Something to get you excited / Ade off with Hleb

by & filed under Uncategorized.

I have written a happy post below. I normally write my stuff in the morning and as it has been a no news month I thought it would be a safe bet! Well… how wrong was I!

Arsenal are rumoured to be flogging Adebayor for £23million. If this is true, you would have to think it is becuase Ade has asked for £80k… Barca have offered £23million… and Arsene doesn’t believe in him. I point you towards a quote a cannot find so I will lossely base the below comments around a real life interview I read on Arsenal.com…

‘If you’d have told me Ade would score 30 goals at the start of the seaosn, I would not have believed you. I did not think half. He has been tremedous’.

I think the fact that most Arsenal fans are happy with the sort of cash on offer says a lot. Are we becoming too dependent on long balls to Ade, does he fit in with Arsenal football, can he replicate his form, is Wenger about to mug Barca for the 5th time?

Only time will tell, but I hope this is the last of the exits and I hope the replacement is Villa/Eto’o/Somebodyworldclass… becuase Cesc is going to wonder what the hell is going on otherwise! As are the fans!

Onto my original post… enjoy and remember I wrote it yesterday!

I thought Geoff was being gross when he said he’d put Seaman in my Cake

So it’s my Birthday… yes it’s the longest day of the year (Summer solstice)… Yes my mum says I am special because of it… but you all knew that anyway right?

Just kidding.

So how can I relate this to Arsenal and make you all as happy as I am today? Well… let’s compare how we felt last year, to how we feel now!

Start every sentence with ‘A year ago…

  • I was confidently predicting Thierry Henry would not be moving clubs, he was a massive Gooner… no way would he leave! A year on… we have a new striker who has scored 30 goals who I am confidently going to predict wont leave!
  • If you’d told me Ade would score 30 goals, I would have laughed you out of town and probably called you a very bad word.
  • Usmanov sounded like a Ukrainian Left back Chelsea were going to sign for £20million. Now he is Arsenal’s biggest shareholder!
  • Dein was untouchable… Now he is the Chelsea left backs bitch.
  • Ronaldo was a Manc cunt… A year on he is a Madrid Cunt.
  • We were skint… A year on… we’re still skint.
  • Hleb was crap. Many Gooner sites wanted him out. A year on, Hlebs agent wants him out!
  • Flamini was an average player who had no chance at the first team. Now he is plying his trade as Milan’s left back.
  • We all thought Willy G would be leaving and Gilberto would be our new captain. A year later, Willy G is our Captain and Berto might be off!
  • We thought Eboue was our weak point and we would never replace Lauren. Now we have the best right back in the prem.
  • We thought Cesc was a true gooner, now we know he is!
  • We thought we’d struggle next season. Now we know we are very close!
  • We thought RvP was going to set the Prem on fire… Now we know he was planning it this season instead!
  • We doubted Clichy’s fitness. Now we know he was the only player to complete 50 games for us.
  • We didn’t really have any hope… now we have hope by the bucket load!

It’s not so bad chaps, with the right signings and a bit of luck… we could be immense this season!

Have a ripping Day!

BB the game plan is not have the ridiculously bad luck that we did this season! We very very very nearly won the title, and got close in the champs league, despite having horrific luck with injuries, refereeing decision etc. We collapsed at the end, that won’t happen again. We’ve signed or are about to sign an incredibly talented player in nasri, who will bolster the squad (and he was also a signing before hleb was going to leave, he isn’t a replacement). On top of the squad that nearly won the title, we have Vela, Nasri, and I consider Walcott, Bendtner, Denilson, Rosicky, VP the equivalent of new signings, as last year they were injured or completely raw. Last season being Theo and Bend’s first real season they weren’t like a whole squad player for me, now they’ve got a season under their belt they will be able to hold their own, as they showed at the end of last season. Hleb if he leaves will be a big loss and it’ll be interesting to see who we replace him with. Adebayor leaving will make no real difference to the first team, but takes away a very useful plan B. Neither of them have left yet though and if they do leave we’ve got no idea who will be brought in to replace them (if anyone) so we can’t think about that yet. As it stands with them both at the club we have an incredibly strong squad, a good amount better than last year, and considering how close we were last year we should do it this year. We will also bring in more reinforcements, even if Hleb and Ade leave

People say Utd and Chelsea will improve too but I’m not so sure. Utd (ignoring the ronaldo talk) will have a hard job replacing scholes and Giggs. Anderson looks good, and Nani won’t ever be good enough to replace giggs, as well as their experience and impact on the dressing room. Chelsea could improve the way they play etc, but there will be a period of transition, it’ll take a while for Scolari to implement his ways, and see whether South American methods work in the prem

  2. GMR

rico, Wenger will sign players on August 31st as always. He seems to think you get them cheaper then & thats probably true as any players still looking for a move on the final day are generally the ones no other team wants.

