So then, it is official. Hleb is leaving for Inter Milan,

By official I mean that agents seem to dictate to Arsenal, not the other way round. Tut Tut. Those words coming from the same agent who said,
‘But Alex loves life at Arsenal. He feels he is at the best club in the world.’
‘He has the ideal manager, he loves his team-mates and loves London. Why would he want to leave?’
Clearly an agent of class. Not as classy as Adebayor’s agent who is believed to be demanding £80k a week or his client will be off. You know what? Fuck off to the both of you.
If both stories really are true, Wenger has no one to blame but himself. He created this monster and now it is up to him to kill it. He has a degree in Economics - clearly not one in people management. All these players that are leaving are his, he knew their characters when he signed them so he should not be surprised.
The issue I have is that Arsenal are one of the biggest clubs in the world, when a player turns to them and says,
‘I am off’
Arsenal/Arsene should tell them to fuck off. If they don’t like it, rot in the reserves for a season… then we’ll decide what to do with you.
We sign them for peanuts, so we’re not losing out are we?
Every time we let a disgruntled player leave, we make it more and more acceptable for the others to follow suit. At least back in the old days we’d get at least a few seasons of class out of our players before they started whinging. Diarra gave us 3 months, Flamini gave us one good season as did Hleb (Unproductive at that).

People will say they are only demanding what they are worth… well, the flip side is that when we sign them we pay them more than any other club. That is how we get so many youngsters to join us and that is why our wage bill is so high. They already get paid well. Do people really believe after 1 season of promise, Ade is now worth £80k p/w?
Season after season we seem to have to deal with greedy bastard player leaving for the greener grass of another country/club. Cashley, Sol, Thierry, Diarra, PV04, Anelka, Petit, Overmars…
How many big name superstars have left Chelsea, Liverpool or ManU recently… on their terms?

If the story is true Hleb is no better than the fat little chav cashley. Meets another team before one of our biggest games of the season then says I want to stay whilst all the while engineering a way out. I mentioned this last night, I actually dont read too much into the Ade story. In light of Flamini and Pleb, the press have sniffed blood and I expect to see a lot more of this in the coming days. They based their story on this comment from Ade’s agent
‘Now is not the time to talk about his contract. We’ll wait until next week.’
Given that Ade is currently reported to be on 35k a week and the fact he has just scored 30 goals in a season then I would expect that they would be talking to the club after the season has finished. I would also expect that the agent would probably ask for around 80k a week, but did they threaten to leave if they didn’t get it, I doubt it, it is hardly a great statement to make in the opening round of contract negotiations
The press are very good at asking the right questions to get the response they want, they then read into it and print what they like.
As for Hleb, although all the papers are quoting a Belarusian newspaper (which could be the equivalent of the Star or Daily Sport for all we know) I think there is no smoke without fire especially with Arsene’s comments on the matter. However I have read that Pleb would need to face a tribunal if he wanted to invoke the 2yr law and would have to give his grieviences to justify leaving, so again I think Arsene’s comments are made to try and bleed as much out of Inter as possible especially with an illegal tapping up threat behind it. Arsene knows (again sorry for putting those words next to each other) Pleb is off, I just hope he replaces him and does not promote from within otherwise a subs bench like last Sunday will become a regular occurance.

Damn right! This happens every friggin year. We rarely have new world class signings to be excited about- our excitement has to come from whether or not one of our players will stay or go. I knew this would one day really bite us in the ass and think this could be the year. I don’t want to be pessimistic but if Cesc’s two best mates at the club have gone is there a chance he might follow suit? We need players that will fight for the club and not the money- even if we won the prem I still think Flamini and Hleb would have left for the tax free money in Italy.

I totally agree with everything you said there its starting to get to me. As soon as arsene builds a team that looks like its got some sort of potential, key players leave. Weve had 3 trophyl;ess seasons with wenger saying the current crop of youngsters will come good, well it looks like theyll come good… only at different clubs. I dont think modern players have herd of the word loyalty and market forces dictate that if we dont pay players enough they will leave to join a club that will. and thats the problem the board/wenger are too tight to pay players what they want where as the manus chelseas etc are not.like it or lump it players have clubs by the short and curlys, giving in to their wage demands is wrong but necessary if we are ever going to win anything.

