Ben Arfa, Kompany, Buffon, Ya Ya and Villa are all on the list!

Okay, following yesterdays poll of who would the Grovers like to see the boss buy this summer, we had nearly 500 comments and many interesting suggestions, so you all felt passionate, the short list was drawn up from the following,

Ferdinand (Anton), Schweinsteiger, Ben Arfa, Robinho, Richards, Caceras, Zapata, Dos Santos, YaYa Toure, Alex, Benzema, Diego, Villa, Kerlon, Velosa, Gomez, Buffon, Nesta, Lucio, Eto’o, Barry, Huntelaar and Lescott.

It was close and Robinho was felt to be the choice but you also believed he wouldn’t be on the radar, same with Huntelaar, Benzema and Richards so the final choice could have been different, but this was your pick.

Buffon, Kompany, Ya Ya Toure, Ben Arfa and David Villa. Will we see them at the Grove next season? Who knows, (except Arsene of course!) but at least we all know who we would chose.

Someone even suggested Paula Radcliffe, but I think that was tongue in cheek Raddy!

I would like to add that I think Walcott will be like a new signing next season, stronger, quicker and more confident and like Ade, could explode with goals. Ade I think will improve and work on his first touch, as he says, he could had have 10 more, which is honest and I like that, if we have a fit RVP, Rosicky and Eduardo there’s more there too.

We also have Barazite and Vela coming on board and the most important thing is we won’t have an Henry/Flamini situation, is he staying? is he going? Which I think is massively detrimental throughout a season and should not be allowed to ever happen again, take note Arsene.

I really believe that next season could be the one, but we have to buy and the list we have put forward is impressive to say the least, Arsene, are you reading?

Given the nature of yesterdays post we only had 2 AKB’s on all day, which either shows people are beginning to stand up to the bullying or the AKB’s are all back at infants school.

Plenty to ponder today Grovers.

  1. Pedro says:

Nice one Geoff, how long did it take you to go through all the names!

Yaya has gone in for an operation, so lets cross him off the list!

Did you read that ManU are to bid £8million for that Winger we gave to Steve Bruce?

Another cracking bit of Business from Arsenal!

  2. Big Raddy says:

I stand by my choice of Paula Radcliffe over Eboue ! She has better stamina and covers more ground.

  3. DC says:

Rosicky for Mayor of Le List for next Year!

And joint first place Taylor (Brum) and Flamini for chump of the year! Not that I’m bitter of course!!

Le Champ of the year has to be Cesc me think…. Great on the pitch performances and great handling of the media….

Love the F-Day!! We need one for Madrid too! Leave Cesc the @#ck alone!!

  4. Pedro says:

    I agree…

How about we draft in one of the women? They seem to be doing very well lately and they all have experience of winning trophies?

Barry is in talks with Villa today… could be interesting! At least we know Liverpool and ManU wont get him…

  5. Harry Barracuda says:

Nesta is 32 and he’d get murdered in the premiership.

  6. Ollie says:

Why Do I miss Everything Interesting!!!
Lol, Iv been out of the loop for the last 2 days, I tore some soft tissue in my knee, but it isnt bad as everyone thought. Schweinstiger, Dos Santos and Kerlon for me!

  7. arsenal tom says:

fantastic list an well done for sorting but i have to say thats probably the more un-arsenal like shopping list ive ever seen!!! then again its nice to dream… even if we got 2/3 of the 5 id be over the moon!

  8. GunnerShabz says:

Wilson Palacios, central midfielder, work horse engine man utd want him for next season

Pep Guardiola will push to have several of Barcelona’s fringe players offloaded should he succeed Frank Rijkaard as coach.
DiarioSport says those Guardiola doesn’t see as part of his plans for next season are Eidur Gudjohnsen, Ronaldinho, Pinto, Thierry Henry, Edmilson, Giovani dos Santos, Santi Ezquerro, Lilian Thuram, Oleguer, Yaya Toure and Albert Jorquera.

Assistant coach Johan Neeskens will follow Rijkaard out of the Nou Camp, with Eusebio Unzue also expected to leave.

    Giovani dos Santos wonderkid
    Ronaldinho of course….

    Yaya Toure is available too

  9. arsenal tom says:

    wenger on the hleb…

“What people say about the buy-out clause, it is not as simple as it looks,” said the Frenchman. “It is much more difficult and the clubs are reluctant to do that [invoke the 'Webster Clause'].

“We want to keep Hleb, we want him to be part of our team next year. It is as simple as that. We have lost one player [Mathieu Flamini], we do not want to lose more.”

  10. Pedro says:

I thought Palacios was a winger?

  11. Pedro says:

Regardless… we could have picked him up for a million and flogged him for £8mill!

  12. Pedro says:

    Setanta.com

“I want to stay at the club,” Gilberto said in The Daily Star. “I enjoy being at Arsenal – the people, the atmosphere, the football, everything about it here.

“I don’t know if the club have received any offers and the situation could change if the club gets one.

“Then we will speak about it and sort out what is best for both of us.

“I plan to go on holiday back to Brazil to think things over and see what happens.

“But at the moment I plan to return to the club after my holiday because I do not know what the club are thinking.

“I cannot say whether I will be here or not next season.

“Managers make plans, but then things happen at the end of the season that they didn’t expect to happen.”

Good man Bertie! I want you to stay!

  13. Mark C says:

Robinho must be good, he is on the list twice.

Interesting to see the number of English players on the list, I am surprised gareth Barry is not on the list.

Any quality players without Egos gladly received !!!

  14. DC says:

    Palacios is a CM if I remember rightly… Can’t believe Man U want him….

  15. GunnerShabz says:

If people want to leave, let them leave i think we should have a summer clear out in my opinion.

    Eboue, Senderos, Gallas, Hleb, Rosicky

lets just get rid of the dead wood and buy

giovani dos santos, zapata, garay, ben arfa, diego

and buy an experienced player like lillian thuram to just hold the defence together

  16. Cheshire Gooner says:

Nice one Raddy, after all Eboue’s been taking the piss for weeks whereas Paula Radcliffe …..

  17. DC says:

Would you swap Ade for Eto”o?????

  18. Pedro says:

    Good spot Mark.

  19. GunnerShabz says:

To be honest, i would not swap Adey for eto;o

i watched etoo against man utd and he was shit, at least adey had some chances to score and made something out of nothing

  20. choy says:

nesta wouldn’t get murdered.. he’s corleone blood

  21. arsenal tom says:

APPARENTELY AT THE SUPPORTERS TRUST MEETING WENGER ADMITTED HE TRIED TO SIGN WOODGATE IN JAN BUT FOUND THAT HE WAS IN ‘ADVANCED TALKS’ WITH TOTTENHAM. BIT OF A SHAME, HES CLASS AND SEEMS TO HAVE SHACKEN OFF HIS INJURY PROBLEMS!

  22. London says:

Pedro: I cannot believe you have fallen for this idea that man u are seriously interested in Palacios. It is obvoiusly a ploy to try to lessen Wigan’s resolve before Sunday’s game. Last week fergurson wanted to buy Ashton. I wouldn’t put it past him to say he always wanted to buy Terry before the CL final.

  23. DC says:

I don’t know much about Eto’o.. Haven’t seen him play in ages… Perhaps his reputation supercedes him… But i think, better the devil you know n all that!!

  24. GMR says:

What nutters suggested Kerlon?? This guy got turned down by Man Utd, went on trial with Middlesbrough & was laughed out the club!!

I think someone’s been watching too much youtube!!

  25. Pedro says:

I think he’s technical ability would make sure he didn’t get murdered! He is big as well.

Ade for Eto’o? No way… For all his faults, you can’t knock his goals and his health. Eto’o is a great poacher, but he isn’t getting any younger and he is mighty injury prone!

  26. GunnerShabz says:

Barca lost 4-1 to real madrid last night

theirry henry was in the starting eleven oh my

but i know if wenger bought jonathon woodgate in january we would have won the league… am convinced of it

  27. Big Raddy says:

Woodgate would have been a fine signing, and it shows that AW has concerns about the CB position if he tried to sign him . Someone is definitely going if that is the case

  28. GunnerShabz says:

but if we did sign “woody” am sure we would of won the premiership, i always rated him as a centreback hence why real madrid had him, its a shame he was always injured but a real quality player

  29. GunnerShabz says:

to be honest spuds have king-woodgate centre back combo and that is a good one, something we need actually

  30. Evo in OZ says:

Good positve post Geoff, hopefully the comments can be positve as well!

Can we put Gouffran (Caen) on the list and Podolski!

  31. KJS says:

Had to leave yesterdays blog in the afternoon, did Cuellar ever get a mention – I think he has looked impressive at the back for Rangers in Europe this season. However, as impressed as I have ben it is tinged with the fact that Boumsong also once looked impresive at Rangers !!

  32. GunnerShabz says:

But honest guys, do u think all these names coming through he will sign a big name player.

the only one that comes to my mind is Davor Suker and he was like in his 30s but a great signing. experienced and great finisher

  33. Stupid says:

pure bull that story about palacios, he is nowhere near good enough to play first team for a top premiership club.

agent bigging him up to secure a sizeable wage rise from wigan, no doubt.

he is probably only on around 7 or 8 k a week at the moment.

  34. Geoff says:

Thanks Evo, I think they were mentioned yesterday but only once, it was difficult to put them all on as there were so many!

KJS – Cueller didn’t but we can discuss him today.

  35. Geoff says:

Hey Stupid, what happened to your shoe in at ManU for Flamini?

  36. GunnerShabz says:

Come on wenger sort out Abou Diaby, this summer just work with him with his composure and tackling and he will be in the central midfield

  37. DennisDaMenace says:

    Gilberto Silva = Top Bloke………

  38. Pedro says:

Ok, I have been duped by the Palacios story…

  39. GMR says:

King is leaving spurs. Ramos pretty much admitted that & like Berbatov they left him out the new kit photo shoot.

Not surprising really considering the guy only plays 1 or 2 games a season. I think he’d fit in well at Arsenal with that ratio!!

  40. GunnerShabz says:

Wilson Palacios, few weeks back the sun covered a story united want to buy antonio valencia and palacios but now we know they play them last game of the season, so i think it just to put more pressure on them two to perform on the day

  41. Finestcuts says:

    Almunia, approx 3m.

Sagna approx 6m. Kolo Toure 150k, Gallas free, Clichy 250k

    About 6.5 mill in defence

Walcott 12 mil, Fabregas free, Flamini Free, Hleb 8m

    Midfield = 20m

    Adebayor 7m, RVP 2.75 mil

    Attack = 9.75 mil

Altogether = approx 39.25 mill for our first team. Less than Ferdinand and Rooney. Rosicky, Eduardo, Fabianski and Nordveit cost a few bob as well and so did Eduardo but even then it would only be pushing us just above 50mill

That is how much it cost us to build our team and 7/11 were “ready made”

ie. Hleb, Sagna, Gallas and RVP.

I think we’ll see similar business to the style done last year, if we buy a few for development purposes, no probs at all. Will we have a couple of first 11 top quality in there as well? I’m positive that we’ll have a couple of additions.

1 ready made in defence for Gallas, one for Falmini, with Vela and Walcott the theme on the wings next year the panic generated by Flamini saying goodbye and Hleb leaving is out of proportion. If Hleb stays great…we have Hleb Traore and Clichy….but even if we got 2 “top quality” ready mades we’re ready to fight again.

    Almunia

    Sagna, Toure, ?replacemnt?, Clichy
    Walcott, Fabregas, ?replacement?, Vela
    Adebayor, RVP

The bulk of backup we already have in reserves and those stepping up. If Wenger gets 1CB and 1 CM midfield + anything more we will be very strong. Eboue has been our glass jaw and as for Don Sylvio claiming he’s got “the best midfielder in the world”, you’re a master of bullshit and Shevchenko’s biggest fan, best striker in the world according to you as well, we’ll see you at the San Siro and beat you again, you’ll be so shocked you won’t even be able to eat your wife’s best Ravioli after we’ve finished with you in the CL league again.

Arsenal’s challenge to players will be met by those who really want to win trophies in the colours of Arsenal…..a challenge the best players will rise to.

  42. chris says:

    well said ade,
As a footballer you want to make history and leave your name at a club.
“I hope I can do that here as I love Arsenal. Hopefully I can make some more history.
“I’m at the right team at the right time, playing good football and scoring goals so I’m happy.
“The most important thing is playing for the fans and having the opportunity to play with so many great players.”

  43. choy says:

    lol

  44. jimmyfingers says:

People se that West Ham are offering Freddie 3mill to tear up his contract? 3 years left and 75g a week. Didn’t he leave because he wanted to win things?

Shouldn’t be bitter: he was a great servant to the club in his pomp. Can’t believe he was on 75g a week, no wonder they’re desperate to let him go. He should take the cash and head back to Sweden to play, or summat, can’t cut it at the top level anymore

But the Arsenal curse strikes once more. Think Arsenal and Wenger’s way flatters players. The only players off the top of my head that went onto better things were van Bronkhurst and Silvinho, both who parted amicably

  45. arsenal tom says:

apparentely Cuellar is on his to the scum for about 10 mil

  46. chris says:

also well said bertie, i hope he stays

  47. Finestcuts says:

Even if we stuck Gilberto and Song in those slots for next season we have an excellent chance of winning, lets not undervalue what we’ve got….so anything Arsene brings in will be a massive improvement on an already great team.

  48. Stupid says:

geoff – you not read the press?

    flamini signed for meelan.

    lol @ u geoffrey

    still bitter i see.

  49. jimmyfingers says:

We should get King in, give Rosiscky someone to chat to

  50. Stupid says:

    he has RVP.

  51. Evo in OZ says:

I would take Berbatov as well!

  52. arsenal tom says:

    and eddy

  53. jasonz says:

all the list is too many…arsenal have how many money to get them???or trade key’s players like ade.cesc.hleb to villa ,eto’o,niko???i think take on the robinho and a keeper and eto’o

  54. Stupid says:

eddy is with goofy on copa cabana beach :)

  55. Richard Goh says:

Don’t believe we have the money(pse someone let me know is it 25 mil or what???).

  56. jimmyfingers says:

    not at the moment!

  57. Big Raddy says:

Defensive Midfielder? How about Carluka from Man City ?

Right FC, Song played the DM role in the AFC and looked the dogs. Typical AW to play him at CB, when we really need to know if he can take Flamini’s place

  58. Geoff says:

Stupid I wasn’t having a pop, I was wondering who your man in the know was! are you still talking to him?

  59. Duck says:

It certainly spells the end for Senderos. He’s not even featured in our remaining games and Arsene IS looking for a new CB. PLaying Song there instead of him… Well, while i don’t have any idea who may be the best player for us in CB, but Micah Richards certainly be considered as one of them.

I don’t see how a foreign player can fit in there unless he’s already an established player.

  60. Stupid says:

yeah i still talk to him, i never stated he was a shoe in to move there.

all i was told was the he was DEFO tapped up by manure reps over xmas when it became known in football circles that he was gonna do one on a free.

  61. Geoff says:

Fair do’s then, we’ll see who comes in to replace him, I hope it’s not Song though.

  62. Stupid says:

flamini will talk once the move is through on july 1st.

he may then acknowledge all the clubs that chased him… and my man is totally convinced that manure were the first after him.

  63. Stupid says:

    the fucking northern monkeys.

  64. Geoff says:

    Yeah, wankers!

  65. jules says:

” if we had a fit rvp , rosicksy etc etc . God im fed up hearing that . They are not , they have not been ,they probably won,t be , infact rvp is getting worse in terms of turning out by the season . so you have a bigger squad don,t you !!?? , i am not saying sell them as they are quality but they can not be relied upon. i would love robinho but can not see us paying his wages, shame . I really thought moving to this great new stadium was meant to make us a big force in europe was’nt it ?? then i hear hill wood saying lets hope arsene can sign some world class players on a “shoestring” !!!! w t f ! dissapointing .

  66. Evo in OZ says:

Senderos was injured (ok to sit on bench) and Wenger wanted to take a look at Song, it doesnt spell anything in my opinion!

  67. choy says:

how can sunderland and other clubs have more money than us to spend?!!!

  68. Geoff says:

    Cesc we looooooove you!

Cesc Fabregas, a £35million target for Real Madrid. He said: “I am young and happy at Arsenal. I regard them as one of the biggest clubs and Wenger is like a father to me on the pitch.”

    End of that fucking story.

  69. jules says:

excactly choy ! try buying our 7 quid burger and chips on a shoestring peter

  70. Finestcuts says:

Choy they can spunk their money on names, but where has it got them?
A lot of teams are prepared to spend big money on any old average unlike us…the player has to be top quality and the right price.

Arsenal have money, if needed we could borrow more like other clubs, but apart from Blackburn we have got the greatest value for money from players we’ve brought in and trained ourselves.

I’ll have the same as last year, some top quality to beef up our first 11.

  71. Hughsie says:

Apparently Flamini was on about a $5,000 per week contract at Arsenal before the latest offer.

  72. Finestcuts says:

Two established quality first 11 needed a la Eduardo + Sagna + the Toures, Clichys and
    Fabregases of the future.

  73. Finestcuts says:

Hughsire, he was on about 25k a week, they offered to double his wages which was not good enough for him.

  74. Big Raddy says:

Flam’s history. Hopefully Arse learn from the mistakes made (fat chance !) and make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Speculation about new players is much more fun…. how about SWP? No-one mentins him, and I think he is ideal for us. With a run in the team he can rediscover the talent that made him worth £20+ mill.

  75. chris says:

your kidding big raddy, he is mentioned practically on a daily basis (SWP)

  76. Frichie says:

I really dont see why we need Superstars to come in, we know Wenger will pluck some unknown from some obscure place, and he will fit into the teams style. Just look at the Carling cup and see how our youngsters can tear apart premier league first teams! Its not because those players are better quality than their opposition, talented they may be, but its because of the way Arsenal plays that all our players (except Eboue) look so good. One of the reasons I dont think Flamini is going to enjoy his time in Milan.

One comment on Woodgate, if we had gotten him and knowing our luck he would have played one game and then got injured!

  78. MeanLean says:

I read this comment on ACLF I had to share it, what do you guys think?

