a bargain

  269. choy says:

pedro.. please send rico my address.. the woman says she still hasn’t received it!!!!

  270. patthegooner says:

    Cheers Maryland

    I will be in contact

  271. kelsey says:

stu re almunia i think you are being a little unkind to him,imo his biggest weakness is getting beaten at the near post but more so when he commits himself by running out and then stops and gets left in no mans land. All in all he is ok but le boss hasn’t a good record with keepers, who was that egyptian/swede we had for one season, and richard wright.

  272. kelsey says:

treze13 talking about bargains, have you noticed that AW has had the same old grey suit on for the last 5 weeks.

  273. choy says:

arsene wenger doesn’t do defence like how he does attack…

  274. treze13 says:

kelsey, he’s had that grey suit on for the last 5 years hasn’t he?

  275. Arsenal Tom says:

SWP is reckoned to be on 80 grand a week!!!

  276. kelsey says:

    treze13 oh yes,i forgot,he is on 6 million a year

  277. kelsey says:

before everyone starts blogging about our chances after the cl draw,we need to focus on the geodies and it will be interesting to see who starts up front.

  278. treze13 says:

    be back after the draw

  279. Treze . . . is the drawing now? I thought that it was at 12:00PM EST. Is that right?

  280. Arsenal Tom says:

kelsey…ade and RVP… im sure of it

  281. treze13 says:

coverage is starting now on sky probly be about 6 before we find out who we play though

  282. dennisdamenace says:

Odub – I shall be attending Saturday’s game old bean.

  283. Pierre says:

    I have climbed, highest mountain
i have run, through the hills
I have run, i have crawled
i have scaled, the city walls, these city walls
only to sign someone, only to sign someone
but I still havn’t found, who im looking for!

  284. Arsenal Tom says:

maryland… its in about 25 mins… not sure about time differences!

  285. Pierre says:

you’ve got to laigh or else you’d cry.

I’m actually venturing out of Sheffield (tho not out of the north, my passport has expired) and attending the Blackburn game on the 13th, free tickets and meal and drinks thrown in, curtesy of a client!!!

  286. Pierre says:

and no, im not a rent person

  287. Pierre says:

do i get a prize if i get Ince to hold the “I am Mandingo” poster?

  288. choy says:

    no guzman either

  289. Arsenal Tom . . . 5 hour time difference between Eastern US and UK. 5 minutes to go.

  290. Catford says:

Does anyone rate our chances of signing anyone at all beyond 50/50.I think there’s only about a 40% chance.

Why wasn’t Vela brought on last night. It was the perfect opportunity to give him a run out in the 2nd half , when the game was obviously won.

  291. Geoff says:

I’m watching ManCity, boy and we think we have problems! They are losing 1 nil on away goals and there’s 17 minutes to go.

  292. Pierre says:

we may have problems Geoff, but we diont have the bag of shit that is tel ben haim!

  293. Trindle says:

Just realised the draw is live on Eurosport … no waiting for pages to refresh!

  294. Evo in Oz says:

  305. Trindle says:

  306. Evo in Oz says:

  307. treze13 says:

  312. Evo in Oz says:

old whiskey nose got his head on TV

  313. Big Raddy says:

Has the sun passed the yardarm?

  314. Paulinho says:

Why do the representatives of each club always scribble down the group and teams they’ve drawn on a piece of paper? It’s not like they need to revise them or something.

  315. Trindle says:

    Has in Guernsey Big Raddy!

  316. treze13 says:

LOL Terry defender of the year, the man who lost the final and cried

  317. Evo in Oz says:

  322. Trindle says:

    What chance Fab4 for midfielder?

  323. Duncan says:

    is this chelsea appreciation awards?

  324. Big Raddy says:

I think I’ll start with a bottle of chilled Carlsberg Special

  325. Duncan says:

  340. Evo in Oz says:

come on gooners, no celtic please

  341. Duncan says:

  342. If Cesc does not win . . . heads will roll.

  343. choy says:

is there an award ceremony going on or what?

  344. Evo in Oz says:

  345. You have to be kidding . . . Lampart is shyte!

  346. treze13 says:

  350. finestcuts says:

  351. Geoff says:

We’ll get the bubbles or Marsielle, I would prefer Marseille, but you know it will be welcome home Gilberto!

  352. Come on Panithinikos (sp)!

  353. Big Raddy says:

Fat Frank…. I always thought UEFA is controlled by the Russian Mafia. Now we knw for sure

  354. Trindle says:

  373. I don’t fancy group E.

  374. finestcuts says:

Inter have a pretty good draw as well.

  375. treze13 says:

lol liverpoo dont have it easy either and these teams are better than leige

  376. Big Raddy says:

MU have an easy draw, but they always do

  377. Well, I can only assume that Droogba will win the striker of the year.

  378. Evo in Oz says:

no way, celtic have beaten man yoo before and we know what happened against villareal when we played them

  379. Geoff says:

It will be Ronaldo the cunt has a microphone on what a fix all mancs and chavs

  380. YangKamp10 says:

Gonna be madness on green lanes when we take on the Turks!

  381. Duncan says:

    its cunt face!

  382. Trindle says:

What’s the collective noun for cunts? Is it a gusset? No real axe to grind against Cech (apart from the obvious) – but Terry, Fat Frank and the Winker.

  383. Evo in Oz says:

so it will be shakhtar or dynamo for us in this pot

  384. Seb says:

bet we get Atletico and Reyes shafts us

  385. Geoff says:

Lets avoid the Russians and get a shit team please!!! Cyprus?

  386. Big Raddy says:

Sour grapes boys. The Winker was head and shoulders the best player in the world last year

  387. Duncan says:

we’ll get kiev we always draw a rusian/ukrain team

  388. Evo in Oz says:

wonder if there are conspiracies with this draw like the last one>?

  389. raif says:

hahaha maryland gunner. i was thinking the same thing lol but they gave it to that rat face ronaldo.

and the febernache game will be a tuffy, its going to be intresting watching how our boys do when they go to febernache’s ground

  390. raif says:

seb reyes dont play for them any more. his at monico

  391. Duncan says:

    chavs have got it easy

  392. Duncan . . . sad, but true.

  393. Geoff says:

    Bollocks

  394. Evo in Oz says:

    dynamo. had to be

  395. Duncan says:

    what a fucking suprise

  396. Seb says:

    oh god Dynamo Kiev

  397. raif says:

    keiv, fuck!!!

