Who is taking over – The three musketeers or the three stooges?

by & filed under Uncategorized.

I saw something horrific this morning, truly sad and I want you to take a minute to think about this.

Today, driving up the M1 a tragic accident occurred.

A truck overturned on the motorway shedding its load of about 20,000 beer cans, the driver was ok, but sadly… a majority of the beer cans perished at the scene of the motorway.

Think about that today. It really puts life into perspective.

Moving swiftly on.

According to rumour, Wenger will not be signing a Flamini replacement.

By my reckoning he has 3 choices.

Song:

Performed wonders at the ACN. He has improved hugely over the last season and despite being played at CB, he could be in-line for a promotion a little further up the pitch. Can he make the step up? Is he too lazy? Is he too prone to pulling a ‘Senderos’? Is he just not good enough?

Diaby:

Undoubtedly the most talented of the three. He can be Vieiraesque one minute, weaving his way around players and scoring screamers… but then he can remind us of why he spends most of his time on the bench with a misplaced two yard pass. He is also up there with the best on Le List.

Denilson:

What is he! Is he Cesc Mark II or is he Gilberto with bells and whistles? The Brazil under 19 captain certainly lacks the bulk to play the holding role, but will the summer see a transformation? Can he make his mark on the team… can he define his role for the team? He certainly showed promise in his first season, however last year due to injury and lack playing time he tailed off a bit… I call it ‘secondseasonitis’.

Can any of these young pretenders stamp their authority on the first team next year? Can they push Arsenal on the extra 8 points he wants (Arsene did say 91 right?).

Only time will tell. I’d like to hear your opinion in the comments section!

Finally, if you were expecting Le Champ of the season today, I apologise… it will be here tomorrow. A good Friday finisher!

Also, spare a thought to the thousands of families who lost an 8 pack in todays tragic accident…

See you in the comments…

Who’s everone nbizzle?!! He lost out on the Le chump award by a smidgen yesteday, so it aint the lot on here!!!

Big Raddy, what ever can you possibly mean!! : -)))

  2. arsenal tom

bizzle i agree to an extent he does provide e a certain amount of cover to sagna bt the problem is that thats all he offers… no final ball no goals which is why he so slated, i think he should be keep… but purely as cover, cover 4 2 positions from one player isnt bad

  3. nbizzle

What i find odd though is that Wenger wont play Eboue in defence but would rather play Toure and put song as CB, theres been to many square pegs in round holes this season for my liking

  4. Big Raddy

If we play a fully fit first 11, Eboue doesn’t get in the team.

    Blondie
    Sagna – Kolo – Gallas – Clichy
    Hleb – Cesc – Denilson/GS – Mozart
    Ade – RvP.

So as a back up he is OK. The real problem is that our taem are so physically brittle

  5. Odub

I still think Hleb will move on either now, or in Jan, cant remember who said yesterday that we don’t need players that dont want to play for us…..Doors over there you fuckwit!

  6. nbizzle

vela on left mozart on right no hleb unless rvp falls over a weed again then we can adopt 4-5-1 with hleb in the hole

  7. Big Raddy

Not for me Odub. At least not yet. I think he will continue on the bench (assuming Hleb stays and Mozart is fit).

  8. Odub

    Agree Big R.

Add the 2/3 new players he’ll be buying who I think he’s buying to go straight into the team.

  9. BB

just read on the website of a Turkish newspaper that Gilberto is about to sign for Fenerbahce.. dont know what its worth, but it seems serious enough
would join up with Zico and his bunch of Brazilians .. doesnt say anything though about how much we would get for him

  10. gnarleygeorge9

Victoria Bitter, to be honest with you is crap, & thats coz its made by Carlton, who incidently have the same name as a shit football club in Melbourne.

  11. Paulinho

The only balance Eboue brings is balancing out the good players with the shit players. Think of it as a seesaw, with Eboue, Diaby, Senderos, Denilson on one side and the spice boys on the other.

