So Danny Fizman has come out and said exactly what we said yesterday and have in fact been saying for months.
Fiszman, the power broker on the Arsenal board, said:
‘We’ve never said no to Arsene, so I’m sure that whoever he wishes to bring in, he will be fully supported’
‘There’s no set amount. But as I said we’ve always supported Arsene, we’ve never said no to him and have no intention of saying no to him’
‘I think Arsene said it’s not a big name we’re after, it’s a big talent. I think it’s about big talents and committed players’
We spent a whole day yesterday rubbishing talk that we were skint, we had 4 AKB’s telling us we were wrong, but Danny boy’s come out and said it’s there if he wants it. So to all those who knew better, have a nice day, go stew!
He also said it’s not about big names it’s about talent, well here on Le Grove we’ve never asked for Ronaldo, we’ve have however asked for Ben Arfa, Barry, Diego, Benzema, a big center back and Nasri, hardly big names, but certainly big talents.
Yeah I know we cheekily ask for Goofy and Kaka but that’s more tounge-in-cheek.
He also said our wage bill was up there with the Mancs and substantially more than the scousers, so that dispels all this wage structure nonsense we argue with the AKB’s.
At last we are hearing from the top what we’ve been asking for, spend our money! I don’t think Fizman would be telling ATVO this if something were not afoot, so brace yourselves Grovers, it’s about to happen.
We had a great bank holiday Monday, with many of you chosing to spend yout day chatting, well done and don’t stop, someone out there is obviously listening.
It’s not wrong to question, it’s not wrong to speculate, and it’s not wrong to want silverware!
I still believe it will happen over the next two weeks and we’ll all be watching the Euros and our new ‘big talent’ signings, I for one am getting excited, so a big thanks to Danny Fizman.
You sure did stick it to the people who have been saying we’re skint…because we’re not!
I was listening to the news this morning that Pompey fans were complaining about having to pay £700 for a season ticket, Sunderland were moaning about a whopping £450, they don’t know they’re born, do they???
Bentley has turned down a new contract offer from Blackburn, you’re not thinking what I’m thinking are you?…
Have a smug Tuesday Grovers, you earned it!
May 27, 2008 at 9:01 am
How much do you gents pay for your season tickets?
May 27, 2008 at 9:05 am
I have a good feeling that we are going to win a trophy next season and be a vastly rich club in 24 months! I would love to own just one share of AFC, a team I have supported since 1966.
May 27, 2008 at 9:07 am
£1015 for PL and 7 CL and FA Cup matches. Lower tier
May 27, 2008 at 9:11 am
and even more good news….
the mancs owe £764mill and the chavs £736mill
sugar daddy at arsenal?? no thanks!!
im expecting nasri today or 2mo now after what wenger said
May 27, 2008 at 9:15 am
Talking of season ticket renewals, albeit on a base level, has any red member also found that when you login to your memebership account at arsenal.com it doesn’t show your membership as being available for renewal ?
I thought you had to renew at the end of May ?
Probably the arsenal.com website being rubbish again.
May 27, 2008 at 9:15 am
Thats pretty pricey, but undoubtedly worth it.
I agree Tom, I expect it by tomorrow
May 27, 2008 at 9:16 am
well we aint expecting ronaldinhos, cristano ronaldos, kakas,
we want big talent, and that is samir nasir, giovani dos santos, karim benzema, hatem ben arfa.
with david villa, am sure he is a big name but i dont think arsene will go for him
May 27, 2008 at 9:18 am
Good post Geoff,
These are potentialy exciting times for Arsenal, & all those who are fortunate enough to have seats @ the ground. As for me, I was, uming and aring about getting rid of Cable TV, but, $1020/annum, and comfy couch, frig full of fizz & The Arsenal. Bring on August.
May 27, 2008 at 9:18 am
But if he did go for Villa it would be making a big statement. It would get a few clubs shaking in their boots, not to mention give us quite a boost.
May 27, 2008 at 9:20 am
Arsene said from the get go he wanted 2 or 3 “ready made” players, so the fact the board will support him and get him the players he wants is just an affirmation of commitment by the board. Many have felt the need for this statement to be made, and I’m glad it has because hopefully that’s the last we’ll hear about Wenger not doing his job when the transfer window hasn’t even closed and the board have never mentioned that we’re skint, a ballpark figure of 25m was quoted which should be enough for Arsene, but of course if we really need someone, it’s counter - productive to turn down a player we need today that we could keep for five years and lower profits now, but make a huge profit in a few years time when we don’t need to keep replacing them. As long as we can keep the team at this level of development, ie. keep the same shell and replace 1 or 2 same or better players every season we’re on the road to success. We already have a good cake, all we need are some cherries and icing.
May 27, 2008 at 9:22 am
Joaquin, we’re getting 2 new strikers next season not just one, Barazite and Vela.
May 27, 2008 at 9:22 am
tom
where r u getting those figures from ?
)
since that Russian git has taken over the club he has only spent 570 mil total .. ( i say only
and they turn over 260 mil a year .. not sure how chevski is in debt ?
i cant see him owing anything with the amount of cash he has !
May 27, 2008 at 9:22 am
Thanks Gnarley! I go every week and it’s £2,500 but I have to say, if I could watch every game on TV with the replays etc, I think I would, getting in and out of the Grove is a real pain in the arse.
May 27, 2008 at 9:24 am
When Arsenal are in confident mode, turn on the style and play their pass and move football I just can’t take my eyes of the game. I purr with delight. Worth every penny of my £1015 season ticket for next season.
May 27, 2008 at 9:25 am
gnarleygeorge9 where r u located ?
your place sounds alot like mine !
but id say my cable is about $600 PA .
May 27, 2008 at 9:28 am
Finest I know you are right, but no one expects us to splash the cash.
You know that it it were announced that we had signed Villa ahead of the Euros other front offices would be worried.