“Think about what you are saying.

What if ‘in all probabilities’ they do not get paid off in terms of success.

For the sake of argument; say we did not sign Eduardo for 8.5 million, say we signed David Villa for a fee similar to Fernando Torres 25million.

Say we signed him for 5 million a year for five years – so thats another 25 million spent, 50 million in all.

So all in all that would be 25 million out the first year, plus 5 million in wages, thats 30 million gone from the P&L – almost the entire profit for the year.

Plus you have still got 20 million wages sitting as a current liability on your balance sheet, alongside the debt interest and whatever else.

So your profits have evaporated straight away and your balance sheet is weaker – but you have David Villa.

Now you are more vulnerable to takeover. Nice.

Not only that but say like Eduardo, David Villa takes 4 months to acclimatise and thus doesn’t help you out a huge amount on the pitch.

After that 4 months like Eduardo, David Villa scores a few goals and it looks like the title is on.

But then some clogger from Birmingham breaks Davids leg and leaves the jagged bone sticking out of his sock.

You finish the season 4 points behind the winners, just like the season before.

    So what now?

    Are the ‘fans’ satisfied?

How many shirts do you think 50 million quid is? I’ll tell you – 1,428,571 @ £35 a pop. Unlikely to make our money back there then, especially as the incremental revenue from additional shirts less shirts otherwise sold is going to be negligable. And we certainly didnt’ make our money back on the pitch, did we?

This my friend is why they say ‘Arsene knows’. Because he does.

Arsenal Football club cannot sustain transfers that ‘will satisfy the fans’ at the moment with the issues surrounding the club – in the future yes, but not now.

If some fans want to mortgage the future for their own myopic view then I for one say we don’t need those fans because they will do more harm than good.

Arsene has proved time and again that he can pull the rabit out of the hat for relative peanuts – Sagna 6 million, Eduardo 8.5 Million. No risk to the club, but no ’satisfied fans’? Or are there; because I for one, and everyone I know is damned well happy with those two players, and with Ade, with Hleb, with Cesc, with Flam(!), with Kolo etc etc etc etc etc. A couple more like them and we are away, four points ain’t a lot.”

I think it really puts our situation into perspective. I hope Arsene can find not superstars but real quality players like Sagna who can come in and do what we need. I.e stop goals and score goals from midfield.

  79. chris says:

frichie, the thing is the natives are restless, big stars may not equate to better results but it is an attempt to show ambition of the club to attract and retain stars both now and in teh future

  80. Stupid says:

lads, don’t forget tonight @ 915pm on Arsena TV they are showing the wenger meeting with the AST in full.

some very interesting quotes from wenger have comeout of the meet already…. what amazed me the most was him stating he was in for woodgate but spuds had got to him first and were in advance negs. so it was too late.

fucking mickey mouse again from arsenal.

no fucking wonder a top name has gone at board level, total shambles.

  81. chris says:

meanlean, on the sagna point, over the last few wenger years we have had about 15 left & right backs manufactured by nessesity, each one did well even eboue, at one point we looked like a factory for these positions, because sagna did well quickly was luck IMHO, but have we to stop hoping and wishing because of this, fans will not agree and it is not just an arsenal thing it is accross the spectrum with things people love and take seruiosly,

  82. Finestcuts says:

Senderos , Eboue + Hoyte would be my selling options bringing in about 10 m into the fund meaning 35 mill to spend which is plenty, we can easily improve with that 35 mill.

We already have Nordveit for Senderos. Walcott and Rosicky al;ready options for right wing, Eboue is not needed. If needed Kolo Toure can fill in at right back meaning that would free up cash, and if we spent the entire 35 mill it would be Arsenal’s biggest spending spree for years, something which recent moves suggest is likely.

Friar not to turn down any of Arsene’s requests for transfers.
Not many players being sold and new players being brought in costing us more than the amount earnt.

  83. KJS says:

I just love comments that involve selling 8 players and bringing in 4 – they are great.

To some extent I think its a bit sad that Arsene Knows has become a derogatory term on this blog and in the interest of balance I think a term should also be created for those Champ Manager types who are trying sooo hard not to be labelled AKB’s that they become a comedy opposite.

Any ideas for a term to represent the yang to the AKB’s ying !!

  84. Finestcuts says:

Hleb can play on both wings which is why it would be so useful to keep him, 3 options on either wing.

  85. BB says:

meanlean.. you have a point.. undoubtedly..but fukking buy any players.. our squad has been left thinner and thinner year after year due to lack of investment even in players of Sagna’s price range.. hoping that some hopeless players such as Senderos etc will pull through ..
there has been very little incremental improvement in the squad and no trophies in the recent years is living proof of this

  86. chris says:

KJS, you mean try to avoid teh feeder club term while yet selling 8 young talents to bring in a handful?
to be fair the guys ask for peoples opinions and lists,

  87. MeanLean says:

    I agree 100% KJS.

And Chris I do not think it was luck at all. Sagna is a quality player that not many people have heard of but he was quality in his league. Eduardo pretty much the same although it took him slightly longer to adjust.

  88. Ethan_gooner says:

    finest ..

cesc wasnt free i seem to remember him costing 2- 4 mil !
for a 16 year old .. thats why wenger threw him into the 1st team ..

the list is great .. woodgate would of been a good solid performer .
wonder if we could still get him !?
maybe throw some cash about .. it makes sense to get a EPL defender
    no risky BS .
As for someone was going i think it was obviously senders …
i mean he hasnt played too much this season ..

also yes id swap ade for ETO in a heart beat !
if anyone thinks ade will come good they are brain damaged !
he might get BETTER .. but you cant make a striker better in one season , especially when so many fundamental skills need refining !
its like asking eboue to become a goal scoring machine .
or stop diving .. CANT WIN – DONT TRY !

sell him now and get someone great ..
ade isnt great and we know why he scored so many goals ..
we just had no one else to do it this season .. and he was the benefactor

  89. Big Raddy says:

Ras Henry. IF it is true that the reason Ben Arfa is not playing in the first team is because he and Benzema cannot stand to be on the pitch together, then it is highly unlikey they will get on at THOF.

Of the two I would take Benzema, but if we did AW would turn him into a left winger !

  90. chris says:

lucky that he established so quickly i think, quality is there otherwise he woudl never would have been purchased,

  91. Spike says:

    Hi Geoff,

Nice article, but I believe you’ll be dissapointed with our signings then.
    Because:
    - I don’t think Wenger will buy a new goalkeeper. YES, I agree this is a risk to go with Almunia but also, not winning the league this year has nothing to do with our goalkeeper(s).
    - Wenger wants a commanding center back. I DO TO. Not a ball player. just a real defender a huge one (who will find the training sessions really hard probalby). As much as I like him, Kompany is not. He is really technicaly gifted and is similar to Gallas and Touré.
    - Wenger won’t buy a forward – If you beleive in Walcott and Bentdner, I agree you shoud’nt but I also would like Villa
    - Yaya would be too expensive
AND YES – there is hope for Ben Arfa.

And a question for Pedro and all the others.
If we get that Commanding center back, do you think Wenger will play him alongside Gallas and move Touré as Def CM ?

  92. Pedro says:

I think comments like that are the reason we started a blog.

Arsenal fans don’t care about shirt sales, we care about having great players at our club and having a squad deep enough to challenge. We pay enough to expect that right?

We are the most expensive team to watch on the planet!

That statement is a huge what if statement. What if ManU had signed Tevez and he picked up a snapped leg? Rooney would step in… What if Joe Cole snapped his leg? SWP would step in… What if Cesc Breaks his leg? Erm… What if Gallas breaks his leg… erm? We put average back up in their place and lose out on the title by even more points than we have done…

Arsenal are the only team in the top 4 who sign players as assets… and it has caught up with us. Why not sign a player becuase you can see he is going to be great? What is an extra £4million when it comes to Ronaldo, Pato or Eto’o…? If the rest of the market are paying that price, maybe the price is the going rate?

Why are we the only team who can never compete? It’s rubbish and I think you’ll see that when we get a new MD in who is more football orientated.

KJS, if people want to talk about who they’d like to see at the club… why not?

Its very AKB to just say, ‘Arsene will surprise us, what is the point in talking about it’.
It stifles debate. You are saying, don’t talk about something you can’t influence? That is comical in itself.

Fans talk about players they like, and who they like to see in and who they like to see out… If you don’t like it, start a new topic.

  93. Evo in OZ says:

i wonder how many 400 comment days we are gonna have till the first signing, surely things will have to taper off?

  94. Finestcuts says:

Yeah there are to polar extreme, those who think Arsene knows fuck all, and others who have no substance to any arguments they put forward in support of Wenger. Keeping your head on in all matters is the main thing, there has to be a balance for constructive criticism. In many ways calling anything that threatens your own point of view as “Arsene Knows” is exactly the same as those in that camp. If someone is a real simpleton and deserves that accolade, but also the Wenger knows fuck all brigade should be seen as people who just feel hate for something and can’t see the bigger picture and ultimately just want to see Wenger fail for their own personal satisfaction. You have shit stirrers amongst supporters at every club, they’re the ones who thrive when the shit goes down, they’re the leaders of the “downtroddden masses”. Old moves, it’s been done in Political history again and again and that particular art of war has no real purpose apart from to link peoples name to shit, mistakes and give people something to jeer about. people have this common tendency, lets unite against a common enemy…..I see it in everyday lif…this is the old trick:

    1) Find someone who is in a powerful position somewhere
2)Undermine them at any possible opportunity, never give them a fair hearing and find others to laugh with you at this enemy, convince the group that this is the enemy and berate them.
    3) The group hasn’t achieved anything and continually lambast their target and they all tell each other it’s the right thing to do…..I mean after all, this is what unites them.

It can topple some people but when the target continues to overcome criticism, the group actually claim the credit for the change and just carry on, it’s a never ending cycle.

  95. KJS says:

Pedro, my tongue was firmly in cheek old chap – lists are great and nothing wrong with a bit of fantasy football but 8 out (not inc Flamini) and 4 in – isn’t that just a tad comical too ??? Especially, when one of the criticisms firmly laid at Wengers door on this blog is tha lack of squad depth – surely you can see the irony ??

  96. Big Raddy says:

Well said FC. I wish I could send your post to the idiot who sits behind me at THOF. AW, Ade, Nic, Big Phil Eboue, …. all idiots and shit players/manager. OK it may be true of Eboue !

But to hear some of the idiotic comments about Ade being a donkey and then hear the same person singing ‘give him the ball and he will score’ really pisses me off

Of course we pay for the right to criticise but let’s be constructive about it

  97. TH14's Sense of Arrogance says:

    MeanLean,

I have to say whoever’s comment that was you pulled from another site and posted on here is utterly ridiculous. By their argument why ever buy anyone? Oh no, what if our £30m player gets his legs broken and can’t play? What then? Utter drivel, you don’t not buy a Porsche because you’re worried you’ll crash it. Otherwise you simply should not buy a car at all.

I understand he is saying that a £30m player puts more strain on our budgets but let’s not forget that we are one of the richest clubs in the world. If we can’t pay £30m for a player if we want to then god help us. I hate when AKB try and justify his frugal nature by throwing up Eduardo or Sagna and telling us we don’t know what we’re talking about. Here is the truth – Arsene wanted Ribery. Arsene wanted Pato. Arsene wanted Torres. He refused to pay top dollar for them. We finished 3rd in the League.

Maybe if he had bought one or two of those boys we would have finished top.

  98. YaYa Toure, Ben Afra, Robinho, David Villa and Lucio off the list. That said though I’d replace Ben Afra with Ricardo Quaresma as I think he’s more developed, and its some developed players we are after, Our squad is almost there, just needs those top-class finishers with the staying power to go a whole season.

Just a quick thought though, maybe we should look at Buffon or Gomes more seriously. With Jens retiring (or whatever his plans are) we only really have 1 keeper, Manuel Almunia. I don’t believe Fabyanski or Mannore have what it take to be top flight keepers, yet. Fabyanski needs to be more decicive when someone enters the box i.e. do I go at him or do i hold my line, and Mannore just needs development, a loan spell would do him good imo. Idk, on that line though I think that we’re almost certain to pick-up a keeper over the English summer. Maybe Gomes being younger… =D

  99. James73 says:

No matter what the AKB’s think a lot of fans are worried by the club’s perceived lack of ambition. We have fallen short of all four trophies this year, yet we are being told that it’s ok, this same squad, with minor tweaking and a replacement here or there, will come back leaner and meaner next year and will win one of the big two trophies (whilst no doubt not bothering with the other two). You either believe AW about this or you don’t. And I don’t. Same squad will mean more of the same, ie falling short. And the consequence of this will be our better player’s leaving in search of silverware elsewhere.

And talking of money still no season ticket renewal through? It came through in April last year. They are obviously debating how much they can get away with putting it up by. My wallet is bracing itself for a nasty shock! No doubt the increase will go straight to AW’s warchest…….

The place needs a big signing to give the club and the fans a lift this summer and to show some ambition. And talking about possible signing’s is good fun as well, we all know that probably nothing will happen in reality!

Break the bank and go for Van Der Vaart. Why not?

  100. Chipo says:

how about the CMBs (champ man brigade) KJS.

To be honest that list is completely ridiculous. The only faintly realistic prospect on there is ben arfa. I think names will come in, and I think hoyte and maybe senderos will be sold.

There’s talk about sagna’s success being down to “luck” – utter shit. He was a French international before we signed him. Just because the CMB dont know him and he costs less than 15m he must be shit. Obviously.

And the only reason Modric just went for 16m is cos we signed Edu and their chairman started mouthing off about Modric. Hence his rep goes up and he costs more.

That’s why wengerndoesnt sign players in the limelight. Their value is completely over inflated.

I’m not an AKB, you all know that, but at the same time, I’m with KJS AND MEANLEAN on this one- there’s nothing wrong with thinking that we have a great manager. Because we do.

And I bet a lot of you slagging off wenger were singing his name last Saturday.

  101. TH14's Sense of Arrogance says:

Oh and also, how fucking good must this Carlos Vela kid be that he has two websites dedicated to him?

Jesus. I hope he is utterly shit hot and makes Robinho look like Stepanovs.

  102. Chipo says:

pedro- “why are we the only team who can never compete?”

I’m sure we were 5 points clear in march…
And I’m pretty sure Liverpool spent 25m on torres, 10m on babel, 8m on benayoun and are STILL 4th? 15 points off the pace…

  103. chris says:

chipo, i said that sagna’s adaption the league in no time at all was lucky (lucky for us) did you forsee such a quick adaption and establishment,

  104. Big Raddy says:

Chipo very few of us slag off AW as a coach. Most attack him for his managerial tactics. We needed to replace Dein in order to compete in the transfer market. To leave it to AW and Friar was unfortunate.

AW is the best coach in the game, but he is not a superman, and cannot do it all !

  105. Chipo says:

chris of course not that quick but I wasnt expecting a 6month transition- he’s strong and pacy, good in the air and not afraid of a tackle- the things most foreign players take time to acquire.

  106. jules says:

pedro , i agree with you , should ‘nt we expect a bit better than eboue on the right and diaby on the left for much of the season !! this is the arsenal for god sake . im not saying stupidly lets sidn ten players we need 2 or 3 quality signings which we all know about , what really pisses me off is every summer having drawn out speculation about our players and then seeing all the targets we seem to identify going to other clubs,

  107. Ethan_gooner says:

    KJS,

if you know who we are buying then shout up mate !?
tell us ! because quite frankly we are sick of arsenes cone of silence .
id rather see him throw some names out there !

we know who he usually picks…. WHo no one would ever think of purchasing ..
so what is the harm in letting the fans in on his transfer findings ! Im sure it wont effect the price ..

Id rather see him say .. well we missed out on ETO , or villa .. Id like to see the club be more open about there dealings , that would give the fans some faith he is on the job ..

All we have done is lost players .. TH14 OUT FREDDY OUT – FLAMINI – HLEB
JENS OUT in sagna … id include dudu but we obviously cant currently..

5 major outs in the past 12 odd months and only 1 current player in the 1st team IN !
in fact sagna’s even injured .. so that NO players in currently ..
Its a fuckin sinking ship ! shouting out names is FAITH !
its all we can do NOW ! its all we have left in the tank !!!
so show some faith KJS ! faith that the fans want the best for the club even if the club doesnt !!!!

also like pedro says hopefully in some small way if our message about Kompany or villa or anyone else gets back to the boss its all worth while ! And if our fans get behind some smart choices hopefully arsene WILL LISTEN as we know his game plan too !! he needs too listen !
as his choices have been poor this season ..
SO CLOSE ….YET EVEN FURTHER ! with flamini gone !!! and we havent started yet!

  108. TH14's Sense of Arrogance says:

Can I try and clarify this Arsene/AKB thing that is happening here…

I love Arsene Wenger. I think he is an incredible manager and I think he would make clubs like Bolton/Wigan/Birmingham successful because he can find players for next to nothing and make them genuine world class players. He also consistently turns a profit of transfer dealings and so can run a business. He is a fantastic manager and we are lucky to have him…no question.

BUT……he has faults. He is stubborn, he persists with players/tactics/philosophies that should have changed months ago. He is getting a little grumpy in his old age and has adopted a frankly negative approach of us vs them, siege mentality.

When i have a pop at the AKB i am not having a pop at Arsene himself. I am talking about some fans absolute inability to believe that what happens at our club is anything other than a Wenger masterplan that we are all too stupid of blind to see. Arsene knows….yeah he knows he fucked up this season and he better fucking well get a grip and tighten his game up or we’ll not win anything again.

  109. Chipo says:

Raddy I agree 100%, we need a top man/woman(Brady) behind the scenes.

  110. jules says:

    well said th 14 s o a . !!

  111. James73 says:

It really is quite ridiculous that as soon as you have an opinion about AW you are “slagging him off”. Isn’t that one of the signs of AKB?

Nobody I know wants him out, he is still the best man for the job. But he is not above reasoned criticism and observation, nobody is.

    TH14 is spot on.