I hate it that people keep talking about Nasri (not just on here but other blogs as well) like he has already signed. Arsenal have had since May to sort out a deal with Nasri & despite agreeing one with Marseille they still haven’t managed to get him signed up. The longer this goes on the less likely it is he’ll become an Arsenal player.

What is really frustrating me right now is the apparent attitude of Wenger. Instead of taking care of club business he’s out at the Euro’s earning himself some pocket money. I wouldn’t care if he sorted out next season’s squad but its clear thats far from settled. He made a big statement to the fans about how reassured we’d be with his signings which he’d make within 3 weeks & yet several weeks later we’re still waiting. It seems he can speak to French people & let their journalists know things but he cannot even take the time to let the Arsenal fans know whats going on. Have the deals he had in mind collapsed or has something else come up etc?? Its not really that difficult to let us all know is it!! But then why should he, after all we’re only the mugs that shed out cash each season to watch HIS kids play!!

  3. A

Rico, Nordveit is a fair bit away from being ready to even be a squad player, he’s very raw. Rogers will never make it, likewise Gavin Hoyte

  4. BB

rico .. you think we have a remote chance of getting Yaya?? dont think so
we just sell players.. bloody useless today .. no good news out for us..
    Wenger cant be that stupid

  5. A

GMR you honestly think he’s at the Euros because of pocket money?! What he’ll get paid there would be a drop in the sea. He’s either already sorted out deals and is just waiting to complete deals after the Euros, or is waiting for players who are playing in the Euros/on holiday, or is scouting players at the Euros because he hasn’t decided who he wants to sign yet, or is waiting to see what happens with players leaving before deciding who his targets should be. Why would there be a need for him to let us know, I’d much rather not know and not threaten deals. To make out he’s got a shit attitude is plain stupidity. He does everything he can in an attempt to do what is best for the club, Arsenal football club is his life, and his legacy, whatever you think of him in terms of his judgement he makes every decision for the good of the club. His responsibility is the club, not the fans, and any fan with a modicum of intelligence would understand and respect that, likewise for the good of the club

  6. BB

A.. losing 4-2 at Pools wasnt bad luck .. it was incompetence ..
I agree that Nasri is not a replacement for Hleb .. it is for Cesc next season WHEN and not IF Cesc leaves.. btw Nasri hasnt signed yet.. I am 100% with GMR on this one..
we are sending out the worst signals in the world as far as our standing as a top club is concerned
we are fast becoming the BIGGEST FEEDER CLUB IN THE WORLD
buy a top star and make statement to the world
we are losing the plot and Wenger is basking in his own glory in the Euros
    fukking useless

  7. Arse&Nose

Wenger rates Bendtner higher than Ade, but what Ade has done is down to sheer hard work so credit must be given to him for that.

Ade has stated before that football is all about money, if he was not playing for money he would be playing in Togo-those were his words.

If he thinks he can get more money elsewhere than good luck to him, it is an entirely different case than Hlebs because Ade is not a greedy person, he sends most of his earnings back home to build schools and facilities for the village he grew up in, if he thinks a move can help him build an extra school or hospital out there than who am i to judge him.

  8. Pedro

    Afternoon Grovers!

What has been going on? Have we signed Zidane and Pele yet?

Any news on the ade story…!

  9. A

BB we’ve as good as signed Nasri, trust me. He isn’t a replacement for Cesc, he isn’t a replacement for anyone. He’ll just be a third player in the Rosicky/Hleb/Pires mould that will have a roaming wing mode, and mean there will be less of an impact should Ros or Hleb be injured. He’ll never play centrally in england, just like pires never did, and modric wont

  10. GMR

A, there you go again with your little digs just because I’m not going to lick Wenger’s arse. As I said he’s out there earning pocket money.

You lost all credibility when you said his responsibility is to the club not the fans. Without the fans there is no club & anyone with a modicum of intelligence would understand that!!

  11. A

Little digs? Arsene Wenger does not need the money, and is getting paid fuck all to be at the Euros, taking those facts into account saying that he’s out there to earn pocket money is nothing short of stupidity surely?

  12. Geoff

Bollocks if he’s doing that it because when he goes back he’ll be made King. He signed a fucking contract so he should honour it the greedy cunt.

If not we should shove him in the stiffs for a year, we don’t need the money, we need to stand up to these greedy ungrateful bastards, football is going down the shitter and we’re letting it.

Ronaldo says he’ll make a decision on his carreer in two days, someone needs to say, no you won’t, you have a contract and you’re staying here for the next 3 years.

If Wenger and Fergie stood up to these ingrates it would stop. If they don’t it all becomes pointless signing a contract, we’ll never feel players are ours.

  13. Pedro

    Arse&nose…

Most footballers do loads of work for charity… it’s tax deductible…

Ade is just as greedy as the rest of them…

Imagine how much you could do with 40k a week in togo! You could build a city with a weeks wages!

I respect what he does for his home country but at the end of the day… when you have that much money and that much free time, it is your duty.