May 27, 2008 at 9:29 am
ethan… everything chelsea have spent has been as an interest free loan from abramovich.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2008/may/20/premierleague.chelsea
i cant see him demanding money back out the club but when his interest in the club cools (as it appears to be) he’s gonna put his business head back and want somthing back, either that or when he sells the club the new owner will have to take that debt on
May 27, 2008 at 9:30 am
Joaquin, they’ll be even more worried that we have Rosicky back with a titanium implant and RVP, double whammy.
Besides we could get JK Huntelaar for that money, he’s better than Villa.
May 27, 2008 at 9:31 am
Our boys can fill the void up front, I have no doubts about that. A proven scorer would be nice though.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ik7Mp7GmJ3U
The sheer technique would be much appreciated in our parts.
May 27, 2008 at 9:32 am
I think thats a bit of a stretch, impressive finisher he is though.
May 27, 2008 at 9:34 am
On Austar, in non capital city Australia, we get a choice of 5 games @ once on the Saturday into Sunday(Menued), then a staggered session on the Sunday into Monday, then whatever individual games after that during the week. Plus ESPN spanish & italian; Setanta for ………. do I need to go on. Just don’t see the wife much.
May 27, 2008 at 9:35 am
I don’t want us to ‘do a Chavski’ either. I dont want the big name, big buck, big ego, no commitment mercenaries at Arsenal.
BUT, i do want quality additions to our wafer thin squad.
Ben Arfa? He wouldnt demand £150k a week would he? He’s young, French, technically gifted, so effin sign him!
Jeez! I’d be happy with us signing Jussi jassawotsit from bolton, and he’s on a free!
Then there’s the CB, that Richard Dunne fella wouldnt break the bank (although would lurve it if we signed Micah, who would!)
So, there’s 3 realisitic options that wouldnt bust us (plus nasri of course!)
Good day to you!
May 27, 2008 at 9:35 am
Villa is second best to Huntelaar….Huntelaar already plays alongside RVP for Holland so he’d slot straight in, and he’s already the perfect out and out striker, a cross between Van Basten and RV Nistelrooy, the same type of striker as Eduardo.
But we’re not going to get either
May 27, 2008 at 9:35 am
FROM EARLIER
PEDRO
if ade only scored 20 but had the touch of TH14 id class him as world class in a heart beat !
Im not concerned by anything other fact than the way he preforms on the pitch ..
NO offsides , sharp passing with good arsenal type vision , ive never measured ade by goals ! because last season i feel if he was the class im talking about he would have scored OVER 40 !!! easy !!!
he was forded so many opportunities , and he only took 1/2 of them ..
will he get service next season ????
its a burning question , that currently i couldn’t answer , and would rather risk
a sure fire world class performer like villa
..
speaking of which did you here torres is wanted by chevski 50 mil the price tab ..
thats the sort of shit i was talking about last night with joseph .. liverpool buy a player for 27 mil .. next year he’s worth 50 !!!!
hows that for losing money on torres !!!
we lost the season during ades goal drought ..
we looked dreadful , no one scored .. neither did he ..
his offsides came to a head .. for every pat on the back you give him , you can take one away for not scoring for 11 games .. its wenger fault really ..
not trying something different . like RVP - theo
but be assured we lost over 8 points during those times big raddy mentioned
started at birmingham .. and got worse as the weeks went on ..
we only snapped out of it when we were 5 points behind !!!
May 27, 2008 at 9:35 am
The lack of support at the Grove is starting to wear me down. I much prefer the away games. The support is tip top!
My highlight of last season was the Bolton game!
May 27, 2008 at 9:36 am
Joaquin, who do you mean by “other front offices” ? The other top 3 clubs ?
May 27, 2008 at 9:36 am
so we do have the money!!!
finally!!!
we’re not broke!!!! wooot!!
May 27, 2008 at 9:37 am
Chavski = Romans money laundering machine. Chelsea debt = “legit money”.
Chelsea is Romans slave cash dump for his ill gotten gains….Chelsea are a football equivalent of Enron in the US.
May 27, 2008 at 9:38 am
heres something bayern are on a tour to india now and the big thing is tht olivers last game for bayern is going to be played here and we have a huge farewell for him imagine olivers last game for bayern in INDIA!!lots of bayern fans have come here
May 27, 2008 at 9:39 am
absolutely the other 3. And the rest of the big clubs in Europe. It would just be a sign that we mean business this year and to be afraid.
May 27, 2008 at 9:39 am
Morning all,
Top post again Geoff, and finally we have it from the horse’s mouth, we’ve got dough (we knew that anyway), and we can go and spend (won’t happen!) Why? Becasue AW has got this far without going overboard so why start now?!
We will get new players, I just dont think they’ll be ones we’ve heard of. As long as they turn ot like Dudu and Sagna, bring it on!!
On the David Villa tip again are we?! Hate to say this but, I just dont think he’d be a hit! Hes 5ft 9, 5 FOOT 9!!! Now seeing as we have Dudu,Theo and Vela all about that size, and we seem to currently be on the short side across most of the team, I’d say AW aint getting Villa!
Having spent the last 3 days half cut and avoiding any sports news, it’s nice to surf the net and see some positive news floating about re the Arse again!!
Feeling mighty positive folks, mighty mighty positive!!
May 27, 2008 at 9:40 am
Finest I think Huntelaar is legit and would be a great signing. If i had to have one though I would have to get Villa. Not to mention Fab said he wanted him to come.
May 27, 2008 at 9:42 am
Odub, you could have left Van Nistelrooy out of it.
May 27, 2008 at 9:42 am
Le Cunt, Go away.
May 27, 2008 at 9:43 am
david villa would cost 20-25 mill..
way too expensive for us!!
May 27, 2008 at 9:43 am
Purely speculative Odub but I do agree he is a bit small, but he is just like dudu except maybe even better technically. Size aside he is just class as we will all see at the Euros. Fab and Iniesta feeding Torres and Villa will be fun to watch.
