50 greatest Prem goals were all Arsenals / Drop Adebayor

by & filed under Uncategorized.

So I watched the 50 best ever premiership goals last night on Sky one and nearly all of them were Arsenal goals, but the Henry one against Spurs didn’t win it, gosh I wonder why??? Anyway it took me down memory lane all the same, shit if we could have Pires, Vieira, Henry and Bergkamp back we would be stacking the trophies up right now!

Still no news on the new signing, maybe Wenger is having another look at Barry at the training ground England seem to be sharing with us these days. Can’t think what else will be holding him up.

The Chavs have peaked so they don’t bother me, when they get their injured players back the arguments will start, the Mancs are shit without the grease ball and Liverpool just aren’t good enough, notice I didn’t mention the spuds!

Our kids will only get better and we haven’t unleashed Wilshere on them yet, so I’m feeling confident, Djourou will fill the centre back spot so that only leaves defensive midfield and the mystery buy to come in.

Don’t know who, but I don’t care, anyone from the list will be good enough in my book.

A lot of comments on the night shift regarding the black hole that is Arsenal and their money, perhaps they’re buying Shite Hart lane to use instead of Underhill for our rubadubs, that would make sense and it’s nearer.

Still no sign of Cesc but when he and Rosicky get back we’ll start to fire on all cylinders, so if we can keep the 1-nils going until then, I’ll be more than happy.

Wenger has asked us to get off Ade’s back as he has now signed a bigger, better, long term deal on double bubble, I think that’s fair as it will be at least a year before he wants to leave again and we should give him the benefit of the doubt, I would however drop him to see if that makes him find out why he got the new deal in the first place.

Maybe start Vela with Nikki B or Robin, let Ade know he’s not Thierry and he doesn’t get an automatic starting place in the team, especially when he plays like shit.

We haven’t lost a game or conceded a goal and we are in effect, top of the league, it will only get better, spare a thought if you will for the spud fans, yes all three of them, another £49 mil spent and another loss! Ha, ha, ha! good move David Bentley!

I don’t know why The Grove was so empty on Saturday so Arsene take note, we will not be taken for granted for 4 consecutive years, we are not Tottenham, we are the Arsenal.

I think I would have sent Randall out on loan and kept Barazite but there you go, what do I know? That’s Arsene Wenger’s department.

Have a great day today Grovers, sometimes things happen when you least expect them to.

DDM/Chris – In the words of the immortal Bon Scott “Hell ‘aint a bad place to be” (as long as there are no spuds there of course).

  2. charybdis1966

Chris, can’t they post the tickets to you direct? Or what about asking them to forward it to the matchday box office at the Grove for collection on the day ?

  3. chris

they said they get the tickets 2 days in advance, i doubt teh box office would be impressed with tickets obtained from non arsenal aources however, but i am blind here so any advise is helpful and appreciated

  4. chris

ok, ill stop looking for a leaked copy for you so!

massive in this part of the world, personally wish they stopped after back in black

  5. charybdis1966

Your best bet is to pick it up from their offices when you arrive, assuming their office is in London. The games a 3 o’clock kick off at the moment so you should have enough time.

  6. MM

How do people get paper tickets? I thought unless tickets go on general sale there where all charged on to the plastic membership cards?

  7. charybdis1966

Chris, they we’re never going to top Back in black were they ? A bit like The number of the beast for Iron Maiden and Apetite for Guns’n roses – peaks that couldn’t be scaled again.

  8. dennisdamenace

How many other Premiership teams would allow players like Theo 2, 3, 4 seasons in the first team to prove themselves????

  9. charybdis1966

The players get paper tickets for friends and family also, as you’d expect. About 6 per match I think was the allocation. I remember hearing from someone who was a neighbour of Gio’s that he asked for payment for the tickets he got for her. On what he was on per week – cheeky.

  10. dennisdamenace

choy – agreed, but would you consider Theo to be called an automatic/regular first teamer at the moment, or is he still ‘proving’ himself, and if so how long should a club like Arsenal allow players like Theo in the first team to ‘prove’ themselves……

  11. MM

That prob accounts for some of the holes at the match the other day. i was sitting behind the away bench in my mates seat and there where loads of empty seats.

  12. choy

well we are a patient club aren’t we.. wenger is not under any pressure… so that automatically translates into the players being not under pressure…

    who would replace theo?
when eventually rosicky does come back i think theo will get his cameo appearances!!

.. and also we spent quite a sum on him so wenger wouldn’t want to get embarrassed!!!

  13. Arsenal Tom

DDM… at the mo id say he’s an automatic starter but mainly because we dont want eboue on the pitch!! he doesnt really have much competition (eboue only) as rosicky and nasri both play on the left

  14. ethangunner

    jimbo – from earlier ..

hey i don’t want you to leave the blog , but i think you’ll be on a hiding to nothing with that bet ! ..

even mr ‘sometimes delusional wenger’ wont under estimate his last signing
of this transfer window .. me personally id like to see at least 3 signings .
1 being a top class striker like villa – and midfielder like kaka ! ( apparently if you have a spare 70 mil :) ) and a big foot of a defender .. …

it wont happen , but im sure we will get someone over 18 as a DM !
with a ounce of experience ..

  15. MM

Think JW must be putting some pressure on for a spot in the midfield and at the mo would think it is Theo’s? For me Theo just doesn’t think like a football player, he has pace to burn but no brain to use it!

  16. ethangunner

    DDM

playing theo as a starter in his regular position of RW would be of some help to the lad ..

only mark c has the ability to be defender one week and striker the next ..
wenger needs to stop chopping and changing these lads about so we can get some cohesion in the team !

  17. kelsey

What do guys think Le Boss is going to say when speaking of Theo.He wont say he is disappointed that he is not forefilling his expectations. If we were a mid table club, experiment as much as you like with various players, but with our injury list you have to play with what you have got,and those in form should come first in the pecking order. Our squad is getter smaller and weaker,Ade and Bedtner have to combine, even if they hate each other, and I reckon it wont be long before Wilshere starts appearing. I said it before with a fully fit starting 11 we are a match for anyone, but there is some sort of jinx on us with repeated injuries.

  18. kelsey

We seem to be split down the middle with regards to Theo only time will tell, but I reckon this season is a defining one for him

  19. ethangunner

    kelsey

he was coming on nicely for a youngster last season , good pace and he was
getting some momentum going on that right wing .. Since the break he has been played as a striker – right winger – left winger .. in just about as many games ..

he will get his confidence back once wenger stabilizes his position ..
fighting for time with eboue doesn’t help either ..

wenger sometimes is his own worst enemy !

  20. Arsenal Tom

we gotta give theo a full season down the right… let him sort out his decision making and he’ll be terrifying for defenders… plus hes different to anyone else, rosicky, fab, and nasri are all similar and pass and move players where as theo is more of a runner

  21. Pedro

The will become a great player… of that I have no doubt. He has pace, skill and great finishing when he is on form.

He’s not cutting it out wide at the moment… but that will come. When it does and he performs over a season, he will be twice the striker for his experience.

I’m not feeling him there at the moment… and I don’t like the fact we will give a player 3 years to bed in… but at least he is English, and I guess we wont be moaning when he is banging in goals left right and centre by the 2nd half of the season!

Remember… he is only 19… not many player are ripping it up at 19.

  22. kelsey

If you look at Theo’s goals when Eduardo got injured both came straight down the middle, the great run at Anfield was down the middle for 90% of the run,yet on saturday at right wing I dont recall him beating the defender once.
Arsenal Tom,no one disputes his pace
ethangunner, you hit the nail on the head saying Wenger is sometimes his own worst enemy, though I would call it stubborness.

  23. BOY BETTER KNOW

The only person theo dazzles is himself he is so frustrating to watch at times.the only thing you can give him credit for is when he does it out of pure instinct.Like running of the the ball for the goal against sunderland, setting up the second against twente things like that make him unstoppable..

  24. Paulinho

Theo still can’t the ball out of his feet when he runs. He’s had two years to sort it out and he still does it.

  25. kelsey

Pedro,I think half the problem is that we are ridiculed all the time for not having english players, and the fans want him to succeed because he is english, and that is understandable. But will Wenger actually give him a chance week in and week out,and he is only eighteen months younger than Cesc.I think at nineteen and a half the signs should be there if he is going to be a great player, sorry to disagree with you.

  26. Paulinho

We still need another playmaking winger. Nasri is injured and Rosicky is a while away from returning.

We saw the difference Nasri made on Saturday. Our game flowed alot better with a intelligent ball handler on the wing. I don’t know why Wenger doesn’t stock up on those players.

If Nasri and Rozza are injured all we have is Walcott and Eboue and a bunch of forwards who can do a job there. Our possession game goes down the pan.

  27. dennisdamenace

I agree with you all (mostly) as i expect TW14 to become one helluva player, so long as AW gives him games in predominantly one position this season, i just fancied kicking off a little debate about our boy………

  28. Pedro

Theo isn’t loved by the fans because he is English, he is loved because he has all the ingredients to be an exciting player… I agree that it is a make or break season, but I have confidence!

Everyone has been pretty average so far this year, so lets go easy!

If it is still the same by December, then I will reasess… but I have faith in him!

His main problem is he over thinks… stop dithering Theo, and go with a decision!

  29. Rtist

    forward her what you like…

some of the comments by you and and a few other chumps on this otherwise excellent site enjoy the occasional pop at the colonies..whether it’s some smarmy little comment about “center” vs. “centre”…”the fuckin yanks don’t know nuffin about proper football”…I fuckin love the proper football..hard to find good bars to watch. Watch matches in English bars here in L.A…been to 2 matches at Highbury (got raped on the ticket prices)..watched the Arsenal v. Madrid match in London…best fuckin time of my life…

still…just a fuckin yank..got no right to an opinion..will sit quietly and read the comments of the experts.. but your site is the best around..end of rant.

  30. dennisdamenace

Regarding CL cup-tied players………….fuck it, sign ‘em, fuck the CL, like we’ve got a hope in hell of that this season, walk before you can run lads, it’s the EPL all the way for me this season, surely that’s gotta be our No.1 priority this season…….

  31. Pedro

Rtist, you are being way to over sensitive about a joke?

It seems especially over the top as another American won the gold anyway?

When does anyone ever slag off Americans on here? They don’t… race, religion, sex… none of it matters on here.

  32. Pedro

Fuck me, are we still talking about cup tied players?

If we sign Alonso, he can’t play until after Xmas… he misses the Group stages.

I reckon we’d sign him anyway, 6 months isn’t an eternity to go without a player… we do it every year with RvP anyway!

  33. dennisdamenace

Rtist – Well said fella, get it off your chest, you won’t hear me bad mouthing our overseas friends………………well except the convicts…………..ha ha ha!! No, seriously welcome aboard fella, no one has a nationality here, we’re all Gooners nothing else……….

  34. david

DDM … I’m with you on that one, but if we crowd the midfield with Diaby, Denilson. Toure, Djourou or even Eboue and let Ade or Theo play counter atacking football we may have a better chance at the CL anyway..

  35. dennisdamenace

Raif – I believe, but don’t quote me on it, that players currently cup-tied for the CL become eligible for the knock-out stages…………….d’ya know what fuck it, i’m gonna take a pek on the UEFA site to get this clarified, wish me luck fella i’m going in……..

  36. Goonerman

No no what have I done!!!!! Bought an England v Czech ticket for tomorrow night which means I have to cheer for John Terry.

    I’d rather top myself.

  37. London

If we had two players of equal ability and one was English it is more than likely that the Englsh player would get a loader reception than the other and why not, we are an English club.

There is no doubt in my mind that the extra volume of the roar that Theo receives is due to the fact that he is English. But this patriotism only lasts so long because first and foremost we want what is best for Arsenal.

I like everyone else want to see Theo succeed. I think he should be given until Rosicky returns to prove himself as genuine Arsenal quality after that I want Wenger to be ruthless and stop pandering to Theo’s “career development.”

  38. Adom

Wenger had jinx himself by saying he’ll only buy if one of our midfielders get injured, now he gets 2 for 1.

And previously cup-tied players are eligible after the group stages.

  39. dennisdamenace

London – I’d prefer to think that Theo get’s such a loud reception due to the fact he’s a young Gooner, rather than because he’s a particular nationality……….

  40. Rtist

..yeah..get a little over the top sometimes…livin with 8 years of Bush..it’ll fuck with ya big time..

As for the Arsenal..until Mr. Adebayor comes off (sub)..or doesn’t start (he seems better as a sub)..we’re gonna be choosin between him and a sharp pencil in the eye as to which hurts more..

    (fuck me…broke my silence)

  41. kingsley

do u guys think there is any chance wenger will use it as a chance to speak to barry? liverpool seem to be getting linked to rieira now so they may have moved on…..i know its highly unlikely but wondered wot u guys thought.

  42. choy

kingsley wenger doesn’t speak to players.. he speaks to the clubs who would then give him permission to speak to the player and agent!

  43. david

Alonso cannot play in the Champions League this season for any other team than Liverpool…
Historically, players were cup-tied in European Football after playing in any European club competitition, but the ruling has been refined such that a player may represent one club in the UEFA Champions League, and then another in the UEFA Cup or vice versa…

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cup-tied

  44. raif

    choy –

im pretty sure does or has done spoken to players without getting in touch with the Clubs.

we just dont tell the world like Real and Barca.

  45. Goonerman

Choy – he is a joker in the dressing room, mates with ade, powerful runner, gives the team balance, can shoot (albeit off terget like Hleb), defend and dive (from a positive perspective).

  46. kingsley

i am pretty sure wenger will have been in constant contact with villa over the summer. there was even that story about pat rice calling o’neill and asking wot the situation is. Wenger speaks to players all the time. in fact when we were trying to sign baptista wenger pissed his club off cos he didnt have persmission. when quizzed about it wenger actually said…’sometimes you need to find out if a player really wants to join before you made the effort to sort out a financial commitment’

anyway am just dreaming…he’llnever spend any money

  47. david

I reckon we was only in contact with Villa about Barry to see when liverpool was going to sign him so wenger could get alonso…

  48. patthegooner

    Guys

I checked it the other Day

Alonso can not play for us at any stage in the CL this season, however he could join Spurs and play for them in the UEFA Cup after their group stage

Likewise Barry could not play for the Spuds at any stage in this seasons UEFA Cup, however he could play for us in the CL after the group stage

The rule only works when moving to a club in the other competition

  49. Pierre

as to the comments about barry and alonso being cup tied, wenger has had 3 months to sign the bastards and has done nothing, we shouldnt even be in this position should we really? its a fkn joke!

  50. kelsey

This Barry saga is getting boring, now i read the deadline date for transfers in England has been moved back one day to midnight 1st.September,but in Holland it remains 31/8/08 and in Italy to 31.8.08 LUNCHTIME. it’s all a load of bollocks.

  51. patthegooner

Anyone else losing faith in us actually signing anyone else.

I can only think that wenger is gambling on getting his target on deadline day for a reduced amount. If so why risk it

IMO he has completely fucked up this summer with Transfers. We should have been done and dusted over a month ago

  52. jlp

    good post
i think AW will buy but none of the listed
he will snag us another forward mid/winger type .
think it was ethangunner who stated we are an attacking side
the gunner motto you may score but we will outscore ya
and Le Boss has up to this point signal any real intent on bulking up the defense ,midfield or backline
i reserve the right to refuse acknowledgment on bitchslap as a serious intent to bulking up
    buyin another attacking player
    ludicrous ….. maybe
    short sighted ……probably
far fetched ……..not with this club

totally agree mate. tho i got a feeling wenger likes to wait to the last second of dead line day to get a cheap deal to be honest. thats what im thinking.

    Arsenal are taking the Mik

    By ANTONY KASTRINAKIS

    Published: 20 Aug 2008

ARSENE WENGER has hijacked Manchester City’s bid to sign Mikael Silvestre.

The Manchester United defender, 31, was undergoing a medical at neighbours City when he got a call telling him Arsenal were interested.

Silvestre immediately abandoned the medical and hurtled down the M1 to meet Gunners boss Wenger and discuss terms.

An Arsenal insider confirmed: “Arsene has been looking for experienced cover for Gael Clichy and he knows all about Mikael.

“Arsene has followed his career with France and at United and the fact he is French is a bonus.”

The France left-back, who joined United from Inter for £4m in 1999, made six appearances at United last season and was granted a free transfer this summer.

City appeared to have pipped Portsmouth to Silvestre and boss Mark Hughes will be devastated to have missed out.

  55. gnarleygeorge9

Now that its a bit quiet on here, well actually its quieter than the flow of Aussie gold in China over the past 24 hours, & thats not good enough, piss poor, & all that…..

    GMR

Apparently you are doing a Mr Wenger & voyouring (Le Grove); maybe just the Post & not the comments section, but anyway hope this gets to you.

Are we going to see you back on here before Arsenal wins silverware (within 6 months), or before Tottenham wins the PL ( in 100years ;) ) ? Which is it going to be? Where are you also Abdenor?

  56. gnarleygeorge9

in the head to head Double winners ’71 had a win over debs dream team west ham. Thats one london derby in the bag

Although, I’d better pull my head in & just take it one week @ a time. There is a long way to go.

  57. ethangunner

The France left-back, who joined United from Inter for £4m in 1999, made six appearances at United last season and was granted a free transfer this summer.

HE IS ON A FREE ?
Oh fuck ! HERE COMES ANOTHER ONE !
as Monty python would say !!!

what happened too Ive got the money BUT i cant let other external players
leap frog my Youth coming thru ?? IT JUST WOULDNT BE FAIR !?

this is just another nail in the coffin of wengers excuse for NO FUCKING MONEY !

or rather ive got money but wont spend it !

wonder what would happen if ribery was on a free also ?
    or Villa ? Kompany ?
    Arshavin ?

i hear there was a guy named flamini on a free too :) ?

Dont you think wenger is totally exposed as a media liar ?
this is a typical cover up .. Im a liar because i dont want to spend money!,money i dont have but ill get anyone on a free … then its ok to go against what i said earlier about NOT STUNTING THE YOUTH !

it seems the rules do not apply if your french (Silvestre)or injured (bitchslap)..
dont worry the list of pre-requisites is growing by the week !

  58. ethangunner

possibly evo , but i remember wenger being interested in him a million years ago .. it wouldn’t surprise me if he wants him as back up defender for clichy

and another free transfer is wengers budget currently …

  59. Seb

ethan, remember Remi Garde, Oleg Luzhny, Davor Suker? Older players signed as cover who made a good contribution to the squad.

Signing an injured player who is 21 or a 31yo defender as cover, is not exactly stunting the youth is it? One of them is a youth, the other is an old head to cover for absentees and to give Phil and Johan another wise head to learn from (if it happens).

If he went out and bought three top class 26yo players to go straight into the first team, then yes he would be going against what he said, not to mention the amounts involved would probably eat up our whole budget. I don’t think signing Bischoff and possibly Silvestre goes against anything he’s said.

Anyway, of course managers lie, they all do, it’s part of the job with the media. Or at least, bend the truth a little.

  60. kingsley

if this is true i would be happy. he would be an excellent squad player. if clichy ever got injured we would be fucked and i personally feel he is a better player than senderos, song and jd. we need experience and he has loads of it. if we get him and then another exerineced cm its happy days.

  61. MorrowsBrokenArm

Silvest will make a great addition to the squad, I just hope this does n’t signal the end of our transfer activity…i was hoping AW was gonna spend some dough on a CM, he said so himself! Silvste for less than a mil, thats good business in my books.

  62. rico01

    Morning All….

So Old Tweety Pye’s enemy could be on his way to us, would that be bad, I dont thinks so – Gibbs is not good enough yet and in any case off out on loan, Traore is not strong enough and I think he will be a LW player – If Clichy gets injured we would be stuffed so this could be good IF its true….

Also, I dont think this is the player AW has promised us, its just a bargin he feels too good to miss, so I for one am not going to worry too much… Within the next six days, we will have our player, and will we know much about him ? NO!!

  63. patthegooner

If we are signing Silvestre as a Squad player I am quite happy with that.

If this is the last signing of the Summer I am extrememely unhappy with it, I pray this is not our one player light that Wenger keeps going on about,

More I hope that he has seen that Silvestre has come available and has taken advantage.

  64. ethangunner

if Silvest comes you can expect 1 or both to get disgruntled and leave ?!

    i would ..

but as a arsenal move im all for it .. no doubt wenger will use him as CD cover also ..

  65. ethangunner

yes but Silvest is only 31 rico ..
he will establish himself and gibbs will come home to find out he’s been evicted .. or traore ..

i just think cover for LB … is silly!!!
gallas can play there ! every buggar can play there ,sagna can even play there ! and eboue for sagna ! .. if he is thinking about defense again instead of a DM ..

then think CD .. gallas can cover, traore can cover .. get a CD and we are more versatile !

  66. Seb

Gibbs can’t fill in at CB, and I doubt whether you or Wenger would want him playing in the big games if gael is out.

  67. patthegooner

So we did not buy Arseshavin as he asked for too much money

Not really fussed either way about it, but I wonder firstly whether this is just agent talk

And I wonder how many other players we have lost out on over the summer due to our wage structure.

  68. Rico01

Fair point ethan, i was thinking that we would be scuppered and with no cover at LB, do you think Traore is strong enough though?

  69. ethangunner

regardless LB is not a worry .. ive never heard any arsenal fan in 3 years saying we need cover there or we are short in that area !

we are short in far more places than that ! in retrospect i would say its covered .. traore or gallas is fine ..
