I think we have our wingers, 4 of them! FANSTASY GROVE!

Nasri can play on either wing and he himself said that, add Vela who likes to dribble around defenders, so maybe with Walcott and Rosicky there as well we have our new wingers. Fast, tricky and played in the right position, could this be why the boss has been quiet on this front?

I know he said he would play Vela up front, but with Bendtner and Robin, Ade not being wanted and Eduardo coming back early, there really isn’t room is there?

Hey I’m beginning to get excited, what we need now is a partner for Cesc, Diaby’s not ready yet so he needs to sign one of Barry, Alonso or Veloso, my money is on Barry using Hoyte as bait which should see him parting with 12 mil, less that O’Neill wants, but the scousers haven’t got it and that way Villa save face.

I would get rid of Ade and bring in one of Villa, Huntelaar, Arshavin or Santa Cruz, I don’t care which one but I don’t want to see Ade anymore, I would sooner go into debt and leave him in the stiffs rather than see the greedy bastard in an Arsenal shirt again, I for one would break my golden rule and boo him.

I have a sneaky feeling he may have earmarked Villa or Arshavin.

So here is my team

Almunia

Sagna Kolo Gallas/Zapata Clichy

Barry/Diaby

Nasri/Walcott Cesc Vela/Rosicky

RVP Bendtner/Villa/Arshavin

I have added Zapata but I know I’m being silly, with that team, we would win the world cup.

Now you can all get excited.

Oh I almost forgot, someone called Flem or Flob left us for Barcelona, so gob, good riddance you wanker, we’ll be a better team without you and may now have the occasional shot, you are even more of a mystery to me than Ade, at least he can score goals.

I remember you making your debut against the chavs in the community cup and I thought oh shit, Wenger bought a dud here, apart from great control, going backwards never did it for me, I spent 3 years thinking your real name was shooooot!

Nice of Pleb to thank Arsenal and his former boss and the fans for standing by him for 3 years where he failed to deliver for the first 2 and only scored 10 goals, most of whic against Reading. Hope Barca look forward to seeing his 3 and a third goals a season. Or in other words, £1M per goal. I’m sure the Barca corowd will show Pleb the same patience…

It feels like I’ve lost fiver and found a monkey.

Morning Grovers – Geoff, your post has bought a big fat smile to my face…..

2/3 players off from being a near perfect squad for the beginning of the season, and I just get the feeling that ‘Arsene Knows’ who he is going to bring in. My bet is that it all gets done this weekend, then the door shuts and pre-season can truely begin…..

Did I tell anyone that I might be getting a AFC shirt signed by ALL the current squad… Well that ‘Might Be’ is getting more like a ‘Probably’ – Cant wait to find out, which should hopefully be today

    Anyone jealous…… ;)

  8. rico01 says:

Oh – and I am not going to waste my energy on the Numpty who has suddenly found his love in life – What a Wanker!!

  9. Geoff

Wenger reportedly chasing Alonso is a masterstroke in my opinion. It leaves us in a win-win situation if we want to sign a central midfielder.

    1) Liverpool desperately need funds to push the Barry deal. Juventus having signed Poulsen, have definitely pulled out of the race. That leaves only one prospective buyer, which means WE are free to dictate terms over the transfer fee.

    2) If Liverpool suddenly decide to pull out of the race for Barry, it leaves us as the only prospective buyers. I don’t think Barry would remain at Villa after all the public tantrums against o’neill. That would mean that a cut-price move to the Emirates maybe on the cards [cash + Hoyte possibly]

    3) Another factor in this whole thing is that O’neill being a man of principles would rather do business with Arsenal than Liverpool given the acrimony between Rafa and O’Neill over the last few days.

I can see this transfer triangle moving in a very interesting alley over the coming days…

  10. Mark C says:

I think we could get Barry on the cheap.

Liverpool were offering Carson to Villa for 10 mill

They sold him to Stoke for 3.5 mill

I am of the opinion that we need another keeper, and at that price we should be in the running.

    Looking forward to the FF

  11. Bud says:

Very jealous………. how about this though…… I have my ticket from May 8th 2002 at Old Trafford (Pedro, do you remember missing the turning on the way up there and having to treck through the dales to get to the Champions Section…… Hazy days indeed ??!!!!), signed by the whole team and Wenger !!!!!!!!!

  12. parlane says:

    good post as always geoff,

yes barry would be a great signing in my opinion , im surprised wenger is going for someone that old , knowing too well his age policies . but id be more surprised if barry actually came to AFC !

I think either way arsene has lined his pockets with 11.7 mil so i expect a master stroke signing within the next 72 hours …

    lets cross fingers ..

pedro 690 must be the new record ?!?!

Typical Arse.com – they’ve still got Hleb listed in the first team squad, the entry beginning “With two years at the Club under his belt, Alexander’s experience will be a vital asset to Arsenal’s young side this season…”

As we all know the PR department at AFc are a bunch of mugs so this about sums them up.

  22. charybdis1966 says:

    The day for what Geoff
    - we loose another midfielder ? We’ve gone 12 hours without losing one so we’re overdue shipping out another midfielder. Arsene knows,.. does he f***

  23. Pedro says:

    Ethan… it certainly is!

We need to be getting a thousand by the end of the year!

That would be amazing considering the comments are all football related and conversational!

    Well played Grovers!

  26. Arsenal4eva says:

    Good riddance…good riddance
Just out of interest, why would we sign Zapata? Wenger has already stated he wont be buying any defenders right?

  27. patthegooner says:

I just hope we get the signings in by the end of the week.

I think you may be right on the Wingers, we should be ok there, especially with Ramsey, Wilshire, Lansbury, Randall and Gibbs in the background

CM is a problem though, and I really hope that Arsene uses the money in that area.

Denilson for me is too light and Diaby is too attacking and to prone to giving the ball away.

Some fall into comparing him with Vieira beacuse they are a similar build, well that does not mean they are similar players. Hey I have a physique close to Phil the Power Taylor….Does not mean I am any good at darts.

Arsene Wenger MP is apparently blessed with knowing his replacement before he sells a player. Well Gilberto should be confirmed off today, Diarra and Flamini have already gone, so come on please get that replacement in before we really get into the bones of pre-season.

Oh and Arsene I repeat a comment I pasted on here last night. We are comfortable with you selling Gilberto and Hleb BUT only if you replace them

    Oh and Arsene

Definition of Replacement: the act of furnishing an equivalent person or thing in the place of another

Not the act of furnishing a non-equivalent or prepubescent footballer in the place of an experienced one

  28. ethangunner says:

    parlane

didnt i say something about getting to the sale late ??
read below .. like a said it seems wenger is short on options ..

Wenger is still unconvinced that Gareth Barry is value for money at the £18m asking price at Aston Villa,’ reports The Independent. With his move to Liverpool on hold, perhaps permanently so unless Pool can find a buyer for Xabi Alonso, it is Wenger’s decision to make.

‘The club believe that the England midfielder could be persuaded to come to London,’ claims the newspaper – an assertion that is no doubt correct given that Barry’s bridges are burnt at Villa and Liverpool have apparently turned their attention to alternative transfer targets.

While, Barry aside, ‘Wenger does not feel that the range of options open to him for filling the holding midfield place are up to scratch’, at least he has the consolation of possessing money to spend. Gilberto’s exit will signal a significant reduction from the Gunners’ wage bill and Hleb’s departure will raise around £12m. That, too, could be interpreted as good business.

Morning Guys . I know we are all pissed of with Ade but I don,t think he will go at all . I think the whole thing is crap . I f his agent is trying to get him a better deal he probably said , what you doing saying that when im trying to get you a better deal etc .then he comes out with the other stuff . make s sense to me .
being not the brightest , will do what the agent says . so maybe as we don,t really know , I won,t be that quick to boo him if he stays .

  31. ethangunner says:

    No Gunners transfer for Falcao
    Thursday 17 Jul 2008

River Plate striker Radamel Falcao has ruled out a move to Arsenal less than a week after claiming he was set to move to the Gunners in an £8million deal.

The 22-year-old Colombia international now insists his future lies in Argentina after finding the net 19 times in 35 starts in all competitions and helping River Plate finish as champions of the Argentine Clausura 08.

  32. Pedro says:

    Well played Gooner07!

I am not a huge fan of Barry… his role is to slow things down… we don’t play like that.

I’d prefer someone in the Essien/Gattuso mould… Still, beggars can’t be choosers and I’d take anyone who was half decent because Denilson wont cut it next year.

  33. The Lurker says:

Since returning from the African Nations Cup, Kolo’s form dipped significantly and Gallas wasn’t at his imperious best either. Given that neither are particularly big for centre backs I would have thought that paying £15 – £18mil for a big fast centre back (you mentioned Zapata) and perhaps moving Kolo to defensive midfield would be a reasonable alternative to spending the equivalent on Alonso or Barry. Don’t get me wrong either of those two would grace the first eleven, but if Toure and Gallas play like they did in the later half of last season then we are still going to be shipping more goals than a EPL contender should.

  34. patthegooner says:

just watched the vela interview on arsenal.com, he sounds like a real good kid… great attidtude etc…. ‘i wanna be here for many many years’, ‘ill play wherver mr wenger wants’…. carlos vela… our new CB

  36. Pierre says:

Wenger says of Hleb “We are comfortable with our decision to let him go and we are all looking forward to continuing our preparations for the new season ahead.”

that means, glad he’s gone, now lets purchase a decent replacement!

  37. charybdis1966 says:

ArsenalTom, Vela as acentre back ? I know Wenger likes to play people out of position, but that’s taking the pi** !

  38. kenyan gooner says:

i feel that we are weaker than last season.

  39. Geoff says:

Yeah fuck off Arse-shavin, Chary, the day we sign some players!

  40. Geoff says:

We are at the moment Kenyan but wait a minute, it’s up for grabs!

  41. GMR says:

Have none of you realised yet that Wenger’s plan is to win the league without spending money. He isn’t going to sign anyone else unless Ade leaves (sorry I’ll correct that, Bischoff will join but he’s on a free). Forget Villa, Huntelaar, Barry, Arshavin, Zapata etc, he won’t entertain going into the season having made a loss in the transfer market.

We lost Flamini on a free so we’ll sign Bischoff on a free. We sold Hleb for 11.9 million & we bought Nasri for the same price!! Gilberto will go & the million we get for him will cover the cost of that 15 year old dutch/turkish kid we signed.

Arsenal have money but Wenger is determined not to spend any each year. He will from now until the day he leaves only spend what he can make in sales & I’m totally convinced that he won’t change that strategy through fear of being labelled a failure. How the likes of Mourinho would laugh at him should he spend money & win the league after slating them for doing that exact same thing. His ego wouldn’t allow him to spend.

Take your pick guys, the club either continue with Arsene & we follow this route until the day he leaves regardless of success, or they get rid & get a manager who wants to compete in the transfer market. The money is available he just won’t spend it!!

Don’t take my word for it, just go look at the facts. He was happy to spend before Abramovich arrived, but since he has said on numerous occasions about clubs spending money. How many summers is it in a row that we’ve either made a profit or broken even?? Four or five would be my guess!!

  42. charybdis1966 says:

Yeah I kinda knew that Geoff – I was only using it as an excuse for a mini-rant. Following the shenanigans around the Arse lately has made me apt to rant and rave more than usual.

  43. Pedro says:

Jeez GMR, way to piss on our parade… :-(

I think he will spend, but just in a frugal manner!

We’ve been out spent by Bolton this summer!

  44. kenyan gooner says:

this should be the last season for wenger if he fails to deliver us a trophy.he must or else follow Grant.

  45. ikon says:

    Arsenal Tom
that is what ade said before end of last season….
I am holding no hopes on anyone staying here for life… just that a good team is out there with tha same level of commitments with one less mistake and we will be champs.

Arshavin is clearly a barca fan and better not bring him here with that attitude. Next thing you know UCL quaters against barca… rosicky “does it again” and arshavin is forced to play against his favorite team.

I hope we get zapata…. absolutely in underground that fella is.. no news of him since ages. Also I feel Alonso isnt the best man for the CDM job … he is not a tough tackler… yes barry slows game down but thts wat he is suppossed to do when opp has the ball!!!! we have enough creativity… dont need it in that position… flamini was creative?? no he wasn’t

  46. Gooner07 says:

I have a sneeky feeling that Wenger would go for Abd Rabo, who is a superb defensive midfielder, and better than Barry in defensive as well as offensive qualities.

  47. stevie says:

Morning Grovers! Well today Im looking at things more positively! After seeing the squad for Saturdays game with Barnet I was really impressed. Such a young selection of players but at the same time the quality there is top notch – gona look forward to watching it on arsenal tv…..

Also I have just spoken to a few colleagues (southern Scousers) that watched the liverpool friendly lastnight. They say they played awful (Vorinin upfront!) & a lot of the youngsters that were given a chance were not up to scratch. Ok yes they had a lot of first team players missing but when I compare that to what youth we have, our future looks much more fruitational!

I have a feeling we will only sign one more player now in the more defensive midfielder mold. Someone with a Vieira esque presence hmmm

  48. GMR says:

Pedro, yeah I’m sure I’ll get stick for being negative but then if I want to do all this positive crap & ignore tha facts I’ll go to ACLF & Arsenalanalysis etc.

We’ve been outspent by nearly every premier league club each year. We’re just extremely lucky that the best players don’t want to go to places like Birmingham & Sunderland & that the managers of those clubs just aren’t good enough. I’d really fear for us if David Moyes had money to spend!!

  49. Arsenal Tom says:

DDM…. me 2 mate… my dad sold his wife some fitted wardrobes a year or 2 ago and she offered to get a shirt signed by the great man!!

‘to tom all the best’ with the great mans sig and number… frammed and on the wall right next big tone’s signed goal celebration i got as my avatar!!

  50. Pedro says:

    33 in the fantasy league!

Stevie, do you have the link to the squad… or can you paste it up for all to view!

  51. Bud says:

  52. finestcuts says:

Hleb = case closed, I am meeting my friend on Saturday who can help me to translate the article, but should I bother? I wouldn’t be doing this just for myself, I’d also be doing it for the benefit of those who are interested in what the Russsian article said, so if you are interested, please state so, otherwise I’ll abandon the project.
We need closure on the Adebayor issue, the sooner the better.
Ronaldo looks set to stay, if he does he won’t be in my team. Manchester United have probably hinted to Ronaldo that if he causes them a problem, that they’re also capable of causing him problems, I still think he’ll play well but if in his mind he is trapped his heart won’t be in it anymore so his performance will dip, by how much it’s hard to tell.
Manyoo can’t rely on FIFA’s assistance in the matter since Blatter wants to be seen as bigger than Manyoo.
Our prodigal son Adebayor is exocected to stay, but how long for, he burnt his bridge before he got to the other side, we all await the resolution to his persistent acts of insubordination, perhaps some repentance and a show of respect towards the initial agreement he made with the club could earn him some support and forgiveness.