May 27, 2008 at 9:43 am
lol charybdis!!!
May 27, 2008 at 9:43 am
I want a top defensive midfielder. Don’t care who - Ya Ya, Diarra (Real not Dolphinhead), Essien (pretty please). Just top quality
May 27, 2008 at 9:44 am
I wouldn’t knock Villa back, he is very good say 90/100. Huntelaar is about 92/100 so that’s why I say he’s second best. Both very good prospects, but they’re other clubs players. We might get Huntelaar next season if he stays at Ajax under Van Basten and Bergkamp, now that would be a coup.
May 27, 2008 at 9:45 am
I heard Cannavaro is moving from Madrid to Napoli. I say we should hijack that, rather than Thuram!
May 27, 2008 at 9:45 am
lol chary
May 27, 2008 at 9:45 am
anyone irritated by Arsene and Arsenal board apologists like Arseblogger, and co.!
The board keeps pointing at Arsene, and claim they have never said “no” for players. Thus we should blame Arsene for being complacent, and not being aware of injury situations, etc. He relies on Ro-sick, and RVP again!! Is he sane?
May 27, 2008 at 9:46 am
I was watching a reel of Van Basten in his day and he was a fucking genius.
Who you guys think is going to have a breakout tournament at the Euros?
May 27, 2008 at 9:46 am
fabgooner,
The press in Munich are going bonkers over “King kahn’s popularity in India. Is it that frantic in kolkata? Nice keeper, a bit of nut for a German goalkee.
I also feel we should do such tours around the world, for merchandise, and gather more fans. I suspect by now many Indians want to follow Bayern munich from now on.
And hey, I heard Bayern’s sporting director claiming that Bayern have a good chance in UCL, but it’s not easy as the english clubs like Chelsea and Manure spend millions, but he ’s happy that Bayern don’t have a huge debt to buy success.
May 27, 2008 at 9:47 am
Yeah Joaquin lets have a bet, who scores more goals, Villa or Huntelaar at the Euros. I’m going for Huntelaar, do you accept the proposition? Oh and another one….
I bet Huntelaar will be more productive then Villa ie. more Assists + Goals in total.
Fancy taking both on?
May 27, 2008 at 9:47 am
Have you seen the new widgets in the side bar?
AKB comment of the week look a bit silly this morning doesn’t it?
So Ethan… you problem with Ade is purely him as a footballer… not a striker?
Is that why you prefer Nikki B… he is the better footballer?
Gooner 07… your comment got jammed up… you are free to post now (I’ll put the last comment down to frustration at being jammed…
).
May 27, 2008 at 9:47 am
robin van persis
May 27, 2008 at 9:47 am
Essien would be a powerhouse in the engine room
May 27, 2008 at 9:48 am
so real have said ronaldo is in the pipe line,
“Our work is done. Now we depend upon the player” Madrid’s president
May 27, 2008 at 9:49 am
Sorry people, but it doesn’t take long to get a twat does it? I deleted his comment, he said this site wanted Usmanov!!! when was that then pencil dick?
Angry I agree the Bolton game showed character in spades.
May 27, 2008 at 9:49 am
absolutely. I will take that bet, what would you like to wager?
May 27, 2008 at 9:50 am
“We don’t believe in the benefactor model,” Fiszman insisted.
“It is not a question of a one-time infusion of cash to buy player x or player y. You actually then have salaries that are connected to the players.”
“What if they don’t work out? Do you go and buy another two or three players? Is there any end to it?
==================================
What is it now? Block me again for saying something u don’t want to hear?
May 27, 2008 at 9:50 am
Thanks Perdo.
Joaquin,
RVP at his best could produce such moments of magic like MVB.
May 27, 2008 at 9:51 am
Pedro, thanks for taking LC’s comment off. It was offensive . You do a great job of moderating - thank you
May 27, 2008 at 9:51 am
Please let Ronaldo be Madrid bound. The look on ‘ole 65% proof noes’s face would be priceless - as much joy as baby Terry’s blubbing at the Moscow diving comp last week.
May 27, 2008 at 9:52 am
True Gooner 07. But can you really see RvP staying fit for a whole season? We just can’t rely upon him
May 27, 2008 at 9:52 am
Joseph, I’ll let you on but if you start arguing again, I’ll block you, there are plenty of sites where you can do that, behave and you’ll be let on to chat freely with the Grovers.
May 27, 2008 at 9:52 am
How about a conditional bet? If we reach a final for a trophy a ticket to the match?
How would we arbitrate it to make sure it gets settled should the situation occur?
May 27, 2008 at 9:52 am
Joseph… we’ll block you if you start boring us with your ramblings…
May 27, 2008 at 9:52 am
It strikes me that if we signed someone like Villa then the shirt sales alone from that sudden rush of euphoria would contribute a substantial chunk of change towards his fee….
May 27, 2008 at 9:53 am
Chary…. you are on form today. Must have been the holiday
May 27, 2008 at 9:54 am
bentley could be a good buy. I wonder if Wenger put a clause in the contract that we could bring him back.
I noticed Villa have been linked with Dunne from Man City, perhaps we could get Laursen from them. He was awesome last year and would be the commanding Cb we need.
May 27, 2008 at 9:54 am
why do people think we come here to argue with arsenal fans, if we want an argument we will go to sky, setanta or 606, it amazses me that some (alleged) arsenal fans come here to throw shit at us,
a community has been built on this site for the love of arsenal.
if you are that opinionated set up a blog its free (i think!)
May 27, 2008 at 9:55 am
Bentley would be interesting, if he sacked his ego.
May 27, 2008 at 9:55 am
Guys’ don’t get me wrong, I’d love to se David Villa at Arsenal he’s a top striker no doubt, but I just cant see it happening. That Gomez guy sounds more likely.