  14. rico01

A – totally disagree with you re all three you think wont make it – and i dont think Denilson is good enough for us, he is another one who lacks pace.

GMR – you are right, Nasri has not signed, and i couldn,t give two hoots if he doesnt, I hope that AW forgets him if he has fucked us about and go for Arta and Arshavin, the latter has said he wants a change of team and wants to come to Europe. Both a bit older with experience. Both too have had good Euros….

The Yaya think BB, If all is to be believed about Barca and Hleb/Ade, we may have a chance if they really want them both, if Yaya says he wants to leave Barca, then it would have to be in their interest to let him go and havent they bought another player in the same position – fingers are crossed on this one

Why is it we pretty much all agree on who needs to be bought, but AFC cant, maybe this week will bring some news, when Spain and Turkey get knocked out. We will have to wait until after the final for the Arse Shavin monster if he is coming to us….!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ;)

  15. A

His responsibility to the fans is to do his best to entertain and bring success to the club, not to cater for fickle petty fans who want gossip for the sake of gossip regardless of whether it could cause deals to fall through

  16. GMR

A, I don’t want gossip as is clear from all the comments I’ve made. I want to see him taking action & thats an entirely different thing.

Where have I said he should name the players he’s after?? Of course you won’t be able to find that comment because I’ve never said it. However I really don’t think its difficult for him to let fans know that the deals he is working on are progressing or if he has decided against what he was going to do etc.

  17. Arse&Nose

Geoff , I think managers are frightened of standing up to players, because every time a firm stand has been made they take the issue to court, and thats where you get Bosman and Webster rulings.

Basically players do not care so much about the future of football as their careers are short, managers do care because their older, wiser, in for the long haul which is why managers are scared of damaging the game by pushing players.

  18. rico01

A – the reason we all want the bloody news is because AW told us about five weeks ago he would have signed three players and we fans would be happy..

Had he not have said that, I wouldnt be so frustrated with him.

His responsibility is to get the right players in our club, get them to play good football and win the EPL/CL or both – that my friend will keep the fans happy, the same fans, as i have said before, pay stupid money, through shite weather to support a team we love.

The rest of the board should woryy about all the other things, not the manager…

    IMHO

  19. Geoff

GMR Wenger doesn’t get paid, he doesn’t need money, he buys all his shopping before it’s grown, the little he does get, he gives back to Arsenal as he doesn’t want them to go bust.

It’s more important commentating at the Euros than worrying about Arsenal or the fans that hang on his every word, he has no respect for us I’m afraid, he can’t have can he?

  20. Geoff

Arse&nose they can’t take us to court, a contract is a contract, they can buy out the last year but only if they are over 28, I think.

We’ll lose all our talent unless we stand up to the and 20 odd years is quite a long career especially when they earn what they do.

  21. GMR

rico, well said. You’ll probably have just joined me as a petty fickle fan, us Arsenal fans tend to be like that as opposed to fans of the manager who don’t give a toss about the club & will no longer support the team once the god has left.

  22. rico01

    Here here Geoff

Its like Agents – their player employs them, not the other way around

The contract binds them to the club for a period of time, and only when both parties agree can a player go. Not by player demand. Reminds me of Le Sulk, well I pray both Hleb and Ades career nose dive like his if they want out.

  23. BB

A.. Nasri is NOT a winger .. he is far too slow .. he is a central player .. either a 10 or behind the strikers.. have you ever seen him??
as MON said yesterday after the Euro game, the clubs have lost all their powers
its 110% player power now .. btw he didnt sound very happy .. as you can imagine
I am fed up that we get raided year after year by the same dickheads
why cant we do the same??

  24. Paulinho

The problem I have with Wenger going away to these events is that he is surrounded by people that think he is an untouchable genius and his methods uphold some bygone era of high moral standards. All this shit gets wedged in his brain and slowly he loses clarity in regards to our problems. He effectively erases his hard drive of the previous season and basically turns back into the Wenger of 2005, when this youngster stuff first started. He doesn’t seem to learn anything or act on evidence obvious to everyone.

  25. Pedro

Petty fickle fans clearly don’t enjoy the club looking like it is on the brink of implosion…

Would Google or General Electric allow so many negative stories run about them without retort?

If it looks bad to us… it looks bad to players. It’s simple.

We don’t expect Arsene to gossip, but we expect him to defend us against these stories.

That is fair for £5million a year.

  26. Arse&Nose

Geoff, there is nothing stopping a greedy agent and selfish player from taking his contract to the EU and calling it a breach of human rights. In every single other form of employment people are free to move from one company to another, if they challenge hard enough they will win. Football will become more like big city financial businesses.

  27. BB

pedro.. far from defending us, I believe that his own attitude encourages other clubs to resort to the type of behaviour that they do
he is offering a weak side for others to attack us

  28. rico01

GMR – well i am honoured to join the fickle fan club, the club i loved even under Bruce Rioch – actually i should not say bad things agains Brucie, he bought DB….

