So yesterdays rumour is we’re buying Silvestre as cover for Clichy, so who will we buy as cover for Silvestre? That bloke is more injury prone the Robin Van Persie and Tomas Rosicky combined, it’s the worst rumour I’ve heard all year, dead in the water that one.
The Inler rumour persists, but the story that we could have signed Arshavin had we met his salary demands is interesting, I wonder what they were? His agent said this,
“(Arsene) Wenger is indeed a cunning fox who always says one thing and does the other. He wanted Andrei, but Arsenal are the only top English club who do not pay large salaries.”
Maybe Wenger thought he already had that cunning fox in Ade (I love the club / Pay me like Henry / I love Milan / I love Barca)?
There was a lot of debate about Theo yesterday and whether he’ll make it, let’s not forget he’s still 2 years younger than Cesc and two years younger than Thierry when he joined us, he’s being played out of position as well, I think if Wenger just said, you’re on the right wing for two years, we’ll see a better Theo, I think half the time the poor sod is just confused.
I have no doubt he’ll make it though, it’s strange that you never hear Wenger saying stuff like ‘Eboue needs to step up this season’ I wonder why that is?
Another quiet day in prospect, this should be when Wenger is out there signing players, not patsying up to the new England manager.
I won’t even bother watching England, I have zero interest in those spoilt brats any more, and watching a Capello team is like watching Chelsea under Moanrinho, but if Arsenal were playing Bordem Wood again…
Finally a word for Tomas, Tomas I think a man with your playing record ought to keep very quiet about anything Arsenal, albeit you were miss quoted, you of all people ought to keep your head down, train hard and make a contribution to the team, you have been taking vast sums of money for doing nothing for 3 years.
Maybe today Grovers!

August 20, 2008 at 08:49
Well said!
Who is the ’source close to Silvestre’ I wonder……
August 20, 2008 at 08:51
Bronze…………..ish
August 20, 2008 at 08:52
I think the only reason we should sign Tweety pies nemesis is to tick off ole 65% proof nose. That is always a good reason to sign anyone, but we have more pressing needs elsewhere.
As for Arse-shavings – don’t touch with a barge pole. Over rated on the basis of 2 good games and the worst type of chav-type mercenary player. Back to the gulags for this chancer !
August 20, 2008 at 08:52
Arshvans wage demands were well documented some months back. Zenit are oned by some super ich dude who pays Arshvan crazy money at the moment 100,000 pounds a week ir reports are to be believed. Arshvan wanted 120,000 plus to make a move. There’s a reason so many clubs turned their backs on him……hope he enjoys his days at Zenit…I don’t begrudge a player getting what he can while he can….but i hate that sort of greed.
August 20, 2008 at 08:52
fifth?
August 20, 2008 at 08:53
I think the Arseshavin talk is just agent speak keeping his client in the limelight.
But if that is the case, I wonder how many other players we have missed out on this summer due to not meeting wage demands.
I think Silvestre might actually come true. Just hope if it is does Wenger does not close his wallet.
August 20, 2008 at 08:53
Song is back from the Olympics!
I’m not pleased, I just thought I’d tell you.
August 20, 2008 at 08:54
RICO
Fair point ethan, i was thinking that we would be scuppered and with no cover at LB, do you think Traore is strong enough though?
NO
but gallas can slide over if we were to get another defender at all
it should be a CD ! then all bets are covered !
August 20, 2008 at 08:55
Am I watching BMXing? IN THE OLYMPICS!
August 20, 2008 at 08:55
silvestre and alonso. sorted!!
August 20, 2008 at 08:55
Pedro – Dont you rate Song????
Silvestre stuff – you all wait and see, this has got AW name all over it!
August 20, 2008 at 08:56
Me too Pedro, did you just see the mighty crash?
August 20, 2008 at 08:56
Song has been mint from what I read, he will be a class act for us whether he plays CB or DM.
August 20, 2008 at 08:56
think silvetsre’s coming in as a CB and not a LB.
gallas will always be cover for clichy when / if need be.
August 20, 2008 at 08:57
Arseshavin is a striker pat ?!
why
it must have been the ade affair ?!
August 20, 2008 at 08:58
Yeah! The track looks amazing doesn’t it!
I don’t rate song at all… hopefully I’ll be proved wrong…
Sivestre does have Arsene written all over him… I hope we’d sign a centre midfielder as well… but I get the feeling he wont
Maybe Silvestre will allow Arsene to push song up to the holding role again?
August 20, 2008 at 08:58
rico
i agree
free transfer
french ..
its definately what i would class odds in our favor !
its like an old diarra all over again ..
oh fuck it .. i dont really need him .. but he’s french

August 20, 2008 at 08:59
£750,000 Ethan
August 20, 2008 at 08:59
Sivestre for DM ???
August 20, 2008 at 09:00
Geoff, Its your duty to support the national team and sing for John Terry!!
August 20, 2008 at 09:00
i thought he was on a free ?
so your saying we are dealing with MAN U ?
August 20, 2008 at 09:02
It’s looking like Silly Vespa is indeed heading our way. Can he do a job?
August 20, 2008 at 09:03
aluminium?
August 20, 2008 at 09:03
the 750 000 must be up front fee into silvestre’s sky rocket ?
im sure he’s on a free ..
August 20, 2008 at 09:05
Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeco co co co co……………..
August 20, 2008 at 09:05
Song was perfect against Brazil and man marked Ronaldino very well. he just needs some flamini energy and workrate to prosper in the DM role…..For Silvestre it’s not a bad bet coz at least we will have him as a cover….for CB or Clichy.
I WOULD PREFER SILVER(STRE) TO BRONZE………
August 20, 2008 at 09:05
Silvestre will be ‘an extra’ i dont think he has been looking at this until this last minute – no doubt he has watched which team has come in for him, and Silvstre would always favour us rather than Sunderland or Man City.. At leats he has ‘winning’ in his blood, used to EPL etc etc – Bargin, and thats AW middle name….
DM will be in the next 4-5 days imho, next Tuesday is Twente day, and surely AW will do as he said he would this time… Me thinks so….
Have you all seen the story in The Sun, Good Old ‘Arry…..
August 20, 2008 at 09:05
I think he still has a year on his contract but he is surplus… well, that is what the daily mail said.
It’s only Arsenal who let old players go for nothing!
I think he might be cover for Willy G and Toure… then Song gets pushed up to the holding role.
August 20, 2008 at 09:06
i thinks Asha’s agent is just trying to revive interests in his boy sice the spuds are backing down, bit i wonder why as a player i will want to dump the CL for higher wages in a move to the spuds, thats pretty dumb to me.
and Silvestre coomon arsenal is a french Bolton.W where french players retire, we may have done it for Gallas but not 4someone like you, wake up!
August 20, 2008 at 09:06
It’s only Arsenal who let old players go for nothing!
and young DM’s too !
August 20, 2008 at 09:07
silvestre would provide pretty good cover at LB and CB if needed, plus hes got experience and as mentioned gets injured & is french…. wenger’s dream signing!!
August 20, 2008 at 09:08
Pedro – 2 Red Cards for Brazil in footie????!!! and they lost 3-0
August 20, 2008 at 09:09
maybe he’s being brought in to push kolo up…….just a thought.
August 20, 2008 at 09:12
i thought you would have said pedro too free up toure to DM ..
a lot of other blogs are presuming that ..
so its a double presume .. we presume we are getting him 1stly
then we are all sure what arsene is going to be doing with him
too many variables for me .. too injury prone and too old ..
we need experienced players sure .. but we go from
17 year olds too 32 + year olds .. SOMEWHERE IN THE MIDDLE WITH EXPERIENCE IS FINE !!!!
HHHELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOoooo???
ARSENE !!!
fuck !
August 20, 2008 at 09:12
One of the cards went to Gnarleys man (?) Thiago Neves!
Messi looked good didn’t he!
I don’t think he will push Kolo into the middle… I don’t think he is mobile enough?
Mind you, he has been flirting with the idea of moving Kolo since the end of last season hasn’t he…
August 20, 2008 at 09:12
iceman – hope not, we need a new DM, rather than use Kolo imho
August 20, 2008 at 09:13
Messi looked pretty awesome, love the comentator, he was just like a typical footie fan in awe of where he was
August 20, 2008 at 09:13
Experience – check.
Cheap – check
Covers for SuperGael as Traore fancies himself as a left winger – check
Pressure on our centre backs – check
Will be good in the carling cup team – check.
I reckon this will be a very good signing if it comes off.
August 20, 2008 at 09:13
TOM !
WELL DONE MATE !!
love it !
August 20, 2008 at 09:15
I hope we get a new DM.
I’m just saying maybe that’s the idea here.
He even brought Kolo on to play midfield for the last couple minutes against WBA.
I hope it’s Alonso………. and we can rotate for CL games.
August 20, 2008 at 09:16
We’ve all been complaining that we need a bit of depth to the squad and a bit of experience expecially winning experience.
We get it and some of us still aren’t happy!
(I’m assuming that this isn’t our DM signing as I write btw otherwise I too will complain loudly!)
August 20, 2008 at 09:18
QoS
that will be it !!
thats why i AM complaining !
August 20, 2008 at 09:18
Kolo played in the midfield when he first signed for us didn’t he? I think the substitution on Saturday was just a “what we have we hold” type move and wouldn’t read too much into it.
Surely if he was thinking of Kolo in the DM slot, he’d have played him there instead of Eboue?
August 20, 2008 at 09:20
So right now it’s all very confusing.
How solid is this Silvestre rumour anyway?
August 20, 2008 at 09:21
Wenger seems obsessed with his forename, first Nasri(anagram of arsin) now arshavin, but seriously I think when he signed his contract for a further 3 years,he had his visions of building his third team, but due to several reasons things haven’t quite gone according to plan, though he has made some mistakes.Pires should definitely have been given an extension,Diarra, who has a history of being impatient came and went(profit 2 million) though no one expected Flamini to up his game so much last season. We didn’t expect to lose (I hate big city life)Hleb, but thanks to his agent we did. Then the dreaded never ending injuries to RVP,Rosicky,Diaby and Eduardo, and with little money to spend,we find ourselves short of experienced players as we start the season, with an imbalance of youth and experience. Many will argue,me included that especially RVP and Rosicky seem forever injured,so if money was available last summer replacements or back up players should have been bought, but then again our finances are clouded in mystery. One mystery player will be bought, and knowing Wenger,we will never heard of him,and hopefully we can grind out results until some of the senior players gradually regain full fitness.
August 20, 2008 at 09:21
You guys have been moaning all season that wenger wont buy experience. As soon as a rumour comes out that we are looking at a experienced premier league winner, you moan that he is too old. Some people are never pleased
August 20, 2008 at 09:21
Silvestre is an interesting proposition, but does he really want to go from one bench to another? We need backup for Clichy and he’d be great, top club experience, wouldn’t be demanding first team opportunities because he knows he’s signed as back up, and at a very cheap price. Kieran Gibbs will be back next year, he looks like the backup option for Clichy in the future. I would be surprised if it happened though, Silvestre has first team opportunities and he’ll never be a regular at the Emirates.
Song back from the Olympics is very good news indeed, stick him straight in as defensive midfielder next to Denilson against Fulham, a much better option than Eboue.
August 20, 2008 at 09:22
You don’t know that Ethan – you’re just assuming the worst! Fear not, Arsene knows. (that was a joke before you get excited btw!)
We’ve already got a couple of players who can play the DM role in the Gilberto style – reading the game rather than high energy – Silvestre is more in the former role than the latter.
I still think we’ll be getting a high energy style midfielder. Unless he thinks Denilson can step up into that role…
August 20, 2008 at 09:23
I won’t beleive the silvestre deal till he’s holding up his shirt for the hacks/photographers at the Grove. In any case if it does happen am I alone in finding it difficult to support an ex-mankscummer ?
Did he not head butt our Freddy(and probably get away with it as the Manskumm worshipping refs and media ALWAYS overlook their misdemaeanours) ?
Also, he’s one of those people who have their mouths open for times other than when they talk or put food in their mouth. I always look down on “open mouthers” – the most retarded of the irritating habits people can have.
August 20, 2008 at 09:24
so who thinks the signing will be this week, next week or not at all?
August 20, 2008 at 09:25
True goonerlad… Is Silvestre the type of experience you want?
August 20, 2008 at 09:25
Denilson?? You sure QoS……even for the games up north??
Think Song and the new mystery signing will vie for the DM position.
August 20, 2008 at 09:25
iceman im with you on that one ..
but wenger loves any old french men . billy – silvestre – Makelele
as far as rumors go .. its believable ..
August 20, 2008 at 09:25
SillyVespa is third choice at Utd now isn’t he? Behind Evra and that Brazalian they are all raving about? Maybe he thinks with our injury record he’ll get more chances at Arsenal?
After all, Gallas has his share, Johan gets a few, Kolo has lost form a bit and Senderos is still bambi on ice.
August 20, 2008 at 09:26
Evo I say before the Twente game…… Hopefully!!
August 20, 2008 at 09:26
Well said Queen;
Silvest isn’t going to hurt us, great addition to the squad if he does come, as many of you have said though…hope this isn’t the signing AW promised. Rica could be right, it was a great deal that came up and AW has ceased this chance….roll on the big signing and i’ll feel better about our squad depth.
August 20, 2008 at 09:27
Silvestre? no way, he’s off to sunderland with the rest of the manure rejects!
Song cover for CB and I’d pick him every time over Eboue at DM.
BUT that doesn’t mean we still dont need to buy a decent DM, so don’t try and pull a fast 1 Wenger!
I can see it now “we needed 1 more in midfield and now Song is back from the Olympics we are comfortable”
August 20, 2008 at 09:28
morning all…
cesc fabregas!!!!
http://www.mirror.co.uk/celebs/latest/2008/08/20/cesc-fabregas-red-faced-after-credit-cards-were-rejected-twice-115875-20704473/
August 20, 2008 at 09:29
iceman – I think Denilson is great – but I realise i’m in the minority. I think he has more technical gifts than Flamini and a similar ‘tude and excellent energy levels.
I’m not sure many of us would have started last season with Flamini in that role ‘up north either and look how that turned out!
August 20, 2008 at 09:29
ha ha ha…
“it’s strange that you never hear Wenger saying stuff like ‘Eboue needs to step up this season’ I wonder why that is?”
I am not a regular here but thats a good one..
August 20, 2008 at 09:31
Ethan I wouldn’t mind if it’s true and he does come as back up. Just let not his signing be it. We really need another midfield option even if Song is back.
August 20, 2008 at 09:31
truegoonerlad
your kidding right ?
silvest is almost past it !!!
we want experience yes .. LIKE SAGNA – DUDU – NASRI .. not boys like
ramsey and ago-go randall ..
we need a balance .. not way too young or way too old .
anyhow i think we have enough injured players already playing dont you ??
August 20, 2008 at 09:32
QoS when you put it like that I see your point. So guess let’s give Denilson the benefit of doubt and see what happens.
August 20, 2008 at 09:34
Dean Windass have EPL experience – do we want him??
August 20, 2008 at 09:34
iceman
you know it is !!!
you know it
so do i !
thats our promised signing !
August 20, 2008 at 09:36