  398. YangKamp10 says:

    FA Cup then

  399. Dammit . . . we need more money. If we had the $$$ we could buy this bad boy.

  400. treze13 says:

we got a fkin tough draw

  401. raif says:

we always get them russian or Ukrain teams in the CL.

and Kiev is always a sticky one

  402. treze13 says:

BATE borisov are going to end up with -30 goal difference

  403. Geoff says:

She could complete my drawer anytime!

  404. I am sure that there will be som surprises. I just pray that we are not one of those surprises.

  405. Sarge says:

What a surprise – Dynamo Kiev! Yeah we usually do really well in sub zero temperatures. Still , we should have enough about us to rack up enough points at home plus at least 2 away draws to get through.

  406. finestcuts says:

Oh dear, poor Bate Barisov, they’ll be the whipping boys in the group of death…..our group is not too bad, not too difficult, but definitely not easy.

  407. Duncan says:

every fucking year, we get a team like kiev, every year

  408. Evo in Oz says:

porto and fenerbahce will be pooing their pants

  409. Well, if we start winning the CL, then they might make it easier on us.

  410. Evo . . . that’s the way that we need to think. We need to let go of Saturday, and move on. If we crap the sheets . . . well then it is Arsene’s neck.

  411. treze13 says:

evo – porto and fenerbache are sharpening their meat cleavers THE FANS ARE LOCO!!!!!!!

  412. finestcuts says:

Man United have it easier, so do Inter and Barca, at least we avoided the best teams in each pot. But all of our games will be good, good opposition.

  413. Evo in Oz says:

fenerbahce – another one of anelka’s old teams

  414. Trindle says:

    Prayer to Cesc

Please stay fit … the thought of facing any of those with Denilson and Eboue in the middle scares the shit out of me.

  415. Well, looks like we will need to get all of our fans to the Bache game, shirtless, painted faces, and ready to bring the fear of Braveheart to Turkey.

  416. Evo in Oz says:

how good is that melanie chick, very hot and can translate languagues. hot hot hot to trot

  417. patthegooner says:

That is a nightmare draw, I think it will be important to win all your home games

They are not great teams, but they are nasty hostile places to go and play football, especially with a young inexperienced team.

    Right get spending Wenger

  418. Trindle . . . that is too funny.

  419. Duncan says:

who ever said that the rusain maffia runs uefa can be that far wrong, what a piss easy group for the chavs, and winning the awards

  420. raif says:

treze13 HAHAHAHAHAH, Meat Cleavers, i love it lol.

the game in turkey will be really hard. the atmosphre will be diffrent,

the game in Kiev will be COLD COLD COLD.

and the porto game will be very tactical i think,

theres are all the away games im speaking about

  421. Is there a UK maffia?

  422. doublegooner says:

lets see who else Wenger now decides to sell, cos I sure as hell doubt he’ll buy.

  423. finestcuts says:

    We got the 4th best draw….can’t complain, wouldn’t group H, F and D, I’d rather our draw than Chelsea’s.

  424. Evo in Oz says:

ok off to bed lads to dream of melanie. catch you tomorrow!

    cheers

  425. treze13 says:

    clean up after evo

  426. raif says:

the chavs got the easyest group

  427. kelsey says:

It’s a fix every ball that is picked they look carefully at them then pick one out,I thought they were meant to look away and why do Roma automatically go in Chelsea’s group. All fucking preplanned, anyway we should be alright I think I hope I pray.Geoff did you get that programme.

  428. CR . . . what a smug little bastard.

  429. raif says:

    Maryland Gunner –
yes there us a UK maffia. they are called the OLD BILL

  430. finestcuts says:

  431. CR . . . thank you to all the ladies/dudes that I have been with. Thank you to Chelski for loosing the plot, and thank you to Arsene for selling all of your players, and only giving us one team to worry about.

  432. GrahamGeorge says:

Kiev looks to have an away draw or a sodden loss written all over it

    i hate it hate it…but that’s it

Porto might be an away draw and home win.

Fenerbahce away will decide the group as Porto and Fb will cancel each other out.

  433. GrahamGeorge says:

Fcking Mancs get it all easy… C*nts

  434. kelsey says:

I bet I know who ronaldo will be getting his leg over tonight with SAF most probably watching

  435. A Prayer to Old Bill

We have not spoken in a long time. As a matter of fact, we have never spoken. I have never asked much of you . . . well, now that I think about it, I have never asked anything of you.

Why do you let the Chavs and the Mancs pull quick ones, while your beloved Gunners get the crap draws. I humbly request that you do something about this now. I want to know that we will be the team that all the big names go to.

Do what you can, and remember that technology is really advanced these days . . . wear gloves, and keep the bloodshed to a minimum.

    Always a Gooner,
    Maryland Gunner

  436. GrahamGeorge says:

  437. raif says:

i was hoping we would have got Celtic aswell.

  438. Odub says:

NOW go out and buy the DM because we’re not going to qualify from this group with Eboue or Denilson partnering Cesc, one of those 2 cnuts is liable to get fcuking sent off away from home!!

    Porto – Win, Draw
    Fernabache -W,D
    Kiev – W,W

    Happy days!

  439. raif says:

hahahaha nice one Maryland Gunner you tell them .

  440. GrahamGeorge says:

i think ours group is almost no. 2 in tough ranking

    passionate teams with volatile supporters.

and each one of the teams ( maybe not kiev) have an ace which can turn the match around in a blink of eye.

Don’t want to see any match with Denilson and Eboue in middle

  441. finestcuts says:

Nope, Chavs they’ve got Roma and Bordeaux, I’d rather Fener and Porto.

We have 2 middleweights, 1 light middleweight , Chavs have a heavyweight a middleweight and a featherweight.

We’ll get through that draw, 3 home wins on the cards, points on our travels.

