50 greatest Prem goals were all Arsenals / Drop Adebayor

by & filed under Uncategorized.

So I watched the 50 best ever premiership goals last night on Sky one and nearly all of them were Arsenal goals, but the Henry one against Spurs didn’t win it, gosh I wonder why??? Anyway it took me down memory lane all the same, shit if we could have Pires, Vieira, Henry and Bergkamp back we would be stacking the trophies up right now!

Still no news on the new signing, maybe Wenger is having another look at Barry at the training ground England seem to be sharing with us these days. Can’t think what else will be holding him up.

The Chavs have peaked so they don’t bother me, when they get their injured players back the arguments will start, the Mancs are shit without the grease ball and Liverpool just aren’t good enough, notice I didn’t mention the spuds!

Our kids will only get better and we haven’t unleashed Wilshere on them yet, so I’m feeling confident, Djourou will fill the centre back spot so that only leaves defensive midfield and the mystery buy to come in.

Don’t know who, but I don’t care, anyone from the list will be good enough in my book.

A lot of comments on the night shift regarding the black hole that is Arsenal and their money, perhaps they’re buying Shite Hart lane to use instead of Underhill for our rubadubs, that would make sense and it’s nearer.

Still no sign of Cesc but when he and Rosicky get back we’ll start to fire on all cylinders, so if we can keep the 1-nils going until then, I’ll be more than happy.

Wenger has asked us to get off Ade’s back as he has now signed a bigger, better, long term deal on double bubble, I think that’s fair as it will be at least a year before he wants to leave again and we should give him the benefit of the doubt, I would however drop him to see if that makes him find out why he got the new deal in the first place.

Maybe start Vela with Nikki B or Robin, let Ade know he’s not Thierry and he doesn’t get an automatic starting place in the team, especially when he plays like shit.

We haven’t lost a game or conceded a goal and we are in effect, top of the league, it will only get better, spare a thought if you will for the spud fans, yes all three of them, another £49 mil spent and another loss! Ha, ha, ha! good move David Bentley!

I don’t know why The Grove was so empty on Saturday so Arsene take note, we will not be taken for granted for 4 consecutive years, we are not Tottenham, we are the Arsenal.

I think I would have sent Randall out on loan and kept Barazite but there you go, what do I know? That’s Arsene Wenger’s department.

Have a great day today Grovers, sometimes things happen when you least expect them to.

    Treze,

At the moment, the games are selling out, even if not all those that have bought tickets are chosing to attend. So we’re not exactly in a crisis yet.

But sales are undeniably slowing down – it’s a clear indication that a lot of ‘fans’ (and I use the inverted commas deliberately) decide not to shell out when they see that their investment isn’t matched by the clubs. A lot of people are bored of watching Arseanl not really trying.

  2. Gooner07

    Jimbo,
Come on, everytime you target Wenger for our transfer policy, and go easy on the swear words mate. Reserve it on the board. They spoil Wenger with their budget aspirations. Don’t forget their constant whining on wage cap, they get rid of highly paid players*, and never sign seasoned players, as they demand high

*So next season, it should be Adebayor.

  3. ethangunner

    goonermichael

    armchair fans indeed

HEHEHE wot other kind of fans are there ? the put there boots on kind ??
    a fan is a watcher michael ..

  4. Jimbo

Gidster – the whole ‘we play the best football’ argument is nonsense.

Absolute hogwash. We don’t, and haven’t done for over 3 years. We’re good on our day, but most of the time we’re frustrating to watch, defensively frail, and inefficient in attack. Nothing attractive about that.

What we did have on our side last year was the fact that we so often ended up chasing a deficit – that did at least make us exciting.

  5. London

    Pedro

Of course you are right, there were empty seats all over the ground. It proved to me that the club do not have an effective exchange system. If for some reason I was not able to make a game at the last miniute, I wouldn’t know how to echange it. How the hell doe’s it work?

  6. Geoff

Jimbo I sit in club level, I love it, it’s a lot noisier there than underneath me in the North bank, I sit there with my cousins, son and mates and we own our section, before at Highbury I sat in West upper and that was like a morgue.