ethan – stop misbehaving, this is not our signing, honest…. there will be a DM in by Monday evening – Oh, and David Villa of course
August 20, 2008 at 09:38
morning choy – thats funny
August 20, 2008 at 09:38
NASRI HAS BEEN INJURED IN TRAINING 4 FRANCE, IS A DOUBT FOR THE FULHAM MATCH
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11670_4010938,00.html
Thats the article. Silvestre provides the experience, which we need, and provides injury problems, which we don’t need.
I hope this isn’t Wengers answer to buying a defensive mid, or defender as silvestre is.
DAMMIT WHY IS NASRI INJURED ALREADY!
August 20, 2008 at 09:38
why would he want Silvestre hes not much different to Gallas we should get Steven Taylor from Newcastle united he is some one i rate very highly he reminds me of john terry
August 20, 2008 at 09:38
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. This is insane.
August 20, 2008 at 09:39
I’d take Silvestre out of the bargain bucket, so what if he’s injury prone, he’d hardly get any games so if he did get crocked our first team player would probably be back by then.
I can’t see it though….and his wages, I’m sure he gets more than Clichy, we’re not going to pay our subs more than our first team players, he’d need to settle for the bench, settle for an Arsenal discount…..it is pretty off the wall.
But if we could get him on our terms as a sub, yeah I’d take him.
August 20, 2008 at 09:41
morning rico…
all… remember when arsene said he is going to bring in someone with prem experience… and we’d be all reassured… well i think he has a name now…
silvestre!!!!!
final signing of the season?
August 20, 2008 at 09:41
Nasri is crocked
damn.
August 20, 2008 at 09:41
chary… im sure he’ll be called before the FA for the headbutt thing…. as soon as he’s signed for us!!! can just imagine the headline… FA review headbutt video evidence and ban silvertre for 5 games
August 20, 2008 at 09:41
Did Cesc get lucky and can we watch it on you tube ????
August 20, 2008 at 09:43
choy – “Spanish Hearthrob”……………ha ha ha lol
August 20, 2008 at 09:44
finest.. i think it was just to pull him out for the friendly and he will play against fulham…
otherwise we have a new best friend for rosicky!!
August 20, 2008 at 09:45
But he could recover for Fulham…..such a great start from Nasri, stopping his run of games after a dream debut would be a knightmare, hopefully Nasri shall feature for ham….and score again!
August 20, 2008 at 09:46
Fulham*
2 spammy teams in London
August 20, 2008 at 09:46
Exactly Arsenal Tom – it’s the same situation for old Horsey who punched Freddy and – wow big surprise ! – got away with it.
The bastard FA took their time punishing the Chavs/mankskummers for the fracas at Stamford Bridgeski – just long enough not to effect eother of thier title pushes last season. Oh, and of course we’re “lucky Arsenal” – Lucky ? My effing arse lucky..
August 20, 2008 at 09:48
Lol Finest “Knightmare” – arise Sir Nasri !
August 20, 2008 at 09:49
hahahah
August 20, 2008 at 09:50
Yeah damn…..confused with the old kids TV program……LOL
Need to slow down…..time for more Java…
August 20, 2008 at 09:53
if it’s under 1m, silvestre would be a good addition with/without injuries — just look back in Mar/Apr and count how many of our multi-million pound stars were injuried, and if we had a ’silvestre’ then, perhaps we’d have got extra 6 pts (eg held onto leads) and won the PL… you never know.
walcott has been poor and regardless of his potential should take the heat… look at him, he either lost the ball or his footing or both; or count how much time he actually managed to keep th eball and made some use of it? Granted he had an assist in the CL but if he’s hailed to that extent (supposedly great talent, right?) he got to deliver more…
while eboue was/is never expected to be a star so what’s the issue? with little expectation, eboue is actually doing fine; if people start talking about his falling over, let’s say he’s ‘class’ in that department (at least in the PL); and if people condemn eboue for his shooting, let’s say he at least listen to the crowd/fans! last time i watched eboue (last sat), i thought he made several pretty good runs from MF to the 18 yard box (actually dribbled!) and managed to shoot couple of times — when did you last see walcott, denilson, diaby, HLEB, … do that? Ramsey did that severla times in pre-seasons also.
August 20, 2008 at 09:54
It’s strange that,in football, a rumour becomes an accepted truth very easily. Arsenal’s wage bill is a mite less than Man Utds, yet we are told we have a smaller squad. Adebayor gets £80k per week and Henry was on way over £100k a week. Cesc will soon be on close to £100k a week and yet we are told that Arsenal are the only top English club who do not pay big wages. I find it difficult to reconcile these facts. How can an unproven (in this country) player like Arshavin expect to walk into a club and be paid over £100k a week. Sure, Chelsea would pay that but money means nothing to them and they are vigorously involved in buying success once again and Spurs are so desperate they would also very likely meet his wage demands. They have put all their eggs in the Ramos basket and bums must be puckering after Saturday’s tactical howler. Surely a player who obviously thinks a great deal of his ability would arrive on a good salary (£60K) with an agreement to discuss a decent increase based on a couple of exceptional seasons. Or am I being too sensible/naive?
August 20, 2008 at 09:55
Did anyone see Adrian Chiles poking fun at Fat boy Ronaldinho?
Silvestre can play as a centre back?
He would be a better choice than Senderos surely? Maybe he’ll sign Silvestre… flog Senderos to Newcastle… then promote JD?
August 20, 2008 at 09:55
LETS GET STEVEN TAYLOR FROM NEWCASTLE UNITED
August 20, 2008 at 09:57
I did – Who ate all the pies then Ronnie
August 20, 2008 at 09:58
Sivestre is a manu player.dont want him anywhere near our team!
August 20, 2008 at 09:59
Wasn’t Steven Taylor the defender who did the Sam Peckinpah movie type fall in the box to try and avoid conceding a penno/being red carded ? Match of the day had a great laugh about that – Lawro was almost hysrerical.
August 20, 2008 at 09:59
hahah choy nice cesc article
what a charmer lol
August 20, 2008 at 10:03
Bergys, Gallas is an ex-chav, same thing isn’y it?
August 20, 2008 at 10:05
Naga – Good spot re Eboue………
August 20, 2008 at 10:05
I think now Songs back. There will be no new signing.
August 20, 2008 at 10:06
good point Gio, we pay more than adequate wages, we just won’t get shafted by the players/agents, and I for one would prefer it if it stayed that way.
August 20, 2008 at 10:07
Someone made a good point on another site I just read… we were all ok when the papers were suggesting 36 year old Thuram!
August 20, 2008 at 10:09
Exactly Pedro.
SillyVespa would be a good signing to make. I can’t see why anyone would have such an issue with it. Its not like we’re going to require 45 games a season out of him.
August 20, 2008 at 10:12
It still makes me wonder why we didn’t keep Gilberto though…
August 20, 2008 at 10:13
SSN’s are reporting AW may get Silvestre for 750,000, and that would be a snip – reports are that the player and AW are in talks at the moment
August 20, 2008 at 10:13
Silvestre is older than Gilberto so why on earth would Wenger let him go and buy an older player, unless of course he buys him as cover for injuries, by that I mean when Rosicky is fit, Silvestre will provide cover in the treatment room.
Wenger needs at least 8 injured players of the physio throws a wobbley!
August 20, 2008 at 10:14
Pedro – AW did want to keep him, but he wanted to play each week and he wasnt promised that, I dont blame him leaving, albeit sad he left
August 20, 2008 at 10:15
I’m not heartbroken we let Gilberto go though – I thought he was very poor last season. I’d dread him coming on.
August 20, 2008 at 10:16
yes AW never holds anyone at the club against their will, I think that is a fair way to go about things. Unlike Ferguson.
August 20, 2008 at 10:16
Gilberto wanted first team football Pedro….he was depressed all last season and he’d be in a similar situation this season if he stayed. He’s the best paid player in the Greek league with a 3 year contract, they won’t keep someone who costs them so much on the bench.
August 20, 2008 at 10:17
Morning all.
Simply put, no (Tweety and)Silverstre please, too many people already on the treatment table, I mean, what are were? Arsenal FC or Arsenal General Hospital? Last I read anyway, he may be off to Sunderland which should suit me fine.
August 20, 2008 at 10:17
chary… “lucky Arsenal” i agree mate… remember ade getting a 4 game ban for ‘punching’ frank lampard even after fat boy came out and said he didnt!!! fucking disgrace!!
August 20, 2008 at 10:19
Ferguson wouldn’t want award winning Ronaldo to leave, he gives Man United a meaning to their name….and he’d be very very sad. No Ronaldo in the showers….that would really annoy him.
August 20, 2008 at 10:19
I now hand my total support to Arsene….( if true ) Mickeal fucking Silvestre, fantastic great idea. Stick him next to Billy & make Kolo our new CM dynamo & all that for £750k !!!
At this rate we’ll have this stadium paid off in 5 years but watching a team of injury crocks & babies.
Clocks ticking Arsene, if the right player(s) don’t turnsup by 1/9/08 you’re be taking serious fucking grief.
August 20, 2008 at 10:20
Well clearly having the Gay Icon Of The Year at your club is a big deal to Fergie
August 20, 2008 at 10:20
Is SillyVespa actually injured at the moment then?
August 20, 2008 at 10:21
haha!

All this talk of Kolo as our DM enforcer? Can anyone really see that happening?
August 20, 2008 at 10:33
QoS… nope, we need specialist players playing in their natural and favoured posistion not more experiements. i agree with what u sadi about denilson to although i question his energy levels are up to the flam level
silvestre would be a good squad addition but he wouldnt be the ‘extra body’ wenger has mentioned
August 20, 2008 at 10:34
Evening/morning all
If the rumour is true about silvestre, then AW is no better than a women who gets excited when department stores have their sales. He gets his jollies (no not Angelina
) from getting that bargain. Now from memory, Big Raddy is often dragged out by Mrs Raddy to do some shopping so he will understand what I mean.
Oh did someone mention Thiago Neves, we need him.
August 20, 2008 at 10:34
Can’t watch that video as it’s barred on my pc but I assume it’s the incident I was thinking about Arsenal Tom.
If he played for the mankscummers he could get away with that – if he signed for us – 10 match ban.
August 20, 2008 at 10:34
Out for a while – later Grovers
Pedro – havent yet received choy’s address, can you help please..:)
August 20, 2008 at 10:42
Copy and paste this into your browser….there may be some truth to the rumour since Manyoo are not denying it…
On the same page they talk about rubbish ex-manyoo players…very suggestive.
Silvestre to Arsenal? Really??