AW was a great manager, and still will be if he doesnt fuck up this summer, but we will still be chanting long after he has gone…….

When does Guus/Bilic contracts come to an end……. ;)

  29. GMR

I hope Arsenal are deducting Wenger’s wages whilst he’s off working for French or Arabic Tv or whoever the hell it is. If the TV companies are keeping him so busy that he couldn’t even be bothered to get his arse back to London the weekend before last to meet Aaron Ramsey & his family it shows what a poor second Arsenal FC are coming to his beloved commentary work!!

  30. rico01

Thats all we ask Pedro, AW to come out, as Fergie did when RM started talking about Ronnie, use SSN’s to make a point, tell Barca or any other club not to bother as xyz are not for sale. Dont just sit on your Arse (ne) put the headphones down and defend our club – or if you are too busy, get one of the board members to do it…..

Get old Sir Chips or Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith on the news, tell Barca to piss off Nina!!

  31. Arse&Nose

Wenger has class rico, he isnt going to come out and mumble incoherently like Fergie the drunk. What has Fergie achieved by coming out in the press anyway?Ronaldo has just confirmed he wants to leave, so Fergies drunk mumbling didnt work one bit.

  32. Gunner8

Rogers is fairly shite (remember him getting loads of stick at Barnet last year), Gavin Hoyte is a prospect and much tougher and bigger than Justin

  33. rico01

Well, i have made contact with AFC and asked why the players have not been signed as promised, should i get a reply, i will let you all know – in the meantime, please do not hold your breath.. ;)

  34. Abdenor

Hi Grovers – Happy birth day Pedro, have a good one mate!

No Martins please, he’s rubbish, he’s a poor man’s D.Bent ffs, i know it’s only speculation but am really angry we are being linked with him.

  35. rico01

Oh well, have a family to feed etc, have a good evening Grovers, Russia to beat Holland 2-1 or 3-2 tonight….

Still RvP will get a good rest if I am right,

    ta ta for now

  36. Abdenor

ARSHAVIN……. or Arse-shaving , wichever way you want to call him , get him !

    He’s a proper player, a complete footballer !

    Arshavin will kick aaaaaaaaaaaaassss….. :)

  37. Evo in Oz

Wenger did come out – he said kleb has a contract and cannot go! done and dusted, where is kleb now? still with us last time i checked!

  38. Pedro

Arse&nose… If we sell our world class players… and buy in world class players, no one will be that upset (Arshavin clearly demonstrating his world class pedigree).

If we sell Ade, Hleb and Flamini (I know we didn’t sell him) and promote from within… we will be annoyed.

We would have effectively become a production line for Europes big hitters.

We should be in the same league as Barca and Madrid.

Evo… nothing has changed… but it is the clubs responsibility to refute claims made against it. How long does it take to post up a press release?

It is not like we’re asking Arsenal to respond to speculation, we are asking Arsenal to respond to agent and player claims.

ManU have consistently come out and denied the Ronaldo stories… Why can’t Arsenal reassure their customers?

  39. Pedro

Yeah… but Wenger said Henry was categorically not leaving June last year… That we’d sign 3 players in 3 weeks… We’d keep Flamini…

Holding Wenger to his word is risky business.

  40. Evo in Oz

yeah agreed, but i reckon that Man scum are in the same boat with ronaldae right now, so i can only imagine there fans!

  41. Arse&Nose

Pedro I agree 100%, every season we sell World Class players and replace them with youth, I would even go as far as to say Nasri is unproven at the highest level.

    We have two options

    1) keep our star players
    2) if we have to sell, replace them with players EQUAL to them, not potentially good KIDS.

    ps. happy bday!

  42. Evo in Oz

I think wenger said his no.1 plan was to keep the team together = 1) keep our star players

however, its not everyday you get an offer of 25 mil for one of your players you only paid 3mil for

  43. Pedro

    Cheers!

You are on the money there.

Nasri has no pedigree. Ok, so he played well at Marseille for a couple of seasons, but that doesn’t mean anything in my eyes. He is only 20, the same age as Bendtner. How much can we expect from him straight away?

If we said no to Ade, and made him stay… what will he do? Putting a case through the European court of law takes forever. Footballers will not get a priority hearing. So what will he do? Rot for a year and play reserve team football?

No way… we say no… he’ll carry on playing.

We should at least try it anyway? Waste £35k a week for a year… but save us loads in losing great players.

Hleb we should get shot of though… his value will only drop.

  44. Pedro

Rico… they’ve got someone new looking after them for a couple of weeks!

The cheap skates didn’t get me a thing!

Check out the funnies to see what my lady friend did for me! She hates Le Grove… so it was quite sweet of her!

  45. rico01

Oh No – i bet you miss them,

Not even a couple of wrapped up bumbles – tight indeed, i am off to check out the funnies

  46. Pedro

For the Ade leaving non believers:

    Milan Fixer (Transfers, not matches)

“Let’s say the possibilities are fifty fifty,” Bronzetti told Radio Radio.