So which one of these french kids are a done deal? And who do we think our ugly blood thirsty CB will be?
May 27, 2008 at 9:55 am
You have to grab your pockets of joy where you can - greasy winkers departure would be one of those, yes indeedy.
May 27, 2008 at 9:55 am
Gunner07;
Cannavaro is about 5ft 6″! Thats all we need, another short arse defender!
May 27, 2008 at 9:55 am
well I JUST WANT TO CONGRATULATE GEOFF/PEDRO,,,,I THINK ITS THEIR EFFORT YESTERDAY THAT BOARD CAME OUT AND SAID THAT…..I THINK BOARD MEMBER REALLY READS THIS BLOG AND MUST HAVE SAW FANS SO PISSED OFF.
AND THANK U PEDRO /GEOFF……UNLIKE OTHERS BLOGGERS U RESPECT UR FANS AND PEOPLE WHO WRITE TO U….AND HAVE PATIENT EARS TO LISTEN TO THEM.
YOU R A GREAT TEAM AND I ENJOY READING YOUR POST EVERYDAY
THANK U
May 27, 2008 at 9:56 am
mark c bentley has most certainly burned his bridges IMO, he is liverpool bound i would imagine,
May 27, 2008 at 9:56 am
Danny Fizman said “Gunners won’t break the bank to sign a player”
http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/north-east-sport/latest-sport-news/2008/05/27/gunners-won-t-break-the-bank-84229-20978350/
May 27, 2008 at 9:56 am
You’re welcome Mayank!
May 27, 2008 at 9:56 am
well that is tough, but we are gentlemen here and i am a man of my word. Why don’t we make it something set like a new kit of choice, particularly considering it may be tough for me to make a match from Los Angeles.
May 27, 2008 at 9:58 am
le cunt
your name suits you ..
go fuck yourself in the prettiest way imaginable..
im sure you would like to keep the team together and have another fruitless year .. but unlike some REAL fans we want the best for our club …
To return to winning ways….
so keep your green ugly bollocks in your pants ..
no fucker here wants to see them here !
and im sure your current board of freaks who didnt want a YANK or his money…
is now going to bed with the cunt , and will soon offer him a spot on the board
just to ensure DD will never return ! only difference is they dont see kranky as a threat because he dont own so many shares .. but if red and white got 6 or 7 more % they could take over !!
nothing shonky about that is it ?!?!?
there all fucking crooks riding this club ..
we are only asking they inject some money back into the FOOTBALL club ,
everyone keeps blaming arsene …
but why did we dip out on ribery ?
we all know arsene wanted him !
i dont believe a word of what fizman says !
i do know however we aint skint !
May 27, 2008 at 9:58 am
i’d rather have walcott on the right wing then that cnut bentley!
he deserves the chavs or pool
May 27, 2008 at 9:59 am
I would rather have Theo on the right than bentley.
Screw him! Not me personally like, but you catch my drift.
May 27, 2008 at 9:59 am
Laursen would be a good buy. But who does he replace?
May 27, 2008 at 9:59 am
Why do people think that ‘Freedom of speech’ means you can act like a tosser?
Life isn’t freedom of speech… there are rules to that speech and if you impinge on them… you need to be told or removed from which ever forum you are polluting.
You don’t hear members of parliament calling each other cunts when they disagree… if they did, they’d be booted out.
Bad behaviour isn’t tolerated in the real world so why should the rules be different in the cyber world?
May 27, 2008 at 9:59 am
Good call Choy.
May 27, 2008 at 9:59 am
We need a finisher. Is it just me or people do agree that Henry wasn’t the best of finisher?! He did score regularly, but he isn’t the main striker. Some f-er who is born to get the job done in the box! Remember o6′ final at Paris, a case of whatifs with Henry’s missed chances? While I say that of Henry, then expect a more ruthless estimation of Adebayor. Of course, he brings a few things to the team, but I’d say that we miss a potent finisher like a MVB, Romario, etc to make this team invincible (at least in attack) like 90s milan/barca. Or in modern days, someone like RVN, who could finish the job in the box. Playing pretty is okay as long as we finish it in the end. We need a player like Huntelaar, or Gomez to complete our attacking finesse. Enough said. And yeah, we need a goal scoring midfielder. No more sick jokes like Eboue or Diaby..There’s Rosicky..oh!
May 27, 2008 at 10:00 am
I was about to rip into some cnut called quite appropriately Le Cunt, but I can see you guys are on the case!! lol
May 27, 2008 at 10:01 am
How about we make it more fun Joaquin, if I win I get a Holland Huntelaar shirt, if you win you get a Spain Villa shirt, how does that sound? If you win you’re not gonna spend it, a treasure for life, especially if your player gets the Golden boot. Since Spain are favourite to qualify form their group and Holland are in the group of Death, you have a much better chance of winning, how about an Arsenal away shirt on top for me if I make it making it 2/1?
May 27, 2008 at 10:02 am
Laursen isn’t bad, I wouldn’t consider it a great signing though. Gomez has potential, want to see it at the Euro, but if he has a good tourney you know the price tag will go up.
May 27, 2008 at 10:02 am
Early bird Odub!
May 27, 2008 at 10:02 am
gooner 07..
we had a finisher his name started with E …. I don’t think anyone made finishing look so easy!!!
but he will be back!!!
May 27, 2008 at 10:03 am
Rip away Odub. It always amusing to read your abuse
May 27, 2008 at 10:04 am
I wouldn’t want Bentley back. He’s done nothing but slag off the club since he left and it seems like he can only hit form for less than half a season.
I want to see a bit of pace on the wings not Beckham Lite (tm!!)
May 27, 2008 at 10:04 am
geez don’t bet with finestcuts!!!
he knows a whole lot of permutations and combinations and inside scoop!!!
lol….just kidding
May 27, 2008 at 10:04 am
choy,
“but he will be back!!!”
when would that be? Would he be the same? Time needed to get back in touch?