Can you imagine negotiating a price for a journey in a cab and then half way into the journey the driver demands more to finish the job off, and gives you various reasons to try to justify his demands?

  55. GMR says:

I think arsenal should renegotiate Ade’s contract downwards!! Tell him we think we’re paying the cnut too much money & tell him no decent club wants him, the ungrateful moron!!

  56. Pierre says:

ca va bouger is me :P

  57. Pedro says:

I have no idea whose team that is Finest!

    We’re stuck with Ade.

If no one wants him, we can’t do anything… I hope he is really embarrassed by this whole situation.

I am cringing at the thought of seeing him in an Arsenal shirt again.

  58. MorrowsBrokenArm says:

Agree, Ade aint going anywhere…….what are the odds he stays, scores first goal of the season, or a goal in a big game and then goes running up to the fans kissing the shirt.

Do you think with the number of coins thrown at him we’d have the money for Barry.

  59. bark says:

There’s no way we’ll sign Alsonso or Barry so I don’t know why you’re suggesting it.
Who knows f Diaby is ready? I’ll bet noone thought Flamini was ready last season (myself included).
Zapata would be awesome but expect Wenger to wait so as to force his price down.
Ane Ade won’t go becasue a.) Wenger really rates him and b.) Noone wants him.
Santa Cruz is NOT good enough to play for Arsenal and always gets injured so no. Huntelaar is a great finisher but has no pace and is quite similair to Eduardo really so no.
Villa would be great but would cost a fortune so forget it.
Arsharvin looks the most likely with Barca signing Hleb but not unless Zenit drop their price. Which they’ll have to unless Chelsea sign him (I bet they will). He’s not a replacement for Ade though.

  66. Pedro says:

I think he is worried he might get addicted to it… Golf, Beer, Blogging, Arsenal… fantasy football might push Mrs Geoff over the edge!

  67. MorrowsBrokenArm says:

    Pierre;

Its been confirmed that only Milan made an enquiry, don’t think Barca have ever made an official bid yet.

  69. chris says:

MBA, i am with you on the diaby call, next season is going to be make or break perhaps, but i do think he has the potential

  70. skaajon says:

    Hi.
Have been reading this blog and the comments for a while, but never posted until now.
Always good blogs and interesting discusions.
I realy hope we buy a DM as I can’t see the ones we have are good enough. Diaby and Denilson also spent most of last season injured and may be injured again… Song and Djourou could probably fill inn, but we can’t win the league or CL with them. We proably get Bischoff(?) or some french dude.
Hoping wenger changes his mind and sign a defender now that Song is going to the Olympics…

  71. MorrowsBrokenArm says:

The 15mil + Eto story originated in the daily star….don’t think that was ever a goer.

  72. Pierre says:

we really are going to get lumbered with the mug, and Wenger will play him cos he rates him highly, he’ in for an interesting reception come the west brom game….

  73. Arsenal Tom says:

peirre… there was no official bid not even from milan… they just asked about him… poor old ade

  74. finestcuts says:

Good to hear that Pedro, we can’t have a fantasy Le Grove league without Geoff.
Fantasy football only requires attention once or twice a week Mrs. Geoff can rest assured!

  75. MorrowsBrokenArm says:

Can’t wait to hear the reception Ade gets….if he scores do you think we’ll hear any cheers??? Seems wrong not to applaud one of our boys….but Ade burnt the wrong bridge this summer. Think he over estimated his “greatness”

  76. charybdis1966 says:

MBa, for me I think Diaby is not up to it, he usually looses posession, overruns the ball or fades in the final 220 minutes of the game. Add to that his poor disciplinary record and being prone to injury (is he a Rosicky in the making?) even taking inot account the horror tackle from the Mackem mug.

I’d love to be proved wrong on this, but I think I won’t be and our midfiled will look dangerously thin this season.

  77. charybdis1966 says:

*final 20 minutes of a game*

  78. Pedro says:

    I’ll get him on it!

He’ll be excited… he’ll have more money than Wenger to spend!

We’re up to about 35 now!

It’s going to be quite competitive this year I think!

Is there a limit on subs?

I can see that point, but i just cant remember a time where he has had a continued run out in his natural position. I’m ready to give him a crack, also think he can get us a couple of goals. Are e going to win the league with a Diaby/Cesc partership?mmmmm not so sure…..think Barry/Cesc sounds class.

  82. Pierre says:

I reckon Plab thinks he’s the replacement for Ronaldinho!

CB, CM – needed, If Ade stays we will be fine up front as long as he doesnt sulk!!

Still like to see him replaced though

  85. Geoff says:

Sorry guys fantasy football is way too complicated for me, if I picked a team it would be all Arsenal players, it’s hard enough picking a team for Wenger!

  86. skaajon says:

I think Diaby could come good, but as I said before I don’t think he can stay injury free for a season. Denilson I see more as a replacement for fabregas when he needs a rest.
Now that Hleb is finaly gone I would like to se Rosicky in the Hleb role behind the striker when we play 4-5-1.

does anyone know how the Catalans feel about this signing…can’t imagine them getting over excited about a shaggy look a like. Did they turn up at Camp Nou in their thousands to welcome him? (They may well have, but i can’t see it). Hleb got away with missing shot after shot with us, because he mixed it up with some tricky wing play and lets face it….we seem to be better at accepting league faliure than these Barca fans do….he doesn’t bang a few goals in the Catalans will be all over him.

If he thought Highgate was too chaotic, i can’t wait to see how he finds spain when he has 120,000 Catalans sceaming for his head because they’ve been used to likes of Eto, Ronnie, Messi, and the rest.

  91. Pedro says:

    Geoff, the people demand!

I’ll show you at the weekend… It’s easy and will only take 10 minutes to set up!

  93. Pedro says:

I want to watch the open on my computer?

Does anyone know where the BBC are playing it… I thought it was online this year?

  94. Geoff says:

OK Finest and Pedro, you’ve shamed me I’ll do it, but only if I can win.

I saw the clip niraj, what a picture! didn’t Henry leave Arsenal to get away from Hleb? It seems like Barca are trying to build a new Arsenal from all our past it players.

Van Bronckhorst, Overmars, Petit, Silvinhio, Henry and now the worst of the lot Hleb? how many more for a team?

I reckon that has to be a record of one team buying from another, don’t you? OK so West Ham come second!

  95. Geoff says:

Try http://www.pgaeuropeantour.com Pedro, it may be on that.

  96. Geoff says:

I’m off for a while, catch you all later.

  97. finestcuts says:

Ok, I will donate towards the prize fund…….as well as a crate of Peroni there is an Arsenal Cap on offer, the winner can choose the colour, that’s got to be worth having a go for!

  98. Pedro says:

    Nice one Finest!

  99. finestcuts says:

The stakes have been raised Geoff, it’s worth your while! Good to see you on board!

NO WAY….Bif Tone no.3 all time greatest…..that’ll be DB at no1. then, which I’ve no complaints with, love Db…..but i think Tony shouldv’e had it, he’s arsenal through and through.

  101. hughsie says:

A week after whining to the media about how he disagree’d with the Arsene and was forced to play out of position at Arsenal in his first media conference at Barcelona he comes out with gems like ‘im willing to play in any position the coach wants me to play’.

    Thanks for nothing you ingrate.

  102. MorrowsBrokenArm says:

that Big Tone by the way

  103. charybdis1966 says:

  104. MorrowsBrokenArm says:

someone on here had an intersting thought yesterday on here….Kolo in CM????? just think about it, may not be as ridiculous as it sounds. The way AW plays players out of position surprised he aint tried it.

  105. Arsenal Tom says:

finest… u wanna save a load of hassle and ill e-mail u my address???

  106. mjc says:

My guess is that we’ve ALREADY signed Zapata in principle.
But then he got his faced caved in playing for Columbia, and we need to ensure his fitness before finalising.
Would fit in with the timing of Wenger’s “I am NO LONGER looking for a defender” quote.

  107. finestcuts says:

Arsenal Tom, management organised the competition, management will distribute the prize, I’ll either wire the funds for the cap over or meet them at the Stadium to give them the cap, so there won’t be any hassle Arsenal Tom. How management choose to pass the prize on is a decision for them to make, i suggest either at the Emirates or by post.

  108. Arsenal Tom says:

hope so MJC… we did apparentely have a bid rejected as well (around 10 mil i think)

so whos gonna replace hleb?? dont say nasri

  109. Pedro says:

Arsenal Tom… we don’t have a prize for last place?

  110. charybdis1966 says:

MBA, in Toure’s case it would be where Wenger returns a player to his original position as you probably know Kolo was bought as a midfielder.

  111. rico01 says:

Well I am going to win and I will require a Juniors cap please!!! ;)

  112. Bud says:

Right – I’m gonna take this competition to the next level now…..

The winner will also recieve the now world famous ORIGINAL “I love Le-Grove” poster, held by none other than the great Ray Parlour and hopefully many more on Saturday at Barnet !!!!!

  113. Arsenal Tom says:

very formal mr finest!!!! how many people in the league now?

  114. merse-10 says:

I wouldn’t be overly surprised if Arsene uses Djourou in the holding midfield role. Diaby has the ability to become a fantastic footballer but i question his attitude. At times last season and in one match in partcular he looked like he didn’t give a toss.

We wont by Asharvin becuase he is over priced and we do not ned him. He’s 27, so where has he been for he last 5 years? It’s only becuase of the UEFA Cup run and the Euro’s that he has come to everyones attention. Surely if he was so good he would be plying his trade at a better club already?

Rosicky (if ever fit) could be used in a roaming role like he has for The Czechs. Our squad, although young, is strong and we have players who WANT to play. I’d rather have a 17/18/19/20/21 year old chomping at the bit than a 25/26/27 year old who doesn’t want to be at the clu becuase he’s got too big for his boots.

Our back 4 is strong. Clichy, Toure, Gallas, Sagna is as good as anything. Toure and Gallas mae a good partnership but Toure came back from the African Nations and seemed to have forgot who he was. Clichy and Sagnanare the best full backs in the Prem.

Barry would be a good addition to our squad. Being left-footed he compliments Cesc just as Petit did with Vieira. Good on the ball and excellent range of passing he is a efinate Arsene type of player. The price tag is hefty but 27 is not old for a player of Barrys type. Not blessed with blistering pace he could play thatmidfield role for the next 6 years without a problem. I doubt he’ll sign but who knows? Arsene Knows.

I’m excited about the season and if RvP11 can stay fit then we’ll be there or thereabouts. I have no doubts that had we had him or EDS9 in the final months of the season we would have been Champions.

Ade can go. I know he had a good season but we create so many chances that i’m confident we can find another 20-25 goals a season striker . If Ade thinks he’s worth £120,000 a week then he can go to Barca (no dream move to AC anymore Ade!) where he’ll find out.

In Arsene we trust. To continue to do what he has done and keep us competitive while 75% of the Prem spend more is incredible. We have some money but we have constraints and Arsene wants hungry footballers (i’m not talking about Lampard) and i believe we have a squad that want to prove something.

    Exciting times

  115. MorrowsBrokenArm says:

guess it don’t matter anyway, its not going to happen. Seems like ages ago when Kolo joined….i didn’t think much of him his first couple of seasons, but he’s shown how a player can come on leaps and bounds……..so anythings possible with likes of Diaby, Vela and the rest. If we buy a CD and CM and scott Carson I’ll be feeling great about coming season!

  116. charybdis1966 says:

According to MARCA, the Adebayor dialogue betwen Barcelona and AFc appear “broken” and Catalna are turning their attention to the Spudz Berbatov. now that’s going to make me smile.

  117. MorrowsBrokenArm says:

    Merse;

still not as sure about our defence mate, Toure/Gallas does not inspire confidence in me….and a defence needs to be more than just 4 players….what happens if these guys get injured?

Pedro, yeah I’m sure I’ll get stick for being negative but then if I want to do all this positive crap & ignore tha facts I’ll go to ACLF & Arsenalanalysis etc.

Well done son ! i agree , put on your floral pants and go hug a fuckin tree whilst your there !!
All hippies ! Its far better to deal with the facts .. you know what pissing into the wind
    gets you ??

    WET !

The facts are we lost diarra -bert-jens-flamini-hleb-(ade?) and needed 2 or 3 at the seasons end .. vela nasri -ramsays kitchen joined us ! so theres your 2 or 3 needed ..

NOW we need 5 EXPERIENCED PLAYERS to replace the EXPERIENCED ones gone this season !
ive go more chance sawing off my own nuts with a rusty hack saw than getting 5 /6 experienced players join AFC in the next 6 weeks !

Dont start believing we will do great things when our oldest player will be alumina
who spent 9/10ths of his life on the bench ! and no defensive coach !
We are light on ! and the 1 or 2 signings wenger will make this transfer window (mark my words) wont even break us close too even !

I agree with you GMR , i dont think we will be in for anything this season other than a good hiding !

Think with your heads and not with your hearts ! because screaming blue murder now might get us heard ! We have rolled over for too many seasons now !!
now is the time to fight for our club ! to rattle the cage !!!

It seems our players are leaving faster than we can replace them ..
and wot do we do ??? replace them with potential ,a potential that might not materialize

FACTS based on previous seasons , dont talk about hope !
its a 4 year old story that has had the same ending for every year ive heard it !

  136. Hughsie says:

Apparently Eto’o is going to play for some Uzbek team in the Asian champions league. They’re going to pay him some super mega deal to play there for six months or something. Probably a joke, but they’re running it on the front page of Goal.com.

  137. Arsenal Tom says:

I agree with you GMR , i dont think we will be in for anything this season

i agree with u 2 fella’s talk of us winning the league is rediculous at the moment

  138. Gooner07 says:

Hi, Barca’s vice pres has made it clear that a decision to buy another CF depends on Eto’o. He has made it clear that they wouldn’t start with 4 CFs (henry, bojan, Eto’o, ‘X’). So it all depends on Eto’o departure. I’d take him over Ade anyday.