The language where I sit is fucking outrageous it reminds me of what it used to be like when I sat in the North bank at Highbury years back.

Duncan it was Di Canio a load of bollocks.

  7. Jimbo

Fair enough Geoff, if you say so.

Can’t say I’ve ever shared that experience in club level, and frankly, I’m not shelling out the extra cash to be proven wrong.

  8. ethangunner

    jimbo

i will promise you wenger will sign a DM ..
i know what you mean in the past , but losing flamini and hleb
was a cruel blow for wenger …

its his engine room .. and he knows he needs someone ..
    desperately ..

we still wont win anything ! but he needs the holding roll filled ASAP !

  9. Jimbo

Was it crueller than losing Edu and Vieira? Because Wenger did nothing about that.

Ethan, if you’re so confident, take the other side of my little bet…

  10. Gooner07

    Jimbo,

We did play the best football for past three years. If our style is inefficient. you should probably watch barca doing their stuff, it’s more direct, and yet they came out insipid in the end. We build an attacking move patiently (though an impatient fan gets peeved about it). But I think choy made a good point reg. that yesterday. We should be more faster in buildup play like our past successful teams, as this current style lets the opposition to organize better. Let’s not even talk about manure who start playing like bolton in big matches, and perhaps if it’s a derby or wigan, they play counterattacking football to win by big margin.

In europe, I’d place Arsenal ahead of Barca, Roma and Werder bremen in a puritan scale. No doubt about it.

  11. London

I sat in a box once, the beers were free and I, as usual, got over excited and started singing our clubs name; I was looked at as if there was something wrong with me.

  12. ethangunner

    jimbo ?
Ethan, if you’re so confident, take the other side of my little bet…

    what bet .. ? im a betting man !
and i can tell you if we dont get a DM with all these injuries wenger will be more criticized than ade !

i cant 100% say who it will be .. but im sure price is right wenger will know ..

    ARSENE KNOWS :)

  13. Jimbo

    Geoff,

Sat there a couple of times last season and the season before – don’t remember exactly where, but it was either east/west, not nort/south.

These days, I like to sit in the south upper (though I’m a silver member, so tend to move about a bit as well). Atmosphere’s usually a bit better further back, but you get a lot of tourists and ‘SIDDAAAAAANS’ as well.

  14. Pedro

London, I have no idea… but what I do know is that when you are a season ticket holder, you usually have an abundance of contacts who can take the ticket off your hands.

If your not going to go anyway, lending it to a fellow gooner isn’t costing you anything is it?

  15. Jimbo

    Ethan,

As I said, if Wenger signs one more player (over 18) I’ll leave this blog forever – I’m confident he won’t though.

Reckon you’ll take the other side of that?

  16. Geoff

Yeah we get them too, we just ignore them though!

London my mate has a box on the half way line, warm bottled beer though, I was there for the Chavs game and called Terry a cheating chav muppet cunt and no one said a word, not even the stewards.

  17. Jimbo

Edu wasn’t shite in the season before he left – he was brilliant.

Regardless of what he did when he left – he was an important part of a successful Arsenal side that Wenger completely failed to replace. Stupid move from Arsene.

  18. Gooner07

“Gooner07, I’ll go easy on the swears, but not on Arsene.

He’s making us look like buffoons.”

    Hmmm, your call mate.

Perhaps you have a point on us looking as buffoons as we came potless towards the end, after so much promise. Moreover, the standards have dropped a bit. We expected to win the title every year, and we are on a low for past three years. Moreover, it was within Wenger’s capacity to sign, and cover the weaknesses, he didn’t. He let the pressure get onto the players, and they made mistakes. They also lose fitness because of less rotation, thanks to a small squad. And also, playing players out of position. In all fairness, one should be peeved.

But you should weigh his work on a higher plane, taking all things into perspective. And I think the current board’s aspirations and strategy has made it a bit too complacent for him. The youth policy is a risk, and Wenger wants to do a miracle, and do something unique than the bank job way. So yes, it’s a bit of gamble that has made it ‘disappointed love’.