May 27, 2008 at 10:05 am
You can hedge your bet by going for Spain to qualify
Win from the bookie to give to Finestcuts
May 27, 2008 at 10:05 am
ya gooner07 it is good but not tht good as the premier league clubs in india ,if any club comes everyone goes to see and goes to meet we get very less football clubs coming here so any opp is taken here thts y it must feel and personally i do not think it will be tht much crazyness to see bayern and oliver as the ipl is on and the whole country is glued but yes thr is interest here for football so any club comes everyone goes
May 27, 2008 at 10:05 am
I think that is a great idea, all but the 2 to 1. I am game for the equivalent shirts. Here’s a kicker for you. if either team doesn’t make it out of the group then only group goals count. They both mak it out then we go with total tournament. Fair enough?
May 27, 2008 at 10:06 am
Real have admitted they are interested in Hleb. So thats Inter barca and now real.
If we don’t get top dollar for the ice cream loving Willem Defoe lokkylikey, then that’ll be piss poor.
Unlike some, i don’t rate Yaya, I would much rather we got a big wad of cash or Eto’o from barca, or Robinho from Real (plus cash) But my number 1 would be that big effin monster Mahmadu Diarra!
May 27, 2008 at 10:06 am
Cannavaro is short, but he could leap higher than most, and has an incredible vision and reading of the game, to get ahead of the strikers. You don’t realize the lack of height when you see him play.
May 27, 2008 at 10:07 am
I may already have a Villa shirt come tournament time. I want a Torres one but he’s a fucking scouser now and I would feel dirty getting it.
May 27, 2008 at 10:08 am
gooner he is getting older though
He will begin to lose the leap and the step that made him so great.
May 27, 2008 at 10:08 am
If not Cannavaro, then Carvalho. Yep, he plays for chavs. But IMO, one of the best defenders in the world..
May 27, 2008 at 10:09 am
Geoff, still in 2nd gear mate!! Big R, I’ll have you know I’m a gentleman of the highest order!!! Ok fine even I’m not buying that!
I’m going for France at the Euros, as longas they flipping qualify from that group!!
Italy or Holland might be going home early!!!
May 27, 2008 at 10:10 am
For some reason the offensive little twit that was on earlier is convinced we wanted Usmanov in, just for the record, this blog has always been against Usmanov taking over, we did however write a spoof one once.
I guess it takes all sorts.
May 27, 2008 at 10:10 am
Morning campers, good read Geoff. I think DF must read Le Grove as most us asked for this to be clarified yesterday, and I for one sure did amongst all the speculation that the media seem to enjoy writing.
So now we have it, and that has brightened my day, but the question is will Arsene spend the money…. I suspect he will as he is in a dodgy period at our club and needs to bring in some quaility and experience. As said all along, I am not fussed if the players are not Kaka, Ronaldo etc, if he brings in three other than Nasri who all give as much as Bac has done in terms of commitment, attitude and performance.
Nasri should be announced today we are lead to believe.
Makoun stiil pops up, and i wouldnt be surprised if he is bought, my preference though would be Yaya Toure.
The Villa rumours has subsided, but I wont be amazed if he joins us, dispite Arsene saying no, that is his style….
My worry is the scarey defender - who is he???
Lastly, are we all thinking Bentley is about to return?? Not sure if he is good enough for us now - bit of an attitude hence being sold in the first place, i would rather Benzema.
So - BH over and lets hope the deals are soon wrapped up, and we can all settle down and enjoy the summer…..
May 27, 2008 at 10:11 am
Talking of Eduardo I have alsight doubt whether he wpould still want to play oin the Premier League. When you have a traumatic event happen you may not want to return to where it happened, and by that I mean the Pl rather than St Andrews.
My younger son nearly drowned on holiday in Tenerife a few years ago and I won’t be going there again purely because of it’s traumatic associations.
The upshot of all this is Wenger should plan for Eduardo not returning at all. Vela is not ready to drop into a striking role straight off. RvP is historically crokced for a majority of any season. Bendtner is a year, at least, from being the finished article so I do think we need to get another experienced striker.
May 27, 2008 at 10:13 am
isn’t song the one who kept out makoun from the ACN?
why would we want him?
May 27, 2008 at 10:14 am
Yeah but I have France, Italy and Romania to contend with, you have Sweden, Greece and Russia. Spain are 1.26 to qualify whilst Holland are 1.85….
OK here’s another twist to even it out. The bet stands if both Spain and Holland qualify and goals scored AFTER the group stages. In the event of a tie, group goals are counted. Fair enough?
(You’re still the favourite)
Thats pretty good value for an even money proposition, the odds are in your favour, how about a packet of the best American candy on top for me if I win?
May 27, 2008 at 10:15 am
yes pedro ..
i am only concerned with ades skill level !
is he arsenal class .. just ask yourself that ?
if the answer is the same as me .. then youll understand why i think he is the weakest link
bends shows better promise Vs age, maybe because he has more basic arsenal fundamentals and from a better football background from us having him at a young age to learn the ARSENAL CODE !
We dont need 2 similar players on board .. playing 2 together makes our game plan change , we become a bolton with class if we play ade and bends …
long balls in the box and crossing ..
Id hate to see bendtner loose faith this season from being underplayed , only to leave and turn into the star i think he can become !!! he is very close to exploding …
to stunt him this season at the sake of ade would be as bigger blow as losing anelka to spain .
May 27, 2008 at 10:16 am
charyb…
first of all … i’m sorry for what happened to you, hope that your son is doing well now.
second brum are off.. we don’t have to go to that shit hole again!!
i think it is a mental challenge more than anything else…. and i do hope that he makes it…
he is a strong lad.. if you read his life story and all that….
May 27, 2008 at 10:16 am
it is pretty ridiculous that Spain are 2nd favorites to win the Euros considering they never win anything.