As you can tell, all three of those mooted replacements for Flamini leave me lukewarm and indifferent. All three of them have more flaws than Empire state building. Denilson looks to have everything but yet it’s like playing with ten men when he is in the side. Anyone remember Jame O’Hara overrunning him at the Emirates? If that happened to me I would retire.

No, send Diaby and Denilson on loan and let them prove themselves. Otherwise next season will be a write off again.

  12. GMR

    aakash gooner from India-

That money isn’t quoted in dollars or euro’s it british pounds. The ones in brackets are last years amounts.

The reason Arsenal earn’t more than Chelsea is because we appeared on tv more than they did. Every club gets a set fee of just over 22 million (it might be slightly more than that) & then the rest of it is made up on a merit payment & additional tv income dependant on how many times you appeared live.

  13. Hughsie

So apparently Barcelona are offering Carlos Puyol for Cesc Fabregas.

Sure thing Mr.Laporta. I’d love to trade a hardworking and spirited but ultimately not that great and fairly similar in age/ability/height/strength everything else Central Defender for definitely in the top five, arguably the best Central Midfielder in the world.

Personally I’d only consider a swap deal for Fabregas if it started off something like ‘messi goes to Arsenal..’. Even then I’d think very very carefully about it and still be reluctant.

Also, if you want my overvalued Australian dollar’s two cents worth – Coopers Pale Ale is the by far best Australian beer, and carn the Demons!

  14. Big Raddy

With you there GG9. VB is pants.

    A Cold Carlsberg Classic….. Now you’re talking.

G & P ? Probably at a lapdancing club, bottle of shampoo and a few ‘private’ dances.

  15. GMR

I see Clichy is about to sign a new deal, however I hope the board look at his words closely:-

“I’ve been in London for five years. If everything goes well I will stay here for at least eight years.”

Sounds to me like he has a plan to leave.

  16. davoody

Ok, I’m going to throw open another debate. There has been much talk of who is staying, who is going and who we would like to see come in.

What I’m more concerned about is who is going to lead the team next year from the field. Do you all still think it should be Gallas? His display at Birmingham, was it because he was frustrated or because he was spoilt?. Should he have kept more composure?

If he was stripped of the captaincy, much debate would be about who should take over! But more to the point would and could Gallas handle that? Would he be too busy sulking to put in the top performances we expect?

Candidates for the job would be:

Gallas – Did he do a good job? Would he be the same player if he was dropped?

Kolo – He is passionate about the club, but can get distracted into mindless arguments, running the length of the pitch to get involved.

Cesc – Inspirational, but is he too young to lead? Would it take away from his game?

Gilberto – presuming he stays & gets in the team Wenger may resort back to this old faithful

NEW SIGNING – Would he sign a potential captain, who would you think has the credentials to come in to our club and demand that straight away.

Lots of food for thought here.

Wenger might make his adopted son Eboue captain, ok.. I’m taking the piss on Eboue :)

    So what do you think?

  17. 187

you said denilson aint bulky enough for a holding player, but was flamini? denilson is just as combative as flamini and has better passing range..also a good attacking mind. could make a decent partnership with cesc.

  18. finestcuts

I agree Raddy, The defence of Eboue is more about Wenger’s pride and loyalty to his players than Eboue’s actual quality. Moreover, with the quality we have in our team when our best 11 are available, Eboue will have to rely on inujries to play as often as he has this season. We kept hearing “we’re down to the bare bones”. Eboue was not a choice pick, he was a desperate attempt to fill a gap.

As for the players listed in the post:

Diaby – can play both AM/DM, he’s technically skilled and quick and gives us a bit of
flexibility because if need be, he can play on the wings.

Denilson – another player who in Wenger’s eyes gives us a lot of flexibility who describes him as “”a little bit in between Tomáš Rosický and Gilberto”. He came to the club without much experience and is seen as a long term project, a bit like Clichy, it looks like he’ll be in development for another 1-2 years before he steps up for us. He’s ready to play for us, but sparingly, he is a bit of a risk so as Wenger usually does with such players, he’ll slowly break him in. His lack of first team appearances makes him an unlikely candidate to make the step up this year.
He’s good enough to be picked for Brazil, however has not yet made a senior appearance for them, and is captain of the Brazil U-20 team. He signed a long term contract in October 2007 and is one of our “prodigy” players in development, they know a thing or two about football in Brazil and aren’t short of quality players to put in their international teams.

