Alberto Aquilani, Veloso, Nasri? Who will it be?

by & filed under Uncategorized.

So given that Ben Arfa looks set to fill the left wing slot and Nasri is looking good for Hleb’s spot, who will it be for Flamini’s role?

I think Barry won’t be coming, Johnson is too young so could it be Veloso or Alberto Aquilani? I hope it will be Veloso, he can offer us more and should be the one.

Wenger has said he will sign experience and talent, and from the above, we tick the right boxes, I also think he will do it within two weeks and it will be before the Euros, all that then remains will be the centre back, and I really have no idea, but with Veloso, we’ll have the options.

I read that Toure is unhappy with the Gallas situation, but I have to say, I don’t believe it, Toure is not that kind of player.

All I can say, is if we do sign two from the list, we’ll be stronger and better equipped than this season, so bring it on Arsene.

I so want this sorted out and quick, so Arsene, go for it, we’re all getting excited.

I’m in Pinehurst playing golf this week, so today’s blog is the first transatlantic gig. It’s been a great few days blogging Grovers, so keep it up, I’ll be watching!

On the Cesc show, was there anything deep and meaningful about the players with cesc? Or was it they are sponsered by nike?
I know I’m getting old when I was standing at the Clock end I used to be the same sort of age as the players now I fancy the players Mums.

  2. kenyan gooner

dare those man u cunts not blasphem.cesc is a legend.a true gooner at heart.he gives his all.how many times has anderson won player of the month?? who ‘s talking now???anderson is good cesc is brilliant.get the gist!

  3. Odub

chris the link i posted takes you to the nike site. If you google nike, just follow the path through to the football site, and the UK one will take you to the show. the whole thing’s on there.

  4. goonerjay

Odub… we’ll just have to pray for a hurricane or tidal wave to hit moscow then mate… which has plus sides because then it will take out some of the Manc fans too, it’s a win win situation

  5. kenyan gooner

grim images fellows.but just made me wonder if smthing happened to both the mancs and the chelsea who would take the cup?

  6. david

Thats got to be some tidal wave, Moscow is about 500 miles inland I reckon, a couple of long term injuries on the crappy pitch is all we can hope.
Trouble is if one of the Chelsea or Man U players gets injured they will prob buy one of the players we are after.

  7. chris

how about some sort of hand bags on the pitch that gets both teams banned from next years tournement?

  8. charybdis1966

Odub, no need to call me sir, I get wound up by the biasied treatment The Arsenal gets with the Manc obsessed media we have here and have been known to get frakking wound up, as Starbuck would say.
You’re right Chris, I should really grow up, it’s not the late 1970′s anymore and Battlestar has mutated into something horrible.

  9. kenyan gooner

sad news guyz . juve are using their iaquinta as part of the deal to out do us in the aquilani deal.f**kin cunts.they just cant stop.they want arsenal players plus those that we want to buy.i think wenger should trick them n meke sure he hypes up a trashy so that they buy him.those c*nts devrse that surely

  10. Rico

hello, i am back, have sown some carrots, planted out my Rosemary, and done a bit of gardening, but the curiosity got the better of me and i just had to check for any news…
Surprise, surprise… NONE only that Barton has been jailed…

  11. Rico01

  12. rico01

kenyan gooner – that stuff was on lible earlier, a site that is full of rubbish, have you seen this anywhere else??

  13. kenyan gooner

  14. chris

its odd sometime rico you have to log in and other times it remembers,

charybdis, i actual took inspiration from you and downloaded the new series and i actual enjoyed it, downloading series two (i watched it all over the weekend so it must be good or i was very bored)

  15. rico01

i was a bit dissapointed with the cesc show, dont get me wrong, he was great, but why have manure goldstein hosting it, hels bells would have been better!

    Breaking News Guys on Sky……………………………….

    Wycombe manager has resigned!! Sorry

  16. charybdis1966

Chris, you should try the original series – ok, a lot of it is cheesy but some is good. It’s mainly a nostalgia trip for me(watching the original series), as was actually meeting DB a few years back.

  17. chris

i have that marked as well, as well as 1980 series, there is also some tarted up versions of the orginals out there, check amazon.
but yeah for me it was great but sometimes the things you remember in teh past as great need to be left that way, a revisit can change opinions

  18. chris

love that ep when he is stranded with that woman and cylon on the planet, it was really funny as well,

  19. charybdis1966

Yes, that was the final episode of the 1980 series – they finished on a high as the rest of that series was fairly dire.