Germany 7 - 2
Spain 11- 2
Italy 13 - 2
Portugal 15 - 2
France 8 - 1
Czech Rep 12 - 1
Holland 12 - 1
Croatia 12 - 1
Greece 25 - 1
Sweden 25 - 1
Russia 25 - 1
Switzerland 28 - 1
Poland 50 - 1
Romania 50 - 1
Turkey 50 - 1
Austria 100 - 1
May 27, 2008 at 10:16 am
Joaquin - its a little over a thousand pounds for my season ticket. im just glad im going half, hlafs with my dad this season. other wise i would have waved good bye to it. and saved all my cash for somthing i actully NEED,
we WONT Sign a Striker lads. i guarantee it, only if we sell one. witch i dont think we will do either.
May 27, 2008 at 10:17 am
u know i read in places tht eduardo was a very good finisher he can be tht leathel finisher we need but he is injured and wenger will not spend 15-20 million on someone like villa or eto till eduardo he will only if ade goes to milan so if we want villa ade has to go we know with ade thr wenger will never put 15 million for villa with eduaro ,vp,bentdner
May 27, 2008 at 10:17 am
I have to say this folks.
I did not at any point in time think this site would still be averaging over 300 comments a day after the season ended!! Even the evening shift gets more than 100 comments!!
It’s getting so manic on here that if you leav for a minute, topic’s switched twice by the time you get back on!!
Amazing!
May 27, 2008 at 10:17 am
Villarreal have cut loose defender Pascal Cygan……bring back the maestro?!
May 27, 2008 at 10:18 am
Anyone who calls themselves ‘Le Cunt’ barely merits a mention… He should read the AKB stuff… he ticks all the boxes…
I should add another symptom… ‘So wrapped up in Wenger love they are unable to differentiate fact and fun…’
And for the record LC… there was no abuse going on before you posted.
May 27, 2008 at 10:18 am
ethan.. look at anelka now…
arsenal does not regret him leaving.. i think he regrets it more…
anelka left arsenal and they built a training ground around his fees!!!!!
May 27, 2008 at 10:19 am
bookies in the house…. some serious bets going on in here!!!
May 27, 2008 at 10:20 am
Joaquin, they have the number 1 assist maker in the best league in the world ( Fabregas ) and Villa to finish things off, are you telling me it can’t be done?
May 27, 2008 at 10:20 am
Odub it is amazing, but what’s more amazing is we only get 3 or 4 knuckledraggers a session now!
May 27, 2008 at 10:21 am
I can’t see us signing anyone that we would lose to the African Nations Cup which rules out Yaya.
I think that’s why Wenger is looking hard at French Players again…
May 27, 2008 at 10:21 am
Odub Says:
May 27, 2008 at 10:00 am
I was about to rip into some cnut called quite appropriately Le Cunt, but I can see you guys are on the case!! lol
yes gimme 1/2 a sniff and ill give em a serve ..
it takes me back to my blogging days at some nameless blog where 90 % of the gimps were like that !
dead right pedro .. its easy for any person to come on and say i told you so , but to have no opinion before hand is twice as worse than asking questions to begin with !
May 27, 2008 at 10:22 am
finest I wasn’t planning on making this a complicated bet. You were very confident in saying KJH was going to score more goals and now you are bringing up group opponents. It is a valid point, but i will only go for the arrangement I suggested. I will sweeten the package with some sort of American export of your choosing though should you win. Fair enough?
May 27, 2008 at 10:22 am
I think you’re right Queen, he won’t sign any more Africans because of the ACN, it sure cost us this year with poor old Kolo’s form.
I won’t mention Eboue, oops I just did!
May 27, 2008 at 10:24 am
We could always hope that he sells Eboue to make room to bring another African in I guess….but lets face it, we’re not that lucky!
May 27, 2008 at 10:24 am
i bet the cb we’ll get will be from eastern europe, and we’ll get him after he’ll make a good impression at euro
May 27, 2008 at 10:24 am
Spuds are in for Fred, not good news if they get him - he is 24 and i watched him over the last few games of the season whilst keeping an eye on Ben Arfa… Fred is big and strong and a good striker… MME!!
Forgive my view here for Euros, but any team with one of our players in, i hope get knocked ot early so they are not playing all summer.
Has Sagna definately been ruled out of Euros?
I am going to have a pound on Portugal to lose in the Final, Ronaldo gets his foot stuck in the turfs and tears all his ligaments in the process of missing the deciding penalty!!!! Out then for the first half of the season…….. dreaming…..
May 27, 2008 at 10:25 am
I am not saying it can’t be done, I am angry because i was going to wager on them pre tournament but I thought I would be getting better odds. My second pick is Holland which will be better value as long as they can get out of their group. Their first match against Italy will be huge.
May 27, 2008 at 10:25 am
Are we all satisfied with El Blondie, or do we need a new keeper?
I seem to recall that Le Grovers are happy with his performances last season. I was not. I feel Almunia does not dominate the box, has poor judgement on when to come for a cross and has inadequate positional sense.
Our shots to goals conceded ratio is poor, and I think Jens should have been given his place back after the arse smacking. And Fabianski is still a couple of seasons short
Sign Frey
May 27, 2008 at 10:25 am
Like voodoo the ultimate trading opportunity has just hit me and I’m happy to share, this could pay for the shirt Joaquin
Buy Spain on Betfair to win the tournament, sell when they make it through to the first round, the odds could easily halve, so even if Spain finish their group second….a guaranteed profit. Surely Spain won’t get 3rd.
Simple yet a banker, buy and sell, once you’ve greened out after the group stages it doesn’t matter if Spain win or lose
And it’ll be more profitable than the group stages. Plus if Spain are in shit in the last match you can lay them to win meaning if they don’t get through you win, if they do, you win more, total lockup
May 27, 2008 at 10:26 am
Interesting. This Le cunt twat must be from a certain blog which logs 500 comments minimum, but hardly 40% concerning AFC, or football!