Song – He first joined Arsenal on loan, during which Wenger got to know the player and his abilities, and Song impressed Wenger enough to warrant a full time contract. He was a bit of an unknown but his loan spell at Charlton seems to have helped his progress, and he’s made major headlines after being named in the best 11 squad at the ACN. Wenger has used him a a centre-back, but he can also play in midfield which gives us ample options in that area. Another highly rated emerging player.

All of these are emerging players, but everything points to them playing a much bigger role at the club in the next 1-3 seasons. They’ll be squad players fighting for a place in the first 11 this year, and it’s good to have international calibre backups who are highly rated not just by us, but also by their national teams, I’d much rather have them than some average joe who never has a chance of making it into our first 11. Time will tell what becomes of these players’ dreams however the signs are good for all three of them, and with Wenger committing to adding more experience to the team we’re pretty much covered in all areas.

  19. gnarleygeorge9

In the Arsenal World site that has various stories, etc, how come ashley cole keep s repeating like last nights pizza? Do they do it just to give us the shits?

  20. Odub

davoody I’d give it to Gilberto and make Kolo vice, see how he starts the season, and if he doesnt hit the gorund running then give it to Kolo when he’s not playing.

And if he gives it to Eboue, I’ll stop watching and support Faye Whyte’s ladies team instead!

  21. Big Raddy

    Yet another fine piece Finest.

Captain? For me it has to be Gallas. Without doubt the best leader in the squad. OK, he gets emotional, but for me that is a positive.

Cesc will be the Arsenal Captain in 09/10

  22. davoody

    @Choy
I feel that Gallas was okay as captain. He stepped up with some Big Goals (Man Utd & Chelski). He suprised me for a bit.

So much can be read into the game at Birmingham, what with Eduardos injury, the last min pen etc.. emotions were running high.

But from that day till this, something has been missing in his performances. I know we all go through bad spells etc…

But as the title came to it’s run in. The most experienced player on the field at dealing with that pressure was Gallas, IMO he just went missing for me.

  23. MarkB

Choy, with Gallas i don’t ever get the feeling that he’s a natural born leader. To be the captain of Arsenal you have to have a certain steel about you, something that not everyone process’s. With our team at the minute there isn’t actually anyone who fits that bill FULLY in my eyes. I believe if Gilberto stays then he must become captain again and Kolo – vice captain. Gallas will have to accept that

  24. Paulinho

Actually getting picked to play in Brazil’s engine in central midfield is no great shakes anymore. Your only special if you get picked to play playmaker roles, or forward positions. Look at Cesar Sampao(?), Edmilson, gilberto, Emerson, Anderson Polga, Kleberson. All of these are fairly average players and nothing special at all. But that’s the sort of central midfielders Brazil are producing now. Denilson is another in a long line of uninspiring sitting midfielders. So the argument that Denilson must be good because he is getting picked for under-20s Brazil doesn’t really hold water in my book.

  25. finestcuts

But Odub, Gilberto won’t be starting the season for us because he’s playing in the Olympics. kolo had his chance and lost the plot when it mattered most, in a big game, the CC final. Add to that his drop in form and he doesn’t deserve it yet, I’d make Gilberto vice-captain after Fabregas.

I’d give Kolo another chance of captaincy in the Carling cup, and if he’s good enough, make him vice-captain after Gilberto leaves as well as being third in line at the moment.

Besides, committing to Gilberto would indicate that Wenger plans on using Gilberto there on a regular basis, that will only happen if after he comes back from the Olympics our DM is having a tough time there. I’d love to see Gilberto win his place back and get back to his 06/07 form, and even though there is a chance of it happening, it’s odds against. But Gilberto is an odds beater so he’s a good outside candidate, he certainly has strong claims to the position.

  26. Odub

    hear hear MarkB.