August 20, 2008 at 10:43
‘and was granted a free transfer this summer.’
Arsenal are taking the Mik
Arsene Wenger has hijacked Manchester City’s bid to sign Mikael Silvestre. The Manchester United defender, 31, was undergoing a medical at neighbours City when he got a call telling him Arsenal were interested. Silvestre immediately abandoned the medical and hurtled down the M1 to meet Gunners boss Wenger and discuss terms. An Arsenal insider confirmed: “Arsene has been looking for experienced cover for Gael Clichy and he knows all about Mikael. Arsene has followed his career with France and at United and the fact he is French is a bonus.” The France left-back, who joined United from Inter for £4m in 1999, made six appearances at United last season and was granted a free transfer this summer.
August 20, 2008 at 10:44
I am kinda take it or leave it with Silvestre, i can see the merit of signing him – cheap, experienced and can cover a number of positions, but at the same time have never been overly impressed by him quality wise.
As long as we get a DM as well, what harm can it do.
And for comments like – ‘i dont want him cos he plays for Man U’ – well that would mean that you wouldnt want Ronaldo, Tevez or Vidic then???
Stupid comment….
August 20, 2008 at 10:45
from wikipedia:
“On 20 Aug 2008, Silvestre signed for rivals Arsenal for £750,000 on a 2 year contract.[citation needed] This was the first time a United player had moved to Arsenal in 34 years, Brian Kidd being the last player to do so.”
August 20, 2008 at 10:45
http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/294397951?-11203
Nope this link, for some reason that goes straight to the Manyoo home page.
August 20, 2008 at 10:49
Thought so Arsenal Tom. The other thing that alarms me about Silvestre – other than being an “open mouther” – is I recall he lost possession to Freddy in the build up to the S Wiltord winner at the Theatre of Snores in May 2002 to win us the league.
Agree with someone elses remark about his lack of quality, andf not just for the above incident.
August 20, 2008 at 10:49
id take silvestre happily… we need a strong squad we all keep saying that man utd or not, he knows english footy and would be able to see a game out with his experience
August 20, 2008 at 10:50
Well i’m all for Silvestre The Cat if it gives Clichy a fucking rest this season, rather than pounding another 60/70 games outta him, maybe if we’d had have a Silvestre like signing last season he wouldn’t have made such a retard mistake against Brum!
August 20, 2008 at 10:50
Everyone said we needed an experienced defender, and this fella can play as Clichy’s backup or in the middle…..750,000, what a bargain! I await official confirmation…..750,000 for a Manyoo player……..is this for real?
August 20, 2008 at 10:51
Pedro
I think you have it when you suggest that the writting must be on the wall for Senderos. He must now realise that he has not only dropped to forth choice CB after Gallas, Kolo and JD but he has become 5th choice after Song. Senderos will inevitably start asking Wenger questions about his future and by doing so will destroy the only reason that Wenger still entertains him at the club that being that he will sit on the bench for the lions share of the season without complaining. There is of course the other possibilty that Wenger has realised what the rest of us a long time ago that he is so slow that he is a liability and needs to be sold.
If this is the case then Silvestre as cover makes a great deal of sense and ticks all the necessary boxes that QOS mentions above.
August 20, 2008 at 11:01
didnt senderos sign a contract extension this year or the last?
August 20, 2008 at 11:03
I’d take him over Senderos London. I’d still like to see a future for JD though… I think he is a good player.
Like you said, maybe Wenger has realised that Phil ain’t cutting it. What is interesting for me is the fact that Wenger said Justin Hoyte was a good player before binning him… and then he said similar things about Phil… the dreaded vote of confidence?
Theo is getting a slating, and Phil is being told he is one of our best players? That doesn’t make sense does it?
But it wouldn’t make sense to slag off your old car in your autotrader advert would it?
The key to this transfer is experience isn’t it… whatever we think of Silvestre as a player, he has won a lot… he is pretty fast and he can play in two positions we need cover in.
We still need a CM though… lets not try Kolo out there… what a waste that would be…
I know what Wenger is thinking…
Eboue can play there, Denilson, Diaby and Kolo can – plus I have Ramsey and Randel coming through… why should I sign another one?
August 20, 2008 at 11:08
That cheered me up Pedro, I’m off to drown myself now.
August 20, 2008 at 11:14
Sorry Geoff… It’s the way he thinks…
August 20, 2008 at 11:15
That was well and truly a blog fart… everyone has left after reading that!
August 20, 2008 at 11:15
I think it was your comment Pedro!
August 20, 2008 at 11:17
Phaaaaaaaaaaaarpppp!!
August 20, 2008 at 11:18
I know Wiki can be altered but it’s showing us having signed Sylvestre on a 2 year contract for £750K: wishful thinking??
August 20, 2008 at 11:22
That’s what I meant!
August 20, 2008 at 11:23
arsenal news review reckon hes signing at highbury house now!!!
only 2 lines though
http://www.arsenalnewsreview.co.uk/index.php?mact=News,cntnt01,detail,0&cntnt01articleid=1042&cntnt01returnid=42
August 20, 2008 at 11:23
Pedro
Wenger’s anouncements of “I am finding midifielders every day” are paving the way to the ineviable; with the return of Song it is only a question of time before he announces that he thinks we have sufficient defensive midfield cover.
He may be right, and judging by the sea change that has taken place towards Song on this site this morning he is obviously not alone.
We need to see this in action to judge properly. My team for Saturday would be
Almunia,
Sagna , Gallas, JD, Cliche
Eboue, Denison, Song, Walcott
Adebayor, RVP
I know, but Eboue always plays. Walcott out of position if Nasri is unfit; Fabregas coming on later for Denilson and if we are three up Wilshire to make his debut.
August 20, 2008 at 11:24
arsenal news review has it that hes signing at highbury house now!??
August 20, 2008 at 11:28
Well if we do sign Silvestre Wenger can say he was true to his word about making a signing before the Twente game.
August 20, 2008 at 11:28
His site has crashed!
Well, first signing down…
August 20, 2008 at 11:28
So DDM – are you going to be putting the Silvestre signing story up on Arse.com soon ?
August 20, 2008 at 11:28
He’s taller so should be able to attack the 1st ball, he’s experienced, he’ll fill the gap until Nordveldt will be ready and is good squad/1st team capability and might even give us one who’d relish blooding RedNose when we play them (if his legs will carry him).
August 20, 2008 at 11:31
Yeah all the journos are whispering it……….someone heavy must have dropped the tip off….if we get him it’s superb for us, if Clichy is out before we had Traore (although Gallas is also capable of playing there).
And in Central defence we’d have, Gallas, Toure, Djourou, Senderos, Song and Silvestre.
I still think we’ll get a midfielder, we are a bit short there.
August 20, 2008 at 11:35
Hellooooooooo Grovers!!!!
What’s the dealyo?!!
August 20, 2008 at 11:37
Wasn’t there a chap on here last night said he’d never be back on here if AW signed someone over age of 17? Maybe Jimbo I think. Could ell be by by Jimbo.
August 20, 2008 at 11:37
just goes to show signings can and should be happening quickly if this goes through…
August 20, 2008 at 11:39
Just read the post, and some of the most recent comments.
What’s wrong with signing Silvestre?
Experienced, quick, can play at CB and LB, alright fine he was injured last season, but prior to that he was a regular with the mancs, apart from that what’s the problem?
AS LONG AS WE STILL GET A DM OF COURSE!!!
August 20, 2008 at 11:42
I promised yesterday that I’d leave the blog if Wenger signs another player over 18.
Turns out, I was wrong. But I’m glad to go anyway. You obviously don’t need me to tell you, having seen Mikael Silvestre arrive, that Wenger’s totally lost the fucking plot.
I’ll be back when cunt Wenger’s gone.
’til then, Adios.
August 20, 2008 at 11:42
That is the key Odub…
August 20, 2008 at 11:42
gotta say i agree with matt ..
2 times in the same life time .. oh fuck !
August 20, 2008 at 11:43
Well I would hope we are still aiming to sign the promised midfielder. AW has said in the past that in his opinion, Song doesn’t have the physical attributes required to play in midfield. So promoting him to that department now would be ignoring his own previous judgement.
Seeing as Silvestre shouldn’t cost too much, there is no reason why we can’t continue to pursue a midfielder. It would make the squad feel pretty tip-top if we brought in a hard man in the middle.
August 20, 2008 at 11:43
Seb, I don’t think it’ll happen now…
August 20, 2008 at 11:43
bye bye Jimbo, see you in 2011 ^^
August 20, 2008 at 11:44
Mind you… I don’t think Silvestre was planned… he was going to Sunderland up until yesterday…
August 20, 2008 at 11:44
I think the other thing to bear in mind is 31 isn’t really that old for a defender…
August 20, 2008 at 11:45
looks like its going through now odub… good signing in my opinoin… and a bragin
August 20, 2008 at 11:45
We can’t rule anything out now after this Silvestre business out-of-the-blue Pedro.
Expect Arshavin Kaka and Cana in a matter of days folks.
August 20, 2008 at 11:46
Seriously, before I go, doesn’t it bother anyone that Silvestre is actually totally shite? I mean, he’s not even average – he’s a very poor, injury prone defender.
There’s no point paying ANYTHING for him, let alone £750k + wages. And it clearly indicates that Wenger cluelessly thinks he’s ‘fixed’ the problem.
August 20, 2008 at 11:46
GMR you can come back now squire!!!
I have a funny feeling if this silvestre deal is kosher that one of the existings will be moved to DM (Djourou,Kolo,Song,Eboue,Diaby) and that’ll be the end of our summer dealings.
That would piss most off(including yours truly) something cronic!
August 20, 2008 at 11:48
jimbo
you manic depressive ! just stay FFS!
August 20, 2008 at 11:50
silvestre just looks like another oportunistic buy from wenger… we still need to add a proper top class DM tho and not start trying to fix the problem wih a CB someone else
August 20, 2008 at 11:50
Come on Jimbo, stick around mate, plus nothing has been confirmed. You may yet have 20 mins left on here.
August 20, 2008 at 11:50
Jimbo, how can you call Silvestre poor?!!!!! The guy has had one injury ridden season, apart from that he’s had 6-7(?) half decent seasons.
Dont get me wrong, I’m not saying he’s the chosen one or anything like that, but calling him poor is a bit much mate!
August 20, 2008 at 11:51
not buying a DM is not an option. I will ignore this purchase as I dont really care about it. its not a big signing in terms of our squad. but if wenger fails to buy a DM I will care immensely. wenger has got 10 days to redeem himself.
August 20, 2008 at 11:52
odub
i think wenger will make 1 more signing .. it seems an old well used and injured has-been and 17 yr olds is what you’ll be getting for your admission price this summer mate
August 20, 2008 at 11:53
Morning all..
Silvestre is only 8 days older than Gallas,, A winner and provided his wages arn’t too high a good signing..
I think Gilbertie was allowed to leave because his wages were too high for a player who would hardly ever had a starting place in the team, so it suited Arsenal and him to depart..
August 20, 2008 at 11:53
That’s it folks, thats our lot.
Wenger is not going to sign a DM who usurps Song or Diaby not matter how obvious it is to us; the development of those two players is a matter of pride to Wenger.
August 20, 2008 at 11:53
odub
so did freddie
August 20, 2008 at 11:54
london
u forgot denilson !
August 20, 2008 at 11:55
So if we sign Silvestre on a free what does that put our transfer balance at? guessing we are still well up?
The lowest figure banded about was we had 30 million to spend this season. So surly we should be still in for a world class DM, or a Major drop in ticket prices?
August 20, 2008 at 11:55
Ethan,
I really have had it with the teenage signings, I think we’ve got enough on our books to ensure we dont need to buy anymore for the next 5 years!!
August 20, 2008 at 11:56
why the fuck are the bloggers leaving.. ffs..
August 20, 2008 at 11:57
Jimbo… he is not that bad!
249 games for Manu… over 10 years… that’s 25 games a year!
Pretty good for Arsenal… Rosicky and RvP average less than that!
He is also a French international and he is way better than Big Phil… way way better…
I’ll take him!
I am with London… that is the last signing!
August 20, 2008 at 11:57
Number 13 for Silvestre perhaps?
The options are 13, 18, 23, 29 or anything above 30.
August 20, 2008 at 11:59
MM: “Major drop in ticket prices” -LOL !
August 20, 2008 at 12:00
choy, who else has left? What does it matter….. I’m back!!! so.. Unleash hell!!
Pedro,
My point exactly! for 750k what’s the problem?
However if this is the last signing, then it’s taking the piss!!
August 20, 2008 at 12:00
pedro…
rednose would keep him if he still had the bottle though .. dont you think ?
giggs – scholes are veterans – yet still remain….
he is just another potential body in the sick line for me ..
id much rather inler or another 24-26 year old .. will a few years left in the tank !
or am i the only one who still requires us to have a bit of class ???
its fading ! fast !!!
August 20, 2008 at 12:00
pedroooooooooooo
did you send rico my address? seems like she hasn’t yet received it…!!!
August 20, 2008 at 12:01
yeah odub.. i hope this is the second last signing!!!
August 20, 2008 at 12:03
MM
as far as transfers in V out are concerned its about even …
maybe 1 million up …
as far as wages are concern . id say with ades triple your money pay rise
(bumm! ) id say we are even also !
August 20, 2008 at 12:04
Jimbo
Dont go mate, seriously your post make me laugh
This is a serious comment
August 20, 2008 at 12:04
It remains to be seen whether Wenger chooses to play Song in midfield, but I hope he does. Song made it into the ANC best 11 team, so he has obvious talent there, but I’m not convinced that Wenger won’t make a move for a midfielder, Song is untested for us, Diaby is out injured, Denilson is getting better but having lost both Gilberto and Flamini it makes sense to add another midfielder to the team, otherwise we’ll be skating on very thin ice, sure we can get away with it and do an emergency transfer in Jan if necessary but it is pushing the limits. Saturday will give us a clearer idea of Wenger’s midfield ideas, will he choose to stick with Eboue or put Song who actually is a midfielder in there?
August 20, 2008 at 12:04
Odub, Silvestre is awful. I suggest you ask around a few Mancs to find out how delighted they are to foist him upon a rival. Seriously, considering how badly Senderos gets criticised by most Gooners, we haven’t seen anything yet compared to Silvestre. He’s abysmal.
August 20, 2008 at 12:04
Silvestre has signed for us!
August 20, 2008 at 12:05
yes ill 2nd that jimbo … your a cunny funt !
August 20, 2008 at 12:05
Well what have we spent? 3 players on a free, £11 on nasri, £5 on ramsey. Then we sold “shoot” berty, JH, the club are taking the piss if they don’t sign a great DM.
August 20, 2008 at 12:07
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/wenger-the-mystery-of-olympic-success
Not the story, but the legendary haircut of Lauren in the photo
August 20, 2008 at 12:07
oh shite paul you better be kidding
August 20, 2008 at 12:09
MM.. we gave TT clichy traore sagna new contracts!!!
but yes we have spent fuck all!!!
August 20, 2008 at 12:09
Hey If AW is thinking of Silvestre being a back up from Gael Clichy. Well he might be on to something. Silvestre looks a bit like Clichy. Its uncanny the similarity.
August 20, 2008 at 12:10
And actually, Pedro, Silvestre is a LOT worse than Senderos.
He’s totally clueless.
August 20, 2008 at 12:10
Seb, just saw that fella, and we complain about Sagna’s barnet?!!!
what a do that was!!
Jimbo,
my manc mates dont echo those sentiments at all! The reason he’s leaving is because he’s now fully fit, but wont get a game with everyone else available and also the other options they have are younger.
August 20, 2008 at 12:10
france do produce left backs on a grand scale don’t they!!!
August 20, 2008 at 12:10
The bit that pisses me off is we will give this 30+ year old a 2 year deal..
But we only offered Bobby Pires a 1 year deal..
August 20, 2008 at 12:11
Choy
And left backs that look the same
August 20, 2008 at 12:13
Ok so the wage bill may have gone up sightly but with the players sold plus matty going i doubt it very much. for £15-£20 million we could buy a gret player to parter cecs. Our boss has no fucking balls to buy a big name!
August 20, 2008 at 12:13
yeah that crossed my mind david, i don’t know why we have that rule in place, it’s definitely contributed to the continual haemorrhage of experience from our squad over the last 4 years.
August 20, 2008 at 12:13
david… wenger has become more wise… isn’t gallas on a 5 year deal as well
gg9. .. very true… how many french players do we have now?
August 20, 2008 at 12:13
my other half works for arsenal and has just confirmed that he has signed…shocking