Rico – shouuld have been Hells Bells or even Lisa Rogers(she’s a goonerette I believe) presenting FAB4′s show.

  20. Odub

the show was ok, but if i was a neutral i would have slated it.

getting really bored with this no news lark!! And no prison break to take my mind off it either!!

chris/charybdis what show you guys going on about?! battlestar galactica?!

  21. finestcuts

From what we’re led to believe by various news casters, the Arfa, Aquilania and Nasri deals are done. At least one of them has to be the bogus option.

Out of those 3 how many are we likely to get?
    All 3
    2 of them
    1of them
Or….none of them because Diego, Delgado, Kompany and a few others are in the hat, it looks like we’re getting a new central defender.

I don’t see how we’d let go of Toure, Wenger has called Toure the rock of his defence, surely Gallas must be the one to make way. The armband will be taken from Gallas, I’d find it unbelievable to give him the armband again after encountering defensive problems.

The most solid rumour is Justin Hoyte being sold to Villa, that makes sense because Mellberg has gone to Juve, and it would be a cheap deal for O’Neill, it’s usually far more than 4.5 mill for a Right back from the top 4.

Wenger thinks outside of the box, so I’m going for maybe one public transfer to be picked up on and another completely unpredicted, a top quality outsider that you’d never think we’d be able to get.

I can’t see Wenger spending over 30m either, he’ll get 25 mill from club funds and the other 5 from loan deals + Hoyte. So 3 * 10m pound shots or 2 *15 m pound deals.

Arfa and Nasri for cover on the wings makes sense , we’ve been short of options there and had to make do with Eboue.. We already have lots in the middle. Aquilani would fit in too(Meaning we’d have Gilberto, Diaby, Denilson, Aquilani and Song if we’re desperate, 5 players ?? Only if Gilberto is going… ) ,but those 3 together could be 35 m +

    15m for Aquilani
    10-15mill for Arfa
    10-15 mill for Nasri

Unless Wenger can get ‘em for cheaper but I doubt it.

Plus what about the centre back?

    Nasri + Arfa would be 20mill +

So less than 10 mill to spend on a centre back. Would Wenger really be a supercheapskate and sign Lillian Thuram for a year to keep our transfer budget in check and buy a Centre back (or promote from within) next year?

If we buy both Nasri and Arfa above the odds, the cost could be 30m, even if it was 25m we’d only have 5 m to spend on a top class experienced centre back…….for that kind of money you can get a Blackburn defender at best, or sign an experienced player from a free club till next years transfer budget comes out a la Thruam.

  22. charybdis1966

Odub, of course the show had it’s faults and was very much of it’s time. It was a flawed creation but had some exquisite moments. In a way I see it as TV sci-fis Arsenal to Star Treks ManUsa if you see my thinking.

  23. Arsenal Tom

i wouldnt gice too much credance to the 25mil tranfer budget thing… thats all press talk, we have last years money rolled over into this one… theres no way last years and this years budget can add up to 25mil!!!

  24. finestcuts

If we did sell him, how much could we get forr him,? It would have to cover the cost of one of our new players, then yes we could afford to bring 3 in. If Hleb stays for another season we could spend more on a centre back and bring in only one more creative player, if he goes we have to bring in two because Wenger mentioned an EXTRA creative player. So yes Hleb could cover the cost of either Nasri or Arfa, or he stays. So yup we could do it with 30m, Maybe Wenger can get the other deal down to 10-12 instead of 15 giving us 15-20 to spend on a centre back, so yeah we can bring in 3 players in no problem subject to getting the right price for Hleb.

  25. rico01

Odub – the teenager sounds really good, and very strong. 17yrs old, so not too bad considering the age cesc was when he started to play in the first team – if the contract is agreed, i wouldnt be surprised to see him throwm straigh into th CC matches. Also, i wouldnt be surprised to see him in the pre-season games, along with a few of the others.

i know its frustrating but if we announce a nasri/ben arfa/yaya/kompany/villa/makoun, (no not all of them sadly) then we would all be happier, at least our future is not being missed, and he is not so young…

watching the i/v with red nose in moscow on sky – credit to him, a spanish reporter asked if ronnie would be in madrid next season.
cracking reply – ‘my god there are some idiots out here, i thought only england had them – if you want to bet, i will bet with you’ – guess no chance of him leaving manure then -

  26. Trinidad_Gunner

15 Mil for Hleb .. Wenger paid 12 for him? And he’s better than 3 years ago. Spurs paid 16 Mil for Modric.

  27. Odub

charybdis couldnt agree more!!! Only remember odd bits from seeing it many moons ago.