  139. patthegooner says:

    patthegooner,

They’ve always done that for our ex-players. But I think they should reserve it only for the great players, not the ones who haven’t achieved much for the club than mediocrity. for eg, fcbarcelona.cat HAD to thank Ronaldinho, because he was some player for their club.

  143. patthegooner says:

    Agreed Gooner07

They better do it for Gilberto

  144. gunnerfever says:

    THE UZBEKS CLINCH ETO SIGNING.

he transfer is reported to make Eto’o one of the highest earning players in the world if he accepts and his arrival in Uzbekistan has pushed the deal even closer.

“He is is Tashkent and will sign a contract tomorrow,” the Kuruchi official said. “He will sign for three or six month, we will have to see about that.

“It is a big signing in the world of football and, of course, for all people in Uzbekistan. He will play in the Asian Champions League and then we will see.

  145. Pedro says:

49 people in the Fantasy league! That is way more than I expected!

Give me Eto’o for Ade any day of the week.

A hungry Eto’o would be brilliant. He will want to make Barca look fools for laying him off.

I have a feeling that wont happen though… surely barca can see Sammys quality?

Someone mentioned a replacement for Hleb earlier?

How about Gibbs? They play a similar style… or Lansbury? If he plays like Cesc and Cesc can play out wide… why the hell not!

  146. charybdis1966 says:

Arrgghh, DB10 is number 2 in all time AFC players according to Arse.com.

I said this would be the case yesterday, with TH14 number 1.

  147. skaajon says:

    bergkamp nr 2 on arsenal.com

  148. Gooner07 says:

yes, I’d place him over henry. But we have to give to Titi, because he deserves to be placed that high for his importance. Let’s not forget how he kept scoring, and giving assits for season after season. ICeman had been more inconsistent, and if Henry couldn’t impress in some of the big game, Dennis is a bigger disappointment. Although the fear of flying has been a big disadvantage, so much more magic wasted in his years at our club.

  149. Pedro says:

Agreed Chary… Bergkamp kicked off the revolution… we owe him a lot.

  150. Arsenal Tom says:

thats a shame dennis should be no.1, tone 2 and henry 3

  151. ethangunner says:

  172. rico01 says:

pat – i saw that and had to look twice, would have been nice to get that amount, he is worth it just for his professional attitude

  173. Pedro says:

I thought they paid a million for him?

If we got £7.8mil that is good business and a fair price for a good player.

  174. Spanish Fry says:

I don’t know if anyone mentioned it, but Wenger has already said that Vela will not be playing on the wing. He says he will play up front in a conventional role.

Despite that, I think our attacking options are now good enough.

  175. charybdis1966 says:

Spanish Fry, i beg to differ, our options upfront for the start of the season are short(and I don’t mean Mandingo Aloysius).

Neither Vela or Nasri will be expected by the manager to have starting places as he always expects a 6month settling in time for non prmeier league transfers.

That leaves only RvP an dAdebayor up front, with Theo possibly palying a support striker role.

The first of these is injury prone, the second may not be here and if he is he’ll be sulky for a while and the third doesn’t have much experience playing as an out and out striker.

so we start the season light up front as well as in midfield.

  176. abnet says:

what about the wing Spanish Fry that was our weeknes last term

  177. Pedro says:

Spanish, did you get my e-mail last week?

I think he might be forced into pushing Vela out wide. If Rosicky and Nasri can stay fit, I suppose it wont matter.

What do people think about sticking RvP out wide?

  178. michael says:

Just jouned the fantasy league. Since I’m rubbish I’m going for the last place and picked my team accordingly. It kept saying I had too many newcastle players! I’ve picked Eboue is that bad? Come on Kintama fc

  179. Mark C says:

We could play with a forward line of 3.

There is no hard rule to say players need 6 months to break into the team if they come from abroad.

    Sagna, walked in.

  180. Bud says:

Wenger said the same about Walcott. “He is a centre forward”

All that allows him to do is only use him as a bit player/wing cover whilst he gets used to the premiership and if he finds it tough, it can take the pressure of the kid as its not his “quote” position !

Carlos Vela has set his sights on winning the Premier League title in his first season at Arsenal.

The Mexican has been on Arsenal’s books for three years, but they were forced to farm him out on loan due to work permit issues.

The 19-year-old flourished in Spain and Gunners chief Arsene Wenger brought him back to North London as soon as he was given the green light by the home office.

Arsenal have come up short in recent seasons, but the green shoots of recovery were in evidence last term and Vela is keen to take the club back to the summit.

”I believe that this team can do very well and I think that we can compete for the title,” said Vela.

”I am hopeful that when this season is over we can look back and be satisfied with what we achieve.”

    From Arsenalinsider……………………………………

Good Morning Insiders, and the fast moving transfer of Gilberto for £7.9 million to Greek giants Panathiniakos and Hleb for £12 million rising to 15 million to Barcelona has yielded enough money to spend £18 million on Gareth Barry of Aston Villa.

Alexander Hleb kissed his Barcelona badge at least three times in the TV footage that I have seen. That is an insult to the many fans of this club, in that I never saw him kiss our badge as much as once. I hate the act of kissing the badge, because whereas with some players like Cesc Fabregas, you know that he loves the club, with players like Adebayor, there are clearly mercenary priorities such as money that exceed club loyalty.

  193. choy says:

pierre.. nothing less than a hatrick against the spuds!!!! at 3 point lane!!!

  194. Pierre says:

you get the point, he’s a numpty, his agent has pulled his strings and he’s too thick to realise what he is saying, those 2 interviews 1 after the other “im staying at arsenal” “I dont know where i will be next season” proved that, but he’s good for arsenal and arsenal has been very good to him. I just think he’s staying and we may as well get used to the idea of having him in the team next year. Course I’d love to be proved wrong. And yes, he does love to score against the spud scum!

  195. Spike says:

    Spanish Fry,

    Concerning Vela.

Ok Wenger said is a center fwd like Eduardo.

But on the other hand, that hasn’t stop him playing Eddy on the left of a 5-man midfield.

For me, if he did it for Eddy, he’ll do it for Vela knowing that he played all last year in that position.

    A la Walcott.

  196. ArsenalKenya says:

    http://www.arsenalinsider.co.uk/arsenal-news/i-hate-badge-kissers-and-its-gareth-barry-or-miguel-veloso/

    This is a good analysis.

What might worry me is the number of injuries either player mentioned might sustain if we buy and rely on them. Song?Denilson should step up now. Diaby can suit the role but likes moving forward……

Anyway it’s up to Wenger/ PHW / Friar to decide…………….

  197. choy says:

wenger and his idea of putting players out of position!!!
    aghh!!!

  198. Pierre says:

looks like there was a fee of E7.9m (£5m) for Bert, which arsenal waived in order for Bert to recieve a better wage offer instead.

  199. choy says:

that was very nice pierre.. the least that good old bert deserved.. now he is the highest paid in the greek league!!!

  200. maqitlarge says:

    http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_3829695,00.html

Could Frings be getting better? (sorry)

Nice stop gap for a seaon or two though

  201. Arsenal Tom says:

theo will be on the wing again next season wenger already said that

vela is being so built up its unfair on the kid

  202. choy says:

no way wenger is going to let a 32 yr old go and get a 31yr old in!!

  203. patthegooner says:

We cant be that skint then if we are waivering Transfer fees so players can get more money

  204. maqitlarge says:

Just had another look at my fantasy team. There are no Sp*rs, Manure or Chav players in there. I challenge everyone else to do the same!

  205. chris says:

maqitlarge, opps, i have a chav and a spud!

  206. charybdis1966 says:

Mark C, I wasn’t saying the 6 month rule was mine, it was a quote of Wengers and Sagna was known as an accomplished player befor he joined us – I believe Auxerre’s player of season in 2007/08.

  207. maqitlarge says:

Choy – Gilberto ran his course with the Arsenal I think. I would have kept him but Wenger likes to “reward” loyal players by (under)selling them to a team where they will play regularly.

So of course we won’t get Frings! That would be a pragmatic approach. It’s idealology all the way for us, friends!

  208. charybdis1966 says:

sorry , I meant 2006/07 as he joined us the folowing season.

  209. maqitlarge says:

See if you can change it Chris. Otherwise I’ll request you’re docked 200 points :-)

  210. Arsenal Tom says:

you can do as many changes before the season starts as u want on the fantasy footy lads.

frings would be very good for us but itll never happen

  211. Pierre says:

wenger mantioned liking frings during the euros, i never took it seriously though cos of his age. we could do worse than get him cheap to fill the gap for a year or 2.

  212. Pierre says:

mantioned liking frings! I sound like that undercover french copper talking english on allo allo!

  213. Arsenaldo says:

Gimme a break- just read about Etoo landed in Uzbekistan to finalize his move. So it wasnt all rubbish talks after all. I wont believe even if I see it. Etoo in some uzbeks team shirt……….where is this world goin

  214. Pierre says:

wayne rooney = the fallen madonna with the big boobies :P

  215. chris says:

no no dont dock points i have never done FF before and i dont want to be teh hull of this league!

  216. chris says:

    pierre, lol

  217. GMR says:

Why is the Arsenal masters team always so s***!!

The line-up this year:- Vince Bartram – Ray Parlour – Andy Linighan – Scott Marshall – Danny O’Shea – Eddie McGoldrick – Chris Kiwomya – TBC – Matt Joseph.

We always end up getting humiliated by the spuds!

  218. Pierre says:

if eto’o is going to uzcek they must be getting him for nothing and paying him fuck all, why dont we jump on him, worth a punt and then we could stick ade-nuff in the stiffs?

  219. Arsenaldo says:

As DDM said I loved the shooooooooot name of hlub Geoff! You rock!

  220. Pedro says:

What’s going on? Docked points for what?

  221. Arsenal Tom says:

if we let gilberto go on a free so he can get more money then theres somthing seriously wrong with our club.
he did allot for us and was a perfect professional but he was paid god-knows how much money to do that!!! wenger says his cheque book isnt big enough at the euros then we hear this kind of bollocks!! behaving ‘professionally’ shouldnt be somthing we are all amazed by its the least we should expect when they get 50k a week!!!

  222. Arsenaldo says:

Pierre doubt it Barca will give player 4 free , leave alone 25mil player like Etoo. They might be stupid to buy Hlab and want to buy Ade ,but not That stupid. UNless the government of Uzbek pays for him as a part of a popularization campain or some touristic reasons…

  223. patthegooner says:

Does anyone else feel that Arsene Wenger MP should really be doing some form of interview somewhere to give us an update officially on WTF is going on.

  224. maqitlarge says:

Pedro – docked points for including Spud, Manure or Chav players in your fantasy team.
I’m proposing that be the principle of the league.

  225. chris says:

for picking a spud and a chav in my ff team

  226. Pierre says:

re Bert, i think PHW & co are glad to get him off the wage bill….ditto Pleb.

  227. Arsenal Tom says:

absolutely pat!! all we hear is fiszman and hill-wood talking non-sense

    arsenaldo… its a lone deal i think

  228. GMR says:

No matter how many top class players leave our wage bill mysteriously rises every year!! Not that I’d suggest anything’s going on of course!!

  229. choy says:

why the fuck is eto going there?!!!!

    career suicide!!!

  230. charybdis1966 says:

Well Pathe Gooner, you’d a thought he would give us some info but AFC treat us like a bunch of mugs and a large portion of disdain.

  231. Pierre says:

Arsenaldo, I can’t believe Eto’o is going to Uzbec, how could they afford the fee and the wages? Surely not, I was saying only way that could happen is if he’s going for cheap. I really don’t know where this story is from.

Barca said a few weeks ago that Goofy, Deco and Eto’o were expendable, 2 have gone, and the third…..?

Eto’o 13 would look good on the new Arsenal Shirt.

  232. Arsenal Tom says:

    choy… £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££

  233. Arsenaldo says:

You r right Tom. We R too good with our players. We should be mild only with our legends who wants to leave, like Henry. We let him go for less money so he can have nice 4 year contract , as well as Sol, who left for free. But then he fucked us up and signed for PRL club , which wasnt part of the deal. So my point is that very few of our wantaway players deserve such gestures.

  234. Arsenaldo says:

well its on eurosport with a picture-I couldnt post the link for some reason.
MOney is money but if I was him I would ensure my legs for 30 mil before I go

  235. Arsenal Tom says:

at the end of the day we owe these players nothing… they r paid very well to do a job, at a great club, great conditions and in one of the greatest cities in the world and lately plenty of them have dicked on us.

fair enough bert didnt but 2mil is still 2mil!!

  236. Arsenaldo says:

agree-1-2mil is nothing . he is just 31, not 36

  237. choy says:

AT.. we could have had 3 youngsters on the payroll !!!!

  238. Arsenal Tom says:

exactely choy!!!! u tell wenger that and no fucker will be leaving for free!!! lol

  239. charybdis1966 says:

Arsenal.Tom, LOL “lone” deal – does that mean it’s the only one ?

  240. choy says:

    i think he meant loan!

  241. Arsenal Tom says:

yeah chary… u cant sign play for 2 clubs at the same time mate (nice cover huh?)

  242. Arsenaldo says:

    or loved one…

  243. Arsenal Tom says:

‘sign play’… what the fuck!!!… this is your fault wenger… go sign somone!!!

  244. Arsenaldo says:

    or -league of nerdy extraordinaries…lol

  245. charybdis1966 says:

You’re right Arsenal.Tom – it’s about time the MP for N5 got this finger out and did something about his rapidly disappearing first team squad.

Maybe he’s on holiday from all that commentating he had to do at the Euro’s ?

  246. Arsenal Tom says:

yeah must have been hard doing 2 hours work a night…

all those lie-ins, then sitting around all day chilling out, then having to be paid to watch and talk about a game of football!!! cant think of anything worse!! poor bloke!

anyone got tickets for the real premier european cup competiton…… the emirates cup?

  247. Arsenaldo says:

    who didnt I would ask?:))

  248. Bud says:

    I’m in !!!

Just done my FFT and it is TASTY !!!!!!!!

  249. Pedro says:

I hope there were no spuds in there bud?

    Tempting as Gareth Bale is…

  250. rico01 says:

The Mighty Ray Parlour has come out and said – ‘Get Barry’, he reckons he is the man to gel with Cesc – Well if Ray says it, thats good enough is it not??

  251. choy says:

    what is fft bud?

  252. rico01 says:

Pedro – I have no Spuds, but Chavs and a couple of Pompey players….