Same mothers anyone
August 20, 2008 at 12:14
Paul, can your other half confirm whether we are signing anyone else?
August 20, 2008 at 12:15
The problem i have with Silvestre is he has been injured , and played only 6 games last year .. even senderos played more FFS !
2nd problem is we need a DM !!!!!!!!!!!!
HELLO ????
.. so if paul is right ! it can only mean wenger
is doing his famous switch-a-roo !
Make an instant DM !
just add water , and anything but silverware and mix!
OUTCOME
eg. toure to DM
this is typical of arsene recently .. getting players that clearly we dont need .
and dont fit the bill .. we need a DM not a aging left back !
get a DM that can play CD too !
wenger needs to put his application in for a famous US game show!
he would do well in it !
THE PRICE IS RIGHT !
August 20, 2008 at 12:16
He won’t sign him.
August 20, 2008 at 12:19
paul where have you been hiding all this while?!?!
August 20, 2008 at 12:19
go on pedro !
do an update !!!
be the scoop !!!
August 20, 2008 at 12:20
you know you want too !!!
August 20, 2008 at 12:21
What, you mean send out a new post?
August 20, 2008 at 12:21
so funny i fell off my chair
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTdBBVW9bTs
August 20, 2008 at 12:21
geoff
pauls mrs works at arsenal and has confirmed his signature !!!!!!!
least he is experience ..
THERE BETTER BE ANOTHER ARSENE !
i hope this is just a passion purchase !!
WE STILL NEED A DM !!!
August 20, 2008 at 12:22
YES ! a EXCLUSIVE !!!
August 20, 2008 at 12:22
Yeah, and then we find out Paul is some fruitcake who just wandered into an internet cafe and googled Arsenal blogs for a laugh, and is now posting on them for a laugh….
No offence Paul!
August 20, 2008 at 12:23
Let me draw your attention to this:
http://therepublikofmancunia.com/arsenal-after-silvestre-brilliant/
In particular, this comment made me chuckle:
“Silvestre must be sixth choice centre half after ferdinand, vidic, brown, evans, and O’shea, and fourth choice left back after evra, o’shea and Fabio. Maybe it’s time to just get rid of him. The prospect of him playing for Arsenal Just gives me a warm feeling inside. He just wasn’t good enough for utd at the peak of his career, so I wonder what on earth Wenger thinks he’s doing.
Mikael Silvestre 362 games too many for man utd.”
August 20, 2008 at 12:23
That is what I am hoping… and opportunistic signing!
August 20, 2008 at 12:23
hehehe!
So .. whats the difference ‘the media’ or paul
?
August 20, 2008 at 12:24
Well, you’re still dreaming if you think we’ll sign that centre-mid.
It won’t happen.
Wenger will get it all wrong AGAIN, like the arrogant fool he is.
August 20, 2008 at 12:27
jimbo they will only trawl out the negatives once they know he’s going, you can’t take that seriously. Noone wants to praise up a surprise departing player – hell Cashley was a legend for us for years, but we soon started throwing the shit at him once he was off.
August 20, 2008 at 12:28
(Tweety and )Silvestre is injury prone, and at his age,31, recovering from injury will take at least a few months so whats the sense in that? The ManUre fans in my office are laughing their heads off here, asking if we’ve put a bid in for Cantona??
Wenger has got to sign another player…a centre-mid pronto!!
August 20, 2008 at 12:28
Youcould make a new -post and quote Paul as your source, but Paul knows and we don’t yet….Paul I ho-pe you are not pulling our leg.
Silvestre is a coup, 750,000 fora player who can play 2 positions and needs no _remier League adaptation, it’s not like he’d be used on a regular basis…..but the best value sub you can get….
August 20, 2008 at 12:28
Jimbo,
pasting a quote from a manc blog still doesnt prove Silvestre is crap! I could paste any of mine or Ethan’s posts over the last 3 months saying the same about Ade TT!
August 20, 2008 at 12:29
jimbo
i just think he(wenger) is doing the best he can or a beer and chips budget ..
id focus all that negative energy to that wanker hill-wood ..
short arms and deep pocketed Cnut !
Arsenal have got the money or they couldn’t afford wengers 4mil a year salary ..
the problem is the buck stops there !
those toss pots have got so used too not spending every season ..
when we need too , its not forthcoming !
August 20, 2008 at 12:30
Jimbo it’s the same old, he’s shit, that’s crap, he’s so and so….what about you??
And are you going to keep to your word about not coming back?
August 20, 2008 at 12:30
ah Odub, you found my caprice/guiness pic link then! good man!
August 20, 2008 at 12:31
odub
especially mine
August 20, 2008 at 12:33
Pierre,
May I take this oppourtunity to say a very big thank you for supplying me with Caprice and Guiness!! I couldnt think of a better combo myself!!
Well done that man!
August 20, 2008 at 12:34
paul where in arsenal does your misses work?
August 20, 2008 at 12:34
I don’t think you can say a player who has been with united for 10 years is crap?
Even if you wanted to say that, 40 French caps don’t happen by accident.
Good signing I think, I just hope it’s not the last.
August 20, 2008 at 12:34

me and pat have negated jimbo’s bet !

August 20, 2008 at 12:34
Odub,
You’ll get plenty of proof that Silvestre is crap as soon as he pulls on an Arsenal shirt (hopefully he never will).
Until then, I have what I’ve seen with my own two eyes, and the views of those who’ve watched a LOT of him.
Silvestre is useless, and a total waste of our limited resources. Wenger’s completely dropped the ball YET AGAIN.
August 20, 2008 at 12:35
Pedro, 40 French caps happen because of Raymond Domenech.
Maybe we should look to snap up the incredible Wes Brown too? After all, he played for Utd a bit as well. Maybe Phil Neville as well?
Seriously, just watch the guy. He’s hopeless.
August 20, 2008 at 12:37
pedro
i agree
but i do think its the last ..
thats why im not filled with joy ..
did anyone really think clichy will be injured ?
and that gallas or armund cant fill in for 2 or 3 games IF … IF it happens !
i think wenger has a ‘cunning plan’ to switch some players at the back around !
thats what im fearful of !!!
August 20, 2008 at 12:37
Just read the comments on that man U site… There are more man u supportive of him than slating him..
August 20, 2008 at 12:38
Wenger made the “we don’t need a CB” statemant, and I think he just about got away with that 1 cos JD has bags of potential as far as I’m concerned, but he can’t back down on his midfielder promise or I see us being screwed this season. We are struggling as it is without Cesc, good job we’ve got a few “easy” fixtures to start the season, but what would happen if Cesc got injured for any length of time?
August 20, 2008 at 12:38
ethan,
Wenger has a track record of refusing to learn from his blunders. He’s about to make the same mistake as he made last year with Eboue.
August 20, 2008 at 12:38
Fans views after a players left don’t count for anything…
10 west ham season ticket holders I know all said this after lampard left:
‘What a fucking deal we got… £10million for lazy piece of shit… mugs’
Chelsea Fans:
‘Gallas is a massive loss… you’re so lucky to have him’
Monaco fans:
‘What a deal at £7.8million!’
You have to take fans opinion with a pinch of salt… Fergie has kept him for 10 years, so he must think highly of him!
August 20, 2008 at 12:40
Lol, odub no offence taken.
She doesn’t usually find out this info as players usually sign at the training ground but for some reason Silvestre wasnt and she was told about it.
August 20, 2008 at 12:40
Jimbo
I get the feeling thta if we signed Baresei, Zoff, Rijkaard, Van Basten and Bobby Charlton you’d still complain, and finish your comment with ”Arsene has lost the plot?”
August 20, 2008 at 12:40
So watch him, if you don’t want to take their word. Seriously – the guy’s consistently shite, unlike Senderos who’s only rubbish occasionally.
August 20, 2008 at 12:40
Geoff
You are very quiet. Do you think the Sylvestre signing is nonsense?
August 20, 2008 at 12:40
Yeah, because Baresi, Van Basten, Zoff etc belong in the same bracket as Mikael Silvestre.
Of course.
August 20, 2008 at 12:43
I’d take silvestre over senderos, but i think they are both poor. JD and Song I like better. What wages would silvestre come in on? what a waste that could turn out to be! Traore is cover for Clichy anyway isnt he?
August 20, 2008 at 12:44
Jimbo
Either lighten up or keep to your flipping promise of sodding off!
Simple.
August 20, 2008 at 12:44
well pedro !
post it !!!
pauls back !!! and he’s confirmed it 3 times
August 20, 2008 at 12:44
Silvestre is NOT better than Senderos. If you’d watched him every week, as we have with Phil, and judged him by the same brutal standard, you wouldn’t waste the effort even typing that.
August 20, 2008 at 12:45
If we want to win the EPL and\or the CL then Troare is not sufficient cover for Clichy
August 20, 2008 at 12:46
I just feel if this story is true about Silvestre,it stinks of last minute desperation by Le Boss.Senderos is his love child, otherwise he would have been out two years ago.As far as Silvestre is concerned he would rather be a bit part player with us if we can offer him a sensible wage, rather than go to City, who could be bankrupt this season.Who knows?
August 20, 2008 at 12:46
from the Guardian “Another surprise for Arsenal’s fans is that Wenger does not regard the former Internazionale defender merely as a squad player, or as a back-up for Gaël Clichy at left-back, but as a first-choice centre-half alongside William Gallas, primarily as a replacement for Philippe Senderos. ” Does that mean Kolo’s going to DM?

Heh, sorry Ethan, that can’t be aimed at me…I asked him if he’s coming back, he gave it the big ‘un about not coming back here, I’m not telling him to come back or not.
There’s one big mistake people often make with me….they think because I can show respect and look at the bright side that I’m a soft touch…..then they find out when they try it.
August 20, 2008 at 12:47
Jimbo
Silvestre is better than Senderos at left back as for CB that is debatable
August 20, 2008 at 12:48
What are you basing this opinion of Silvestre on, Jimbo?
August 20, 2008 at 12:49
well jimbo
start warming to him ! if paul is anything to go by , it looks like youll get your chance to see him in that shirt quicker than you think !
he might give us a good season or 2 .. he might preform differently with some
French blokes left and right of him ! our whole back line speaks french anyhow
so until he’s crap with us ,its best to reserve all judgment …
August 20, 2008 at 12:50
Pierre
If Sylvestre is a replacement for Senderos then a squad player is exactly what he will be because that is exactly what Senderos is.
August 20, 2008 at 12:50
Senderos is not good enough, he had a decent run of games 2 – 3 years back when Cambell was injured and has never performed at that level since. My opinion.
August 20, 2008 at 12:51
do you know what?
I havent been on here for a while and I’ve come back expecting the mood to be a lot better than it is now!
Jimbo if you’re going to be negative for the rest of the day kindly let me know now so I can go back into hybernation! I cant be dealing with all this negativity!
If I wanted doom and gloom I’d have signed up with the samaritans or started supporting the spuds!
I.m off all laters.
August 20, 2008 at 12:52
I think the Gallas / Toure partnership needs a shake up because they are too similar, but Silvestre is not the answer by a long shot.
August 20, 2008 at 12:52
In an ideal world Sylvestre would never play because Clichy would never get injured.

?
August 20, 2008 at 12:53
In all honesty I think Phil would benefit hugely from a spell somewhere else. Send him off to a Championship side for a year, see if he shapes up or fucks up, and then go from there. You can’t doubt his commitment or bottle, but he is not quite there in his head. Plus his reactions aren’t always the best.
August 20, 2008 at 12:53
I don’t really understand the negativity towards him… he is experienced and a winner, and prem experienced.
August 20, 2008 at 12:53
I’m off to the pub for some grub and beer, catch you later
August 20, 2008 at 12:54
I agree london ..
so why sign him to begin with ?
August 20, 2008 at 12:56
He is a centre back as well, and in an ideal world Phil would never play.
August 20, 2008 at 12:57
pedro
i think its more supprised .. more than anything .
and he is a bit old .. over 30’s policy ?
and he’s been injured most of last year .. (havent we got 3 of them already?)
rosicknote-RVP-the bitch..
Also why do we all of a sudden need cover for clichy ?
we didnt last season ?!
isnt there more pressing matters like a FUCKING DM ?
i think all this just adds up to shock .. pedro ..