  442. patthegooner says:

Got to admit that way they do that draw is suspect,

I know you cant pick out the team but you could easily choose which group they go into with the way they selected the balls. That bloke wasnt exactly looking away was he

I wouldn’t count Fenerbahce as middle weight

    Porto – yes

We got a two heavyweights , one middle weight and one unknown rookie who could be Mike Tyson or a sofie depending on the day

  449. Odub says:

    pat

if we get Kiev in winter forget about it!! All our african players will be screwed!!

Anyone remember Kanu V Kiev or Moscow? when he had to come off at half time?
He had on a roll neck jumper, ski glooves, long johns and ear muffs!!

  450. GrahamGeorge says:

i know ur very optimistic odub

    but i see the following

    Porto – A – D H- W
    Fb – A – D/L H -W
    DK – A-D/L H- D/W

So we might end up with 8 points upto 12

All will depend on How DK play with Fb and Porto

  451. finestcuts says:

No, we are much better than Dynamo Kiev, 6 points expected.
Fenerbache are good but not superb….
A few ex-brazillian, Colin Kazim-Richards….nothing to be too concerned about………

How is F’ Lyon, Bayern Munich, Steaua Bucharest, Fiorentina
    easier than our group….no way.
Fiorentina is better than Dynamo Kiev.
Bayern Munich is better than Porto.

    Wouldn’t want that…

  452. George . . . no away wins. Quite the optimist you are.

  453. Geoff says:

Let’s hope our first game in September is Kiev away!

  454. finestcuts says:

    Nope…

    D.Kiev Home win Away win
    Fenerbahche Hoe win Away in/Draw
    Porto Home win Away win/draw

And Wenger won’t have an excuse to chuck on Ramsey so that’s a bonus.

  455. the dude abides says:

Is Luzhney the coach at Keiv?
A long as we play them away in the first three matches we’ll beat them.
We should win all three at home. We’ll definately qualify and probably win the group

  456. Finest is right:

Bayern – have won this a few times
Lyon – almost knocked Man U out last season (Have a few players that we wanted)
Fiorentina – Could go either way

In the end, we need to put a CL squad together that plays together, wins together. We had a great run in 2005/2006, and for the most part, it was the same group game in, and game out.

  457. Gooner07 says:

Agree with finest, and if we don’t see this as an easy draw, then god save us. There was a time (01-05), when we wanted the biggest teams in our group, and sometimes, we needed a Cashley late goal against kiev to take us through to KO. We used to be underachiever back then. Now we need to play out of our skin.

Okay, I’ll Cut the pessimism, I believe this is a good draw.

  458. finestcuts says:

It’s an alright group, 4th best group….it’s not easy street but nothing we can’t cope with, we should win the group.

  459. Odub says:

I just worry about our inexperienced lads away at any of those 3 venues.

Wont be for the faint hearted. They’ll have to man up big time!

Still think we’ll beat Ferna home and away and draw away to the other 2.

  460. so the spuds get roman pavlyuchenko and apparently we are poised to get the £12 million jonathan guzman as flem’s replacement, would’ve preferred inler or cana though…shyte draw, turkey doesnt look pleasant in winter :)

  461. London says:

    Geoff

When do we find out who we are playing first and whether it is home or away?

  462. finestcuts says:

Any of you lot going to the Kiev game away?

  463. Big Raddy says:

I agree Finest, and that is why we are Top Seeds. The other teams in our group are sitting there saying,” this is the team that shafted AC, we are fucked”.

Get real boys, Arsenal are a great team, and feared throughout Europe.

  464. London says:

    Finest

    When is it?

  465. finestcuts says:

Yet to be announced….if you’re worried about travel costs there is a cheap way to get there, get a cheap flight to Poland and get a train from Warsaw to Kiev…
Hotels in Kiev should be very affordable.

  466. London says:

    Finest

How long does it take to get to Kiev from Warsaw by train?

  467. finestcuts says:

    I’ll just check…

  468. paul says:

Going back to last night.Apart from the empty seats at the start, can anyone else who was at the game explain the mass exodus with ten minutes left.By the end of the game i reckon the stadium was half empty.I am getting raelly pissed off with these so called fans.

  469. finestcuts says:

You can get a sleeper which leaves Warsaw at 2130 and arrives in Kiev at 1440.

  470. London says:

    Finest

I have just Google Earthed it. They are bloody miles away from each other…

  471. choy says:

    swp joins man city

  472. London says:

    Paul

The club are just as much to blame for the empty seats; their exchange programme is pathetic. Would you know how to exchange a ticket if you wanted to?

  473. finestcuts says:

Yup, but the train from Warsaw to Kiev is about 100 euros return.

  474. exactly, teams always fear us in CL games,we usually start things slow but wrap it up midway through the campaign,we have a decent chance here,..melanie visions will let me sleep well tonight :)

  475. finestcuts says:

You’d probably be better off getting a direct flight from London, it’ll cost 278.50 GBP

    http://travel.kelkoo.co.uk/172201/t_Kiev.html

  476. finestcuts says:

Porto’s good value as well……lots of cheap flights to Portugal.
If anyone is off to Kiev, let me know, I’m gonna try and get a ticket for that game.

  477. London says:

    Finest

I think I will wait and see what the travel club have to offer.

  478. Pierre says:

what a fucking crap draw, and suprise suprise, the manc scummers get a piss weak group!

  479. finestcuts says:

3 home wins and an away win in Kiev is all we need to qualify….we can win all of those games at the Emirates.

  480. Pierre says:

sorry bout the late comment, just got in from work. I need a fkn stella now!

  481. London says:

    Finest

I will definately be going to Portugal and Turkey, I was just wondering about the Ukraine.

  482. finestcuts says:

Yup, good idea, I’d probably opt for that option if I was in London.

Barca have an easy draw…and Inter….Panathinaikos and Farmagousta, piece of piss for them.

  483. kelsey says:

Nasri recalled for france for next week friendly which means a few of our lads have another pointless international .

anyone know who we play first etc thanks

  484. Geoff says:

Paul, I left early as well, it was part of my protest, when we saw everyone else go we thought, I hope the board and the manager are watching and seeing us treat them with the same disdain as we are being treated with, a kind of don’t take our support for granted.