Hleb must be worth what we’re allegedly paying for Nasri or even more!

  28. finestcuts

Scenario where Wenger could end up spending small change.

    Sell Hleb = 15m
    Sell Hoyte = 4.5m

    19.5 m

    Sing Arfa for 12m
    Nasri for 10m
    Lillian Thuram on a free

    22m – 19m = 3m spent in total.

  29. Odub

Rico, we seem to sign at least 1 or 2 french younsters every summer dont we? I take you point though if they all end up as good as clichy or cesc we’re laughing!!

Gotta see the rednose interview when I get in!!!!

  30. Trinidad_Gunner

Oh Davids is leaving Ajax and is on a free … I know he played for Spurs but how old/fit is he?

  31. BB

Hleb will definitely cover Nasri .. so lets assume net net we are flat
a Ben Arfa type player would cost around 12MM .. we sell Hoyte for 4 so thats a net out of 8MM
Gallas might leave as well .. lets say we get 10MM for him
we are up 2MM already and can now buy a midfielder and a CB for 20/25MM in total .. easily achievable

  32. Trinidad_Gunner

Tom, sorry about that I didn’t see him play for Spurs so I don’t know how he was there. The last I saw of him, he was at Barca and in good form.

  33. Arsenal Tom

he was hallerious at spurs… t was so good to watch the horror on my spurs mates faces after the gloating of how they can ‘attract word class players’ ha ha… i always rated him and watching him playing so badly for those cunts only made me like him more!!!

  34. Bud

WHERE THE FUCK ARE THESE IMMINENT SIGNINGS WENGER AND FRIAR PROMISED ??????

    GETTING THE ARSEACHE NOW !!!!!!!

  35. rico01

Davids – no no no, without the yes…. he falls over more than eboue and was real dirty against us a few games against the spuds – no chance, and no way arsene, please

Odub – this potential new kid, is meant to be big and strong and i believe is a defensive midfielder, so imagine him and cesc together in a couple of years time, cesc is still very young, they could be our midfield for 4-5 seasons and at their peak…

    come on AFC.COM, announce something

  36. Odub

So Francis Coquelin is more or less a done deal, so when do we get to the nitty gritty ready to play next season signings?!!

  37. finestcuts

All the deals will start happening when Italy, France and the rest of Europe shut up shop.
There could be a deal after Euro 08.

  38. Trinidad_Gunner

Finest, do you think wenger will pay an inflated price after the Euros? Any player who does will will cost more, and we don’t want a player who doesn’t do well.

The only signing I see that could be after the Euros is an English or African player who won’t be involved.

  39. goonerjay

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO…. We need to sign players before the Euros… Remember what happened with Little Mozart? we picked him up on the cheap and then he went to the World Cup and scored 2 scorchers and was one of the top performers… if we had waited to sign him we would have had to pay twice as much

  40. Arsenal Tom

choy… im hoping its quiet because its a done deal… im guessing everything has been sorted and once lyon have played their last game it should be finalised/announced.

either that or it all went tits up and we’ve gone for nasri instead

  41. rico01

the sun reports newcastle are going to offer 7m for Carlos Cuellar – and i know this name has been dropped into the hat for us by a few bloggers.

Is he that good, and if so should we be thinking of him, i know nothing about him other than he plays for rangers…

i think we will hear something before dark falls

  42. goonerjay

I’m hoping we have a done deal for Ben Arfa and that he was the attacking player Wenger was talking about and Nasri is a replacement for the iminent departure of Hleb

  43. Trinidad_Gunner

So if we sign Nasri, Ben Arfa, Thuram and this 17 year old … thats 4 Frenchies?
Our back line might be Sagna, Thuram, Gallas, Clichy … we should then get Coupet so they could understand each other …. lol

  44. Trinidad_Gunner

Jay, I think its a done deal also … he’s not being linked with any other clubs in the press, same with nasri.