Sorry to keep saying it, but Gallas just does not look the part, nor does his out burst after the brummie game seem to have endeared him to the rest of the squad. I think even Kolo came out afterwards to say a lot had lost respect for him after that.

  27. davoody

    @ Big Raddy

There is emotion & then there is channeling that emotion into positives.

I really don’t intend to bash gallas, if its coming over that way i apologise.

I just haven’t warmed to him as much as say PV4.

    He is lacking something…IMO

  28. choy

he is lacking a lot of things at the moment.. and we are a very patient club aren’t we…

so why not give gallas another year?

  29. arsenal tom

when we signed denilson he was touted as ‘the next dunga’… i think with time and an injury free run he’d be good… he also said in an interview his best position was ‘center midfield, cesc’s position’.

nobody counting ben arfa in their starting 11 either???

  30. Big Raddy

Agreed Davoody, but he for me he is the pick of the bunch. The captain has to be a nailed on starter, which rules out GS.

He is better than TH (only as Cpt), and more voacl than Kolo. And he is the player with the most experience in big games.

My fear is that he has lost the support of the dressing room.

  31. MarkB

We are a patient club i agree, but when it comes to a captain you need them there leading instantly.

  32. Odub

I def think he wont get it next season, mainly because of your last statement re the dressing room Big R.

  33. arsenal tom

    kolo for captain…

get him next to a big monster CB and he’ll be solid again, he loves this club and the players and club love him!!
plus we’ll get another 5 years good playing out of him so we dont have to keep changing the captaincy and selling our capatins!!!

  34. finestcuts

Choy, our defence hasn’t been good enough, and Gallas can’t lift the team when the chips are down, I’d prefer a player who can provide inspiration and take on the role of the leader. Wenger has recently stated that Fabregas is 4 years ahead of his natural age meaning he sees the maturity of a mid-twenties player in him. Add to that that his class and record high achievement at the club. Who better than to inspire the troops to keep gunning? Fabregas has high standards, and there’s a good chance his influence could ripple across the rest of the team.

  35. chris GOONA

Diaby should get the chance in the middle…

    * Hes the most talented.

    * Its his prefered position.

    * Wasnt he meant to be the next Vieira?

I dont think hes actually had a good run of games in the middle since he got injured?? is Wenger protecting him?? its wierd because we all thought he was perfect for that position after Vieira left. Really hope Wenger tries him in the middle because all his skill is wasted on the side of midfield.

With Vela and another creative midfield player coming i dont think we will have any problems on the wings.. we will have:

Rosicky – now supposedly has a new leg
Hleb – can play anywhere along the midfield line
Vela – Can play backup on the left
Walcott – Wengeer said will play right wing, so i think that position is his
Leaves us with Eboue as backup or backup to Sagna. Plus we are buying another player (maybe Ben Arfa) so our wide areas look quite cramped now.

Maybe Hleb will play more of a central role.. if he stays that is

Whatever happens we have plenty of players and options and we will be challenging next season for sure!!!

  36. davoody

Kolo could be a good move for Captain….

He would be BUZZING next year if his BRO comes and joins us….

  37. finestcuts

We have ample options all over the team?

LB = Clichy, Gallas…Pedro Bothelo is rumoured by young Guns to be coming back from loan as backup there, Traore looks like he’ll be developed to be a winger.

CB = Gallas, Toure, Senderos, Song, Djourour, Nordveit, Hoyte

RB = Sagna, Hoyte, Eboue, Toure

Rw = Rosicky, Walcott, Hleb*, Eboue, Fabregas

LW = *Hleb, Vela, Traore, Walcott, Diaby, Eboue

CM = Fabregas, Gilberto, Diaby, Denilson, Song

FW = RVP, Adebayor, Bendtner, Walcott, Vela, Hleb*

8= If Hleb stays but dissing London doesn’t look like he want to hang around. A suitable replacement who isn’t bothered by the old smoke should be brought in.