  112. jules says:

only thing with vela is you can not expect this lad how ever good to come in a chnge everything like some people think , he is young and will need to adjust and should,nt be put under such pressure anyway ,

  113. Chipo says:

Again TH14, I agree, apart from the siege mentality point. Its a proven way of creating team spirit and a desire to win at all costs. Utd have it, and the England rugby team definitely had it (shame the ENG footie team doesnt!)

If anything, I think we were missing some of that mentality in our ‘soft season’ two years ago

  114. chris says:

one a lighter note, did you read that liam brady got a free ford mondeo courtesy of his new IRL role, not exactly glamorous!

  115. Pedro says:

    Chipo… I meant financially.

We were in for all the players I mentioned, but we bulked at the fee.

Finestcuts… fair point. This blog has never stated that we think we have a poor manager, he should be sacked… blah blah blah.

AKB is the term reserved for blind faith in Wenger and there are plenty of them about.

We have a great manager who has done wonders for the club… but he is not beyond criticism. We are Arsenal first, Wenger second, not the other way round.

KJS, if that is the case I apologise. This site has never suggested we need to kick out 8 players, we just want a few top class players this summer. I thought you were calling the site Champ man…

Sometimes people get the wrong idea about this site because they associate all the comments with the authors. Someone wrote in the comments section of another site Le Grove hates Ade, maybe some of the Grovers do, but Geoff and I are big supporters of him…

This site does not slag of Wenger as a coach, we just question some of his decisions and his transfer policy. There is nothing wrong with that as long as you can put a good argument forward?

  116. Evo in OZ says:

hey cut out the Stepanovs slagging….

  117. Chipo says:

my point about how much Liverpool spent this summer seems to have been conveniently overlooked… ;)

  118. Big Raddy says:

So…. not only do we need 2/3 new players to add to the squad. A CM, LW & GK (++ others)

We also need a a major shakeup in the backroom staff. A new and dynamic MD, a transfer expert (Grimandi ?), a defensive coach (TA ?), and something we have n’t discussed a new Medical team.,

FFS, how is it that ourt players are so prone to injury? Why do we need to send them to the South of France/Brazil/Germany /USA for treatment. I thought we were meant to have the most up-to-date medical service in the EPL, and yet our players are rarely out for a game or two. No, they are out for 10 games +. How do we end the season with Flamini, Sagna, Clichy, Dudu (OK, I get that one) Big Phil, RvP, Mozart, Djourou, Diaby all out with injury.

It is a disgrace and needs looking at.

  119. Pedro says:

Chipo, you can pull out great examples of money being spent badly… but Wenger is not about to go out and blow £40mill on poor players is he?

If you load a good manager with £50mill… he will buy well.

£26mill on Torres worked out though, didn’t it?

What about Manu spending £50mill last summer despite winning the league last year?

  120. Donjohnni says:

    Jules – agreed.

I think this is make or break season for Wenger. It seems he’s lost it a bit, unfortunately. He’s made some big mistakes. At first I thought this “myopia” term was harsh that everyone keeps throwing at him, but I believe it’s true. For him to make some of the mistakes he’s made this year can only be the result of shortsightedness. Eboue on the wing? Jesus Christ – that guy has been useless. Senderos in defence? The worst of all for me – Toure as a right back, who is way out of his depth and has cost us big this year in the biggest games. Add to that playing Hleb and Diaby on the wings, and I’m starting to think that Wenger is past his best.

My patience is wearing thin. I’m getting bored. It doesn’t matter what people think about the way I feel. What do I care? Truth is, I feel this way and I bet you thousands of other Arsenal supporters are feeling the same thing to. For the first time in years I couldn’t be arsed to cheer at The Emirates this season after our capitulation – because the feeling of the last two years came flooding back: that the post Vieira, Pires, Campbell, Ljunberg, Henry, Bergkamp years don’t match up to what has gone before.

Please Wenger – stop being such a sentimentalist and saint in this dirty game corrupted by money. If you’re nice and fair you’ll get steam rollered by Chelsea, Man U and Real Madrid. Don’t pick youngsters just to prove you are right. Don’t try to teach all the press and the rest a lesson for not believing in your youth and writing you off. Get the ego out of it – think of the club and the fans. We agree – the youth is good, but it needs to be augmented by experience. Man U: experienced players. Chelsea: Experienced. Liverpool: experienced. Real: experienced. Barc: Experience. AC MIlan: Too much experience! BUY SOME OLDER PLAYERS. You don’t have to play them all the time. Scholes and Giggs are peripheral. Yes, if they were in the team every week like Pires was, they’d suffer. But they aren’.t. They play second fiddle to the youth, and are called upon when needed.

    Rant over!

  121. Chipo says:

raddy with you on med team

How come with us 2 weeks always turns into 2months, but with Chelsea 2 weeks turns into 4days straight back in for the next game!

Probably the only thing I envy at Chelsea…

  122. Big Raddy says:

You are right Chipo. If I was Scouse, I would be pissed off with their continuing failure. OK , they have signed the dogs with Torres, but they still have Kewell and Pennant !!

  123. TH14's Sense of Arrogance says:

I think in the cold light of day Adebayor could be a decent player for us, but back when our season was crumbling around us he frustrated the hell out of me.

His one on one misses cost us in some big big games and his offsides and general attitude pissed me off because I wanted Arsenal to win so badly, but given the circumstances – RVP out, Eduardo out, Henry left and so on, Adebayor stepped up and delivered the goals we needed where so many other players would’ve cracked under the pressure.

He is not a clinical finisher, never was at Monaco and looks like improving here. So I hold my hands up and say that I have called for him to be axed on several occasions here and that was perhaps premature and short sighted of me. I hope he becomes the player we need.

That being said, I would still trade him for Eto’o. Eto’o is the best in the world as an out and out goal scorer.

  124. Hughsie says:

Finestcuts i know im a bit late with my response, but how do you know Flamini was on $25,000 k/pw?

He was an unknown 19-20 year old when he first signed, i cant see notoriously tight fisted Arsene Wenger giving that kind of unknown quantity a wage that large. As far as i can see, theres barely any solid information on what Arsenal pays their players, plus the 5k/pw figure was reported on the Guardian podcast this morning. Seems true enough to me, but please debunk it for me if im wrong.

  125. Big Raddy says:

Eto’o needs anew challenge. He looks frustrated at Barca, rarely fit and running on 3 cylinders.

A straight swap for Ade…. that would be sweet

  126. Pedro says:

Hughsie, the basic Arsenal professional contract is £15k a week. That is what you bog standard 18 year old gets. Flamini came on a free… so £25k sounds about right.

  127. Chipo says:

Pedro my point wasnt that liv made bad signings. In my opinion those three players are class. And they have all been a success at Liverpool. And yet they are still 4th.

I would love us to bring in a big name – 20 million on someone, and yes it would make me feel like the club had big ambitions, but I’d rather we were a bit more patient, and built the foundations for long term domination.

Man U can only do what they did because financially they’ve had a massive head start on us. In 5 years we’ll be able to spend 50m in a summer, but we’re not quite there yet.

And let’s face it, whoever comes in this summer will be class, and that’s a nice feeling.

I’m just glad I’m not a Newcastle fan- jose enrique anyone??

  128. Hughsie says:

Sounds good enough to me, im just repeating what was broadcast to everyone that listens to the Guardian podcast. That yeah, the figure was about £25,000 but stretched over a month rather than a week.

  129. TH14's Sense of Arrogance says:

Flamini had to go to Milan. I wish him all the best and have absolutely no resentment to him.

AW made it clear he was surplus to requirements and could leave, never tried to stand in his way, it was Flamini who decided to see his contract out. He had an absolutely blinding season, performed above and beyond what we ever expected of him.

Now one of the genuine giants of Europe come in and offer him a 4 year bumper deal worth crazy money. Their boss comes out and describes him as the best midfielder in the world. When did Arsene ever say that about him in the past?

He had to leave because he earned that move with his performance this season. Why should he believe in Arsenal when they never believed in him?

    Good Luck Matt.

  130. Pedro says:

Cheers Ollie and T-Buzz… new funnies!

  131. Geoff says:

KJS the Yang to a AKB is someone with their own opinion and who is not a sheep.

Not quite sure why anyone who has an opinion is termed as a Champ manager, what is a Champ manager?

As we all pay so much to watch our team play and not our manager manage, we are entitled to have an opinion, if you feel he is above criticism then maybe China would be a good place to watch football matches, as they aren’t allowed to criticise their leaders either.

  132. Ethan_gooner says:

If ade turned into a class arsenal striker , the likes that we are familiar with in the past id say fair play to the lad .. he is no anelka or TH14 – DB 10 or alike .. In fact he is a player
the likes of which that has never played at arsenal .. even kanu had more foot skill and passing ability .. He has too many faults for him to get it all right next season !
but if he does fair play to him .. He would need to turn in a flamini turn about or beyond to get my vote ..

Sorry the lad isnt arsenal class , and doesnt gel well with our passing game ..
too poorer 1st touch on the break , and off sides 64 this season ?? fuck me dont start me off ?! unforgivable loss of possession ! when we as a team pride ourselves in build up plays !
he can score goals .. but someone else given the chance will score more ! with al the missed opportunities gone begging this season !

I make no bones about wanting rid of the cunt , especially whilst he has 90% of you fooled .. he can only be worth more .. and if you had shares on the ade stock exchange
Id be shouting SELL SELL SELL !!

  133. Chipo says:

flam was on 5k a week??? Not a chance! You can’t sign someone from a club
like marseille and offer them that- that’s below minimum wage in the footie world!!

  134. Pedro says:

Being patient is fine… but 3 years on and we are still potless and the fruits of our patients fuck of to Milan and Inter?

Its like we are being punished by the footballing gods?

  135. patthegooner says:

I would not swap Etoo for Ade, he gives something that we have lacked for years. If we actually had some wingers I think he would actually have scored a lot more.

However I would buy Etoo and play them together.

Ade is our most improved player this year, this time last Season I honestly wanted him out of the Club, but he has changed my opinion of him in.

The rubbish that comes out about anyone being able to score 30 goals in the Arsenal team is just that. Sure his 1st touch needs work and he has missed some sitters, but so have Ronaldo and Torres and no doubt Etoo does it as well, but he is getting better day by day, I know it is opinions but some of you are as stubborn as our manager when it comes to Ade.

  136. Gidster says:

    AKB… or not AKB…

Arsene Wenger is without any possible argument the best coach in the whole wide world. He spots talent better than anyone, has a vision of the game and how it should be played which is almost utopian, and he makes players better through coaching (not running). At its best it is the most beautiful sight in football…. ever. Including Holland 74 and Ajax of the early 70s, Brazil 70, Utd 99, Pool of the 80s, Barcelona of recent times… We are priveleged to watch it. Buy Sky and watch the others, they cant fucking play the game!

Arsene Wenger is without any possible argument a very average football manager. His team selections often stifle his vision, he puts massive trust in players the fans can see will never achieve the level required, and his tactics and substitutions are sometimes amateurish. He believes that players will be as honest and professional as he is over matters such as contracts, wages and behaviour. He wont break wage structure or squad harmony in order to sign big-name players (very often), and he also seems to have a bit of problem handling senior players.

Thats it. Thats the bloke who manages our team. Its been the best ever, and also totally frustrating and a bit unfulfilled, but thats good, no? I love who we are, I love it that we are a hated club in this country but universally admired everywhere else. I love the envy from the pundits and reporters who detest the idea that Arsenal are the best ticket in town. I even enjoy their smugness when we fuck it all up (or, when Arsene fucks it all up by being Arsene).

Just because Arsene doesnt always get it right, doesnt mean he isnt awesome. Who would you like instead of him? Really? I dont want to be another Chelsea and United and Barcelona and Real Madrid and buy a load of superstars on massive wages with a huge bank loan that we cant repay. I dont want Rafaesque management, i.e. buy loads of players, complain about not having enough players, play crap football. In the credit crunch Wenger is the ideal man… if only he had a number 2…

Manchester City are favourites to seal a deal for Barcelona starlet Giovani dos Santos, the player’s father has confirmed.

The young Mexican seems set to leave Camp Nou this summer and a host of clubs are now jostling to seal his signature.

But City look to be in pole position ahead of the likes of Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool.

The player’s father – former Brazilian international Zizinho – has confirmed to the Mexican press that City have made their move.

“The news is certain, but the subject is in the hands of the agent,” Zizinho revealed.

“We would prefer much discretion until the end of the season.

“We will not decide, but Barca know the situation as we have had contact with sporting director Txiki Beguiristain.

“Our objective now is for him to finish the season with Barcelona at a good level and then we will speak.”

    English interest

Zizinho then confirmed that City were amongst a host of English clubs in the hunt.

“Other English clubs have demanded information about Giovani but the main chance is City,” he added.

Barcelona have a wealth of forward options which is why Giovani will seemingly be allowed to leave – with former youth colleague Bojan now very much the talk of Catalunya.

It is believed Barca are willing to let Giovani go for 10 million euros (£7.8million), although they are also open to the idea of a season-long loan but any club would have to take over the whole of his salary.

Giovani’s current deal has three-years left to run.

I know he is another youngster… but he is quite special right?

  138. Chipo says:

    geoff don’t get stroppy now!

The people CM refers to are the completely unrealisic muppets (eg that guy above who has written all in capitals and wants to sell every player and replace him with top 10 world players.

Nothing to do with criticising the manager, that’s fine, but its silly to say we should sign

BUFFON CANNAVARO QUARESMA ROBINHO VILLA ETOO all in one summer!

  139. Geoff says:

Chipo, read the post again, it was the bloggers choice from yesterday, and it didn’t include Eto’o.

  140. Big Raddy says:

Easy Ethan…. we know how much you enjoy the sight of Ade being flagged offside !

  141. chris GOONA says:

i will be very happy if we bought 2 players and kept every1 else.. preferreably a creative midfielder and a versatile experienced defender. Dont forget our players will be alot better off next season… players like Walcott, Denilson, Song have improved and will show that. But i agree with all the supporters saying we need 2 buy a big name, our team needs a lift and buying a quality well known player with some experience will put some confidence into our fine crop of young players. Plus it will settle those who are contemplating their futures i.e Hleb!!

  142. Big Raddy says:

    we don’t need de Santos.

  143. Hughsie says:

Dos Santos has apparently been a big disappointment at Barcelona, i think they were expecting him to come on this season and be the next Messi and he pretty much fizzled out after starting promisingly in the pre season cups.

10 million is a bit much for someone who’s played barely a handfull of games and has been unable to break into a Barcelona side that’s been screaming out for some creativity or goal scoring out forward. I wouldnt be comfortable putting that much money on a player who’s yet to really impress, especially now because we’re looking to top up the squad for a premiership tilt, which requires experience and proven ability, not potential.

It’d be different if we’d won the title and were in the same situation as Man United were last year where they felt they could drop a bit of cash on Nani and Anderson but we’re not. Dos Santos isnt the answer, that 10 million would be better spent on Van Der Vaart or someone.

  144. Geoff says:

Gidster the trouble with AKB’s is they all think we want another manager.

Find me a post that has been written by Pedro or I that says that and I will donate £1,000 to your favourite charity, if you can’t perhaps you could do likewise?

  145. patthegooner says:

    Geoff

I think Chipo is posting in response to the post made at 10:20 not the actual post you guys put up first thing

  146. Chipo says:

geoff read MY post again!! I wasnt talking about your headline.

  147. Chipo says:

    thanks pat!

  148. Geoff says:

    Sorry Chipo! thanks Pathe!

  149. Ethan_gooner says:

AKB to me is someone who quotes arsene’s press conferences word for word .
when you corner a AKB brigadier he will have no opinion , on transfers , on anything
he just quotes arsene knows best and leaves it as that .. He will side with players like cesc (wengers love child) and will tell everyone theo is an impact sub !( bollocks to that !)
or has faith flamini will re-sign because arsene said he wants to stay at the club ! ( haha to that one eh? PAT ?! :) ) Or that 1 game V’s man U changed our season ( & not the 8 – 10 draws after christmas when ade couldnt find the back of the net)
Or you must respect the salary cap on players to keep running costs at the club low ,
Or you agree with the over 30′s policies on all players .. Or that you need to sell every player before you loose money on them because we cant loose a cent on ANY player ..
(pires?) Or think that this was a vast improvement on last season when we still won nothing and didnt even get to a final in any competition !

Normal grovers respect what he has done for the club over his 11 year stay, i do ..
but with winning nothing for several seasons a growing amount of fans are starting to see cracks appear .. (since DD left ?) and if we didnt question his tactics now,
we might as well say who cares about a silly game ! We are passionate fans who care about the clubs direction .. and hope we can get out of this potential stage we are in and become world beating .. Arsene Knows best brigade are people who stunt the club.
You might as well go to russia and become a communist , free thinking is something that is frowned upon there .. start using your creative minds .. AKB ‘B’ers
Express some free minded thoughts ! then we will listen …

    then you are free :)

( did anyone buy that , coming from me ?? )

    :)

  150. Chipo says:

geoff what flew up your arse this morning…

Gidster just criticized wenger himself!! And what is therefore the difference between him criticizing wenger but saying he loves the club (the same Gidster who you just called an AKB) and your good self, who loves the club and doesnt want wenger to leave but is allowed to criticize him???

We’re all on this forum cos we love arsenal, why do we have to lynch groups of people who have different opinions.

The slogan of this website is “where you can have an opinion not get one”, but it seems you are against people who think differently to you!

  151. Ethan_gooner says:

    big raddy

    its a compulsive disorder i admit !

    :)

  152. Chipo says:

and for the record ethan I agree with about 2 of those criteria for an AKB, does that make me one?

  153. TH14's Sense of Arrogance says:

I completely agree about the problem with all these unrealistic fans. They need to get a grip and understand what Arsene’s transfer policy is!

Anyway here is my 1st team for next season:

    Cech

    Sagna – Vidic – Ferdinand – Clichy

    Ronaldo – Cesc – Essien – Ronaldinho

    Torres – Drogba

    That’s about right

  154. Big Raddy says:

TH14… you are def. the man to take over from AW. What a team that would be, AW get the cheque book out (or for this lot, the credit card)

  155. Big Raddy says:

And only one Englishman….. very Arsenal !!

  156. Chipo says:

take out drogba put in pele.
    and cruyff in for essien!