“It all depends on Adebayor but the thing is, Arsenal want to sell him to Barcelona and I have already heard they have agreed a deal with the player.

“I know that Laporta wants to show the world he can bring in a great player but they can’t unless they sell Ronaldinho and Eto’o.

“I advise Milan to wait a little as they could get those two players on the cheap.”

  47. Big Raddy

Having just read Ronaldo’s ‘come and get me’ statement. I look forward to seeing whether the MU stance of ‘we will let him rot in the reservs’ actually happens.

My bet…… they will take the money, and bottle it

  48. A

I just don’t get the arsene being at the Euro’s being a problem chat. It’s ridiculously irrational anti-Wenger with no justification! Many club managers are there scouting players, as they said on five live yesterday regarding Steve Mclaren – the managers working for tv companies are just getting paid to scout the players they’d be there watching anyways. It doesn’t prevent how well he serves the club, it’s two hours a day. People pointing to the fact he didn’t fly back for the Ramsey signing is silliness too. Ramsey was flown out to France to see him, Fergie wasn’t even willing to pop back from his holiday nor fly him out, which is a big reason why he picked us over Utd.

Arsene said he was going to sign two or three players we’d be very happy with, and was planning to do most of the business in the next 2/3 weeks (so before the Euros). Nasri is one signing I’m very happy with, yes BB i have seen him play numerous and he’ll play as a roaming winger, exactly the same as Hleb and Rosicky. Other signings could also be close to being wound up but just havn’t been leaked unlike with Nasri. They wouldn’t publicise being in talks with said players either as that could result in other clubs coming in for said players and embarrassment if they don’t end up signing (like with Utd and Ramsey)

Nasri has had a couple of seasons at the top level in France, and done very well there, so although he’s the same age as Bendtner he’s much older in match experience. However I’m sure it’ll be like with Pires, and will take him a season to properly adapt and take the Prem by storm, that’s why he’s been signed to replace Rosicky permanently in a year.

Does anyone know if there’s seeding in the Champs league qualifiers, or can we be drawn against Mcclaren’s Twente?

  49. A

I agree Raddy, whatever Fergie and the Glazer’s say I’m sure they wouldn’t be as stupid as to let Ronaldo rot in the reserves, other than the fact that if he isn’t playing they’d want the prospective money to spend on replacements he seems like the sort of egotistical nobber who would cause massive disruption in the dressing room if made to stay against his will

  50. BB

A.. so far we have been linked with more players leaving us than joining
hence Wenger schmusing with Van Persie now that he has to prepare him that we will sell Ade .. see Pedro’s comments ..
just wonder what Hleb is saying to all this
we were short players last year .. its looking even worse now that we will lose 3 of our top performers
where is the continuity that Wenger advocated..where is the team spirit?? .. my arse.. thats where it is
its a sign of club that is not progressing ..we are going nowhere under Wenger anymore.. FACT!!
and stop saying that Nasri has joined us.. wait until he signs..which might be never

  51. Pedro

Raddy, I think there is a difference with ManU.

They make £70million… or £25million if he spends a year in the reserves (With the Credit Crunch and looming recession, you’d have to think his price would drop even lower) + he earns £130k a week already… that is a lot of cash to make a point.

With Ade… he is worth £23mill now… he is on £35k a week. If we make him rot, the cost isn’t that high… no one will want him next year and we will have made a point.

A… if Wenger was over there and we were getting updated on the state of our squad, I don’t think people would mind.

The fact he is over there talking about other teams players… while his own players are starting a rebellion… well, it gets on your nerves a bit.

Where do his responsibilities lie. With the fans… or Canal+?

All we ask is that we be kept in the loop and that our club is perceived as strong.

‘Silence is the virtue of fools.’

Sir Francis Bacon (I am such a cunt… haha!).

  52. A

Unless we get less points next seaon we are going places – constantly improving! We were short last year, but if Utd or Chelsea had had the same injury luck I’m sure they would have finished behind us, and we’re in a much stronger position this season. As discussed on here before the transfer gossip/links etc are fun, but have no real truth in them. The reality is we’ve got one addition to the playing squad in Vela, 99% signed one more in Nasri, and lost one in Flamini. I believe 100% the Flamini wouldn’t have been first choice throughout this season anyways, like Ade he did a necessary job and had a great but fluke season, again like Ade he doesn’t have the talent to play regularly season in season out for a top team.

People need to differentiate between gossip and fact, if the gossip in the tabloids isn’t to everyone’s liking (which it never will be as the majority of the tabloids are horrifically anti-arsenal), then complain about the papers! As it is we’ve got one definite additional player, one very nearly definite additional player, and lost one player, who was far from a fundamental member of the team, everything else is rumour and speculation.