At least other people like Aquilani, Veloso, Barry, you hear other clubs being mentioned

  45. Bud

Good point Trinidad………. by the way do you live “where the rum is good and the women bad” (A song that my father always sung…. was his favourite place actually !!!), or is it a roots thing?

  46. Bud

Or are you a father and you are married to one of those fashion freak old birds off the box?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  47. ScubaGooner

Rico – I’ve seen Cuellar play a few times this season and he seemed steady enough but then again we are talking about the SPL. Played in Europe though..

  48. Odub

Why cant he cut down on french signings for once!! only because they’re national coach is a dickhead and he’d make sure he calls all of them up for meaningless friendlies just to piss AW off! He did this season with Diaby and Flamoney and they returned injured after playing a fucking B international!!

  49. Trinidad_Gunner

Bud, the rum IS good, and the women are beautiful (and some are bad ;) )
Haven’t been home in 18 months though, it’s torture … in Washington DC for now.

  50. Pedro

T-buzz… no idea what is going on with you getting spammed… if you want to get on with no problems, just post as normal without the avatar.

I’ll mail wordpress and find out the problem…

  51. Odub

so i’m currently chatting to a chap in washington dc, india, kenya, dublin, essex and a few others sprinkled all over blighty….Cosmic!

  52. chris

ireland offically supported poland during the world cup, (if you have been here recently you will know why) and that didnt pan out too good so i am going with spain,
and besides the english cant really suppoprt the french now can they/we

  53. Trinidad_Gunner

How can we support France after they leave out Clichy and Sagna ?
I hope Holland put a few past them

  54. Odub

i could have sworn you said you were in dublin!! And for your info I AM IN NEWCSTLE!!!!! just kidding

  55. charybdis1966

Yes you are Odub; I’m in Bucks, but a year ago I worked a long free kick away from Highbury. Lucky me – I got to see Kenny Samson and Charlie George walk inot the marble halls.

  56. Trinidad_Gunner

    Netherlands
    Italy
    France
    Romania

Romania isn’t a pushover either, they were unbeaten in qualifying and finished ahead of the Dutch in the table

  57. timao

oh yeah, thanks – i’m still going to back the Poles though , dark horse material but had a great qualifying

  58. Trinidad_Gunner

I hope the Poles do well too cause I like Leo Beenhakker .. he was great taking us to the world cup … smallest nation to ever qualify (1.3 Mil people) .. and I think this is Poland’s first Euros ? I guess he likes a challenge.

Gunners knocked back in bid for Panama star

ARSENAL have had a reported bid of £1.5million rejected for defender Felipe Baloy by Mexican club Monterrey.

The Gunners have been told to cough up Baloy’s £2.25million buyout clause, although sources close to the negotiations say a deal is unlikely at this stage.

Panama international captain Baloy, 27, has made 26 appearances for his country, scoring one goal.

  60. Trinidad_Gunner

ARSENAL have been pipped by Manchester United to the signing of French wonderkid Jeremy Helen, according to reports in France.

Arsene Wenger is said to be a big fan of the 15-year-old full-back, but the player’s mother has revealed that her son prefers a move to Old Trafford.

“To him, Manchester offers the best career path,” Helan’s mother said on Monday.

“Inter, Newcastle, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Everton also contacted him.”

Rennes are keen to keep hold of the young prodigy, although the club’s general manager Pierre Derossi said they will consider United’s offer.

“The player is keen to go to Manchester United and they have made us an offer,” he said.

advertisement”We will think about it and see whether we will consider it, but we will defend our interests.”

  61. chris

we will never see him in a man u jersey but you know its ok, we cant sign every kid just because he is french and young

  62. Gidster

Watching Setanta Sports News… Phillipe Auclair is doing his Ligue 1 last day of the season round-up. Talking about Lyon, he has said that it is likely that Ben Arfa will stay at Lyon as it was thought Arsenal were seriously interested in him, but it turns out that its Nasri and not Ben Arfa. Auclair said that his sources have told him that the Nasri to Arsenal deal could be completed in the next few hours.

Auclair likes to stir shit, and isnt a huge Arsenal/Wenger fan… but he’s on television saying that Ben Arfa is not on the cards, but Nasri is a virtual done deal.