  157. Geoff says:

Chipo I know that, that’s why I say what I say, I’ve never said we need a new manager, just new players.

Of course I’ll argue with people who don’t agree that’s the whole point of reasoned debate.

    Gidster said this,

Just because Arsene doesnt always get it right, doesnt mean he isnt awesome. Who would you like instead of him? Really? I dont want to be another Chelsea and United and Barcelona and Real Madrid and buy a load of superstars on massive wages with a huge bank loan that we cant repay.

I said I wouldn’t want anyone else and have never asked for anyone else, what’s the problem with that?

  158. Ethan_gooner says:

    pat

who else could score goals this season ?
bends got 9 and fair play to him with the limited time he had !
far more value for money with his time on the pitch ! and our future plan B pat !
he probably played only 25 % of the time ade had on the pitch!
    and i know what 4 x 9 adds up too ! do you ?

Who else could score with ade as a partner !? he doesnt pass off to a living soul !
he either goes it alone .. and screw’s the pooch 99% of the time or the 1 % is his 30 goals scored this season ! do you watch a different team than me ??

  159. Gidster says:

Thanks Chipo. My point about Wenger is that he is flawed, very very flawed… but I love him and his football and I want to be entertained… i even enjoy being let down, getting beat, getting proper gubbed… its part of the whole thing. If you dont share those views I can understand why you doubt Wenger’s methods. I have doubts too, but I prefer to live with those doubts and count my blessings that we’ve got Arsene.

We’ve had a team of relative superstars. We won the league, didnt lose a game, won a double or two as well… so now lets do it another way. And if it doesnt work, Wenger is to blame coz its his idea. Thats a fair deal, no?

Mourinho to me was the anti-Wenger, the God of anti-football. Everything that is wrong with the game is practiced to the nth degree in pursuit of success. Diving, cheating, running yer lungs out, focusing on the opposition instead of your own game… whatever it takes to win. The Big I Am. Who wants that? Give me Wenger, warts an’ all…

  160. Geoff says:

Then we’ll agree on that one Gidster. My charity by the way is the Tavern!

  161. Chipo says:

I think next season arsene should reshuffle the tactics and flood the midfield.
that way we don’t need to buy any defenders!

If we play 2-6-2 we’re sorted!

    Almunia

    Sagna toure

Vela denilson diaby Hleb Cesc Walcott clichy

    Ade Rvp

    SORTED!!

  162. TH14's Sense of Arrogance says:

Raddy, all I need is about £250m for starters and then obviously would be a strong squad so Kaka, Gerrard and co would be recruited too. Lol.

Arsene, get out, you’re a dinosaur, leave this football shit up to me. You’re behind the times old man. Ha ha.

Chipo is right though, these people who come on and moan about the lack of depth to the squad and the need for bolstering the team then come on in the same post and go:

    Ade out
    RVP out
    Rosicky out
    Bendtner out
    Senderos out
    Hoyte out
    Eboue out
    Denilson out

    In:
    Ben Arfa
    Henry
    Villa

It’s completely ludicrous. We need 3-4 squad/young players of genuine talent and maybe 2 proper ready made class players to replace Flamini and Hleb.

In my opinion. And you are allowed one on here, whoever said you’re not, but to be honest, you better be ready to justify your opinion, because that is what this place is about, friendly banter but also if someone says something you think is silly, you go out and tell them why and ask them to justify.

    I love it.

  163. Pedro says:

Chipo, we don’t lynch groups. Read what an AKB is here if you have forgotten!

It is not someone who says something positive about Arsene, it is someone who has blind faith and wants to close an debate with ‘Arsene knows’.

Do you not agree that is a poor way to debate?

  164. Big Raddy says:

Took the words out of my mouth Gidster.

    Particularly re: the Special One

  165. Pedro says:

Well said TH14… your last paragraph is bang on the money.

  166. Gidster says:

Roger that Geoff… one George Graham Style Brown Paper Bag coming up….

  167. Chipo says:

very poor indeed pedro but I’ve never met anyone like that! Maybe that is what all the confusion stems from!

  168. Darri says:

The players that I definately want is Veloso and Gomes. I think the EU championship will do Djourou and Senderos good. I haven’t lost confidance in Senderos quite yet. Look how well he did against Milan. There still is hope. He has an Arsenal heart.

Gomes is one of the few tall world class goalkeepers available.

Veloso can play either center half or center midfield. He is the perfect replacement for Flamini. I also have confidance in Diaby and Denilson. They are great players but filling the CM slot full time might prove a tough task. If we don’t get Veloso, Gareth Barry has been doing a gread job for Villa + he’s englis!

The only striker I would like to add to the squad right now is Benzema, but thats never going to happen this year.

The players I want out are:

Rosicky (we can get a better player that is not as injury prone and scores more goals eg. Diego)

    Hoyte (no explenation needed)

    Thats it!

And I don’t want Eboue to play right wing! He can replace Sagna when injured (NOT KOLO, he’s a terrible right back).

So the way to the title is:

    Gomes / Almunia

    Sagna / Eboue King Kolo/Djourou Gallas /Senderos Clichy/Traore

    Hleb /Walcott Veloso/Barry/Diaby Fabregas/Denilson Ribery/Diego/Vela

    RVP /Walcott / Vela Ade / Bendtner

  169. Geoff says:

    Ha, ha nice one Gidster!

  170. Big Raddy says:

The debate is why the site continues to become more popular. I hope it doesn’t get too successful, I have enough trouble typing fast enough to keep up with the threads!

  171. Finestcuts says:

We should also focus on our up and coming players, this time next year these are players which are expected to be big for the club:

Denilson – pacy and agile centre-forward, a good player who has the potential to become an important member of the team.

Diaby – Plenty of technical skill, has been played out of position but someone who showed good early progress before being mowed down at Sunderland, someone whose talents could really come to fruition next year.

Theo Walcott – He has improved and his lightning pace has given us glimpses of what a good player he might once become.

Song – ACN star and shows he can handle being a centre back.

Bendtner – Has surpassed Crouch’s scoring record given a similar amount of time in the PL, if he plays a greater role, Ade’s old target of 15 is something which needs to be given to him.

This time next year we’ll be seeing one or two of them putting in a big performance to win us a trophy..

Our main concern points wise has been the smaller teams, thats where we missed out.
Middlesbrough have survived the PL thanks to their points from beating us, Wigan was avoidable as well. If we look at the easiest games we screwed up in, those are the culprits, thats where we can make major changes. Better results against Middlesbrough and Wigan and we would have been champions this weekend, seven key points given away to relegation candidates.

Wenger has already stated we’re going to get some wight at the back and a creative player…..I really hope that creative player is in “Eboue’s” position.

Gallas looks finished, if the boss specifically targeted our backline as the key problem, Gallas looks unlikely to make CB at Arsenal his stable berth. He should go to Bayern Munich or Porto, he’d be great there. And no we don’t need him as backup, it would be useful but this year is the best time to upgrade on him….his sale plus a relatively small (in football terms) amount of cash could bring in a really super CB.

  172. jules says:

thanks donjohnni , i am not anti arsene or being negative , im just gutted not to be in there this weekend trying to win it and not being the c l final , every year now for the last few seasons we seem to be just two players short not six but two and it seems we are not learning , we can bleat on about refs decisions all we like yes we were unlucky but you have to look at what we had from the mid field ie bobby and fred 30 goals from them and what we have now !! uhmm . we should have bought in jan , we knew rvp and rosi were out then and we lost out to the spuds on woodgate ! also don,t forget at birmingham were it all went wrong we were 2 . 1up with a couple of mins and cruising , we bought on two subs meaning the ref gave more time , on came denil who had’nt played for three months and gilberto , took off hleb who can hold the ball . gilberto gave the ball away and you know the rest , is that the refs fault as well !? as i said , i just don,t want another summer of watching targets we are linked with go to other clubs , i so thought ribery was ours last year . come on arsene , do it for the boys , this THE ARSENAL , again THE ARSENAL . don,t get left behind , two or three QUALITY PLAYERS PLEASE .

  173. Chipo says:

I’m off for lunch- “great talk I’ll see you out there”, “there’s a good energy in the gym!” – name the films and win a prize!

    And remember,
    ARSENE KNOWS!!

    Haha only kidding lads :)

  174. Geoff says:

Yeah but I can’t see Gallas playing second fiddle, his ego is too big, if he loses the captaincy to Cesc and I’ll have money he does, he’ll fuck off.

  175. Evo in OZ says:

    nice one glidster!

  176. Geoff says:

    Have a nice lunch Chipo!

  177. TH14's Sense of Arrogance says:

Chipo…I am going to say ‘Old School” for the the first one. And….’Dodgeball’ for the 2nd?

Couple of stabs in the dark.

  178. jules says:

denilson , pacey and agile centre forward !!

  179. Geoff says:

I wondered about that one too Jules, I think he meant Center midfield.

  180. jules says:

finestcuts , are you sure , think you mean cetral midfield my man .

  181. TH14's Sense of Arrogance says:

Will Nordveit/Lansbury/Wilshere/Barazite/Simpson etc be promoted to the 1st team do you think?

I think they deserve a shot in the CC at least along with Merida. I think Hoyte/Senderos need to be bombed out.

  182. Chipo says:

back for a mo- TH14 correct!

You will be notified of your priZe within 28working days

  183. Darri says:

I want Nordveit/Lansbury/Wilshere/Barazite/Simpson to excel at the carling cup next season. They arn’t top flight players just yet!!

  184. GMR says:

    Gidster,

I can only assume you have recently become an Arsenal supporter then (when I say recent I mean during the Wenger years)??

I didn’t hear too many fans complaining when GG was the boss & we were winning trophies with pretty dire football most of the time. Infact under Wenger I don’t think we’d ever have been capable of winning the title at Anfield like we did in ’89!!

If Wenger started playing negative football all next season & we won the league or CL the AKB’s would all have an excuse at the ready of why it was now ok to play boring football. They soon defend Wenger for playing that way in the cup final against Man Utd when we didn’t have 1 shot on goal in 90 minutes!!

  185. patthegooner says:

You are a dying breed Ethan when it comes to Ade.

And if you are honest with yourself, if Ade continues to improve the way he has done then I think we will finally get a positive post from you by the end of next season.

Like I said, a year ago I had little faith in Ade but he has convinced me. No striker is perfect, but honestly the only other striker in the Premiership I would have in front of Ade is Torres.

I think we agree on his weaknesses but I do believe that he is addressing them, his finishing has improved, his 1st touch is improving and his frustrating knack of being offside seems to be declining.

But I think what people overlook with Ade is firstly his energy, he always tracks back and always chases down what you initially think is a lost cause ball. but most of all people miss his ability to actually be in the right place at the right time to convert those chances in the first place

  186. Geoff says:

    Hey funky stuff Pedro!

  187. Geoff says:

I think I’m in a minority when I say I used to love watching GG teams, I thought the Cup Winners Cup against Parma, the Cup double in 93 and the Liverpool game in 89 were priceless.

  188. Finestcuts says:

Jules, just talking about Gallas, imo he’ll be victim number one of next seasons improvement agenda.

Creative player, CM or right wing would be great, we’re not going to get a major makeover.

Gilberto might even go back to playing there but because of the Olympics he’ll be out for the beginning of the season again. The Olympics are certainly a great pre-season for him and he’s always a useful player.

But because of our unbeaten home record, the amount of progress we’ve made this year despite being a little short on both quality and experience, this years experience has made them better players. We need to improve by about 10%, so if we’re looking at where we can do it it the most obvious answer is get someone better than Eboue and bring in someone better than Gallas.

  189. Odub says:

Hi all, couldnt be bothered to read all the posts, but I see it’s been fairly lively as usual…

Eh have I drank too much or are there 70′s style whirly thingys popping up all over the blog?!!

  190. James73 says:

There were very happy days under George and I hate it when he is slagged off. We were going nowhere until he turned up and convinced us that we could challenge the scousers, who were very dominant then.

Littlewoods Cup in 1987, absolutely top day out. And Geoff mentioned the rest.

Aw’s early success, certainly up until 2002, owed a lot to GG’s back five as well.

    http://www.arsenal.com/article.asp?thisNav=news&article=491243&cpid=703&title=Wenger+-+The+area+in+which+we+must+improve

While we’ve all been discussing where we need to improve here’s Wenger’s answer.

What did Flamini do about dealing with long balls? Not enough, we need someone better than him, he’s a defensive midfielder.

And Gallas, our captain, the man to lead the team through thick and thin. he just doesn’t lift the team up enough and those defensive mistakes were from his department as well.

Gallas, goodbye, go and have a strop. Lets try and do a deal with Bayern Muncih, trade in Gallas for Lucio…unless Wenger already knows who he wants there.

Sunderland is still a major game. Hopefully Gallas will be dropped for someone else, we need to see if what we’ve already got will serve us in our time of need, and Sunderland away won’t be easy. Their players are playing for their right to stay there and will be determined. I’d like to see Nordveit played alongside Song, very experimental but it could work out well. Wenger will probably stick Kolo at right back again but I’d even prefer to see Justin Hoyte there. My team for Sunderland:

    Fabianski

    J.Hoyte, Nordveit, Song, Clichy
    Walcott, Denilson, Gilberto, Traore
    Adebayor, Bendtner

    Subs: Toure, Wilshere, Gibbs, Senderos

Eboue will probably be in there though

Do the same as against Everton, get a goal and try and lock it up near the end by playing 5-4-1 like we did against Everton.

Against Sunderland I expect we’ll score before half time, and we can keep them at bay. 1 or 2 – 0 to us.

    http://www.arsenal.com/article.asp?thisNav=News&article=491244&lid=NewsHeadline&Title=Wenger+-+Don%27t+make+Gallas+a+scapegoat

And already a defence of Gallas. Fair enough he is commited etc. but ‘s not the one to take us to the next level.

“My priority is to keep this team together and then we will see where we go for next season.”

I understand that, do whatever it takes to do that Wenger, if we need to deal with it internally fair enough if that’s what keeps the team together, but even saying that the issue will not be brushed aside and you know you expect 6 or 7 goals fewer in that department. If that means giving Gallas the extra training fine, do it your way but as long as we sort this “long ball” problem out, we can’t be suffering because of 1970s tactics.

  193. Geoff says:

I liked Limpar a lot, out of this world in 1991. And because we won the league that year he is remembered for it! Rememver Coventry away, Nov 1990. Great stuff.

This wave of nostalgia has done wonders for my mood, feeling much better about The Arse now!!

  201. Paulinho says:

Denilson pacy? I’ve seen Primordial dwarves run faster than him. Sorry, this guy plays like he needs to take shit. Off the pace and overrun.

If you notice, apart from Bendtner, none of these youngsters have stepped up this year and taken the heat away from the experience players. Wenger has got that massively wrong over last summer.

When squad depth is debated, I think its lack of quality not lack of numbers. That’s why you see people saying eight out, four top class players in.

We’re sick of seeing unmotivated mediocrity like Denilson and Diaby and would prefer a class act to come in take their place.

One great player is better than two average ones.

  202. Trinidad_Gunner says:

I think Wenger develops different aspects of the player’s game by playing them out of position … some sort of experiment for him.
He plays Walcott on the wing, knowing that he will eventually be a striker
Flamini played at LB, got better at defending, inproved as a DM
Song is a DM, but he plays him as a CB

I won’t be suprised if Song gets a little more solid defensively as a CB, then he is moved back to a defensive midfielder

  203. Paulinho says:

Gallas has been great. The only intelligent ballsy defender we have. He is the least of our problems.

  204. Pedro says:

Geoff just read it… like most AKB’s he can’t spell… ‘critisism’, oh dear.

Still, nice to see he is still reading.

  205. KJS says:

Geoff, before you pack me off to China can I maybe suggest you go back and read my comments again ?

As TH14 pointed out all I was doing was aiming a bit of a jibe at a comment (not the main article), where a guy had 8 or 9 players leaving and only 4 coming in. Then stated that the irony was, that one of the crticisms of Wenger was that the squad is too thin.

The ying yang thing again as later stated was a tongue in cheek comment aimed at the sort of Champ Manager (its a computer game whoever asked) poster who is trying so hard not to be an AKB, that they almost become a comical polar opposite. From that you seem to have me down as an AKB and want me banished to China even though on more than 1 occassion I have said Wenger is far from above criticism !!

My view is I rate Wenger very highly, but the squad is thin and would love to see an injection of quality with 3 good signings. At the sametime I am prepared to wait for the transfer window to atleast open before I start slating the guy for not addressing my desire for more quality players. If that makes me an AKB then fine – China here I come !!

Ethan – I haven’t got a clue where you got the idea from that I am some how claiming to know who Wenger is gonna sign – so I can’t really respond to your post – sorry chap.

  206. goonerjay says:

Afternoon Gents…. God i love the summer.

I am really happy today. Not only is the weather nice and hot and all the woman are walking around with next to nothing on… even in my office… which is fucking brilliant but our manager shocked the shit out of me by coming out today and for the first time in a long time made an attempt to to communicate with the fans and show a bit of ambition and almost told us what he is likely to do this summer… i’m fucking astounded.

Anyways… i think Robinho is a tad out of our reach (although he shouldn’t be) but i think Ben Arfa is a very good player and a very likely target for Arsene as our creative player.
As for the CB position that Wenger has clearly labeled as our priority i aint got a clue who he’ll bring in but lets face it… not likely to be any worse than Big Phil.

  207. TH14's Sense of Arrogance says:

Paulinho….absolutely right, quality is always better than quantity…that is why Clichy, Fabregas, Sagna, Van Persie, Hleb etc have been so crucial to Arsenal, but we have the quality in most areas but we also need the depth. It is all very well taking 8 players out and putting 4 class players in but when one of those class players gets injured and you have sold their most likely replacement then we are back to square one. David Villa would be great but if he got injured and Adebayor and Bendtner have been sold who steps in to fill his boots?

  208. Geoff says:

KJS I meant that AKB’s don’t allow anyone to criticise their leader, much the same as China, as we all spend so much on Arsenal, we have the right to do as we please.