  485. patthegooner says:

    NOOOOOOOOOO

    Let Djourou play

Please Please Please no more favorites

  486. kelsey says:

Fitzman stated that if wenger wants to buy the money is there,no amount mentioned.in an interview after the draw. no excuses then.

i ask again,do we know who we play when.

  487. BOY BETTER KNOW says:

has anyone seen the fixtures for these games yet lolllllllllllllllllllllll……….

  488. BOY BETTER KNOW says:

    blackburn a kiev a bolton a all in a row.lol:o

  489. London says:

Fizman is trying to make it as clear as he possibly can that Wenger is responsible for the signings or lack of and not him.

  490. finestcuts says:

Kiev is in 2 weeks time, I better try and get a ticket sharpish, any Grovers going to Kiev?

  491. GrahamGeorge says:

match day 1 is 16/17 sept

    wish it is kiev away

  492. GrahamGeorge says:

we need cana for these 3 matches

can we borrow him for 3 mathces? :)

  493. GrahamGeorge says:

    *matches

  494. GrahamGeorge says:

    let’s get one psycho pls

    Robbie savage anyone ? ;)

  495. kingsley says:

saw arsenal tv at 7pm wenger denied being interested in deguzman.

  496. Mark C says:

cant believe we play on the same day as Man U.

Remember this ITV1 will not show ANY of our games, they will always be on ITV4.

I like the CL draw, lets hope there is a new DM in the squad that can help out.

Looking forward to the toon on the weekend.

  497. GrahamGeorge says:

    De Guzman it is.

    if wenger says no

    it is a high probability

  498. patthegooner says:

We seem to be rapidly running out of contenders for the CM slot. getting really concerned now

  499. Joe Todd says:

His agent has said his value is too high for Wenger so he says it wont happen.. So I don’t seee where you’re coming from GrahamGeorge

  500. Ok . . . I have sat on the sidelines for long enough. I was hoping that it would not come to this. I have a co-ed game tonight. I will call the manager, let him know that I will not be joining the team. I am booking my first flight to London. Arsene, I hear your call, and I am on my way . . .

    Wouldn’t that be lovely :) .

  501. Paulinho says:

I still think collectively and spiritually we are well covered in central midfield.

  502. Pedro says:

Evening all… sorry for my lack precence today… I know you’ve missed me and stuff… haha!

    What is going on?

    Any transfer movement?

  503. Paulinho, you must have missed Denilison’s stunning performance on Saturday. It is the depth that we need. We need an enforcer. Fulham played us physical. There are certain truth’s to Arsenal’s style of play: We don’t like cold weather, we like to pass alot, we don’t like to be bumped or pushed on the pitch, and the majority of our players are porcelain dolls. They are absolutely beautiful to look at and watch . . . but if you are not careful, and you drop one . . . well, they are no longer worth anything.

We need a Viera “esque” player. Where that player is coming from is anyone’s guess at this point. Many of the grovers are right . . . the players that we were looking at arent moving.

  504. choy says:

pedro… haven’t you sent rico my address???

  505. And another point . . . FC Twente was playing us physical (Albeit for a bit). Teams know that this is a weak spot for Arsenal. Why do you think that we have struggled with the Bolton’s, Wigan’s, Chelsea’s . . . physical play.

We have to win, even when we are not on our game.

  506. Pedro . . . the only transfers at this point are me shifting from one cheek to the other, as my bum went numb watching the UEFA “random” CL drawing.

  507. kelsey says:

for anybody who didn’t know, found it at last

  508. Pierre says:

Finest, that key battles is often bullshit, i know from doing fantasy footie last year it was often wrong.

On the CL draw, its a bad group, but we’re the best team in it, let the other teams worry, we’re going through, the others will nick points off each other.

  509. Pedro says:

That is a nice draw for us… jeez…

Choy, I e-mailed Rico the address on the day of receiving it?

Tell rico to e-mail Le Grove and I will forward it on!

So no news on Alonso (Tiny) or Inler (even tinier).

Maryland, I am with you… a bit of brut.

Actually, I’m not… we need someone the same as Flamini… out style wouldn’t suit a brut. We need a box to box DM. I just can’t think of anyone who plays like that these days?

Gattuso in his prime… is that so much to ask for?

  510. Pierre, we are going through. Remember lads, its all about away goals. Don’t let em score at home, and rip ‘em apart when you are away.

I feel pretty good about our group. It won’t be a cake walk, but we will make it through. Hopefully by then, all of our injured signings and wounded players will be fit, and ready to roll. It will be like having a new team. Can’t wait for January!

  511. Paulinho says:

Do Chelsea, United, Liverpool have better midfields than us? I have to say, I’m not convinced.

  512. Goonerman says:

I hope its not minus 14c in Kiev in mid Sept. Our boys won’t cope.

  513. Better is a “fluid” concept. I would say that they have more experience, and that they have a different approach. Remember, Arsene gets bashed because of his approach to the game (Well, I guess it doesn’t help that he hasn’t won a thing in 4 years . . . who am I to judge). He breaks the perverbial football mold with his signings and his tatical approach.

Chelsea’s response to not winning is to throw more money at the problem. Manchester United have some old fogies playing in the midfield. I don’t think that Man U. are going to win the title this year. If we want to make the sift back to winning ways, this would be the season to start.

  514. Gonner . . . send them “care” packages. That should take care of them quite nicely:

    * Hot Chocolate – Check
    * Wool Gloves – Check
    * Chicken Noodle Soup – Check
    * Blankie – Check

    They will be fine.

  515. Paulinho says:

Only joking MG, I’m just going all ‘Wenger’ on you.

Of course they have a better midifield and of course we need more depth.

  516. patthegooner says:

Is that a serious question Paulinho?

    Lets take the look

    Chavski

Deco, Malouda, Joe Cole, Lumpalard, Essien, Ballack, Obi Makel, (Robinho to come)

    Man Ure

Scholes, Giggs, Hargreaves, Carrick, Ronaldo, Anderson, Nani, Fletcher, Ji Sung Park

    Liverpool

Gerrard, Alonso, Mascherano, Benayoun, Pennant, Babel, Lucas, Plessis, (Riera to come)

    Arsenal

Fabregas, Nasri, Rosicky, Walcott, Diaby, Denilson, Song, Ramsey, Bischoff, Wilshire

I am convinced they all have better midfields that us. It doesnt help that Rosicky and Diaby are always injured.