August 20, 2008 at 12:58
Seb, my view of Silvestre is based on watching the guy play. We’ve had plenty of opportunity to do that.
August 20, 2008 at 12:59
but i think you should do an exclusive ..
as when they release the signing tomorrow and your story says
in the last 24 hours box ..
Silvestre? In his dreams!
ill say i told you so
August 20, 2008 at 13:00
Pedro, seriously, have you ever watched Silvestre? I can’t understand why you think he’s better than Senderos – he’s absolutely hopeless.
August 20, 2008 at 13:02
seb
i agree i think big phil should play for hull or stoke …
give him match practice against the EPL’s finest …
then youll get his measure
August 20, 2008 at 13:03
jimbo – your clearly mad as a hatter, not just for the tripe about big phil being as good as silv at CB which is clearly, clearly not the case, even with my red and white tinted glasses. get real mate and look at the stats!!!!! as forthe rest of your blogging, mate were all on here because we love Arsenal, lighten up hey?
August 20, 2008 at 13:04
Remember Silvestre having an absolute stormer against us in the FA Cup final in 2005. Played some wonderful balls over Cole and also was impenetrable defensively that day. Also played great against us at Highbury in their 4-2 win at highbury in 2005.
One United fan said the Ferdinand-Silvestre partnerhsip was a ‘great one’. That quote is from Redcafe.
He’s a top class left back and can be a dodgy centre back but can be a very good one.
He’s better than Senderos. A much better footballer with agility, speed, and strength. All things Senderos lacks.
He has a ricket in him, but no more than Senderos.
GOOD SIGNING.
August 20, 2008 at 13:05
Didn’t silvestre get sent off for nutting freddie? Maybe he could come and give ade one.
August 20, 2008 at 13:06
i look at the silv situation l;ike this. It doesnt smack of desperation rather a oppourtunity that arose which we are taking adv of. under a mill for years of experience. Aslong as its NOT the big signing hes chatting about then i think great. we moan and bang on about needing exp and hes getting some for next to nothing just a shame he looks like a fish. hope that doesnt sound AKB!
August 20, 2008 at 13:07
Ethan….there’s no probs, don’t be shocked…..you’re entitled to enjoy Jimbo’s posts, each to their own.
But it’s not clear who you think might as well be AKB or is squealing for someone to go away, since your post was adressed to me maybe you think that I’m like that….feel free, I don’t mind, I know who I am.
Anyway, I’m here to read about Arsenal….not whether or not Jimbo will continue to blog on le-grove and there are plenty of loyal Grovers who will continue to blog here and contribute their take on things, including you….so if one upstart thinks he’s such a hotshot that he’s going to leave and that we’ll all miss him…I won’t, to me jimbo’s posts are predictable…..find target….destroy…super Jimbo knows!
August 20, 2008 at 13:08
All these man united fans slating Silvestre are all united in agreeing that for all his faults, Silvestre is better than Senderos.
August 20, 2008 at 13:09
Jimbo, I’ve seen him loads of times and I think he is a much better option than Big Phil. I don’t see how you can compare the two?
He is injury prone, but he is big, experienced and he is a winner. He is a good signing as long as he hasn’t been signed so we can push Kolo up…
He will be a good stop gap for a couple of years.
I think Gattuso could do the same job for us in the middle of the park.
August 20, 2008 at 13:09
in my opinion it comes down to this
would Silvestre improve our squad
the answer has to be Yes.
August 20, 2008 at 13:11
jimbo, im not talking shit but i do think we will have to agree to disagree.
IF he has signed then im happy we have some great SQUAD experience to add to the talent. hell maybe he will even out billy fucking gallas a bit
August 20, 2008 at 13:13
I’m thinking he isn’t a bad signing a good squad player, and cover at 3 postions. but my worry is that is our lot this year! and i want a big hard mentalist in the middle!
August 20, 2008 at 13:15
On hols in Cornwall in the rain!
If we get Silvestre, I reckon we should loan Big Phil to Newcastle for the season and make a decision when we see how he’s fared given regular football. He always does well given a run of games, so it might be the making of him.
August 20, 2008 at 13:15
No, Silvestre is NOT as good as Senderos.
Senderos plays well more often than Silvestre, and furthermor Silvestre cocks up more regularly than Phil.
If you can’t see that, there’s nothing more I can say – but we’ll all see the proof if this chump ever pulls on an Arsenal shirt. He really is hopeless.
August 20, 2008 at 13:17
funny finestcuts, you seem a lot better at just trying to talk around me than actually address any of the arguments I put forward. Not THAT is predictable.
August 20, 2008 at 13:18
PEDRO – how are you big guy? 100% agree, would have loved to see Gattuso here for a couple of seasons, imagine how much song, coquelin etc would learn from him
August 20, 2008 at 13:18
I haven’t seen silvestre for ages I thought he’d left the mancs last season
August 20, 2008 at 13:19
OK Jimbo you need to stop the negativity as you are upsetting the balance and people are getting upset, so from now on be positive or I’ll have to sin bin you for a while.
August 20, 2008 at 13:20
Silvestre is a great backup to our defence. He can cover for clichy, gallas and toure and do a better job than big phil for sure…but if he is our central midfield enforcer then i’m going to hit the fuckin roof!
August 20, 2008 at 13:21
I’m good thanks Eduard…0!
Gattuso would be great.
He is experienced and used to the pace of British football… and it would allow Denilson and Diaby time to mature and learn from a master.
August 20, 2008 at 13:21
jimbo – lighten up – your starting to remind me of a certain William gallas at Birmingham…..its not all doom and gloom and besides he wont win us a title but he ADDS VALUE. i find it mystifying you cant see that dude
August 20, 2008 at 13:21
I will be very surprised if Wenger gets him, it’s the manc lovers trying to upset us all, ignore it until you hear it from Arsene.
August 20, 2008 at 13:22
Eduard..o
Agree 100%. Frings would be good as well. The kids would learn loads and then be ready to take over after a couple of years.
August 20, 2008 at 13:23
Jimbo this site is for banter not arguing, stop winding your oown up and you’re back on, it’s not too much to ask, we lost GMR because of the arguing.
August 20, 2008 at 13:25
if everything going as said it should be announced byt the end of the day, if not i expect a wenger denial
August 20, 2008 at 13:27
It’s the same old again and again though isn’t Jimbo…..you don’t like someone, you lay into them. Some arguments aren’t worth countering because it’s just a point of view,
because you put a point forward doesn’t automatically entitle it as being the focus of a debate, you’re not the shotcaller doing that. I’m not about to get into a pantomine of…..so and so is awful, he knows jack shit about this and this…..oh no he’s not…oh yes he is.
You choose what you contribute, but lets see some objective analysis…..opinions aren’t always objective they’re sometimes emotional responses, I’ve seen nothing but criticism from you and if that’s all you’ve got to say for yourself, so be it, but don’t be surprised at
getting a rebound, there is no protectionism here where you can give an opinion and not be confronted with it. Say what you please, but be ready for others to say what they please in response.
August 20, 2008 at 13:34
Eloquently put Finest!
August 20, 2008 at 13:36
Hasnt Silvestre slated us quite a bit in the past
Didnt he say we were too “French”
Doesnt bother me either way as long as this is not the end of the spending and as long as he doesnt jump ahead of Djorou
August 20, 2008 at 13:38

August 20, 2008 at 13:49
well said Finest- after all we care about the same thing. yep catyford – pedro – frings or gattuso i would be happy.
what about gallas as dm???????
August 20, 2008 at 13:50
I’m off for lunch as well…….it’s all about the Silvestre signing at the mo…nothing much more to report …maybe we’ll see an interesting update soon..
August 20, 2008 at 13:55
finest don’t go fella, we could always talk about the dodgy rash chary picked up, and how he got it!!!!
August 20, 2008 at 13:56
Gallas would fume at the prospect!
I don’t even like the idea of Kolo… we need to sign somebody who plays there for a living.
Chary… you picked up a rash?
August 20, 2008 at 13:58
Rash?? I think that was her name…………..ha ha ha!!
August 20, 2008 at 14:00
I for one like the idea of MS (knickers!) joining us as a backup for LB and CB, even if he only plays 20ish games a season, it gives someone else a breather, and don’t forget that it’s his experience we’re also purchasing, experience he can pass onto Clichy, Traore, JD etc etc…….
August 20, 2008 at 14:03
rash gash perhaps?!
August 20, 2008 at 14:04
If you put MS in at LB… would the FA Cup fiasco be repeated? Not likely…
That is something Arsenal lack… solid back up.
Knock O’Shea and Fletcher all you like, but they are solid players who can slot in when needed. We don’t have that… if we are short, we have to gamble on a kid…
Jack Wilshire isn’t even going to come on and do what Giggs can do now…
A great 17 years old is never going to be as effective as and experienced 32 year old.
August 20, 2008 at 14:10
A great 17 year old is never going to be as effective as an experienced 32 year old, thats what Chary thought, now he has a rash! There was a Gary Glitter joke in there somewhere, but I won’t stoop that low.
August 20, 2008 at 14:11
very well said perdo. is thrush still on? my new name for Jimbo, why? because Thrush is an irritating cunt! lol yes i really do have too much time on my hands!
August 20, 2008 at 14:11
Pierre – Go on fella, i dare you………
August 20, 2008 at 14:12
What the fuck has happened to Ralf’s heed???
August 20, 2008 at 14:20
Right!
That was a rather interesting pub lunch! Slightly tiddyly! Had some brit in the background winning in the boxing!! Good man!!
Speaking of boxing, are we still jousting or we back to happy families now?!
And anymore from Paul the insider?
August 20, 2008 at 14:20
Has Jimbo gone yet..? Trying to reason with him would be like reasoning with Mugabe tha he should relinquish power!! What a nutter.
My view is if Arsenal is going to sign Silvestre and Tweety for cover, fine he’ll be a squad player not that any of our regulars are being kicked off.
I think he is better than Senderos regardless of what Jimbo may say. Between Senderos and Silvestre, which one do you think will be able to handle the likes of Drogba?
My only problem is injury,if its possible for him to stay injury free for at least 80% of the season I’ll say its a bargain…as long as he also signs a CM too!!!!
August 20, 2008 at 14:21
Happy families Odub!
August 20, 2008 at 14:24
That’s what I like to hear Pedro me old son!!
DDM, where you been hiding?! Was beginning to think they’d detained you in Brussels indefinately due to them finding out of your rather nefarious misdemeanors that we’re all aware of on this side of the Yourowstar!
August 20, 2008 at 14:25
silvestre a bit unlucky with injuries last season, didnt he get a dislocated shoulder? hardly his fault. But what about the story that he is being brought in to partner gallas, is this to move kolo into DM and end our summer signings? if so, what a massive dissapointment!
August 20, 2008 at 14:33
Odub you old mungler, what are you trying to insuniate??
August 20, 2008 at 14:38
You know i just looked up the word ‘nefarious’ and it equates to – wicked, despicable, evil, immoral, reprehensible, disreputable……………….crap you got me!!
August 20, 2008 at 14:39
DDM I don’t want to lower the tone on this esteemed blog so I won’t draw graphic pictures mate!!
Your drunking escapades on the Eurostar have become stuff of legends is all I will say!!
Just kidding all……… he’s actually worse!!!
August 20, 2008 at 14:41
So, i enjoy the occasional libation, it doesn’t make me a bad person…………..what does make me a bad person is me shouting at TT “you talentless fucking clown” at the top of my voice at the game on Saturday………….
August 20, 2008 at 14:42
Pedro – no, no rash, it’s just DDM getting his own back for my Arse.com slurs, the fecker !
No news on MnUre TV/SSN about Tweety pie at lunchtime – they were all creaming themselves off about Cisse going to the Black cats.
August 20, 2008 at 14:42
morning guys, anything happened apart from that silvestre thing?
August 20, 2008 at 14:43
Mate my libation in take this afternoon was rather misadvised! Seeing as I’m now sat here with a spreadsheet that seems to be moving all over the cnuting place!!
Tell you what, I’ll just sit here and watch the olympics on the bbc site for the rest of the day. And then off to a pub meeting at 3.30!
Touch!
Where is everybody btw?
August 20, 2008 at 14:43
Mungler… that is a good word… that is my word of the weekend, to make myself a better person, I must use that word to degrade someone! haha!
August 20, 2008 at 14:45
SILVESTRE WILL SIGN BY THE END OF THE WEEK-ITS A DONE DEAL
August 20, 2008 at 14:46
Hey, question for my learned Grovers – I have recently been found to be having said libation(s) in a new pub for me and for the life of me i don’t even know what the place is called. Basically if you come outta the Armoury and bear left under the bridge, then take the first left and go straight on about two hundred yards there’s an old traditional style looking pub on the corner, the hanging sign outside is of Che Guevara, and inside it’s definately got a Latino feel, with salsa style music playing and the bar staff……..WOW! All Latin birds with wunnerful bums……….answers on a postcard please?
August 20, 2008 at 14:47
Good to hear Chary… Savlon should do the trick if not
August 20, 2008 at 14:49
Oh… I know the one you are talking about!
Barracuda or something?
August 20, 2008 at 14:49
DDM that’s the blue oyster, and all those girls…..well let’s just say they’ve defo got in touch with their masculine sides!!!
August 20, 2008 at 14:49
ooh its not morning… change that to good afternoon then
August 20, 2008 at 14:49
What a numpty, that was supposed to read come outta the Armoury and bare RIGHT under the bridge…………………..”Taxi for the Numpty”!
August 20, 2008 at 14:51
Odub – Don’t fecking start, oh and by the way, they said you left your membership card on the bar, so can you come and collect it……….
August 20, 2008 at 14:51
Oh, I’m thinking about the bar on the opposite side of the road coming down the holloway road… just past the taxi showroom?
What is that called?
August 20, 2008 at 14:52
Am I that pissed or are you lot not making any sense? Ok I know the answer to that!
DDM I left it behind knowing you’d be passing thru mate, and low and behold!!!
Pedro, do you guys still do the S&B thing btw?
August 20, 2008 at 14:54
Back for a short comment
Silvestre – SSN’s talked about this earlier and most reckon if we get him it is a bit of shrewd buisness by AW – personally i think it would only be good, and a strong backup to Clichy – Gibbs and Traore are not ready yet..
And, we all get bitter and twisted when AW plays players out of their ‘natural’ position, so that will keep Bac, Willy, and any other defender in his right position.
I remember before Clichy – I used to have nightmares when the likes of Luzny or Cygan had to cover LB, do we want to go through that again, me – i would be much happier knowing that Tweetie Pie can fill in, and in a natural role….
August 20, 2008 at 14:56
We certainly do Odub!
I wont be there this Saturday, but I am sure the other boys will be!
Well said Rico!