We already have a good team, we’re covered for every position. No more “bare bones” excuses, we have enough players for every position if needed, plus we’re bringing a few top class experienced players, plus adding a few extra from the youth to come in, so we’ll be neither short of quality nor numbers.

  38. Odub

Finestcuts a bit thin in the old CM department dont you think?!

Add to list – Gibbs, Gilbert, Fran Merida, Randall and Bazazite perhaps.

Also I wouldnt consider Eboue in any other position than waterboy! lol

  39. finestcuts

Yeah Odub, we need someone there but I’m pretty sure that will be one of our “ready made” players.

Eboue can be a cheerleader and do a dance when we score.

  40. arsenal tom

i think with all this talk of next years team hleb should be exlcuded. hes fucking spineless and to be honest after the way hes behaved he doesnt deserve to play for arsenal again.

give him the quiet life he wants…. 2 years in the reserves

  41. finestcuts

Nah, send him to Carlisle……….a quiet mongy town with only a local nuclear power station to boast of. Plus we might get a tenner of ‘em for it while we develop future players in reserves.

  42. gnarleygeorge9

Tony Adams was given the Captaincy @ an ealry age, so why don’t they give Fab4 the gong now so that he can have a long era. He would certainly lead by example, never give up, and is Arsenal through and through. On that note fellas its good night,

  43. Odub

our stiffs are too good for him AT, I’m with FC, Carlisle, Torquay United or even Halifax, get him a pipe and slippers for the quiet nights indoors in front of a log fire as well so he can enjoy his peace and quiet…Bless him.

  44. Pedro

    Good afternoon Grovers!

I have been too upset to post… I am over it now though….

Zarate is a little magician! The type of flair player we don’t have, I’ve seen him 3 times… and I rate him.

Cesc for Captain? Well, it’s not exactly been a good luck charm recently! Who else is there though?

Glad to see Clichy signing up… what a star!

Can anyone update me on what has been going down in Arsenal World?

  45. Latest Arsenal News

Arsene Wenger has this to say about Eboue

“If you look at the number of goals we scored you will see we are near the top of the League,” said Wenger. “A team is first of all a balance, that’s why I am not a fan of going into any individual case.

“You don’t always play a player because he scores goals, you play him because he gives you a balance to the team. We play in a very attacking style and Eboue gives us defensive balance.”

The Arsenal manager did make a comparison of his own – between Eboue and one of his illustrious predecessors on the right side of midfield.

“Ray Parlour did not score many goals on the right side of midfield,” pointed out Wenger. “You look at the numbers and you will be surprised but for me he was a great player for Arsenal Football Club.

“You can not only go on the goals and assists, you must look at the efficiency of the whole team. That’s why Ray Parlour was a great player for us and why Eboue helps us too.

“What counts is how many goals a team scores as a unit and how many chances we create. On that front we can compete with everybody in the League.”

i think we need to be patient about the dude.

  46. arsenal tom

    choy

i think for the first half of the season they were pure class and both even, kolo suffered when he came back from the african nations but we all know what a good player he is.

gallas has been good and is undoubtedly a class CB but im not sure about his attitude, even before the birmingham thing last year he kept talking in the papers saying all the wrong things, im not sure his heart is in arsenal like allot of our player, ive never heard him say anything really passionate about the club

its a tough call but i think id rather have kolo.. his pace, power and heart and the perfect foil for a big destructive defender, plus he’s proved for years he can fit perfectly into this team

  47. Odub

Eh Pedro upset about what exactly?!

No news really, the sites are just recycling the same old same old.

Have you got some comments from me and goonerjay stuck in moderaion btw?

Speaking exclusively to setantasports.com, Florent Malouda’s agent has said that he would be ‘very surprised’ to see Liverpool make an offer for the Chelsea winger.

Malouda, voted Player of the Season in France in 2006/2007, moved to Stamford Bridge with a superstar status.

But the France international failed to make an impression under Jose Mourinho and more recently Avram Grant, as he only appeared 21 times, scoring twice in The Premier League.

Reports have linked him with a move to Rafa Benitez’s side, but his representative Philippe Flavier has distanced his client from a switch to Anfield.