I hadn’t realised your tongue in cheekness, over my head, anyway as our site shows, if someone wants to debate with us they can, unlike in AKB-land or China, where you can’t.

    Welcome to our world.

  209. Gidster says:

GMR, thanks for the slight, but Im 36, been a fan since 1978 cup final… a great start too…

I loved GG, I loved the dogs of war… it was a different time, a whole different style of play, but I wasnt one of those who thought the criticism of us under Georgous was unfair. We were hard as nails, we did hoof it long, we weren’t attractive to watch. But sometimes I wish we could bring George on at half time to replace Wenger.

George was an excellent football manager, but a crap coach. He wasnt into personal development of players, just building a win-at-all-costs team (although to be fair, we werent a bunch of cheating divers). And creating a great defensive unit doesnt necessarily make you a great coach. Just ask The Back 4 what it was like training under George. Enjoyable? And the difference in those players when Wenger got them to actually play…

And what is great about Wenger is that there is absolutely no chance whatsoever that he’d sacrifice his pricinples, ideals, and vision for mechanical football which grinds out results. So many managers have won using that method. Wenger is interested in winning in a different way. Its why he’s special…

Highbury 89 is still the greatest moment of my life though. And George is always my pick for next England manager (although a Jock as England manager probably wont happen). But its wrong to think he wasnt flawed, or beyond criticism. GG’s Arsenal are viewed in the same way as the Leeds team of the late 60s/early 70s: an awesome machine, but no prizes for beauty.

  210. TH14's Sense of Arrogance says:

Yeah well said Geoff, we all know both you and Pedro are consistently wrong on more than one occasion. We forgive you for it. Lol

I think you’ll find that Le Grove always has people who will support your point and dispute it. That’s why I love it. I don’t profess to be right all the time so it is good to have someone else explain why i might be misguided or missing something.

The only people who find themselves friendless on here are the ones who come on simply to hammer the blog as a concept or those who think Eboue is a footballer. ; )

  211. Odub says:

it’s a bit too serious on here today, all this he called me an AKB and he’s making irrational comments stuff is a bit too much for me, in my current half cut decidely jolly state!

I shall return when the mood has lightened!!

  212. Pedro says:

Maybe its the new colours next to the comments sending people over the edge?

Where is a good joke when you need one!

Oh, how about Eboue is a brilliant midfielder and better than Sagna at right back?

  213. Paulinho says:

TH14. I personally wouldn’t advocate such a disproportionate ratio between going out/coming in, but I’m just justifying why people would prefer more killer and less filler to those who find the suggestions championship manager-ish.

For instance. Diaby and Denilson. Them two I would sell and bring in one top quality central midfielder or winger.

Those two are a waste of space.

I wouls also get rid of Djorou, Senderos, Hoyte and bring in a top class centre back.

Is that really that crazy? That works out as five players leaving and two coming in. But I would much prefer that to amount of squad- congesting sludge we have now.

  214. Paulinho says:

I’ve just realised, I am suggesting such a disproportionate ratio!

  215. t-buzz says:

Geoff , Pedro, wanna add “Jean Makoun” to the list of players linked with AW this summer? What ever happened to Youan Guoffran fron Caern?

  216. Pedro says:

    Sorted.

  217. goonerjay says:

Odub after some of the sites i’ve seen today you’ve got no chance of me being remotely serious today other than what i said earlier… i am genuinely gob smacked that Wenger almost discussed transfers.

    As requested Pedro

A Kiwi, a sheep, and a dog were survivors of a shipwreck. They found themselves stranded on a deserted island. After being there a while, they got into the habit of going to the beach every evening to watch the sun set.

One particular evening, the sky was a fiery red, with beautiful cirrus clouds, the breeze was warm and gentle; a perfect night for romance. As they sat there, the sheep started looking better and better to the Kiwi. Soon, he leaned over to the sheep and put his arm around it, but the dog got jealous and began growling fiercely until the Kiwi took his arm from around the sheep. After that, the three of them continued to enjoy the sunsets together but there was no more cuddling.

A few weeks passed by, and lo and behold, there was another shipwreck. The only survivor was a beautiful young woman, the most beautiful woman the Kiwi had ever seen. She was in a pretty bad way when they rescued her, but they slowly nursed her back to health. When the young maiden was well enough, they introduced her to their evening beach ritual.

It was another beautiful evening; red sky, cirrus clouds, a warm and gentle breeze – perfect for a night of romance. Pretty soon, the Kiwi started to get “those feelings” again. He fought them as long as he could, but he finally gave in and leaned over to the young woman, cautiously, and whispered in her ear “Would you mind taking the dog for a walk?”

  218. t-buzz says:

    On a lighter note…

A thoroughly trustworthy friend of The Spoiler has sent us a tale
concerning David Bentley’s unorthodox departure from Arsenal:
When Bentley was at Arsenal, he kept putting in transfer requests
    which were rejected.
He went on loan at Norwich, came back, and the
    same thing happened again.

By the summer of 2005, he was completely fed up, so had some special
boots made. On one was written “English and proud,” and the other, “So
I’m never picked.” The next morning at training, he called Arsene
    Wenger over and showed him.

The next day he was moved on to Blackburn.

  219. Pedro says:

    Nice one Goonerjay! haha!

  220. Arsenaldo says:

good list -good post, I would just add Ben Haim who will be cheap ,wants to go and proven in PL and Gomez -goalie from PSV-cheap , very very good , better than ours we have now , wants to go too. Why leaving the bargains go??

  221. t-buzz says:

    Cheers Pedro
Nice one goonerjay, that got me laughing!!

  222. chris says:

chipo ! only 2 out of all the AKB favorites sayings.. ahh theres still hope for you yet !
just blog here everyday .. you mind will be free of the old jedi wenger trick soon enough !
    No dont sell bends !
he is young enough to still learn his trade .. we need a giraffe still , just not 2 of them !
if you think im wrong lets let time prove my convictions wrong . I know wenger doesnt like to have too many similar players .. dont forget RVP – dudu – theo – vela .. All will eventually want to play up front and center .. plus ade wouldnt want to start on the bench the cunts already getting itchy because he believes everything everyone is writing about him !
he wants more money , and improved deal ,barca’s after him (sound familiar?).. he might even get a buy out clause put in his contract :)

swap eto for ade? .. was that a rumor or just wishful thinking from someone here ?
we could really sucker punch them and ask for some cash too !

    raddy -
i think we should sign beyonce ! . shes African ! dances better than eboue
definitely would sell more shirts ! & definitely would have more fans .. !!!
not sure how well she dribbles but im sure all the fans will make up for it !

    shes a winner :)

  224. Finestcuts says:

    Heres a joke:

Why does Eboue play right wing for Arsenal?

Because he flies like a butterfly and stings like a bee.

  225. Finestcuts says:

Why did Eboue cross the road?

Because someone someone kicked a ball at him.

  226. Odub says:

    lol!!

    Funny jokes guys!

Ethan it’s official, you’ve lost the plot mate! Beyonce at RW!! Funny! and then Shaquille O’neal at CB!! big ugly lump problem sorted!!

  227. TH14's Sense of Arrogance says:

Arsene Wenger walks into Colney Training facilities and walks past the pitches, ready for another day’s training. Just as he is about to enter the building he notices a huge pile of poo in the penalty area, then one on the touchline and one in the centre circle….Arsene is furious, he storms into the changing rooms and confronts the first team, shouting ‘Right time to come clean, I want to know who’s shit everywhere on the pitch?’ Eboue looks round and says ‘I am boss, but I’m fairly quick….’

  228. Pedro says:

Nice one TH14… the first Arsenal related joke? Bar finests surreal efforts earlier!

  229. TH14's Sense of Arrogance says:

Hey Finestcuts, ‘why did Eboue cross the road?’, who are you kidding mate, he can’t even cross a fucking ball….

  230. goonerjay says:

And if only he could get smacked from a young vibrant Mohammed Ali… is that how the rest of it goes Finest?

  231. Geoff says:

Nice Joke TH14 but I can’t believe you said I was wro..wrooo… there I can’t even say it!

  232. Finestcuts says:

Another joke….a bit on the darkside, do not read further if you are easily offended:

A bloke was released from Prison after a twenty year stretch and hadn’t seen a woman in years, he was desperate to have a bit of fun, so he went to the red light district in town.

He only had 1 pound on him and asked the bloke on the door to take pity on him. He explained his situation and that he only had a pound on him. He went to the back and brought back a live chicken. The ex-con was desperate, so he paid his pound , he was taken to the back and left to get on with the chicken. He really enjoyed this and next week he came back to the same place with a tenner. He saw the same chap as last time and asked him what he could sort him out with for a crisp tenner.

He was led up a staircase to a balcony and a stage. There was a couple performing an xxx act on the stage. He was really enjoying himself….he saw the other gents were publicly “showing their appreciation” of the performance, so he did likewise. He then told the bloke next to him ” This is a great…I’m coming here more often.”

The man next to him retorted:

“You should have been here last week, there was a bloke on the stage havin’ it with a chicken..”

  233. TH14's Sense of Arrogance says:

Cesc walks up to Eboue in training. Eboue is looking down so Cesc says (in his little spanish voice), ‘Hwhhat’s up Manu? Hwwhy choo look so dyown?’
Eboue sighs and says ‘I am starting to worry that the fans are no longer singing my name. I think they are actually booing me, rather than saying ‘Eboooue’. It’s getting me down. What do you reckon Cesc? You think they boo me when I’m running off?’
‘No stoopid’ says Cesc, ‘Hthey neyver boo choo when choo’re coming off the peetch, choo’re crazy.’
    Eboue smiles and shrugs.
‘Hthey boo choo when choo’re coming on the peetch.’

  234. Ethan_gooner says:

    odub

hey if raddy can say Paula Radcliffe to replace eboue i think its only fair that she should get a look in also :)

best part is wenger could sign her on a free :)

yes ive lost the plot alright ! but after arsene said he is keeping the team together
and 7 days later flamini leaves ive got little faith left … Im not sure who writes arsene’s public statements but i think the name Seinfeld was in there somewhere !

  235. t-buzz says:

Can we really sign Beyoncé? Can we please…?That will boost spirit, team morale…etc If she does, hell, I’ll even subscribe to Setanta!!!

  236. Odub says:

“Where did you get the other shiner?” the boss asked.

  258. TH14's Sense of Arrogance says:

Bloke walks into a butchers and orders some sausages. As he’s being served he says to the bloke ‘ere, bet you can’t guess how old I am mate.’ Butcher looks him up and down and says….
‘Cor, I’d probably say around 30?’
The bloke grins and says ‘Ha. I’m 58 today my good man. 58.’
The butcher raises his eyebrows, ”Blimey sir, you look triffic for a fella your age, well happy birthday.’
The bloke walks round the corner to the bakery to buy some bread. Again he asks the young lady in the shop to guess how old he is. The lady looks at him and says, you can’t be much over 28?’….
‘Not even close’ says the bloke ‘I am 58 years young today.’
‘Wow!’ Exclaims the young lady ‘I would never’ve guessed, you look fantastic.’
‘Thank you’ says the man and walks out whistling. At the bus stop he waits for his bus to take him home and standing next to him is a doddery old bird, must be at least 70. He turns to her and says ‘Hey love, I bet you can’t guess how old I am.’
She looks at him and says ‘I can tell you exactly how old you are but it means me playing with your privates and you touching me.’
‘What?’ says the bloke ‘Are you crazy?’
‘Ok, well I’m just saying I could get it exactly.’
‘Right, you’re on.’ says the bloke and they nip into some bushes. The old dear starts playing with his privates as the bloke plays with her. After about 1 minute the old dear, all flustered stands up and walks out from the bush.
‘You are 58…and if I am not mistaken it is your birthday today.’
‘Wow….how the hell did you know that?’
‘I was behind you in the butchers.’

Once upon a time, there was this guy we knew. His name was Billy. Billy was a fun guy, liked to hang out and stuff. Then one day, something happened which changed Billy’s life forever. He was IM(Instant Messaging) with some friends when he read a very funny joke. He typed “LMAO” as a response, but then it really fell off. It’s true: Billy L’ed so hard his A fell O.

And now Billy’s life is much more difficult. He can’t sit in chairs properly. When he shops for pants, he always has to ask if the store has an A-less department. And just forget about going swimming. It’s such a difficult life. We try and help him as much as we can. Sometimes, though, we L behind his back. His A-less back.

I was in the bookies and there was a woman in there reading a form guide with absolutely massive breasts. I went over to her and was going to say ‘Hey, you got any tips for me?’ and I ended up saying ‘Got any TITS for me, absolute nightmare.’

His mate laughs and says ‘I know just how you feel mate, I was at home the other night with the wife having dinner, and we’re sitting there quietly eating and I was just going to ask her if I could ‘pinch her glass’ and instead I said ‘BITCH, YOU’VE RUINED MY LIFE!’

    Geoff/Pedro

To mark the end of a rather dissapointing season, how about you give us a post asking bloggers to give the following

    1. Player of the season (maybe le champ)
    2. Worst player of the season
    3. Goal of the season
    4. Game of the season

And you guys could also pick a post/comment of the season (one that best matches the Le Grove philosophy of course)and stick all results down the side until next season?

    What do ya think?!

  272. Pedro says:

    It’s all in hand Odub…

I am posting tomorrow, so I will sort something out… some good suggestions, I only had Le Chump and Le Champ!

  273. Odub says:

    Cheers Pedro,

Didnt realise my suggestions were good enough for you to respond twice, but hey!! lol

  274. TH14's Sense of Arrogance says:

I would like to add a caveat those suggestions of ‘Chant of the Season’, the ‘AKB Booby Prize’ and also ‘Ex-Arsenal Player who Flopped the Most’ – candidates a plenty – Freddie, Henry, Sidwell, Cashley etc….

  275. finestcuts says:

Wenger unusually has been feeding the wires today, very good to hear as far as I’m concerned. he calls for evolution not revolution.

“Arsène Wenger has every intention of reinforcing his squad this summer but he believes that the natural development of his current players will be just as important in taking Arsenal to the next level.”

Crystal clear, when Wenger says he isn’t buying that’s what he does, when he is….there is no doubt about it.

“I will try to buy, maybe in the defensive area and one on the creative side of the game as well because we had some players, important players, who were out this year,” said Wenger. “We want as well to bring new talent in on the creative side of our game.

Huntelaar is playing VERY hard to get, reportedly his line is that he wants another season at Ajax under Van Basten and could snub Manyoo for whom he has been a long tem target. if we came along, would he do the same I wonder…

“”This team made 68 points last year and this year 83. That is 15 points difference and in between we lost Thierry Henry and we lost many, many important players during the season. So you cannot say the team has not developed. Now the target for next season must be to make 90 or 92 points.”

Absolutely, this quells many peoples ideas that we somehow lack ambition…..this is Arsenal not AAB Aalborg. If we kept results to the same level AND beat the smaller teams we can win it with what we’ve got already.

I believe we’ll get a trophy and i hope to be there with a cam to film history when it does….and see you all there of course. Can you imagine us winning the Prem and capturing it all on cam?? The scenes of triumph and jubilation…..

Before any of those points are up for grabs, Wenger has a busy summer planned. “How will I spend my summer? On the phone!” he laughed. “On the phone and on the football pitch.

“We are very busy at the moment with [Director] Ken [Friar], he knows that the holidays this year will be shorter than ever. I hope to find a few days but it will be very short.”

We’ll be lively doing deals all summer, we’ll get some of the best in with Ken and Arsene doing the talking, and walking the talk next season.

    http://www.arsenal.com/article.asp?thisNav=news&article=491248&cpid=703&title=Wenger+-+Why+I+am+happy+with+evolution,+not+revolution

    Avoidable points losses:

    Birmingham away
    Wigan away
    M’boro home and away.

Those games cost us 9 points, that’s why Wenger mentions 90 or 92 points.

    83 + 9 = 92

    Do you dare to dream!?

  276. Odub says:

FC add Birmingham and Villa home, another 4 points!!

  277. Paulinho says:

It’s not a given we will win the same games next season as we did this season. West Ham had a disallowed goal, Villa in the second half was shocking. Everton away we were gammy.

Wenger can talk statistics all he wants but unless he gets rid of Senderos and Eboue and brings in at least three top class players its gonna be a case of same old same old. Same story with a different plot.

  278. goonerjay says:

Man with a speach impediment walks into a bakery and says ‘can i have a bum please?’
The woman replies “Don’t you mean a BUN?”
The man bashfully replies “yeah one of those”
He then enters the clock shop and asks the man behind the counter “can i have a cock please?”
The man behind the counter says “do you mean a CLOCK?”
“yeah one of those replies the man” replies the man.

The man then heads to the train station to get the train home after an eventful day shopping.
He goes to buy a ticket “can i have a licket please?”
“Do you mean a TICKET?” replies the ticket man.
“Yeah one of those” replies the man with a feel of embarrassement.

He is standing on the platform when a woman walks over and asks the man for the time.

The man turns to the woman and says…….

“yeah sure, can you hold my bum and licket while i get my cock out?”

The woman never did find out the time

  279. Pedro says:

Interesting post from someone who hasn’t read the article on the AKB part of the site.

Dont tease us Pedro, let’s have a butcher’s?!

Just a question about avatars on here, I’ve uploaded mine a few times and got a message saying:

“Your avatar image has been uploaded and you should start seeing it appear around WordPress.com soon!”

I can’t see it though, how soon is soon?

  282. goonerjay says:

It was Christmas Eve, and a lady hadn’t had sex in a long time, so she decided to wait for Santa. When he came down the chimney, she took off her shirt and said, “Ooh Santa, please stay.”
And he said, “Ho ho ho, guess I better go, gotta get toys to children, ya know.”

So she took off her pants and said, “No no – please stay.”

And he replied, “Ho ho ho, guess I better go, gotta get toys to children, ya know.”

So she took off everything else, and said, “Ooh, please stay.”

And he said, “Hey hey hey, guess I better stay, can’t get up the chimney with my dick this way!”

  283. Pedro says:

Its on there… have a look!

Finest, I can see it now! Is it a black box?

  284. goonerjay says:

One day a man was pissing in a public bathroom and a midget walked in and set up a step-ladder. When the man looked down, he noticed the midget staring at his balls.
“Excuse me, sir,” said the midget. “I was just really admiring your balls. Mind if I hold them?”