Bored now…..
Anything new on the olympics? any more medals, gold, silver, bronze, bling, platinum?
August 20, 2008 at 14:58
Agree totally Rico, and I think he’d probably be more cover for CB than LB anyway, which is why I dont understand the negativity.
Pedro, away game thi weekend buddy! I’ll be at the Newcastle game, will pop in for that one.
August 20, 2008 at 15:05
Good man!
I’m off out for a bit… have a happy afternoon you bunch of Munglers!

August 20, 2008 at 15:27
Usain has “Bolted” into history again!!! 19.30sec
What an athlete!! Michael Johnson, what were you saying??? Ha ha!!
August 20, 2008 at 15:27
….drugs
August 20, 2008 at 15:30
chris, the guy’s been tested at least 8 times so far!!! And he aint failed one yet!
His main advantage is he’s 6ft 5, and needs 41 strides to run the 100m!!!
August 20, 2008 at 15:32
We probably agree on more than you think Ethan – just dont mention Adebayor!
To me – the Silvestre thing looks pretty simple, andi apologise if i am repeating myself…
As long as we get the DM as well, we have nothing to lose signing the guy…
He has experience in the Prem and CL, can cover LB and CB, and will cost virtually nothing.
Nothing else to add….
Apart from – I bet Nasri is fit on Saturday…..
Anyone else on the Boat trip to the fulham game on Sat?
August 20, 2008 at 15:36
Just amazing…
I’d like to think it is all natural talent… you’d have to be a pretty cheat to get away with anything nowadays!
Are Jamaicans great sprinters, or did they just invest heavily in the last 4 years? They’re clearing up!
August 20, 2008 at 15:38
i hope its natural talent as well, good on him anyway

Well as a Jamaican not even I expected him to break Micheal Johnsons record here.
I thought he would do it eventually but not now.
Well all I can say is …the only Jamaicans who have tested positive for illegal substances in the past are ones who ran for other countries or trained overseas.
Usain Bolt, Shelly Ann Fraser, Sherone, Asafa Powell, Sherone Simpson and Melanie Wlaker who won the 400 hurdles all train in Jamaica….so I have confidence that they are clean.
Jamaica always had per capita the best sprinters in the wolrd(Merlene Ottey, vernica Campbell are 2 examples and Donald Quarry and Herb mckinley of the past)
….but now we are shining through even more now that alot of yanks and so on are getting busted.
But then again not even drugged up americans could have stopped Usain.
Jamaica to the world!!!!! I just hope our footballers can rise to the occasion…and for those who dont know..
John Barnes is a Jamaican..he moved to Britain at 14…so we have produced great footballers as well.
August 20, 2008 at 16:31

The Mexican Football Association have today confirmed that Arsenal forward Carlos Vela has suffered pulled a muscle in his right leg and is now a big doubt for tonight’s match against Honduras.
“El Tri” head coach Sven Göran Eriksson revealed to the Mexican press that Vela has done light-training but there is a chance he could play for tonight.
“Vela trained yesterday only a half part, because he had a small problem, but he is available for tonight”

August 20, 2008 at 19:05
for sure kelsey,
August 20, 2008 at 19:05
The possible signing of Silvestre may not be so bad. He has the experience and could fill in at fullback or center back as required. He would be a quality squad addition as long as he stays fit. Of course we still need that anchor man for defensive mid to be signed.
August 20, 2008 at 19:08
treze13 about 2 hours ago 166 people on board going to the canaries.Tried to take off, couldn’t then tried again and broke in half as it was getting airborne.144 confirmed dead.Spain/Denmark game may be off
August 20, 2008 at 19:09
I saw that Kelsey
not nice, last I looked they said 25 dead, now it is 140odd
Apparently 1st attempt to take off was aborted and it had a technical check prior to the 2nd attempt that ended in the crash….awful news.
August 20, 2008 at 19:10
you ain’t nothing but a hounddog, that more like it my friend, welcome to the site.

August 20, 2008 at 19:16
Still on hols in Cornwall…..the sun has come out.!!
A word of advice to those with the fuller figure…..never wear a wetsuit!! |Tried it this afternoon and, according to her indoors, looked like an overstuffed sausage! Harsh but probably fair!!!
Back to matters Arsenal…Arsene said he could spend £30m if he wanted. Why on earth are we bothering with Silvestre? If we could do with a new defender, as we all know we could, why are we not splashing the cash on someone really decent?
August 20, 2008 at 20:05
Thanks Kelsey. I look forward to chatting with you and fellow Gunners.
August 20, 2008 at 20:10
Good evening all, nice to know RVP got on the score board, we need him playing regularly, he is invaluable to the team on top form….I’m off to watch England….