The Frenchman also revealed that he attended a meeting with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, but refused to elaborate on the reason.

“I would be very surprised to receive an offer from Liverpool for Florent, after what happened last year,” Flavier told setantasports.com, in reference to Malouda’s decision to snub The Reds for The Blues in the summer of 2007.

“I met with Arsene Wenger yesterday (on Wednesday), but saying that it is about Florent and Arsenal is a wrong rumour.”

  74. Odub

  75. finestcuts

What do you want me to do lads? Find out if this dude is Ben Arfa’s agent??
I’m a mentalist am I? As in a psychic or looney tune? Or both??

  76. Arsenaldo

    Hi guys!
Imo Song could be a good defen der for us next season,so maybe try him and see how it works. HE is better than Sombreros there anyway. And Toure -Galas is not working well obviously at the back, so why not try Toure as CM to replace flamin-he started as CM his career and likes to shoot .

As for AvramGrant interview: it took him a whole year to understand some things about referees love for manure, but we all know that for years ,dont,we??

  77. Pedro

Just kidding, you don’t need to be on it… it is mainly for the poor souls who can’t recieve Le Grove at work due to blocking problems.

I am a bit pissed off it didn’t work today.

That will get sorted tonight… teething problems!

    Mahatma Ghandi:

“You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.”

“The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world’s problem.”

“If I had no sense of humor, I would long ago have committed suicide.”

    Arsene Wenger’s re-mix re:Eboue

“You must not lose faith in the team. The team is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.”

“The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of Arsenal’s problems.”

“If I had no sense of humor, I would long ago have committed suicide.”

  79. arsenal tom

dont u think song is too short to be a CB tho? we already have a severe lack of height at the back!

  80. Bud

We are not signing a Striker then !

Wenger has said that Vela will be played as a forward as he see’s him more like Eduardo than a winger……………… SSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO…….. that means he WILL be buying a left Winger called Ben Arfa Fowler or Robinihnihihnihnio !!!!!!

  81. Bud

ANd hold on, if Walcott is also a forward next season (with Pleb also looking like leaving), we need a Right Winger as well……. any ideas on who that will be????

This my friends is really exciting me……….. we copuld potentially end up with a new Pires/Ljundberg style Wing Combo !!!!!!!!

  82. Arsenaldo

ArsenalTom-Alex is 1.84 m tall wich is not so bad- 194 would be better I agree, but the guy is young and jumps very well, so compensates well.

  83. Arsenaldo

Wenger said as well Theo will be on the wing next season too, so here we go-no need of new winger

  84. stevie

Out of those three the clear current answer for me is Song. How many time has he actually playing centre midfield in an arsenal shirt? not alot! Whenever I have seen him play there for either Cameroon, us or on load he has been class. I would still say Denilson aint quite ready but hes getting there. Diaby runs with the ball in the wrong places & loses the ball easily.

Song for me all day long,

  85. alex

i am not too sure we are gonna get a striker. we have rvp bendtner and adebayor and after this

“He has played the whole season at Osasuna on the left wing and he had to work hard there. But for me it is not his position he is a central striker, an Eduardo type.”(http://www.arsenal.com/article.asp?thisNav=news&article=491323&cpid=703&title=Wenger+moves+to+bring+Vela+into+the+Arsenal+fold)

arsene is saying he is a striker.

im nervous though isnt vela like 5’8? we have two strikers under 5’10 now which just isnt going to make it in the epl this is not spain.

I really hope ben arfa comes by monday. then by next weekend maybe we can have a defender because the quicker we sign them the longer they have to train with us and get used to how we play.

we were linked with mario gomez?

lads that would be a dream come true! 6 goals in 9 games for germany

we need a german striker who can take a long ball and turn it into a goal like him. now all we need is someone like lahm so we can have someone to rotate clichy and sagna out because if they are tired we dont have good cover

  86. Big Raddy

Easy Alex. Maradona was 5’6″. Michael Owen 5’8″ Gerd Mueller 5’8″ (german – maybe before your time) Alfredo di Stefano 5’6″ (Real Madrid – check his stats on wiki, he was the best). Pele was just 5’8″

As I say to the wife.. ‘size isn’t everything’

  87. GMR

Ben Arfa will be in the Lyon squad for the french cup final on the 24th May so don’t expect to hear anything official about him before then, besides which if sky sports were to be believed his agent reckons he’s going to spuds for talks!!