Is there a facility to view others teams for a giggle – and who does everyone have as their keeper, I have Green…. Would have had Almunia but couldnt sacrifice an outfield player of ours………

  253. GMR says:

    Choy, fantasy football team

  254. Pedro says:

    GMR are you in?

    Rico… I went with Friedel!

  255. Arsenaldo says:

I will wait to the last possible moment to see all the late transfers:)

  256. GMR says:

    Pedro, of course I’m in!!

I see the sites old mate Goofle is in as well. Strange that a guy who supposedly hates this site wants to join its fantasy league!!

  257. Bud says:

    No chance Pedro.

Got me 2 from Wigan, 1 from Bolton, 3 from Pompey, 1 Manc, 2 from Villa, 2 from Blackburn, 1 from Citeh and of course 3 Gooners !!!!!!

  258. Bud says:

    fft = fantasy football team

  259. rico01 says:

Friedel Pedro – he broke his right wrist this morning during a training session, Paul Ince was interviewed saying he may go for Carso as cover – especially as Stoke have pulled out due to the interest from Blackburn and the price for Carson has raised.

  260. GMR says:

    Pedro, of course I’m in.

I see Goofle the guy who supposedly hates this site has joined the league as well.

  261. GMR says:

Pedro. I’m in. I have a couple of posts stuck in moderation because I mentioned the fact that G.oo.fle has joined the league!!

  262. Pedro says:

    I know… I saw that as well!

You wonder what goes through peoples heads sometimes!

  263. rico01 says:

Pedro, did you see my last post?

  264. Bud says:

Who’s the fella on our league with the team “AIMING FOR MID TABLE”…….. is that you Patsy? Patsy of the Recruitment world????

  265. Pierre says:

i think i have a spud in my ff team, cos i’m in another league where theres cash involved so i gotta put my business head on. heres a tip for choosin keepers, chose 2 from the same city, then your keeper always has a home game, i got Reina and Howard! same goes for fantasy champs league, i always pick the 2 milan keepers!

  266. Arsenaldo says:

rico -play for yourself -why helping others? U dont want the prize maybe??:))

  267. maqitlarge says:

Rico – I’ve gone with Green too. But little Theo will be my pride and joy.

  268. rico01 says:

Arsenaldo – Thats not very friendly ;)

  269. rico01 says:

maq – I got the little one too

  270. Arsenaldo says:

    Its a competition-no friends there…lol

  271. patthegooner says:

    SSN

Gilberto has joined Panathanakos, Arsenal have confirmed it

  272. patthegooner says:

    And it is on Arsenal.com

  273. maqitlarge says:

nice work Rico. See you at the top of the league then :-)

  274. MH says:

Full respect and the best of luck to Bert. Would have liked to see him stay. He was proper captain material and a true PRO

  275. patthegooner says:

Now we seriously need a statement about WTF is going on from the club, We knew they were off but now it is a official it is turning into last one turn out the lights

Geoff as a shareholder do you get any further information on this?

  276. Pierre says:

now Bert’s gone that just leaves Toure as an invincible.

  277. GMR says:

Pat, It must have been on a free because there is no mention of an undisclosed fee.

  278. patthegooner says:

    Well said MH

  279. Arsenaldo says:

    Long live Kolo The Invincible!

  280. GMR says:

Pat, I’m also a shareholder & no we don’t get any info on it!!

  281. Pierre says:

GMR it was on a free, I posted a comment at 1.57, they waived the fee so Bert would get better wages.

  282. Pedro says:

Rico… cheers for the heads up!

Fucking injuries… everything I love is cursed by injuries!

  283. patthegooner says:

GMR do you have the right to ask them WTF is going on?

  284. charybdis1966 says:

Well Berto has met his carousel – reached the age of 30+ and is surplus to requirements.

  285. Arsenaldo says:

This policy is wrong IMO- we are getting rid of our best over 30 players very easily and on the cheap too. The team needs experienced players, and we really cant win it with kids only(not counting the moody Gallas). Maybe carling cup but there we play with under 18s so …catch 22

  286. chris says:

perhaps it is what bertie wanted folks,

the guy is going to get well paid

some funny names on the FF, real or indeed made up,

    Odub you on?

  287. maqitlarge says:

Man U keep their experienced stars as committed squad members who can step in with confidence whenever needed. We give ours away so they can earn more money.
When it comes to raising ticket prices, selling merchandise and buying new players, we’re a business. When it comes to selling surplus (arguable) or unwanted assets we right off their market value because of a sudden bout of sentiment and lose all business sense. Someone please name me another club that does this.
    Un-fucking-believable.

  288. GMR says:

Pat, anyone can ask them what the f**ks going on but you won’t get a proper answer. I’ve written to them on a number of occasions over the past couple of years & as always you’re met with a standard response. They don’t care about the shareholders anymore than they care about the fans!!

  289. Pedro says:

Chris, he is Double O Heaven! haha!

I agree, berto should not have been shipped out. Geoff made a great point about our best players… they all reached 30+

Remember when a players peak was 32?

  290. charybdis1966 says:

If Wenger had made Berto to feel wanted and I’m aure he would have been happy with a squad player status then he would have stayed.

He would have had the sort of end to his career as DB10 – he obviously loves the club so why not ?.

  291. maqitlarge says:

I do believe that was my first all out rant on Le Mighty Grove!

  292. choy says:

“In a football world awash with ego, hype and sensationalism, Gilberto was a breath of fresh air. “

  293. Pedro says:

    Good rant… and I agree…

Sol Campbell being a prime example…

  294. Arsenaldo says:

your right Maglitarqe-none of the biggest teams does it . When will real get rid of Raul, Barca of Pyiol,Xavi,Milan of Maldini(that one never obviously:)- you know what I mean. Every team needs group of 7-8 players who U dont sell at any time, at any cost as they are your spine of the team . One can go and be replaced in a couple of years , but our team is changing every year and this is unhealthy. If you dont have a main group of players around which to build a team there will never be a success.

  295. Pierre says:

we let gilberto go for a song, boom boom!

  296. charybdis1966 says:

Arsenaldo – that’s what pi**** me off about Wenger – he always bleats about how you need stability but when you’ve got a revolving door system going on with our first team where the f*** is the stability ?

The only stability is in the income to the board. I tell you we’re the mugs here. Highest prices, most revenue and pathetic dealings in the transfer market and a non existent PR department who leaves the fans in the dark.

  297. Arsenaldo says:

And which is our spine : Toure and Clichy. Hope Sesc to become one of them and not to be sold. Thats it .NOt enough

  298. patthegooner says:

We better have a replacement holding midfielder announced in next couple of days, because if we have allowed him to go without sourcing a replacement first then it is complete incompetence. What if we cant find one, or those we want cost too much money (over 5m in Wengers case) we are fucked.

What if Diaby and Denilson get injured (They should not even start) Vik Akers better start doing his bleep test as he might get a game at this rate.

  299. patthegooner says:

Vieira, Campbell, Lauren, Pires, Ljungberg, Bergkamp, Henry, Jens, Flamini, Hleb, Gilberto

    Its a fucking joke,

  300. Bud says:

Pedro & Mandingo….. don’t forget to bring your boots Saturday…… I think we got a good chance of getting a game at Barnet you know !!!!!!!

  301. maqitlarge says:

At the moment our squad is too thin and inexperienced to be challenging. Particular areas are CM and across the defence (cover not first choice).
I can see Wenger not buying and then complaining about his options or players out of position when we drop points, like there was nothing he could do about it.

Us ticket holders are at breaking point.
Get that fucking cheque book out and turn our promising squad into a rock fucking solid squad of title challengers FFS.

  302. maqitlarge says:

For this season – NOT in time for the London Olympics!

  303. Odub says:

    Afternoon all!

Have had a mad day, but just saw on the TV in my co’s reception that Bertie’s gone.

I have no issues whatsoever about Arse.com doing a tribute for this guy because in his 6 years with us he was absolutely top notch, and the model pro (Adewankor take note). I wish him all the best and hope we see him in the future at someone’s testimonial(unlikely seeing as they all get shipped out once they hit 29!) so we can give him a proper send off!! Thanks for the memories GS19, Top bloke, and you leaving now leaves just Kolo and Gael as our last title winners, and invincibles.

Which brings me to Hleb. Am I the only one that’s noticed that we DIDN’T ACTUALLY WIN ANYTHING while this ice cream loving prat played for us?!! Godd riddance, and I hope you get found out sharpish!! White hankies at the ready catalan massive!!!

Just one question though…. Do we still think we do not need to buy anyone before the season starts?!!!

  304. choy says:

odub.. we need a DM and maybe another defensive player and a striker/attacking winger if ade goes!!

  305. Pierre says:

wheres MADD today, don’t say somebody else has snapped him up, he could be our tenacious terrior in midfield! can choose shirt no 13 or 19 now. I bet he’s gone to fuckin Uzbek to play along side Eto’o!

  306. Bud says:

Villa and Barry and i’m happy………. thats not asking a lot is it?

  307. Bud says:

    Pierre relax !

MADD is coming Saturday and is bringing his boots !

  308. Arsenaldo says:

Yes Odub “we dont need anyone for replacement as we have sooooo many talented kiddos coming trough the ranks and we shouldnt stop their development and give them a chance” that would be the answer of AW to you I guess. Or would it ?? Surprise us wenger -cmooooon!

  309. Pierre says:

    look at this on BBC

“On a day when Barcelona spent £11.8m on new signing Alex Hleb, a visit to their official website on Wednesday might have left you thinking the Spanish giants were a club in mourning.”

They are in mourning, they just bought a load of shit!

  310. Odub says:

Agree choy mate, I just dont think AW will though!

We are going to be mega light on experience in the centre of the park next season! Not happy at all!!

In the space of 7 months Diarra, Flam,Bertie and Hleb leave and we get Ramsey and Nasri to replace them?!!!

And we’ve still got Adewankor!! FFS!! Take 20 mill for the cnut and get some lose chagne together, buy a CB at least and a DM!!

  311. choy says:

    whos MADD?

  312. Odub says:

    Mandingo Aloysius Dkembe Dkembe –

So good they named him twice, future captain, midfield maestro and saviour of Arsenal FC…..

    Nuff said!!

  313. charybdis1966 says:

It seems bloody obvious that you don’t sell until you have an EQUIVALENT REPLACEMENT in place but then when has Wenger ever done that ?

When Paddy got shipped out ?

When Pires was disgracefully sahipped out when all he wanted was a 2 or 3 year deal ?

    When TH14 got flogged ?

When Flam was allowed to leave on a free cos someone cokced up with the Diarra situation ?
It so obvious and he never changes – Wenger is forming a repeated pattern of mistakes.

The essential problem is because Wenger has done well in the past no one dares offer an opinion and Wengers support staff are just a bunch of yes men.

  314. Odub says:

DDM – I hope you’re ready for that Mega Rant, stand by Monday morning!!

  315. Pedro says:

Whatever anyone says… we don’t behave like a big club. If Barca chase Hleb… we should go and chase someone else’s top player…

Who cares if Hleb is shite and it was good business (I am sure if you bought a property for 11.2 million 4 years ago, it would be worth more than 500k profit), the point is, we are losing one of our top players to a club we should be on a level with.

Who will replace him? Nasri… brilliant. I am sure he’ll be great, but straight away? I doubt it…

We should be in for Barry… Alonso… Robinho… anyone!

Once again we wont recruit sufficiently… it’s tiresome.

  316. Bud says:

Charybdis, I expect Wenger has got a replacement sorted, hence the hold up for a day or so in the Gilberto deal being finalised……….

What I will say is that each time a player like Vierra or Henry has left, we have never been let down with their replacements in terms of performance the following season (Fab for Vierra + Ade for Henry)….. both outperformed their piers the following season !

  317. Bud says:

In fairness, as much as I moan about our secretive ways Pedro…….. I think I prefer it to Totterings way of blurbing out names of players they want to sign, only for everyone to laugh when the player says “No Thankyou” !!!!!

  318. choy says:

bud.. but we’ve also never won anything!!

  319. Odub says:

    Bud/Pedro,

You’ve got your work cut out on Saturday, I hope you get some hints/info from reliable sources within the club that our summer purchasing isnt over!

  320. Bud says:

Why hasn’t Wenger relaeased his 4 lines on Gilberto, like he did with Hleb yesterday…… could it be because he is busy finalising a deal for his replacement and will explain why he let him go because of the signing of X?Y?Z?

  321. Arsenal Tom says:

doesnt clichy count as an invincible? im sure he played a bit

  322. Bud says:

In which case Choy – You answer the question why he is happy to sell anyone….. we aren’t good enough, so try someone else !!!!

  323. maqitlarge says:

Fair point Bud. But who’s going to get us the ball back?

  324. Bud says:

He played 11 games and got a medal, so he is an Invinsible !

  325. Odub says:

Tom he does, I did say there’s him and Kolo left from that magical season. Was Almunia about back then?

  326. charybdis1966 says:

Please don’t let the replacement for Flam/Hleb/Gilberto be that Bischoff joker. :( (

  327. Bud says:

Mandingo of course…….. GMR failed to get him a contract at Arsenal so has got him a fake passport as a 12 year old and registered him as a Ballboy. GMR told Mandingo it was the only way he could get him into Arsenal and thats why he has buggered off today………. he’s sulking and consulting his Lawyers !!!!!!

  328. choy says:

    lol

  329. charybdis1966 says:

Bud, I thought Berto was “the invisible” (wall) ?

  330. charybdis1966 says:

Bud, are you being ironic ? It’s hard to tell, especially whne you say Ade has performed like TH14.

Even if replacemets have performed well gutting the heart of a time on a regular basis does not help solidify team spirit.

Our midfield is haemorrhaging and we’re left to wonder WTF is going on.

  331. Pedro says:

Sorry Chary… your IP keeps changing!

  332. Bud says:

Facetious is more the word Charybdis !!!!!!!

  333. Pierre says:

friday tomorrow fellas, we will sign somebody tomorrow, nasri last friday, xxxx tomorrow. Prob that Bischoff stiff!

  334. ethangunner says:

well said pedro !(at 4:30 pm)

    a voice of sense !
and also please all bare in mind last season it was us that had the great team understanding,
it was us that got off to a flyer because we had that understanding !…
this year the shoe is on the other foot ! , the only way i can see us making up for this hiccup is to get in Experience to cover the gaps ! Remember we are fighting 2 teams that pretty much went the whole way thru the C.L and we are blessed to have them in our local Comp too !those 2 Who now possess settled squads , when ours is in the air and lost its backbone !

get with the program please ..
    Scream for quality !!!
    Now is the time !