May 27, 2008 at 10:26 am
so what does everyone think of Traore on the left wing and eboue as back up right back for this coming season?
May 27, 2008 at 10:27 am
Frey is expensive, Coupet for a couple more seasons is more Wenger-like.
May 27, 2008 at 10:27 am
haha great idea.
May 27, 2008 at 10:28 am
Yeah I think they’re beginning to get the message (finally!!) Geoff, we like the blog the way it is, so fuck off!
As much as I love most of our African players (past and present), the ACN is beginning to make buying anymore og them less and less attractive. I’d say we could get away with having 1/2 African players, anymore and we’ll struggle to cope.
May 27, 2008 at 10:29 am
Gooner07… I saw your comment earlier and I thought you were calling me a Le Cunt!
I didn’t notice the commenter…
May 27, 2008 at 10:29 am
hallo guyz.interesting morning. Its amazing news that we have cash to spend over the transfer window.Nasri is def a gooner now..well almost…i guess nasri is hot shot thats why he wants business done before the Euros…for the record i love Arsenal
May 27, 2008 at 10:29 am
Joaquin,
I’m not saying Cannavaro is a long term signing. I’m just putting him up, rather than someone like Thuram, who would be suicidal in EPL.
May 27, 2008 at 10:30 am
right right. Thuram wont be able to come. Too old and slow
May 27, 2008 at 10:31 am
Morning all; good post as usual Geoff.
Big Raddy - I’m with you re Blondie however he’s not our weakest link and I think if we get a solid CB we’ll do okay in defence next season - maybe wait and see how Fab does and review next summer.
I’d still go for Nesta if he’s available what a signinfg he’d be. Cannavaro is small but fuck me can he jump and he has such solid experience - I’d take him.
Striker - Villa or Huntelaar bith would be good; we do need one.
Ethan - as always mate I’m with re Ade comments.
May 27, 2008 at 10:32 am
Pedro,
haha. Glad you didn’t block me mate.
May 27, 2008 at 10:32 am
Ethan - Ade has more pace than Bendtner, much more, and he gets more involve, appears better at winning the ball and holding up play. Basically Ade is a much better centre forward. But that’s fine. Bendtner is the new Bergkamp, lying deep, picking up the ball and setting up play.
May 27, 2008 at 10:32 am
i think we need to sell ade and get villa or eto if you see the pool game ,manu game and will realise tht ade had 2-3 chances to kill the game or take the lead villa would have put it in and we would be in the semis and would have won the pl and with the amount of chances cesc and co make any average striker will score 25+ goals and someone like villa will easily score 35+ its not only thoes two games he missed sitters many pl games he missed 1 vs 1 which villa would have put in thts the diff and in the end it is tht 4 points which prevented ous the league so i feel ade has to go i hope he does
May 27, 2008 at 10:34 am
Finest we will talk later, need some sleep before work tomorrow.
To waking up and seeing Nasri signed!
May 27, 2008 at 10:34 am
Best away support was at the manwho game - great singing afterwards even though we we had just blown it!
May 27, 2008 at 10:34 am
Timao - fully disagree. Bendtner is an up and comer yes, but Bendtner is equally as quick, he always gets involved when he comes off the sub bench and he does win the ball and set it up a la bergkamp style!
May 27, 2008 at 10:34 am
Big Raddy - I’m not convinced by our waiter from Torquay either - he does not command the box and was lucky to get his automatic starting spot back after his injury - Jens had done nothing wrong so it was wrong call by Wenger to drop ze mentalist.
Frey was on our wanted list a while back - I think he looks better than our currnet no. 1 but I haven’t seen enough of him to say for sure.
Someone earlier said no to Ya Ya due to ACN and I’d agree there because of the disruption it causes us loosing key players- even though he fills the requirements of being an imposing/physical DM.
May 27, 2008 at 10:35 am
Joaquin, think about the bet, if you decide to go ahead with it, see you on here on the opening day of the tournament to confirm
May 27, 2008 at 10:35 am
i quickly logged on earlier at work today, what does everyone make of this EDU speculation? I for 1 would not like him to come back!
May 27, 2008 at 10:38 am
On Blondie - i like him, and think we all will once we have tighened up the defence. I posted a while ago that some days the defence were all over the place and poor old Almunia did know what to do - stay, come out etc…..
With you ScubaG - he is not as bad as some may think, but re-access if he looks dodgy with a super dooooper defence in front of him -
Senderos and Cygan me thinks, as Cygan has been released by V’real………………………… I am joking, honest!!
May 27, 2008 at 10:38 am
It’s tabloid rubbish Evo……only a mug would take Edu back, there’s much better out there.
May 27, 2008 at 10:38 am
Fabgooner,
Precisely. We need a Villa, or Eto’o, or Huntelaar/Gomez type. There’s no guarentee Eduardo will be up for it, right away. And as someone said before, Bendy is a season away.
For this I’d put up Purple nose as an example, he has got that right mentality, managerial skills, and does the right thing for the team, than wait patiently for young players to become world beaters, like Wenger. Thats why no results end of the day, and he also gets some stick back. After signing elsewhere, we hear likes of Diarra, Larrson, Bentley mouth him down. That’d never happen with Fergie, fact.
May 27, 2008 at 10:39 am
Fellas!!!i think some are missing the point.Clearly wenger and danny say we will go for talent and not big names. So forget about etoo, villa and the rest.My bet check out the least known top scorers in la liga, the scudetto, the bundesliga etc and then look who fits best arsenals style.Diego..? mario???
May 27, 2008 at 10:39 am
i agree now choy
but if you think of TH14 and anelka at the club for over 6 years together can you imagine how well they would have done for the club . we would have won everything
for the past 6 + years. we would be the Man U of our time !
i think bends at 19 is a far better prospect .. and would hate to see him disillusioned
with lack of opportunities next season only to leave , and have ade exposed for the player
he is ..