    “Why not?” said the man.

So the midget grabs onto one of his balls and says, “Now give me your wallet or I’ll jump!”

I would’nt describe myself as a akb,but the way you guys are talking you may as well be spuds.wenger changed the training facilities, training program, and the way players were scouted from all around the world.Throw in our new 60,000 seater stadium, this is the vision of one man.Once wenger goes then moan. Are you thfc in disgiuse.

Shit I didnt realise AW built the stadium single handedly as well, man he’s got skills!! Where do people get this idea that AW rebuilt the club from scratch!! Amazing!

  287. finestcuts says:

Or this, it had a black background…..but it looks like the image size completely cancels out any detail.

  288. chris says:

finest a day is what it means by shortly,

  289. finestcuts says:

Nope it’s gone back to being a black box hmmmm

  290. finestcuts says:

It can take a day to work, thats how long mine took.

Two blokes were walking through a cemetery when they happened upon a tombstone that read:
“Here lies John Sweeney, a good man and a Chelsea fan.”
So, one of them asked the other: “When the hell did they start putting two people in one grave?”

  293. Odub says:

chris, the 3rd one is one of my all time fav highbury moments!! the goal that preceeded that moment was priceless!!

  294. James73 says:

    Re Odub’s 4.29pm post.

Those comments are frankly unbelievable. Do some of our fans really think that? Was there life before AW? You have to laugh.

    Some (quite bad) humour:

A man walks into a bar and asks the barmaid for a double entendre. So she gives him one.

  295. goonerjay says:

Little Mary was not the best student in Sunday School. Usually she slept through the class. One day the teacher called on her while she was napping, ”Tell me, Mary, who created the universe?” When Mary didn’t stir, little Johnny, an altruistic boy seated in the chair behind her, took a pin and jabbed her in the rear. ”God Almighty !” shouted Mary and the teacher said, ”Very good” and Mary fell back to sleep.

A while later the teacher asked Mary, ”Who is our Lord and Savior?” But Mary didn’t even stir from her slumber. Once again, Johnny came to the rescue and stuck her again. ”Jesus Christ!” shouted Mary and the teacher said, ”Very good,” and Mary fell back to sleep. Then the teacher asked Mary a third question, ”What did Eve say to Adam after she had her twenty-third child?” And again, Johnny jabbed her with the pin. This time Mary jumped up and shouted, ”If you stick that damn thing in me one more time, I’ll break it in half!” The Teacher fainted.

  301. Odub says:

Got that season, the cup final, the 01 double all on VHS! I wonder if DVDs are available!

Anyway I’m off fellas, have a good one!

  302. James73 says:

  312. Paulinho says:

“Hleb is leaving Arsenal. This has become known today after the Belorussian player officially notified his manager Wenger about his decision to switch clubs.”

    His agent, Nikolai Shpilevskiy, said:

“Sasha is ready to make one of the most serious steps in his life. Despite the fact that Arsenal would not mind offering him a new long-term deal on much better terms. Time will tell whether my player has made a right choice. But there is now no room for retreat. The question of Hleb’s leaving Arsenal will be settled within the next two weeks.”

  313. goonerjay says:

Not the funniest joke i’ve been sent but does make you chuckle… thought i would share it with you guys.

I’m trying to save some for tomorrow being Friday and all

In 1993, the University of Kentucky did a study to see why the head of
    a man’s penis was
larger than the shaft. After one year and $ 80,000.00, they concluded
    that the reason the
head was larger than the shaft was to give the man more pleasure
    during sex.
After the study was published, the University of South Carolina
    decided to do their own
study. After $250,000.00, and 3 years of research, they concluded that
    the reason was to
give the woman more pleasure during sex.
The University of Georgia, unsatisfied with these findings, conducted
    their own study.
After 2 weeks and a cost of around $75.46, they concluded that it was
    to keep a man’s
hand from flying off and hitting him in the forehead.

  314. patthegooner says:

Do you have a link for that Paulinho

Lets face it, it was on the cards

  315. goonerjay says:

    what’s your source Paulinho?

  316. choy says:

    lol.. goonerjay!!!

    o lord… its come a full circle hasn’t it..

most people wanted hleb and flamini to leave last year…

  317. Paulinho says:

From football italia. Some dude on Redcafe obviously translated it.

    http://www.redcafe.net/f9/hleb-out-arsenal-201289/

  318. Geoff says:

Yeah, do you believe it? I don’t. If he does go it will not be his choice, but if he asks to, we should get his arse out in a hurry.

  319. patthegooner says:

Here is the rather funny translation of that page

Alexander Gleb, after three years of speeches over the English team Arsenal is leaving London.
This became known today after Belarusian legionnaire formally announced his intention to change the club head coach Cannoneer Arsène Wenger.

Sasha ready to do one of the most serious and responsible steps in your life – told PB manager Gleb Nikolai Shpilevsky. Despite the fact that Arsenal do not like to offer him a new long-term contract at a much more favorable terms. Time will show whether it received my ward. But nowhere to retreat already. The question of moving to another club Gleb finally clarified within two weeks.

According to the BoP, it will be Italian Inter, whose coach Roberto Mancini does not conceal the desire to get in your team captain the Belarusian national team, and black and blue ready to offer a much more solid Alexandru wages than in the Arsenale. Recall that, under Article 17 of FIFA regulations, Gleb two years before the expiry of its five-year agreement has the right to redeem the remainder of the contract and be sold for a fixed amount to be clearly lower than 11.2 million pounds, paid Arsenal in 2005, the German Stuttgart. So Cannoneer have no choice but otherwise, as a stand for Gleb moderate amount that will not be much higher this fixed. Otherwise, the Inter just redemption for our compatriot remainder of his contract with Arsenal.

not sure legit the Website is, for all we know it is a tribal football style site, but I think we all know he wants out anyway

  320. finestcuts says:

The creative player Wenger is looking for looks likely to be someone to replace Hleb+Rosicky, someone who can play on both wings meaning we’re most likely to see a Flamini replacement from within.

  321. patthegooner says:

That would definately be a mistake to promote from within to replace Flamini

Not fogetting Diarra has gone too, it is already apparent we are short in squad depth, that will cripple us. Neither Song, Denilson, Diarra or Gilberto are currently good enough to fill that gap

  322. GMR says:

Paulinho, I hope that story about Hleb is true. The guy doesn’t appear to want to stay at Arsenal so I’d prefer all those that want out are sold so the club can move forward with committed players. Whether that will happen or not is a different matter.

  323. GMR says:

Who’s given me a dodgy grey table cloth??

  324. goonerjay says:

oh joy… and just when i thought the day was going well regarding arsenal

  325. patthegooner says:

once Pleb has gone, I think we honestly need four quality players in. 2 Wingers, a CM and a CB

God this looks like another Season of Eboue

  326. choy says:

so kranjcar is on the way then… hope ben arfa too…

  327. goonerjay says:

I feel a small mood lightener is in need

  328. Paulinho says:

I think it will be his choice. He hasn’t exactly got quality putting pressure on him at Arsenal. Wenger is obviously desperate to keep him as well. He knows that you get an extra 15 percent out of Fabregas if Hleb plays. Them two are vital to the possession game Wenger has moved towards in recent years.

I found it very strange how players seem to grow so easily disillusioned at our club. It’s suppose to be a utopian existence.

If he wants to go though, feck him.

  329. goonerjay says:

Through the kitchen window a farmer’s wife sees her
son coming home from school. The boy’s in a bad mood,
and as he crosses the field he kicks a pig. He walks a
little further and kicks a cow. Once inside, his
mother says, “I saw what you did, young man! For
kicking the pig you’ll get no bacon for a week, and
for kicking the cow, no milk for a week.”
Just at that moment, the boy’s father walks through
the door and boots the cat halfway across the room.
The boy looks at his mother and says, “Do you wanna
tell him, or should I ?”

  330. GMR says:

Paulinho, where did you see that story??

  331. Paulinho says:

There has to be a point though when we hold our ground and show some resistance. Like United did with Ronaldo after the 06 world cup.

We can’t keep saying ‘if players want to go they can go’ because it will be a never ending cycle of players just pissing off when they feel like it.

  332. Geoff says:

GMR they are just random! Choy, where did you read that?

  333. Paulinho says:

    Redcafe.

  334. GMR says:

Geoff, well sort it out!! Grey doesn’t suit my happy go lucky nature!!!

  335. patthegooner says:

Hleb is not Ronaldo though, and given that he only has 2 years left on his contract he will either look into that new law or cause merry hell in the club to get a move

Lets get rid and get Robinho and Ben Arfa

  336. GMR says:

Why doesn’t Wenger just be a bit more honest with the fans. We all know Hleb met up with Inter Milan but we don’t know who’s idea it was.

Rather than Wenger saying he wants to keep Hleb I’d like him to tell the fans if Hleb actually wants to stay or leave. If he wants to go then let him, why does he need to try & convince him to stay, its pointless.

As a fan I only want to see players at Arsenal that are fully commited.

  337. Pedro says:

GMR, saw you fighting a one man AKB battle earlier…! Very amusing!

The patterns look like the stick to the names of people! haha!

It will change tomorrow I suspect!

Looks like it could be another good days blogging! It’ll be 400 by the time the night shift takeover!

  338. Geoff says:

Sorry mate, we can’t control it, why don’t you get your own moniker like some of the others have?

Scroll back through the comments, they’ve been talking about how to do it for ages.

  339. Pedro says:

Honest like Rafa today, Kewell is going, Crouch can go for £15mill and he is trying to sign Barry but wont speak till after the weekend!

I’d like some of that from Arsene!

  340. choy says:

    read what geoff

  341. patthegooner says:

    Well said GMR

To me he agreed to meet them, so regardless of who’s idea it was, I think he has to accept blame, especially the night before a major fixture.

Like Flamini, Hleb is replaceable, just got to hope that Wenger will actually replace them. Or maybe he will go absoloutely barking mad and try and convert Fabianski into a Winger.

  342. GMR says:

Pedro, I don’t usually get involved with other sites but I made a sensible comment to an article & an AKB member jumped on me straight away. F***in idiot!!

I hate gutless people, its great on here having a debate but these AKB idiots who start abusing people from the safety of their homes/schools/work place really p*** me off!!

  343. choy says:

    these patterns are pschyodelic

  344. GMR says:

Well I’m lucky really because Grey will never go out of fashion, as its never been in fashion!!

    Now who remembers that advert??

  345. goonerjay says:

Choy i think some of them look like Wengers formation diagrams.

  346. Geoff says:

    The bit about Kranjcar Choy.

  347. choy says:

yes i guess so.. and i can see eboue out of formation and doing nothing lol…!!!

  348. GMR says:

Geoff at a guess I think Choy was just saying he thinks Kranjcar will arrive if Hleb is going!!

  349. choy says:

o kranjcar… there were some people here and on arsenal mania saying that it was a done deal…

he plays on the left and CM right.. pretty useful player i think.

  350. Pedro says:

Wouldn’t it be nice to buy additions instead of replacements all the time?

  351. choy says:

it would pedro it would… but i think arsene is fed up of players complaining…

lehmann went about almost all year whining.. so did diarra..

and there were a couple of more making noises…

  352. Pedro says:

Lets hope the replacements are top notch then!

  353. GMR says:

    Pedro,

I had to laugh at Benitez, he goes in with an offer of 10 million (made up with bags of coal a few packs of sweeties, some s*** players & a couple of quid in cash) for Barry who is now a first choice England player & someone who has become very influential over the past couple of years. Then with a straight face he puts a 15 million valuation on Crouch.

For a spanish waiter he makes a good comedian!!

  354. Trinidad_Gunner says:

BRUSSELS, May 8 (Reuters) – The European Parliament dealt another blow to FIFA president Sepp Blatter’s controversial plans to curb the number of foreigners at soccer clubs by voting against the proposals on Thursday.

EU lawmakers rejected Blatter’s ’6+5 rule’, allowing no more than five foreign players to start a match, by 518 votes to 49 but most backed the ‘home-grown player rule’ of European soccer’s governing body UEFA.

‘The parliament calls on the member states and sports associations not to introduce new rules that create direct discrimination based on nationality, such as FIFA’s 6+5,’ the resolution said.

  355. Abdenor says:

    Hi lads…

I like the idea of having someone Like Buffon between the sticks, he make you feel safe but Despite Lehmann’s impending departure, Wenger had said that he will not sign a new keeper. Therefore Fabianski will Battle it out with Almunia on next term.

So Hleb’s days look to be numbered! He’s not that good , yes he can dribble ……………. into dead ends! if you can tell what else he can do then i’m all ears!

If we get £15 mill + offer I’ll help pack his bags and give him a lift to the airport.

I hope the Inter fans enjoy watching him run around in circles there and when they draw Barca in the champions league he has ice cream with one of their guys while discussing a transfer

  356. Geoff says:

Flamini was one of Wengers home grown kids, well as home grown as any of them.

  357. david says:

Benitez works the price out on £5 million pounds per metre.
    Red please!

  358. choy says:

    haha the dumb fcuk blatter…

    518-49.. hahahah

  359. goonerjay says:

Blatter is a cock… i wish someone would rigerously rub a cheese grater across his face and then cover the wounds with salt… fucking wanker.

But it is good to see that pathetic rule rejected… heavily rejected at that.
The only way you could describe that sort of rejection is that it is the same as your hand falling asleep half way through masturbation.

  360. choy says:

what hleb did was truly sad.. on the eve of the biggest game of the season.. you go to negotiate transfer with other clubs?!

    disgrace.

  361. SIMON MCAHON says:

Has anyone seen the green baize of a pitch that wigan have laid funnily enough before the last game of the season, against their old friends manure,,, i guess it would be very funny of me to suggest that there is a plot to keep the trophy up NORTH.
just watch them get battered by manure’s passing game,
Its ironic though when we got to play them in march you would not have run a donkey derby on that excuse for a pitch, and the league did not sanction them.
Check out CUELLAR next week for rangers looks like the kick the crap out of the striker and put the ball in row z kind of centre half we need ………..

  362. Paulinho says:

We should start a petition for Cuellar. The guy loves heading the ball clear.

  363. bigraddy says:

Rikjaard is a knob. I cannit forgive him for spitting at Voeller (another knob) in the World Cup. Any man capable of that kind of behaviour deserves the season he has had at Barca. His face last night was a gem !!

First touch of the ball by Higuain….. goal
    ” ” ” Horseface……. Goal.

Superb. Let’s hope he gets the Chelsea or Man Citeh job

  364. bigraddy says:

And a heavier bigger knob is Blatter. How the fuck does an idiot like that get the power he has ?

On the subject of total knobs…….. Platini. Great player, knob of a man

  365. Michael says:

Flamini gone, Lehmann gone, Diarra went, Hleb will probably go, Rosicky and Van Persie always injured, Hoyte and Gilberto not upto standard, Its going to be a hard task to actually have a stonger squad next season. If Wenger only replaces players that leave how in the world will we be stronger next season. Its certainly going to be interesting this summer to see what the manager will do.

  366. bigraddy says:

Also inhabiting Knobville ……… Mourinho, Ramos, Redknapp (man + boy), the cunts that work at Talksport, Mark Lawrenson, John Terry, Lamps, Ash, Keane (Roy + Robbie), Viduka, Taylor, Aaron Lennon, Pennant,

    Care to add any more?

  367. bigraddy says:

We do not need a bigger squad, just a better one. The layers that have come in and not been great will have benfitted from the experience. Of the kids only Djourou seems to have gone backwards. Bendtner, Theo, Diaby, Traore have all devloped through time on the pitch. A few new signings and we will have strength in depth

  368. Geoff says:

Yes but Hoyte and Denilson haven’t and I’m not sure the others will be world class.

  369. don says:

    ya ya toure.1 robinho.2 benzima.3 richards.4 nasri.5 eto.6
we need these 6 to get over the loss of sendaros flamini gilberto hleb and maybe cesc

  370. Paulinho says:

Apart from Bendtner, our youngsters haven’t progressed at all.

  371. Geoff says:

Randall and Gibbs couldn”t even make the Burnley or Norwich starting line ups, why are they making ours next season???

  372. bigraddy says:

Denilson got injured just as his opportunity arose. I think he will get there. Brazil Cpt etc etc

goodbye Hoyte – shame because it is always good to have a local gooner in the team. .

As to world class, if we have 4 w.c. players we will win the league. We have one and perhaps 3 (Fab, Bac and Gael), so we need another. And hopefully AW will sign him in summer.

Even the Invincibles weren’t all world class. In that team we had TH,DB, RP, SC, PV. Freddie, \Wiltord, Lauren, Ash, Lehmann, Kolo, were not w.c. Nor was our subs bench

  373. bigraddy says:

    Paulinho, I don’t agree.

  374. bigraddy says:

By that I mean that the players listed after PV were NOT w.c.

  376. paokg4 says:

get montolivo the guy is a brainiac can do everything

  377. GMR says:

For once I agree with Bigraddy, we don’t need a bigger squad just a better quality one.

Having said that I don’t agree about how the some of the youngsters he mentioned are doing. It’s unfair to say Djourou has gone backwards considering Wenger didn’t ever play him. Denilson & Hoyte look well off the pace when they get a game, Diaby doesn’t & never has been able to maintain form over 90 minutes & Senderos is possible the worst player I’ve ever seen. His positioning is awful, he cannot jump unless he has no-one around him, when the balls on the ground he has to take several steps backwards before he can play it, he can’t run & he can’t turn, all in all not great assets for a defender!!

  378. Stupid says:

just sign Benzema and watch him tear up defences.

The man is super incredible, i’m telling you who ever signs this beast of a player will run things.

  379. Stupid says:

lol, who gave me the flipping swatstika thingy ?

  380. Geoff says:

    Nice touch Adolf!

  381. Abdenor says:

    Agree…..

Benzema would be my choice if we were to purchase a striker but how much would he cost?? over £25 mill me think, it could be lot more if he bags a few goals in the euros!

  382. Paulinho says:

This Wenger question time is cringeworthy. Some of the questions are quite to the point. Wenger will sure have a wake up call in regards to fans not questioning him anymore. I thought I was critical.