What a coup!
August 20, 2008 at 20:30
It’s true, Silvestre is officially ours. I believe he will make a good squad player and provide some decent coverage.
August 20, 2008 at 20:31
Well that’s the defensive player bought and paid for now we need the midfielder. Inlar or Alonso or perhaps another Wenger surprise?
August 20, 2008 at 20:33
He will, he’s better than Traore at the moment, perfect, that’s a great piece of business.
He’ll be great on the bench, if Clichy or any of our central defenders are injured we have someone to cover, this adds versatility to the team. And if we need a fresh pair of legs in defence, he’s got the experience of big games and playing under high pressure.
August 20, 2008 at 20:34
great. now we have a united reject. Maybe we should buy vorinin next. This better now be our final purchace. We still need a midfielder not an injury prone lump. This sucks ass.
I bet wenger will say Silvertre is our experienced buy and no CDM.
August 20, 2008 at 20:37
What’s going on with England, a superstar lineup, they should be 2-0 up not 1-0 down…
August 20, 2008 at 20:37
Morning all
The early gnarley catches the worm. Got an early start this morning, & turned on Setanta & I thought I was watching England re runs from years ago. Beckham, poor king Cole, rain @ Wembley long balls into the box. Then I realised its live.
Now come on fellas, now do you thank God you’re all Arsenal supporters, @ least there is hope @ the Emirates.
So its true then, Silvestre is signed
Anyway off out to work, see you in the nightshift
August 20, 2008 at 20:38
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/a/arsenal/7573520.stm
The BBC confirm Silvestre has today become an Arsenal player.
August 20, 2008 at 20:39
http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/294508753?-11203
Ah – and nite nite
August 20, 2008 at 20:45
1-1 England…good corner from Beckham, they should thrash the Czech Republic at Wembley…..
August 20, 2008 at 20:46
Does anyone think Silveste will be cover for DM?
Will he be our Grimaldi?
Where does Song, Senderos and Djourou now fit.
August 20, 2008 at 20:51
On Arsenal.com Song is being referred to as a CB….but I hope Wenger plays him in midfield on Saturday. Silvestre should be cover for Clichy and central defence and could be used if someone needs to be rested ahead of a big Champions League game…it’s nice to have that option available. He’ll definitely feature on the bench, cover for 3 positions.
August 20, 2008 at 20:51
ohhhhhhhhhh myyyyyyyyy goddddddddddddd we signed a manc arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhlolololol what the fuck is going on arsene…………
August 20, 2008 at 20:58
We’re not signing anybody else, Wenger clearly thinks this is the experience we need
“Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger said: “We have a strong squad but a young squad and Mikael’s versatility, experience and calibre will provide the extra depth we need to reinforce our challenge for honours this season. His defensive adaptability will serve us well and it’s a big plus that Mikael has top level experience and a great understanding of football in the Premier League.”
The extra depth we need!!!!! Fucking Rubbish, where’s the experienced midfielder you promised us, locked in a room with the 2 – 3 signings you made in may, fucking joke!!!
Wenger hasn’t signed massive head to cover for clichy, he’s planning to pair him with gallas, wtf is he playing at?
August 20, 2008 at 20:59
this guy is injury prone.
perhaps he will keep rosicky and bitch slap company
August 20, 2008 at 21:00
FFS – is AW takin the piss?? I don’t mind as long as he isn’t our “one experienced signing”…
August 20, 2008 at 21:01
Hope ur wrong Pierre….
August 20, 2008 at 21:02
anyone else notice that a 31 yr old got a 2 year deal?? WTF is with that – why not Vieira/Pires/Bergkamp, but ok for this Mancunt?
August 20, 2008 at 21:03
he will not be our ‘one signing’. if wenger had this planned he would not have left it so late that the player had a medical at man city yesterday. there is one more to come…
August 20, 2008 at 21:04
Fucking joke we are now left to signing Mancscum leftovers. Is this what it is coming to. Fucking joke fucking big joke. I hated that ugly bastard and now I have to see him in our beloved shirt. I am pissed off big time Wayne fucking Rooney would have annoyed me but this is ridiculous. Yes he will probably do a job but why a fucking cunting Mancscummmer.
Going to work now and people could get sacked because of this. I am not in the mood to be nice tonight.
August 20, 2008 at 21:05
Because Viera and Pires won’t be bench players, this fella will.
August 20, 2008 at 21:06
I wonder how much he is being paid?
Happy for him coming as a squad player, but I think the anger amongst people is because we all have that gut feeling that this is it transfer wise
I pray it is not
August 20, 2008 at 21:06
he wll also not be on the same money as Pires and Viera
August 20, 2008 at 21:06
anybody else had a browse on Arse.com lately? look at this on Eboue’e profile
“Emmanuel’s primary aim these days is to add balance to the Arsenal attack. He regularly finds the byline and is arguably the best crosser in Arsène Wenger’s squad.”
Best crosser??? biggest tosser more like!
calamity james has just et another in, England are not very good are thay?
August 20, 2008 at 21:07
finest – ya, you’re right, and I don’t mind TOO much as long as he stays a bench player…but as long as he isn’t ‘The One’ signing and is the ‘maybe two’
August 20, 2008 at 21:08
Kingsley
But with Silvestre coming available it may have changed Wengers mind. He may have suddenly thought, aghh I dont need to spend 14m on a Central Midfielder as I can bring him in as CB cover and push Toure or Song into CM
August 20, 2008 at 21:08
Helsinki you are right mate we let world class players leave in the past and then take this Mancscummer cunt and give it 2 years. Our Manager is losing the plot here. He let that cunt Beckham train with us last year and now we recruit one of them to spy on us.
We may as well train at their place and invite them in. I am so fucking gutted. What a ugly cunt as well.
August 20, 2008 at 21:09
We need a midfielder, Wenger said we’re one player short there.
August 20, 2008 at 21:10
El Tel….this Andrade….how sure are you?
August 20, 2008 at 21:11
Pat, I have a very bad feeling you’re spot on.
August 20, 2008 at 21:11
He will be a spy. This cunt had 9 years with them and states he is fond of them. All his scummer mates will get breaking news on everything we do and so too will that bent cunt Red nosed prick.
August 20, 2008 at 21:13
pat – i kinda hope your wrong, just b/c i’m tired of trying new young players in different positions and letting them take 2 years to excel…call me selfish, but i want a proven experienced CM/DM…not toure/song/eboue. any of them is fine in a pinch, but it’ll be much tougher to win the Prem/CL with an untried player in that position…
August 20, 2008 at 21:14
El Tel, they have spies anyway, so do Arsenal, it won’t make the blindest bit of difference.
August 20, 2008 at 21:16
please tell me this is not the last signing
August 20, 2008 at 21:18
Erm, the commentator on the England game claims word is Silvestre IS our new centre half…
August 20, 2008 at 21:23
Lol I just heard that and he said it was an undisclosed fee which makes it sound even more plausible! First Ramsey now weve taken Silvestre under the nose of old red nose! LMAO
August 20, 2008 at 21:24
With gallas and silvestre at the heart of the defense we are sure to never concede. YIPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 20, 2008 at 21:29
These England commentators don’t usually know too much about Arsenal…..I want Djourou there, he’s earnt his place for Fulham.
August 20, 2008 at 21:29
You think Toure will be pushed into the holding midfielder role?
August 20, 2008 at 21:30
some one on Arsenal Mania claims that Inler has had a medical last night..
Take it with a pinch of salt people!!
August 20, 2008 at 21:32
How much would we have offered this guy as well? Didn’t he knock utd back on a couple of wage increases?
August 20, 2008 at 21:37
It’s official it’s on Arsenal.com as well! :0)
August 20, 2008 at 21:42
It has to be, cos it’s on the Manyoo site…
August 20, 2008 at 21:51
Pierre. You are over reacting. No where has Wenger said this will be our signing. He is talking about Silvestre being an experienced player, which he is. Don’t read things into something that is not there. Never say never with Wenger. The window does not close until 31 August. Be patient my friend.
August 20, 2008 at 21:53
Pierre, I missed out the word “last” of course I meant to say, no where has Wenger said this will be our last signing.
August 20, 2008 at 21:53
Good signing i feel, with Toure at a ripish age for CB and Djourou coming through he could be a very stable option. I mean for the money we’re likey to have spent on him it has to be a win win.
August 20, 2008 at 21:56
Just about everyone in the Arsenal world thinks it’s a good signing, there will always be a few that won’t like it…..Silvestre will benefit us….and we got a good deal.
August 20, 2008 at 21:58
Nowhere has said it isnt either hounddog
My gut feeling on this is that Silvestre has come into add cover so that Song or Toure can become CM players.
I dont think that was the original plan, but once Wenger knew he was available he saw another great (In his opinion) reason to shop at PoundStretcher.
August 20, 2008 at 21:59
Silvestre will befit us but I fear that it will be at the expense of bringing in a ready made CM player. Really hope I am wrong
August 20, 2008 at 21:59
Should have said Benefit us
August 20, 2008 at 22:02
PoundStretcher!
August 20, 2008 at 22:05
A lot of guys on Sky Sports can’t understand why Ferguson would sell Silvestre to us but wouldn’t sell Henze to Liverpoo because their rivals! They are coming to the conclusion that Ferguson doesn’t see us as a rival any more!
Dick heads!
August 20, 2008 at 22:07
patthegooner: True, but as I said, until the window is closed we can’t jump to conclusions. IMO the Silvestre transfer makes sense as it gives cover to several positions and provides us with various other options. I think you will find we will sign Inlar before the window closes.
August 20, 2008 at 22:08
Welcome aboard Hounddog!
Silvestre signed right?
August 20, 2008 at 22:09
anyone know, can he head the ball?
August 20, 2008 at 22:11
chelsea reject manyoo reject, alonso will be a defensive hat-trick
August 20, 2008 at 22:11
yet again ferguson has mugged wenger right off…this is a truly poor judgement by wenger he is rapidly letting all his good work go to waste.
August 20, 2008 at 22:14
I heartily disagree with you BOY you have called this one wrong. In fact it is Ferguson who has erred tactically and strategically.
August 20, 2008 at 22:14
Robin’s stunner:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ve1UF4L6gLM
People hyped cantona as greatest PL player for his great goals. (It’s DB10 or TH14 to me)
I have to say RVP has to be one of his kind with plethora of great goals. Fantastic goal again!
August 20, 2008 at 22:14
i am absolutely flumoxed by this signing i am still in diss-belief am i dreaming …..HELP
August 20, 2008 at 22:14
I think the silvestre signing means that toure will be our defensive midfielder. To be honest i would gladly put my life in his hands so having him in the holding role is something i welcome! If the injuries happen to silvestre like they did at the mancs then we have plenty of cover(djourou, senderos, toure in an emergency)
. I also feel having him beside gallas will relax the cap. We all seen him have a go at Djourou, don’t think he’ll go for a guy with more experience and medals than him the same way.
August 20, 2008 at 22:15
Boy Better Know? Can you explain how ferguson mugged off Wenger if Wenger made movements to sign Silvestre. That is unless you know how much he signed for, if so you must be a club insider! So if it isn’t too much of a hassle would you mind disclosing more indepth facts regarding the money situation?
August 20, 2008 at 22:16
Same situation as the Diarra deal as far as why Ferguson would sell, he wasn’t in their plans, they weren’t going to offer him a new contract, they’d end up paying wages for a player who had no future with them, they have other options they’d prefer to use.
I don’t think the central midfielder idea is dead in the water, I think this was a last minute swoop and that we have another player in the pipeline. Flamini and Gilberto gone, Diaby injured, Song seen as a centre back….
We can’t risk Denilson in big champions league games….or Ramsey for that matter….we need a midfielder, we’re still short in midfield as Wenger said so we don’t have the luxury of not being interested in an experienced midfielder.
August 20, 2008 at 22:16
No panic. Silvestre is to cover Clichy. Until one of Gibbs, Traore, and Pedro (now our great man, the young LB on loan) come good for us. I’d certainly trust him than Traore.
August 20, 2008 at 22:18
timao how am i wrong
August 20, 2008 at 22:19
Toure will not be CDM for us. Song would be an option me thinks. I favour that as well.
August 20, 2008 at 22:19
I don’t understand all the negativity coming from Arsenal fans we have just signed a player with 40 caps for his country and 8 years experience in the EPL and your still not pleased!
August 20, 2008 at 22:19
Pedro: Thank you. Great site!!
August 20, 2008 at 22:20
adom firstly you got to look at his Injury situation secondly his ability and thirdly al the A.K.B’S are out in force tonight boi
August 20, 2008 at 22:21
if he just did it to piss off roy keane, money well spent!
August 20, 2008 at 22:21
P.s what a goal from van p i hope hes not injured after that shot tho
August 20, 2008 at 22:22
I would as well Gooner07, but we need one more, Wenger admitted interest in Inler but “not especially”.
Wenger announced we’re in the market for a defensive midfielder last week, that has not been retracted, here’s the story again:
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/wenger-we-re-not-especially-targeting-inler
August 20, 2008 at 22:22
We will sign another CM.
It’s like summer of 97′ with someone got for less fee after an injury struck season -Overmars (Nasri), a CDM in Petit (the new signing we all wait for), and one obvious cover for different positions in Grimandi (Silvestre).
August 20, 2008 at 22:23
IF we end up bringing an existing defender into central midfield on a permanent basis (choices could be Eboue Toure Song or Djourou as I see it), it will be disappointing because we were all expecting a CM signing, and signings usually perk us all up and get us excited and make us feel confident…
…BUT it wouldn’t necessarily be a disaster. We have changed the roles of players before, to great effect:
Petit from LB/CB to CM
)
Grimandi from CB to CM
Lauren from CM to RB
Henry from LW to CF
Toure from CM to CB
Eboue from RM to RB (okay im joking on this one
I’m just saying, it might not be a situation where everything goes tits-up as a result of not forking out for another player. If it has worked before, which in every one of those five examples above it has, then there’s no reason why it couldn’t work again.
I would feel disappointed if we don’t sign a midfielder, but then again if we have a player that steps in and does a good job, I won’t be complaining then. There is every chance of signing a player and them being shit or not adapting or doing a Diarra, so it’s all a lottery.
August 20, 2008 at 22:23
BOY how are you right?
August 20, 2008 at 22:23
oops that was meant to say Eboue from RB to RM of course
seeing as it was a joke anyway, it doesn’t really matter!
August 20, 2008 at 22:24
tim how am i not?
August 20, 2008 at 22:25
BOY, not what?
August 20, 2008 at 22:26
tim what?
August 20, 2008 at 22:27
what, what? old boy, bloody good show this Silvestre chappie what?
August 20, 2008 at 22:27
Seb I think you was right the first time in predicting him switching back to his preffered position in the future as cover for Bac! Lol
August 20, 2008 at 22:27
finestcuts,
Yes, thus my post at 10:22 pm (right after yours)
I’m certain there will be a new signing to cover CM. Btw, have to say you are one of my favorite posters here. Cheers.
August 20, 2008 at 22:27
i just dont know how people can justify this signing especially when hes a manc.the other ? is why did a.f not want him anymore if hes so good..
August 20, 2008 at 22:29
he’s not he’s shit – but probably better than half our defence QED…
August 20, 2008 at 22:31
BBK Gallas was a chav, how is that any better?
the fact is, Silvestre wasn’t needed in the current Man Utd setup, but he is EXACTLY the kind of player we need right now. Our situation and squad is completely different to theirs, so saying ‘he wasn’t good enough for the mancs’ is to completely miss the point.
August 20, 2008 at 22:31
Cheers Gooner07, I do end up in battle occasionally, it got a bit ugly earlier when me and Jimbo were at loggerheads, all the crew here provide interesting posts.
August 20, 2008 at 22:32
top_gooner_stow yes that did cross my mind ^^
August 20, 2008 at 22:33
Dude it makes it all the sweeter that we are weakening the mancs squad! He had several parties interested but as soon as Arsene got on the blower he was straight down the M1! Arsene must have some phone manner first Ramsey and now Silvestre over the blower! Arsene should go for a job in telesales after his football career is over! Lol
August 20, 2008 at 22:34
How long have arsenal fans been complaining about experience and when we get a prime piece their complaining. He’s proven at the highest levels and he came for presumably peanuts.
August 20, 2008 at 22:34
seb are you serious gallas is 10 times better then silvest
August 20, 2008 at 22:36
United are looking to bring in Rafael as Ol Red Nose is looking into youth for the future himself it is being said by some mancs!
August 20, 2008 at 22:37
how long has this guy been injured for?yet another injury prone player wenger has got in the ranks sounds really good to me
August 20, 2008 at 22:38
English national team = shit.
They have a pack of overrated, overpaid, and less skilled players. 2-2 with supposedly world class defense. Hahaha.
A slap on the face of sky, and the english press who keep gloating, and supporting the cunts in PL coverage as well.
Also, good to see that pikey Looney ‘fat bastard’ fuck up like a prick again. Terry, Cuntley (you’re a joke), fat frank, etc. Fuck you cunts, and screw you m-fuckers in WC qualification!
August 20, 2008 at 22:39
Here’s a Champions League re-mix for Champions League lovers
August 20, 2008 at 22:40
Silvestre is a good signing… he is not long term and as a stop gap, he works.
He is experienced at winning… that is what we lacked last time around!
Well played Arsene… now go and get a DM!
Laters Grovers!
August 20, 2008 at 22:40
OTOH, we had another set of friendlies where our Arsenal players reigned supreme. RVP – classy player, and also, Willy gallas, Song – Extraordinaire.
August 20, 2008 at 22:41
Correction:
Song = Sagna
However, Song himself is on Song in Olympics, and in general for his country. Top player.
August 20, 2008 at 22:42
As much as it hurt as an England fan I part of me laughed seeing Cashley back to his shit ways putting the ball in the back of the net after all the commentaters were saying he was back to his best! Money grabbing CUNT
August 20, 2008 at 22:44
Finest,
That’s a weird video! haha
August 20, 2008 at 22:45
You said ‘i just dont know how people can justify this signing especially when he’s a manc.’
Im saying Gallas was at Chelsea, so did that mean we shouldn’t sign him either?
Clearly you dont have a problem with Gallas’ former club, so why bring up Silvestre’s club?
He was injured for most of last season, but we have signed plenty of players who have had major injury problems in the past, and who have gone on to be top class players for us. And Silvestre was good enough for United to sign and play in almost 250 games, he has been capped many times for one of the world’s best international sides, so I really don’t see what your problem is.
August 20, 2008 at 22:46
I stopped being an england fan ages ago. Best part of the game was when stevie me fell on his ass, hope he’s injured and that fucking pikey rooney.
August 20, 2008 at 22:46
Tonight’s performance gives a clear indication, that it wasn’t just about McClaren, this England team do not play well together…..it’s mystifying because they’re some of the best players in the world. Why don’t England go Dutch and try 4-3-3, I think that would work better than what’s been happening over the last few years.
August 20, 2008 at 22:47
Well said Seb I concur and on that note i’m off! Night folks
August 20, 2008 at 22:48
Yeah the vid sucks Gooner07, i agree, the tune’s pretty good.
August 20, 2008 at 22:48
we should not of got gallas from them cunts the only reason i came to reason with it is because of that cunt cole.
August 20, 2008 at 22:49
Shame vela is injured though
August 20, 2008 at 22:51
The mancs are having the last laugh at us again money and rid of a crocked player well done arsene you have sorted all of our problems with this one truely well done clap, clap
August 20, 2008 at 22:51
Well if you decide whether a player is good enough for us on the basis of whether you like his former club or not, then there’s no point trying to reason with you anymore.
August 20, 2008 at 22:55
I really wonder if toure is going to play DM now.
because i really thought JD looked good at CB so i dont think it should have been a priority for wenger to sign silvestre before a DM.
August 20, 2008 at 22:56
so seb your happy to have a man u reject at arsenal then yeah
August 20, 2008 at 22:57
and do you really think this signing will take us to the next level ???
August 20, 2008 at 23:02
The guy is absolute quality on the ball. One of the best long passing defenders I’ve seen. He’s also left-footed and quick so he gives us nice balance bombing forward when the other team sits back.
Can be dodgy at the back but it still more reliable than Senderos.
This strengthens the squad. Time will tell if it does so significantly.
August 20, 2008 at 23:08
yeah great silvest is the answer all we need now is saha to back him up.what a joke if people think he is going to be the missing piece in the jigsaw of missing PIECES then were on to a winner. All we need now is that great player inler and were all set for the treble………IN WENGER WE TRUST…
August 20, 2008 at 23:19
BBK he is cover, bishcoff wont take us to the next level but if he gives us a deeper squad i think most of us are happy to have him around
August 20, 2008 at 23:22
biscoff please dont even go there as for squad depht most of them would not even get into the other top 3 clubs team that is the problem why arsenal are winning nothing….
August 20, 2008 at 23:24
with bischoff though we wont have to risk a better player in the carling cup and you can’t say that Silvestre isn’t good cover, he’s better than bloody Senderos
August 20, 2008 at 23:24
all we are settleing for is second rate or even 3rd rate at best and getting exactly what we deserve for lack of quality…..sweet F.A……
August 20, 2008 at 23:25
treze please tell me you are winding me. bitch cough are you serious?????
August 20, 2008 at 23:26
lol silvestre isn’t 3rd rate hes an international with EPL and CL experience that doesn’t come from being “3rd rate”
August 20, 2008 at 23:27
the guy has only played 1 match and your going to tell me he is going to be yet another saviour of arsenal
August 20, 2008 at 23:28
to me we can’t lose with bischoff we got him for free and if he helps out in the carling cup then we gain something, if he turns out to be good we gain something, if hes a flop we lose nothing. Where is the bad side to that
August 20, 2008 at 23:28
BBK read over what i said when did i once mention he would turn out to be a saviour?
August 20, 2008 at 23:29
erm he was injured last season ok cool but do you think if he was fit he would of been in that man u team ahead of the other cunts they have got
August 20, 2008 at 23:31
no he wouldn’t be in their 1st team he was cover for them and with most people raving over how great Man U’s cover for their first team is then why complain that one has jumped ship?
August 20, 2008 at 23:34
because he has joined arsenal one of there yester year rivals we used to compete with them you know on a regular basis and with signings of the likes of bitch slap and silvest we are going to fall even futher behind them
August 20, 2008 at 23:35
Treze do you think arsenal will win anything this season?????
August 20, 2008 at 23:36
if they’re not in the first team how can they make us worse?
August 20, 2008 at 23:38
because they are cover for when the team gets injurys.
August 20, 2008 at 23:38
actually yeah i do probably F.A cup but we can definitely challenge for the league last year we showed that we can do it and now with defensive cover, a replacement for hleb that actually shoots and Vela, ramsey and wilshire coming through why can’t we go all the way
August 20, 2008 at 23:40
bbk. We did fucking compete with them last year. Didn’t you watch it? you negative people confuse competing with winning. We competed they won. That’s different from not competing. How is 4 points behind not competing.
August 20, 2008 at 23:41
so vela ramsey and wilshere will make us challenge titles yeah?
August 20, 2008 at 23:41
BBK you expect us to sign 1st team players from other clubs as our back up, not likely why would they leave if they’re not going to play? he came to us because Man u have alot of cover an he had alot of competition if he went to Man City he probably would have been a first teamer but instead he came to us as cover how do we lose out?
August 20, 2008 at 23:43
no but vela ramsey and wilshire can all contribute to helping us win titles they are top players for their age, Vela i believe could get at least double figures in goals this seasons too so yeah he will help us challenge
August 20, 2008 at 23:45
i expect signings to enhance us not fucking always set us back with there fucking injury problems every year….
August 20, 2008 at 23:45
ok we will see then
August 20, 2008 at 23:48
No one thinks silvestre will win us the title. Wenger got him for peanuts as a backup. Everyone said we lacked experience last year and now we get it some people are complaining. I can’t see how it can be negative.
August 20, 2008 at 23:49
this demise is down to wenger and the fuck heads on that board with no ambition for this club each year we are falling futher behind i.m.o last year was a one off the same will not happen again especially when wenger thinks he is a.f from all those years ago.Times have changed and money talks in football now not all these unexperianced players in this squad.
August 20, 2008 at 23:50
bbk If he sits on the bench (or in the treatment room) for the whole year how will it set us back. It was obviously an unplanned signing. He hasn’t come instead of anyone else.
August 20, 2008 at 23:50
because he is not a very good experianced back up player
August 20, 2008 at 23:50
thank you micheal thats what im saying
August 20, 2008 at 23:51
i will ask you goonermichael do you think with this squad arsenal will win a trophy this season
August 20, 2008 at 23:53
i suppose you think inler will be a good signing aswell
August 20, 2008 at 23:56
better than eboue
August 21, 2008 at 00:00
Here’s you’re headline for tomorrow:
“Wenger takes the Mik out of United”
Thank you and good night
August 21, 2008 at 00:01
when arsenal end up with fuck all again this season i hope you will all be happy. This crap we are putting up with from wenger and those cunts on the board make us a laughing stock
August 21, 2008 at 00:01
no heres the headline fergie mugs wenger off yet again….
August 21, 2008 at 00:07
I’ll go with mine simply because the squad is better off now that it was this time yesterday. You don’t add an international with 40 caps and 4 EPL titles and become worse off.
Granted, it makes a mockery of selling Pires/Vieira/Gilberto etc (Pires especially) but that doesn’t take away that he’s a quality play with another 3-4 years at the top left.
August 21, 2008 at 00:09
2006-2007 when he played they never lost except to us of course,
August 21, 2008 at 00:17
And BOY, its actually a rare peice of pragmatism from Wenger. He’s aware of our needs (tighten up defence – how many clean sheets in pre season?) and he’s siezed on an opportunity. As long as he fulfills the need for a DM then we’re pretty much where we should be.
We still might not win anything but that would be more to do with the spending power of our rivals.
August 21, 2008 at 00:23
I do think we will win a trophy. You will only gewt what you want if jabba takes over I’m afraid then we’re dead.
August 21, 2008 at 00:29
good to see old cashley cole turn in the goal for th czech’s
August 21, 2008 at 00:29
morning/evening all
August 21, 2008 at 00:39
see you all later
August 21, 2008 at 00:39
totally gutted-silvestreeeeeeee???????????????????? what the fuck???
Wenger has lost it big time , and proved that he can sigh ANY -repeat ANY football rubbish player , as long as he is french.
August 21, 2008 at 00:40
I hated him when playing for inter milan, hated him when in manure, and I will hate him playing for us-he is just rubbish
August 21, 2008 at 00:43
are we buying alonso now after his 2 goals overnight?
August 21, 2008 at 00:47
NO my namesake Evo-we will play silvestre the cartoon in midfield
August 21, 2008 at 00:55
nah i reckon its bollocks that we are after him. total beat up
August 21, 2008 at 00:56
hang on, i just checked, we already got him?
August 21, 2008 at 00:57
Evening all…
We’ve signed silvestre it seems? Hr’s gone and plucked something out of his wizard’s sleeve again.. Who saw that 1 coming?
It’s a good signing as it’s an experienced ex international, with a winning metality that can cover accorss the back 4.. Traore or silvestre? Plus senderos, djourou, song and now silvestre can cover the 1st choice pair of gallas and kolo…
It’s an ex-manc, but for an estimated 750k we’ve got what we wanted and vice versa the mancs.. They’ve offloaded someone who’s been injured and out of favour and we’ve got an added experienced body in we’ve been crying out for at the back… It would have been nice to have a nesta, a ayala, a vidic type etc, but the shrewd accumen of wenger will come to pass….
It’s quite clear he’ll live by and die by these signings this season…
If the inler rumour is true, happy days… If it isn’t someone else will come in… I’m still expecting a suprise… Vieira anyone?
I think we probably need a right winger in addition to obvious centre mid purchase…. But i think i’ll have a bit of arsene magic on wilshire instead of theo “blind alley” walcott…
Inler, Veluso or Vieira (just cause i can) for me…
As for england….
why don’t we try…
——Any 1 of 4 useless cunts——–
Richards—Rio—Wheater—Baines–
————Hargreaves————
——-Lampard—–Carrick—–
Theo/Gabby————–Downing/Young—-
————-Crouch——
Best way it’ll work with capello and only way…. You can’t have barry, gerrard and lampard in the same midfield…
Stevie Me is the media darling, but i’m back fat frank in a midfield on 5 to go forward whilst carrick and hargreaves sit…. We need pace that can beat men down the flanks… The aston Villa boys, theo or downing….
England are shite and untill these “names” who look good via the aide of their prem team mates get dropped i will not be watching again… What the **** dave is still doing there whilst playng in a mickey mouse league is beyond me….
And Rooney’s progress has taken a nose dive, he looks like someone who tries to hard for the team instead of producing match winning brilliance… He now looks medicore…. He didn’t even support defoe at all and drifted into his own half to get the ball on occassions….
Defoe had 2 half chances and spurned both… Crouch up top on his lonesome for me as if he get’s the service , he scores.. You cannot argue with that international record of his… Our strikers as a pair carry no fear factor and at best are second rate… Oh how we’re crying out for a sherigham and shearer right now…
August 21, 2008 at 00:57
far out, im way out of the news…cant believe we took him?
August 21, 2008 at 00:57
yea-totall bollocks- we wont sign alonso my friend- but junkies like silvester.
going to bed now-sorry Evo-nite from me
August 21, 2008 at 00:58
catch ya
August 21, 2008 at 01:02
reva – lampard had another dodgey game according to the media?
August 21, 2008 at 01:17
yeah he did, but it doesn’t wotk wth 2 or them, let alone 3… The 1st team needs an overhaul… The top 30-35 pick themselves… Players that don’t play in a top league or regularly shouldn’t get in….
I would back lampard to do well if barry and gerrard were’nt there… If we played like mourinho’s chelsea (which is a sad thing to say) we’d win and more convioncingly…. We can’t play 4-4-2 without owen, who is past it let’s be honest… Too many injuries, stuck at newcastle….
Crocuh scores the goals for england, a target man…. We just need t have wingers that can BEAT players instead of crossing it in from 30 yards out and we’d win games more efficiently…
England are not a technically gifted 1 touch and move team… No point in trying to play that way….
4-5-1/4-3-3.. Crocuh up top…. Downing/young or theo/agbonglhaor onthe flanks…
Hargreaves sits, carrick spreads play, lampard drives forward….
Beckham doesn’t produce
rooney doesn’t produce
gerrard produces against the lesser lites on rare occassions
owen doesn’t exist
ashton can’t stay fit long enough and sadly plays for west ham
No-one though, has the balls to change it… Not even a foriegner… The english media pick the team and they are thick as pig shite cunts, who go with every sudden turn of events as it’s a disaster (in the case of arsenal for having no british players… er… because they’re shite except wilshire of course) or think rooney is some kind of marradona, he ain’t just incase you were wondering…..
Engalnd are second rate at football, end of…. Shame no one in 2 weeks is gonna remember the names of 80% of our gold medalists at the olympics…
August 21, 2008 at 01:31
anyone see Larsson’s goal for sweden and henry’s assist for france, awesome!
August 21, 2008 at 02:08
Wenger didnt pull anything out of his sleeve more like his ass !
The jury is out on how well silvestre will be .. From the Man U boards a lot
of people say good back up for LB only .. dodgy as a CD !
he has been out since sept 07 !
and yes your right revelation , no one saw it coming … because IMO we didnt need him .. you have traore stunted – gallas who could cover so johan could play … not to mention senderos , who has to be sweating at the moment ..
song .. and not to mention the starting 4 …
He has been purchased so wenger can play musical chairs with the defenders
and pedro’s initial comment of toure going back to DM (which i initially laughed off !) i think we become true !
Having said that he has experience , and definately not the worst purchase in the world .. the juries out on how effective he will be .. time will tell …
but there had better be a similar experienced signing for DM !
and preferably arshavin wouldn’t be bad either ..
because if wenger things our defense is a bit weak he hasn’t looked at our strikers recently then !?!
we are 2 signings off competing ..
but overall silverstre’s signature if we get more players , can only be seen as a bonus
August 21, 2008 at 02:24
there you go ..
silverstre’s 1st arsenal words
Where In The back four?
When asked about the back four he replied that he saw himself as a centre back, and he had spoken to Wenger about that.
hmmm toure to DM ?
August 21, 2008 at 02:25
why would he talk starting positions if he was just cover ???
anyone ???
August 21, 2008 at 02:54
Maybe this is fergie’s way of sabotaging arsenal’s title chances this season ..
August 21, 2008 at 03:04
who cares, he’s in now, lets move onto the midfield signing, hopefully wenger is putting the finishing touches on the contract over in europe while these friendlies are on
August 21, 2008 at 03:08
WTF?? lmao, this is a good signing, I don’t know how people can say this is bad. We get an experienced defender of a title-winning pedigree, who has played at the highest level for less than a million. I happen to think that although his positioning isn’t that great, he is an astute signing, someone who can play all across the backline and do a decent job.
I still think Wenger will get a midfielder, but he recognises our slight lack of depth in the defensive area and has sorted it at least for the next few years.
I guess there is just no pleasing people lol.
August 21, 2008 at 03:17
agreed
August 21, 2008 at 03:44
So silvestre is signed then. Well we could be worse, we could have signed this sylvester
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oG2ixYJ79iE&feature=related
Anyway, thats 2 things we’ve knicked from old Sir Fur-on-Tongue. Number 3 could be the Trophy
August 21, 2008 at 04:19
hopefully mate
August 21, 2008 at 04:53
Sion De Freitas
I guess there is just no pleasing people lol.
people aren’t concerned about silverstre as such !!
they only concerned that , thats the end of wengers spending !!
does anyone remember him saying he we get ‘1 more ‘ addition to the squad ????
http://sport.setanta.com/en/Sport/News/Football/2008/07/31/Prem-Wenger-on-squad/
I guess there is just no POINT MAKING SOME PEOPLE REMEMBER
is there De Freitas ???
August 21, 2008 at 05:50
Now I’m pissed awf
Just when you find a player you happen to enjoy, this happens

August 21, 2008 at 05:55
……actually, I hope this silvestre signing hasn’t been the catalyst for the loan spell of Yoy Yo.
August 21, 2008 at 05:55
*Yo Yo
August 21, 2008 at 07:11
i doubt he’ll go on loan…
August 21, 2008 at 07:14
I hope you are right evo, I miss him already
August 21, 2008 at 07:21
It’s the third time this summer I’ve woken up depressed with an Arsenal signing.
August 21, 2008 at 07:25
G’Day Geoff, was it still in good knick, the programme?
August 21, 2008 at 07:52
Morning Gnarley, it was in top nick mate, thanks a lot, I’m going to frame it and hang it next to the signed picture of Wilkinson’s drop kick!
August 21, 2008 at 07:55
Silvestre is the first Man Scum player to move from the scum to the good guys in over 34 years!
August 21, 2008 at 07:57
Well, I reckon it will be hard to get now, even more so in Old Blighty so thats great.
August 21, 2008 at 08:08
A piece of history Gnarley! A piece of history!
August 21, 2008 at 08:16
New Post!
August 21, 2008 at 08:18
I knew we needed to give A LOT! of these kids some real football this season
(loan them out ! )
but silvestre in for johan out isnt a bad move …
it means arsene should still be signing a DM ..
wouldnt you think …
the books are balanced on defenders again .. so it means no one will hopefully
be converted !
August 21, 2008 at 08:18
fuck
August 29, 2008 at 17:28