Id rather not call a bluff and sell ade whilst people are prepared to hand out big money for him , get villa , benzema or who ever to form a rock solid strike force up front .
bends can be our plan B ! but i think arsenal doesnt need 2 similar builds of player
on the roster , one will have to give way …..
im futuring a bit , but im sure thats the way it will pan out ..
May 27, 2008 at 10:40 am
Evo - Edu might be off to Spurs - they are welcome to him. Showed us little loyaltiy dispite our club making him a big name, and what has he achieved since…..
We do not want or need another crock
May 27, 2008 at 10:42 am
kenyan gooner
yes we will go for the less ones but wht if ade goes then WE HAVE TO GET a 30+ goal scorer then we will get eto or villa thts y i hope he goes if he does not then yes wenger will never sign a big name
May 27, 2008 at 10:42 am
superb! Edu was slow and rubbish, so thank f*ck he’s not on the way back!
May 27, 2008 at 10:46 am
@Stefi
It depends on what you class Eastern Europe, are we talking about the old political divide or geographically? Cos I can tell you for a fact that the Czech republic and Poland are very Western leaning countries and are geographically in Central Europe.
Which leaves Russia.
A Russian defender? Roman would rather have him as a talismanic icon and outbid us…
May 27, 2008 at 10:46 am
Ade is def staying. He has expressed his loyalty unlike the ice cream dude and flamoney
May 27, 2008 at 10:47 am
150 comments before 11! Could be a record day!
Edu was not rubbish! He was for a few seasons… but remember that goal against Vigo? I really liked him… he should have stayed though.
We wont sign him back though… good job too… I think Diaby could step up this year. He has been patient… lets hope we get a similar impact to Flamini last year!
I am on board with Danny… all we ask for is big talent… not future talent… not prepubescent talent… now talent!
Nasri, Arfa, Villa, Benzema, Quaresma…
May 27, 2008 at 10:48 am
Scuba
i hear you with your defensive choices .. top shelf mate !
also with your strike options !
i think scuba for director of football !
May 27, 2008 at 10:50 am
Is Nesta available Scuba?
May 27, 2008 at 10:51 am
LEt’s not forget the most important position - GK. Gomes or Coupet please. Almunia is a clown (though a safe ass to stand at goal, and avoid taking risks, and thus looks better than what he should have), and Fabianski is few seasons away from being the first choice.
May 27, 2008 at 10:51 am
Thinking about the Villa dilemma - we have enough height up front so a smaller/zippier finisher wouldn’t be so bad.
Also, as he’s not only a big signing but a friend of Cesc’s it woud be two reassurances given to our star player about AFC’s ambition.
Not only does Cesc need these reassurances but we - the paying fans - do.
May 27, 2008 at 10:53 am
For cm, Toulalan or Cana please. They are solid, reliable, and born winners. They have their best years ahead of ‘em.
May 27, 2008 at 10:53 am
i think the nasri signing is so close i can taste it ..
lets hope he is the magician he is rated as in france ..
i hope he adapts like sagna !
(from day 1 ! )
he was signing of the year for me !!!
absolute legend of a defender !
i think i only saw him lose possession 2 times in 1 game all season !
but in fairness from memory it was a game where we all played bad in !
May 27, 2008 at 10:53 am
Thanks Ethan; how much is the job paying? nah; fuck it, I’d do it for free and for the love of The Arsenal, give me the money Danny and I’ll bring success next year and every year!! I’d keep AW as manager until DB10 is ready to come and take us to further glory!!!
May 27, 2008 at 10:54 am
Almunia is no clown, Boruc is a clown type!
May 27, 2008 at 10:54 am
we will never sign eto’o, wneger said a while ago he was happy he didnt buy him after henry left because of all his injuries.
cant see us buying a striker tho, we’ve got allot of cover there plus winger is pretty keen on 4-5-1
May 27, 2008 at 10:55 am
Geoff - Milan are rebuilding so who knows but if you don’t ask you don’t get - I’d imagine he’d like a couple of years in the EPL - if AW is looking for experience then how much more experienced then Nesta can you get?
May 27, 2008 at 10:57 am
or until adams realizes pompy is just a stop gap !
and comes home !!!
how well would he be welcomed as assistant manager !
didnt i hear pat rice is going ???
what was up with all that ???
May 27, 2008 at 10:57 am
I dont watch portugeese football much but from what i have seen so far they have good defenders.Anyone who might enlighten me on this
May 27, 2008 at 10:59 am
ALmunia looked a clown in Paris, and pretty much every time this season where he stood his ground when he should have stepped up to stop an impending attack. He’s shit scared and is not good enough.
May 27, 2008 at 10:59 am
Mexes would be my choice, close to Wenger’s heart as he plays for the French national team, and top quality as well, plays in Serie A for Roma. And he’s 26, exactly the right age with years of Serie A experience and 9 years a pro footballer. You’ll be hard pressed to find better.
May 27, 2008 at 11:00 am
Velosa, center back come defensive midfielder Kenyan, I’d have him in a heartbeat, his value will soar after the Euros.
May 27, 2008 at 11:00 am
Tom - not convinced we have the cover - we have to think that RvP is still a injury risk; Eddy won’t be back until late next year, Theo & NikkiB are still learning, Ade - well, he’ll be found out next year. So yes, you’re right in as much as we have the numbers but still no experienced quality and take a couple of injuries and it could go pear shaped very quickly.
May 27, 2008 at 11:00 am
finestcuts,
Mexes would be awesome. Would cost around 15m though.
May 27, 2008 at 11:01 am
I’d have him too finest.
May 27, 2008 at 11:01 am
i could see adams do his apprenticeship at pompy until arsene retires !
im sure thats the way it will pan out ..
is DB10 coaching now ?
is he doing anything ?
i heard he’s ready for a return to football , but is he doing anything currently with arsenal ?