  335. Arsenal Tom says:

i posted before i saw ur bit odub… great minds mate!

  336. Odub says:

    No worries Tommo!

Who do you think we’ll be signing then Pierre?

  337. Pierre says:

    bischoff :-(

  338. charybdis1966 says:

I thought so Bud, it wasn’t till I saw the Ade-TH14 comparison that I twigged !

I’m on a proxy server so I am going to look a bit dodgy Pedro.

  339. Odub says:

Great!! an injury prone player from a 2nd rate team in the Bundesliga! cant wait!

  340. Arsenal Tom says:

yeah… bishcoff… that should do the trick… we are fucked… and i hate to say it but if ade goes we’re even more fucked… more cover needed, another unfamiliar (probably unexperienced) face to get into the team

  341. charybdis1966 says:

It just gets better and better deosn’t it Odub ? And apparently Barry has got a foot injury so any move will probably be delayed -if we were ever in the running anyway.

  342. Pedro says:

Listen… Ade leaves, no fucking about… get on the blower to Hull and get Windass over here!

  343. GMR says:

I told you all earlier, our only other arrival this summer (other than kids) will be Bischoff. Wenger has no intention of spending money even though it is available to him. We might sign a striker but that’ll depend on Ade leaving which I cannot see happening now.

I said all this earlier & Pedro told me off for bringing the mood down!!

  344. Arsenal Tom says:

windass?? get DB10 back out of retirement… class is permanent after all!!!

  345. patthegooner says:

Part of me is saying wait and lets see what Wenger MP does between now and the end of the Transfer Window

But part of me is also thinking fuck it I have had enough of it. I know he has worked wonders in the past but Ethan you are right we are going into the summer with too much change and it will affect us. This is now last chance saloon, If Wenger MP gets this wrong as far as I am concerned his time is up. We need to get some fresh ideas as his are not working. I know we came close but if he had strengthened as the fans screamed for last summer, we would and should have won it, and if we can see that, how come he cant.

  346. Arsenal Tom says:

pat… he has his master plan of bringing through the youth and wont change… the board love it cos they save plenty of cash every year which just adds to their share value, most of them like fiszman dont give a fuck about the football anymore – he barely mentions football in an interview about the football stadium!!!

  347. GMR says:

The CL qualifier is on August 12/13th. It’ll probably be a harder challenge than previous years & we need the players to cope with it. Players need a pre season to get used to the system & to get to Arsenal fitness standard.

I don’t have a problem if Wenger wants to bring in a couple of kids at the end of August but I want all the first team sorted out now, so all us fans can see exactly how things are!!

  348. jules says:

Guys , like hleb or not we have sold 2 first names on the team sheet , hleb and flam and 2 expirienced players jens and gilb. SO , we said we needed 2or 3 , we have bought 1 plus a junior . So we need 3 or 4 . I can not see it happening . We have now broke even on ins and outs so we should now have 25 mill to spend . If Wenger does,nt spend and I don,t think he will , it will prove that this board has no ambition or intention other than a top 4 place , I am now really getting sick of this board and wengers incosistent statements and direction. ITS BEYOND THE FUCKING JOKE NOW . If they sign this bitchoff or whatever WILL ADD INSULT TO INJURY>

  349. Arsenal Tom says:

i agree GMR i dont mind him getting the youth because as cesc/clichy show it can work wonders but the problem is it seems to be all hes interested in…

not qualifying for the champions league (god forbid) would serve this fucking board right

  350. patthegooner says:

I actually think Fizman and the rest will only realise if we actually finish outside the top 4 or fail to win that qualifier.

  351. GMR says:

PHW paid himself 66k last year!! I’d love to know what exactly he done to earn that money. All the directors get a standard 25k per year (nice that they pay themselves & don’t do the same for shareholders), but Lord Harris of Peckham was the only one who waived his fee & gave it to charity, unlike the rest of the greedy bastards!!

  352. jules says:

agree tom , a kick up the arse is needed.

  353. maqitlarge says:

Nigh on blasphemy there Tom but I feel exactly the same way. This stinks!
Prove us all wrong Messers Fiszman, Friar, Hill-Wood and Wenger. Please, shut us all up, or move on.

  354. charybdis1966 says:

Don’t worry GMR – my mood, Arsewise, even if you tell me Teddy Sheringham is the next AFC CEO I couldn’t get any lower.

  355. jules says:

SPEND SOME FUCKING MONEY ! our squad is now thinner than it was , we played enough players out of position last year ffs.

  356. Pedro says:

Guys, do you think there is anything in the fact that Arsenal steamed through the top 3 in a day?

Are we due a couple of decent pieces of news tomorrow? Or will it just be the Barnet preview?

  357. maqitlarge says:

To acheive a goal you need to aim way above that goal.
When we we’re winning things (with Dein’s ambition) we were trying to be the best team int he world. Last year we tried to win the League but only achieve champs league qualification. Now it seems getting in the is teh aim, so what happens then.

Quite simply, our board is in need of ambition. If not we’ll go back to the Arsenal of the 60′s, late 70′s and mid 80′s.
Not sure they’ll finll that beautiful stadium in those circumstances.

  358. maqitlarge says:

    *getting in the champs league

  359. Wrighty7 says:

    Evening all,

    Great post as usual.

Dunno why but I think a couple of decent signings are around the corner, and no, I dont have any inside info!!!!

  360. Geoff says:

Could be something in that Pedro, could be something in that!

  361. Arsenal Tom says:

signings like bishcoff arent a problem as long as they arent our main ones… its clearly an opportunist buy from wnger… hes known him a while and apparentley only giving a 1/2 year deal to prove him self… thats fine with me cos the guys been touted as a potential class act when fit, the problem is that he’s seems to be our most likly signing when we so desperately need ready made players…

every day it gets worse 2 gone today what are the chances of getting 2 equivilant players signed 2mo???

  362. patthegooner says:

    We should be boycotting Barnet

    and the Emirates Cup

Either that or someone take a banner highlighting how incredibly reassured we are

  363. Pedro says:

It’s the fact there is nothing to post about on Arsenal.com that is intriguing Wrighty!

Are there a couple of decent stories lined up

    Day 1: Barry signs
    Day 2: Barry interview

  364. GMR says:

The Arsenal shares have actually gone down in the past couple of days (£150 per share), it just shows that confidence in Arsenal has become very low!!

Its about time Wenger came out & spoke, instead of constantly being in hiding. Tell the fans whats going on, just come out & reassure us that all these sales are planned & that he will be adding to the squad.

Of course though requesting that is as good as pissing in the wind because Arsenal don’t care about the fans. They only care when the possibility of losing money is involved.

  365. charybdis1966 says:

Pedro – they only announced 1 & 2 today, they announced TA6 as number 3 yesterday.

They may well be clearing the decks to announce a signing tomorrow, but it’s probably going to be Sonofabitchoff.

  366. Pedro says:

GMR, Arsene will come out and say he is fine with his squad and he has belief…

He may has well record that, burn it to CD and have it as his interview for the year…

    Chary… positive transfer thinking…

Shall I change the fate thing in the side bar? That normally brings luck…!

  367. jules says:

geoff / pedro look at the levels of desperation we have been driven to ! Clutch at them there straws boys . fuck me I hope you are right .

  368. Pedro says:

Next year Jules, we’ll be Champions league winner!

Del Boy had faith… it came good for him in the end!

  369. GMR says:

You’re having a laugh aren’t you Pedro. The only reason they’ve rushed through everything today is because the guy who does the internet wants the day off tomorrow. He’s had a hard week having to post new things up each day & now he’s suffering burn out!!

  370. Matt says:

First off – can i say that Gilberto was an absolute model Pro and a gentleman all of the way through his time with us – and a very underrated player too…

Good luck and all the best to the invisible wall.

I made the point the other day, that Wenger went out and got Diarra this time last year, which meant that he felt that he needed Flamini, Diarra, Gilberto and Diaby to compete for a place next to Fab in CM.

We have now sold or lost Diarra, Flamini and Gilberto – 2 out of choice.

Therefore, logically, AW cannot be 100% happy going into the new season with what we currently have, especially with Song going to the Olympics.

If i am right – it means that we must be looking to get at least 1 CM, or already have ne or more done deals in the pipe.

  371. PHW says:

Gilberto is a true gentlemen; he has conducted himself impeccably during negotiations with Pana………..

  372. jules says:

one day pedro , one day. ………………………………………………………………zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  373. PHW says:

Matt – sorry mate just noticed your post!!!!

  374. charybdis1966 says:

You’re right GMR- the part time YTS nerd they have “running” Arsecom probably wants to celebrate POETS day by getting into the pub for his alcopops at 10 o clock tomorrow.

  375. rico01 says:

Pedro – I was teasing you about Friedel – he is fighting fit and healthy

    I was having a giggle ;)

  376. Pedro says:

I read the job description for the role… it pays £24k a year…

That is shite when you are running one of the biggest football sites around.

    Pay peanuts, get monkeys…

  377. Wrighty7 says:

    I can feel it……………………ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  378. Dave T says:

So at risk of getting shouted down I am not so wotrried by the lack of activity. There is time, yes pre season starts on saturday but so what. Its Barnet not Madrid. A few will get a run out, some of the kids, maybe the odd one on trial. Its not the first game of the season. I liked Hleb, am sorry to see him go. I also liked Bertie but he was not cutting it and I remember lots of slagging Bertie of comments on lots of forums last season. Lehman was past it, great last Hurrah at the euros but would not have lasyed the season. So for me its only Flamani we have lost. I cannot stand barry so hope its not him. Alonso would be interesting but I still think it will be a player from either the East European or Spanish leagues. wenger seems to go through periods of recruiting from where he thinks the up and coming are . So we had the French, then the Africans, now its the spanish and east Europeans.

I think some on the forum just like being angry and shouting a lot, but Im old and Im bit less agigated these days. Take a breath its still July. If nothing has happend by mid August then we can sweat.

happy shouting, thumping the table and generally telling the world its all bad. but heh we could be the SP**s and that really would be bad.

  379. Pedro says:

    Gamesmanship eh Rico? Haha!

I was too lazy to even check!

  380. patthegooner says:

    No Offence Dave T

Three seasons ago I used to feel like that when we were selling our best players, but Arsene Wenger MP has worn me down.

Unfortunately I just no longer have the faith that said MP will actually go out and buy the required players.

  381. ReVELAtion says:

    Oooh joining in late!!!

Thank **** Hleb has gone.. I think we are all in agreement with that.. Kissing the bade when he signed?? 1 word comes to mind and it’s another word for cunt!

Bert has finally sealed his switch.. Does anyone know the exact damage Pana paid for him as alot of different interpretations have been mooted…

However posted the pics of Henry @ Hleb’s signing is a top bloke/lady… He looks like he wants to laugh, but the eyes tell me “i’m gonna lump the prick”… Give him one for me Thierry….

Berkamp was no.2 on the arsenal site an all… I don’t agree, but everyone is entitled to their opinion…

    1. Bergkamp
    2. Adams
    3. Henry

    For me…

Any other smutterings of daily rag and silly website rumours?

I notcied Arshavin wants to go to barca again… Mate after they’ve just signed Hleb that really isn’t a wise move.. No club will touch you now as it will be seen as “not your preferred destination”… I hope we don’t sign a 2 game wonder for a fee which could easily go as high as 19m….

I don’t wanna hear any more barry or alonso talk either…. Paper talk….

    Now….

The going outs seem to be (almost) done and dusted….

Let’s see some of that cash you’ve been hoarding Arsene :)

As for adebayor, it looks like he’ll stay, but he’s burnt his bridges as far as i’m concerned… He goes now or for a paltry fee next summer.. take 16m and wash our hands of it….

  382. rico01 says:

You little terror Pedro – all in good fun

Signing or two tomorrow then chaps?? I think so :)

  383. patthegooner says:

i will add that I would love it for him to prove me wrong and restore my faith, but he keeps coming out every summer with fucking stupid comments like ‘in 2-3 weeks’ ressure the fans’ and Super Super class players but it is never delivered.

  384. Pedro says:

Dave, the fact that we compete for the league against Chelsea and ManU means I don’t pay to much attention to the spuds.

If your only aspiration this season is to be in a better situation than spurs… then you are always going to be pretty calm aren’t you?

Having a settled squad for pre season is a pretty big deal…

Losing Berto, Hleb, Flamini and maybe Ade is a pretty big deal…

So, sorry the Grovers don’t share your calmness and sorry they have a bit more passion than you… we’ll stick to talking about what is going on with the club from a realistic view point, just like Winterburn and Seaman have been doing.

  385. Dave T says:

Pedro Realism, interesting idea in cyber space. No teams have a settled squad at this point in pre season, part of motivatiing players is that they do not know who the manager favours or is thinking of buying. The idea is to keep them competing or challenging. Being Calm is not a loack of passion. equally shouting its all crap does not make it so either. I have a view that its early in the process to be so worried. But If I am wrong Ill post and say so. I have been wrong a lot in life. I thought Flamini was shite and would stay shite.

Im sorry I do not count as a grover, not sure what one is, is it someone who agrees with you? Or someone who posts on the Grove?

  386. rico01 says:

My aspiration for our club -

Finish above every other team in the EPL

    At least finalist in CL

And FA Cup/CC thrown in would be good

I dont give a FKUC about the Spuds unless we are playing them, then its serious, but that same feeling is when we play anyone – I dont hate Spuds fans, nor do I hate Spuds – for me there is too much anger in this world, but if I am in the ‘stands’ when we both meet, then I will be as naughty as the rest, but for me, that is where it should stay…..

  387. GMR says:

When will someone have the guts to ask Wenger the questions the real fans want answered??

Question 1: Why every summer do you state no players will be leaving & then sell numerous players?

Question 2: Why do you always say you’ll sign super class talents & then sign only academy players??

Question 3: Are you going to replace the players you’ve sold with quality players or are you going to talk more bullshit about how you have faith in the current squad??

That’ll do for starters, if anyone can think of anymore please feel free to add to the list!!

  388. ReVELAtion says:

    pat you are spt on…

Signing in 2-3 weeks…. Failed Miserably

big talents, no big names…. Time will tell

Keep the squad together… Failed Miserably

    No-one will leave…. oh dear…

But he say’s the same thing every season

Wenger even guarenteed Henry would be at the club last season 1 week before he left for Barca….

