Okay, following yesterdays poll of who would the Grovers like to see the boss buy this summer, we had nearly 500 comments and many interesting suggestions, so you all felt passionate, the short list was drawn up from the following,
Ferdinand (Anton), Schweinsteiger, Ben Arfa, Robinho, Richards, Caceras, Zapata, Dos Santos, YaYa Toure, Alex, Benzema, Diego, Villa, Kerlon, Velosa, Gomez, Buffon, Nesta, Lucio, Eto’o, Barry, Huntelaar and Lescott.
It was close and Robinho was felt to be the choice but you also believed he wouldn’t be on the radar, same with Huntelaar, Benzema and Richards so the final choice could have been different, but this was your pick.
Buffon, Kompany, Ya Ya Toure, Ben Arfa and David Villa. Will we see them at the Grove next season? Who knows, (except Arsene of course!) but at least we all know who we would chose.
Someone even suggested Paula Radcliffe, but I think that was tongue in cheek Raddy!
I would like to add that I think Walcott will be like a new signing next season, stronger, quicker and more confident and like Ade, could explode with goals. Ade I think will improve and work on his first touch, as he says, he could had have 10 more, which is honest and I like that, if we have a fit RVP, Rosicky and Eduardo there’s more there too.
We also have Barazite and Vela coming on board and the most important thing is we won’t have an Henry/Flamini situation, is he staying? is he going? Which I think is massively detrimental throughout a season and should not be allowed to ever happen again, take note Arsene.
I really believe that next season could be the one, but we have to buy and the list we have put forward is impressive to say the least, Arsene, are you reading?

well the way i see it is ade and bands are so close in stature , level of ability etc.

We’re not letting him go….he thinks he’s already world class instead of staying on at Arsenal and improving the other aspects of his game, he’s the one orchestrating all this nonsense, and some dodgy Italian geezer just has to flash a bit of ice cream at him to get him talking shop out of sight. He doesn’t regularly get MOM awards, he has won a few and he is a useful player, an above average player but he lacks scoring ability and pretty much exclusive relies on link up play to get his credit. A true player is a player in his own right.

Wenger has been lied to by Flamini, now Hleb and we’ve got to find a way of getting players to keep their word. What does Flamini’s word mean? Or Hleb’s? Why is it in other walks of life you’re held to your word but not in football. They implicitly stated they wanted to continue playing for Arsenal. There should be something binding to such cheap talk, something that makes the player COMPLETELY UNAVAILABLE in the transfer market if they make a statement like that, a rule which clearly makes it known which players are available and which aren’t. If the player dithers, they should be put on available, once a players heart is no longer with the team they play for, it lowers their performance a tad.
If you want to continue playing for Arsenal, in future make a binding agreement with the club before the start of the transfer window so we know who we need to buy. We’re going to buy for hlebs position anyway, we can’t afford not to hedge, but in future the available and unavailable rule would ensure before the start of transfer season which players we need to buy, and players on unavailable should only be authorised as available by the clubs’ manager.
That would completely solve things, legally binding pledges not some “I want to stay, I like it here” furry, runaway talk.

Paulinho, you obviously think Hleb is gravy and everyone has their own interpretations of what a good player is. A true player in his own right is a massive player like Henry, Fabregas, C. Ronaldo, R.Giggs, Cruyff, Van Basten,Kaka, Eusebio, George Best …a true complete player, a real champion,, anything else is a true player wannabe like Adebayor, Hleb….they’ve got the talent but haven’t yet proved their class or potential to ground breaking proportion.

This could be a blessing in disguise, Hleb, Ade, Flamster are very good players but we do have ready replacements at the club. Hleb/Diaby. Ade/Bendtner Flamster/Dennilson.
There will be guys saying this is bollocks but the players leaving have taken as much stick form the fans as they have had support.
We also have Theo who should be up the middle next season, RVP and Sicky along with Bert if he stays.
The replacements will give more as they won’t get frustrated being in and out of the side all the time.
We also have to sign a couple of very good players and this might make AW think about a superstar to stop the club from being branded a feeder club.
I know Aw wants us to be like Ajax but the 70s version would be better than the feeder club they are today.

Wenger needs to start signing players around the ages of 26-27. Those players will mostly see out their contracts as they’ll be seeing Arsenal as the last move of their career. Hleb although 27 now was only 24 when we signed him & after making his name he sees an escape route to a supposedly bigger club.
I cannot believe Wenger hasn’t realised that young players join us for 2 reasons. Firstly because we pay them more than any other club would at that stage of their careers & secondly because Arsenal are still a big enough club for them to make their names & they know the scouts from the big european teams will be watching them.
Vela has already said he only wanted to play in spain, yet Arsenal offered him much larger wages than any spanish team were prepared to pay & so he joined us. Admittedly since then he has said he’s excited about joining up with Arsenal but once he makes his name how long will it be before he wants to join Madrid or Barca??
This is in danger of spiralling outta control, we get the youngsters and/or relative unknowns into the first team. Train them, raise their profiles and once they get to a good level lose them to another club purely based on the fact that we are running an out of date approach to wages and contracts……alright maybe not in the case of Hleb, but if he can get double what we’re paying him elsewhere, why not move……..it’s about time AW and AFC woke up and smelt the coffee, if they wanna compete they gotta invest in the playing staff, and that means competing in wages as well as competing for signatures of established players. They can spout on all day and all night about wage structues and paying a fair price etc etc, fine then they can forget about competing to win anything because the ball-game has changed and you either go with it or accept mediocrity.
My gut feeling is that the tossers who are running the club are happy for Wenger’s conveyor belt to continue to produce cheap players that get us into the CL on the cheap. And, if we win anything it’s purely a bonus. But, if we lose one or two players every year to a “richer” club, so be it. I truly don’t believe that any ambitious club can be happy to have this policy, and with comments like “Arsene’s under no pressure to deliver trophies” coming from Hill-Wood is a fucking disgrace. What message does that send out to the players….”don’t worry chaps, if we don’t win anything it doesn’t matter, we play pretty football”………..However, it’s an understandable statement if the board are purely interested in being in it purely for profits………..these mugs need to be reminded of why we’re all here…………….for great glory of Arsenal Football Club.

Did anyone else hear Wenger answering the question about the academy & lack of players from it. He even says that the next batch should produce 2 players good enough to play for Arsenal.
Is he taking the p***. All that money invested into the academy each year & we are producing nothing & its not just local kids either but foreigners that we are paying big money for.
If his answer was an honest one then Arsenal should scrap the academy that Wenger says is costing them over 5 million a season. You could buy a player each season with that sort of money rather than spending 12 years to develop 2 who may be good enough.