  19. Jimbo

See Gooner07, I don’t disagree with that, at all.

Problem is, we could achieve so much more if Arsene just got his act together, but sadly he’s just put his personal ambitions above the club’s best interests, and it’s hurting us.

  20. jules

    DAVID

how come alonso can not play in the cl at all and barry can in the knock out stages .

is it because barry played eufa cup making eligible for second stage and as alonso played cl quals thus , he can not play at all . ????

  21. Gooner07

    List of heart attacks:

98-99′ – lost to leeds and lost the championship too! More painful than Giggs goal in FA cup semis, Bergy did miss a penalty!

99-00′ – UEFA cup final. So much domination. Lost in penalties.

02-03′ – string of loses, most notably leeds, which was again a choke. Sol missed in the end, and we certainly missed the presence of Adams (Wenger failed to replace him with a seasoned defender)

03-04′ – should have won the treble. Lost the big games in cup competitions. I blame Wenger for this, as the team was pretty much fit. But they weren’t up for it!

04-05′ – Poor defending throughout the season. missed lot of players to key injuries.

05-06′ – Mad jens, joker almunia (Again mediocre goal keeper signed by Wenger), choker Henry. Lost 2-1 in UCL finals.

07-08′ – Choked towards the end. They say its injuries, ref decisions, poor captaincy, no signings, etc. But I think it’s a combination of lot of things that culminated to a disappointing season.

  22. david

Jules you can only play in one competition in a season or you are eligible to play in a different competition after christmas.

Alonso can play for us if we drop down to the UEFA cup for instance..

  23. London

    Pedro

I sit with 5 mates and there is always someone who will gladly take my ticket if I can’t go.

At half time on Saturday I over heard someone saying that they had a spare but couldn’t find anyone to take it; which made me think, ‘how do you exchange it? I assume that Bud gave Odub his ticket because none of his regular mates could make it, so this situation does occur.

So if someone like you, who talks about Arsenal for large parts of the day, doesn’t know how the exchange system works it goes to show that it is not very effective.

  24. Pedro

London, you’re not wrong! I’ve not investigated the exchange yet?

Bud giving Odub a ticket wasn’t becuase he’d run out of ideas, it was just because Le Grovers are pretty mad about football… and it would be unjust lending a ticket to someone who wasn’t a mad gooner!

  25. Gidster

    Jimbo.

Ive watched a lot of utd, chelsea and pool games and i have to turn off sometimes coz there’s so little skill on display. Utd play on the break. They get it to Ronaldo as quickly as possible and he either scores, sets someone up, or falls over. Otherwise, they try to get it in the box and scrap. Its direct, effective, but it isnt visionary. It isnt cultured. Its quite a lot like George Graham football.

Chelsea are physically dominating. There is nothing about them that was ever attractive or interesting or progressive. They have some skillful players but Mourinho and Grant suffocated that skill with their safety first tactics.

There is no argument with Pool. They are a tactical team who bore everyone to death.
Ask any football fan: “who would you rather pay to watch? Pool or Arse?”… no brainer.

I remember watching the Utd game at Old Trafford last year. We went into that game dead and buried, title challenge blown. Utd were on the up, cruising towards to the title. They were supposed to come out and put their football all over us, show their fans that they were better than us. And they couldnt get the ball off our midfield. They couldnt string 3 passes together. We danced round them, toyed with them. There was absolutely no doubt who was the superior football team.

Remember I said we were flawed? Well, we were that day too. Utd got a penalty from a crap block from Gallas, and dived for a free kick which Hargreaves did well to get up and down and in. Fair play to Utd. They won the game. But even Fergie knew that his boys had been shown up, that our FOOTBALL was superior to theirs. We make games entertaining with the way we play. Other teams cant play with us, they can only try to disrupt us. And because we are flawed, sometimes it works.