Wenger needs to be called into account for these broken promises… I wouldn’t swap him for another manager, but he must realise alot of fans aren’t taken in by that calm, serene aura of his and his artistic football…

If your going to make any statements like the 1 above, make sure you can back them at least…

Don’t even get me started on the whole “manchester can’t let ronaldo leave blah blah blah.. saying they won’t let him ;eave then he does shows you are weaker then saying nowt blah blah blah” I think someone needs to powder their hand and give him a pimp reality slap!

  389. Pedro says:

ManU have bid for someone… Berbatov anyone?

  390. patthegooner says:

    I agree with that Pedro

I think we are also getting into a position where our starting 11 pick themselves and I personally think that there should be more competition for places. We are actually struggling to have enough worthy numbers to name a squad for a match at the moment

  391. I’m so thoroughly depressed with this pre-season.

A couple of things occured to me with the Hleb deal – it surely means we aren’t getting Toure and/or E’to and it probably means we aren’t getting shot of Adebyewhore either. Otherwise all that activity would have been done at the same time wouldn’t it?

I face the prospect of booing an Arsenal player this season and I never thought that would happen.

I might cheer myself up by being the second lady to join the fantasy football league.

  392. patthegooner says:

    Dave T

ManUre, Chelsea and Liverpool are pretty settled at the moment and thats our main competition

  393. Geoff says:

Wel Dave my old friend you are 1 of the 390 that’s okay with the situation, I think you’re easily pleased, good luck mate, we’re not.

  394. ReVELAtion says:

not neccessarily @ queen… They”ll be back right on the death of the transfer window, i bet….

Looks likely at the moment Ramsey, nasri & Vela are all getting thrown in right at the deep end… That doesn’t fill me with particularly, but i can’t help thinking it ISN’T AN IDEAL SITUATION WHEN YOUR TARGETS ARE TO CHALLENGE FOR THE EPL TITLE!

  395. patthegooner says:

Rico looks like you have competition

  396. ReVELAtion says:

    fill me with *fear

  397. Geoff says:

    Revelation, artistic football, autistic management!

  398. GMR says:

    Dave,

Signings need time to adjust to a new team. We’ve lost half of our midfield from last season, we have an unhappy striker (our most productive one last season at that) & we have a manager who has blatantly lied to all the supporters, not once, but twice since the summer begun. Its easy to stay in denial & pretend everything’s ok, but facts don’t back that up.

We have until the end of August to sign players, but we could be out the CL & struggling in the league by then. You need players in early to adjust to the system, to get used to their new team mates etc. I’m yet to see a player join at the end of August & have a good season at Arsenal, but feel free to correct me if you can think of one!!

  399. Pedro says:

I didn’t say you weren’t a Grover… I meant the collective you were referring to as table thumpers.

When you say that everyone is table thumping and shouting about how bad it is… you are kind of disassociating yourself? If you’re not… then I apologise.

It took us over a month to land Nasri, we need at least 3 players… do you believe that will happen? Does Wenger ever really replace adequately anymore?

I’m not calm, becuase we’ve had this for 4 years now… best player leave… average players replace.

  400. Pedro says:

    QoS… get on there!

  401. Arsenaldo says:

Anyone watching Merida playing now? He looks good

  402. ReVELAtion says:

    geoff i agree…

Wenger’s main problem’s have always been making game changing subsitutions (Walcott cries from the AKB will only further add fuel on that font) & Utilising fringe squad members, when genuine 1st teamers need a breather…

Ade, Cesc & Hleb all burnt out last season at various stages… Where was the reinforcements? aaah right THEY WERENT USED! Bentdner, Denilson & Song could have all made more strides and more contribution that they we’re given)..

    BUT If your french though……*whistle*

hence why diaby will get the nod over denilson.. let’s just get that straight right now if we sign no-one of considerable note and over 23…

We’ll still be there or there about’s.. But i’ve got tired of hoping that rather than knowing it…

  403. rico01 says:

I am just hoping that the Mr Whippy money will now be spent…

  404. Arsenaldo says:

Just got the ticket for my friend for the Emirates cup on the post. Except Secs on the picture of the pack next to him is HLEBbbbbbbbb. You fucked up AFC…

  405. GrahamGeorge says:

i took another nick for the league

    my team.. Fuddu_Bacchey

don’t ask me what it means :)

if you know a Punjabi bloke, he can tell you the translation

  406. Dave T says:

My point is that I am not happy with the situation or unhappy with it. Im waiting calmly. I dont see being angry about it makes any diference to the situation. It might make some feel better and if it does thats great. Anger never made me feel good. Although some of the angry posts make me laugh as they contain great humour. Im still laughing re the idea of Hleb being caaled shoot. My guess is that in the next two weeks we will see things shift. But with the credit Crunch and all the big players being cautious it may take time. Re players settling being bought late, Gallas did ok. There may be others but Im not an expert on the date x signed so he may be the exception. If others prefer I’ll just crawl back into my delusional darkness and leave the rightous to all agree. Although a blog were everyone agrees soon becomes liike belonging to a cult so I hope we can still find space to argue, shout, stay calm and disagree. After all Wenger does not know best all of the time and nor maybe do any of us.

  407. GrahamGeorge says:

    its a case of TINA

we may shout rant and do anything

    its just that TINA

    HWD-W-HWD

  408. patthegooner says:

    Dave We welcome the opinion

Like you say a one-sided debte is pointless, and you will find a lot of us on here disagree with each other all the time, but as time has gone on, we are all slowly loosing faith and patience with Wengers Summers of Turmoil, Bullshit and Uncertainty

  409. ReVela . . . I think that Walcott is one of the most under used assets available to Wenger. Song . . . well, I am not so sure he is the answer in the back. Gallas . . . how much more time will he need before “settling in?” Time will tell.

  410. Also, is the warm up match this Saturday on Setanta? Anyone know?

  411. GMR says:

    Dave, who called you delusional??

If Gallas done well for his first season then I feel sorry for someone who doesn’t. Gallas was woeful & missed half of it injured because, as he claimed at the time, he hadn’t had a proper pre season!!

  412. Patrick7 says:

Well said Rico: I don’t HATE anyone. Yes, we all get upset when a ref gives a bum call or when Ronaldo dives and either gets a free kick or nothing but doesn’t get a booking either but the RIVALRY should stay at the game. Rugby gives a great lesson there and lots of Arsenal players used to share time with Spurs players at the Carlton club (in North London in the 70s?) don’t know whether AWs stopped that now.

I don’t like the arrogance of Fergie and the gamesmanship but I support the team against foreign opposition because I’m patriotic and I’d rather a British team won whatever cups are to be had.

Let’s now hope for some decent quality signings along the lines of Sagna, Nasri and yes, Villa if we manage to offload Ade, sooner rather than later because the sooner they’re settled in the more chance we’ve got for a good start to the EPL and staying in the CL which we definitely want to win this year!

  413. Patrick7 says:

……and don’t forget the CB and DMF to bolster our saggy, fragile defence!

  414. choy says:

    saggy?

  415. ReVELAtion says:

Song did well when deployed at centre back down the back end of the season… If obviously the faith in big phil was waning (which it was after that show at anfield).. I have seen enough of his performances to have that same worry now that i had when cygan was in first 11 against a decent side… Song will feature more this season though i expect anyway…

Walcott though is a different issue… I personally think Wenger got it spot on… Yes Eboue grated a little on the flank, but he got a sniff upfront, flitted in and out as an impact winger/player, then got the starts his improvement merited down the back end of the season… Eboue had enough experience at the top level to warrant wenger fitting him in somewhere… It was a how u enzleesh say, “a safer option” that Walcott at that stage..

  416. Patrick7 says:

GMR – I wouldn’t call WG’s season woeful! He got to halfway OK, saved us in several matches with his goals. He supported Sagna when he needed it (off the field) which may have contributed to his ‘collapse’ at Brum and afterwards tailed off maybe because some of his teammates lost faith in him, who knows? I’d call his season mediocre and hope he gets it together this one because otherwise I see the door looming!

  417. Geoff says:

So Dave, there’s a credit crunch and as you say caution, but it doesn’t stop the greedy bastard Ade asking for more or the greedy bastard board putting the seasons up, you can’t have it both ways mate.

Glad you like the shooooot comment though, you’re right, it was rather funny!

  418. Geoff says:

Sign Zapata and help him out the door Patrick, Jeeeesuuuus how much does he earn to be as you say…mediocre!

  419. ReVELAtion says:

I have a strange feeling our back will have an exceptional season for some reason…

  420. ReVELAtion says:

    back 4… bejesus

  421. GMR says:

Patrick7, Did you actually read my comment??

  422. Patrick7 says:

Geoff – All prices go up as time moves on. There hasn’t been a price rise for ‘did he say 3 years’ so it’s inevitable, especially as there are thousands still wanting those tickets – what’s the waiting list for season tickets: tens of thousands.

The 38+K are now 60+K and still people are clamouring. I know my sons still struggle to get tickets and the price just means they watch some on telly and others when they can get the tickets! The only things moving downwards are house prices and SKIN!

  423. michael says:

Patrick. My son is number 49903 on the waiting list!

  424. ReVela . . . I think we shall see much more of Walcott (He had better, if I am forking over the big bucks for a new home and away jersey). Your comments about Eboue were spot on. He has the experience, though I was always afraid that he would have a tantrum, kick someone in the groin, and get thrown off (Though I love how he pleads with the ref after a foul has been committed . . . classic).

I see Walcott stepping up this season, and possibly getting the field time that he has been wanting. I could even see Eboue becoming a “Walcott sub.” Not sure how pre-season will go, but that is just a hunch.

Gallas was not all bad. Song had a few “moments” here and there, but the reality was that Song was never really on the pitch for me to give him a full assessment. Phil . . . there were games where I was thinking, “my grandmother can run faster than this guy,” and then there were games where he kept us in the game (CL games in specific). So, my thought is this, he is simply too hot/cold.

The saying is true in American Football . . . defense win’s championships, and that also applies to our beloved game. If you can keep them from scoring, you can win games. It is that simple. There were a number of games (Man Ure, Chelski) where we went up, only to let the lead slip. Sometimes you get one goal, and then have to grind out the remaining 60 minutes.

  425. Patrick7 says:

Unfortunately, when you play (and train at that level) with the knocks that football gives you, especially with age (I’ve said enough about that) it gets tough!! Some are lucky and have really strong frames with low stress (relatively). Others are more finely tuned and can be thrown ‘off’ quite easily. These are normally the very gifted and normally the most abused on the field.

Gamesmanship/professionalism should be hammered by refs and ideally by one with video replays but currently officialdom is doing a poor job IMO. I’ve been on both sides of the fence internationally in speed skating, not the one against one, and you can’t do the job 100% if you haven’t ‘played’ as you don’t know what to look for!

  426. On the ticket note, I have been trying to get tickets lined up for this season, and it seems that an act of Congress is required to get my hands on two games for 3 people. Such is the life of an American loving Arsenal.

  427. Patrick7 says:

When are they putting the extension on the Emirates then? Did I hear it can take another 20K?

  428. TREZE13 says:

I’m number 47420……….on the season ticket waiting list

  429. Patrick7 says:

GMR – I always read your comments as I highly rate your input. I’m the half full glass one of the two of us!

I hope a proper pre-season will help him through the whole of this one. If not, at his age……………………………………….

  430. Patrick7 says:

Geoff – That’s why the prices go up – demand. When 50K people can’t get tickets…….

  431. ReVELAtion says:

lol i keep changing my squad in fantasy manager… I want 4 arsenal players not 3 :(

  432. GMR says:

Patrick7, I asked because you & I were talking about different things. I was talking about Gallas’s first season at Arsenal, whilst you were talking about last season!!

  433. GMR says:

Incidentally I think Gallas is a terrific defender, it must be extremely frustrating with young inexperienced players around you after coming from a near rock solid defence at Chelski!

  434. Pedro says:

Patrick… You’d like to think there will be a tipping point with Arsenal’s greed… but it is hard to see it?

Geoff isn’t saying he doesn’t understand why Arsenal charge a lot … he is doesn’t understand how a club that charges so much always professes to be skint…

So what is going on? Anything new?

    Debating the merits of Gallas?

Up until Feb… did anyone have a problem? I can’t work out whether it was Kolo and Senderos that fuelled the Gallas dip?

  435. Trindle says:

According to the club website, our first team squad consists of 25 players. Allowing for the walking, and non-walking, wounded … we can’t even have a first team practice match.
My season ticket waiting list cert arrived a couple of years back number 44k+ … it went in the bin as I will be long gone by then. Just hope that one day my kids can upgrade their red membership to Silver.

  436. choy says:

gallas was great as a defender.. his attitude left something to be desired.. we were doing fine until toure came along and phil had to make way and toure got injured again and we know what happened next…

  437. Patrick7 says:

Sorry GMR I misunderstood. Yes I thought you were talking about last season!
I’ve been disappointed with him since he joined us but if he leads us with the heart he showed in the first half of last season, especially scoring when our strikers choke I’ll be more than happy.

Still nervous of that defence as it stands – surely he’ll sign one recognised dependable guy there!?

  438. GrahamGeorge says:

where can we see the Brnet game in USA?

  439. GrahamGeorge says:

    *Barnet*

  440. Pedro says:

Ask one of the Grovers on the Saturday and they’ll find you a stream to watch it from.

  441. Pedro says:

Chris is normally pretty spot on with stuff like that

  442. GrahamGeorge says:

this place is rising up in my fav site charts :)

  443. Pedro says:

    Glad to hear it!

Where abouts in the states are you based?

  444. choy says:

GG.. its been the best thing since sliced bread!!

  445. finestcuts says:

You could be charged with section 5 for referring to Chelsea fans in a “deeply offensive” way:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/main.jhtml?xml=/opinion/2008/07/17/do1706.xml

  446. GrahamGeorge says:

    i am based in Arkansas

    not much soccer action here..

    its a football state

  447. Pedro says:

Finest… that article deeply offended me.

I’ll continue using the word chav because when you live on a council estate (My uni days) and you are faced with them every day… you realise they deserve a worse more offensive term… little cunts.

It’s not a term for the lower classes… It’s a term for the scum of society, the under class.

  448. finestcuts says:

It’s absolutely absurd that the Fabian society try to socially engineer the way people speak, what is acceptable and what is not, 1984 in full effect….learn news speak!

  449. Pedro says:

Exactly… imagine being on the committee?