  63. timao

“I like him as a player… but he lacks judgment and awareness at times. He makes a lot of mistakes and causes penalties. Other than that he is a good player.” … quote on Baloy at £2.25m sounds cheap at the price, hell let’s pay 22.5m!

  64. chris

i tell you if the boys race in three bugattis with the stig in a Koneigsegg, that is going to be a whopper of a show (top gear)

  65. goonerjay

God i miss Top Gear on a Sunday… it’s the only thing i can stand to watch on Sundays other than the Footie… oh yeah and the new Gladiators is worth a look just for the fit women in lycra

  66. Odub

jay i saw the first ep of that, the blokes were almost as bad as wwf wrestling with the over the top panto eye brows!!! the girls were alright though apart from one called …wait for it…battle axe!!! she just looked rough!

But chris the bugatti v the konigsegg would be a race and a half mate!!!

  67. chris

i thought that woudl get you salavating, i just hope its not for the magazine only,
the race is in abu dhabi (where else would you find such cars)

  68. goonerjay

haha… she is a battle axe too Odub… there’s a big picture of her on the advertising board on the bus stop over the road from me so every time i look out of the window i get to see her ugly mug… i wouldn’t be surprised if she’s one of those post operation women.

That race does sound the nuts but i’m hoping the lads do a piece on the Nissan GTR (Replacement for Skyline)… Fifth gear did a bit on it but they are as dull as dishwater and i wanna know if it is worth me putting my name down on the waiting list

  69. ScubaGooner

Is this battleaxe the one from Tamworth? Wouldn’t surprise me; they’re all fucking dog rough up here!!! Fucking hounds!!!

  70. charybdis1966

The Manks reckon we’re interested in Louis Saha – are they having a giraffe ? We’ve got enough crocks in our squad as it is.

  71. ScubaGooner

Hey that will be original; buy them already crocked, welcome saha go straight to sick bay!!

That has got to be a wind up – please!!

  72. ScubaGooner

old red nose would never sell him to us; nor the chavs for that matter. If he goes, it’ll be to a lower club or abroad…. no doubt the spuds will be bidding for him now

  73. chris

According to reports in Ghana, Arsenal have handed a trial to Accra Hearts of Oak teenager Tawrick Jibril.

The 16-year-old midfielder has attracted a lot of foreign interest in recent weeks and has apparently caught the eye of Arsenal’s chief scout Steve Rowley.

Reports claim that Jibril will undergo a two-week trial at Emirates Stadium in June with a view to impressing Arsene Wenger.

Continuing their unstinting search for undiscovered talents across the globe, The Gunners are also being linked with French youngster Francis Coquelin.

Reports in France detail how the 17-year-old Stade Lavallois midfielder and France youth international recently spent a trial spell in North London that was cut short due to injury.

  74. Arsenal Tom

“he has said that it is likely that Ben Arfa will stay at Lyon as it was thought Arsenal were seriously interested in him, but it turns out that its Nasri and not Ben Arfa”

if thats true who would u rather have?? and whos gonna replce hleb??

  75. Stupid

    LOL

cashley got smashed in the ankle by makelele in trtaining…. looking unlikely he will play

    FOOKING KARMA

  76. Paulinho

Auclair loves Arsenal from what I could tell from Arse TV.

Nasri, Hleb, and Rosicky, would be good playmakers to have next year. Walcott, Vela, Traore could be the direct wingers.

I know alot of people wanted a direct winger who hogs the touchline but I would be happy with another Hleb type. Our weakness last season was that we didn’t have enough quality depth for Hleb and Rosicky. Diaby never really cuts it there.

Maybe next season- if Hleb stays- we could rest him when he gets tired unlike this year where we had no option to keep playing him every game.

  77. Rico01

i am not too sad if ben arfa doesnt come our way – nasri and yaya are a must though
    and of course the ch

  78. Odub

is traore defo going to pompey? We seem to have players going to pompey and the brum sum every summer now dont we?

  79. choy

    thats what the reports suggest..

yes we do odub… i would think brum are not on that list anymore now

  80. choy

i hate that mc fadden.. cnut… he left europe to play in the championship!!!!

so who do guys think the top scorer will be for EURO 08?

  81. Pedro

    Evening Grovers!

    Whats been going on today?

I hear Joey Barton got banged up?

    Any transfer gos to share?