  26. Gooner07

    Jimbo,

Wenger’s youth grooming is of course a bit too irritating when we lose worldclass players like Vieira, Henry, pires, ljuenberg, sol, cuntley, bergy, etc.. (goes on) He needs to buy proper replacements sometimes but he never did it. He plays with transfer market like we do in stock market. he gets upcoming ipo, and go for long term. He grooms them with different situations, and contexts in the game, building them up for high pressure games, and consistency.

First set lost in a uefa cup, and FA cup final. But Wenger wanted ‘em to be groomed, helping themselves to various stages of cup competition, and also playing in big games. And in next three years we won two titles (almost three). Now with his next set, they once gain lost in UEFA champions league, Carling cup, and nearly lost in FA cup, but Scholes missed his penalty, and we won it. This new set of younger players have gone through the pressure, and mostly lost. The main idea of grooming is still bang ON. But..but we are not in ideal situation. Having cunts like adebayor or hleb will not help the cause, as they are f-ing low life mercenaries. Flamini is a lottery, and I think wenger won it the end. but like any money earned with luck, it goes out of nowhere. He went the way he came! Now we are down to a set of players, if they could do a similar run like in 01-04, it would be fantastic. But I don’t think this current set play the way they should. It’d help them if they work down the whole possession, and ball retention for better cause, and also keep their concentration. IF they do that, we will be something special. Although, it’s also down to a bit of luck, which evaded us completely last season.

Sometimes, optimism isn’t a bad thing.

  27. jules

so nasri injured and we are i assume back to eboue on one side an theo on the other

if wenger thinks this SQUAD is good/big enough to compete on all fronts he is dreaming

i guess vela can come in which something .

  28. choy

gidster well said… but the fact is that is our football good enough to win trophies?

manu as you said play mainly on the counter and yet they won two top trophies last year!!!

its like jens saying technically arsenal are better than manu and chelsea.

but technically man u are champions!!!!!

  29. tbuzz

    Morning/Afternoon Grovers!!
    Top post Geoff.
As much as I should support any player in an Arsenal jersey, Ade has brought this upon himself and didnt feel sorry for him being booed. If he came out and apologised for his actions,I’ll say let it rest.To demand an increase after a “decent” season from £35K/week is ok by me, but to go infront of the camera and say because other clubs are interested in him and declare his future is not certain(even though he claimed he would honour his contract just a few minutes b4,at a press conference), was out of order.
I am an Ade fan and I hope he redeems himself by improving from last season, his offside dilema, assists(eg to Nicky Bendy),shooting from an angle, heading etc…

On another note, Nasri is alleged to be injured, just after being called up by france.
This is the second report so far since his signing that he has been reported to be injured. I really hope he’s not here to give Rosicky/RVP a run for their money :(

    Whatever happened to GMR………?

  30. Geoff

GMR fell out with Jimbo and has taken a sabbatical, I emailed him and asked to to come back on as we like him, he said he reads Le Grove every day but he’s having some time off, I hope he’ll be back soon.

  31. charybdis1966

I think Gidster was trying to explain that in the last 3 years we still play an entertaining style of football as some others we’re trying to imply we were no longer an attractive draw for neutrals interested in football from an aesthetic point of view.

I don’t think the intention was to imply it was a WINNING style of football just more pleasing to the eye than the Chavs grinding physicality and the mankscummers kick and run.

  32. Pedro

Chary, I think Gelbs just likes getting a reaction(‘Arsene should die’)… I don’t believe anyone can be that OTT without being on a wind up… It would be like having an extreme hatred of Theo Walcott… it’s just not natural!

  33. charybdis1966

Pedro – Gelbs’ Iliad-like posts were quite legendary in my eyes, although he did recylce them (from postings of his on other blogs) with a few “topical” inserts.

  34. Bren

    Afternoon all.

Kolo in centre midfield is a real possibility as we progress through the year. Would still like us to sign a Centre Back – I think it will be badly needed come the business end of the year.

Again, loads of empty seats at the ground on Saturday. This is becoming an all to regular occurence. It means that many real fans are not getting access to the games. Something needs to be done and quickly.

I hope were not becoming a prawn sandwich brigade !!

  35. Pedro

Chary, he has the same post that he adds a bit to every week… then by the time he posts it, it is about 20 pages long!

He posts it all over the net and gets a similar reaction on most sites bar ours… we are a tolerant bunch!

  36. Paulinho

Wenger actually said on Arse Tv the other day that ‘he finds new midfielders every day’. By that he meant the game on Saturday showed him that Eboue could be a central midfielder as well as Ramsay against Twente last wednesday.

So don’t be surprised if Wenger tries to squirm his way out of signing a central midfielder.

  37. Gooner07

good that nasri is out for thigh injury (more of a caution). He will train with us, and play on Saturday. Moreover, we saved cesc from getting seriously injured in an international friendly. LEt’s hope our key players come back without a serious injury. Especially clichy, sagna, and gallas!

  38. goonermichael

I miss GMR even though he’s slated mw a couple f times for no reason. I have to work on saturdays so I can only go midweek. If it’s a sunday game I have to try to get 3 tickets cos I can’t go without my boys. The first midweek (league) game isn’t for a while though.
    Think I’ll check now

  39. Arsenal Tom

michael… that’ll be moved mate, far too much sky and pub money to be made to leave it as a mid-week one… id put money on it being 12.45 on a sat

  40. Queen of Suburbia

A strain isn’t usually too bad to be honest – it could be that Nasri is still smarting a bit after his 15 minute run out in the Euros and thought he’d give himself a few more days to recover for the next Arsenal game…

  41. Duncan

its all to confusing on the cuptied issue, perhaps we need to check the uefa rulings for definate ruling, i understood it as itwasonly a qualifier and not a CL group game, that if he changes club he can’t play until the group stage is over, like if we sign a player whohas played in the eufa cup he can’t play until the same time, i may be wrong, but i’m sure AW knows who can and cant play in CL, well i hope he does!

  42. Queen of Suburbia

It’s definite that he can’t Duncan, the Qualifiers count as part of the competition. Barry could play after xmas though, but lets face it, if we were going to sign Barry, or Yaya we’ve had all summer to do so.

  43. david

Barry CANNOT play for Arsenal after christmas(Champs League) , he can only play UEFA cup for any other team apart from Liverpool until next season..

  44. Queen of Suburbia

For it to be 6 weeks, it’d need to be a tear Tom rather than a strain.

I did a second degree tear on my Quad at Aikido in April and it was 6 weeks then. A strain can be as little as 5 days for full recovery. I think he just didn’t want to risk it playing for that twunt Domenech!

  45. Arsenal Tom

Rosicky – We win as a team and lose as a team

In the light of reports in the English media on Tuesday morning, Tomas Rosicky has issued the following statement.

“I would never blame individuals for the team not lifting a trophy. We are in it together. We win as a team and we lose as a team. As individuals, we all make mistakes and the message I was relaying to a Czech newspaper was that we are more experienced now and have learnt from last season.

“We came so close last year to winning something and we will be giving it our all to win a trophy this year.”

  46. david

Liverpool must be fucking idiots playing him for that one game, They ave taken away the interest of the richest clubs in europe and if Alonso wants Champions league football he has to stay at the pool…
I would love to see the rows going on at managment level up there..

  47. Arsenal Tom

Tomas Rosicky has dismissed the importance of former Arsenal teammates Alex Hleb and Mathieu Flamini.

The midfielder said: “We’re more experienced now, precisely because of what we have gone through. We took a huge step forward.
    MUCH BETTER FROM ROSICKY…

“At the end of last season, we finished just four points behind the winners Manchester United.

“I’ve already said we will be competing for the title even though people don’t have much confidence in us. It was the same situation a year ago, when Thierry Henry left.

“He was a much bigger icon than the lads who have gone now – and we coped with that.”

  48. Evo in Oz

nasri had the same thigh strain before the WBA game, maybe wenger is just saying F you to the international games and not sending anyone he doesnt want to?

  49. Duncan

i think if i’m reading this right, that Alonso will be cuptied, but Barry can play all CL games if he’s restitered in time

  50. charybdis1966

And so it came to pass that the sicknote issued the anticipated denial of him blaming Clichy and Gallas for the teams disentegration last season.

I don’t know why anyone should believe a word the gutter press say.

Didn’t I say hacks are only one step abve primordial slime, two steps below estate agents and traffic wardens ?

Exactly. Especially to the joker domenech.

  52. Duncan

makes interesting reading this, i’m still confused by it all, we should have signed people before the start of the compitions anyway

  53. Geoff

At least you noticed Pedro, I’m air-side at the moment, did I tell you I have an ‘iphone’ and I played golf with two broken fingers?

Rosicky – We win as a team and lose as a team

  55. Geoff

Ok Chary, it means to be through security at the airport about to board ones private jet.

Or waiting for a Monarch flight, pick whichever suits your budget, that’s air-side folks!

  56. tbuzz

Does anyone know if Theo has been included in the squad for tomorrow’s game? Sorry, Ive been under a rock these past few weeks.

  57. Geoff

Gooner07 in the words of Adam Sindler, does it blow you? can you fuck it? well I have the new iphone with 8gb and a whore option, which I took, it ups the monthly payment a little, but the sex is great and I get 1600 free texts!

  58. Gooner07

“I have the new iphone with 8gb and a whore option, which I took, it ups the monthly payment a little, but the sex is great and I get 1600 free texts!”

I better get that new one then..hehe

  59. Pierre

can’t believe how retarded wenger has been this transfer window, alonso, great player now cup tied, barry, great player but possibly cup tied, players (Cana et al) linked to us but season has started and fuck all has happened, come on for fucks sake and make the moves!!!!

  60. Gooner07

Geoff is better than Pele. Like romario, he had sex in the plane. So he is better.

…Except that it’s with his new iphone.

  61. Pierre

adebaywhore, needs 10 chances to score a goal, wenger rewards him by giving him a 120% pay rise and begs the fans to get behind him. Fuck him is what the fans say, he’s a c*nt thro and thro, should have sold him and bought santa clause and granded martins, then how strong would our squad be? ffs, I’m so frustrated i could turn into Odubs avatar!

  62. MM

Is there any chance off cesc being back for the weekend? Don’t want to slip out of the top half of fantasy grove!

  63. MM

Been reading back on the comments pedro, maybe you could have a ticket exchange widget i know im always looking to beg steel and borrow a ticket!

  64. Pedro

    Yeah, good shout MM!

I have to set that up… I could be the holding man with the e-mail addresses and we could work it like that!

  65. tbuzz

Yeah Pierre, Odub had a sex change the other day. He’s no longer the Jolly Green  he’s now stripperella!! lol

  66. MM

    Thanks Choy!

Sounds good Pedro, i’m quite lucky have 4 sets of mates with season tickets so normally can blagg one from some where but know some people who can’t get a ticket for love or money!

  67. London

    Pierre

It is more accurate to say that Adebayor needs three gilt edged chances in order to score one goal but the thing you are forgetting is that he gets 90 gilt edged chances per season.

  68. dennisdamenace

Ha! I also have an iPhone, a black 16Gb one bought in Brussels so it’s not locked to any particluar network, i also have an 8Gb Nokia N95 Black, and to complime those two pieces of sexy hardware i have two, yes two crates of Peroni, a half crate of Marlborough 2007 Jackson Estate Sauvignon Blanc…………..happy days!

  69. charybdis1966

Tbuzz, I’m surprised Stan Lee hasn’t thought of a character with the superpower to change sex when angered.

The closest to that is Premenstrual woman – she has the superpower to win arguments with a simple yet devastating “COS I SAY SO !”.

  70. Pierre

London, I was including the number of times he runs offside in my calculation, which makes his hit rate much worse than 1 in 3 :P

  71. Stu

Ade could easily be worse this season. He was so good last season because he worked for the team, but towards the end of last season and so far this he has been greedy. When Ade plays for himself he playes bad. Why? Because everyone else makes him look good. We should have cashed in on him when we had the chance.

  72. dennisdamenace

    Pedro – If you’re collecting for a Le-Grove prizes (!) I’ve got a spare copy of Perry Grove’s book………