  53. A

The point is though Pedro there is no rebellion, if there was anything to be said about the squad, in terms of additions or players leaving, then he’d say, but there isn’t! His responsibility lies with the club, not the fans, nor the TV channel, which as said he only spends 2 hours talking about a match that he would have been watching anyways. Wenger is currently working (for the tv channel, and the club) whilst fergie is taking a long holiday….

We can’t be kept in the loop, if the club announced everytime it made an approach for a player it would piss off the club we were approaching, alert other clubs that the player could be available, result in embarrassment if the club failed to sign said player, as well as potentially be deemed to be tapping up!

  54. BB

    A..what about Hleb and Ade??
Cesc says that Hleb is essential at Arsenal
    and Hleb wants to leave
and Ade.. was he a marginal player as well last season?? 30 golas..why does every team want to sign him??
why are you so certain that Flam would have been a part time guy next season..why??
you are delusional..you cannot substantiate anything you say .. not even Nasri’s transfer
    talk about facts..

  55. Pedro

A… don’t knock idle gossip… we linked Nasri on the 31st of December (On our own)… now look what is happening (See ya Rowley)!

I disagree with you… his responsibility is to the fans, he always says it. That is why he plays beautiful football… to entertain the fans.

He is the spokes person for the club. He should be telling our PR to deny stories. Only the stories that have quotes though.

Hey… he is quick enough to come out and deny an incoming player isn’t he? He has told us twice Kompany isn’t coming!

There is a rebellion, where have you been! Flamini has left, Hleb wants to leave and now Ade is on the verge!

27% of our first team want out! That is a rebellion!

  56. Patrick7

BB – You’ re such a pessimist! Fact is we improved lots last season: lots more points and nearly won the EPL; bar injuries to our fox in the box, we would have!
Fact: AW is gradually upgrading the team. If he loses a player we normally get a better replacement.

Flamini would have had a new contract if he had shown last season’s form previously but he held out on us (as he couldn’t lose financially) and eventually made a min t with a move out. We will replace him with someone who is more skilful: watch.

Hleb is wanted for his skill-factor but we know his faults: scoring and assists but he does pull opposing players out of position. If he goes Nasri will replace him. If not Nasri will be a valuable asset to our squad and give some of the front line a rest.

Adebayor is wanted but if he persists with the 80K/week wants or £23 is offered and he wants out AW will use NB for the arial attack or another to be decided. Ade is not the best first touch attacker and has other flaws so again with that sort of money we can do better.

I’m still waiting for the DMF and CB and maybe Shay Given though!

  57. A

I agree Pedro, but his responsibility to the fans is to provide success, ensure the future of the club, and entertain – not to justify and respond to gossip mongering by the tabloids for the sake of the fans who seem to think our press are simply neutral reporters giving us the inside news based on fact…. We don’t know whether Hleb wants to leave, the only time he’s actually spoken to the anyone he’s attacked the papers claiming he wants to leave, that’s the only info we’ve actually got from him! Ade hasn’t said he wants to leave either, and if he does go it’s because we’ve got an offer we’ve decided we want to accept, not because he’s a star player who’s taken matters into his own hands and demanded a transfer!

Nasri himself has said he’s 99% an arsenal player, Marseille have announced that he’s flown to london to complete the deal, he’s as good an arsenal player!

And wenger hasn’t come out to deny players coming in, it’s from specific questions he’s been asked, he’s also said Hleb and Ade aren’t going, but a week later people forget it, you can’t expect him to come out and say it weekly as the papers just ignore him saying it so that the gossip can continue and they cal sell more papers

  58. Pedro

Patrick… I don’t think you can categorically say that had Eduardo not been assaulted, we would have won the league?

If our confidence is that fragile… it needs addressing.

Like my post said… we are in a much better position than we were last year… but a lot of that is dependent on players staying.

    I don’t agree with your… a player leaves, a better comes in…

    Pires
    Henry
    Campbell
    Freddie
    Lehmann (At his peak)

Those guys have not been replaced with better players… if they had been… we’d have more than 3rd place to show for last year.

On Flamini… he was not offered a new contract last summer… he would have signed it if he had been…

  59. Pedro

    A…

He said Henry wasn’t leaving, Paddy wasn’t leaving… Freddie wasn’t leaving (I know we didn’t care, but its a point all the same).

It also depends what you class as a fact.

We told you 4 days before Arsenal.com Flamini had left and he was a Milan player. That was a fact. A fact not commented on till working week later.

More facts… Hleb has stated he wants to leave… Ade’s agent has said he is discussing a move… Ade has said wait and see.

Both Facts. Idle gossip is ‘a source close to’ or ‘an insider’.

  60. GunnerShabz

well it looks like barca may have hleb and adebayor

£35m deal probarly u never know

but if this is going ahead, we need to sort out the team

i dont know who he is going to buy, but we need to deal with it quickly

  61. A

Our confidence was only so fragile because we were already struggling without Rosicky and VP, and had been all season, Eduardo’s injury and the last minute pen was the hair that broke the camel’s back.

I’d say Hleb is much better than Freddie was in the last couple of years, Clichy replaced Cole, Cesc replaced Vieira, but that is true Pires, Henry, Campbell, Jens don’t have replacements who are at the same level. They were amongst the best in the world though so it’s very hard to replace them. All five of them left when they were on the way down, the only way we could have replaced them is from within, such as Clichy and Cesc with Cole and pv4, or through having sold them all two years earlier at their peak, and not enjoyed the success we did with them. VP was and is hopefully gonna replace the levels of Henry, Rosicky Pires, Gallas (actually was considered world class when we got him) replacing Campbell, Fab expected to replace Jens. None of them have happened yet, but Fav, VP, and Rosicky if develop/stay fit still could

  62. Patrick7

I did say we normally get a better replacement: Henry for Anelka etc. Clichy for Cole, Sagna………..AW does move players out when he believes they are too injury prone or over the hill and TH’s last season was proof of that. Lehmann is still to be replaced but was our No2 last season. BP I can’t defend but Freddie was definitely not as effective and was more injured than playing (and 30ish).

Gallas has not proved to be as great as we thought which is why I keep saying we need a CB ………..

  63. GunnerShabz

just hope he aint going to replace these players with unknown

david villa, andrei andvasin, arda turan, samir nasri, raul abiol

  64. El Tel

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY PEDRO

Many thanks for giving us Gooners our own Cyber pub.

Your comment this mornng about the young players seeing wealth and fame reminds me of my Beckham rants. Not only is that posuer the biggest show off in the world but he was also the red nosed ones spy.

Our players must have seen close up the razzmatazz and all thought I want this.

Silly move from our great fantastic brilliant Manager.

Apparently he’s allowing him back this year too. Fool.

  65. patthegooner

But this is my problem with the squad A

The last few seasons we have had injuries that have left us playing CM in Wide Positions and having to revert to an unfamiliar 4-5-1 as all our strikers are injured.

And every Summer we have begged that add some strength to the squad to be able to cope.

The player you mention RVP could become a replacement, but sorry he will never be better than Henry, his proneness to injuries will see to that.

    The others

Rosicky to replace Pires (again injuries will see that he never will)
Gallas to replace Campbell (Gallas is on the decline)
Fab to replace Jens (We need it now, not in 4 years time)
Hleb on Ljungberg (forget Freddies last year, Hleb has not and will not come close)

And Vieira and Bergkamp, sorry they have never been replaced.

We have stripped experience and swapped it in the main with potential, and in my mind that can be a good thing but we have got the balance of experience Vs Youth wrong

Replacing from within is not the only option, there is a thing called a transfer window where you can buy replacements for declining players.

  66. Pedro

A… saying Arsenal struggled without RvP and Rosicky is like me saying I’m struggling without a million quid… I’ve never had a million quid… just like we rarely have a fit RvP or Rosicky!

Great players don’t let broken legs upset them… for 13 games!

I am talking about replacing them when they were in their prime… when we were winning trophies.

Cesc hasn’t replaced Paddy… Paddy was 2 players, he’ll never be replaced. Hleb will never replace the goals of Freddie and no one has come close to being able to lace Bobbys boots (Fingers crossed for Nasri).

Patrick… Clichy, Sags, Cesc and RvP are the only players who would give the invincibles a run for their money.

Thank El Tel… it is a pleasure that you occupy this space! I remember your Beckham rants… Geoff loved them!

  67. GMR

Some people seem to like talking shite. If Man Utd or Chelski had suffered our injury problems last year!! whilst totally ignoring the fact that both teams had suffered major injuries most of last season. Chelski were without nearly their entire defence for a time, Saha has barely played a game, neither did Neville & Scholes missed months I could go on but if people want to arse lick Wenger & listen to every word he says without checking things for themselves thats their problem.

Seen as Wenger only does 2 hours work why couldn’t he fly back?? If signing Ramsey was such a big deal for him he hardly acted like it, by making him fly out to meet the great Arsene.

Love the comparison with Ferguson by the way. How dare Ferguson have a long holiday after such a useless season. The way Sir Alex is acting anyone would think they won the league & CL. He should be making the major improvements to his squad rather than us as our squad is the best. I know this to be true cos Wenger said so!!

  68. rico01

Anyone watching the match then – pretty even me thinks, Arshavin is pretty good again, VDS is having a good game – And where the F is RvP…..

  69. Abdenor

Evening all & Rico – Can someone please tell me why is Kuyt in the ahead of RVP in the Dutch team?

every man, his dog and mistress know that Van Persie is the superior player!

  70. Rhyle

On the BBC website they’re reporting (second hand) that Eto’o failed a medical this week – which makes sense with the reports of him and Lewin being seen together at the Emirates.

  71. rico01

In relation to injuries, I do think the Dudu injury had a big effect on Hleb, he looked the same colour as The Hulk, shame he didnt have the strenght of him too. I think he thought, shit that could have been me and now wants out of England – Well wake up Hleb, tackles like that happen in any country, and in any league!

And I agree, we are all now used to not seeing Thomas, RvP, Diaby all season, this needs sorting out – the only freak injury was Dudu, who had just began to find his feet. I know we all think Ade and Nik should have scored more, but we shouldnt have conceeded at least a third of what we did – And yes that needs sorting out to – most of us know what we would do, AW needs to do it this summer or, again as previously said, no decent player will want to come to AFC – and the thought of that, is what really hurts…..

Forget the possibilty of Nasri signing, as said, he aint yet and I would rather AW gets on and sorts Arda or Arshavin, or someone with such a footballing brain and ability. We have enough youth in Vela, Theo, Barazite, Diaby, Wilshere, Nordveit, Ramsey etc etc – what we need is experience and proven ability…

  72. rico01

Evening Abdenor – you been in hiding??

Arshavin is just perfect for us….. what worries though is that he can shoot, would he fit in…… ;)

  73. GMR

Pedro, what do you mean its good to have me back I didn’t go anywhere, I’ve been here all day!! lol

Abdenor, I was thinking the same thing. Its a shame for Holland that Robben is injured again because him & RVP are easily the best dutch players.

Its been a fairly poor game really.

  74. Abdenor

    Rhyle – link please?

Agreed Rico …Injuries definitely hurt us last especially RVP!

You’re damn right he’d fit in….. He reminds a lot of DB10 but with pace.

  75. patthegooner

Rhyle is this what you thought was the story on Etoo failing a Medical

Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o has not passed a medical at Emirates Stadium prior to a proposed move to Arsenal, according to his agent. (setantasports.com, 1226 BST)

If so, it is not that he failed one, there never was one

  76. Abdenor

That’s why he should be on from the start ……. I am we would’ve won something last season had he not been injured!

  77. Gunner8

Arse-shavin is pretty spectacular as is the Russian stikrer and AKinfeev

The player that impresses me most is (whoa Van Persie) is the Dutch no.8 Engelaar he is a solid DM who can get forward and is a big fucking giant! who does he play 4?

  78. GMR

Abdenor, yeah I’d have Eto over Villa. Villa is clearly a terrific striker but I think Eto’s game is much more suited to us than Villa’s.

  79. Abdenor

This game desperately needs a goal, i thought it’ll be the best game of the tournament but i was wrong. :(

  80. david

If Milan bid £25 million for Ade and so did Barca Why are Arsenal trying to steer the player to Spain unless there is something in it for Arsenal.

Arsene wants a Barca player he admires Eto’o and he already turned down Yaya when he was cheap..

  81. GMR

Agreed his injuries would be a concern but then players like Bendtner, Vela & even Walcott in a striking role need some playing time. As long as the injuries aren’t long term its not so bad. From memory he has only had one serious injury at Barca.

Just read an article about Arshavin by Erik Hagen, he doesn’t seem like the type of player you’d want at the club.

    http://www.soccervoice.com/n080694.htm

  82. GMR

Yeah I know that, but it was all the stuff about him not turning up for training when he was supposed to so he could hang out with ‘beautiful girls’. As a bloke I can admire that behaviour, but as a player I don’t think I’d be too happy him taking the p*** like that & its that sort of thing Wenger refuses to sign players for.

  83. rico01

Its difficult to say which team for a win – I think Russia, but wabt RvP to go on and win something – but I want him also to have a good rest, if Russia get beat though, Arses price wont get as high as it might, and I want Van De Sar and Horse face to win F-All,

Hope that makes sense…. Im bored!!

  84. Abdenor

Point taken GMR, if he’s not commited to Arsenal then he can stay where he is…..

The Dutch are pushing for an equaliser.

  85. rico01

Choose one – Arshavin or some Nasri kid (who aint signed for us!)

    Arshavin all the way……………..

  86. Abdenor

The Dutch should be dead & burried by now ………………… Russians not clinical enough . just like us.

  87. Abdenor

Maybe it’s not the Russians day, Come on!

Sorry RVP, i want you to have a good rest in the summer…… we need you fit next season.

  88. patthegooner

What a great decision by the ref, really refreshing

    Good game to watch

I would take any of Arse-shavin, Van der Vaart or Snjider at Arsenal

  89. BB

well done ref.. also Van Persie is and has always been shiit on the wing..
    he needs to be central
    good game..great to watch
    change from last nite
bring on Eto’o.. he would be perfect for us

  90. El Tel

    Abdenor and Rico

How much more rest can RVP need. I think the oppossite, he should be flying at the seasons start if he gets a few games in. Years ago when we played up the park we ran for hours a day.

I hate the Mancs who play for Holland and Robben too but Holland were my team from the 70′s so I will stick with them.

    De Jong looks good again.