I think we could kick on from that. Hleb isn’t a big loss for me… its great being able to hold the ball up, but if you aren’t setting goals up and you aren’t scoring them… then there is a better player out there!

I think AW sees Hleb as an the most important player to replace. He helped the Flamster by keeping his departure quiet till after the Everton game, it also helped himself from hearing the discontent from the fans. AW knows that he already has a replacement for Ade and he probably has something to do with the rumours. First of all, I don’t believe Adebayor is leaving. But then again, it doesn’t matter what I do or don’t believe, the fact is, Adebayor CAN orchestrate a move, as long as there is a demand on the market like there clearly is in Italy and Spain.

If we sell Adebayor it won’t be for anything less than for Torres. The panic generated is by the Webster clause which does NOT apply to Adebayor. If a club looking to buy Hleb pays us what he’s worth plus ade, we could be sitting on a 50m war chest as well as what we have already.

Now that is a quality setup. Of course they’re going to twist Arsene’s arm if they can get away with…and they can.

When it comes to money theres the old “same to me as it is to you” argument.
We’re good enough to cope with circumstances, and we have the management to bring in top quality.
Is Ade replacable? Yes…he won’t achieve anywhere near his tally at another club.
Is Hleb? Sure thing, with Barry in the middle we can go for the more direct approach with Vela and Walcott providing more than adequate link up service + goals. The team is actually full of untapped potential.
Like in midfield we should have had at least 10 more goals in midfield (5 from Eboue, 2 from Flamini, 3 from Hleb). Even with our sloppy defence, those 10 more goals could have got us extra points. We could have got an extra 5 up front at least from Adebayor’s easy chances.
And we could have reduced the amount of goals shipped by about 5.
Therefore there are about an extra + 20 goals goal difference potentially we could get just from minor adjustments.
Arsenal are a really attractive club for top players to join right now, no queues for the best to play unlike in some clubs. Lets get this transfer season rolling, we have improvements to make, and we’ll get there.

They keep their players because they look after the good ones and the rest are average so no one wants them anyway. What a pisser this is. Helb is not easily relaced. He is a magician. Flamini can be replaced becasue his main attribute is aendeavour, but Hleb’s is skill and an eye for the killer pass. That is a rarity and very difficult to replace.
BUT his style of play does slow us down for the quick attack.

The Ade story is just Daily Mail bullcrap, Hleb I believe there is more substance. In both cases I truely hope they both leave, anyone who thinks they are top quality effective players have bought into the hysteria that surrounds them. They are no where near as good as they or their agents think they are.
Having scored 30 goals this season, Ade and his agent probably think they deserve to be on par with other top players. If I were Wenger I would use the opportunity to sell him for as much as possible to any club who has also bought into the myth he is a quality player.
The minute I heard Hleb was negotiating terms with Inter on the eve of our match with AC, he ceased to be an Arsenal player in my eyes. Even if these players are persuaded to stay and are given what they want does any believe these two are prepared to run their socks of the club? I dont. Get rid Arsene, get as much as you can and bring in better players and sod the finances for once.

Fellow Grovers, We have to get real here. The days of loyalty to a club are over. The one/two club players are a rarity and will become even more scarce as time goes on.
Players have got so much power that even a signed contract means nothing.

As loathe as I am to say it, but is this time Arsenal need to realise that we going to need a wealthy investor. I have held on to the belief that Arsenals way of football will always outshine the other big clubs who spend billions on new players each year. Arsenal relys on the philsophy of good football, whereas the other clubs rely on highly skilled players at the top of their trade. I have no doubt if Arsenal replace all 3 with some relatively unknowns we would still be in the top 4, BUT! All these wealthy investors have increased the stakes, we cannot get away with our wage structure in this day and age, even 3 years ago it was looking to small!
So maybe its time we got an investor that instead of spending 30 million on one player, could up the salaries of the current squad. In all honesty everyone wants more money, i know i would leave my job in a heartbeat if i knew other people in my profession were earning for more than me elsewhere. i think it is a joke that Ade is on 35k a week, when you have lesser players on double that.

