The Inler rumour persists, but the story that we could have signed Arshavin had we met his salary demands is interesting, I wonder what they were? His agent said this,

The guy is absolute quality on the ball. One of the best long passing defenders I’ve seen. He’s also left-footed and quick so he gives us nice balance bombing forward when the other team sits back.
Can be dodgy at the back but it still more reliable than Senderos.
This strengthens the squad. Time will tell if it does so significantly.

We get an experienced defender of a title-winning pedigree, who has played at the highest level for less than a million. I happen to think that although his positioning isn’t that great, he is an astute signing, someone who can play all across the backline and do a decent job.
I still think Wenger will get a midfielder, but he recognises our slight lack of depth in the defensive area and has sorted it at least for the next few years.