  88. choy

alex it doesn’t work like that.. most of the first team have gone home or elsewhere… they have to report back in july

  89. Ja_Gunner

Alex I agree with Raddy size isnt everything.

However you are wrong.. Vela is about 5 10 – 5 11. I have seen him he is not short by any means. Theo and Eduardo are short.

Vela is slightly taller than average and then we have the two giraffes….Bendtner and Ade.

I think thats a very good mix.

  90. phatrick

    Peeps,

Denilson is 5’11” Flamini is 5’10” So he is basically the same size as Flamini, but with better ball control. Flamini probably runs around more…. I think AW will plum for Denilson over Diaby or Song. The last few matches of the season would have been an opportunity to look at Song in midfield and Wenger didn’t go for it, however he used Denilson

I think with a bit of a summer bulking up and getting his stamina up a bit ge tready for a Denilson – Fabregas partnership

  91. Pedro

Very sorry Phatrick, your comment was in moderation and I’ve been driving!

I am only catching the end of this debate… but height means nothing if you’re a light weight.

Denilson gets knocked off the ball very easily and I can gaurentee the same will happen with Vela! 19 is very you to make an impact if you are used to the rought and tumble of the Prem… he is used to the easy style of spanish football – culture shock time I believe!

So, week one has passed without any signings!

    Boring…

  92. GMR

Pedro, Vela has really bulked up, he has doubled in size since that picture on Arsenal.com was taken. I said several times that I haven’t been very impressed with him this season at Osasuna but the one thing I would say is that he doesn’t get knocked off the ball very easily & he is usually the one fouling others by knocking them over. Strength will not be an issue with him.

  93. Ja_Gunner

I just saw on http://arsenalanalysis.blogspot.com/ that we are interested in Andrei Arshavin.

I mean seems like Zenit is a good team overall look how they demolished Bayern.

Anyway i feel he is a good Hleb replacement. Is he necessary? or would he take up Theo’s right wing spot and stunt his development?

What do you guys think. If i was manager I would be tempted to sell Hleb and sign Arshavin cuz it doesnt make sense we keep Hleb and he’s not happy. He might not perform or even improve his game.

The only thing i would worry about is since he is a right winger he would take up Theo’s playing time and thus Theo’s game would suffer.

Or is it just better to have a big squad and rotate? This formula seems to work more in knockout competetions ….case in point Liverpool.

We could continue to use Theo as super sub but he really wants to play and wouldntt be happy with bench again.

    What do you guys think?

  94. GMR

Pedro, the rumour doing the rounds at that Friar/AST meeting was that the signing would be announced on friday. I certainly wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for it though & as I say it was a rumour. I doubt the AST have any more information than anyone else when it comes to new players.

I think this is going to be 3 very long weeks, I say 3 because you know with Arsenal when they give a time frame its always the latter, nothing ever gets done quickly. It wouldn’t even surprise me if nothing happens until August & then Wenger will say he was talking about Vela coming to the club as being a new signing!!

  95. choy

lol GMR.. i doubt wenger would do such a thing…

but yes.. arsenal dilly dallies and we may make a signing on the last day ala diarra….

    spuds have signed
    chelsea have signed
    pool has signed..

i reckon by next week we will see our first signing..

does anyone know how the new kit is going to look like? is it the one being circulated on the net?

  96. Pedro

Ja, I think if Hleb leaves, we will sign that Zarate guy. He is like a more penetrative Hleb… you can’t get the ball off him!

Buying a player off Zenit will be nigh on impossible… they are owned by Gazprom (Right GMR?).

I would be chuffed if we signed someone tomorrow… it could only be Barry or Kompany though?

I can’t think of anyone else who is available at the moment!