  517. Joe Todd says:

I hope Ade hasn’t been teaching “how to control the ball like a pelican” to Nikki B

  518. patthegooner says:

Thank god for that you had me worried

Out of those four midfields if I could chose I would have a 5 man line up with

    Ronaldo, Gerrard, Essien, Fabregas, Robinho

  519. Goonerman says:

Truth be told we are lucky we are not going to Kiev in December. Brrrrrrrrrrrrr.

  520. Sol says:

Just thought you guys would be interested in this.
check this link out – I heard this evening we was interested in this player, but googled him and if you scroll down you will see the comment ‘Signed for Arsenal Football club on August 28th 2008′

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blaise_Matuidi

  521. Sol says:

Just thoughy you guys would be interested in this. I heard we were interested in him, but if you scroll down the page you see the comment ‘signed for Arsenal ffootball Club on August 28th 2008′

A Holding midfielder but experienced?? I’m not so sure!!!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blaise_Matuidi

  522. Sol says:

Has anyone heard that we have signed Blaise Matuidi?

  523. finestcuts says:

Yeah Pierre I know about the key battles, sometimes they put them on and they select a different player, I hope that’s the case this time. It’s still summer on Sep 17th, it’s the perfect time to play Kiev away…..I’ll give Arsenal a call tomorrow and see what the situ is…hardly anyone is going to make the trek to Kiev….I might be one of the only supporters there.

  524. jimmyfingers says:

Wotcha Grovers, in late. Good game last night but FC Twente were fucking awful. Lets hope Newcastle are as woeful, but I doubt it. Good to see the RvP/Ade axis broken up. Bendtner put in a bit of a comedy performance but never stopped trying, which is nice. I thought denilson showed heart but echo the need for more experience in the centre of the park. Lovely draw for the CL: yet more trips to sunny Russia.

  525. Big Raddy says:

Let’s hope we don’t require a point from our last game. Porto away is a tough ask.

But, I am absolutely convinced we will top the group

  526. Sol says:

Guys – please see link below
Seems like we have signed this Mauidi guy. No news broke officially yet – but I googled him and if you scroll down the page – you will see the comment
‘Signed for Arsenal Football Club on 28th August 2008′

A holding midfielder at last – But experienced?? I don’t think so. Does anyone know anything of him

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blaise_Matuidi

  527. patthegooner says:

So who is this Blaise Matuidi we are supposedly buying (SSN and others)

Anyone know him. all I can find is that he is 21 (= resell value to Comical Wenger) and plays for St Etienne (Not the band Saint Etienne)

  528. finestcuts says:

I’m convinced we’ll beat Kiev away, I might take on the bookie to have my trip to Kiev sponsored.

  529. patthegooner says:

    I agree Finest,

But It think we have been lucky with the order of the games, I think it would have been a different proposition if we had been going there in November

  530. finestcuts says:

Yup definitely, plus it’s the first CL game….best to get off to a winning start.

  531. Finest, I don’t want anything to happen to you. Dosvedonya. Da. Niet. Get to know these words. They will help you on your journey to mother Russia.

  532. kingsley says:

transfer movement. some 21 year old from st ettiene? london based reporter on sky sports news said we are close to a deal.

  533. patthegooner says:

    Mentioned him above Kingsley

Never heard of him, so lets hope if it is him then he turns out to be another Sagna quality signing.

Would still prefer an experienced player, even if they dont have a resell value

  534. I assume this guy is a midfielder?

  535. kingsley says:

never seen him play. was linked with inter milan tho.

  536. Joe Todd says:

    Some kid said this:
“I have seen Matuidi and what Ive seen of him i can say he is quality, he is a good link up player with an eye for goal hes very quick and aggressive
he also has alot of skill. he works well with the young highly rated Gomis who is also a French international at saint Etienne.”

Gomis is a poor man’s Adebayor so if Matuidi comes he will link up with Ade as well? This could be a last minute joby.

  537. finestcuts says:

London is more dangerous than Kiev Maryland, but thanks, I’ll make sure I have my nice and safe attitude with me, I’m not worried about going on my travels, I won’t be flashing my colours about until I get into the stadum. All I need to do is ask the cab driver to take me to the stadium from the station (I’ll ask a buddy of mine who speaks russian to teach me all the important phrases before I go), then maybe go to the pub with some Gooners, get a cab back to the hotel, I won’t put myself in harms way :)

  538. patthegooner says:

Yep, apparently a deep lying playmaker.

  539. El Tel says:

The young French midfielder Wenger is apparently looking at sounds like a PV4 all over again or maybe Wenger thinks it will be.

The problem with getting out muscled isn’t so bad in European football as most of the refs are not biased (Bent). I say most refs as the Dutchman Pool chose in last years competition certainly was bent.

In England we have always had a reputation for fair play but this is very far from the truth. I believe most refs in our League are either bent or just accept that football in our League is a cross between football and Rugby.

Go to the park on a weekend and see the mentality of park players for yourself. You will rarely see anything with a modicum of skill and if you do the oppositions first action is to destroy the superior opponent. It is not enjoyable to play football at any age in England and most games end up with a fight or worse a riot taking place.

As an Arsenal fan all I ask is that IF the Fulham,Boltons and Wigans of the world kick Bollock and Bite the likes of the Mancscum as they do us. If all was fair and level I believe we would come out on top of them every single time. It never turns out this way and for us to win the League it would take extraordinary levels of football to do so.

Mancs can say yes but we won in Europe but if you look deeper it was probably as much about luck as it was about being a great team. The Mancscums record in Europe is not as good as they like to tell us and the reason is that IF they are the so called biggest Club in the whole wide world then they are failing. They are in Europe what the Spuds are in our League. The occasional cup win every 10 years. Remember they are the self professed biggest Club ever in the whole wide world. Makes you wonder why the European footballer of the year would want to trade down to the also rans of Real Madrid.

Back to my point, we don’t need a fucking hard nut if the rules of the game were adhered to in England but they are not. The thing is our opponents even openly tell the media that they are going to bully us and still we get no protection.

This is also why all the fans who bother to follow Engerland will never see us get better no matter who is in charge.

  540. Pedro says:

Sorry Sol, you were stuck in moderation!

You are free to roam now!

UEFA Champions League Matchday five followed by an away game against Chelsea

UEFA Champions League Matchday six followed by an away game against Middlesbrough

  543. Pedro says:

    Which french midfielder?

  544. Choy . . . this is really encouraging news.

  545. Please note the “sarcasm” in my last response.

  546. choy says:

maryland.. in simple words… we’re fucked!

  547. Pedro says:

Ahh… another experienced pro with premiership experience.

We will win the league for sure!

  548. Choy . . . tisk tisk. Have more faith. It’s all about strategy. I will give it to the Mugsmashers, they have the strategy down. You don’t have to spank every team you play, you just need to win the games that count.

I don’t care if we draw every game on the road. I just want to make sure that we don’t loose a single one at home. We are going to take some bumps along the way.

This is where the “depth” issue comes into play. Chelsea have 3 subs for each position. We can barely keep our 15 year olds match fit. It is really tough to compete on 3 fronts (EPL, CL, and FA Cup . . . I left out the oh so important Carling Cup . . . it’s shyte). That is the real challenge.

I fancy our chances in the CL. It’s the EPL that I don’t want to slip up. No more streaks of draws. That will be the kiss of death this season. Let’s avoid that lads.

  549. Pedro . . . look at the bright side of things . . . he is legal to drink.

  550. choy says:

maryland.. faith is one thing.. and reality is another!!

those away PL games are really really tough.. we did pretty well last year but it was after that we struggled.. any injuries to key players and i fear the worst…

  551. Pedro, how do I change my little picture to something cool? Is that the Website slot below my e-mail on the Leave a Reply section?

  552. El Tel says:

    SSN (MUTV)

I am very close to never watching this sports news channel again as every time I switch it on th eMancscum are on it.

  553. Choy, reality says that we will win some games this season, and we shall draw some as well. Since Arsene and I have stopped e-mailing each other, I have to assume that he knows what he is doing now.

I made this point before, but it’s not always about winning 3-0. Sometimes it’s the 1-0 win that matters (Arsenal 1 v. Chelsea 0). That is how we went 49 unbeaten. It is what it is.

  554. El Tel says:

    Superb Choy

Didn’t the Spastic one complain about this kind of thing the other year.

Matchday 4 CL mate before the Mancscum is it away ?

  557. El Tel says:

Maryland you are right a win is a win but some teams who we struggle to beat 1-0 get hammered by the Mancscum because they lay down and die. I bet Portsmouth are flying against us but they lost to both our main rivals. I bet Fulham get caned by both of them because they just let them roll them over. As for the Northern Cartel, well we all know already how it works, rough up the pitshes and kick t shit out of em.

  558. Evo in Oz says:

    morning/evening all

Oleh Luzhny is assistant coach at dynamo!

  559. El Tel says:

The only saviour we have oop North is Citeh and they went and hired an ex employee of the red nosed one and posssibly Boro.

We have the wrath of all the Northern Cartel and the local Derbys which are pure hatred.

Bolton fans V the Mancscum will hate them but Bolton V the Arsenal they will support their local Northerners.

The Shammers, Spuds, Chavs and even Fulham hate us but probably would help the Mancscum to stop us winning the Prem.

  560. El Tel says:

    Cheers Choy.

  561. marylandgunner says:

Truthfully, I am not worried about Man Ure. Chelsea are due for a loss at home. I want to see us get back on the horse. That is the biggest thing right now. Newcastle is on Saturday. They are playing with some verve. We need to bring them back to reality with a 2-0 whooping.

  562. Evo in Oz says:

so ive read on goonernews articles that people still expect alonso in? i would find it strange that he’s played a big part in their season start and then they would just sell him off?

stranger things have happened at sea though….

  563. El Tel says:

    Hi Evo

We never beat the USSR teams. I was talking about the draw on Wednesday night with fellow Gooners and predicted that we would get one of the former Soviet teams. Fenebache is also a bollocks draw as they have fanatical support home and away.

  564. marylandgunner says:

    Pedro . . . thanks mate.

  565. El Tel says:

I think the worst thing that could have happened for us regaring Alonso was Gerrard getting injured as they will need him unless they sign someone first.

What the fuck is it with us and injuries. We are jinxed.

  566. Evo in Oz says:

im now expecting we will sign no one else as the same crap lines are coming out of arse.com as last year saying the cash is there if wenger has some1 in mind.

surely he has players in mind, he claimed he once had a list of 220 names, so just pick one off that list and buy them in!

  567. Evo in Oz says:

    gday El Tel

  568. marylandgunner says:

Evo, the problem is we want a BMW on a Ford Focus budget.

  569. Joe Todd says:

Yeah i agree evo.. Wonder what happened to that list

  570. marylandgunner says:

El Tel, I was playing this past spring, hurt my ankle, and was only able to play after a 8 week break. You would think that because these guys do this for a living that they would be more “fit” if you will. I find that I am yelling at the tube, not because of poor play (Well yes, I do . . . let’s be honest MD), rather that our players don’t get injured. It is simply too much to bear loosing players to injuries all the time.

  571. terryrob1961 says:

Hi Guys had to change the name to get an Avatar I think. Here goes.

  572. GoonerJim says:

Has anyone else heard what Ian Wright said on Talksport, that he had been told that TH14 was having a medical in Manchester, before signing for Man-”SCUM” Utd? IF TRUE I WOULD BE GUTTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  573. Maryland Gunner says:

Tough to fathom. I think that Barca have big plans for him this year. I would be really surprised. Plus he is cup tied until February. That would not do them much good.

  574. terryrob1961 says:

    Hi Evo

    Maryland

I gave up playing years ago and i watched my boys play for school and Club teams and although they are very skillfull the thugs or hard runners got picked or bullyed the skillfull guys.

My youngest son was six foot two at 14 years of age and was very tall at junior school. Where do you think he was played by all the Managers/Coaches at School/Clubs?

  575. GoonerBrian says:

Just heard Fizman come out in defence of Arsene:

“I hear all the time that we have no money, but I just wish someone would take the time to look at our accounts. We do not need extra investment. This is a proper business which produces its own cash and lives or dies by its performances. Our net payments are £20million and the revenue increase from the new stadium is close to £50million. Explain to me how that stadium is a drain on the club, when it produces an extra £30million a year.

“This constant suggestion that the stadium is bleeding us dry is crap. The reality is our wage bill is very similar to Manchester United, substantially above Liverpool and substantially below Chelsea – but that is to be expected. We pay good salaries, but we pay them more evenly, so we do not have extremes of very high and very low wage-earners. There is an ethos of a team effort.”

  576. terryrob1961 says:

Ian wright is being a right cunt lately but if he is correct then TH14 would be scrubbed from my memory forever never to be spoken about by me again.

  577. terryrob1961 says:

I am locked in moderation so I guess you guys can’t see my comments. Pedro/Geoff if your awake guys please open the door.

  578. Evo in Oz says:

    gday terry

cant see henry going to the scum, he’s required by the new barca boss

  579. marylandgunner says:

Terry, I am not sure I understand your post. Are you saing that we get bullied because of our skill? Not sure if I am putting it all together. Pontificate away.

  580. marylandgunner says:

Evo’s right. Henry is fit, and let’s face it, Barca need all the love they can get these days.

  581. Evo in Oz says:

there are rumours that henry has been in manchester for a medical and that man scum are working on a signing as we speak, so im sure they’ll sign a striker before the window closes and i bet we sign no one

  582. terryrob1961 says:

    Hi Evo

Hope the Legend doesn’t do it mate. Just read about this De Guzman fellow and it seems like a good bet. We coach him to the standard Barca want and he goes there. He has already stated that he would dream to play for us and them. I bet its in that order too.

  583. Evo in Oz says:

barca’s group C surely is the easiest!

  584. terryrob1961 says:

    Jason

If Wenger fucks up and we know he has the money would you want to see him get the boot?

  585. Jason says:

    Geoff and Pedro,

May I just congratulate you on sticking to your guns this summer and not taking the ‘I have no money’ line like many of your fellow bloggers.

I have just read the Fizman comments and it was extremely pleasing to read that we are in good shape financially and that Le Grove was correct all along.

    Bravo.

  586. Evo in Oz says:

El tel – are you sucking downs some kronenbourgs out in the garage?

  587. Evo in Oz says:

imagine if chavski beat the spuds this weekend, they’ll have 3 losses on the board – gold!

however it would be better for a draw or spud win for us!

  588. alex says:

if Gallas and Djourou really link up as well as these early games have shown us(for the most part) and Wenger is not putting kolo in the middle i really wonder what he will do. Surely Kolo won’t be content without starting, and I honestly think Djourou has brought the best out of Gallas.

I also wonder why Vela has not been brought on more often? The lad had an outstanding pre-season and when we are loosing we bring CB’s on before a highly rated young striker.

I do think our defense looked better against Twente though.

  589. Jason says:

El tel, without wishing to go against the current grain, I have to say that no I wouldn’t want him sacked.

I understand why he undertook the project and I can understand why he would pretend we are poor.

This would be the last season I would accept it though.

Next year, I would expect a return to business with experienced world class players on the agenda.

    Would you sack him?

  590. Evo in Oz says:

    =70/227 in fantasy grove

  591. Evo

    151 / 112,453

Nice. Mine . . . not so nice.

  592. Wolski says:

    Hi all.
I guess our summer will be here by November when Kiev arrive here….they won’t stay the distance in the heat!!! Not sure these Turk or Russkie sides perform well away from home, so predict 9 points from home games, and draws away. Unless Wenger decides to throw some points away like he did last term! Draw could have been better but I’ll take it.

Be interested to know the Mancs games after CL fixtures…bet they are all at home or local!!

Not sure about the Wiki link on the french guy….nothing real about this anywhere else yet. Besides he will take time to aclimatise to the physio room!

Looking forward to Saturday but have that niggling feeling about KK’s boys coming down here and AW ringing the changes back to his ol favs again!

  593. Evo in Oz says:

de guzmans manager has said he isnt coming

  594. Wolski says:

seen a few people querying Vela not getting a run. I heard this was down to him having to travel to Meehico for international games and he wanted to give him a rest…… personally I want to see him play…think he has what we need on the edge of teh box as a forward, eye for that clinical pass to play people in, bit of trickery and scores goals.

Alex…I agree JD for me…but twente did not offer much so hard to judge how he is going to fair…I would play him….but pretty sure AW will revert to type…

  595. Wolski says:

Just seen on SSN, that henrik larssen is considering a move back to the PL at 36. 3 clubs interested. Did well for ManUre the other year as a cover player…wonder if he will offer the same for someone this time round.

  596. GrahamGeorge says:

    i think someone has signed…who..i dunno !!

Arsene was supposed to be at the Worthing game to watch reserves, but it has been reported that he pulled out at the “last” minute due to “pressing” commitment.

    hmmm

    what could it be ???

  597. Evo in Oz says:

Wolski – that sounds a plausible reason, i do want him to get on the pitch as well. the game against sevilla when he scored was good, it was a cracking goal!

  598. Evo in Oz says:

    GG -really?

    that could be exiciting news!

  599. Evo in Oz says:

Wolski – did you see larssons goal for sweden the other week, he is a freak!

  600. Wolski says:

Totally agree Evo. I think he will need the Carling Cup to get his games and prove himself to push for a starting place. Too many players in front of him at the mo until he gets some games under his belt and proves himself.

BTW don’t believe the TH rumour..I would be gutted if he pulled on that red top of manure…and there is no way he would be able to get in to have a medical without the press being all over it.

  601. Pedro says:

    Evening all!

Can’t sleep so I thought Id join the night shift for a bit!

  602. GrahamGeorge says:

    65/227

  603. Wolski says:

No..didn’t see it…..but the man knows where the net is. Wouldn’t mind having him on the bench as a supporting role personally..he just has that something…but at 36 he is not an AW sort of guy..

  604. Wolski says:

Pedro..would you take on larssen at 36..

  605. Pedro says:

I think that might be pushing it a little!

I think we have a pretty lively forward line… you wont be asking questions about strikers after RvP and Ade get their shooting boots on.

Ade plays off love, and no one loves him. RvP plays off confidence… which is lacking.

I think a couple of goals at the grove on saturday could see those two go on a spree!

    Would you take him?

  606. Wolski says:

Personally no…but apparently 3 PL clubs interested…probably not got 90 minutes in him but at the same time would n’t like to see him come on against us….too many memories!!! He could do a job for the new boys or the likes of Citeh or Portsmouth.

  607. Evo in Oz says:

i wouldnt take him because we have too many others, but i love him. wish he never left Celtic!

  608. Wolski says:

just watching SSN and the group review for the CL…..teh liverpool group is a mamma

  609. Wolski says:

oh well is that the time already..time to get my head down, get the last day of the working week out the way…then the geordies…..ah what a great time of the year!

  610. Evo in Oz says:

how about joe hart the man citeh keeper saving 2 penalties, that’s bloody awesome!

  611. kelsey says:

to me the hardest game will be at fenerbahce, with sly old fox aragones now in charge,he knows all about fabregas,a hostile stadium with a capacity of over 50K and the longest journey of the 3 away fixtures. As already pointed out other teams will take points off each other and i can see 2 home wins and a draw with 1 away win 1 draw and 1 loss.We usually make it difficult for ourselves, but i am confident, just don’t want wenger to use the old chestnut of playing games away in europe are always followed by a difficult [pl game,in case we don’t win.If he had bought and had a bigger squad, that wouldn;t come into the equation.
By the way kiev only has a capacity of 19k so allocation of tickets might be sparse.

  612. Pedro says:

Kelsey, tough to disagree with that assessment, they have some really good players on their books and they play an a attacking brand of football not to dissimilar to ours.

The whole group is a bit of a nightmare if you ask me…

Only a few more days of the transfer window left… Wenger has been well and truly hung out to dry by Danny boy… in fairness though, the same thing happens every year! If its not danny denying financial ruin, it is one of the others!

  613. kelsey says:

The trouble is that the fenerbahce game is sandwiched between the away games at blackburn and bolton.rosicky wont be match fit by thenthough silvestre should be,adding experience to the squad.

This henry story I hope is exactly what I read pure speculation. He nearly failed his medical at barca, has an on going back problem and has lost a couple of yards of pace.the key is that he misses his daughter in London and believe me the spanish in barcelona are the rudest of any in Spain. Not a friendly enviroment for foreigners and they are a touch racist.

Senderos loan deal or whatever is strange, only in its timing.he will benefit from the slower pace, but why sell him now,it should have been done 2 years ago,he is not top PL quality but as cover he has more PL and CL experience than others and without buying and relying on others with less experience could backfire.i just hope the boss has a very long sleeve to pull at least 2 surprises on us let alone one,but my head is not too optimistic.

  614. Goonerman says:

    What henry story?

  615. kelsey says:

    henry going to the mancs

  616. Goonerman says:

AW said it wont happen; if he comes to England it will be to Arsenal. Daily Mail rubbish!

  617. Geoff says:

    Morning all!

Henry would never, ever do that, it’s all bollocks.

Pedro the post is done and over to you for formatting, it won’t be up for a while grovers.

  618. iqwoo says:

What Fizman said is totally fucked.

  619. kelsey says:

Goonerman, I agree with you,but the fact is i think he half regrets going to barca and he would come back to us if anyone in the pl,but my guess is that he will have one more season and then go to the states to play mickey mouse football for big bucks.

  620. Odub says:

    Morning all.

    Half asleep……………

Until I read that Danny Fizman said AW can spend 30 mill on a player if he wants!!!

Do these guys ever stop sprouting shte?!!

  621. Goonerman says:

iqwoo – are you saying he is a liar or got his facts wrong?

  622. finestcuts says:

Exactly, Henry is a gooner, if he wants to play for Arsenal again we have the money to buy him back. All those AKB’s who kept saying we were skint…..we earn more than when at Highbury including all bills paid, and Wenger can choose who he wants to buy. The only reason why we wouldn’t get a top player in before the deadline is because Arsene doesn’t want to, Fiszman confirmed it, Wenger can buy whoever he wants.

As far as Kiev is concerned, they don’t have a massive stadium but CL state that they are obliged to allocate at least 5% of the ground to away fans meaning there will be approx 950 available. I phone Kiev today but all of them either refuse to or don’t speak English so I haven’t been able to find out more….I’ll just have to be patient and wait for the box office in London to open.

Geoff I was defending his case not saying he would go to the mancs,oh by the way good morning

He said: “If Arsene said to us, ‘I want this guy and he’s £30million, can I buy him?’ the answer is, ‘Yes’.

“Absolutely yes. It would be no problem. It’s not our decision who he spends on nor will it ever be. We back him totally.”

    ORLY?

  625. Goonerman says:

kelsey – I think you are right. He regrets leaving THE Arsenal.

He was the man; now he is simply a number at Barca with plenty of pressure on him. Arsenal fans would have treated him like Bergkamp in his ‘old age’.

  626. Odub says:

Henry WILL NOT go to the mancs, it’s paper talk!! Just because red nose said he wouldnt mind having him at mancsville the papers jumped on the story.

No different to AW’s smirky response re Barry last week, arse.com even had a pic of Barry on the website with the quote… I dont see Barry in an arsenal shirt, do you?

  627. ikon says:

but i dont really think we need any 30 million player.
Robinho is all big in his head right now. SWP has too much to prove.

I wouldnt mind if anyone we sign as the CDM comes good and stays fit. That position doesnt need supermen… and barry and alonso cannot influence the team as flamini did.

And both of them are fucking over rated and over priced. Nasri at 12 million looks like a real steal though.

It takes a genius like wenger to carry out his transfer business in the same scale as the yesteryears, defying the market dynamics, that shud be appreciated.

If the team plays like they did against fulham , yes manager is to blame…. but not for not buying.

Buying just for the sake of it isnt the solution and i completely agree with that.