If your life revolves around something as petty defining what words are ok, you need to get a life…

I do love reading up on news speak etc… have you seen out foxed or Peace, propaganda and the promised land?

The last one was a real eye opener!

Arkansas… love the accent! Do you have your own MLS team?

  450. ReVELAtion says:

Rico is villa going to sign by midnight? Or is that woman’s intuition flagging a bit :(

  451. Trindle says:

Thanks for that link Timmy – says it all really.

As a middle aged Gooner (first game in Dec 1970) and a VERY recent entrant to the World of Blogging … I must say this is an excellent site, as close to a virtual post-match session as I thought possible. Cheers guys

  452. Pedro says:

    Welcome to Le Grove trindle!

    It’s Arsenal all day, everyday!

Nice name ReVELAtion… I haven’t welcomed you yet, welcome (Geoff probably has already)!

Just read the Berto interview… such a shame…

  453. rico01 says:

Forgive me if this has been discussed – but

Ronnie the Winker photo’d in Italy last night (i think) in a bar, and on crutches – his bar bill was £10,000 – Vodka and Champers drunk……

Now Old Red Nose will not like that – Is Ronnie playing a game with the fergie to get his move…?

Fingers crossed he is and goes …………

I am no AKB – BUT, I have posted many a blog with my view on AW.

He MUST know, this is last chance saloon, he MUST know he needs to get our defence RIGHT

He MUST know he needs to get our midfield RIGHT

He MUST know he needs to get an out and out striker an Ian Wright kind of a guy, a player with a nose for the goal…………….

He MUST know – if he doesn’t – his career at Arsenal HAS to be called into question, Yes he has taken our club forward, but right now it is at a standstill, stagnant….

He has money, he had money before Whippy and Sir Gilberto left – now he has 13M to use….

Arsene – Do all us fans a favour, give us a reason to believe in you the way we did four seasons ago….

Do that Mr Manager and we fans, your bread and butter will again support YOU, and will again have a good reason to smile………………….

  454. finestcuts says:

I haven’t seend them Pedro, but i can tell you for a fact that there a “think tanks” who want to replace Standard English with Global English, a dumbed down version of English where Idioms don’t exist/aren’t used, the grammar of the language is dumbed down to make sentence construction easier, a simple exampe…..
    He thinks = Standard English
He think = Global English, no articles ie. a, the etc.

    http://www.cambridgeesol.org/what-we-do/newsroom/2007/global_english.html

I saw a few examples and it made me sick to the stomach that they’re not taking the piss, they’d actually like to people to adopt it, first internationally, and then perhaps start teaching kids in England and other English speaking countries. These days the aim is to simplify…..do all the thinking for people…..keep them entertained…..and then society complains that there are chavs. It stinks but they’re purposely being discouraged to think for themselves.

  455. finestcuts says:

    seen* sorry!!

  456. finestcuts says:

fact that there a “think tanks” = fact that there “think tanks”

damn, I’ll need to chill out and re-read what I write since my typing skills aren’t as good as they could be..

  457. finestcuts says:

there are* Lord have mercy, I’m not good at multi-tasking either

  458. Pedro says:

Negative liberty (Isaiah Berlin) Finest? Facebook society type of thing… encourage people to only think about themselves, then they’ll be to absorbed to notice anything else?

You can see it happening… getting marks for writing a swear word on an exam paper… 20% pass marks… the dumbing down of society. There is a book that chronicles how they are doing it in America… it is called the deliberate dumbing down of America!

That is why when teacher in this country say they offer a great education I laugh… compared to what?

  459. ReVELAtion says:

Just the seen comment Vela made about Dos Santos joining Spurs.. Almost enough to make him an Arsenal legend before he even plays a game (It’s easy according to the offical website).. It went a little something like this… ” Once Dos Santos proves himself at Spurs I hope he gets a chance to join a big club ” :D

    2 thumbs up!

  460. finestcuts says:

    http://www.dailyexpress.co.uk/posts/view/52921

Who the bloddy hell listens to Pete “crack/skaghead” Doherty?

He can do what he likes and it’s “criminal” to use the word chav!

  461. Pedro says:

    That was a hilarious comment!

Mike Ashley said something funny about Spurs as well!

  462. ReVELAtion says:

    The Musketeers

    Fabregas
    Nasri
    Vela
    Walcott

  463. ReVELAtion says:

    U Watch….

    Fabregas is de-art-ang-ian of course

  464. ALL IS NOT WELL AT THE EMIRATES ITS RUN BY A LOAD OF PIRATES says:

Carlos Vela is our m8 he hates tottnumb quality comment

  465. finestcuts says:

I know, it sucks, I’m told to play more games in classroom to keep the punters happy, do enlarged photocopies, underline words…..
I’m not some batty playgroup leader!

  466. Pedro says:

    Eto’o,

“I have several good offers from various clubs at present. I’m planning to return to Barcelona and starting from Saturday I will consider all my options, including the one from Kuruvchi,”

  467. Pedro says:

Never say the word no to a child… it’s all about positive reinforcement… bore me later!

I don’t know how you do it!

  468. finestcuts says:

The world is in deep trouble Pedro, the “think tanks” want us to think as we’re told!

  469. rico01 says:

OK, well my last post was my view, and I think AW can turn it around, IF he knows whats good for him

    Villa
    Yaya/Barry
    Richards

    And this Bischoff kid -

I would be happy with them

And thats it from me – Take care Grovers, catch up soon :) XX

  470. Pedro says:

Read up on the Bilderberg group… they make most of it happen.

So, Eto’o… would you have him over a disgraced Ade?

  471. Trinidad_Gunner says:

A good place to get streaming video is asiaplate.com
You’ll need to download software like sopcast, tvu, tvants, … but they have most games, and not just football, lots of cricket and other stuff on there.

It’s just a website that links you to the sports streaming through programs like sopcast.

  472. rico01 says:

One last – for Vela – it will happen ;)

    TTFN

  473. Trinidad_Gunner says:

Good for those in other countries, especially when they show the boring teams on FoxSports instead of Arsenal … usually we get about 2 Arsenal games for the month on FSC though

  474. Trinidad_Gunner says:

    Spain 0 – Hungary 1

    Merida subbed off at 65

    Anyone see the game?

  475. finestcuts says:

I’ve read about them Pedro, they’re very influential people, but none of us know what goes on behind closed doors.

Ade……….it’s more personal than anything, is Arsene Wenger really going to allow himself to be treated like a doormat just to get goals that someone also could?

Eto………if things don’t go his way he’ll lose his motivation to play for the team.

Santa Cruz or Huntelaar for me. Santa wants to stay at Blackburn because he feels he owes the club who helped to resurrect his career, and that’s fair enough. Huntelaar wants Champions League football, he’s a different type of player to Ade or Eto and Ajax are granting suitors permission to speak, so I’ll maintain my pro-Huntelaar stance. He would also be a superb partner for Van Persie.

  476. Geoff says:

Hey Patrick, I hope you’re still reading, first price rise in three years my arse.

My season tickets went from £1700 to £2,500, when we left Highbury, then they said nothing for 3 years, two years later it’s £2,600 and in that time we’ve had negative transfer spend, and by that I mean we’ve had a surplus and won fuck all and pay more than any other fans including Mila, Madrid and ManU.

So for all that I expect him to spend some of what I contribute, fuck even Sunderland spent £29mil last season and they probably pay £250 a year.

  477. Trinidad_Gunner says:

Huntelaar or Villa for me … with Roque as 3rd choice.
Some think that Huntelaar looks good cause he’s in the Dutch league, but its not as bad as its made out to be. You can’t knock Ajax. And the goal looks the same regardless of which league you’re in.

  478. patthegooner says:

I would take Etoo for Ade.

I dont think there will be a personality problem with him. Arsene Wenger MP and Etoo have been giving each other compliments for years. I think Etoo is another one that wants to be the big cheese, the North Bank Darling and if he continues to score as he has done then we can ressurect his career.

And he would not be poached or tapped up by others, he has already done Barca and Real so I think we would get the best years out of him. 77 Goals in 108 appearances for Barca, fuck that is superb

No to Santa Cruz for me. If people can point at Ade for the possibility of being a Phillips, Ricketts type one season wonder then you can angle it at Cruz as well. Just look at his Bayern history, in 8 seasons he never scored more than 8 with a total of 38 in 188. Too much risk there for me

I honestly think we will end up with Ade though, and the only way we can change that will be to voice our opinion and mass boo him at the Emirates Cup. I have never done that at Arsenal but in his case I would make an exception he has pissed me off that much.

  479. Pedro says:

I go along with Pat… sign a player who has been with the best and wants to prove his doubters wrong with stunning performances.

He is the clinical type of winner we need… experienced, fast and an amazing finisher.

He would compliment RvP so well… it would be a dream partnership and it would boost the team.

I also rate Santa and Hunter… but if you want a great player to raise the profile of the club, Eto’o is your man!

  480. Patrick7 says:

Sorry Geoff – I was only quoting from Fizman’s speech of Tuesday. Didn’t he say that? Was he talking about the normal seats then?

Just about to turn in but liked Rico’s last posts! Great gal! – I’m happy with our attack which should have extra prongs on it this year but if we can turn out Ade and replace with Villa so much the better. Huntelaar’s too much like Eduardo for me.

We need to win the midfield battles though to keep our style of play and you know the rest……………

  481. El Tel says:

    Hi Guys

Its a very sad day for me as one of Arsenals legends left our Club today. Mr Gilberto Silva I personally want to thank you for playing for our Club.

You are a gentleman and a player who was vastly under rated. From the first time I saw you play I liked you. I was one of the few who was arguing your case when many Gooners thought you were not good enough.

You are a world cup winner for the best national team on the planet, you were in the invincibles team. and you were in my opinion the best Captain we have had since Tony Adams. Your skills were not flashy but to the ones who looked closely they were definetly Brazilian. The way you killed the ball with all parts of your body and the way you moved around the park and played the simple pass to more creative team mates was outstanding.

Many said you couldn’t pass but I reckon your stats hold up to the top end of the scale rather than the bottom end. You had a knack for scoring important goals and you were excellent in the air. My last memory of you was the superb pass at sunderland that sent the young Walcott away for a goal.

You deserve a wonderful life and I hope it goes well at Pana for you.

Gilberto Silva Arsenal and Brazil legend Many Thanks and good luck.

  482. Pedro says:

Rico knows her football, no doubting that!

  483. Trinidad_Gunner says:

    I would accept
    Hleb for Yaya + $$
    Ade for Eto + $$

Too late for the Yaya deal ?

  484. Pedro says:

    Well said Tel…

  485. Patrick7 says:

Good points Pat…………….Come on Milan, Barca, anyone and take him away!

  486. patthegooner says:

Did anyone see the welcome party for Ronaldinho on Sky Sports. Very impressive

And they have sold 5,000 season tickets in 24 hours as a response. Can you imagine what they will make on the merchandising

A mate of mine who supports Newcastle went up when they signed Owen and they did something similar, he was presented to the home fans and he said it was a huge buzz. Why cant we have something similar, its like we are missing out on things like that, that are part of being a football fan, they seem happy to share the pain every summer, so how about a bit of fucking reward. We dont even get a press conference to hear what they have to say. No instead we have to subscribe and pay to watch a wanky tv station.

Arsenal is a walking Fucking PR disaster. GMR Geoff, do you know who the PR Manager is, he needs shooting (Is he a Spurs fan)

  487. Pedro says:

    Pat… I don’t think there is one!

  488. patthegooner says:

    Very good point there Pedro

    Etoo is a winner!!!!!!!!!

  489. Dave T says:

Im with you on the season Ticket price it is bloody madness. yes we should expect Wenger/the board to spend some of the money on new players. My personal choice would be Boruc. Almunia is good, he is an honest pro, fits in well, works hard and has improved. But a world class keeper wins you games rather than stops you losing them. There is a difference. Almunia will not lose us games but I dont think he is a match winner. Keepers are just as important as strikers they are just less posey. I also think the problem with the defence is that Almunia does not command the box, this leads to the defenders dropping back toards the goal and encouraging the flick ons and knock downs that have cost us points. If the Defenders had faith that anything knocked into the box would be collected by a dominating keeper we would not need a six foot four centre half. Jens did this and we won the bleedin double.

But if we dont get a keeper than can we have a six foot six monster of a defender that will scare Drogba shitless and squash Torres while swatting the winker and his mate Shrek.

  490. El Tel says:

    Gilberto

You were also the master of the tackle and rarely gave away free kicks around the box. If you didn’t win the tackle you pushed the attacker towards a colleague who would help you win the ball back. Well done Bertie.

  491. patthegooner says:

We should be going to Barca and saying

How about Ade for Etoo straight swap….No Etoo and cash

He is now my dream signing of the summer, Pedros point has pushed him ahead of Villa for me..He is a winner, his presence alone would rub off on the lads coming through.

If we could take Etoo and Barry

and get rid of Ade, I would be pretty confident going into the season if we could keep the likes of RVP and Rosicky fit as well.

Come on Arsene…. The annoying thing here is it is feasible…..just do it

  492. Pedro says:

Dave T… I think Almunia was a pretty good keeper for us last year… he didn’t drop any crosses and came out when needed. We conceded 3 headers last year… 10% of our goals and I don’t think there was much Big Al could do with them.

I have seen Boruc drop some howlers… he wasn’t half as solids this season as he was the last year from what I have seen.

Ideally, you’d love one of the big 3… Cech, Casillas or Buffon, they are the best… no one else comes close.

I’d love a younger Brad Friedel.

  493. El Tel says:

    Thanks Pedro

agree Etooe would be the dogs mate.

  494. Geoff says:

No problemo Patrick, El Tel, he didn’t leave, he was lefted, it’s what our leader does when you hit 30, unless of course your name is Gallas, you’re French, you sulk and you bad mouth the club.

Then for some strange reason, you’re made captain and kept.

  495. patthegooner says:

Do you know, I think Almunia is going to have a blinding season and not just because he also turns out for my Fantasy football team

Without the pressure of Jens glaring at him and sticking needles in Manuel dolls, he will excel this season.

  496. MIchael says:

    501st!

Has anyone seen gilberto signing his new contract? he’s upstairs in the kebab shop!!

  497. El Tel says:

I’d have an older Brad friedel :-)

  498. rico01 says:

Eto is off to some crazy team
    Robinho is off to Barca

We are stuck with Ade unless Milan come back in for him…. No chance…

I will be gone soon, honest

  499. rico01 says:

MIcheal – Gilerto never ate kebabs, and never will, he was and always will be a Saint in my eyes…. I will miss him, and what scares me more, is, SO WILL CESC!