  383. t-buzz says:

Wow these avatars are cool man!! Feels like I’ve smoked something I shouldnt have. lol

Bigrad, I get your poit with regards getting a better squad but i still feel we need a bigger squad. We need to be able to confidently field two quality teams from our squad cos next season we need to compete for every trophy available. We can keep missing out every season .
Fine, the kids get us to the final or semis of Crapling(Carling)cup only to loose to another team that fielded a stronger team. It aint cool having to jear every year,”Zé boyz played well even zo we loze zé game.I am very proud of zé boyz”. Sooo tierd of that speech!!

  384. Stupid says:

yeah this question time thing with wenger is really good.

good question about RVP and his injuries and also not playing a proper team in the semis of the carlton cup ( as good old bob wilson keeps calling it )

  385. t-buzz says:

Looks like the fcuking media wants Aresenal disarray with this type of sh!tty stories.

  386. gazzap says:

feeling well depressed now about the Hleb situation. his agent says there is no way back and that Hleb is leaving Arsenal. wenger will have no money left after he has replaced the 2 that have left. we will go backwards. fuck.

  387. Paulinho says:

How can he say Rosicky’s injury is minor? He been out for six months! I’ve love to know what Wenger thinks is a major injury.

  388. Stupid says:

    fuck em

    fuck em all

fuck em all in the eye

our three new musketeers will do the bizness

    theo, carlos & rvp

  389. Geoff says:

Not true Hleb will be sold, Wenger has already rubbished the buy out crap.

If the Ade story is true, let the nasty cunt rot in the reserves and buy Benzema or Villa. If Wenger sets an example now, this won’t happen again, if had done it to Anelka he wouldn’t have this problem now.

I don’t believe we are the only team that can’t pay salaries, how do all the others manage? with the exception of Chelsea.

All these players that are disloyal characterless cunts were his choices, so let the buck stop with him.

I’m now depressed and going to hit the sack.

    Until the morning Grovers.

  390. Stupid says:

VERY positive sign of major signings this summer, when asked about holidaying this summer he smiled and pointed to ken friar ( who helps in all transfer negs since dein got booted out ) and said WE have a very busy summer ahead.. i quote

    “the busiest summer ever”

Hmmmmm, certainly going to be the most exciting close season for transfers since maybe 97/98 time.

  391. Stupid says:

i think a big tall hardcase centre half will be his first signing this summer.

i would guess mexes or squillaci.

  392. patthegooner says:

I think Hleb is gone, Wenger’s talk is probably aimed at getting as much out of Inter as possible. I certainly don’t want to keep an unhappy player. I wonder if Flamini was a bit of a barrackroom lawyer in all of this and has slowly talked everyone into wanting more.

As for Ade, there is no real direct quote there and it does seem a little strange given the interviews given by Adebayor himself not 24 hours ago

I actually expected this, the press do it to Arsenal every year, they sense all is not right so just go all in for the kill in the media…

‘Now is not the time to talk about his contract. We’ll wait until next week.’ does not really mean a lot to me, I am sure if he is on 35k a week then they probably will be talking to Arsenal about improved terms. The press are very good at asking the right questions to get the response they want, they then read into it and print what they like.

  393. Paulinho says:

Wenger hasn’t rubbished the buy out clause. He has just spieled his usual guff about showing ‘absolute disrespect’ and all that stuff. He doesn’t really understand clubs don’t give a toss about these moral values anymore and will have little trouble invoking clauses. It is as simple as it looks if morals are discarded.

However Inter proabably won’t need to. Hleb will say he wants to go and Wenger will have little choice. Nothing Wenger says about wanting to keep him holds any weight with me. It’s happened before and players have left regardless.

  394. El Tel says:

Big Raddy As usual you are spot on with the Cuntsville thing. Match of the Day mob are all cunts including that non personality Dixon. Sky have the biggest cunt ever in Dick Keyes. I don’t mind their panel on sky sports news but apart from Tyler they are cunts. Robbie Keane top cunt hope he breaks his fucking neck doing a girly cartwheel. ALL the Mancscum are cunts every fucking one of them. Terry, Lumplard, Cashley, Drogshit are top cunts. The nobody who snapped Edu’s leg fucking dirty scum cunt. All the Manc’s mates oop north are cunts. I am bitter and twisted and dislike far to many people.

  395. El Tel says:

I am amazed at the indifference between us. Most want Hleb to go (not productive) Ade is not good enough (wasteful). Yet get all doom and gloom when they want to leave. AW hasn’t been generous to Ade and said he must improve. Maybe he is getting rid and signing someone more prolific. Aw will talk Hleb up to raise the transfer fee but he has replacements for both these players already at the club.

  396. patthegooner says:

Right thats me for the night, over to you Far East and Aus and the States the other way

Lets see what tomorrow brings and which Arsenal Player the press try to unsettle. Surely Sagna should be in for some Barca or Real Madrid stories soon

  397. El Tel says:

In my opinion we must get a Keeper and obviously a CB. The guy who said don’t see the keeper as being blamed for not winning the Prem should look at CD of our season if there is one. Far to many gifts by old Coco when we had the lead. Yes the defence were at fault but he is the hub of this defence. Can anyone find the stats for Manuel Almunia for this season goals per shot and compare with all the other keepers in the Prem. Poxy useless goalkeeper. How many free kicks did he concede. How many 1on 1′s did he save. Penalty saves. What were the kind of goals he conceded most, was it flapping from corners or did he just stay on the line. I saw most of our games and I have my own idea but maybe the stats will prove me wrong.

  398. El Tel says:

If RVP and Sicky had played more then they would have been linked to other clubs too. maybe they are not injured but AW doesn’t want other teams to see how good they are. :-)

  399. Paulinho says:

What replacement do we we have for Hleb? Your having a laugh if you think Carlos Vela can fill the void.

  400. El Tel says:

Going soon as everyone is sleeping. My wish list is. Gomes in goal. Alex at CB. Robinho or Ronaldinho (thats the reason we must keep Bert he is our Brazilian ambassador) Huntellar. Richards. Elano or Petrov or SWP.

  401. Goons_with_Guns says:

    Sagna just extended, patthegooner!

As I said before Richards will sign for us next season.

Really need a Coupet, Frey (although he was shite in UEFA and the last few games) because Aloofina is rubbish–at least with Jens, no one fucked with him. Buffon is a fucking fascist so he won’t come play with Africans or anything not Italian.

I believe some of the Barca Brigade will popping over only if Riikjaard is sacked (he will) and they like their new coach (Moanrinho or Eriksson so no) so hello Ya ya. Henry would be too expensive for his age and won’t want to take a cut for a squad role.

Arsene will surprise us with some no-names again, as usual.

Let’s buy our necessary players get’s this silly season over with, and get the Ashburton Cup started already!

  402. El Tel says:

Fabrigas to play further up and have Toure, Sicky, Dennilson, Diaby, Walcott, RVP, Bert plus a couple of signings. Diaby could be Hlebs replacement too. How’s that having a laugh. Hleb is never a real winger mate have you ever seen him do a FB and sling a cross in. Hlebs work was mostly done all around the box.

  403. El Tel says:

Carlos Vela wasn’t in my mind as I have never seen him play.

  404. Stupid says:

Denilson could do a job, certainly a lot tougher than the lightweight fucking fairy pleb.

    fucking nob.

  405. Stupid says:

on second thoughts, lets get ronaldinho :)

  406. finestcuts says:

I don’t think Hleb will be with us for long if he stays, another season at the most.
How can any player who has 2 years left on his contract meaning if the club need to negotiate the official way is to contact Arsenal and discuss it with the manager?
That’s why Wenger says it’s not so easy, they still have to contact him first, the player who left via a Webster only had 1 year left on his contract, he was personally entitled to speak to other teams to negotiate for next year, but the club said no and he bought his contract out.
It would take Hleb going up to Wenger and saying “I want to leave the club” for the clause to kick in.
The question then becomes why? Is it because you want to go to another club.
If the answer is simply to become a free agent it would be the first move of it’s kind and a club taking on such a player risk losing millions, they set an example to their remaining players that this would be an acceptable way to leave.
Hleb’s ice cream story is so foolish and is basically a slap in the face to everyone at the club, but does he give a shit? No because he’s “world class”. About as world class as Usmanov’s fat arse.
The guy feels threatened, he knows his end product is low and he is still “untapped potential’. Great dribbling skills but his job description accounts for a fair share of goals, and for an Attacking midfielder it’s below par, even Larsson scored more than him. Even Malbranque the spud had more assists than him, Hleb is at about the same level as him, but can dribble………………
Hleb is just an Arsenal version of Malbranque, a workman player who makes a contribution, but seriously he’s not as creative as what we’re looking for.

  407. Stupid says:

he is certainly more wateful than many believe.

rosicky is a much better all round player.

  408. Paulinho says:

    A workman player. Whatever.

  409. finestcuts says:

Paulinho, where are the goals? Goals, do we not expect goals of our creative players?

  410. Gnarley George says:

Bloody hell!! This blog keeps reinventing itself; all new funky icons. And 400+ comments again, don’t people go to the pub anymore to talk footy. Anyway, its still sounds like nothing has been resolved with transfers, with all of you over there in “ol’blighty “.Next time I post a comment it’ll be about why Barry was signed and/or Karim Benzema will be a revelation up forward with the Togo Termite.

  411. Paulinho says:

As Wenger said in Arsenal TV tonight, it’s not important where the goals are coming from, what’s important is how many the team scores as a unit. We’ve scored the same amount of goals this year as the invincible side.

It’s all very well buying a player who on paper has good stats ie. Ashley Young, but if he is technically not on the same level as Hleb and the team overall doesn’t score more goals, are we a better team going foward?

Too much is made of direct assists anyway. Often the main work is done a few passes before the final assist, which is usually a simple squared ball, especially in Arsenal’s system. Hleb often does this work early in the move.

His goals record is frustrating but in terms of creativity and making a team flow and making players look better than they are(Eboue in 2006 champs league) he is a unique player.

  412. finestcuts says:

When did world class Hleb last score a goal in the Premier League? In November against Reading, his other was against Fulham.

Hleb can pop a couple in against relegation teams……world class that.

2 Premier League goals, the guy is an over-rated joker.

I bet Mr. Whippy loves a screwball.

  413. finestcuts says:

Yeah the unit argument always works, it doesn’t matter who scores as long as we win, but we need both, a skillful player who also can score goals regularly, making a contribution to a unit and being a cog in the works doesn’t entitle him to believe that his skill level is superior to those who are as quick and accurate as him. There are many many better players than Hleb, he’s a good little reliable cog but it does not excuse him from contributing with the finished product, he’s not a defender.

  414. finestcuts says:

Cogs are easier to find than quality players, because he plays for Arsenal doesn’t make him all that. He’s a Premier League player but there are many who can take his place. I mean it’s not like we’re losing Henry here, this guy can and will be replaced who can do the cog job and score more.

  415. Paulinho says:

I can’t understand your logic Finestcuts. You slate one of our best players this season- generally accepted by everyone- and yet you big up all this shite we have in reserve like Diaby and Denilson, who have done precisely zilch whenever they have played this season and were giving lessons in midfield by the likes of Jamie O’Hara in the carling cup.

Did you not watch games without Hleb this season? Newcastle away, Boro away, Seville away, Prague away? All complete crap without any creativity whatsoever.

  416. DeeOzGooner says:

hlebs manager has said its on like donkey kong! from setanta:
“He is leaving Arsenal even though they want to offer him a new long-term contract and better conditions. There’s no way back now.”

so another player leaves the squad…geeez cesc must be feeling pretty lonely now!

  417. Paulinho says:

Flamini is a cog. Overrated water carrier he was. Hleb doesn’t need players like Adebayor, Eboue, and Flamini to make him look good. They need him.

  418. DeeOzGooner says:

fkn cunts flamoney and pleb….wenger brings em in, makes em into great players…and this is how they repay him…fkn shitcunts!!!

  419. Paulinho says:

I agree, both of them are cunts if they leave.

  420. Paulinho says:

    Well, Flamini has already left.

  421. finestcuts says:

He is a good player, but he is also over-rated. Denilson and Diaby are up and coming and I said earlier we expect big things of them in the next 12 months. Can Hleb improve? Yes he can. He is above average but lets not say he is world class or irreplacable.
My logic is; we can get a player who does just as good a job but makes a greater contribution. Hleb works hard on the pitch, there’s no denying that. Hleb by his own admission is frightened of taking a shot at goal.
Of course we’ll lack creativity without another player there to replace him which means that even though he’s good, he’s not outstanding, he’s nothing compared to Pires and thats the kind of player we need in his position.
10/10 for movement……other areas are lacking. Hleb is not a complete player, his game doesn’t give us enough edge.

  422. Paulinho says:

He is not faultness that’s for sure, but I still think many many fans still do not quite understand exactly what he brings to the team. As I mentioned, watch the games without him and maybe that might hit home a little. Against Villa, widely acclaimed as the best first half of the season, Hleb was man of the match playing behind Ade. Fabregas wasn’t even playing.

He is so much more than carling opta stats and no one in our squad is anywhere near him.

He also makes Cesc give another 15 per cent, as Cesc has said himself. Hleb makes him a better player because they both understand eachother.

Anyway, he’s gone now but replacing him with a statistically better player is not as simple as it looks.

This version of Wenger ball is officially gone. We are back to the invincible type directness if we sign a direct replacement. Shame, especially when that type of game doesn’t suit Cesc. If we had Vieira, no problem.

  423. Paulinho says:

I think you will be disappointed with Diaby and Denilson. They were supposed to be up and coming last summer. Instead they’ve stayed still, or in Denilson’s case gone backwards. They are really nothing to get excited about.

  424. Hughsie says:

Denilsons problem is that he’s being tutored by Gilberto, and often played as a defensive mid next to Fabregas rather than in a more offensive role that i think he’d prefer.

Diaby started the season in smashing form but for whatever reason, likely injury’s just didnt get going after he started to miss a few games. I’d like to see him get super fit and Wenger to give him a more central role next year, get him to run around and hold the line and hack a few leg bones whilst Fabregas plays in a more advanced position.

  425. Hughsie says:

hey, what is this green avatar thing i’ve got next to my posts?

  426. Paulinho says:

Denilson just doesn’t have the engine and he finds it physically impossible to make runs beyond the strikers like Fabregas does. Plenty of times this season he has played in the cesc role alongside Gilberto and still he just strolls around doing very little.

  427. Ethan_gooner says:

    geoff

    you need to read this
    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/article1143082.ece

    sounds unofficially OFFICIAL !

  428. DeeOzGooner says:

they havent come on as expected…BUT…diaby is still yet to be played thru the middle & denilson did not get a run of games this season…so i reserve judgement…

but doubt they can impose themselves as much as where hoping…not yet anyway

  429. finestcuts says:

Maybe the old Cesc who A.’ole called an “unproven featherweight” could find it tough but Cesc has matured so much, he is a tough player now. The old skill v aggression argument….Cesc’s game DOES suit the invincible style, but it doesn’t mean Cesc having to do bone crunching tackles, with a player like Barry next to him the direct approach is not a problem.

Of course we missed Hleb when he wasn’t there, but if we had someone there instead of him we would have been fine. I rate Bentley over Hleb any day of the week. As for Cesc’s buddy Hleb, I’m glad he did his job and improved Fabregas’ game, but a great player like Cesc won’t find it difficult to work together with other talented players.

pass-pass-pass has been exagerrated, we need a mix of Arsenal Mk II and Arsenal MkIII (this geneartion) to win the Premier League, there wasn’t enough action taken when there were perfectly good chances. We’ve improved in that area but that extra directness you mention is just what we need.

  430. arsenaldo says:

I saw this picture of hleb, flam i cesc partying 2gether in the SUN. so 2 of them already gone-I hope at least Cesc stays. But if we dont win anything and cant afford to pay him what he deserves hell be gone in max 2 years-believe me.

  431. Ethan_gooner says:

    finest cuts

i wouldnt talk to loud , if you think hleb can only score against crap teams how about ade?
And he’s our main spear head !!!
only goal ade scored against the top 4 this season was thanks to a theo setup !
if it wasnt for theo ruining his record he would have been scoreless against the top 4 this season !

He is not someone you can rely on to score goals when we need them the most !

  432. Ethan_gooner says:

    oh this is good

read this about ade the love of everyones lives !

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/sport/football.html?in_article_id=564936&in_page_id=1779&ct=5

  433. arsenaldo says:

Directness..your right fincuts. we need midfielders who can shoot. We r the only team in the world who doesnt have shots from outside the pen area, and this is big minus to our play , as it si very predictable. Goalkeepers can sit and relax when play against us,when the ball is outside the pen-area.needs changing

  434. DeeOzGooner says:

man cant beleive spurs are seriously in contention for etoo…and we’re losing players!

  435. arsenaldo says:

And now they say Ade wants 80k :? ?? fuck em. who wants to go -just fucking go arseholes-just go somewhere and be only a hole-hihihihi

  436. Paulinho says:

And yet Hleb left Bentley completely in the shade when Arsenal played Blackburn at the Emirates. Hleb got Setanta man of the match while Bentley, the slow coach, could only throw in a few thirty yard crosses that went nowhere.

Bentley is a more direct player but he can’t see the game like Hleb. Very few can.

Fabs will be very pissed with Hleb gone. Looking forward to his next media day. Some strong quotes I would imagine.

  437. finestcuts says:

Ethan, we need another top scorer playing next to Ade. Bendtner’s been in development all season, RVP has too, not enough goals from Hleb, Eboue or Flamini, nor assists for that matter.

Ade will improve again next season as he did this, I mean what a leap forward from 4 goals to 30…….if he can make such a big improvement can he not improve his accuracy. After 30 goals I think so.

Next season we’ll get more goals from midfield from the players we replace with this lot, people will once again expect more from their midfielders, we can have a team based on our pivot but is this really the new generation style. I was under the impression that the whole team idea meant we have quality all over the shop not just pass the buck tup front and let them finish it off. Were Pires, Bergkamp or Viera like that…..they certainly weren’t.

And where did they get us?

Flamini and Heb were not as good as who they replaced, stop gap players who look good because of strategy rather than their own contribution, something that once again cannot be attributed to Pires, Bergkamp or Viera .

Who would we rather have, a fully fit Pires, Bergkamp and Fabregas or Hleb, Flamini and Fabregas. This will split opinions, but we need to improve upon Flamini and Hleb with Bergkamp and Piresesque players, we should not abandon that ambition neither should we start downgrading our standards to suit new players. Flamini and Hleb are perfect opportunities to make a good team even better.

  438. Stupid says:

rosicky will need to step up, he is a better player than hleb.

how easily we have forgotten about little tomas.

  439. Paulinho says:

They didn’t get us anywhere in europe anyway. They didn’t even play good football there either.

Hleb and Fabs are Arsenal Mark III. They are everything that encapsulates Wenger ball. Ostriches like Ade are a dime a dozen.

  440. Ethan_gooner says:

when wenger says this you know your REALLY IN THE SHIT !

Despite claiming he can compete with United and Chelsea on the field over the next few years, Wenger has privately expressed fears that Arsenal will soon be too far behind the top teams in financial terms.

hey my links didnt appear ..

Arsene Wenger fears his young Arsenal team are in danger of breaking up after it emerged that Emmanuel Adebayor has demanded £80,000 a week to stay at the club

good sell the cunt and fuck off !
you can see his attitude on the pitch , now you see the loyalty off the pitch !
why pay 80 k for MR offside ?
every goal he got this season came from the 6 yard box , either cunt needs glasses
or cant kick straight, if we have to pay that much get a REAL striker !One who has skills !

Th14 is going to west ham as arsene has told TH NO !
all this coming within days of him saying he will stay at barca ..
i think he must of spoken with wenger who told him to TAKE A HIKE !

Arsene Wenger was in meltdown last night after Barcelona entered the race to sign £20m Alexander Hleb.

Inter Milan have already infuriated the Arsenal boss by making the Belarussian a four-year offer worth £16m.

Now Wenger will be fuming after Barca have told the 27-year-old’s advisers they are interested in signing him.

Barca have kept tabs on Hleb all season and are now looking to exploit the possible mass exodus from the Emirates after Mathieu Flamini’s departure for AC Milan on a free contract.

Arsene Wenger fears his young Arsenal team are in danger of breaking up after it emerged that Emmanuel Adebayor has demanded £80,000 a week to stay at the club.

The 24-year-old striker signed a new contract last summer worth a weekly £35,000, but he has told Wenger he wants to be paid in line with the top players in the Barclays Premier League.

i hear DB 10 is retiring soon also :)

thank god for Arsehol dot com

  453. Ethan_gooner says:

Valencia defender Raul Albiol is a target for Arsenal.

The Independent says Arsenal are interested in the 22-year-old Valencia defender, although the Spain international may cost far more than £10m, the amount which has so far been mooted.

  454. Ethan_gooner says:

i think we need to circle like buzzards over valencia !
Rumors are that cesc is unsettled by them leaving ..
we could go from the best midfield team in the world to START FROM SCRATCH !
thats why ade scored so much ..
he will struggle next season without the spice boys ..
Just look at him V’s everton .. Never even looked like scoring ..
and he wants 80 k per week ?

    fuck him

  455. finestcuts says:

No no no Ethan, Fleet street is full of starving freelancers who want a piece of the action, they care not about news but hyperbole and advertising sales.

Newspapers get their stories from Reuters and Associated Free press, the two biggest media moguls, is it a surprise that the top news story is the same in newspapers and on TV channels all over the world?

Not at all, they all feed off the same wires….the news is the news when Reuters says so.
A friend of mine worked for Reuters and I read her code of journalism booklet….there is no such thing as free press or free media, if the editors told the truth they’d be sacked the next day, they’re intellecual prostitues, their job is to keep you un-informed.

  456. Hughsie says:

That’s not a new rumor, thing is, do we want a Defender who’s spent the season seeing goals pinged past him and had the will to live sapped out of him by a self-destructive Valencia squad.

  457. Hughsie says:

I honestly think there is a big room somewhere in fleet street where there is a wall covered in pictures of players and a wall covered in pictures of club crests. A journo walks in there and chucks a dart at each wall, whichever player and club they hit they write a story about.

Sad thing is people make money off writing that crap and theres usually just enough tangible evidence to make it sound believable.

  458. Paulinho says:

    From the Guardian:

Wenger, though, did receive one piece of good news yesterday when it emerged that Nicklas Bendtner had ignored overtures from Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Werder Bremen to declare his continuing faith in Arsenal.

Bayern indicated via an intermediary that they were prepared to pay €10m for the striker and the other two Bundesliga clubs also made their interest known. “I have heard about these offers from Germany but Nicklas will stay at Arsenal,” said Thomas Bendtner, his father. “The only way things could be different was if something unexpected should happen, such as him being moved totally outside of the team, but it’s difficult to see that happening as he is playing right now.”

Bendtner, 20, has made 39 appearances this season, 16 as a starter, and has scored nine goals. “I’ve always said that Arsenal is my club and that’s where I want to play my football,” he said. “When you look at my season and the way it has developed, I see no reason why I should want to change Arsenal with any other club.”

This is like Alfred Hitchcock film The Birds. Fuckers all around us pecking and a pokin’.

  459. Paulinho says:

i trust what Bendtner says alot more than Adebayor for some reason. He may be arrogant but it seems like what you see is what you get with him. No false crap.

  460. DeeOzGooner says:

i rekon hleb shud be offered the big bux and put on the cesc level…understand what your all saying abt him not contributing enuf…but he takes the pressure off cesc and offers a hell of a lot…and like was stated above reads the game superbly. He’s 27 so reaching peak, so does have the ability to go to another level…like ade went from 4 goals to 30…hleb could step up too…

pay him what he wants and let the team move fwd rather than ‘transition’…flam is very replaceable, buta player of hlebs skills and vision are few and far between…

but then it may not jus be a money issue, maybe the fact he gets the shit kicked outa him every week is also a factor…

  461. DeeOzGooner says:

a player that gets man of the match awards consistently is not someone we shud be prepared to let go of…

  464. Ethan_gooner says:

well the way i see it is ade and bands are so close in stature , level of ability etc.
that one must go .. thats why ive always thought get rid of the one whos worth the most $$$ and get villa or th back .. i cant see either of that happening but it should !

  465. finestcuts says:

We’re not letting him go….he thinks he’s already world class instead of staying on at Arsenal and improving the other aspects of his game, he’s the one orchestrating all this nonsense, and some dodgy Italian geezer just has to flash a bit of ice cream at him to get him talking shop out of sight. He doesn’t regularly get MOM awards, he has won a few and he is a useful player, an above average player but he lacks scoring ability and pretty much exclusive relies on link up play to get his credit. A true player is a player in his own right.

Hleb could learn a bit from this:

  466. Ethan_gooner says:

    oppsss bends :)

  467. Ethan_gooner says:

yes finest i agree hleb could score more ..
but he was a main cog in the arsenal creativity squad this season .
they all had a job to do …
he and cesc complement each other quite well ..
    as did flamoney..
im not sure they will be as effective if he left ..
I mean its all an understanding .. and knowing what your left and right sided players are doing .. to start again might see us capsize

Hes going 100% .. too many papers have been pushing the topic
they arent drumming out the same non-sence either ..
he has told the dressing room he’s leaving with flamini
they all took a photo together after the everton game .
(spice boys ) they all hung out together in the stands ..
the biggest give away is arsene is pushing for legal action .. this hasn’t upset the man since cashley left ! he is annoyed ! and outbursts like this only happen when
something is in the wind ..

oh boy the writings on the wall alright .. ive got this feeling in my stomach .
my stomach is seldom wrong :)

  468. Ethan_gooner says:

He has turned down a new 5 year deal finest .. He already turned it down..
he was rumored to say he was disillusioned at the clubs ambitions .
wenger has no choice ,get money for him , or risk him leaving on a free the year after .

  469. Paulinho says:

He would won man of the match against United if we had won. The ratings he got from all the papers and comments in the studio indicated that. Now, that was against the potential european champions.

Also, the report that Barcelona are ready to pay £20 mill might qualify him as a ‘true player in his own right’, whatever that’s supposed to be.

  470. finestcuts says:

Ethan, it’s not a problem, Wenger always has scouts out making sure there is a man to take the position of any big name that leaves…all Arsenal quality players.
Wenger’ll make a big Drama out of it because he is being robbed, there’s no way we’ll get decent money for him, 15-20 is a gross exaggeration considering it would cost less than 5 to buy out his contract + he’ll get a fat signing on fee for saving them money like that, but it will be a big tug of war scenario. The only way Hleb could get away with it is if he pulled a stunt which would gert people calling out for him to leave. The slap on the face was the first clue he didn’t want to play anymore this season, the guy is a stuntman. He actually wants to go, he’s just yanking Wenger’s bollocks at the moment and Wenger does have some say in the issue, it will be extremely tough to battle it out with Wenger this summer, but all Hleb has to do is tell Wenger “I don’t want to play for Arsenal anymore.” and thats it. Wenger has been lied to by Flamini, now Hleb and we’ve got to find a way of getting players to keep their word. What does Flamini’s word mean? Or Hleb’s? Why is it in other walks of life you’re held to your word but not in football. They implicitly stated they wanted to continue playing for Arsenal. There should be something binding to such cheap talk, something that makes the player COMPLETELY UNAVAILABLE in the transfer market if they make a statement like that, a rule which clearly makes it known which players are available and which aren’t. If the player dithers, they should be put on available, once a players heart is no longer with the team they play for, it lowers their performance a tad.

If you want to continue playing for Arsenal, in future make a binding agreement with the club before the start of the transfer window so we know who we need to buy. We’re going to buy for hlebs position anyway, we can’t afford not to hedge, but in future the available and unavailable rule would ensure before the start of transfer season which players we need to buy, and players on unavailable should only be authorised as available by the clubs’ manager.

That would completely solve things, legally binding pledges not some “I want to stay, I like it here” furry, runaway talk.

  471. Ethan_gooner says:

well one things for sure if we get 20 mil for him .. it isnt bad business !
it could be far worse ! again wenger has got back what he paid .. plus more ..
I fully expected him to pay himself out for 4 mil and leave us hung out to dry ..

we could get 2 players for that with wengers eye for a bargain ..
    well lets hope anyhow ..

  472. finestcuts says:

Paulinho, you obviously think Hleb is gravy and everyone has their own interpretations of what a good player is. A true player in his own right is a massive player like Henry, Fabregas, C. Ronaldo, R.Giggs, Cruyff, Van Basten,Kaka, Eusebio, George Best …a true complete player, a real champion,, anything else is a true player wannabe like Adebayor, Hleb….they’ve got the talent but haven’t yet proved their class or potential to ground breaking proportion.
True players can change a game single-handedly.

  473. Ethan_gooner says:

    finest

hleb has arsene by the balls , he can buy out his contract as it is .
and leave us with 4 mil. or he can sell him and make 15-20 like you said ..

either way hleb can buy himself out . fifa article 17 if im not mistaken ..
one thing for sure is , it shows you how loyal he was by asking to sign a contract like that to begin with ..

sorry all signs have him heading for the door … several differing sources
several differing rumors .. arsenes pissed off with inter .. all the sums adds up to one thing . hes going . Arsene would not comment on anything if he could control the situation . he was hoping some public banter might stifle the interest ..
He acted this way when cole was touched up ..
not to mention the same dressing room rumors that involved flamini .. both saying they were leaving ..

all we need is cesc to get rattled and then we only have eboue left :) !!
thank god they havent taken our best player

    ahaha

  474. Ethan_gooner says:

Wenger has been lied to by Flamini, now Hleb and we’ve got to find a way of getting players to keep their word.

Win something .. thats how .. it builds team unity .. bert is loyal freddie was loyal , pires was loyal but wanted 2 years .. PV4 was loyal db10 was loyal , even lauren ..

it was only penny pitching cashely cole who has no loyalty .. plus chevski was winning at the time .. So it only goes to show you win something and you will get club loyalty ..

If wenger keeps running this club like a youth camp , we will see this intake of youth and
the top clubs steal our best players .. but only a few get time on the pitch , in my opinion enough is enough we need experienced players who love arsenal ..

    now

  475. Ethan_gooner says:

pretty hard for hleb to be completely unavailable when wenger allows him to sign buyout clauses into his contracts .. hleb now has wenger by the balls and with icecream-gate and
other rumors it all adds up to the lad departing in my eyes ..

im sure time will tell but i think we will hear definitive proof by money ..

  476. Ethan_gooner says:

    opps … monday.

not money . although thats the reason for leaving :)

  477. Ethan_gooner says:

The best place for rumors are the BBC web page they came up with TH14 officially 1st ,then flamini rumors .. once hleb starts to get rumors on there im sure the writings on the wall ..

Manchester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has held talks with Portuguese club Benfica about returning there for a third spell as coach.

A Benfica statement confirmed talks had taken place, but said: “No details of the contract, namely salaries and timing, have been discussed.”

  480. Geoff says:

Ethan, bang on he’s running the club like a youth club.

Swap Hleb for Goofy, done deal. Stick Ade up himself in the stiffs for a season and put Bendtner up top with whoever is fit.

All these disloyal cunts are Wenger signings, let him sort it out, or ask red nose what he does.

  486. Geoff says:

Ask Pedro, he’ll tell you, he’ll be on soon.

    Ade, here’s what to do.

    1) Let him rot in the reserves

    2) Swap him for Eto’o and Ya Ya

    3) Sell him and buy Benzema

Act now Arsene, learn from your mistakes with people.

I’m off now Evo, I’ll let Pedro know.

  487. Evo in OZ says:

    CHEERS geoff

  488. El Tel says:

This could be a blessing in disguise, Hleb, Ade, Flamster are very good players but we do have ready replacements at the club. Hleb/Diaby. Ade/Bendtner Flamster/Dennilson.

There will be guys saying this is bollocks but the players leaving have taken as much stick form the fans as they have had support.

We also have Theo who should be up the middle next season, RVP and Sicky along with Bert if he stays.

The replacements will give more as they won’t get frustrated being in and out of the side all the time.

We also have to sign a couple of very good players and this might make AW think about a superstar to stop the club from being branded a feeder club.

I know Aw wants us to be like Ajax but the 70s version would be better than the feeder club they are today.

  489. El Tel says:

Spot on Geoff get tough with the wasters. Let them fuck off if they want to go. Pedro the little boxes are neat, what chance a 30′s style AFC crest for me?

    Cheers mate

  491. Evo in OZ says:

Ethan – u been watching the IPL cricket?

  492. GMR says:

Wenger needs to start signing players around the ages of 26-27. Those players will mostly see out their contracts as they’ll be seeing Arsenal as the last move of their career. Hleb although 27 now was only 24 when we signed him & after making his name he sees an escape route to a supposedly bigger club.

I cannot believe Wenger hasn’t realised that young players join us for 2 reasons. Firstly because we pay them more than any other club would at that stage of their careers & secondly because Arsenal are still a big enough club for them to make their names & they know the scouts from the big european teams will be watching them.

Vela has already said he only wanted to play in spain, yet Arsenal offered him much larger wages than any spanish team were prepared to pay & so he joined us. Admittedly since then he has said he’s excited about joining up with Arsenal but once he makes his name how long will it be before he wants to join Madrid or Barca??

  493. DennisDaMenace says:

This is in danger of spiralling outta control, we get the youngsters and/or relative unknowns into the first team. Train them, raise their profiles and once they get to a good level lose them to another club purely based on the fact that we are running an out of date approach to wages and contracts……alright maybe not in the case of Hleb, but if he can get double what we’re paying him elsewhere, why not move……..it’s about time AW and AFC woke up and smelt the coffee, if they wanna compete they gotta invest in the playing staff, and that means competing in wages as well as competing for signatures of established players. They can spout on all day and all night about wage structues and paying a fair price etc etc, fine then they can forget about competing to win anything because the ball-game has changed and you either go with it or accept mediocrity.

My gut feeling is that the tossers who are running the club are happy for Wenger’s conveyor belt to continue to produce cheap players that get us into the CL on the cheap. And, if we win anything it’s purely a bonus. But, if we lose one or two players every year to a “richer” club, so be it. I truly don’t believe that any ambitious club can be happy to have this policy, and with comments like “Arsene’s under no pressure to deliver trophies” coming from Hill-Wood is a fucking disgrace. What message does that send out to the players….”don’t worry chaps, if we don’t win anything it doesn’t matter, we play pretty football”………..However, it’s an understandable statement if the board are purely interested in being in it purely for profits………..these mugs need to be reminded of why we’re all here…………….for great glory of Arsenal Football Club.

    Cor Blimey That’s Better.

  498. GMR says:

Did anyone else hear Wenger answering the question about the academy & lack of players from it. He even says that the next batch should produce 2 players good enough to play for Arsenal.

Is he taking the p***. All that money invested into the academy each year & we are producing nothing & its not just local kids either but foreigners that we are paying big money for.

If his answer was an honest one then Arsenal should scrap the academy that Wenger says is costing them over 5 million a season. You could buy a player each season with that sort of money rather than spending 12 years to develop 2 who may be good enough.

  499. Evo in OZ says:

wouldnt that drive young kids away to play rugby, cricket or tennis instead?

507 posts before end of play? Feck me its all going off. Dont have time to read all but the news is that Ade dismisses all that has been said in his name and he is staying. Cesc is staying.

Wenger doesnt acknowledge the Hleb rumours ” i didn’t see, it coming” is not an actual quote, but it could be.

Can someone tell me why our board thinks that they can keep in-demand world class footballers who aren’t winning trophies and are being paid less than their peers?

  504. Scully says:

Ade has come out and rubbished the stories regarding his wage demands yet you guy’s are referring to the man as a c**t. Clearly some of us are bitter and very twisted, what a shame.

  505. Simon says:

I´d like to see Zapata, Richards, Robinho or Ben Arfa, both if we lose Hleb. But Richards to take Flamini´s place.

  506. Minty says:

  507. [...] Ben Arfa, Kompany, Buffon, Ya Ya and Villa are all on the list … [...]