Good post Pedro. I just think Wenger is a bit naive at times, thinking that all of the players are totally bought into his dream and his vision, which is to prove he can win the Premier League by not spending big and bringing through kids etc. Most players these days have a mercenary streak in them and will go where the money is. I don’t like it but I can see it is going to happen, so why can’t the club?
As for Helb I won’t miss him, he drives me mad. His end product is bloody poor and I am sure AW could find better, although it would come at a price. And therein lies the problem, the money. At least if they are going to go it is happening now and not in August. There is time to sort out replacements.
Big summer ahead for AW and he is going to need that chequebook.

It’s pretty embarrassing at Arsenal right now actually….just reams of people walking away from this historic and proud club. In very recent times we have seen Dein walk out, Henry fuck off to spain, Ljungberg leave for Wham, Sol leave, Cashley leave, Edelman gone, Flamini gone, Hleb going and in the summer it looks like both Akers and Lewin will be departing too.
Who has come in during that period? Eduardo, Sagna and some 11 year olds.
Now our best players are open to bids. It’s sick. Cesc says similar by dumping his agent. So why are they still pursuing Cesc but not Ronaldo? Because Cesc can be got….simple. Ronaldo is on about 110,000 per week with his new deal. That is crazy. Big Raddy you are a legend pal. Freddie was in fact not a tough guy. Tough guys don’t fall over at the slightest touch. He scored some great goals but I could have scored goals with the great DB10 and Bobby, Overmars, Petit, Edu, TH14, ect laying them on. Wiltord was better all round than Fred and he never got the chances form the boss. Fred even put Theo back a season as he got the nod 2 years back when Theo was the only fit Striker.

I knew I would get flak for my Freddie rant. but he did many seasons in a great team and for me he was our weak link. Theo was sixteen and aregular forward for Southampton he just broke into the England team. AW had no fit strikers so he chooses to leave Freddie up front. I remember Theos old man being livid as i was stewarding in East upper at the time. This happened a few times. Then Freddie goes and we find Theo played on the wing in the spot the great red haired grass eater took up before. Yes Theo went backwards for a while after this. Theo should be like Cesc on a lot more games by now. My opinion sorry guys.

Big Raddy you answered your own question mate DB10 was the best player to ever wear an Arsenal shirt. Sorry I can’t change my mind regarding Fred I saw to many games where he stood hands on hips while Ralphie was getting run ragged. He was a midfielder not our CF. I will drop my Fred rant pal as it isn’t doing me any favours.

1. The Flaminis of this world are easily replacable.
2. Hleb is rubbish. Plain rubbish. It’ll be the highlight of my summer if he leaves. Firstly, because I can’t stand him and secondly because it’ll mean Wenger will have to buy someone to replace him and anyone is preferable to Hleb.

wouldnt be surprised if Cesc is the next on to want out. What reason would he have to stay at the Emirates apart from the fact that Arsenal is a “massive-massive” club? To be honest, Le Boss needs to show commitment by signing proven and decent players like the ones we’ve all been discussing about, not just bringing in Bakery WHO or Oleg WotDaFuk to the squad.

One of the incoming players has to be of World Class. We need someone to be the ‘face’ of Arsenal. I travelled the world a couple a year ago and everywhere I went TH’s face was plastered on the walls. It was him, Becks, Ronaldinho, Lamps (!), Totti, Ronaldo and Raul.
That is why I say we should buy Ronaldinho. It shows the rest of the world that we are a big club. And he is a fabulous player, only 28, and a left winger/playmaker.

When he was at his peak, he was phenomenal.
He is old and his legs have had it, that is why he was sold El Tel. I don’t think you can base an argument around his current situation and form.

Yup but there are 2 sides to the Diarra story. one is that Arsenal should have “made him” stay…..a bit like when Chelsea made Gallas stay, the boy didn”t want an Arsenal career, he just wanted to play football. Has he set the world on fire at Pompey? Not yet….he’s not ready made yet.
I’m for the “ready made replacements” that’ll cos us, but you can’t have a night out in Knightsbridge and get a taxi (not mini-cab) home without shelling out.
Diarra to me is like Brixton, close to the main action, up and coming but still rough and in need of improvement…plenty of potential there though.