    Thats why we NEED Villa

  500. MIchael says:

I think we’re stuck with Ade. He’s going to have to play like a demon to win people over. I’d swap him for anybody even keira knoghtly in bend it like beckham.

  501. finestcuts says:

Can’t stay away eh Rico…you’re a rarity…a woman who likes football and knows about it….Rico knows!
I tried to get my mum to pick a fantasy team today, lord have mercy………..what a load of cobblers…

  502. Geoff says:

Carson and Alonso from Liverpool, I’ve gone off Barry he’s a spud, how could I have been so stupid!

  503. MIchael says:

Rico. I wasn’t taking the piss. I love him to bits. Check out the picture of him signing his contract though. I’ll find a link if you haven’t seen it.

  504. Pedro says:

I thought the fantasy league had stayed on 50 for a while… then I realised there was another page!

    76 players in a day!

We could have quite a few by the 15th of August!

  505. MIchael says:

I don’t think I’m allowed to link it.

  506. rico01 says:

MI – I didnt think you were – honesy, I will just miss him. thats all,

He is so honest, and so fit,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, And I am a woman!!

He is the Mutts Nutts ;)

  507. El Tel says:

    You are right Geoff

Bertie lost heart after the Captain fiasco at the start of last year but what a man to try lift himself when called upon.

Pat I hope your right about the Spanish waiter mate because I am shitting my self that his only back up is another rookie.

  508. MIchael says:

I joine the ff today. I’m going for last without any spuds.

  509. El Tel says:

Eye Eye Rico are you having one of them moments gal. Geoff I heard Barry is a Spud lover too. Not sure about him now but Micky Thomas was a Spud fan and look what he did for us and I believe DB10 had a soft spot for them although I think he fancied Glenda.

  510. patthegooner says:

Geoff, GMR as shareholders do you think Usmanov will be the winner out of all of this

I imagine our share price is on the decline and given the credit crunch, will some of the shareholders cash in? I just read that he already picked up another 32 in the last 4 weeks leaving him 349 short

  511. El Tel says:

    Michael

i saw a small pic of Berties signing and it looked very dodgy mate.

  512. El Tel says:

    Hi Pat

We are in turbulant times again at the Arsenal it seems. Lets hope who ever comes out on top in the boardroom keeps things the Arsenal way.

  513. Geoff says:

Pat the way Wenger keeps disrespecting us I feel like selling to the fat one, it’s like him and the board don’t care what we the fans want.

  514. rico01 says:

finest – you are generous with your comments, and you Pedro,

Bloggers like you two, and many others make me realise that just because we dont agree, doesmt mean we dont like our club.

Just because we doubt AW – doesn’t mean we think he is a bad man, he just needs to open his eyes!!??

What gives me hope is this site, people who give their time to ensure we all have a good time having a ‘mass debate’! In the hope that AW reads our views…!

Pedro and Geoff deserve an OBE or CBE for services to Bloggers – I am not going to get all morbid, but through a very difficult time, this site has kept me sane, some of you would have read my previous comments about why I hate Liverpool.. and .. Well that is my reason…

Le Grove has been my saviour, and I will be forever in its debt,

Thank you – all of you :)

    Rico

Have you been on the Peroni again :)

  516. rico01 says:

El Tel – Steady boy!! ;)

  517. rico01 says:

    pat – No, honest!! ;)

  518. Geoff says:

Rico you are very sweet and you are very welcome, I hope things are looking up or you now.

Where do I get my OBE, I want one!

  519. finestcuts says:

Pat the credit crunch is only temporary, they’ll start printing notes again in a few years time, and I don’t believe Usmanov will gain significantly, the club won’t lose it’s value in pounds, but Sterling is rapidly devaluing by the day, the only way to preserve the value of any liquid assets you may have is to buy Gold, or other commodities which are in demand (for example copper, coffee…..consumables and metals are safe bets).

  520. Geoff says:

I’m off all see you tomorrow! Have a good night.

  521. rico01 says:

    Geoff – its just honesty

I will be writing to Lizzie to put you both forward for your OBE – mind you, she may disagree, and go straight for the Knighthood -

Sir Geoff & Sir Pedro —– Sounds good ;)

  522. AndyB says:

Just got in from work and read your post Geoff, I dont know about excited yet, but he must have something in the pipeline and it has to be soon. Would be great if he signed all on your wishlist, and i have to say I think he might just do it.

ps. I m sure you already know but Barrys agent was at the training ground yesterday, apparently

  523. rico01 says:

Thats it this time, be good you all ;)

  524. patthegooner says:

Just found out you can field a 3-4-3 on the fantasy football

    This changes everything

  525. patthegooner says:

    Andy B

Where did you hear that? now that would be good news

  526. AndyB says:

Daily star, so its probably crap, but you never know

  527. AndyB says:

Have since read the Hill Wood “the Arsene way” speach, now Im pissed off again.

  528. patthegooner says:

WTF is going on at the Spuds

SSN are reporting Sunderland have bid for 4 of their players

  529. AndyB says:

Well Pat, they always try and copy us, so perhaps they are selling all their players too!

  530. Trindle says:

I agree that Eto’o would be a good Ade replacement (the club shop will have a real problem working out how much to charge for an apostrophe on replica shirts). But even by adding a good holding Midfielder and a reliable, tall CB, we still haven’t moved forward from the squad that gave up the ghost last season. Especially as our thin squad includes notable sick notes.

Now, where are the indigestion pills, I’ve just seen another picture of Hleb kissing his new badge …

  531. choy says:

trindle.. it is sick… kissing the new badge when you’ve just been there a day!!!

    anyways..

you guys are great company and this site rocks.. nothing new there!!!

nite all.. fridays are meant for signings!!!

    ARSENAL ARSENAL!!

  532. Trindle says:

Choy, I suppose it’s better than kissing the badge the day before you leave.

Andy, copying is exactly what they are doing. I take great comfort in the fact that at no time in the 45 and a bit years I’ve been on the planet, Spuds have not won the league.

  533. raif says:

Hello lads. and iv just checked the Fantsy League and OH MY GOD. theres shit loads of teams now. my confidence is dwindling. i just hope i finish somwere mid table

  534. ethangunner says:

I had a feeling bert would leave us, you heard it here 1st !

and good luck to the lad ! he played his heart out the last 2 or 3 games and showed us he was worth keeping another season imo .. not as a regular but as backup and valuable experience… But as ever once you’ve ‘reached the end of your arsenal life span’ in wengers opinion ,your are rudely ousted… surprising that the board have the bottle to preach loyalty in my opinion ! Unless they all expect loyalty to only count if your under 30 ! .. if so we need younger board members !
    :)

Well pedro – pat i agree 110% with your Eto’o selection , my only fear is having our
main striker as an African will mean every 2nd year we will have him going missing at vital stages of the season .. I think spending money on villa would be far better value .
Little difference in transfer fees – little difference in wages , if anything villa should be better value for money .. and younger ..

And more importantly dependable all season .. !

I cant help but feel when we get another striker due to ades imminent departure
that it will be in the style of a dudu style signing . Some little unknown international
with a reasonable goal conversion .. on an unproven stage .. a wenger buy ..

Wenger has never signed a known player …. can anyone think of one ?????
baptista was the closest he ever came to entertaining one .. rosicky maybe ..

    hmmm enough said :)

  535. ethangunner says:

Didnt i say denilson will go for the push ???
and knowing wenger he will give him a shot (like flamoney last season)
I sort of agree with this appointment also !
i think he is the most closest of all the kids coming thru ready to blossom !!!

I’M THE ONE NOW, INSISTS DENILSON

    STAYING ON: Denilson

    Friday July 18,2008
    By Frank Wiechula

DENILSON is a Gunners midfielder happy to buck the outgoing trend by committing his future to the club and winning trophies for Arsenal this season.

The Brazilian admits this is a big year for him, and no wonder. Fresh opportunities are presenting themselves almost daily, with the departures of midfield trio Mathieu Flamini (AC Milan), Alexander Hleb (Barcelona) and Gilberto Silva (Panathinaikos).

Denilson, 20, rejected a chance to join the high-profile exits, instead aiming to make a sustained first-team impact in his third season at The Emirates.

“I’m just focused on Arsenal, but I know some other clubs were looking at me,” said Denilson. “Last year I heard Barcelona wanted to buy me, but I really like it at Arsenal.

“For me this is the best team, it’s where I want to be. I want to show what I can do for Arsenal.”
(IM SURE THAT MIGHT CHANGE ONCE YOUR SUCCESSFUL THOU !)

Denilson made 23 appearances last term, but just four Premier League starts. However, after 42 outings since his £3.4million signing from Sao Paulo in August 2006, he feels now is his time.

& SO SAY WE ALL !

  536. ethangunner says:

there you go all you arshavin lovers , he’s another closet hleb …

‘My dream is Barca,’ Arshavin told Spain’s Sport newspaper. ‘But to say that isn’t new. The whole world knows that I have dreamed forever about going to Barca.

why bother with getting another potential what away !
fuck him ! merc cunt ! should join the ranks of ade – flamini – hleb ..

but he would be happy to play at arsenal ! sure you would until barca notices you and in the year 2009 then you will leave us as has others ..

    no fuck that !
strike that cunt from the shopping list !

  537. Geoff says:

AndyB no I didn’t know Barry’s agent was at the Grove yesterday, mmm interesting.

Ethan are you convinced that Denilson can step up? Some are saying the same for Diaby, they may well do a flamoany but I would still like to get an Alonso, Barry or Velosa, we need a lift as a team, as fans and to keep the RVP’s and Cesc’s happy.

  538. MorrowsBrokenArm says:

Barca can have him…that would also confirm Ade is fucked and would have to come crawling back to us because nobody else wants him (Braca yet to even bid for him anyways)…..where AW should then let him warm the bench all season.

    Last?

  539. Geoff says:

Sorry mate! I agree, he should spend a few months in the stiffs, let Bendtner have a go, Ade is a spoilt, up himself, ungrateful, disloyal cunt, and at the very least, should sack his agent.

He’ll give it large with the ‘I love the Arsenal fans’ shit, but I for one will boo the bastard.

  540. MorrowsBrokenArm says:

Im tellin ya…he’ll score in a big high pressure game and go running to the fans kissing his shirt…..wigan are looking to bid 9mil for Andy Johnson, mabes they will take Ade.

Dennis Bergkamp couldv’e been dropped in anytime and would still have been genius world class…..don’t think Ade would be banging in 30 goals if he was lining up for one of the smaller boys……Sunderland seem willing to pay silly money for anyone…lets shop him around see if we get any takers. Starting to think he really is going to stay. What a balls up. I think we should transfer list him for 24mil and see who wants him, he can wind up at some shite average club and realise how good he had it!

  541. MorrowsBrokenArm says:

i meant to say Dennis couldv’e been thrown into any TEAM.

  542. GunnerShabz says:

we need 2 more players at least, then i think we should be ok

we cant just let 3 players go and not replace them….. we need 2-3 players in may.

defensive midfielder and a central defender thats all

2 good quality players in them positions and we be ready

gareth barry, miqual velaso, ruben de la red, cristian zapata,

  543. Geoff says:

Ade is, was and always has been overrated, I like what he brings us, but he’s too up himself, I don’t care how many goals he scores now, I will never like him.

    He’s a cunt, full stop.

  544. MorrowsBrokenArm says:

Agreed…..i wouldn’t mind having Micah Richards on that list as well. But yes, i’d love to have any combination of those players and i think we’re looking good.

  545. GunnerShabz says:

we dont know if villa want £18m just because liverpool chatting shit or they want a realistic fiqure like £12m from someone else

    because if they want £18m

wenger will just go for miqual velaso, who is younger and ready to be world class

  546. Geoff says:

Guys you’ll love my todays post, it all about what you’re talking about!

  547. MorrowsBrokenArm says:

I see Dennis has been voted No.2 all time greatest on the afc SITE……NOOOOO. That means TH at no.1. I love Terry Henry, and he belongs in the top 3….but i think Tony Adams or DB should have been no.1. for me Big Tone

  548. MorrowsBrokenArm says:

looking forward to it Geoff….keep up the good work sir. I think all us goons are agreed that 30 goals or not…Ade has no place at our club. Yes I want to win, yes i want us to be competative…but i truly think we can do it without Ade….and its the principle…you dont piss on the club ive supported for 25 years, piss on the club you piss on me and everyone else who cheers your name wek in week out (and pays his so called shit wages)

  549. dennisdamenace says:

Fucking shite site (!), DB10 second best my arse, dennisdamence is not happy!!

  550. MorrowsBrokenArm says:

    DD;

Just remember some of the other names who made it in….Wiltord, Parlour (love ray but come on, top 50 greatest gooners of all time!!!!) This list was shite from the start…we all know DB deserve a top slot place.

  551. Pedro says:

Do you want it early today Grovers?

  552. dennisdamenace says:

Was there ever a more complete team player as DB10? TH14 would’ve been nothing without the master……………..grrrrr still nopt happy!!

  553. MorrowsBrokenArm says:

TH14 was and should always be remembered as one of our greats…..but Dennis just had something a little special, unique and i don’t recall us having to worry about him pissing off every summer….he had real loyalty to us….just like Tony Adama….which is why i wanted to see one of those two get it….bugger it though, this list is shite……anyone know who was voting anyway?

  554. ethangunner says:

yes i think denilson has defensive capabilities ,
he’s quick with an eye for a pass he will be a good future arsenal player ..im convinced (and im not often convinced :) ! )
i feel more confident of him than any other currently stepping up Geoff .. Diaby looks ok going forward but is pretty weak in defense He looks similar to PV-4 but thats where the defensive similarities end ! , diaby will just be a bit part player .. unless he gets some luck with injuries to regulars ..
Like pedro or you said the other day we got our wingers .. and cesc in the center of the park we are seriously short on DM ..someone to play the flamini role (id still buy one ) but i think wenger is looking for denilson to step up and slot in .. , so you might not see barry , you might find a signing that is below denilson or on par with him !

how can he be below denilson you say ?..

    good question :)
its all based on hope !!!!

    (arsene’s hope not mine )

  555. ikon says:

huntelaar will never work at emirates… too damn slow.

Perfect replacement is Vela with Ade on the bench the whole year.

  556. Pedro says:

    NEW POST!!!

  557. AlexM says:
